This firm, bouncy mattress is made entirely of latex. It stops motion from traveling and uses sustainable materials.

Quick take

  • Best for sleepers who want a firm feel and "on top" support.
  • Great for couples who do not want to feel their partner move.
  • A top pick for heavier sleepers who need a durable bed.
  • This mattress is very heavy. Plan your delivery carefully.

Avocado is a top brand for natural mattresses. The original Avocado mattress is a hybrid. It uses both coils and latex. You can add a pillow top if you want a softer feel.

Their newer all latex mattress is very eco-friendly. It has almost no motion transfer. Every part uses natural materials. These materials are biodegradable and responsibly sourced.

Choosing between the hybrid and the all-latex model? The main difference is the feel. The hybrid has more bounce from the coils. The latex model is quieter and stays more still.

Ordering Your Avocado Latex Mattress

You can only buy this mattress on the Avocado website. Most orders arrive in 7 to 10 days. They make each bed to order. This is why it takes longer than a standard foam bed.

This is a very heavy mattress. A queen size weighs nearly 150 pounds. Standard delivery is an option. However, I suggest paying for in-home setup because of the weight.

Here is a tip: do not open the box until it is in your bedroom. An all latex mattress is hard to handle once it is out of the box. It is difficult to move through small spaces.

This photo shows the mattress right after unboxing. You can sleep on it right away. Latex does not need time to grow like foam does. It also does not smell like chemicals. You might notice a natural scent, but it is safe and fades fast.

Construction of the Avocado Latex Mattress

Here is a look at the inside of the mattress. These specs come from the Avocado website.

100% GOLS Organic Certified Latex

  • Avocado uses Dunlop latex. It is more eco-friendly than Talalay latex. They make their own organic latex in India. This latex is antimicrobial and stays cooler than memory foam.
  • The mattress has three layers of organic latex. The top is 2 inches of soft latex (D65). The middle is 3 inches (D75). The base is 4 inches (D85). They use no chemical glues.
  • The mattress has many safety labels. These include OEKO-TEX Class 1 and eco-INSTITUT. These prove the bed is free from harmful chemicals.

If you want a pure latex build without chemical adhesives, Avocado is one of the few brands that leans hard into tufting.

100% GOTS Organic Certified Wool

  • Wool keeps you dry and regulates your temperature. It also acts as a natural fire barrier. Avocado uses organic wool instead of polyester or chemical fire sprays.
  • The wool is OEKO-TEX Class 1 certified. This means it is tested for harmful substances.

100% GOTS Organic Cotton

  • The cover is made of organic cotton. It contains no polyester. Workers tuft the layers by hand with cotton yarn to hold them together without glue.
  • Even the thread used for sewing is certified safe. The cover includes strong handles and reinforced seams.

My Avocado Latex Mattress Findings

This is the firmest bed Avocado sells. Latex is bouncy, but it does not hug your body like memory foam. You will feel like you are resting on top of the mattress.

The tufting makes the bed feel a bit firmer. This technique holds the layers together without using glue. It keeps the surface even for many years. You can see the tufted spots, but you won't feel them when you lie down.

Motion does not travel across this bed. This is because it has no springs. The tufting also helps stop movement. This makes it a great choice for couples.

Latex stays at a neutral temperature. Small holes in the latex help it breathe. The wool layer also helps manage heat and moisture.

If you are shopping for a firm latex mattress with extremely low motion transfer, this is the one I would start with.

My Avocado Latex Mattress Recommendation

Many latex beds look the same on paper. Avocado is different because they use needle tufting. This gives the bed a unique feel and helps it last longer. It also means they don't need chemical glues.

This is a great choice if you want a firm bed that stays still. It is also perfect for heavier sleepers. Latex is one of the most durable materials you can buy.

The price is higher because the materials are high quality. However, it is still a good value for an all-latex bed. You get a one-year trial to decide if you like it.
