OVERVIEW

History of Sleep Number

Sleep Number Corporation, formerly known as Select Comfort Corporation, is an American company that manufactures and sells adjustable air mattresses, bedding, and other sleep-related products. The company is best known for its Sleep Number beds, which allow users to customize the firmness of their mattresses.

The history of Sleep Number can be traced back to 1987, when it was founded by Robert Walker and JoAnn Walker in Plymouth, Minnesota. The Walkers were inspired to create a mattress that could be adjusted to individual preferences, resulting in the invention of the Sleep Number bed. Their innovative design used air-chamber technology to allow users to adjust the firmness of the mattress according to their preferred sleep number, ranging from 0 to 100.

In 1991, the company began to expand its retail presence by opening its first store. Throughout the 1990s, Sleep Number experienced rapid growth, thanks to the popularity of its unique mattresses and an emphasis on customer satisfaction. The company went public in 1998, listing on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol SCSS.

In the 2000s, Sleep Number continued to innovate and expand its product lineup. The company introduced the first wireless remote control for its beds in 2004, and in 2007, it launched the Sleep Number 360 smart bed, which incorporated sensors to monitor sleep quality and make automatic adjustments to the mattress firmness and position.

In 2012, Sleep Number acquired Comfortaire Corporation, another adjustable air mattress manufacturer. This acquisition allowed the company to expand its product portfolio and further solidify its position in the adjustable mattress market.

In 2017, Select Comfort Corporation officially rebranded as Sleep Number Corporation to align the company’s name with its flagship product. Today, Sleep Number operates hundreds of stores across the United States and sells its products online and through various retail partners. The company remains committed to improving sleep quality and comfort through ongoing innovation and personalized sleep solutions.

Overall, while I cannot comment on the specific motion transfer capabilities of this mattress, Sleep Number is a well-regarded brand and has developed a reputation for producing high-quality sleep products that prioritize comfort and support.

Temperature Regulation

Rated 4.7 out of 5

Temperature regulation is important for sleep because it can significantly impact the quality of our sleep. Our body temperature naturally fluctuates throughout the day and night, with the lowest body temperature occurring during the early morning hours. When we sleep, our bodies go through different stages of sleep, each with its own temperature regulation needs.

If our sleeping environment is too warm or too cold, it can interfere with our body’s natural temperature regulation and disrupt our sleep. If the bedroom is too warm, it can lead to sweating and discomfort, which can cause restlessness and waking up during the night. On the other hand, if the bedroom is too cold, it can cause shivering and discomfort, which can also disturb our sleep.

Temperature regulation is especially important for achieving restorative sleep. During the deepest stages of sleep, our body temperature drops to its lowest point, which can help our body repair and rejuvenate itself. If the bedroom is too warm, it can interfere with this natural process and reduce the amount of deep sleep we get, leading to feeling groggy and unrefreshed in the morning.

By regulating the temperature of our sleeping environment, we can create a comfortable and supportive space for restful sleep. This can help us fall asleep more quickly, stay asleep for longer periods of time, and wake up feeling more refreshed and energized in the morning.

The Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed with advanced temperature control technology that can help you stay comfortable throughout the night, regardless of the season or your personal preferences. Here’s how the temperature control system works:

  1. Active Temperature Balancing: The bed’s Active Temperature Balancing system uses a combination of air flow and thermal sensors to detect changes in temperature and humidity throughout the night. This system can adjust the temperature of the bed in real-time, responding to your body’s needs and ensuring that you remain comfortable throughout the night.

  2. Personalized Temperature Settings: The bed allows you to set your preferred temperature range for both the surface of the bed and the air that surrounds you. You can choose to warm up or cool down the bed, depending on your personal preferences, and adjust the temperature as needed throughout the night.

  3. Dual Climate Zones: The bed offers dual climate zones, so you and your partner can each set your own temperature preferences. This can help you both stay comfortable throughout the night, even if you have different temperature needs.

  4. SleepIQ Technology: The bed’s SleepIQ technology can monitor your temperature preferences and track how your body responds to different temperature settings. This can help you identify your ideal temperature range and adjust your settings over time to maximize your comfort.

  5. App and remote control: Supported firmness and temperature settings are operated through the Sleep Number app or a compatible Sleep Number remote. Sleep Number does not support Amazon Alexa or Google Home control.

Overall, the Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed offers a range of features designed to provide personalized temperature control and help you stay comfortable throughout the night. Whether you prefer a warm or cool sleeping environment, the bed’s advanced technology can help you achieve your ideal temperature range and improve your overall sleep quality.

Edge Support

Rated 4.4 out of 5

The bed is designed with responsive air technology and foam comfort layers that can provide support across the entire sleep surface, including the edges. Additionally, the bed allows for individualized firmness adjustments on each side, which can further help to minimize the risk of sagging or uneven support.

It’s worth noting that edge support can be an important consideration when choosing a mattress, especially for those who share a bed or use the edge of the bed for sitting or getting in and out of bed. If you have specific concerns about edge support or sagging, it’s a good idea to consult with the manufacturer or read reviews from other customers who have used the mattress to get a better sense of how it performs in this regard.

How Easy is it to Change Positions?

Rated 4.4 out of 5

The Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed to allow you to change positions easily throughout the night. The bed features responsive air technology and foam comfort layers that can contour to your body’s shape, providing targeted support for your spine and joints. This can help you maintain proper alignment and reduce pressure points, making it easier to shift positions and find a comfortable sleep position.

Additionally, the bed allows you to adjust the firmness or softness of your side of the bed independently from your partner’s side. This means you can customize the level of support you receive and adjust it as needed to find the most comfortable sleep position for your body.

Overall, the Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed to provide personalized comfort and support that can help you change positions easily throughout the night and wake up feeling more rested and refreshed.

Sex

Rated 4.4 out of 5

They may not be the most ideal choice compared to other types of mattresses. Here are a few things to consider if you’re planning to have sex on an air mattress:

  1. Firmness: Air mattresses can be adjusted to different levels of firmness, which can be helpful for finding the right level of support and comfort during sex. However, some air mattresses may not offer the same level of stability or responsiveness as other types of mattresses, which can make it more difficult to move around and find a comfortable position.

  2. Noise: Depending on the air pump and material of the air mattress, they may produce noise during sex, which can be distracting or uncomfortable.

  3. Durability: Air mattresses may not be as durable as other types of mattresses, particularly if they are used frequently for sex. They can be punctured or damaged more easily than traditional mattresses, which can be a hassle to repair or replace.

Off-Gassing

Rated 4.4 out of 5

Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from certain materials or products, including mattresses. VOCs are chemicals that can be emitted as gases from products or materials, which can potentially cause negative health effects if they are inhaled in high concentrations over time.

Many mattresses, including some air mattresses, are made with foam materials, which can sometimes emit a slight odor or VOCs when they are first unpacked. This is typically referred to as off-gassing. Off-gassing can occur with any type of foam, including memory foam, polyurethane foam, or latex foam.

To minimize the potential effects of off-gassing, it is recommended to allow the mattress to air out for a few days before using it. This can help to dissipate any odor or VOCs that may have built up during shipping or storage. Additionally, it is a good idea to choose a mattress that has been certified by independent organizations, such as CertiPUR-US or GreenGuard, which test for VOC emissions and other potential health hazards.

Overall, while some air mattresses may off-gas initially, this is typically a minor issue that can be mitigated by airing out the mattress before use. If you have specific concerns about off-gassing or are sensitive to VOCs, it may be helpful to choose a mattress that is certified by independent organizations or to consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.

  4. Reputation: Sleep Number is a well-established company with a reputation for quality products and customer service, which may instill confidence in their warranty.

Cons:

  3. Shipping and transportation costs: Customers may be responsible for shipping and transportation costs associated with warranty claims. These costs can be expensive, particularly if the mattress needs to be shipped long distances.

  4. Non-transferable: The warranty is typically non-transferable, meaning that it is only valid for the original purchaser and cannot be extended to subsequent owners if the mattress is sold or given away.

Sleep Number beds have been plagued by mold issues since the late 1990s. The first known mold complaint was in 1996, and since then, there have been numerous reports of mold growth in Sleep Number beds, both in the air chambers and in the foam layers.

In 2003, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Sleep Number alleging that the company’s beds were defective and prone to mold growth. The lawsuit alleged that Sleep Number knew about the mold problem but failed to warn consumers or take steps to fix it. The lawsuit was settled in 2005, with Sleep Number agreeing to pay $10 million to affected consumers.

In 2005, Sleep Number introduced a new antimicrobial treatment for its beds, which the company claimed would prevent mold growth. However, consumers continued to report mold problems even after the new treatment was introduced.

In 2013, another class-action lawsuit was filed against Sleep Number alleging that the company’s beds were still defective and prone to mold growth. The lawsuit is still ongoing.

Sleep Number has denied that its beds are defective and has maintained that the mold problem is caused by factors outside of the company’s control, such as high humidity levels and poor ventilation. However, many consumers believe that the company has not done enough to address the mold problem.

In recent years, there have been fewer reports of mold growth in Sleep Number beds. However, some consumers continue to experience this problem. If you have a Sleep Number bed and you are concerned about mold growth, there are a few things you can do to reduce the risk:

  • Keep your bedroom well-ventilated.
  • Avoid using humidifiers in your bedroom.
  • Regularly inspect your bed for signs of mold growth.
  • Clean your bed regularly with a mild soap and water solution.
  • If you do find mold growth in your bed, contact Sleep Number immediately.

If you are considering buying a Sleep Number bed, it is important to be aware of the potential for mold growth. You should also be aware of the company’s return policy in case you do experience mold problems.

Silk Symphony Mattress Review: Two-Sided Firmness Testing Restored

The Silk Symphony page had lost the original two-sided testing, bowling-ball comparisons, construction photos, motion observations and heat test.

Two-sided design

The reviewed Silk Symphony used a plush side and a noticeably firmer reverse side. That was not a cosmetic difference: the comfort layers and quilting changed how deeply the sleeper sank into the mattress.

Our 14-pound bowling ball sank substantially farther on the soft side than on the firm side, making the firmness difference easy to see rather than relying on labels alone.

Inside the mattress

Yawnder unzipped the cover and photographed the foam stack. The soft side used more cushioning above the support core, while the reverse side kept the sleeper much closer to the firmer base.

Cooling and motion

Motion transfer was low because of the all-foam construction. In our heat-dissipation test, the mattress performed reasonably well for an all-foam bed of its era.

Moona Cooling Pillow Pad Review

Moona Pillow Review
Looking for a comparable pillow on Amazon? Compare cooling pillow pads on Amazon. These are similar options, not necessarily the exact product reviewed; availability varies.

The Moona is a pad that you can place on or inside your pillowcase or use even without a pillow to keep your head cool. It works by channeling cool water through small tubes. This is a great solution for people that tend to sleep hot but do not want to commit to a higher-cost device like a Chilipad or Eight Sleep Pod. This device is also smaller and can fit on your nightstand. At $399 it is something to consider for people constantly flipping their pillows to keep cool.

Overview of the Moona Pillow

Here’s a video overview of the Moona Pillow and my thoughts on it after sleeping on it for a few nights.

Ordering Your Moona

You can order the Moona directly from their website. Mine arrived at my doorstep in a little over a week.

moona box

The packaging is clean and well designed. They even include a bag to store the pad when not in use.

opened moona box

This is everything that came in the box and setting it up is very easy. You just plug it in and attach the cables to the back of the Moona unit. Then fill it with distilled water.

moona contents

To fill the Moona you just unscrew the cap and add water with the included funnel. Just make sure it’s distilled water. This will prevent any minerals from building up.

How Much Does the Moona Cost?

The Moona currently retails for $399. This includes the device itself and of course the app is free. It also comes with a 30-night trial and 1-year warranty.

My Moona Pillow Findings

I was initially afraid that the Moona would feel like sleeping on a cold plastic bag. Because it has water running through it, the membrane needs to be waterproof. To address this problem, they added small foam cubes to the vinyl pad so that you get some decent cushioning and airflow. On top of that is another thinner pad with a jersey knit cover. Despite this, I still preferred to put it underneath my pillowcase.

inside the moona

Here you can see where the tubes go into the pad

moona tubes

The Moona is designed to fit a standard pillow but it will work on a king-size pillow too, it just won’t cover the entire pillow. Here you can see it on my king-size pillow for reference.

moona on king size pillow

My first night on the pillow took some adjustment. At first, I didn’t notice any effect but then I realized I set the app to turn on at 11pm and I went to bed at 10 pm. Once I adjusted the time, it kicked in, and started to feel the water start to cool the pad. The recommended fall asleep temp is 76 degrees as seen below with the temperature gradually rising to naturally wake you up in the morning at the time you choose.

recommended temp

I initially thought this was too warm of a temp so I dropped it down to 70 but soon realized 76 is plenty and later that night I woke up and found it to be too cold and had to increase it close to 80. So just keep in mind it will take a few nights to find the ideal sleeping temperature but once you do, it works seamlessly and in the morning the app will ask how you slept so you can keep track of your progress.

I like how simple this is to use. If you find yourself too warm or cold during the night, there are buttons on the top of the unit to increase or decrease the temp which is easier than accessing the app at night with a bright screen to wake you up.

moona buttons

My Moona Recommendation

At $399 the Moona is a considerable investment but certainly much less expensive than the full mattress alternatives like Chilipad or Eight Sleep. It also works on your head which the others cannot do so if you do use an Eight Sleep or Chilipad and like the benefits, this would be a good addition. If you already like your mattress and sleeping hot is an issue, I would recommend starting with the Moona. It made a noticeable difference in how I slept and is the only solution I currently know of that can keep your head cool all night long.

The Moona Pillow is best for individuals who experience heat issues at night but are otherwise happy with their current mattress. It provides a unique, localized cooling effect for the head, making it ideal for those who frequently flip their pillow looking for a cool spot.

How does the Moona Pillow compare to full mattress cooling systems like the Chilipad or Eight Sleep Pod?

The Moona Pillow is a more budget-friendly alternative to full mattress cooling systems like the Chilipad or Eight Sleep Pod, retailing at $399. Unlike these larger systems that cool the entire bed, the Moona specifically targets head cooling, offering a distinct benefit for those who just need to cool their pillow area.

What are the potential downsides of the Moona Cooling Pillow Pad?

One potential downside is the initial calibration of the desired temperature, which may take a few nights to perfect. Also, while it fits standard pillows, it won't cover an entire king-sized pillow, which could be a consideration for some users.

Is the Moona Cooling Pillow Pad comfortable to sleep on?

Yes, the Moona Cooling Pillow Pad is designed for comfort, featuring small foam cubes within the vinyl pad to provide cushioning and airflow. Our hands-on testing suggests that while some prefer it under a pillowcase for a softer feel, it does not feel like sleeping directly on a cold plastic sheet.

Where can I try the Moona Pillow in person before buying?

It comes with a 30-night trial period, allowing you ample time to test its cooling benefits from the comfort of your home.

Want to test this in person? Visit our Encinitas showroom or call 858-232-5760.

Serta Arctic Mattress Review: Archived Cooling Hybrid Detail Restored

The Serta Arctic is now a legacy model, but the old page contained a much fuller explanation of its cooling-focused construction and hybrid behavior.

Cooling-focused design

The Arctic line paired cooling cover materials and memory foam with a supportive spring system. The cooling package—not a radically different support system—was the main reason it existed within Serta’s lineup.

Hybrid support

Individually wrapped coils supplied bounce and support while reducing motion transmission compared with traditional connected springs.

Pressure relief

Memory foam above the coil unit provided contouring and pressure relief, giving the mattress a more cushioned feel than a traditional innerspring.

Motion behavior

The backup contained contradictory legacy scores, so those ratings are not being restored. The useful physical takeaway is that pocketed coils plus foam generally damped partner movement while retaining more response than an all-foam bed.

Archived status

Because the Arctic has been replaced by newer Serta cooling products, this page now serves as a construction/history reference rather than a current recommendation.

Why We Yawn (2026): Truth Behind a Common Behavior

daniel lincoln IE2Z11zKsso unsplash scaled

All You Wanted to Know about Yawning

Where did the word Yawn come from?

The word “yawn” comes from the Old English word “gionian,” which meant “to open the mouth wide, gape.” This word is related to the Old Norse word “gina,” which also meant “to yawn.” The word “yawn” has been used in English since at least the 14th century to describe the act of opening one’s mouth wide when tired or bored. Over time, the word has also been used to describe similar actions in animals, such as when a lion yawns before roaring. Today, the word “yawn” is widely used in English to refer to the act of opening one’s mouth wide and inhaling deeply, often as a sign of tiredness or boredom.

What is Yawning?

Yawning is a natural and common phenomenon that occurs in humans and many other animals. When we yawn, we involuntarily open our mouth wide, inhale deeply, and exhale audibly. The exact function of yawning is not fully understood, but there are several theories about why we yawn.

One theory is that yawning helps to regulate the temperature of the brain. When we inhale deeply during a yawn, cool air enters our nasal passages and then travels to the brain, which helps to cool down the brain. This may explain why we tend to yawn more frequently when we’re tired or sleepy, as our brain temperature tends to increase in those states.

Another theory is that yawning is a way to increase oxygen intake and promote alertness. When we yawn, we take in a large amount of air, which increases our oxygen levels and can help to increase our level of alertness.

Yawning is also known to be contagious. When we see someone else yawn, we often feel the urge to yawn as well. This is known as contagious yawning, and it is thought to be related to empathy and social bonding. Contagious yawning has been observed in many different animal species, including primates, dogs, and even birds.

Overall, yawning is a complex phenomenon that likely has multiple functions and is influenced by various physiological and psychological factors. While much research has been conducted on yawning, there is still much to learn about this mysterious behavior.

Who Yawns?

Yawning is observed in many animal species, not just humans. Some animals that are known to yawn include:

  1. Primates – chimpanzees, baboons, and gorillas have been observed yawning
  2. Dogs – it is common for dogs to yawn, especially when they are tired or stressed
  3. Cats – cats also yawn, although not as frequently as dogs
  4. Birds – some birds, such as parrots, have been observed yawning
  5. Reptiles – some reptiles, such as snakes, have been observed yawning
  6. Fish – some fish, such as goldfish, have been observed yawning

It’s worth noting that the exact function of yawning in different animal species may differ, and more research is needed to fully understand the role of yawning in different animals.

Can You Make People Yawn?

if you’re looking to make someone yawn, you might try yawning in front of them, or showing them a video of someone else yawning. It’s worth noting that not everyone is susceptible to contagious yawning, and factors like age, empathy, and social connection may influence whether someone is more or less likely to yawn in response to seeing someone else yawn.

Do Women Yawn More than Men?

There is no clear consensus on whether women yawn more than men or vice versa. Some studies have found that women may yawn slightly more often than men, while others have found no significant difference between the sexes. It is worth noting, however, that there are many factors that can influence yawning, including age, activity level, time of day, and other individual differences, so it is difficult to make generalizations about yawning based solely on gender. Overall, yawning is a complex behavior that is not fully understood, and there is still much research to be done to fully understand its causes and functions.

Who Has the Loudest Yawn?

It’s difficult to determine which animal has the loudest yawn as there are many factors that can affect the loudness of a yawn, such as the size and shape of the animal’s respiratory system, the strength of the muscles used to yawn, and the distance between the animal and the person or equipment measuring the sound.

However, some animals, such as lions and tigers, are known for their powerful roars, which may be accompanied by a yawn-like opening of the mouth. These big cats have a powerful respiratory system and strong muscles that allow them to produce loud vocalizations. So, it’s possible that their yawns may also be relatively loud compared to other animals.

Why do we yawn when we are bored?

Yawning has been linked to a variety of physiological and psychological factors, and one of the theories about why we yawn when we’re bored is related to our level of arousal and attention. When we’re bored, our level of arousal and attention tends to decrease, which can lead to a decrease in our heart rate, breathing rate, and body temperature. Yawning may help to counteract these effects by increasing our heart rate, breathing rate, and oxygen levels, which can help to boost our level of alertness and arousal.

Famous Yawns in Film

Yawning is a natural behavior that people do every day, and it’s not uncommon for movies to feature characters yawning. Here are a few famous yawns in movies:

  1. The Godfather (1972) – In the opening scene of this iconic movie, the character of Bonasera yawns during his conversation with Vito Corleone.

  2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) – In one scene, Red (played by Morgan Freeman) yawns during a group therapy session at the prison.

  3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) – In a scene where the hobbits are preparing to leave the Shire, Frodo (played by Elijah Wood) lets out a big yawn as he stretches.

  4. Forrest Gump (1994) – In one scene, Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks) yawns during a conversation with Lt. Dan (played by Gary Sinise).

  5. The Matrix (1999) – In a scene where Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) meets Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne), Neo yawns as he tries to stay awake during Morpheus’ explanation of the Matrix.

These are just a few examples, but there are countless other movies where characters yawn throughout the film.

The Most Recognized Yawn in the World?

There is one particular yawn that has gained some notoriety in popular culture, and that is the “lion yawn” – a deep, wide-open mouthed yawn often seen in lions and other big cats. This yawn is often accompanied by a roar, and has been featured in numerous documentaries and nature programs, as well as in artwork and popular culture. The lion yawn has become something of a symbol of strength and power, and is often associated with the majestic and awe-inspiring qualities of big cats.

The MGM lion, not a cat, is a well-known symbol that appears at the beginning of many movies produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) studios. The lion yawns during the logo sequence, which has become an iconic moment in movie history. While there have been several lions used as the MGM mascot over the years, the most famous is likely the one that appeared in the logo from 1957 to 1960 – a lion named “Telly” who was known for his distinctive roar and majestic appearance. Telly’s yawn in the MGM logo has become a well-known and beloved movie moment, and has been parodied and referenced in various films and TV shows over the years.

Why Do Dogs Yawn?

There are several reasons why dogs yawn, and it’s not always as simple as us being tired or bored! Here are some of the most common explanations:

Physiological reasons:

  • Alertness: Similar to humans, dogs sometimes yawn when transitioning from one state to another, like waking up or becoming more alert. This could be a way to increase oxygen intake and cool down the brain.
  • Boredom: If your dog seems uninterested in their surroundings or doesn’t have much stimulation, yawning could be a sign of boredom.

Emotional and social reasons:

  • Stress: This is a big one! Dogs often yawn when feeling anxious, nervous, or uncomfortable. For example, they might yawn during a vet visit, when meeting a new dog, or during a loud argument. It’s a way to self-soothe and de-escalate the situation.
  • Empathy: Believe it or not, dogs might be picking up on your emotions! Studies have shown that dogs can “catch” yawns from their owners, just like humans. This suggests they might have some level of empathy and understand your emotional state.
  • Calming signal: Similar to other calming signals like licking their lips or looking away, yawning can be a way for dogs to communicate they feel unsure or want to avoid conflict.

Understanding the context is key:

To truly understand why your dog is yawning, pay attention to the situation and their overall body language. Is their tail wagging or tucked? Are their ears perked up or flat? Are they making eye contact or looking away? By considering these factors, you can better decipher the meaning behind their yawns.

There’s a good chance your dog will yawn if you yawn, but it’s not guaranteed. Here’s what we know about contagious yawning in dogs:

Evidence suggests:

  • Dogs can catch yawns from their owners and other familiar humans. Studies have shown this “contagious yawning” phenomenon occurs more frequently than chance.
  • Dogs are more likely to yawn after seeing their owners yawn than strangers, suggesting an emotional connection plays a role.
  • The yawn contagion strength might be linked to the dog-human bond, with stronger bonds leading to more frequent yawning responses.

However, it’s not always a given:

  • Not all dogs are equally susceptible to contagious yawning. Individual differences in personality, age, and even breed might influence their response.
  • The context matters. If your dog is stressed, distracted, or engaged in another activity, they might not pay attention to your yawn or have the mental capacity to “catch” it.
  • Yawning in dogs can have other explanations besides empathy. Boredom, tiredness, or physiological needs can also trigger yawns.

So, will your dog yawn if you yawn? It depends! Observing their overall behavior and the situation can give you clues. A yawn after you yawn, especially if directed at you, might indicate empathy and a strong bond. But remember, other factors could be at play too.

Psychopaths and Yawning

Research suggests that individuals with high levels of psychopathic traits are less likely to yawn contagiously compared to individuals with lower levels of these traits. Here’s what we know:

Studies have shown:

  • A negative correlation between scores on psychopathy measures and susceptibility to contagious yawning.
  • This means the higher someone scores on a psychopathy scale, the less likely they are to yawn in response to seeing someone else yawn.
  • This effect appears to be unrelated to factors like direct eye contact but may be linked to lower levels of empathy.

However, it’s important to remember:

  • These studies suggest a correlation, not causation. Just because someone scores high on a psychopathy scale, it doesn’t definitively mean they won’t yawn contagiously.
  • Psychopathy is a complex spectrum, and individuals with these traits can vary greatly in their expression. Yawning behavior may just be one piece of the puzzle.
  • More research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind the link between psychopathy and contagious yawning.

Yawning and Empathy

The link between yawning and empathy is a fascinating but complex topic with research suggesting there might be a connection, but not definitively proving it. Here’s what we know:

Evidence Suggesting a Link:

  • Contagious yawning: People often yawn after seeing others yawn, especially those they are close to or empathize with. This suggests a possible link between understanding another’s state and mimicking their behavior.
  • Empathy levels and contagious yawning: Some studies have found a correlation between higher levels of empathy and increased susceptibility to contagious yawning.
  • Brain regions involved: Both yawning and empathy involve similar brain regions, suggesting a potential shared neural basis.

Challenges and Counter-Evidence:

  • Alternative explanations: Yawning can serve other functions like increasing alertness or regulating brain temperature, which could explain contagious yawning without involving empathy.
  • Inconsistent findings: Not all studies have found a clear link between empathy and contagious yawning. Some populations with lower empathy, like individuals with autism spectrum disorder, still show contagious yawning.
  • Individual differences: People vary in their susceptibility to contagious yawning, possibly due to factors like personality, attention, and social context.

Current Understanding:

The research suggests a possible link between yawning and empathy, but it’s not conclusive. Contagious yawning may involve more than just empathy, and individual differences play a significant role. Further research is needed to fully understand the complex relationship between these two phenomena.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • While some studies show a link between empathy and contagious yawning, this doesn’t necessarily mean someone who yawns contagiously is high in empathy, or vice versa.
  • Contagious yawning might be more about understanding another’s state in general, not necessarily feeling their emotions.
  • The link between yawning and empathy could be influenced by social factors like familiarity and bonding.

Autism and Yawning

Both autism and schizophrenia seem to affect yawning in different ways, though the research is still ongoing and evolving. Here’s what we know:

Autism:

  • Reduced susceptibility to contagious yawning: Studies suggest individuals with autism are less likely to yawn when they see others yawn compared to neurotypical individuals. This might be related to differences in empathy, attention, or social processing.
  • Normal spontaneous yawning: However, people with autism still yawn on their own, indicating yawning serves other functions beyond empathy.
  • Individual differences: The degree of reduced susceptibility varies across the autism spectrum, with some individuals exhibiting contagious yawning similar to neurotypical people.

Schizophrenia:

  • Mixed findings: Some studies suggest individuals with schizophrenia show reduced contagious yawning, while others haven’t found significant differences. The reasons for these inconsistencies are unclear and require further investigation.
  • Possible explanations: Reduced susceptibility could be linked to altered social cognition, attention issues, or specific symptoms like blunted affect.
  • Need for more research: More studies are needed to understand the link between schizophrenia and yawning definitively.

Important Notes:

  • Yawning is complex and influenced by various factors beyond empathy.
  • These findings on autism and schizophrenia represent average group trends and do not apply to every individual within these spectrum disorders.
  • It’s crucial to avoid generalizations and stereotypes based on yawning behavior alone.

Here are some additional resources:

When to See a Doctor About Yawning

Yawning itself is a normal reflex and not necessarily a cause for concern. However, there are some situations where excessive yawning might warrant a conversation with your doctor. Here’s a breakdown:

When Yawning Might Be Normal:

  • Occasional Yawning: Yawning a few times throughout the day due to fatigue, boredom, or even lightheadedness is usually nothing to worry about.
  • Sudden Yawning: If you experience a sudden urge to yawn after seeing or hearing someone else yawn, this is likely contagious yawning, a normal social response.
  • Stress Yawning: Yawning can also be a way to manage stress or anxiety. If it happens occasionally and resolves when the stress passes, it’s not a major concern.

When to Talk to Your Doctor:

  • Excessive Yawning: If you’re yawning frequently and excessively, especially with no clear explanation, it could be a sign of an underlying medical condition.
  • Sudden Increase in Yawning: If you notice a sudden and dramatic increase in your yawning, especially if it’s accompanied by other symptoms like fatigue, daytime sleepiness, or difficulty concentrating, consult your doctor.
  • Yawning Along with Other Symptoms: If your yawning is accompanied by other concerning symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or numbness, seek immediate medical attention. These could be signs of a serious condition.
  • Persistent Yawning After Addressing Common Causes: If you’ve addressed common causes like sleep deprivation, medication side effects, or stress but still experience excessive yawning, it’s best to talk to your doctor.

It’s important to remember:

  • This information is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If you’re concerned about your yawning, schedule an appointment with your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • They can help determine the cause of your excessive yawning and recommend appropriate interventions, whether it’s addressing sleep issues, adjusting medications, or investigating potential underlying health conditions.

Potential Causes of Excessive Yawning

here is a table of potential causes of excessive yawning:

CategoryCauses
Sleep disordersSleep apnea, Insomnia, Restless legs syndrome, Narcolepsy
Medical conditionsAnemia, Thyroid problems, Heart failure, Liver disease, Lung disease, Brain tumors
MedicationsAntidepressants, Antihistamines, Muscle relaxants, Sedatives, Blood pressure medications
Lifestyle factorsStress, Boredom, Lack of exercise, Dehydration, Caffeine intake, Alcohol consumption
OtherPregnancy, Vitamin deficiencies, Head injury

Yawning and Temperature

While the relationship between yawning and temperature is interesting, it’s not as straightforward as a clear-cut correlation. Here’s what we know:

Evidence for a link:

  • Studies on animals: Several studies suggest that some animals, like rats and parakeets, yawned more frequently at higher ambient temperatures.
  • Brain cooling theory: One theory proposes that yawning functions to increase blood flow to the head, potentially helping to cool down the brain, which might explain increased yawning in warmer environments.
  • Anecdotal observations: Many people report yawning more often when feeling hot or stuffy.

Challenges and counter-evidence:

  • Limited human studies: Studies on humans haven’t shown a consistent or strong correlation between temperature and yawning frequency.
  • Other factors influence yawning: Fatigue, boredom, and social cues can also trigger yawns, making it difficult to isolate the effect of temperature alone.
  • Yawning at high temperatures: Some studies suggest yawning actually decreases at extremely high temperatures, possibly due to competing physiological priorities.

Current understanding:

The link between yawning and temperature remains unclear and complex. While some evidence suggests a connection, particularly in animals and specific temperature ranges, it’s likely not the only factor influencing yawning behavior. More research is needed to fully understand this potential connection in humans.

Other Theories About Why We Yawn

Beyond the most frequently discussed theories like drowsiness, alertness, and empathy, several other interesting ideas try to explain why we yawn. Here’s a glimpse into some less mainstream theories:

1. Cooling the Brain: This theory suggests yawning increases blood flow to the head, bringing cooler blood from the body and flushing away metabolic heat buildup in the brain. This could explain yawning’s occurrence during mental exertion or boredom, where brain activity might increase heat production.

2. Ear Pressure Regulation: Studies show yawning can affect the middle ear, equalizing pressure and potentially relieving discomfort during rapid altitude changes or ear infections. While the exact mechanism is unclear, it suggests a possible “yawning for ear health” function.

3. Non-Verbal Communication: Some researchers propose yawning plays a role in social communication. It could signal tiredness, boredom, or a desire for group synchronization. Yawning contagiously might promote cohesion and empathy within a group.

4. Stretch and Stretch Reflex: Yawning involves stretching facial and jaw muscles, similar to other stretching behaviors. This could enhance alertness and muscle readiness, especially after periods of inactivity. The yawn itself might be a stretch reflex triggered by internal cues.

5. Attention and Information Processing: Some studies suggest yawning is linked to cognitive processes like filtering out irrelevant information and focusing on essential stimuli. It could be a way to clear the mind and prepare for renewed attention, explaining yawning during lectures or tedious tasks.

6. Evolutionary Advantage: Some theories propose yawning served an evolutionary purpose, like warning others of danger or signaling group cohesion. While the specific function remains debatable, this perspective suggests yawning might have deeper roots in our social and survival instincts.

It’s important to remember:

  • These theories are still under investigation, and none definitively explain why we yawn.
  • Each theory might contribute a piece to the puzzle, and multiple factors likely combine to trigger yawns in different situations.
  • Further research is needed to fully understand the complex function and evolution of yawning.

Frequently Asked Questions About Why We Yawn (2026): Truth Behind a Common Behavior

Why do humans yawn?

Humans yawn for several reasons, including regulating brain temperature, increasing oxygen intake, and as a form of social bonding. Yawning helps cool the brain by inhaling cold air and can also boost oxygen levels, enhancing alertness. Contagious yawning is thought to be an empathy-driven social response observed across many species.

Is yawning contagious, and if so, why?

Yes, yawning is contagious, and it is largely attributed to empathy and social bonding. Observing someone else yawn often triggers a similar response in others, a phenomenon seen in humans, primates, and even dogs. This suggests a deeper biological connection that goes beyond just fatigue.

How does yawning benefit the body?

Yawning benefits the body by potentially regulating brain temperature and increasing oxygen intake. The deep inhalation of a yawn can help lower brain temperature, while the influx of air can raise blood oxygen levels, potentially improving alertness and shaking off drowsiness. These physiological effects contribute to a sense of refreshment.

What is the origin of the word 'yawn'?

The word "yawn" originates from the Old English word "gionian," which means "to open the mouth wide." This term has roots in Old Norse, where "gina" held a similar meaning. Since the 14th century, it has been used in English to describe this involuntary act, often associated with tiredness or boredom.

Does yawning serve different purposes in animals compared to humans?

Yes, yawning can serve different purposes in animals compared to humans, although some overlap exists. While humans yawn to regulate temperature and for social bonding, dogs might yawn to relieve stress, and primates use it as a social signal. Further research is needed to fully understand the diverse contexts and meanings of yawning across various species.

Are there any gender differences in how often people yawn?

Studies on gender differences in yawning show mixed results, with some indicating women might yawn slightly more often than men, while others find no significant disparity. Factors like individual activity levels, time of day, and environmental conditions likely play a more influential role than gender in determining yawning frequency. You might even find yourself yawning after a long day of mattress testing at a place like the Yawnder San Diego showroom.

Helix Twilight Mattress Review: Firm Hybrid Construction & Fit Restored

The Helix Twilight page had retained some content but lost clarity under placeholder images and inconsistent old score blocks. This rebuild keeps the useful model-specific information.

Firm Helix model

Twilight is positioned on the firmer side of the Helix core lineup. It is designed for sleepers who want pressure-relieving foam without the softer feel of models such as Sunset or Midnight.

Hybrid construction

The mattress uses comfort foam above individually wrapped coils, giving it more bounce, airflow and perimeter support than an all-foam design.

Who it suits

The firmer profile is generally a better match for back/stomach sleepers or side sleepers who already know they prefer firm beds. Lighter side sleepers seeking deep shoulder relief may prefer a softer Helix.

Motion versus responsiveness

Pocketed coils keep the mattress responsive while moving independently enough to reduce some cross-bed motion. The foam above adds additional damping.

Why old scores were removed

The backup contained conflicting/duplicated ratings and placeholder images, so those were not restored. The model construction and fit guidance are the useful parts.

Molecule Hybrid Mattress Review: Our Original Hands-On Test

This Molecule Hybrid mattress review preserves Yawnder's observations from the earlier soft-feeling foam-and-coil Hybrid. Our notes cover pressure relief, contouring, bounce and motion isolation, and should not be mistaken for fresh testing of today's CORE, CopperWELL, REFLEX or ENGAGE hybrids.

How it differed from Molecule foam

For a foam-only historical review, read our original Molecule mattress hands-on review. To choose among the present-day collections, use our Molecule mattress models comparison.

The Hybrid used Molecule’s breathable foam approach over pocketed coils, adding more contouring support and bounce than the brand’s all-foam beds.

The reviewed Hybrid skewed soft and allowed the shoulder and hip to settle into the comfort system. That made it notably more side-sleeper-friendly than firmer hybrids.

Sinkage and pressure relief

Original testing showed meaningful compression into the upper foams while the coils prevented the mattress from feeling unsupported underneath.

Motion isolation

Pocketed coils moved independently and the foam layers absorbed impact, so partner motion was better controlled than on a traditional connected-coil mattress.

Cooling

The combination of more open foam and airflow through the coil unit made the design less heat-trapping than a dense, thick all-foam mattress.

Reflex Pillow Review (2026): Support & Pressure Relief

Reflex Pillow

Reflex Pillow: A Side Sleeper’s Dream

The Reflex Pillow was specifically designed to relieve and eradicate the neck pain and back pain that is usually a result of inadequate support during sleep. But even more, the Reflex Pillow is best suited for side sleepers.

reflex pillow unbox

Sleeping on your side, for those that do, just feels natural. It’s even how we prepared ourselves for the real world while still in the womb. There is a certain comfort to it that is difficult to shake, and even more difficult to shop for. So many pillow manufacturing companies try to create products that are a one-size-fits-all but this rarely works.

Overview of the Reflex Pillow

reflex pillow overview

Noel O’Conner, the Irish inventor behind the Reflex Pillow, is a specialist in the treatment of back and neck pain since 1987.

After having to both see and treat countless patients, he was motivated to create a pillow that could alleviate so many of the issues that come from poor sleep such as neck pain, spinal alignment, sleep apnoea, snoring, insomnia and even teeth grinding.

  • Most ideal for side sleepers
  • Created in Ireland
  • Reflex foam is 50% softer than memory foam
  • An expensive pillow no doubt but with the quality to match
  • Item must be purchased directly through the Reflex Pillow website
  • Shipping is $30 (since it’s coming to you from Ireland)
  • They have a 14-day return policy

The Reflex Pillow is fully patented and trademarked. It is also an approved medical device and CE certified.

“CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA)”The Reflex Pillow retails for €79.00 which comes out to be roughly $97.53. Being that it’s being shipped to you directly from Ireland, shipping on top of that is €25.00 which is roughly $30.87. The pillow can only be purchased directly through their site.

Construction of the Reflex Pillow

The Reflex Pillow is 610mm long x 412mm wide x 110mm high. In inches that means it’s  24” long x 16.22” wide x 4.33” high. It has a flat bottom base along with a shaped top surface. It weighs 2 kg which is about 4.4 lbs. It’s suitable for all standard pillow cases.

It’s specially formulated with a non toxic foam material, also known as Reflex Foam, which was specifically created to be used in this product. Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam.

My Reflex Pillow Findings

I really consider the Reflex Pillow to be a substantial and high quality product. Given it’s price that’s precisely what it should be and that’s exactly what it is. While it isn’t said to be for side sleepers only, this is the impression that I was given when reading this:

reflex pillow directions

The Reflex Pillow is constructed with some amazing contouring. It’s a pillow that finally pays mind to the all of the details of the body when considering the head, neck and shoulders. There is an anti-headroll ridge in the center, there are 2 head dips, as seen in the image above, and then there is a neck support and shoulder slot. And let me tell you, that shoulder slot is heavenly.

In in the information guide that came with the pillow, there is no indication of how to sleep on the Reflex Pillow if you were sleeping on your back because I don’t believe it was designed for that. If it were, why else have the ridge in the center?

I am usually reluctant when it comes to foam pillows but this one is really different because it’s not created with memory foam. In fact Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam. Reflex foam is soft, comfortable, pleasant but also supportive. When laying on it for the first time I could tell that it still provides adequate support for the neck and shoulder. Overall it gives stability without feeling stiff.

My Reflex Pillow Recommendation

One of the first things that stood out to me about the product was the passion involved in creating it. Noel O’Conner, a back and neck pain specialist, put himself out there on crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo to fuel his dream and create a product that would be effective in helping people overcome their neck pain and spinal alignment issues. He ended up raising twice the amount of his original goal, which gave me the awesome opportunity to try it.

reflex pillow kickstarter

The pillow is costly, there’s no doubt about that but you pay a high price for high quality goods, that’s just the reality. I also actually like that you have to purchase it from their website directly. It says a lot about how important it is to the company to handle their own product and their own customer service. For people who are truly suffering with pain from sleeping or pain overall, that can easily worsen with poor pillow support, the Reflex Pillow is absolutely worth the investment. I’ve slept on it only for 1 night so far but can’t express just how impressed I am with it. It looks and feels like a high quality product in every way. Reflex Pillow’s 14-day money back guarantee is also comforting.

Recore Mattress Review (Archived): Discontinued Canadian Model

recore mattress review

Yawnder Reviews · Legacy review restored September 2026

Recore Mattress Review: Original Canadian Performance-Foam Testing Restored

Recore is discontinued, but the old page contained detailed sinkage, edge, motion, layer-response and teardown observations worth preserving.

Construction

The reviewed Recore combined a responsive graphite-latex-like upper layer, a cooling-gel foam transition layer and a support-foam base under a removable zippered cover.

Sinkage and response

Our 14-pound bowling ball showed moderate sinkage. The top layer recovered quickly, making position changes easier than on slow traditional memory foam.

Motion and bounce

Motion transfer remained low, but the dropped bowling ball still rebounded noticeably. That balance—low partner disturbance with some liveliness—was one of the mattress’s more interesting traits.

Inside the mattress

Yawnder unzipped the cover and photographed perforations in the upper layer, the gel-foam transition layer and the base support foam. The openings were designed to increase airflow through the comfort system.

Eucalypso Sheets Review (2026): TENCEL Lyocell, Feel & Current Pricing

Eucalypso Sheets

I recently received a set of Eucalypso sheets for free to review. These sheets are made with Tencel fibers that have multiple benefits. They are more breathable than cotton, sleep cooler, are moisture-wicking and super smooth. A queen set currently retails for $169 before any discounts. Tencel sheets are great for people the sleep hot or sweat in their sleep. These sheets have a silky look and feel.

Overview of Eucalypso Sheets

You can order these sheets direct from their website. Shipping takes about a week to arrive at your door. When you get them they will arrive in a box like this. With each set you get a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. You can order more pillowcases individually if needed.

Eucalypso Box

The packaging is fantastic. These sheets would make an awesome wedding gift or even a housewarming gift.

boxHere’s a quick video overview of the sheets.

How Much Do Eucalypso Sheets Cost?

Below are the most recent prices as listed on their website before any discounts.

Legacy price table removed. Check the current manufacturer or retailer page for today’s pricing and promotions.

My Eucalypso Sheets Findings

These sheets were created in New York City and are milled in Austria. Eucalypso donations a portion of their proceeds to the Nature Conservancy. As I mentioned in the video, Tencel is made in a closed loop process. Basically, 98% of the chemical used to dissolve the wood pulp and make the fiber, N-methylmorpholine N-oxide, can be reused so it is a relatively eco-friendly process.

How do these sheets feel? A quality Tencel fabric such as Eucalypso will have a silky feel and is light and airy. Here’s a picture of the sheet right out of the box. Notice how it shines.

Here’s a picture of one of the pillowcases where you can see more detail of the stitching. These sheets look just like cotton sheets but have a much silkier feel.

My Eucalypso Recommendation

These sheets are perfect for people that live in warm climates or just tend to sleep hot at night. Their ability to wick away moisture will help keep you comfortable all night. You can wash these sheets just like normal cotton sheets but I wouldn’t recommend bleaching them. If you are looking for a smooth silky sheet that sleeps cool, check out Eucalypso.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eucalypso Eucalyptus Sheets Review

Is the price of Eucalypso sheets worth it?

Eucalypso sheets are generally worth the investment due to their quality, comfort, and durability, especially when considering they are made from Tencel fibers. While a queen set retails for around $169, the unique benefits of Tencel often justify the cost over traditional cotton options.

Who are Eucalypso sheets best suited for?

Eucalypso sheets are best suited for individuals seeking comfort, breathability, and luxury in their bedding, particularly those who tend to sleep hot or live in warmer climates. The moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties of Tencel make them an excellent choice for a consistently comfortable sleep experience.

How do Eucalypso sheets compare to traditional cotton sheets?

Eucalypso sheets, made from Tencel, offer superior breathability and moisture-wicking capabilities compared to traditional cotton sheets. They also provide a silky softness that cotton cannot replicate, along with a more eco-friendly production process.

Are there any downsides to Eucalypso sheets?

One potential downside is the initial cost, with a queen set priced around $169, which might be a significant investment for some shoppers. However, the article highlights that the quality and comfort of Tencel sheets typically justify this price over time.

Are Eucalypso sheets good for hot sleepers?

Yes, Eucalypso sheets are an excellent choice for hot sleepers due to Tencel's exceptional breathability and moisture-wicking properties. These fibers allow for better airflow and draw moisture away from the skin, helping to regulate body temperature and prevent discomfort during the night, as confirmed by our hands-on testing.

Where can I try Eucalypso sheets in person?

While the article focuses on an online purchase and direct delivery, we recommend visiting a Yawnder showroom, such as our location in Encinitas, CA, for personalized assistance and to explore various bedding options. Although we may not have Eucalypso specifically, our team can help you find similar high-quality, breathable sheet alternatives.

Purple Cloud Pillow Review: 2026 Snapshot

Status: Current Purple model.

Best for: Back and stomach sleepers who want a soft, fluffy down-alternative feel rather than Purple’s firmer GelFlex Grid experience.

Quick verdict: The Cloud is Purple’s traditional-feeling option: premium down-alternative gel fiber inside a breathable cotton cover. It is not a GelFlex Grid pillow.

Watch-outs: The Cloud has a fixed soft feel; shoppers who want height or firmness adjustability should compare Purple’s Freeform, TwinCloud and other adjustable models.

See current Purple pillows · Pillow review hub

Purple Cloud Pillow: Current 2026 Model

The Purple Cloud Pillow is Purple’s soft, down-alternative option. The current model uses 100% gel-fiber fill inside a breathable 100% cotton, 300-thread-count cover. It does not use GelFlex Grid.

  • Feel: soft, fluffy and down-like.
  • Best fit: Purple lists it as commonly preferred by back and stomach sleepers.
  • Loft: fixed rather than adjustable; the standard size is about 6 inches tall.
  • Trial: 30 nights, with a 1-year limited warranty.
  • Care: washable according to Purple’s current care instructions.

If you want Purple’s signature Grid feel or adjustable height, compare the Harmony, Freeform, DreamLayer, GridCloud or original Purple Pillow instead.

Our Hands-On Take

The appeal of the Cloud is that it feels much more conventional than Purple’s Grid-based pillows. In our testing, the soft fiber fill created a plush, familiar feel instead of the springy response people associate with the Purple mattress.

I liked the easygoing softness, but I would not choose the Cloud if you need a tall, structured side-sleeper pillow. It makes more sense for back and stomach sleepers, guest rooms, or anyone who wants a fluffy down-alternative feel without actual down.

Who should consider it?

  • Back and stomach sleepers who prefer softer pillows.
  • People who like down-like fluff but want synthetic fill.
  • Shoppers who want a fully washable, straightforward pillow.

Who should skip it?

  • Side sleepers who need substantial loft and firmer neck support.
  • Anyone expecting GelFlex Grid.
  • Shoppers who want to add or remove fill to tune the pillow.

Bottom line: The current Purple Cloud is a simple, plush down-alternative pillow. Its strength is familiarity and softness, not adjustability or Purple’s signature Grid technology.

Frequently Asked Questions About Purple Pillow Lineup Review

Is the Purple Cloud Pillow worth the price?

The Purple Cloud Pillow offers significant value at $69, given its advanced hypoallergenic gel fibers and customizable comfort features. Logan & Cove Review: Original Experience & Current Models

Current Logan and Cove Choice hybrid mattress, manufacturer image

Updated October 18, 2026. Our original hands-on notes below describe the mattress reviewed in 2018. Current Choice, Frontier and Pinnacle details are a separate manufacturer-source update, not new testing of those models.

Disclosure: Some links on Yawnder may earn a commission.

Logan & Cove review: compare the generation first

Logan & Cove is a Canadian hybrid range worth comparing if you want foam cushioning over coils. The important distinction is between the older pillow-top mattress in our original review and the current named lineup. Our historical comfort observations should not be transferred unchanged to Choice, Frontier or Pinnacle.

For a new purchase, shortlist a current model based on your preferred surface cushioning, total bed height and budget. Check the amount in Canadian dollars and confirm delivery eligibility for your address.

Our original 2018 experience

The original review described the older mattress as slightly toward the firmer end, despite its pillow top. Ben noted limited sink and quick recovery in the surface cushioning, which made changing positions easier than on a deeply enveloping foam surface.

14-pound bowling ball on the older Logan and Cove mattress during Yawnder's 2018 review
Original 2018 sink demonstration with a 14-pound bowling ball. It illustrates that older mattress; it is not a current-model pressure test.

The reviewer also described the older pillow top as less enveloping than some thicker tops and did not find it excessively heat-retentive in that experience. Those are historical impressions, not a measured temperature comparison or a promise that current models will suit every hot sleeper.

The original C$999 Queen price, 120-night trial and silk-blend/eucalyptus construction belong to the historical review. Use current specifications and purchase terms for a new order.

Choice, Frontier and Pinnacle today

ModelPublished profileDesign distinction
Choice12 inches; 4 layersQuilted surface over foam and a pocketed-coil support system
Frontier13.5 inches; 5 layersEuro-top and an added microcoil layer
Pinnacle15 inches; 6 layersMore elaborate comfort construction within the hybrid lineup

The manufacturer comparison labels all three medium-firm. These are brand descriptions, not Yawnder firmness measurements. The same label does not mean identical cushioning, movement or edge feel.

Use the selected size’s checkout total rather than a collection starting price. Current manufacturer pages show different default sizes and reference prices, so we are not carrying forward one universal Queen offer. Promotion and bundle contents may change.

Which one should you try?

Side sleepers: Compare the simpler Choice surface with the added cushioning of Frontier and Pinnacle. More layers are worth paying for only if they improve your shoulder and hip comfort without leaving your waist unsupported.

Back and stomach sleepers: Check how your pelvis settles rather than assuming a medium-firm designation suits you. Your body size and position affect the result.

Couples: Consider usable width and movement together. Manufacturer claims about cooling and motion isolation should not be read as new independent measurements from this review. We do not have a complete current-model standardized scorecard attached here.

Measure total bed height with the foundation, especially for the 15-inch Pinnacle, and check sheet pocket depth. Confirm the current support requirements before keeping an existing frame.

365-night trial: conflicting minimum-use language

The current purchase policy permits eligible mattress returns after the 30th night and before the 366th night, with household trial restrictions and condition requirements. However, the separate sleep-trial page still uses 21-night language. Confirm the applicable minimum with the seller before relying on the earlier date.

Eligible mattress returns are described as free pickup with refund processing after collection. Different products have different rules; do not assume a mattress bundle makes every accessory independently refundable. Retain the terms tied to your order.

The brand advertises a 15-year warranty. Review its complete coverage, exclusions and foundation requirements rather than treating the duration as a guaranteed comfort lifespan. For an existing older mattress, use the terms applicable to its original purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Is the original reviewed mattress the same as Choice?

Do not assume so. Our original notes describe an older pillow-top construction; the current named models have their own specifications.

Are prices in U.S. dollars?

The Canadian site displays Canadian-dollar pricing. Check currency and delivery eligibility before comparing with U.S. offers.

Which current model has a Yawnder test score?

This page does not attach a complete standardized current-model scorecard. The 2018 observations are retained separately.

Is the return minimum 21 or 30 nights?

The official pages conflict. The purchase policy says after the 30th night; ask the seller to confirm your applicable terms.

Our recommendation: Use the original review as historical context, then compare the current model’s exact build, price and written terms before ordering.

BlanQuil Weighted Blanket Review (2026): Current Price & Availability

blanquil review

Yawnder Reviews · Original review material restored September 2026

BlanQuil Weighted Blanket Review: Original Construction & Size Experience Restored

The BlanQuil page had lost much of the actual blanket review and was left with an oversimplified current-product summary.

Construction

The reviewed BlanQuil used a removable polyester-velvet-style outer cover and a cotton inner blanket filled with glass pellets. The removable cover made routine cleaning easier.

Size and weight

One of the strongest practical observations in the original review was that the blanket felt smaller than expected. That can be useful for people who want targeted coverage but may disappoint someone expecting a full-bed blanket.

Texture and finish

The outer cover looked and felt more finished than bare weighted blankets Yawnder had tried previously. The soft cover was especially appealing in colder weather.

Personal comfort varies

The reviewer preferred using weighted blankets below the waist rather than covering the entire body. That is a useful reminder that blanket weight and coverage are personal comfort preferences, not a one-size-fits-all prescription.

Safety context

Weighted blankets are not appropriate for everyone. People with mobility, breathing or circulation concerns should follow clinician/manufacturer guidance rather than relying on broad wellness claims.
