MedCline Shoulder Relief System: our take
The main reason to consider MedCline is its arm opening: it gives your lower arm somewhere to go while you lie on your side. That makes it a more specialized purchase than a conventional body pillow. Its size, adjustment period and return fee deserve as much attention as the advertised benefits.
Consider it if pressure on your downside shoulder makes your usual side-sleeping position uncomfortable and your clinician agrees this positioning is appropriate. Skip the assumption that a pillow system will diagnose or fix the cause of shoulder pain. Our recommendation is about the design and purchase terms, rather than a measured pain-relief result.

What comes in the system?
The three components are an inclined wedge, an insert pillow and a body pillow. The arm pocket is a feature of the wedge, rather than a separate third pillow. Both left- and right-side use are supported. The Shoulder system has a lower incline than MedCline’s Reflux system; the products should not be treated as interchangeable.
MedCline describes the body and insert pillows as shredded memory foam. You can redistribute filling to change support. That is different from changing the wedge’s elevation.

Fit and bedroom space
| Check before ordering | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Height-based size selection | Use the current product selector to choose the appropriate system. |
| Approximately half a queen bed | This is a substantial setup, particularly for couples. |
| Side-sleeping preference | The arm opening is designed around this position. |
| Existing injury or medical condition | Ask your clinician whether the position suits your circumstances. |
These are manufacturer specifications and design observations. We have not measured pressure reduction, cooling or overnight movement in a Yawnder test.

MedCline pros and cons
| Reasons to consider it | Tradeoffs to weigh |
|---|---|
| A dedicated opening gives the lower arm space instead of trapping it directly beneath the torso. | The wedge and body pillow occupy considerably more room than a standard pillow. |
| The coordinated wedge, insert and body pillow let you build a supported side-sleeping position. | Rolling over involves repositioning within a system rather than simply turning on a flat mattress. |
| Available in two height-based sizes, with washable removable cases. | The foam itself cannot be machine washed, and extra cases add to ownership cost. |
| Manufacturer setup support is included. | The return policy requires a minimum adjustment period and deducts a fee. |
Who should consider the Shoulder Relief System?
Our strongest design-based match is a committed side sleeper who finds the position of the lower arm awkward on a normal pillow. If you routinely tuck that arm beneath your head or pillow, the dedicated pocket is the feature worth examining. The body pillow also provides something to hug and position between the legs, so this is a coordinated setup for someone who already likes substantial pillow support.
You also need to be comfortable reserving a sizeable part of your bed for it. A solo sleeper with plenty of mattress space faces fewer practical compromises than a couple sharing a smaller bed. The system makes more sense when you want its particular arm-pocket arrangement than when you are simply shopping for a softer head pillow.
Who may prefer a different solution?
Back and stomach sleepers are unlikely to get the same use from a system built around side sleeping. Frequent position changers should think carefully about how often they will need to rearrange the body pillow and find the arm opening again. If your primary complaint is that your head pillow is too high or low, start by comparing adjustable-loft pillows before committing to a full wedge system.
MedCline specifically advises against this system for people with lower-back or hip injuries and recommends checking with a physician about existing conditions. Shoulder discomfort has different causes; the presence of an arm pocket does not establish that this position suits a particular injury.
Sizes, dimensions and bed space
The following measurements and size recommendations come from MedCline’s current Shoulder Relief product page, checked October 18, 2026. They are manufacturer specifications, rather than Yawnder measurements.
| Specification | Small/Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer height guide | 5 feet 9 inches and below | 5 feet 10 inches and taller |
| Wedge dimensions | 30 inches wide × 31 inches long × 6 inches tall | 30 inches wide × 34 inches long × 6 inches tall |
| Body pillow dimensions | 22 inches wide × 50 inches long × 6 inches tall | |
| Listed incline | 10 degrees | |
Before ordering, mark out the wedge footprint on your mattress and account for the body pillow extending farther down the bed. MedCline describes the complete setup as occupying roughly half a queen mattress. The wedge dimensions alone do not describe every inch of space occupied when you are using the body pillow.
MedCline vs. a body pillow, wedge or Reflux system
| Option | What it offers | Reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| MedCline Shoulder Relief System | A lower-incline wedge with an arm pocket, plus insert and body pillows. | You specifically want room for the lower arm within a coordinated side-sleeping setup. |
| Conventional body pillow | Something to hug and place between your legs, without the same integrated wedge and arm opening. | You want simpler positioning support without adding a full inclined system. |
| Conventional wedge pillow | An inclined surface; designs vary and many lack an arm opening. | Your main priority is elevation and you do not need this particular arm-pocket design. |
| MedCline Reflux Relief System | A different system with a higher incline and a different intended use. | Reflux is your main concern and you have checked which positioning is appropriate with your clinician. |
For broader options, see our shoulder-pain pillow coverage and MedCline Reflux review. A head pillow, mattress and positioning system solve different comfort problems, so decide which part of your setup needs changing before buying.
Price, bundles and overall value
The most useful value question is whether you will use all three components. If you only want a body pillow, the complete system adds cost and bulk that may be unnecessary. If you want the integrated arm opening and incline, comparing its price with a basic pillow alone misses the main design difference.
MedCline offers Standard and Deluxe bundles. Check the exact contents: an additional case set is useful during laundry, but it does not automatically mean you are getting a different wedge. Compare the final total after any promotion, shipping and optional accessories. Pricing changes, so use the current product selector for the amount you will actually pay.
Our buying advice: choose the size first, then decide whether extra cases justify the bundle premium. Keep a copy of the seller’s return terms. An adjustment period with a return fee is a different proposition from a free, no-questions-asked trial.
Setup and cleaning
MedCline says adjustment can take up to 30 nights. Its setup instructions suggest experimenting with arm and pillow positions. The removable cases are washable; the foam components should be spot cleaned only. Follow the current care instructions instead of putting the foam in a washing machine.
A practical setup checklist
- Confirm the model and size. Follow the Shoulder Relief instructions supplied with your system; photos of older MedCline models may look different.
- Arrange the complete setup. Position the wedge, insert and body pillow together before evaluating the fit. A misplaced component can change how the arrangement feels.
- Check the arm opening. Use the manufacturer’s demonstrated arm positions. Your lower arm should have room rather than being forced into an uncomfortable angle.
- Review head and neck comfort. Avoid assuming that piling your usual head pillow on top improves the setup. Ask MedCline’s support team about positioning if your neck feels awkward.
- Change one variable at a time. Note the arm position or pillow arrangement you changed so you can identify what helped.
- Track the return dates. Record delivery, the minimum 30-day period and the 60-day request deadline. Contact support early if you are struggling.
The adjustment window is an opportunity to assess fit, not a reason to push through worsening symptoms. If a position causes new pain, numbness or other concerning symptoms, stop using that position and seek appropriate advice.
Cleaning and everyday ownership
Wash the removable covers according to their labels and keep the foam components out of the washing machine. An extra case set can reduce downtime on wash day. Before storing the system or carrying it between rooms, consider the combined size of the wedge and long body pillow; this is less convenient to move than a conventional head pillow.
Returns: the cost to know
The published policy requires keeping the system for at least 30 days and working with support before a return. Return requests must fall within 60 days of receipt. The refund subtracts a $25 fee per system, and original shipping is not refunded. Separately purchased pillows and cases have different restrictions, including no returns once opened. Confirm the policy for your seller before paying.
Questions before buying
Does it guarantee pain relief?
No. The design creates room for the lower arm, but individual comfort and the cause of pain vary. We do not have evidence supporting a guarantee of pain-free sleep.
Is this a treatment for snoring or sleep apnea?
We have not established that claim for this system. Do not purchase it as a substitute for evaluation or prescribed treatment.
Should I choose the Shoulder or Reflux version?
Compare their different positioning and intended uses with MedCline and your clinician, especially if you have both concerns.
