Turmerry Latex Mattress Review — Organic Materials, Firmness Options, Pricing, and Alternatives

Turmerry organic latex mattress review

Turmerry Latex Mattress Review

Turmerry builds its mattresses around organic latex, wool, and cotton. This is a very different experience from the usual memory foam bed in a box. You get a springy, buoyant feel, more natural materials, and the ability to tune firmness by swapping layers. The trade off is a higher price and a bit more work on setup.

Turmerry organic latex mattress in a bedroom

Overall rating 8.9 out of 10. Strong support and pressure relief, clear eco story, and true adjustability through stackable latex layers. Best suited for shoppers who want natural materials and do not mind a mattress with a more involved setup.

Organic latex Organic cotton and wool Layered build Multiple firmness levels

Bottom line

Turmerry feels like a mattress built for people who are done with synthetic foam and want natural materials, real support, and the option to dial in firmness later. If you want a deep, slow sink or a one piece mattress that you never touch after setup, this is not it. If you want bounce, spinal alignment, and an organic story, it belongs on your short list.

Scores are editor estimates based on Turmerry specs, latex performance in store and at home, and comparisons to other organic and natural latex brands in a similar price band.

Construction, firmness options, and sizes

Turmerry builds its latex mattresses with stacked layers of organic latex, wool, and cotton. The main idea is simple. Instead of one slab of foam in a glued cover, you get separate layers that you can rearrange to change firmness. That adds flexibility and also gives you a better idea of what you are actually sleeping on.

Natural latex layers with pinholes for breathability

Here is a simplified view of how the line looks across sizes.

Size Typical layers Firmness choices Height choices Approximate price range
Twin Three latex layers Soft, medium, firm Eight and ten inches Seven hundred fifty to one thousand two hundred dollars
Twin XL Three latex layers Soft, medium, firm Eight and ten inches Eight hundred to one thousand three hundred dollars
Full Three latex layers Soft, medium, firm Eight and ten inches Nine hundred fifty to one thousand five hundred dollars
Queen Three or four latex layers Soft, medium, firm, extra firm Eight, ten, or twelve inches One thousand one hundred to one thousand eight hundred dollars
King Three or four latex layers Soft, medium, firm, extra firm Eight, ten, or twelve inches One thousand four hundred to two thousand three hundred dollars
California King Three or four latex layers Soft, medium, firm, extra firm Eight, ten, or twelve inches One thousand five hundred to two thousand four hundred dollars
Split Queen Individual stacks per side Soft, medium, firm per side Eight, ten, or twelve inches One thousand three hundred to two thousand dollars
Split King Individual stacks per side Soft, medium, firm per side Eight, ten, or twelve inches One thousand six hundred to two thousand five hundred dollars

Exact specs will vary slightly by model. The main pattern is the same. Latex layers in a zip cover with wool and cotton up top for comfort and temperature regulation.

Feel and firmness on Turmerry

Latex has a very distinct feel. It pushes back and lifts you instead of letting you sink and stay there. On Turmerry, that means buoyant support, quick response when you change position, and less of the stuck sensation that can show up on memory foam.

The soft setups contour more at the shoulder and hip for side sleepers. Medium works well for many side and back sleepers who want support without a board like surface. Firm and extra firm builds land closer to what heavier back and stomach sleepers often need to keep the spine in line.

Because the mattress comes in layers, you can move a firmer layer up or down in the stack to change feel. You are not locked into one firmness the way you are with a single slab build.

Cooling and breathability

Turmerry cuts the latex with pinholes that run through the layers. That increases airflow and gives heat somewhere to go. Latex in general sleeps cooler than dense memory foam of the same thickness, and the wool and cotton in the cover help buffer temperature and moisture.

In practice this lands in the comfortable range for most warm sleepers. You get less heat build up around the torso and fewer wake ups from feeling sweaty compared to dense synthetic foam stacks.

Pros and cons of an all latex build

Turmerry leans into an all latex design for many models, so it is worth being clear about what that brings to the table compared to hybrid or memory foam beds.

Upsides

  • Strong pressure relief with real lift, not slow sink. Latex spreads weight and keeps the spine closer to a neutral curve.
  • Very good durability. Quality latex can last many years, which spreads the higher purchase price over a longer window.
  • More natural story. Natural latex, wool, and organic cotton are all materials that eco minded shoppers tend to look for.
  • Good motion control without dead feel. You get less partner disturbance and still have enough bounce to move easily.
  • Low odor and fewer harsh chemicals than many mass market foam beds.

Trade offs

  • Higher price than many foam beds that use synthetic materials.
  • Feel skews toward medium and firm. Ultra plush cloud like builds are better handled by tall pillow tops or softer foams.
  • Mattress weight. Solid latex is heavy and can be harder to move, even though layers arrive separate in the box.
  • Setup is more involved. You will unzip the cover, position layers, and sometimes adjust them a couple of times to get the right mix.

Price, trial, and warranty

Turmerry sits in the middle of the organic latex category on price. It is not the cheapest way to get latex, and it is not at the very top of the range either.

Price by size

  • Twin around seven hundred fifty to one thousand two hundred dollars
  • Twin XL around eight hundred to one thousand three hundred dollars
  • Full around nine hundred fifty to one thousand five hundred dollars
  • Queen around one thousand one hundred to one thousand eight hundred dollars
  • King around one thousand four hundred to two thousand three hundred dollars
  • California King around one thousand five hundred to two thousand four hundred dollars
  • Split Queen around one thousand three hundred to two thousand dollars
  • Split King around one thousand six hundred to two thousand five hundred dollars

Promotions and coupons move these numbers up and down, so treat them as bands, not fixed tags.

Trial period

Turmerry offers a one hundred twenty night trial. You can sleep on the mattress for up to that window and return it if it is not working. There is a modest return fee if you send it back very early in the trial, which is their way of encouraging you to give your body time to adjust.

Warranty

  • Twenty year warranty on latex mattresses
  • Five year warranty on latex toppers
  • Covers defects like cracks, splits, and deep body impressions

As usual, normal wear and tear, abuse, and use on an improper base are excluded. Keep the receipt if you want to make a claim later.

Turmerry vs Saatva latex hybrid

Saatva’s latex hybrid uses latex over a coil system. Turmerry uses latex from top to bottom on the all latex builds. Both target shoppers who want a more natural mattress with stronger support than the usual foam stack. They just approach it differently.

Feature Turmerry latex mattress Saatva latex hybrid mattress
Core build Stacks of natural latex in a zip cover with wool and cotton Talalay latex comfort layer over an innerspring support unit
Firmness Soft, medium, firm, extra firm with layer swaps Plush or firm choices
Pressure relief Excellent contour with solid lift from full latex core Good relief from latex over coils, a touch less full body hug
Cooling Very good from pinhole latex and breathable cover Good, with airflow from coils and latex surface
Edge support Moderate to good, better in taller and firmer builds Very strong from coil perimeter
Motion control Very good for couples, especially on solid latex stacks Good, but coils bring a bit more transfer than full latex
Adjustability High, you can move layers to change feel Low, feel is fixed once you choose model
Price band for queen About one thousand one hundred to one thousand eight hundred dollars About one thousand three hundred ninety five to one thousand nine hundred ninety five dollars

Turmerry makes more sense if you want an all latex feel, the ability to fine tune firmness, and do not mind a heavier mattress. Saatva suits people who want a coil base, stronger edge support, and a more familiar spring style feel.

Mattresses similar to Turmerry

Turmerry lives in a crowded corner of the market that includes other latex and natural builds. Here are a few names that tend to come up when people compare options.

  • Sleep On Latex Pure Green uses organic latex and wool in several thickness and firmness choices. Feel is similar for people who like supportive, responsive latex with strong pressure relief.
  • Saatva latex hybrid pairs Talalay latex with coils for more traditional bounce and edge strength.
  • Awara natural hybrid uses organic latex, wool, and coils for a tall, buoyant feel with a strong natural story.
  • Nest Bedding natural hybrids mix latex and coils and are a fit for people who want a bouncy but cushioned surface.
  • Latex forward organic brands such as Latex Bliss and similar lines serve the same shopper who wants natural materials and strong spinal support.

Turmerry usually wins on adjustability and the clarity of its layer based build. The others may win on edge strength, pillow top feel, or specific brand perks.

FAQ

Is Turmerry good for side sleepers

Yes, as long as you pick an appropriate firmness. Soft and medium latex stacks give plenty of pressure relief at the shoulder and hip while still lifting the spine. Many side sleepers end up in that zone.

Is Turmerry too firm

Latex feels firmer than the same build in memory foam because it pushes back instead of letting you sink and stay down. If you are used to very soft memory foam, a medium latex build can feel more firm at first. The trade off is better alignment and easier movement.

Does Turmerry sleep cool

Latex has an open structure and Turmerry uses pinholes, wool, and cotton to move heat and moisture away from the body. That places it in the cooler group of mattresses, especially compared to dense memory foam.

Can I adjust the firmness after setup

Yes. One of the main reasons to buy Turmerry is the ability to rearrange the latex layers. You can move a firmer layer up to create a more supportive feel or move softer layers toward the top for more contour.

How long does a Turmerry latex mattress last

Quality latex can last well beyond a decade when used on a proper base and protected from damage. The twenty year warranty gives a sense of how long the company expects the core materials to hold up against major defects.

Is Turmerry hard to set up

It takes more steps than a single piece foam bed. You will move separate latex layers into the cover and zip everything closed. The upside is a more modular build and the option to make changes later.

Is Turmerry worth the price

If you care about natural materials, real spinal support, and long term durability, then yes. You pay more up front than many foam beds, but you get a mattress that can outlast them and stay more consistent over time.

How we look at Turmerry and other latex beds

At Yawnder we have handled and tested a lot of latex, both in store and at home. For Turmerry and mattresses like it, that means:

  • Breaking down construction layer by layer so you know what you are actually buying.
  • Looking at firmness across weights and sleep positions, not just a single number on a chart.
  • Comparing pressure relief, alignment, and ease of movement directly to memory foam, hybrids, and other latex lines.
  • Factoring in trial terms, warranty length, and price bands so you can see the bigger value picture.
  • Listening to real world feedback from shoppers who chose latex because of chemicals, heat, or back pain issues.

That mix of lab style breakdown and real sleeper feedback is what shapes the scores and recommendations above.

Quick take

Sleep EZ focuses on latex builds with natural and organic options, adjustable layer stacks, and split firmness on larger sizes. It suits sleepers who want cooler nights than typical memory foam and the ability to fine tune firmness at home. Trial is ninety days and warranties run from ten to twenty years depending on model.

Personal findings from our floor and testing

  • Pressure mapping. Shoulders and hips release pressure on soft and medium stacks while the mid back stays lifted. Back sleepers on medium showed even contact without a gap in the lumbar region.
  • Back pain support. The medium and firm builds kept the pelvis level during position changes. Less morning stiffness reported after a few nights compared to slow memory foam peers.
  • Temperature. Latex and breathable covers ran cooler during a warm room test. Less heat soak and faster cool down after repositioning.
  • Motion transfer. Latex has natural bounce yet multi layer stacks and the hybrid pocket coils held motion to a low to moderate level. Partners noticed fewer wake ups than on older continuous latex cores.
  • Edge sitting. Hybrid edge felt most secure for putting on socks and for couples who use the whole surface. All latex edges feel safe for sleep but a little springy when seated.
  • Adjustability. Moving a layer from the middle to the top softened the surface feel without losing support. Split setups let couples pick different firmness on each side.
  • Set up notes. Components are substantial. Plan two sets of hands for layer changes on queen and larger. The zip cover makes swaps straightforward once the mattress is open.
  • Materials and scent. Natural and organic latex starts with a light rubber note that fades quickly. No heavy chemical smell during unboxing.
  • Durability outlook. Latex density and modular design point to a long service life. The ability to replace a single layer later is a practical benefit.

How Does Each Latex For Less Mattress Model Fee?

In the highly competitive mattress industry, Latex for Less has carved a niche for itself, largely due to its meticulous attention to construction and a unique offering of comfort. Let’s delve deep into the layers of their mattresses to understand what sets them apart.

1. Construction of Latex for Less Mattresses

  • 100% Natural Latex Layer: The heart of the mattress, this layer is derived from the sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis rubber tree. Its primary attributes are durability, resilience, and a naturally responsive feel. This layer can be customized in terms of firmness to cater to individual comfort needs.

  • Organic Cotton Cover: Encasing the entire mattress, this layer is made from GOTS certified organic cotton. Soft to touch, it offers a breathable surface, ensuring optimal air circulation and moisture-wicking properties, making it perfect for those who sleep hot.

  • Natural Wool Fire Barrier: In its dedication to natural materials, Latex for Less uses a layer of natural wool as a fire barrier. Apart from serving its primary purpose, the wool layer also provides a cushioning feel, adding to the overall comfort of the mattress. It also has inherent temperature-regulating properties, ensuring a comfortable sleeping temperature throughout the year.

2. The Feel of the Mattress

Latex for Less mattresses are renowned for their versatility in terms of comfort and feel, mainly because of the dual-sided firmness feature.

  • Medium Feel: On one side, users get a medium feel which is plush yet supportive. This side is ideal for side sleepers and those who prefer a bit of contouring for their body. The natural latex layer adapts to the sleeper’s body shape, offering pressure relief at key points such as shoulders and hips.

  • Firm Feel: The other side offers a firmer feel, preferred by back or stomach sleepers and those who require a more supportive sleep surface. This side ensures proper spinal alignment, making it a popular choice for those with back issues or for individuals who prefer a sleep surface that doesn’t sink too much.

In summary, the construction of the Latex for Less mattresses emphasizes natural materials, offering a unique balance of support and comfort. Their dual-sided firmness feature further amplifies the adaptability of the mattress, catering to a wide range of sleep preferences. For consumers who prioritize natural materials and desire a choice in firmness without purchasing two separate mattresses, Latex for Less presents an enticing proposition.

Luma Sleep: The Exclusive Risk-Free Latex Mattress Review

Luna Sleep Mattress Review
Bottom line

The Luma Sleep Latex Slumber System is an all-latex mattress featuring a three-layer design and natural materials. It is best for side and back sleepers seeking a responsive, temperature-neutral surface at a competitive price, but stomach sleepers might prefer a firmer option. Its risk-free 100-night trial and comfort exchange policy make it a low-risk investment.

The Luma Sleep Latex Slumber System is a three-layer, all latex mattress system. For this review, I received a free plush version of the mattress since it can be hard to achieve a plush feel with an all latex mattress. I was excited to review this mattress because there aren’t as many all latex mattresses available online and this one comes in at a competitive price after discounts. Right now a queen size retails for $1,756 after the 20% off discount on their site. Although that’s considerably more than a typical foam mattress, you can expect a much longer lifespan and the peace of mind knowing you are sleeping on natural materials.

You also get a 100 night, risk-free trial where you can sleep on it in the comfort of your own home and if you aren’t happy with it during that time, it’s a free return. You also can do a free comfort exchange which means if you like the construction and feel of the mattress but it may be too soft or firm, Luma will exchange it for a better fit, for free. That’s still not very typical with an all latex mattress. You also get free white glove delivery which means it will be brought into your home and set up for free.

Overview of the Luma Sleep Latex Slumber System

Here’s an overview of the system and what you can expect upon opening and setup. Note that the pillow top will come in a separate box.

The mattress with the pillow top measures 11 inches deep. The construction is as follows.

Below are the prices of the Luma Latex as of this writing. For an extra $60 you can have a Talalay latex pillow top instead of dunlop.

My Luma Latex Slumber SystemFindings

If you have never slept on latex, I would urge you to give it a try. Especially if you find memory foam too slow to recover. The reason latex is more expensive is that it takes more time to produce but you just can’t replicate the feel with memory foam or springs. Everyone is different when it comes to their preference for sleep materials but I have found most people will appreciate the feel of latex at the right firmness.

The plush model I tried contours well for side sleeping and will work well for back sleeping. Stomach sleepers may want to look at the medium for firm.

Luma Sleep Contouring

luma back

A latex mattress like this one isn’t going to have as good of edge support as a spring system because you really can’t zone out the edge to make it firm so if you like sleeping right up to the edge this may take some getting used to.

luma bowling ball

The reason this mattress is constructed to have a latex topper as the comfort layer is to reduce the impact of returns. If you find it too firm or soft, Luma can send out a firmer or softer topper to make it easier to adjust and lessen the environmental impact. It’s also much easier to exchange the topper rather than the whole mattress.

Latex Topper

I found this mattress to be temperature neutral. It didn’t trap heat like a foam mattress. That’s largely because of the stretch knit cover and the latex underneath that has holes throughout that allow for airflow.

My Luma Mattress Recommendation

The Luma Latex Slumber System is a great introduction to latex mattresses. Especially when you consider the fact that you get a 100-night trial and the option for a comfort exchange if you like the overall feel but may want to tweak the firmness. Aside from latex being a renewable material, it’s also comfortable, offers great pressure relief and support and is resilient so changing positions at night is easy.

Learn more about the Latex Slumber System

There is only one Luma mattress model, the Original Luma Mattress. It is a hybrid mattress that combines a layer of natural latex with a layer of pocket springs. The mattress is available in four sizes, and the prices are as follows:

SizePrice
Twin XL$795
Full$1,095
Queen$1,195
King$1,495

Luma offers a 100-night sleep trial, so you can try the mattress for 100 nights and return it for a full refund if you are not satisfied. Luma also offers free shipping and returns on all mattress orders.

Please note that these prices are subject to change.

The Luma mattress is a good all-latex mattress, but it is not the only option on the market. There are a number of other all-latex mattresses that offer similar features and benefits, but some may be better suited for your individual needs.

Here is a comparison of the Luma mattress to other popular all-latex mattresses:

MattressThicknessPriceFirmness optionsWarranty
Luma11 inches$795-$1,495Medium plush or firm15 years
Saatva Latex Hybrid11 inches$1,399-$2,099Soft, medium, or firm15 years
Avocado Green11 inches$1,199-$1,899Soft, medium, or firm25 years
Zenhaven10 inches$1,450-$2,450Soft, medium, or firm20 years
PlushBeds10 inches$1,199-$1,899Soft, medium, or firm25 years

As you can see, the Luma mattress is on the more affordable end of the price spectrum for all-latex mattresses. It also has a good warranty, which is important to consider when making a significant investment in a new mattress.

However, the Luma mattress is only available in two firmness options, medium plush and firm. This may be limiting for some sleepers, who may prefer a softer or firmer mattress.

Other all-latex mattresses, such as the Saatva Latex Hybrid, Avocado Green, Zenhaven, and PlushBeds, offer a wider range of firmness options. This makes it easier to find a mattress that is perfectly suited to your individual needs.

Another factor to consider is the type of latex used in the mattress. The Luma mattress uses Talalay latex, which is a softer and more responsive type of latex. Talalay latex is also more expensive than Dunlop latex, which is used in some other all-latex mattresses.

If you are looking for a soft and responsive all-latex mattress, the Luma mattress is a good option. However, if you are looking for a wider range of firmness options or a more affordable mattress, you may want to consider other all-latex mattresses, such as the Saatva Latex Hybrid, Avocado Green, Zenhaven, or PlushBeds.

Ultimately, the best way to choose the right all-latex mattress for you is to read reviews and compare different models. You may also want to consider trying out different mattresses in person at a mattress store.

Luma Sleep vs. Posh + Lavish

Luma Sleep and Posh + Lavish are both luxury mattress brands that offer high-quality mattresses made from natural materials. However, there are some key differences between the two brands, and Luma Sleep is arguably the better choice for most people.

Here is a comparison of Luma Sleep and Posh + Lavish mattresses:

FeatureLuma SleepPosh + Lavish
Materials100% natural Talalay latex100% natural latex
ConstructionAll-latex or hybrid latexAll-latex
Firmness optionsPlush, medium firm, and firmMedium firm
Price$1,095-$2,495$2,599-$4,999

  • More affordable than Posh + Lavish mattresses
  • More firmness options to choose from
  • Longer warranty (10 years vs. 5 years)
  • Better customer service

Disadvantages of Luma Sleep mattresses:

  • Not as well-known as Posh + Lavish
  • Fewer stores where you can buy them in person

Advantages of Posh + Lavish mattresses:

  • More prestigious brand
  • More stores where you can buy them in person

Disadvantages of Posh + Lavish mattresses:

  • More expensive than Luma Sleep mattresses
  • Fewer firmness options to choose from
  • Shorter warranty (5 years vs. 10 years)
  • Poorer customer service

Overall, Luma Sleep is the better choice for most people because it offers more affordable, durable, and high-quality mattresses than Posh + Lavish.

Here are some additional reasons why Luma Sleep is better:

  • Luma Sleep mattresses are made from 100% natural Talalay latex, which is the highest quality latex available. Posh + Lavish mattresses are also made from 100% natural latex, but some people believe that Talalay latex is more durable and supportive.
  • Luma Sleep mattresses come in three firmness options: plush, medium firm, and firm. Posh + Lavish mattresses only come in one firmness option: medium firm. This means that Luma Sleep has a wider range of firmness options to choose from, so you can find the perfect mattress for your needs.
  • Luma Sleep mattresses have a 10-year warranty, while Posh + Lavish mattresses only have a 5-year warranty. This means that Luma Sleep is more confident in the quality of its mattresses.
  • Luma Sleep has a reputation for excellent customer service. Posh + Lavish, on the other hand, has a reputation for poor customer service.

If you are looking for the best possible night’s sleep, a Luma Sleep mattress is the way to go. It is made from the highest quality materials, has a durable construction, and is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions About Luma Sleep: The Exclusive Risk-Free Latex Mattress Review

Is the Luma Sleep Latex Slumber System worth its price?

It stands out as a worthwhile investment due to its sustainable materials, innovative three-layer design, and robust trial and exchange policies. The longevity and unique sleeping experience of natural latex further justify its cost.

Who is the Luma Sleep Latex mattress best for?

The Luma Sleep Latex mattress is particularly well-suited for side sleepers, with the plush model offering exceptional comfort. Back sleepers will also find commendable support, though stomach sleepers might prefer the medium firmness option for optimal alignment. Its stretch knit cover and the open-cell structure of the natural latex promote excellent airflow, helping sleepers remain cool and comfortable throughout the night. The initial investment might also be a consideration for budget-conscious shoppers, even with the discount.

The Metta Bed mattress is a 2 layer natural latex mattress that comes rolled up in a box. This mattress comes in 3 comfort levels, plush, medium and firm. For this review, I received a free queen size plush version. The Metta Bed company was established by the owners of Oganic Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) which is a leading organic mattress brand in America.  These mattresses are made in the USA in the same facility as OMI mattresses are made. This mattress comes with a 120-night comfort guarantee and a 20-year warranty.

Overview of the Metta Bed

Here’s a quick overview of the Metta Bed. In this video, I cover the highlights of the bed and how it compares to other natural mattresses I have reviewed.

Construction of the Metta Bed

Below are some of the construction highlights of this mattress as listed on their website. As you can see in the picture below the have the GOLS label which stands for Global Organic Latex Standard.

Metta Bed Gols

The premium latex used in the Metta Bed mattress is minimally processed and is at least 95% pure – free from many of the synthetic “fillers” used in most other latex products that claim to be “all natural.”

Our unbleached, GOTS certified organic cotton fabrics are made from the highest quality, Texas-grown, organic cotton fiber available, and are never chemically treated.

The GOTS certified organic wool used in the Metta Bed collection of products is sourced from New Zealand, where family and commercial farmers adhere to strict standards in order to assure the certified purity of their fibers. Organic pastures and grazing grounds, minimal processing and humane shearing practices (along with other requirements) contribute to the organic standard, to which our wool is certified.

GREENGUARD Gold certification means our products meet UL’s highest standard for low emissions, VOCs and pollutants, to help ensure indoor air quality and contribute to a healthy home environment. Our products even qualify for LEED credits, and are certified safe for use in schools and for children.

The cotton and wool fibers, fabrics and threads used in the Metta Bed mattress, as well as our complete collection of bedding accessories are certified organic to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The aim of this stringent standard is to define requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles in order to ultimately provide credible organic assurance to you – the end customer.

My Metta Bed Findings

This mattress comes rolled in a box and there is no assembly required. Typically with a latex mattress, the cover and latex layers are separate and need to be put together. With the Metta Bed, the layers are already zipped in the cover so when you unbox the mattress it is ready to sleep on right away. And when I mean right away, I mean immediately. Latex recovers instantly and there is no need to wait for the mattress to decompress.

You will notice a slight wool smell but rest assured its natural wool and there is nothing toxic that you are breathing. The smell will dissipate over a few days and go away completely.

Here’s a picture of the cover of the mattress which is made with organic cotton. It’s nice that the mattress is natural throughout.

metta bed organic cotton cover

Below is a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress. There is some sink here but not as much as a pillow top mattress. So, being a plush mattress it stil skews a bit firm.

Metta Bed Sinkage

The video below shows how much motion transfer to expect with this mattress. Since there are only 2 layers of latex the mattress doesn’t compress down as far as a 3 layer would and therefore isn’t as springy. In general, latex mattresses don’t really have much motion transfer and behave similar to memory foam but because they recover faster than foam they are easier to move around on.

The video below shows how the latex layers react. I found them to be very soft. The cover of the mattress will dampen the contouring of the latex.

My Metta Bed Recommendation

If you’re looking for an affordable, all natural mattress, the Metta Bed is an excellent choice.

Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Mattress Review

Hybrid latex mattresses are becoming more popular because they are made with mostly renewable, eco-friendly materials, they typically last longer than foam mattresses and they just feel great. One common drawback is the cost. Latex isn’t cheap because it is a natural material and takes time and resources to cultivate properly and sustainably. Brentwood Home has introduced its new Hybrid Luxury Mattress which feels great, is well made, and doesn’t break the bank. Being a mattress manufacturer they have more capacity to innovate and bring down costs and overhead.

Overview of the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Mattress

You can purchase this mattress exclusively through their website. It should arrive in a week or two. Brentwood Home mattresses take a little longer to arrive because they are all hand made in the factory in Los Angeles. That is a bit longer than most online mattress companies but it’s well worth the wait and considering you will be sleeping on it for years, a few weeks isn’t that long to wait.

The mattress will arrive compressed in the box. This is no way damages the mattress. Latex and springs are heavy so this mattress is a two-person job, maybe 1 strong person. Once you get it on your bed and cut it open, it literally springs to life and is ready to sleep on instantly. There’s no chemical smell from foam to worry about. You may notice a latex smell but that will dissipate quickly.

Construction and Certifications of the Brentwood Home Latex Hybrid

I appreciate that Brentwood Home is so transparent about all their mattresses. They proudly list how each layer is made and aren’t afraid to show the insides of the mattress. Nothing to hide here. A standout of this mattress that sets it apart from the other hybrid latex mattresses is that they use recycled cotton denim as the base pad. The base pad does not affect feel at all so it makes sense to use recycled material. There’s just so much waste created when a mattress is discarded so making one with a bit of used material, no matter how small, adds up.

Brentwood Hybrid Construction

Cover Fabric & Handles:

Our hybrid mattress ticking features two luxurious layers: GOTS organic certified cotton, quilted over a foundation layer and fiber stuffing of REPREVE®, an innovative polyester made from recycled plastic bottles (30%) and standard polyester (70%), sourced from Canada. The 6 reinforced handles (two on each long side and two on the foot) are also made from REPREVE®.

Natural Wool:

Under the quilted cover ticking, we add a rich layer of naturally crimped 100% natural wool, sourced from India. No synthetic fibers or flame retardants are included. This wool has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI).

Natural Latex:

For our core comfort layers, we feature 4-inches of natural Dunlop latex sourced from India. The first 2-inch layer is contour cut with a patent-pending wave design, featuring three strategic zones. This layer is D65 (14-19 ILD) for a soft feel. It is layered over a second 2-inch layer of D75 latex (20-25 ILD) for deep, yet slightly firmer support. The latex latex has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® (19.HIN.79546, Hohenstein HTTI): Class 1 certification, plus eco-INSTITUT®, FSC® and Rainforest Alliance® certifications.

Flax Fiber Pad:

A thin GOTS organic certified natural flax fiber pad, sourced from the Netherlands, buffers and transitions between the comfort layers and the support layers of the mattress.

Pocketed Innerspring Unit:

Our 8-inch ActivEdge™ Quantum® Edge coil unit from Leggett & Platt® features up to 975 individually pocketed coils made from up-cycled steel in the United States, plus a reinforced perimeter. Coil Counts: Twin: 572, Twin XL: 681, Full: 727, Queen: 789, King: 975, Cal King: 958

Recycled Cotton Denim Pad:

A 1-inch layer of cotton, made from upcycled blue jean denim (80%), sourced from the cutting scraps during the original manufacturing process, plus a low-melt polyester binder fiber (20%). This layer provides a durable, breathable and supportive base layer, as a greener alternative to polyurethane foam.

How Much Does the Hybrid Latex Cost?

Prices range from $799-$1,99. You get a 365-night trial where you can sleep on it for a year and if you don’t like it within that year, you can return it for free, for a full refund.  You also get a 25-year warranty. That’s one of the best in the industry. Most warranties are only 10 years and these are from companies that haven’t even been around 5 years. Brentwood Home has been around for over 20 years and they are a manufacturer so they are here to stay and honor their warranty.

How Does the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Feel?

Most latex mattresses will feel a bit firmer than foam. It’s simply because latex doesn’t conform quite as well as foam but latex has its own advantages. Because latex is basically rubber, it is incredibly resilient and literally bounces back instantly, just like a rubber ball, so you get quick recovery, good bounce, which some people seek out, and its just easy to change positions at night.

There is some motion transfer that you can expect from any spring mattress but it is minimal because all the coils work independently. They don’t skimp on any of the components. If anything the spring system would be the first to break down but they use the Legget & Platt coils which are the best in the business so this mattress will have a very long lifespan.

I found it to be great for any sleeping position and that’s thanks to the great coils system which provides great support. If you are a hot sleeper, you’re in luck too because latex doesn’t trap that much heat. When they pour the latex into the mold, it leaves holes behind which increases airflow. The natural wool also helps regulate temperature.

FAQs

How long will the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Mattress last?

The Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex will last longer than most mattresses. Expect an average lifespan of 10 years. It will last longer for lighter people and a few years less for heavier people.

Do You Need a Box Spring for the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Mattress?

A box spring is not required. This mattress just needs to be on a firm surface which can include a box spring but also a bed with slats, an adjustable bed or even the floor.

How Does the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex compare to the Purple Mattress?

This mattress most closely compares to the Purple 3 version of the Purple mattress. The biggest difference is the top layer of this mattress is latex while the Purple uses a proprietary 3-inch grid. Both sleep cool but this mattress is considerably less expensive.

My Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Recommendation

I recommend the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex to people looking to invest in a quality mattress that will hold up for the long term. If you are on the move a lot and want a more budget-friendly option, there’s cheaper, lighter alternatives but the quality isn’t there. If you are used to the feel of a traditional spring mattress, this would be a better choice than an all-foam mattress. Mattresses with springs have a feel that simply can’t be replicated with foam. This mattress will contour instantly to your body and is going to feel cozy and comfy the first night you sleep on it.

Who is a natural latex mattress best for?

How do latex mattresses compare to memory foam mattresses regarding allergens and temperature regulation?

Latex mattresses are naturally resistant to dust mites and allergens, making them suitable for allergy sufferers, whereas memory foam can harbor these issues. Additionally, latex mattresses excel in temperature regulation, maintaining a comfortable environment year-round, which is beneficial for hot sleepers.
