Overview of the Brooklinen Down Alternative Pillow

Brooklinen seeks to bring a sense of luxury to your life, or to be more specific, your bed. They’ve gained some popularity and after having a chance to try their pillows, I can see why. In addition to down pillows, they also sell down alternative pillows. They come in three different firmness levels and beautifully mimic down alternative pillows but what impresses me most is not what you would expect.

brooklinen down alternative pillows unboxing

What impresses me most about their brand is not only the product but their lifetime warranty. A lot of companies of this type won’t offer a warranty so that’s the first thing but to then offer a lifetime warranty is a big deal. So Brooklinen, as awesome as your pillows are, it’s the warranty that blows my mind a little more than the pillows do.

Their return period is pretty great too. It’s certainly long enough for you to decide if these pillows are worth your time or not. You actually have one entire year, 365 days, to come to a decision. In this industry, it’s (incredibly) difficult to beat that.

The prices for a down alternative pillow from Brooklinen range from $59 to $79, depending on the size.

Construction of The Brooklinen Down Alternative Pillow

Brooklinen’s Down Alternative pillows are created with synthetic fibers that have been designed to mimic the warmth and texture of natural goose down. This makes them better suited to individuals with allergies.

  • Down Alternative Pillow Standard (20″ × 26″)
  • Down Alternative Pillow King  (20″ × 36″)
  • 400-Thread Pure Long-Staple Cotton Cover
  • 100% Shaved Microfibers
  • Antimicrobial
  • Hypoallergenic

My Brooklinen Down Alternative Pillow Findings

My experience with the pillows from Brooklinen was positive overall. I enjoyed the unboxing experience and how straight forward it was. Each pillow having its own encasing was pleasing to see. The way everything was compartmentalized, in my eyes, shows attention to detail and it just felt clean and orderly. Clean freaks (such as myself) love that stuff. Companies should always consider their unboxing experiences. How a person reacts to a package is part of how they’ll react to the product that’s inside it.

brooklinen down alternative pillows packaging

The pillows themselves are wonderful, soft and oh, so comforting. I love down pillows and making good imitations of them is no easy task and these down alternative pillows by Brooklinen are well done. The density of each pillow, from the plush/soft to the medium-firm, and from the medium-firm to the firm, all seemed appropriate. I’m a side sleeper, so there was no way I was going to fall asleep on the softest pillow with the least filling; my neck would have never forgiven me but the moment my head hit the medium-firm pillow, I was sure ready for a nice, long nap. Described as luxury level, their crisp white color confirms that they are cooler than cool but what’s more? How luxurious are they? I’ve inspected hotel pillows in the past; I used to work at one. These pillows are just as good.

brooklinen down alternative pillows side by side comparison

In an industry saturated with custom pillows, regular pillows suddenly seem revolutionary but there’s something to be said for just keeping it simple. Not everyone has time to travel from one zipper to another. Some can never figure out just how they like their pillows; they want the manufacturer to decide for them. There’s freedom in being able to just grab a pillow and get our butts to bed, especially when there is zero thought required.

A customizable product is one that is still incomplete when it arrives at the customer’s door. The responsibility is then handed off to the consumer, who needs to add the finishing touches. Standard products like this, that are sold as they are, on the other hand, have zero deficiencies. We perceive them as being “whole” or “complete,” and therefore ready to use and that’s because they are.

Here are some additional factors to consider when choosing a down alternative pillow:

  • Fill material: Down alternative pillows can be filled with a variety of materials, including synthetic fibers, feathers, and buckwheat hulls. The type of filling material will affect the feel and weight of the pillow.
  • Firmness: Down alternative pillows come in a variety of firmness levels, from soft to firm. Choose a firmness level that will support your head and neck in a comfortable position.
  • Size: Down alternative pillows come in a variety of sizes, including standard, queen, and king. Choose a size that will fit your pillowcase and bed.
  • Price: Down alternative pillows can range in price from $50 to $200. Set a budget before you start shopping and choose a pillow that fits your needs and budget.

Benefits of Down Alternative Pillows vs. Down Pillows

Down and down-alternative pillows have jockeyed for position as top contenders for the preferred choice of discerning sleepers worldwide. While traditional down, sourced from the soft under-feathers of ducks and geese, has long been heralded for its luxurious softness and adaptability, down-alternative materials have risen in prominence, offering a host of benefits that sometimes outpace their natural counterpart. Here’s a deep dive into the advantages of down alternative over traditional down pillows:

1. Allergy-Friendly: Perhaps the most significant edge down alternatives have over natural down is their hypoallergenic properties. Many people are allergic to the dust, mites, or proteins found in natural down, causing symptoms such as sneezing, watery eyes, or even more severe allergic reactions. Down alternative pillows, typically made from synthetic materials like polyester, eliminate this concern, providing a safe sleeping environment for allergy sufferers.

2. Cruelty-Free: Ethical considerations come into play for many consumers. Down harvesting, even when labeled as “ethically sourced,” often raises concerns about the welfare of the birds involved. Down alternative pillows, being man-made, offer a cruelty-free choice for the conscientious buyer.

3. Cost-Effective: Pure down pillows tend to be pricier due to the process of collecting and cleaning the feathers. Down alternatives, on the other hand, are generally more affordable without compromising much on comfort.

4. Durability: The synthetic fibers used in down alternative pillows are designed for resilience. They can maintain their shape and structure for longer periods, reducing the frequency of replacements. Additionally, these pillows are less likely to develop lumps or lose their fluffiness over time, ensuring consistent comfort.

5. Moisture Resistance: Down can absorb and retain moisture, which may lead to the growth of mold or mildew if not dried properly. Down alternative materials are less prone to moisture retention, resulting in a dryer, fresher sleeping experience.

6. Ease of Care: While down pillows often require specialized care, including professional cleaning or specific washing instructions, down alternative pillows are usually machine washable and dryer-friendly. This ease of care is a boon for those leading busy lives or for settings such as hotels and guest rooms.

7. Uniformity: Down pillows can sometimes have quills that poke through the pillowcase, causing discomfort. Down alternatives don’t present this issue, ensuring a consistently smooth feel.

In conclusion, while the age-old debate between down and down alternative pillows may never see a definitive winner, the advantages of down alternative pillows are hard to dispute. They present a compelling case for those seeking a combination of comfort, durability, ethics, and affordability. As technology advances and manufacturing processes become more refined, we can only expect the gap between natural and synthetic bedding to narrow, with down alternatives potentially taking the lead in the luxury bedding market.

Zoned Coils: The Superior Choice for Effortless Comfort

Zoned Coils

The newest mattress coil technology is constantly evolving, but some of the most notable recent developments include:

  • V-Coil technology: V-Coil technology is a patented coil design that features V-shaped coils arranged in a staggered pattern. This design allows the coils to conform to the body more effectively and provide better pressure relief. V-Coil mattresses are also known for their durability and longevity.
  • Quantum coil technology: Quantum coil technology is another patented coil design that uses smaller, more densely packed coils to provide more precise support and pressure relief. Quantum coil mattresses are also known for their responsiveness and bounce.
  • Microcoil technology: Microcoils are much smaller than traditional pocket coils, and they are often used in conjunction with other types of foam to create a more responsive and supportive mattress. Microcoils are also very good at relieving pressure points.
  • Zoned coil systems: Zoned coil systems use different types of coils in different areas of the mattress to provide different levels of support. For example, the center of the mattress may have firmer coils to support the lumbar region, while the sides of the mattress may have softer coils to provide pressure relief for the shoulders and hips.

In addition to these new coil technologies, there are also a number of new hybrid coil systems that combine different types of coils to create a unique feel and performance. For example, some hybrid coil systems combine pocket coils with continuous coils to create a mattress that is both supportive and durable.

When choosing a mattress, it is important to consider the type of coil system that is right for you. If you are looking for a mattress with excellent support and pressure relief, a mattress with V-Coil technology, Quantum coil technology, or microcoils may be a good option. If you are looking for a mattress with more bounce and responsiveness, a mattress with a hybrid coil system may be a better choice.

There are four main types of coil systems used in mattresses:

  • Bonnell coils: Bonnell coils are the oldest type of coil system, and they are also the least expensive. They are made of interconnected hourglass-shaped coils. Bonnell coils are known for their durability and bounce, but they do not offer as much support or pressure relief as other types of coil systems.
  • Offset coils: Offset coils are similar to Bonnell coils, but they are offset in a staggered pattern. This gives offset coils more flexibility and less bounce than Bonnell coils. Offset coils are also more supportive than Bonnell coils, but they are still not as supportive as other types of coil systems.
  • Pocket coils: Pocket coils are individually wrapped in fabric pockets. This allows each coil to move independently, providing better support and pressure relief than Bonnell or offset coils. Pocket coil mattresses are also more durable than Bonnell or offset coil mattresses, but they are also more expensive.
  • Continuous coils: Continuous coils are made of a single piece of wire that is wound into a spiral shape. Continuous coil mattresses are less expensive than pocket coil mattresses, but they do not offer as much support or pressure relief. Continuous coil mattresses are also more likely to sag over time.

In addition to these four main types of coil systems, there are also a number of hybrid coil systems that combine different types of coils to create a unique feel and performance. For example, some hybrid coil systems combine pocket coils with continuous coils to create a mattress that is both supportive and durable.

When choosing a mattress, it is important to consider the type of coil system that is right for you. If you are looking for a mattress that is affordable and durable, a Bonnell or offset coil mattress may be a good option. If you are looking for a mattress that is supportive and provides good pressure relief, a pocket coil or hybrid coil mattress may be a better choice.

It is also important to note that the number of coils in a mattress is not always an accurate indicator of quality. A mattress with a high coil count may not be as supportive or durable as a mattress with a lower coil count. It is more important to consider the type of coils used and the overall construction of the mattress.

Coils

A Combi-Zone coil system mattress is a type of innerspring mattress that uses three different zones of coils to provide different levels of support for different parts of the body. The center third of the mattress has firmer coils to support the lumbar region, while the sides of the mattress have softer coils to provide pressure relief for the shoulders and hips.

Combi-Zone coil systems are designed to provide optimal support and comfort for all types of sleepers, regardless of weight or sleeping position. They are also known for their durability and longevity.

Here are some of the benefits of Combi-Zone coil system mattresses:

  • Support and comfort: The three zones of coils provide different levels of support for different parts of the body, helping to keep the spine aligned and relieve pressure points.
  • Durability: Combi-Zone coil systems are made with high-quality materials and construction, so they can withstand years of use.
  • Breathability: Innerspring mattresses are generally more breathable than other types of mattresses, which can help to keep you cool and comfortable at night.
  • Edge support: Combi-Zone coil systems typically have a strong perimeter support system, which helps to prevent sagging and roll-off at the edges of the mattress.

If you are looking for a mattress that provides excellent support, comfort, and durability, a Combi-Zone coil system mattress is a great option to consider.

Zoned Coil Alternatives

Here are some alternatives to Combi-Zone coil systems:

  • Individually wrapped coils (pocket coils): Pocket coils are individually wrapped in fabric pockets, which allows them to move independently and provide better support and pressure relief than other types of coil systems. Pocket coil mattresses are also more durable than other types of coil mattresses.
  • Microcoils: Microcoils are much smaller than traditional pocket coils, and they are often used in conjunction with other types of foam to create a more responsive and supportive mattress.
  • Latex foam: Latex foam is a natural material that is known for its durability, support, and pressure relief. Latex foam mattresses are often more expensive than other types of mattresses, but they can last for many years.
  • Memory foam: Memory foam is a synthetic material that is known for its ability to conform to the body. Memory foam mattresses are often very comfortable, but they can also be very hot and restricting.

The best alternative to Combi-Zone coil systems for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you are looking for a mattress that is supportive and provides good pressure relief, an individually wrapped coil mattress or a zoned coil mattress may be a good option. If you are looking for a mattress that is natural and durable, a latex foam mattress may be a good choice. And if you are looking for a mattress that is comfortable and conforms to the body, a memory foam mattress may be a good option.

Zoned Coils vs. Bonnel Coils

Zoned coil systems and Bonnell coils are two different types of coil systems used in mattresses.

Zoned coil systems use different types of coils in different areas of the mattress to provide different levels of support. For example, the center of the mattress may have firmer coils to support the lumbar region, while the sides of the mattress may have softer coils to provide pressure relief for the shoulders and hips.

Bonnell coils are the oldest type of coil system, and they are also the least expensive. They are made of interconnected hourglass-shaped coils. Bonnell coils are known for their durability and bounce, but they do not offer as much support or pressure relief as zoned coil systems.

Here is a table comparing zoned coil systems and Bonnell coils:

FeatureZoned coil systemsBonnell coils
SupportExcellentGood
Pressure reliefExcellentGood
DurabilityVery goodVery good
PriceMore expensiveLess expensive

Overall, zoned coil systems are a better choice than Bonnell coils for sleepers who are looking for a mattress with excellent support and pressure relief. However, Bonnell coils are a good option for sleepers who are looking for a more affordable mattress.

Which type of coil system is right for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you are not sure which type of coil system is right for you, it is a good idea to try out different types of mattresses before you buy one.

Unpacking the Unique Features of Helix Sunset Mattress

As we delve deeper into the specifics of the Helix Sunset Mattress, there are two standout features that deserve our attention: the customizable firmness and the cooling properties. Let’s explore these further.

Customizable Firmness

One of the most attractive features of the Helix Sunset Mattress is its adjustable firmness. But what does this mean exactly? And how does it benefit users?

Well, the firmness of a mattress can greatly affect our sleep quality. Some of us prefer a soft, plush mattress that we can sink into, while others need a firmer surface for support. The Helix Sunset Mattress caters to these varying preferences by allowing users to adjust the firmness to their liking. This makes it a versatile choice for a wide range of sleepers.

Breathability and Cooling Properties

Another unique feature of the Helix Sunset Mattress is its breathability and cooling properties. Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night feeling hot and sweaty? With this mattress, that’s a thing of the past.

The secret lies in the materials used. The mattress features a special layer of breathable foam that promotes airflow, preventing heat from being trapped. Moreover, the cover is made from a soft-touch design that feels cool to the touch. These features work together to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Pricing and Value

Now, let’s talk about the price. After all, a mattress is a significant investment, and we all want to ensure we’re getting good value for our money.

The price of the Helix Sunset Mattress varies depending on the size you choose. Compared to other similar products on the market, it falls within the mid-range price bracket. But considering the unique features it offers, such as customizable firmness and cooling properties, it provides excellent value for the price.

Ultimately, the value of a mattress cannot be determined by price alone. It’s about how well it meets your specific needs and improves your sleep quality. And the Helix Sunset Mattress, with its unique features and positive user feedback, seems to tick all the right boxes.

User Experience with Helix Sunset Mattress

When it comes to user experiences with the Helix Sunset Mattress, feedback has been largely positive. Customers commonly praise the mattress for its comfort, quality, and value for money. The customizable firmness feature is often highlighted as a significant advantage, allowing users to adjust the mattress to their preferred comfort level. However, as with any product, there have been a few complaints. Some users find the mattress too soft, even on the firmest setting. Others have noted that the mattress may take some time to fully expand after unboxing.

Who is the Helix Sunset Mattress Best For?

Given its features, the Helix Sunset Mattress is a great choice for a variety of sleepers. The adjustable firmness makes it suitable for both people who prefer a softer mattress and those who need more support. It’s particularly recommended for side and back sleepers, as the mattress offers excellent pressure relief in these positions. The breathability and cooling properties make it an ideal choice for those who tend to sleep hot. However, heavier individuals or those who prefer a very firm mattress may want to consider other options.

The Potential Downsides of the Helix Sunset Mattress

While the Helix Sunset Mattress has many appealing attributes, it’s important to consider some of the potential drawbacks reported by users. Not every product is a perfect fit for everyone, and this mattress is no exception.

Some users have reported that the mattress is too soft for their liking, especially those who prefer a firm sleeping surface. The softness of the mattress can also be a problem for heavier individuals who may require more support. Additionally, while the mattress does have cooling properties, some users have reported that it doesn’t dissipate heat as effectively as they would like.

Final Thoughts

After considering all aspects of the Helix Sunset Mattress, we’ve compiled a few key takeaways:

Here is a summary of the pros and cons of the Helix Sunset mattress:

Pros:

  • Soft and comfortable feel
  • Good pressure relief
  • Temperature regulation
  • Motion isolation

Cons:

  • May be too soft for some people, especially back and stomach sleepers
  • May not be supportive enough for heavier people

So, should you invest in a Helix Sunset Mattress? That depends on your personal needs and preferences. It’s a strong contender in the mattress market, offering features that cater to a variety of sleepers. However, it may not be the best choice for those seeking a very firm mattress or those who are heavier in weight.

Casper Mattress: Exclusive Guide to the Best Buys

casper mattress

Since its inception, Casper has been heralded as one of the trailblazers in the direct-to-consumer mattress industry, garnering a reputation for offering products that blend quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Let’s delve deep into each of their mattress models to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of what they’re getting.

  1. The Casper Original:

    • Construction: It features a four-layer foam design, including a breathable open-cell foam on top, followed by zoned support foam that offers more support for hips and shoulders, and finally a durable base foam.

    • Feel: Medium-firm. This makes it suitable for a wide range of sleepers, particularly back and combo sleepers.

    • Highlight: Its balanced feel. The mattress provides enough contouring for pressure relief while also offering a decent amount of support.

    • Limitation: Heavier side sleepers may feel a lack of adequate pressure relief.

  2. The Casper Wave Hybrid:

    • Construction: This premium option boasts five layers, featuring a combo of foams and supportive coils. It comes with a velvety soft top, followed by cooling gel, zoned foam for targeted support, and a layer of springs.

    • Feel: Medium, leaning towards a plush feel. This makes it an optimal choice for side sleepers or those seeking a more luxurious sleep experience.

    • Highlight: Superior spinal alignment, thanks to its zoned support. Plus, the gel pods provide exceptional cooling.

    • Limitation: Price. It’s one of the more expensive options in the Casper lineup.

  3. The Casper Element:

    • Construction: Simplified with only two layers – a breathable top foam and a durable base foam.

    • Feel: Medium-firm. This makes it preferable for back and stomach sleepers.

    • Highlight: Budget-friendly. It’s an entry-level mattress that provides decent comfort for its price.

    • Limitation: Lacks the sophisticated features and materials present in the higher-tier Casper mattresses.

  4. The Casper Nova Hybrid:

    • Construction: It integrates four layers, combining plush foam with springs for a hybrid design. The top layer is ultra-plush, followed by two layers of zoned support foam and a base of springs.

    • Feel: Plush, with a very soft top layer, making it ideal for side sleepers or those who want a plush feel.

    • Highlight: Best pressure relief among all Casper models.

    • Limitation: Might be too soft for stomach sleepers or those who prefer a firm surface.

  5. The Casper Hybrid:

    • Construction: An evolution of the Casper Original, it integrates foam with springs, resulting in a three-layer design.

    • Feel: Medium-firm, offering a balanced feel just like its all-foam counterpart.

    • Highlight: Improved edge support and cooling, thanks to the coil layer.

    • Limitation: Price is slightly higher compared to the Original, though justified by the hybrid design.

Conclusion: Casper’s array of mattresses offers an impressive spread of options tailored for different sleep preferences and budgets. Whether you’re seeking an affordable entry-point, a balanced sleep, or luxury plushness, Casper has a mattress that will cater to your needs. The company’s commitment to innovation and quality remains consistent, making them a formidable name in the mattress world.

The Casper Original Mattress

casper mattress

At the forefront of the direct-to-consumer mattress revolution stands the Casper Original, a product that has seamlessly blended contemporary foam technology with consumer-centric design.

Construction & Layers: The Casper Original boasts a meticulously crafted four-layer foam design. The top layer is an open-cell foam, designed not only to provide immediate comfort and contouring but also to facilitate airflow, ensuring a cooler night’s sleep. Beneath this lies a layer of memory foam, offering pressure relief by adeptly molding to the sleeper’s body shape.

The third layer is where Casper’s trademarked Zoned Support™ comes into play. This adaptive transition foam is firmer under the hips, waist, and lower back, ensuring alignment, while being softer under the shoulders to alleviate pressure—a nod to the company’s dedication to ergonomics. Concluding the layering is a dense base foam, imparting durability and structural integrity to the mattress.

Feel & Firmness: Classified as medium-firm, the Casper Original hits that sweet spot, making it universally appealing to a wide demographic. While back and combination sleepers will relish the support and slight bounce, side sleepers will appreciate the contouring characteristics, though heavier individuals might seek a touch more plushness.

Performance & Highlights: Temperature neutrality stands out as one of the Casper Original’s stellar features. Thanks to its open-cell foam, sleepers can bid adieu to the dreaded ‘hot bed’ syndrome. Additionally, the mattress does a commendable job of motion isolation, a boon for partners with differing sleep schedules.

Limitations: While the Casper Original is a jack-of-all-trades, it doesn’t specialize in any particular arena. Heavier side sleepers might find it lacking in terms of deep pressure relief. Additionally, those seeking either a very firm or ultra-plush feel might need to explore other models.

Casper Original Hybrid

A sleek, modern bedroom features a queen-size bed with a minimalist gray upholstered headboard and a neatly made bed. The mattress, highly praised in many Casper mattress reviews, offers supreme comfort. Two matching bedside tables hold small decorative items and are lit by stylish hanging pendant lamps. The overall decor exudes a contemporary vibe.

Casper’s dedication to pushing the envelope in sleep technology culminates in the Casper Original Hybrid. It is a manifestation of the brand’s commitment to combining the best of both traditional and modern mattress worlds.

Construction & Layers: The Casper Original Hybrid is a strategic amalgamation of foam and springs. The mattress starts with the signature open-cell foam on top, renowned for its breathability and instant comfort. Below, a layer of memory foam offers adaptive pressure relief, molding deftly to the individual contours of the sleeper’s body.

The transition layer presents the brand’s proprietary Zoned Support™: a foam designed with variances in firmness to cater to different areas of the body. It’s firmer under the core regions like the hips and waist and gentler under the shoulders.

The pièce de résistance is the base layer: a collection of individually-wrapped springs that provide bounce, enhanced edge support, and further airflow. Additionally, a perimeter of denser foam surrounds these coils, ensuring robust edge support and enhancing the mattress’s overall longevity.

Feel & Firmness: Positioned as a medium-firm mattress, the Casper Original Hybrid offers a balanced feel, making it attractive to a diverse range of sleepers. The springs introduce a responsive bounce, making movement on the mattress effortless. Simultaneously, the foam layers ensure contouring and pressure relief, especially vital for side and back sleepers.

Performance & Highlights: One of the standout traits of the Original Hybrid is its improved cooling capabilities. The coil layer facilitates better airflow compared to its all-foam counterparts, ensuring a fresher sleeping environment. Furthermore, the springs bolster the mattress’s motion isolation properties, making disturbances from partner movements minimal.

Limitations: Though the Original Hybrid offers a plethora of benefits, it might not cater to everyone. Ultra-plush lovers and those desiring a rock-hard feel might need to look elsewhere. Also, its price point is slightly elevated when juxtaposed with the all-foam Original, a factor budget-conscious shoppers might weigh.

Conclusion: The Casper Original Hybrid is not merely a product; it’s an experience, marrying the resilience of springs with the comfort of foam. It stands as an emblem of Casper’s innovative spirit, catering to consumers who yearn for a balanced sleep solution. If ever there was a testament to hybrid mattress craftsmanship, this would be it.

The Casper Nova Hybrid

nova hybrid

In the modern bed-in-a-box era, Casper’s commitment to advancing the mattress landscape is undeniable. With the Nova Hybrid, Casper ventures further into the realms of luxury and precision, crafting a sleep surface that tantalizingly balances softness with support.

Construction & Layers: Bearing the essence of Casper’s inventive spirit, the Nova Hybrid is designed with four distinct layers, each meticulously curated to offer optimal sleep.

The top layer, a plush foam, grants sleepers an immediate embrace, hinting at the luxury that lies beneath. Next, the mattress showcases two separate zones of support foam. This isn’t just foam; it’s strategic engineering. Casper has recognized the body’s unique requirements, ensuring that areas like the hips receive firmer support while softer zones cradle the shoulders.

The foundation of the Nova Hybrid is its spring layer, composed of individually-wrapped coils. These coils not only provide the mattress with a subtle bounce but also aid in improving airflow and enhancing edge support. Surrounding these springs is a denser foam, fortifying the edges and ensuring consistency across the mattress.

Feel & Firmness: Classified as plush, the Nova Hybrid veers towards the softer side of the firmness spectrum. However, don’t mistake its softness for lack of support. The zoned layers ensure that, while the sleeper feels a soft embrace, their body remains aligned and supported throughout the night.

Performance & Highlights: The Nova Hybrid particularly shines in temperature regulation. The combination of breathable foam layers and a coil system promotes consistent airflow, banishing overheated nights to the past. The mattress also boasts impressive motion isolation properties, thanks to the interplay between its foam layers and individually pocketed springs.

Limitations: While the Nova Hybrid has plenty to laud, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Stomach sleepers and those who prefer a firmer surface might find it a tad too plush. Moreover, its position as a premium offering in the Casper line means it comes with a higher price tag, potentially pushing it out of reach for some budget-conscious consumers.

Conclusion: The Casper Nova Hybrid is a symphony of craftsmanship, representing what happens when meticulous design meets advanced sleep technology. It’s more than just a mattress; it’s a testament to how far the fusion of tradition and innovation can elevate the sleep experience. For those seeking plush luxury without compromising on support, the Nova Hybrid beckons.

Casper Wave Hybrid

A modern bedroom features a dark green upholstered bed frame with a white mattress labeled "WaveH." The Casper mattress review praises its comfort, perfectly complementing the neatly dressed dark green bedding. Matching dark green nightstands on either side of the bed complete the cohesive, stylish look.

As pioneers in the bed-in-a-box movement, Casper has consistently redefined the boundaries of sleep technology. With the Wave Hybrid, they’ve sculpted not just a mattress, but a magnum opus of sleep luxury, a blend of innovative engineering, and sophisticated design.

Construction & Layers: The Casper Wave Hybrid is a masterstroke in layered construction, comprising five judiciously chosen components that synergize to offer a sleep experience like no other.

The mattress initiates its embrace with a velvety soft foam top, which provides a hint of what’s to come. Beneath this layer, cooling gel inserts are strategically positioned, ensuring sleepers remain at an optimal temperature. The third layer introduces Casper’s zoned support foam, tailored to provide firmer support where needed (like the hips and lower back) while yielding softness in other areas, such as the shoulders.

Diving deeper, we find a layer integrated with supportive gel pods. These pods, aligned meticulously, offer enhanced support to the waist and lower back, championing spinal alignment. The final layer, a robust foundation of springs, brings durability, breathability, and a touch of traditional bounce to the Wave Hybrid.

Feel & Firmness: Positioned in the medium spectrum of firmness, the Wave Hybrid leans towards the luxurious plush feel. It’s intricately balanced, designed to envelop sleepers in a gentle cradle while simultaneously offering the firm support essential for spinal health.

Performance & Highlights: Apart from its stellar zoned support, a distinguishing feature of the Wave Hybrid is its temperature-regulating prowess. The gel pods, combined with the breathable spring layer, ensure that heat retention is a concern of the past. Furthermore, the Wave Hybrid performs admirably in motion isolation, making it an ideal choice for couples or restless sleepers.

Limitations: Excellence often comes with a price, and the Wave Hybrid is no exception. Its position at the apex of Casper’s offerings means that it commands a premium price, potentially placing it outside the range for budget shoppers. Moreover, those who prefer a decidedly firm or notably soft mattress may need to consider other options.

Conclusion: The Casper Wave Hybrid stands as an embodiment of the brand’s relentless pursuit of perfection. Marrying cutting-edge sleep technology with luxury, it serves as a beacon for what’s possible in the world of modern mattresses. Those in quest of unparalleled comfort, backed by scientific design, need look no further than the Wave Hybrid. It’s not just a place to sleep; it’s an experience to be savored.

Casper Snow

A modern bedroom showcases a neatly made bed with a gray upholstered headboard and bed frame. The mattress, likely praised in many Casper mattress reviews, has "Snow" written on its side. Two gray pillows and a matching blanket adorn the bed. Pendant lights hang on each side, illuminating small bedside tables below them.

When we talk about sleep innovation, the narrative remains incomplete without delving into the realm of temperature regulation. With the Casper Snow, we witness the embodiment of this very paradigm, a mattress that’s not only centered around comfort but is singularly obsessed with keeping you cool.

Construction & Layers: At the core of Casper Snow lies a nuanced layered structure, meticulously designed to cater to diverse sleep needs while ensuring optimal cooling.

Starting the ensemble is a premium knit cover, cool to the touch, setting the stage for the cooling saga beneath. Immediately below, a phase-change material is introduced, serving as a dynamic temperature regulator that adjusts based on the sleeper’s body heat. This is complemented by Casper’s proprietary AirScape™ foam layers, perforated to promote airflow and infused with cooling agents to dissipate heat.

Further layers maintain the brand’s trademark zoned support, ensuring the mattress addresses differential pressure points of the body with tailored precision. As we delve deeper, a sturdy base layer offers resilience, longevity, and yet another avenue for breathability, ensuring the Snow’s cooling promise is maintained from top to bottom.

Feel & Firmness: The Casper Snow, while dedicated to cooling, doesn’t compromise on comfort. It nestles sleepers in a medium-firm embrace, making it an ideal choice for a wide array of sleepers, from side to stomach.

Performance & Highlights: The crowning glory of the Casper Snow is its unparalleled cooling prowess. Whether it’s the phase-change material, the AirScape™ foam, or the breathable base, every element converges to combat heat retention. This makes the mattress a boon for those who find themselves frequently warm during the night.

Limitations: While the Snow’s cooling attributes are undoubtedly stellar, the mattress might be an overkill for those who don’t grapple with heat issues during sleep. Furthermore, its specialized nature means it carries a price tag on the higher end of the spectrum, which could deter budget-conscious consumers.

Conclusion: The Casper Snow is a testament to how far mattress technology has come in addressing specific sleep concerns. It’s a nod to all those warm sleepers, offering them a sanctuary where heat is consistently and efficiently tackled. If the essence of luxury is customization, then the Snow, with its cooling-centric design, epitomizes luxury in the realm of sleep. For those who yearn for a consistently cool sleeping environment, the Casper Snow emerges as an uncontestable choice.

Casper Snow Wave Hybrid

snow wave hybrid

In the vast expanse of the mattress galaxy, few stars shine as brightly as the Snow Wave Hybrid by Casper. Positioned as a luminary in sleep technology, it is where Casper’s lauded cooling prowess meets the balanced support of a hybrid mattress.

Construction & Layers: The intricacy and brilliance of the Snow Wave Hybrid lie in its meticulously layered composition, curated with both luxury and functionality in mind.

Commencing the journey is a premium knit cover, instantly invoking a sensation of coolness upon contact. This is supported by an underlying phase-change material, acting as a dynamic thermostat, adjusting and responding to body temperature fluctuations throughout the night. Next, Casper’s patented AirScape™ foam layers make an appearance, punctuated for enhanced airflow and further infused with cooling agents to banish any remnants of heat.

Adding depth and functionality, the subsequent layers exhibit zoned support, ensuring targeted relief and alignment. Gel pods, strategically located, bolster this support, particularly in regions like the lower back. Culminating this sleep masterpiece is a robust layer of pocketed coils, providing not only the cherished springy responsiveness but also facilitating airflow, fortifying the mattress’s cooling mandate.

Feel & Firmness: Bearing the hallmark of a medium-firm mattress, the Snow Wave Hybrid offers a delicate balance of plush comfort and firm support. The hybrid nature ensures that while sleepers sink into its soft embrace, they’re simultaneously supported, especially in crucial areas like the spine.

Performance & Highlights: Beyond its eminent cooling capabilities, the Snow Wave Hybrid shines in motion isolation. The amalgamation of foam layers and individually pocketed springs means that disturbances from a restless partner are minimized. Furthermore, edge support, often a concern in foam-centric mattresses, is notably robust in this hybrid iteration.

Limitations: As with all masterpieces, the Snow Wave Hybrid comes at a premium. Its price might be a point of contemplation for those on a tighter budget. Moreover, while its cooling mechanisms are revolutionary, they might not be deemed essential for individuals who don’t typically struggle with heat during sleep.

Conclusion: The Snow Wave Hybrid stands as a testament to Casper’s unyielding commitment to innovation. It’s not just a mattress; it’s a sleep experience, meticulously crafted for those who demand excellence in both support and temperature regulation. For those who seek a sleep sanctuary where cooling is paramount and hybrid support is cherished, the Snow Wave Hybrid emerges as the unequivocal zenith.

Casper vs. The Mattress World: A Study in Distinction

The mattress industry, in its evolution, has seen a multitude of brands vying for the throne of sleep supremacy. Among these contenders, Casper has emerged, not just as another name, but as a benchmark in innovation and customer-centric design. Let’s dissect how Casper stands tall amidst its peers and why it’s carved a unique niche in the mattress market.

Innovation and R&D: While many brands repurpose existing technologies, Casper has invested heavily in research and development, consistently unveiling proprietary materials and designs like the Zoned Support™ and AirScape™ foam. Their pursuit is clear: to push the envelope, rather than merely fit within it.

Variety & Versatility: Casper’s mattress range, from the Original to the Snow Wave Hybrid, ensures that there’s a bed for every kind of sleeper. Whether you’re a side sleeper seeking plushness, a back sleeper needing firm support, or someone yearning for the ultimate cooling experience, Casper’s catalog has a solution.

Direct-to-Consumer Model: While other brands have been entangled in traditional retail markups and middlemen, Casper’s direct-to-consumer model ensures two things: competitive pricing and a more personalized customer experience. This approach not only democratizes premium sleep solutions but also fosters a closer brand-consumer relationship.

100-Night Trial & Transparency: Trust, in the e-commerce era, is paramount. Casper’s 100-night risk-free trial offers customers the luxury of time and experience. While many competitors also offer trials, Casper complements this with unparalleled transparency about its materials, manufacturing processes, and even its supply chain.

Environmental Stewardship: In an age where sustainability is more than just a buzzword, Casper’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint stands out. Their mattresses are crafted to reduce environmental harm, and their packaging is consciously designed to minimize waste.

Customer Reviews & Advocacy: A brand’s true litmus test lies in its customer feedback. Casper, with thousands of positive reviews and testimonials, showcases not just product excellence but also superior customer service. Happy sleepers have become brand ambassadors, a testament to Casper’s quality.

Comparison to Key Competitors: When juxtaposed with giants like Tempur-Pedic, Casper offers a more modern approach to mattress shopping and often at a fraction of the price. Against newer bed-in-a-box brands like Purple or Nectar, Casper’s broader range, extensive R&D, and consistent customer feedback often give it an edge.

Conclusion: The mattress industry is saturated, but even in a crowded room, some manage to stand apart. Casper, with its commitment to innovation, customer experience, and sustainability, has not only differentiated itself but has also set new industry standards. For those navigating the maze of mattress shopping, Casper emerges as a beacon of reliability, quality, and trust.

The Coop Mattress Topper is a 5-inch memory foam mattress topper that is designed to provide pressure relief and support. It is made with a shredded memory foam filling that conforms to the body and reduces pressure points. The mattress topper also has a baffle box construction that helps to prevent the filling from shifting and clumping.

The Coop Mattress Topper is available in a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial and a 5-year warranty.

The Coop Mattress Topper is a popular choice for people who are looking for a way to improve their sleep quality. It is also a good option for people who are on a budget, as it is relatively affordable compared to other mattress toppers on the market.

Here are some of the benefits of using the Coop Mattress Topper:

  • Pressure relief: The shredded memory foam filling conforms to the body and reduces pressure points, which can help to improve sleep quality and reduce pain.
  • Support: The mattress topper provides support for the spine and neck, which can help to improve posture and reduce back pain.
  • Comfort: The mattress topper adds a layer of comfort to the mattress, making it more plush and soft.
  • Versatility: The mattress topper can be used on any type of mattress, including memory foam, latex, and spring mattresses.
  • Affordability: The Coop Mattress Topper is relatively affordable compared to other mattress toppers on the market.

If you are looking for a way to improve your sleep quality and comfort, the Coop Mattress Topper is a good option to consider.

Coop is best known for its line of adjustable loft pillows. I was recently given a free sample of their new mattress topper for review. This topper can be flipped for a soft or firm feel making it more versatile than your typical topper. A queen size retails for $269.95 so it is certainly more expensive than most but since you get two feels in one topper there’s a lot of value there too.

Overview of the Flip Mattress Topper

You can get the best price on your Coop topper through their website. Most mattress toppers do not come with a trial period but Coop gives you 100 nights to try it out to see if it is a good solution for your needs. If you don’t like it you can contact Coop and they will give you a prepaid return label so it is also free return shipping. You also get a 5 year warranty but that only covers you against a manufacturer defect under normal use. Since it’s a topper, there’s really not much that can go wrong with it, and if there is, you will usually know it right away and can just return or exchange it.

The topper comes packaged in a small container.

My Coop Mattress Topper Findings

Although this topper is pricey, there are some added features that make it worth the expense. First, you get their waterproof cover included. This is a machine washable cover with elastic bands that will keep the topper in place and keep it clean.

coop band

The topper is 4 inches thick which means it’s going to substantially change the feel of your current mattress. The soft side will really cradle your body and provide substantial pressure relief for even the firmest of mattresses.

The firm side is still going to provide quite a bit of pressure relief but with less sinking. Most toppers are only 2-3 inches thick and so having a 4 inch topper is truly getting 2 toppers in one.

The elastic bands are designed to be flexible enough to work with thick mattresses. In the picture above it is attached to a 14-inch thick mattress.

Here’s a picture illustrating sinkage with my 14 lb. bowling ball on the topper. This is the soft side of the topper on top.

coop topper sinkage

I highly recommend this topper for guest beds that are structurally sound, meaning they still support sleepers well but are a bit too firm. Having the ability to adjust firmnesses ensures your guests will get the optimal firmness without having to buy and store two separate toppers.

Tomorrow Sleep: Must-Have Mattress for Effortless Comfort

Tomorrow Sleep Mattress

This mattress has been discontinued. Please check out our other mattress reviews.

Tomorrow Sleep is a whole ensemble of sleep technology. The centerpiece of their offerings is their mattress which comes in a medium soft and medium firm feel. For this review, I was given the Medium Soft version along with their accessories. Tomorrow sleep also has an industry leading 365-night trial. That means you can have it for a year and if you are not happy with it, you will get a full refund.

They also have an all foam version which has less bounce and motion transfer.

Overview of Tomorrow Sleep

The Tomorrow Sleep mattress comes in a box like the one below. It can easily be delivered to your door without the need to wait for a delivery van to show up. You can see in the background in the photo below some of the other accessories you can purchase through the Tomorrow Sleep website. The curtains in the windows are blackout curtains also available through this company.

Tomorrow Sleep Box

Here’s a video showcasing all the products available right now through Tomorrow Sleep. Everything from the sheets to the pillows seem to be designed to work together with the mattress to provide optimal comfort.

Tomorrow Sleep offers a 100-night  trial on all their accessories! This includes the sleep tracker, sheets, pillows, mattress protector and even curtains. It’s rare to find such a generous return policy for sleep accessories like this. The return process is easy as well since they will facilitate the return process. Just give them a call and they will take it from there.

Construction of the Tomorrow Sleep Hybrid Mattress

The Tomorrow Sleep mattress is essentially a hybrid mattress because it has a pocket coil system inside. Although it will feel more like a foam mattress, the coils will help it recover faster and provide more breathability.

Here’s an illustration of the construction of the mattress from their website:

Tomorrow Sleep Mattress Construction

Below is a picture I took of the mattress with the cover removed. Behind the white foam, you will find the pocket coil system.

Tomorrow sleep mattress layers

I did some more digging and here’s a shot of the spring system inside. These are pocket coils that all work independently so there really isn’t much motion transfer here.

6” pocketed 800 Series high-carbon steel coil
6” x 3” Ventilated Foam Side Rails

Cover

The cover of the mattress is made with a phase change material which is becoming more common among the online and store brands. This means the mattress feels cool to the touch and draws heat away from your body to help you fall asleep faster.

Top Layer

According to their site, the mattress is made with 4.8 lb. memory foam. This is fairly dense foam so you get a good combination of recovery and contouring. I think it was smart to add a denser foam along with coils because the coils will provide more recovery.

Second Layer

This is gel foam here that has some cooling properties

Third Layer

The third layer of the mattress is the pocket coil system along with side rails that provide ventilation of air through the sides of the mattress.

Bottom layer

This is a base layer that will protect the pocket coil system and provide sturdy support for the mattress.

The Tomorrow Sleep Foam Mattress

If springs aren’t your thing, they also offer an all foam version that is great if your partner tend to wake you up.

Tomorrow Sleep Foam Mattress

Tomorrow Sleep Hybrid Findings

If you weren’t told this mattress had springs, you probably wouldn’t know it. The mattress acts more like an all foam mattress than a spring mattress. Below is a picture illustrating how much sink you get with the medium soft version of the Tomorrow Sleep mattress

Tomorrow Sleep Sink

This mattress also doesn’t have much motion transfer event though it has coils. The top layers of foam will absorb most of the energy. Check out the video below that illustrates this point.

The video below was made with my infrared camera to show how quickly heat dissipates from the cover of the mattress:

Here’s a video showing how each of the layers react. You’ll notice that the top layer provides that dense foam contouring but the springs inside make the mattress as a whole recover quickly.

Tomorrow Sleep Memory Foam Findings

The all foam version is great for people looking for a mattress with less sinkage and less motion transfer but just the same amount of pressure relief.

My Tomorrow Sleep Recommendation

Tomorrow sleep offers you your entire sleep solution. I reviewed the medium soft mattress and found to be a truly soft mattress. On a scale from 1-10 with 10 being the softest I would rate the hybrid soft an 8.5. It is not so soft so that you lose support. Ths springs sort of catch you before you lose support and keep you afloat.

I recommend this mattress to people looking for a soft mattress that recovers quickly but gives you many of the same benefits as a dense foam mattress. It is going to behave more like an all foam mattress in terms of conforming and less motion transfer but you will get extra recovery with the coil system inside.

The memory foam mattress is everything you want in a mattress at a competitive price. If you are particularly sensitive to motion transfer this is a great choice.

I recommend the mattress protector along with this mattress as the mattress protector will keep the mattress in like new condition and the mattress protector also has phase change technology to keep you cool and was designed to fit with this mattress. It also comes with a 365-day free trial so you can always return both hassle-free.

Construction of the Arctic Dreams Mattress

Depending on what model you purchase, either the foam core or coil unit, these are the specifications as listed on their website.

  • A .75” ultra-soft quilted top offers plush, breathable comfort in a material designed to resist body impressions.
  • An advanced cooling panel, typically only offered with luxury mattresses, delivers cooling relief on contact.
  • A 2.5” patented layer of gel memory foam pairs ultimate optimal pressure point relief with just the right amount of responsiveness.
  • The Arctic Dreams mattress is offered with two core options:
    • The all-foam version, which features a 7.5” high-density foundation with open cell technology—giving the mattress structural firmness as well as durability.
    • The hybrid, which features a 6” layer of individually encased coils, designed to deliver ultimate pressure point relief while decreasing motion transfer between sleep partners. The coil system is paired with a 1” high-density foam base that adds durability to the mattress while reinforcing individually encased coils as they compress.

construction of the arctic dreams mattress

My Arctic Dreams Findings

This mattress is on the firmer end of the spectrum. I think that’s because there’s really only one layer of foam at the top and although the coils help with contouring they are still fairly firm. There’s a little batting stitched into the cover to soften it up a bit.

top layer

Here you can see how much my 14lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. I really like the feel of the phase change cover. It’s sort of a silky feel and is cool to the touch. Most mattresses at this price range will use a simple knit cover which gives you more of contouring. This mattress has batting stitched into the cover which gives the mattress a more traditional feel.

My Arctic Dreams by Dreamfoam Bedding Recommendation

I recommend the Arctic Dreams mattress for people on a budget that tend to sleep hot. It is a bit on the firmer side so it’s better for stomach and back sleepers but side sleepers can still get benefit from the mattress if they are OK firmer feel and have good shoulder and neck support from their pillow. This mattress comes with a 120-night trial which is generous considering the price. That means you can have it for about 4 months at home to see if it’s right for you. If you don’t like it, it’s a free return. You also get a 10-year warranty that is backed by Dreamfoam.

Plank Mattress Review: The Best Firm Choice for Support

Plank
Best Firm Mattress 2024
Plank by Brooklyn Bedding

The Plank by Brooklyn Bedding comes in an all-foam or hybrid version. The all-foam version is great for eliminating motion transfer and partner disturbance. The Plank is one of the firmest foam mattresses we tested and you get the option to upgrade to a cooling top layer to help you fall asleep even faster.

We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

The Plank mattress, along with the Plank Luxe and other mattress models, is manufactured by Brooklyn Bedding, an American company established in 1995. This means the Plank mattress has been around for close to a decade, although the exact launch date isn’t readily available.

Here’s a breakdown of Brooklyn Bedding and the Plank mattress:

  • Company: Brooklyn Bedding (established in 1995)
  • Mattress: Plank (available in two versions: Plank and Plank Luxe)
  • Availability: Since around 2014 (estimated)

While the Plank may not be the oldest mattress model on the market, it benefits from Brooklyn Bedding’s long-standing experience in the industry and commitment to quality craftsmanship. The company is known for using high-quality materials, offering various mattress types, and providing customer-friendly policies like long trial periods and warranties.

The Plank mattress is a firm, flat, and supportive mattress that is designed to provide neutral spine alignment. It is made with a layer of high-density foam that is designed to reduce pressure points and provide support for the entire body. The Plank mattress is also flippable, so you can choose between a firm and extra-firm side.

There are three models of the Plank mattress available to buy:

  • Plank Firm: The Plank Firm is the firmest of the three models. It is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a very firm mattress that provides good support.
    Plank Firm mattress
  • Plank Firm Luxe: The Plank Firm Luxe is a slightly softer version of the Plank Firm. It is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support and some pressure relief.
    Plank Firm Luxe mattress

  • Plank Firm Natural: The Plank Firm Natural is made with natural and organic materials. It is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that is also eco-friendly.
    Plank Firm Natural mattress

All three models of the Plank mattress are available in a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king.

The Plank mattress is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support. It is also a good choice for sleepers who have back pain or other musculoskeletal problems. However, it is important to note that the Plank mattress is a very firm mattress and may not be suitable for all sleepers.

If you are considering buying a Plank mattress, I recommend that you try it out for yourself before you buy it. The Plank mattress is available to try at Yawnder and is available to purchase through our website.

I recently received a free Plank Mattress from Brooklyn Bedding for review. This is the ideal mattress for people that like a really firm mattress. This is a two-sided, all foam mattress where one side is firm and the other side is really firm! If you don’t like a firm mattress, stay away from the Plank. If you do like a firm, supportive mattress that has zero motion transfer this is for you.

Overview of the Plank Mattress

The Plank mattress comes shipped in a box to your doorstep about 5 days after placing the order on their website. It comes with a 120-night trial where you can try it out in your home and if you don’t like it, returns are free. It is made in the USA in Arizona. The parent company of Plank is Brooklyn Bedding and I have reviewed a number of their mattresses. What I like about this company is that they are factory direct so you get a lot of value because there aren’t any markups along the way.

Here’s a video overview highlighting the main features of the mattress including a look inside.

My Plank Mattress Findings

This is hands down the firmest mattress I have slept on. That said it was by no means uncomfortable especially if you know what you are getting into. I certainly don’t recommend this for side sleepers as you will probably find it too uncomfortably on your hips and shoulders. Back and side sleepers that need extra support will really enjoy this mattress.

This mattress can be flipped and when you look at the construction the difference between each side is that the firm side lacks the 2 inches of Titan Flex foam. So basically, you are sleeping 1.5 inches of the quilted cover with the support foam underneath. That’s about as firm as it gets before you may want to question why you need to sleep on a mattress at all.

Here’s a pick of the firmness on the”soft side”.

plank mattress firmness

If you are going for a really firm mattress, it makes sense to go with a foam mattress because springs really won’t provide any value. Springs are used to help with contouring without losing support. But if you don’t need much contouring to begin with, springs will just add unwanted motion transfer.

Here you can see how little I sink into the Plank.

plank sink

This mattress inherently sleeps cool because you don’t sink into the mattress that much and therefore your body isn’t surrounded by material. This also makes it much easier to move around on. For an extra $250 you can add the PCM cover for extra cooling but in my opinion, it probably isn’t necessary.

Because this is a relatively simple construction, the mattress is fairly light and therefore easy to move. Since it is firm it’s not that wobbly either.

My Plank Mattress Recommendation

If you know you like a really firm mattress with excellent support and no motion transfer, the Plank is an excellent choice. Side sleepers should probably look elsewhere but back and stomach sleepers will really appreciate the support and overall value this mattress provides.

Plank Construction

Plank Mattress Construction

All three Plank mattress models (Firm, Firm Luxe, and Firm Natural) share the same basic construction:

  • Cover: The cover is made of a soft and breathable fabric. It is removable and machine-washable.
  • Comfort layer: The comfort layer is made of a thin layer of soft foam. This layer provides some pressure relief and helps to make the mattress more comfortable to sleep on.
  • Support core: The support core is made of a thick layer of high-density foam. This layer provides support for the entire body and helps to maintain neutral spine alignment.

The Plank Firm and Plank Firm Natural mattresses have the same construction, except for the materials used in the cover and comfort layer. The Plank Firm mattress has a synthetic cover and comfort layer, while the Plank Firm Natural mattress has an organic cover and comfort layer.

The Plank Firm Luxe mattress has a slightly different construction than the other two models. It has an additional layer of medium-density foam between the comfort layer and the support core. This additional layer provides more pressure relief and makes the mattress more comfortable to sleep on.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of the construction of each Plank mattress model:

Plank Firm:

  • Cover: Synthetic fabric
  • Comfort layer: Synthetic foam
  • Support core: High-density foam

Plank Firm Natural:

  • Cover: Organic fabric
  • Comfort layer: Organic foam
  • Support core: High-density foam

Plank Firm Luxe:

  • Cover: Synthetic fabric
  • Comfort layer: Synthetic foam
  • Transition layer: Medium-density foam
  • Support core: High-density foam

All Plank mattresses are made in the United States and come with a 10-year warranty.

How Much Do Plank Mattresses Cost?

The price of the Plank mattress varies depending on the model and size. Here is a table of the prices for all three Plank mattress models in all sizes:

ModelTwinTwin XLFullQueenKingCalifornia King
Plank Firm$562$622$742$892$1,042$1,149

Plank Firm Natural$662$722$842$992$1,142$1,249

As you can see, the Plank Firm Natural mattress is the most expensive of the three models. This is because it is made with natural and organic materials.

The Plank mattress is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support. However, it is important to note that the Plank mattress is a more expensive mattress than some other options on the market.

If you are considering buying a Plank mattress, I recommend that you shop around and compare prices before you buy. The Plank mattress is available from a variety of retailers, both online and in-store. You can also purchase the Plank mattress directly from the Plank mattress website.

Which Side Of Plank To Sleep On Based On Sleep Position

Sleeping PositionPlank Mattress (Traditional Firm)Considerations
Back SleepersGood: The firm support can align the spine and provide pressure relief on the lower back.Choose the softer side for slightly more cushioning, while the firmer side offers more support for heavier individuals.
Stomach SleepersGood: The firmness prevents excessive sinkage, keeping the hips and spine aligned.Opt for the firmer side for optimal support, especially for heavier individuals.
Side SleepersNeutral: The firmness might be too firm for some, potentially causing pressure points on shoulders and hips.Consider adding a soft mattress topper for pressure relief, especially on the firmer side.

Additional Notes:

  • This table is a general guide, and your personal experience may vary.
  • Individual factors like body weight, pain points, and personal preferences significantly impact the best sleeping position on the Plank mattress.
  • Trying both sides of the mattress and experimenting with different sleeping positions is crucial to find the most comfortable option for you.
  • Remember, the Plank Luxe mattress offers an extra layer of latex for slightly more pressure relief, potentially benefiting side sleepers more than the traditional Plank

Plank Mattress Complaints

Here are some common complaints about the Plank mattress:

  • Too firm for some sleepers: The Plank mattress is a very firm mattress. This may be too firm for some sleepers, especially those who are used to a softer mattress.
  • May not be suitable for side sleepers: The Plank mattress may not be the best choice for side sleepers, as it may not provide enough pressure relief for the hips and shoulders.
  • More expensive than some other mattresses: The Plank mattress is a more expensive mattress than some other options on the market.
  • Edge support could be better: Some sleepers have complained that the edge support on the Plank mattress is not very good. This means that you may feel like you are rolling off the edge of the bed if you sleep near the edge.
  • Off-gassing: Some sleepers have complained about an off-gassing odor when they first opened their Plank mattress. This odor is typically harmless and will dissipate over time.

Overall, the Plank mattress is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support. However, it is important to note that the Plank mattress is a very firm mattress and may not be suitable for all sleepers.

If you are considering buying a Plank mattress, I recommend that you read reviews from other customers before you buy. This will help you to get a better idea of what to expect from the mattress. You may also want to try out the Plank mattress in a store before you buy it. This will give you a chance to see if the mattress is comfortable for you.

Plank Mattress Edge Support

Both the Plank and Plank Luxe mattresses are known for their exceptional edge support, thanks to their high-density foam base and construction. However, there are some slight differences between the two:

Plank Mattress:

  • Excellent edge support: Many reviews and testing reports praise the Plank Mattress’s consistent firmness and good edge support across the entire sleeping surface.
  • Firm construction: Its traditional firm feel contributes to the strong edges, allowing sleepers to utilize the full width of the mattress without experiencing significant sinkage.
  • Potential downside: Due to its overall firmness, some side sleepers might find the edges a bit too firm for their comfort.

Plank Luxe:

  • Excellent edge support: Like the Plank, the Luxe also boasts strong edges due to its high-density foam base and core construction.
  • Responsive latex layer: While the latex layer adds some pressure relief, its overall firmness ensures good edge support for sitting and sleeping near the perimeter.
  • Potential downside: Similar to the Plank, the Luxe’s firmness might be less suitable for side sleepers who prefer softer edges for shoulder pressure relief.

Overall:

  • Both Plank and Plank Luxe offer significantly better edge support than many all-foam mattresses due to their sturdy construction.
  • Individual preferences and sleeping positions might influence which one feels more comfortable in terms of edge support.
  • Side sleepers seeking softer edges might benefit from additional padding or a different mattress altogether.

Plank vs. Winkbed Firm

The Plank mattress and the WinkBed Firm are both firm mattresses that are designed to provide good support. However, there are some key differences between the two mattresses that may make one a better fit for you than the other.

Plank mattress

  • Construction: The Plank mattress is made with a single layer of high-density foam. This makes it a very firm mattress that is designed to provide good support for the entire body.
  • Firmness: The Plank mattress is a very firm mattress. It is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a mattress that provides good support and pressure relief.
  • Pressure relief: The Plank mattress is not as good at relieving pressure as some other mattresses on the market. This is because it is made with a single layer of high-density foam.
  • Edge support: The edge support on the Plank mattress is not very good. This means that you may feel like you are rolling off the edge of the bed if you sleep near the edge.

WinkBed Firm

  • Construction: The WinkBed Firm is made with a combination of foam and coils. This makes it a firm mattress that is designed to provide good support and pressure relief.
  • Firmness: The WinkBed Firm is a firm mattress, but it is not as firm as the Plank mattress. It is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support and pressure relief.
  • Pressure relief: The WinkBed Firm is better at relieving pressure than the Plank mattress. This is because it is made with a combination of foam and coils.
  • Edge support: The edge support on the WinkBed Firm is better than the Plank mattress. This means that you are less likely to feel like you are rolling off the edge of the bed if you sleep near the edge.

Overall, the Plank mattress is a better choice for sleepers who are looking for a very firm mattress that provides good support. The WinkBed Firm is a better choice for sleepers who are looking for a firm mattress that provides good support and pressure relief.

Best Mattress for Adjustable Bed: Must-Have Comfort Options

best mattress for adjustable bed

If you are in the market for an adjustable bed, you want to make sure that your bed is compatible. Thankfully any mattress that comes roll packed in a box is a perfect candidate but there are some that are more suitable than others. Mattress that are not compatible with an adjustable bed are mattresses that incorporate wires along the side of the coil systems. These types of coil systems are usually found in cheap mattresses because they are easier to make. A good way to tell is to push against the top or bottom corner of the mattress and if you can feel a coil along the edge then it won’t work on an adjustable bed. The reason being is that when the mattress inclines, it will bend the coil and warp the mattress.

Basically just about every memory foam mattress is compatible with an adjustable bed with a few exceptions. With the advent of pocket coils and micro coils, more innerspring mattresses are also compatible. Pocket coils are individually wrapped coils that work independently and do not have a rail system along the edges so they can contour and be roll packed. It’s the same with micro coils which are basically mini pocket coil systems that are often found in memory foam mattresses to provide a bit more breathability.

Here’s a picture of a hybrid mattress with pocket coils and latex on the top. As you can see each spring is wrapped.

Pocket Coil System

Here’s a video illustrating how well a memory foam mattress contours with an adjustable bed. Tempurpedic mattresses are especially well suited for adjustable beds because they use dense foam making the mattress heavier so that it contours better.

Best Memory Foam Mattress for and Adjustable Base – Tempurpedic Cloud

Tempurpedic CLoud Adjustable Bed

The Tempurpedic Cloud is the first Tempurpedic mattress to come in a box and is one of their most affordable models. It has a medium-firm feel and has zero motion transfer. What I like about this mattress is that the foam is very dense so the weight of the mattress sinks into the adjustable base as it articulates.  If you are looking for a softer, more budget-friendly option, check out the Idle Gel Foam mattress.

Best Natural Mattress for an Adjustable Bed – Plush Beds Botanical Bliss

Plushbeds for Adjustable Base

If you want an all-natural mattress for your adjustable bed, your best bet is a mattress made with latex. There are many natural mattresses on the market but most of them are made with spring and latex. I would advise against this construction since the coils will absorb most of the vibration if you choose to utilize the massage feature. I am a big fan of Plush Beds all latex mattresses, in particular, the Botanical Bliss. This mattress is made with all-natural latex and will conform well on your adjustable bed and allow you to get the full benefit of the massage feature. Read the full Botanical Bliss Mattress Review Here.

Best Spring Mattress for an Adjustable Base – Brentwood Home Oceano

brentwood home oceano adjustable

I don’t normally recommend a mattress with springs if you are going to utilize the massage features of your adjustable bed. However, you should always choose a bet that is most comfortable as you won’t be using the massage features while you sleep. The Brentwood Home Oceano is one of my favorite mattresses overall and it is a great choice for an adjustable bed. This mattress actually has 2 layers of springs but because the mattress is tufted, and it is made with pocket coils, you can still get some benefit from the massage feature. The tufting keeps everything in place while the pocket coils move independently so that your partner won’t be disturbed. This mattress contours very well on an adjustable bed meaning you won’t have to sacrifice comfort for functionality.

Stunning Bed Barrier Tips for Safe Hurricane Shelter

Hurricane Hilary

Using Your Bed for Protection During Hurricane Hilary: A Step-by-Step Guide

As Hurricane Hilary approaches Southern California, with an expected landfall on August 20, 2023, residents are urged to prepare for the impending storm. With winds exceeding 100 miles per hour and the potential for torrential rainfall, it’s essential to have a plan in place to stay safe. One often-overlooked option is using your bed as a protective barrier. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Choose a Safe Room: Identify a room in your home that is least exposed to the storm. This should be an interior room with no windows, such as a bathroom, closet, or hallway. Avoid rooms with large windows or glass doors, as they can shatter during the storm.

  2. Prepare the Room: Remove any loose items, such as picture frames or vases, which could become projectiles during the hurricane. Secure heavy furniture to the walls, if possible, to prevent it from tipping over.

  3. Move Your Bed: If the room you’ve chosen is large enough, move your bed into the room. If not, you can use your mattresses or box springs. Position your bed, mattress, or box spring against the walls, creating a fort-like structure. This will provide a protective barrier against flying debris and possible structural damage during the hurricane.

  4. Gather Supplies: Inside your designated safe room, store a supply of water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, and a battery-powered or hand-crank radio. Keep these essentials in a sturdy container, so you can quickly access them during the storm.

  5. Stay Updated: Tune into local news and weather stations for the latest updates on Hurricane Hilary’s path and strength. Follow the instructions of local authorities, and be ready to evacuate if necessary.

  6. Seek Shelter: When the storm hits, take cover in your designated safe room behind your makeshift bed barrier. Stay there until the storm has passed and it’s safe to emerge. Hurricanes can last several hours, so be prepared to stay in your shelter for an extended period.

  7. Remain Calm: Hurricanes can be frightening, but it’s important to stay calm. Keep a battery-powered or hand-crank radio nearby to stay updated on the storm’s progress and any emergency announcements.

  8. Assess Damage: After the hurricane has passed and it’s safe to leave your shelter, carefully inspect your home for damage. Look for signs of structural damage, gas leaks, or water leaks. If you suspect any gas leaks, turn off the main gas valve and contact emergency services immediately.

  9. Document Damage: Take photos and videos of any damage to your property. This documentation will be essential for insurance claims.

  10. Follow Local Instructions: In the aftermath of Hurricane Hilary, adhere to any directives from local authorities regarding re-entry into evacuated areas, debris removal, and safety precautions.

Remember, your bed, mattresses, or heavy blankets can provide a protective barrier during a hurricane, but they are not a substitute for proper hurricane preparedness. Always have a comprehensive emergency plan in place, including a designated safe room and essential supplies. Stay informed, follow local guidelines, and prioritize your safety and the safety of your loved ones during Hurricane Hilary and any future storms.

Hurricane Hilary San Diego

Surviving Hurricane Hilary: Strategies for Sleeping Safely Without Power

As Hurricane Hilary continues its advance toward Southern California, residents should be prepared for the likelihood of power outages. Navigating these situations can be daunting, especially when trying to get some sleep amid the chaos. Here, we offer some strategies for ensuring a restful night’s sleep during power outages caused by Hurricane Hilary.

  1. Create a Safe Space: Before attempting to sleep, ensure that you have a secure place to rest. Choose a room with no windows or the smallest windows possible, such as an interior room, hallway, or bathroom. These areas are less likely to be impacted by flying debris and will offer a quieter environment for sleep.

  2. Use Portable Lighting: As the power may be out, have a flashlight or battery-operated lantern ready for use. Avoid using candles, as they can pose a fire hazard. Keep your lighting source within arm’s reach in case you need it during the night.

  3. Stay Cool: With the power out, your home’s air conditioning will not be functional. To keep cool, wear lightweight, breathable clothing and use battery-operated fans if available. If your home becomes too hot, dampen a washcloth with cool water and place it on your forehead or the back of your neck to help lower your body temperature.

  4. Avoid Overexertion: During a hurricane, it is essential to conserve energy. Overexertion can lead to excessive sweating and dehydration, making it harder to fall asleep. Instead, focus on staying calm and relaxed.

  5. Limit Noise Disruptions: Hurricanes can be noisy, with loud winds, rain, and thunder. To help drown out the noise, consider using earplugs or noise-canceling headphones. These can help create a more serene environment for sleep.

  6. Minimize Light Exposure: If the storm occurs during the day, cover windows with blankets or towels to block out light and create a darker environment conducive to sleep.

  7. Stay Informed: Keep a battery-powered or hand-crank radio nearby to monitor the progress of Hurricane Hilary and any updates from local authorities. Set the volume low enough to hear important announcements but not so loud that it disrupts your sleep.

  8. Create Comfort: Make your sleeping area as comfortable as possible. Use pillows, blankets, or even your bed’s mattress to create a cozy environment. Consider bringing your favorite comfort items, like a book or stuffed animal, to help you relax.

  9. Practice Relaxation Techniques: To ease your mind and prepare for sleep, practice deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation. These techniques can help reduce stress and promote restful sleep.

  10. Prioritize Safety: While getting adequate sleep is essential, your safety should always be your top priority. If the hurricane’s intensity increases or your home becomes unsafe, be prepared to move to a safer location, even if it means sacrificing some sleep.

The arrival of Hurricane Hilary in Southern California requires residents to take safety precautions seriously.

Following these guidelines can help you achieve a better night’s sleep during power outages caused by the storm. Remember, staying informed, calm, and safe are of the utmost importance during any hurricane event.

Staying entertained without power during Hurricane Hilary may seem challenging, but with a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can find plenty of activities to pass the time and reduce stress. Remember to stay informed about the hurricane’s status, follow local authorities’ recommendations, and prioritize your safety throughout the storm.

Southern California, located along the western coast of the United States, typically experiences relatively mild weather compared to other regions. It is generally sheltered from the full force of hurricanes and tropical cyclones due to cooler ocean temperatures and prevailing wind patterns. However, there have been some exceptions. Here, we detail some of the most devastating tropical systems that have impacted Southern California:

  1. Hurricane Kathleen (1976): Kathleen remains one of the most significant hurricanes to hit Southern California. The storm brought strong winds and heavy rainfall, causing severe flooding. The hurricane claimed six lives, destroyed hundreds of homes, and resulted in over $160 million in damages.

  2. Tropical Storm Nora (1997): Although it had weakened from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical storm by the time it made landfall in Southern California, Nora still caused considerable damage. The storm’s remnants brought heavy rainfall to the region, resulting in flooding, landslides, and significant property damage. Overall, Nora caused three fatalities and over $100 million in damages.

  3. Tropical Storm Lidia (1981): Lidia’s remnants brought heavy rainfall to Southern California, causing flash flooding and mudslides. The storm caused three fatalities and millions of dollars in damages.

  4. Tropical Storm Octave (1983): Although Octave did not directly impact Southern California, its remnants caused severe flooding in parts of the state. The storm claimed several lives, destroyed hundreds of homes, and caused millions of dollars in damages.

  5. Hurricane Dolores (2015): Dolores did not make direct landfall in Southern California, but its remnants brought heavy rainfall to the region. The rain caused flash flooding, leading to property damage and transportation disruptions.

It’s essential to note that while these storms have been among the most significant to impact Southern California, they are rare events. The region typically sees less tropical storm activity than other parts of the United States, such as the Gulf Coast or Southeast. However, it’s always crucial for residents to stay informed and prepared for any potential storms, especially during hurricane season.

Bed-in-a-Box: The Best Choice for Effortless Comfort

Mattress in a box vs regular mattress
Zoma mattress box

When it comes to choosing a mattress, you may find yourself torn between the newer “bed-in-a-box” options and traditional mattresses delivered flat. Both types of mattresses have their own unique set of advantages and drawbacks, and the choice ultimately depends on your personal preferences, budget, and needs.

Getting it Home

Getting a mattress to your bedroom can be a challenging task, especially if you live in an apartment with tight hallways or narrow staircases. Here’s where bed-in-a-box mattresses have a distinct advantage. These mattresses are compressed, vacuum-sealed, and packed in a compact box, making it much easier to maneuver through tight spaces and bring to your bedroom. While the packaging is more compact, it’s essential to remember that these mattresses can still be heavy, so you may need some help carrying it to your room.

Traditional mattresses, on the other hand, are delivered flat, often by a team of professionals who can help move the mattress into your bedroom. The downside is that traditional mattresses can be large and bulky, making it difficult to navigate through tight spaces. Some companies, such as Saatva, offer free white glove delivery to ensure a smooth transition from the delivery van to your bedroom.

Advantage: Bed-in-a-box. Easier to maneuver through tight spaces, but keep in mind that the mattress can still be heavy.

Shipping

Shipping is another aspect to consider when choosing between a bed-in-a-box and a traditional mattress. Due to their compact size, bed-in-a-box mattresses can be stored and shipped more efficiently, often via FedEx or UPS. This can result in faster delivery times, especially if you’re purchasing from a well-known brand that ships directly from the manufacturer. However, be cautious of super-fast shipping times, as it may indicate that the mattress has been sitting in a box for an extended period, which could affect its internal layers.

Traditional mattresses are typically delivered by specialized freight carriers, and while the shipping process may take longer, it allows the mattress to maintain its original shape and integrity.

Advantage: Bed-in-a-box. Faster shipping times, but be wary of mattresses that ship too quickly.

Decompression

One of the key differences between a bed-in-a-box and a traditional mattress is the decompression time. Once you’ve unboxed and unrolled your bed-in-a-box mattress, it will need some time to expand and reach its full height. This process can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the brand and materials used. A slow decompression time may indicate that the mattress has been in its box for an extended period.

On the other hand, traditional mattresses are ready to use as soon as they’re delivered, with no waiting time required.

Advantage: Traditional mattress. No decompression time required; ready to use immediately.

Quality

When it comes to quality, both bed-in-a-box and traditional mattresses can offer high-quality options. The quality of materials and construction plays a more significant role than the delivery method. Generally, the more you invest in your mattress, the higher the quality. It’s essential to compare mattresses within the same price range to get an accurate assessment of quality.

Advantage: Draw. Quality depends on the materials and construction, not the delivery method.

Comfort

Comfort is a crucial factor when choosing a mattress, and both bed-in-a-box and traditional mattresses can provide a comfortable sleep experience. Compression during packaging doesn’t necessarily affect the comfort of a bed-in-a-box mattress, provided it’s made from high-quality materials and hasn’t been stored in its box for extended periods. Traditional mattresses, on the other hand, are delivered in their intended shape, ensuring the layers are fresh from the factory.

Advantage: Draw. Comfort depends on the quality of materials and construction, not the delivery method.

Both bed-in-a-box and traditional mattresses have their unique advantages, and the choice ultimately depends on your preferences and needs. If you prioritize ease of transport and faster shipping times, a bed-in-a-box may be the better option. However, if you want to avoid decompression time and value immediate use upon delivery, a traditional mattress may be the better choice.

Exploring Coil Systems: Bed-in-a-Box vs. Traditional Mattresses

It is crucial to understand the different types of coil systems used in mattresses: continuous coils, Bonnell coils, offset coils, and pocketed coils (also known as Marshall or encased coils).

  1. Continuous Coil Systems utilize a single wire looped into S-shaped units, creating a robust, hinged support structure that minimizes motion transfer. These coils are primarily found in more economical mattresses.
  2. Bonnell Coil Systems feature hourglass-shaped coils, often used in budget-friendly innerspring mattresses. They offer sturdy support but can be noisier and less effective at isolating motion.
  3. Offset Coil Systems have an hourglass shape similar to Bonnell coils, but with a squared top or bottom, providing better contouring and less motion transfer.
  4. Pocketed Coil Systems consist of individually wrapped coils, allowing for better motion isolation, pressure relief, and contouring.

Bed-in-a-Box Mattresses

Bed-in-a-box mattresses often use pocketed coil systems due to their suitability for compression and decompression, crucial for shipping in a compact box. These mattresses typically layer pocketed coils with memory foam, latex, or other materials for a hybrid design. The individual wrapping allows the coils to move independently, conforming to the body and isolating motion better than interconnected coils.

Traditional Mattresses

Traditional innerspring mattresses, available in brick-and-mortar stores, use a broader range of coil systems, including Bonnell, offset, and continuous coils. High-end traditional mattresses may also employ pocketed coils. These mattresses usually have a thicker coil gauge and more substantial coil systems, offering better support and longevity but at the cost of bulkiness, making them more challenging to transport.

The choice between bed-in-a-box and traditional mattresses comes down to personal preference, budget, and specific needs. Bed-in-a-box mattresses, with their pocketed coil systems, offer excellent motion isolation and convenience but may not have the longevity of some traditional mattresses. Traditional mattresses offer a broader range of coil systems, with options for firmer support and durability but are generally more cumbersome.

  2. Delayed Response Time: In some cases, reaching customer support may take longer than expected, especially during peak hours.

Traditional Mattresses

Pros:

  1. In-Person Assistance: Traditional mattress stores offer immediate, personalized assistance from knowledgeable sales associates. They can provide expert recommendations based on individual preferences and answer any questions.
  2. Try Before You Buy: Physical stores allow customers to test multiple mattresses, gauging comfort and support levels before making a purchase.
  3. Instant Satisfaction: Traditional mattress stores often have stock readily available for immediate delivery or pick-up, providing instant gratification for eager customers.

Cons:

  1. Pressure to Buy: Sales associates in physical stores may employ high-pressure sales tactics, which can make customers feel rushed or pressured to make a purchase.
  2. Limited Return Options: Traditional mattress stores may have stricter return policies, with shorter trial periods or restocking fees for returns.

Both bed-in-a-box and traditional mattress companies offer unique customer service experiences. Online platforms provide convenience, extended trial periods, and easy access to customer reviews, while traditional stores offer personalized assistance, the ability to try before buying, and instant gratification.

Unboxing the Snooze mattress

In my relentless pursuit of the ideal sleep, I stumbled upon a revolutionary design that forever changed how I viewed mattresses. Allow me to introduce the Snooze Flip Mattress, a seamless blend of sophistication, adaptability, and luxury.

Soft or Firm? Why Not Both?

The Common Problem: Selecting a mattress often meant a difficult choice: do I go soft or firm? Soft mattresses, perfect for someone like me who tends to sleep on their side, offer that dreamy cushioning and pressure relief. Meanwhile, firm mattresses, which are favored by back and stomach sleepers, deliver the solid support that’s often needed.

My Discovery: The Snooze Flip Mattress eradicates this dilemma. No more being tethered to one comfort level for the lifespan of a mattress. As my sleep preferences shift, my mattress adapts. It’s brilliantly dual-sided, allowing me to transition between a soft and firm feel with just a simple flip.

Weathering the Seasons in Comfort

Snooze Flip Fabric

The Seasonal Struggle: As seasons change, so do our nighttime comfort needs. Scorching summers can lead to uncomfortable nights sweating, while chilly winters can leave me seeking more warmth.

The Solution I Found: The Snooze Flip Mattress. It comes equipped with a game-changing reversible cover. One side is beautifully plush, enveloping me in cozy warmth during the colder nights. The flip side, empowered by the innovative SteelFeel™ technology and High-Density Polymers, guarantees those cool, serene summer nights. Transitioning is as straightforward as unzip, flip, and re-zip.

More than Just a Mattress

Though the mattress remains a cornerstone of sleep quality, my journey taught me that a holistic sleep experience is more encompassing.

  • The Smart Adjustable Base: I adore the added luxury of remote and voice command features. Not to mention the built-in USB ports and the mood-enhancing underbed lighting.

  • State-of-the-Art Mattress Protectors: They’re not just waterproof but breathable, with a design so sleek and pockets so deep, ensuring a snug fit every time.

  • Silky, Skin-Loving Sheets: Made from hypoallergenic materials, these sheets offer a gentle touch, ensuring my skin is pampered throughout the night.

  • Tailored Pillows: These are not your everyday pillows. With unique neck and shoulder cutouts, they provide me with the right support, aligning my spine and fostering a rejuvenating sleep cycle.

In wrapping up my tale, the Snooze Flip Mattress is not just another product – it’s my trusted companion in the realm of sleep. By catering to the diverse needs of sleepers like me, it stands as a testament to adaptability, luxury, and innovation. With the Snooze Flip, every night is a promise of relaxation, restoration, and revival. Sleep has never been this sublime.

Other Flippable Mattresses to Consider

Flip-able (or two-sided) mattresses have gained popularity due to their versatility and potential for extended longevity. Here are some of the notable brands and models that offer flip-able mattresses:

  1. Layla Sleep Mattress: Layla offers a two-sided mattress that features a soft side and a firm side. It incorporates copper-infused memory foam, which can have cooling and health benefits.

  2. ZenHaven by Saatva: Crafted from natural Talalay latex, the ZenHaven offers two firmness options. One side provides a luxury plush feel, while the other is gentle firm.
  3. Plank by Brooklyn Bedding: This mattress aims for ultra-firm support, but it also offers two firmness levels. One side is standard firm, while the other is extra firm for those seeking minimal sinkage.

  4. Nest Bedding’s Alexander Signature Series Flippable: Offering both medium and luxury firm sides, this model uses high-quality memory foam and cooling fabrics.

  5. EcoSleep by Brooklyn Bedding: A hybrid model with natural latex, it offers responsive support and is designed to have a medium-firm feel on one side and a firm feel on the other.

  6. Flippable Kids Mattress by 5 Little Monkeys: Specifically designed for children, this mattress offers different firmness levels suitable for growing kids. It’s hypoallergenic and uses organic materials.

  7. Crystal Cove by Brentwood Home: An all-natural mattress combining memory foam with latex. One side features activated charcoal-infused memory foam for contouring, and the other side boasts a firmer, latex surface.

  8. Ecosa: Known for its adaptability, Ecosa’s mattress layers can be rearranged to change firmness levels. It combines gel memory foam, latex, and support foam.

  9. Sleep On Latex Pure Green Natural Latex Mattress: Made from natural latex, this mattress is available in soft, medium, and firm configurations. While technically not flippable in terms of differing firmness, it’s durable enough to be flipped to extend its lifespan.

  10. Spindle Natural Latex Mattress: Using all-natural Dunlop latex, Spindle offers a mattress where layers can be rearranged to find the right firmness. Like the Sleep On Latex model, it can also be flipped for durability.

  11. Amore Beds 2-Sided Flippable Mattress: A hybrid model combining coils with foam, this mattress offers dual comfort. One side is softer for those wanting a plush feel, while the other is firmer.

  12. Flex Elite by Sleep EZ: Made from natural latex, the Flex Elite offers three firmness options in one mattress by rearranging its layers. It’s designed for durability and can be flipped regularly.

Saatva Pillow Review: Exclusive Comfort for Every Sleeper

Saatva Pillow Review scaled

Saatva is best known for their line of mattresses. They were one of the first direct to consumer mattress companies online. I bought a Saatva back in 2012 before I started this website. Since then Saatva has introduced a number of other mattress models, adjustable bases, and bedding including sheets and pillows. The Saatva Pillow has a Talalay latex insert that gives the pillow extra support. This is a versatile pillow that is sure to please every type of sleeper without any overhyped gimmicks.

Overview of the Saatva Pillow

Here’s a video overview of the main features of the pillow. It has a very familiar feel. By that I mean it will feel like a traditional down or down alternative pillow but the latex insert gives it added support.

Ordering and Unboxing the Saatva Latex Pillow

You can get this pillow exclusively through Saatva. My order arrived in about a week and came in a box like the one below.

How Much Does the Saatva Pillow Cost?

This pillow retails for $145 in a queen size and $165 in a king size. If you buy a set of 2 king size pillows you get a discount of $40 It comes with a 45 day return period which means it’s free shipping to you and free shipping on the return so you aren’t out any money. Saatva excels with customer service so if you have any questions or concerns, they are easy to contact.

Construction of the Saatva Pillow

Here are the construction specifications as listed on the Saatva website.

Queen: 28” x 18” / King: 34” x 18”

  1. COVER: 100% organic cotton

Soft, breathable sateen cover wicks moisture and sleeps cool. Gusseted sides offer long-lasting shape and contrast welting provides a luxurious, finished look. Unzip to wash.

  2. PILLOW: Lofty and plush

100% organic cotton filled with silky, down-like microdenier fiber. This plush layer is hypoallergenic and promotes airflow for cooler, more restful sleep. Machine washable and made in the USA.

  3. CORE: Shredded Talalay latex

Responsive 100% Talalay latex, for ultimate head and neck support. Recommended by chiropractors and orthopedists, Talalay is naturally hypoallergenic, dust-mite resistant, mildew proof, and has greater airflow than imported latex. Made from natural, renewable resources.

My Saatva Pillow Findings

The first thing I noticed was that these pillows were not roll packed and shrink-wrapped. If they were, it wouldn’t affect the pillow but having them come in a full-size box made the opening experience more enjoyable and they weren’t wrinkled and didn’t have any smell when I put them on my bed.

The fist thing I noticed was the optic white cover. This is a removable cotton cover that can be washed. I still recommend using a pillowcase but I do appreciate the extra layer of protection.

On the side you will find zipper to access the inside of the pillow.

Inside the pillow, you will find the shredded Talalay Latex insert. If you sleep on your stomach you will probably want to remove this to make the pillow thinner. This also makes it a great guest pillow since it is easily customizable and has a very familiar feel. The top and bottom of the pillow have microfiber fill that makes the pillow feel like a down or down alternative pillow. Its very light and the fibers are silky smooth.

My Saatva Pillow Recommendation

I recommend this pillow for people looking for a traditional feel. Something like a down or down alternative pillow that provides a litte more support and more responsiveness. I like that you can make it thinner by removing the insert. That extra customizability helps justify the price and is something that I have seen in other pillows but this pillow just feels better. I also like the fact that you get 45 days to try it out to see if its a good fit. If anything, this is a great pillow for a guest room as it has universal appeal and will adequately fill up a pillowcase making the bed look beautiful.
