The Avocado Luxury Mattress is the first certified organic mattress that I have reviewed. This is a big step for Avocado because it means they can actually claim to have an organic mattress, unlike other companies that use the word “natural” which is ambiguous and doesn’t have any specific criteria. I have enjoyed watching Avocado grow as a company since it first started back in 2016 with its original mattress. They are now a full-fledged brand with a whole suite of products to outfit your bedroom. I expect this brand to continue to develop quality, sustainable goods that will be healthy for you and the planet. Below are my thoughts on the Luxury Plus mattress. While it’s certainly expensive, people who are committed to a sustainable lifestyle that want only the best will find it in this mattress.
Ordering the Avocado Luxury Plus Mattress
You can order the Avocado directly from their website. If you are interested in giving it a try, it is available to try in their Los Angeles showroom or at our Yawnder Showrooms. This is an expensive mattress so even despite the generous 365-night trial, it may be worth testing out to make sure you like it. Unlike the other Avocado mattress models, this one comes with free white glove delivery and given the weight it’s necessary. It’s simply too big to roll pack. That means after you place your order you will be contacted to schedule delivery and the company will set it up in your bedroom and remove any of the packaging. Lead time on this mattress is also longer, about 4 weeks because it takes longer to make and they are made to only after you place your order.
Construction of the Avocado Luxury Plus Mattress
There are two models you can order. For this review I was given the original Luxury Plus, you have the option to add the attached pillow top for an extra $800 in a queen size. Adding the pillowtop is almost like adding another mattress to it since you get another layer of coils and latex.

Tuft rosettes attached to a woven tape made from GOTS organic cotton is used to eliminate the need for glues, as the Luxury Plush Mattress is tufted with steel needles by hand in up to 32 locations, depending on size. Rosettes are made with organic certified wool sourced from the United States. Our closing woven tape is made from 100% GOTS organic certified cotton (450), sourced from Canada. Recyclable, aluminum, bull-hook staples are used instead of glue to bind interior perimeter to latex. Our green embroidery thread used for our logo is even STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified as non-toxic.
No Flame Retardants
No flame retardants of any kind are used. Our Luxury Plush Mattress meets all safety standards by only using GOTS organic certified wool and densely packed natural fibers. No other chemical treatments, rayon blends, or fiberglass fiber fire socks are used.
Carbon Negative Production & Shipping
Avocado is a carbon negative business. That means we voluntarily offset more than 100% of our emissions, from resource extraction to shipping, by supporting carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change and support innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

Below is a cross section of the, “Medium Soft” version or non-pillow top option.
The Luxury Plush Mattress is 15” thick and anything but standard, with up to 1,414 pocketed coils. No memory foam or polyurethane foams are used. Absolutely no fiberglass fire socks, chemical flame retardants or other craziness. Just layer upon layer of patented convoluted GOLS organic latex and other naturally sustainable and organic certified materials.
And here’s what you get if you add the optional pillow top.
Our Plush Pillow-top Mattress is 18 inches thick and adds 1,722 low-profile pocketed coils in the topper, for the ultimate in body-hugging and contouring support. It’s softer than the standard version and all but eliminates rolling together (unless you want to), isolating motion from your partner’s movement. Deep pocket sheets are required, and we offer several luxe options.
My Avocado Organic Luxury Plus Findings
The first thing I noticed about this mattress is just how massive it is. It can weigh up to 226 lbs. if you order the California King size in a pillowtop version. Thankfully there are handles on all sides in case you ever need to move it or rotate it.
This mattress is plenty soft without the pillow top and is designed for people that like a softer feel but even though it feels soft, you get a lot of support and I didn’t feel like I was sinking too deep into the mattress. I would recommend this for side sleepers but it will also work for back and occasional stomach sleepers too. Of course, if you want to go all out and are a dedicated side sleeper, give the pillow top option a try. I don’t think you will find anything more luxurious feeling in an organic mattress.
On top of all this, you still get Avocado’s 1-year trial. This means with this mattress not only will the delivery free to your house, they will also set it up in your bedroom, haul away any packaging and you can sleep on it for a year before deciding if you want to keep it or not. If you don’t you can contact them for a full refund! This is absolutely unheard of with mattresses at this price point and with these specs.
If you are committed to a lifestyle with a minimal environmental impact and want to sleep on a certified organic mattress with zero VOCs this is the best you can get. Yes, it costs double what you will pay for the original avocado but you are basically getting two mattresses worth of material and this mattress will certainly last longer than your average mattress in a box. If paying that much up front is an issue, Avocado also offers financing to pay over time. It’s certainly an investment but one that will pay dividends in quality sleep for years to come.

How Long Will the Avocado Luxury Mattress Last?
The lifespan of the Avocado Luxury Plush mattress will depend on several factors, including how well it is cared for and how frequently it is used. However, in general, the mattress is designed to last for many years with proper maintenance.
Avocado offers a 25-year limited warranty on the mattress, which is a good indication of the company’s confidence in its durability. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, as well as sagging or indentations that exceed 1 inch.
To maximize the lifespan of your Avocado Luxury Plush mattress, it’s important to follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer. This includes rotating the mattress every 6 months to prevent uneven wear, using a mattress protector to prevent spills and stains, and avoiding excessive moisture or heat exposure.
With proper care, a high-quality mattress like the Avocado Luxury Plush can last anywhere from 8 to 12 years or more. However, it’s important to note that individual experiences may vary depending on factors like usage, body weight, and sleep position.

Does the Avocado Luxury Mattress Work With An Adjustable Base?
Yes, the Avocado Luxury Plush mattress is compatible with an adjustable base. In fact, Avocado offers its own adjustable base, called the Avocado Adjustable Bed Frame, which is designed to work seamlessly with its mattresses.
The Avocado Luxury Plush mattress is constructed with natural Dunlop latex and pocketed coils, which provide good support and flexibility for use on an adjustable base. However, it’s always a good idea to check the compatibility of your mattress and base before making a purchase, as some mattresses may not be suitable for use with certain types of adjustable bases.
When using an adjustable base with the Avocado Luxury Plush mattress, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and adjust the base gradually to avoid putting too much stress on the mattress. It’s also a good idea to use a mattress protector to prevent damage or stains, and to rotate the mattress regularly to promote even wear.
