Newton Crib Mattress Review: Breathable Core & Washable Design Restored
The Newton page had lost most of its explanation of the woven core and washability that distinguish the mattress. This restoration keeps those product facts while removing unsupported safety overclaims.
Wovenaire-style core
Newton’s defining feature is a highly open, woven polymer core designed to allow substantial airflow through the mattress rather than using a conventional foam or fiber core.
Washability
The core and removable cover are designed around easy cleaning. That practical washability is one of the strongest reasons parents consider Newton compared with traditional crib mattresses.
Firm sleep surface
Crib mattresses are intentionally much firmer than adult mattresses. Newton’s open-core construction is designed to maintain that firm, flat support while adding airflow and easier cleaning.
Certifications
The older page referenced GREENGUARD Gold certification. That is useful context for emissions testing, but it should not be interpreted as a guarantee against every possible sleep risk.

Avocado crib mattresses: our verdict
Avocado is worth comparing if certified organic materials are a priority and the mattress meets your crib's exact requirements. The most important shopping distinction is between the Organic and Luxury Organic models: both have two-stage designs, but their construction, size, weight, price and trial differ.
A higher price, organic certification or plush toddler surface does not establish a safer infant sleep environment. Use the correct labeled side and follow the crib and mattress instructions.

These are October 2026 listing snapshots. Confirm current price, dimensions, availability and policy before ordering. The Luxury product currently uses the URL ending in “organic-crib-mattress,” which makes it easy to confuse with the separate lower-priced Organic model.
Older names and specification conflicts
The earlier review included an Eco Organic model as a current option. Its checked product URL now returns a missing-page message, so we are not presenting it as confirmed available. Old stock may have different specifications or terms.
The Luxury page lists 242 coils, while a manufacturer comparison article describes 170. We have not independently resolved that discrepancy. Ask Avocado which specification applies to your actual model rather than using coil count as a quality ranking.
Materials and care
The brand lists certified organic cotton, wool and latex for both current models, with additional materials and a coil construction in Luxury. Check the exact model's documentation and certificate scope. Certification does not mean zero processing additives or suitability for every sensitivity.
The lower-priced Organic listing says it does not use a waterproof coating. A separate fitted protector may be offered; follow the mattress and crib instructions for compatible accessories, fit and cleaning. Do not assume an organic cover is waterproof or machine washable.
Safe sleep comes before comfort ratings
CPSC guidance says to use infant sleep products that meet federal requirements, place babies on their backs and keep the sleep space bare apart from a fitted sheet. Do not add pillows, loose blankets, bumpers, positioners or a comfort topper.
Confirm that the mattress fits the specific crib properly and that its thickness is allowed. Use the labeled infant side for infant use and follow manufacturer and pediatric guidance before changing to the toddler side. An adult's comfort impression or a numerical pressure-relief score does not establish infant safety.
Trial, warranty and shipping
The product listings advertise a 30-night trial for Organic and 100 nights for Luxury, with the trial limited to one mattress under Avocado's policy. Read the current return policy for timing, eligibility and handling. Do not assume the adult mattress trial applies.
Both list a 25-year limited warranty. Warranty coverage is for qualifying defects under its terms, not a suggestion to keep using a damaged mattress or a guarantee of 25 years of comfort. Shipping surcharges are noted for Alaska and Hawaii. Confirm dispatch timing for the exact model, particularly made-to-order Luxury.

The Saatva crib page had lost most of the older review’s construction detail and long-term parent-use context.
Dual-sided design
The reviewed Saatva crib mattress used a firmer infant side and a somewhat softer toddler side so the same mattress could continue in use as the child grew.
Construction
The older article described an organic-cotton cover, natural-fiber comfort materials and an individually encased recycled-steel coil unit. That spring-based design differs from many foam crib mattresses.
Parent-use context
