Mila Air Purifier Review – Making Clean Air Fun

Overview of the Mila Air Purifier

Mila is a brand of air purifiers that uses a multi-stage filtration system to remove pollutants and improve air quality. Mila air purifiers typically use a pre-filter, HEPA filter, activated carbon filter, and optional ionizer to remove a range of particles from the air, including dust, pollen, pet dander, and smoke. Mila air purifiers are designed for use in homes, offices, and other indoor spaces, and come in a variety of sizes and styles to suit different needs and preferences. Mila air purifiers are generally well-reviewed for their effectiveness and ease of use, although individual experiences may vary depending on factors such as the size of the space being purified and the specific pollutants present.

How Do HEPA AIr Purifiers Work?

Air purifiers work by removing particles and pollutants from the air through a process of filtration. Different types of air purifiers use different methods of filtration, but the basic idea is to capture and trap particles as air passes through the device.

One common type of air purifier is a mechanical filter air purifier, which uses a filter made of materials such as fiberglass, paper, or mesh to capture particles as they pass through. These filters may be made up of multiple layers, each designed to trap different types of particles. High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are a type of mechanical filter that can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, dust, and some viruses.

Another type of air purifier is an electrostatic precipitator, which uses an electric charge to attract and trap particles as they pass through the device. As particles become charged, they are attracted to an oppositely charged plate or filter, where they stick and are removed from the air.

Some air purifiers also use activated carbon filters, which use a porous material made from carbon to trap and remove gases and odors from the air. Some air purifiers also use UV-C light or other technologies to kill bacteria and viruses in the air.

Overall, air purifiers work by capturing and removing particles and pollutants from the air, helping to improve air quality and reduce the risk of respiratory problems and other health issues.

My Mila Air Purifier Recommendation

For many people, air purifiers are an essential tool for maintaining good indoor air quality and reducing the risk of respiratory problems and allergies. Air purifiers work by removing pollutants and particles from the air, including dust, pet dander, and pollen, and can help reduce the amount of airborne viruses and bacteria.

Additionally, air purifiers can be especially beneficial for those living in urban areas, where air pollution can be high. By filtering out pollutants and harmful particles, air purifiers can help create a cleaner and healthier environment.

For those with specific sensitivities or health issues, such as asthma or allergies, air purifiers can be a lifesaver. They can help reduce the presence of irritants in the air, which can alleviate symptoms and make daily life more comfortable.

Overall, the love for air purifiers comes from their ability to improve the air quality in our homes and create a healthier, more comfortable living environment.

The Mila Air Purifier is the most fun I have had using an air purifier in a while and its quality is evident over the 5 months I have been using it. I like it so much I actually now own two of them.

Mila vs. Molekule Air Purifier

Air pollution is a major concern in today’s world, and as a result, air purifiers have become an essential household item. Mila and Molekule are two of the most popular air purifiers available in the market today. Both brands are highly regarded for their advanced filtration systems, sleek designs, and impressive performance. However, there are some significant differences between these two brands that are worth considering before making a purchase.

Mila Air Purifier is a highly advanced air purifier that uses a six-stage filtration system to remove harmful pollutants from the air. This filtration system includes a pre-filter, HEPA filter, activated carbon filter, molecular sieve, UV-C light, and finally, a negative ion generator. This combination of filters ensures that the air is thoroughly cleaned of all pollutants, including allergens, dust, pet dander, and smoke.

Mila’s unique design allows for maximum air purification, thanks to its 360-degree air intake and output. This means that no matter where you place the purifier in the room, it can efficiently clean the air. Another impressive feature of the Mila Air Purifier is its smart capabilities. The device can be controlled through the Mila app, which allows users to set up schedules, adjust fan speeds, and monitor the air quality in real-time.

On the other hand, Molekule Air Purifier uses a proprietary PECO (photoelectrochemical oxidation) technology that is designed to destroy pollutants on a molecular level. Unlike traditional air purifiers that only trap pollutants, Molekule’s PECO technology actively destroys them, making it a highly effective air purifier for people with allergies and respiratory problems.

The Molekule Air Purifier has a sleek design that can fit seamlessly into any modern home decor. It also comes with an easy-to-use app that allows users to control the device, monitor air quality, and set schedules. However, the Molekule’s filters need to be replaced regularly, which can be costly over time.

Overall, both Mila and Molekule are impressive air purifiers that offer advanced filtration systems, sleek designs, and smart capabilities. However, Mila’s six-stage filtration system and 360-degree air intake and output make it a more efficient air purifier than Molekule. On the other hand, Molekule’s PECO technology is more effective at destroying pollutants on a molecular level, which is essential for people with allergies and respiratory problems. Ultimately, the choice between Mila and Molekule depends on your specific needs and preferences.

I received the new Hathaspace Smart True Hepa Air Purifier for review and it is a great choice for large rooms. It is designed to purify the air in rooms up to 1,500 square feet. It will eliminate over 99% of particles under 0.1 microns. This machine has a 5 stage filtration system that can not only get rid of dust but also smoke and VOCs. I have gone reviewed other air purifiers on Yawnder but so far this one is the most effective for big rooms and the best value.

Ordering the Hathaspace Smart True Hepa Air Purifier

There are two ways to buy this air purifier. You can order direct through Hathaspace which I recommend or through Amazon. Either way, shipping is fast. Mine arrived in under a week from Hathaspace. It was also packaged very well.

hathaspace box

How Much Does it Cost?

This retails for $399 but if you order through Hathaspace, you have the option of joining their filter club plan which will send you a new filter automatically every 4 months at a 10% discount. Opting into the filter club also reduces the price of the air purifier, so then the price becomes $369. You also get an extended warranty. Hathaspace has a 60 day trial period if you order direct but if you decide to return it you will need to pay return shipping costs.

Overview of the Hathaspace Air Purifier

Here’s a video overview of the device. In the video, you can see how easy it is to change and replace the filter and how loud the device can get on its highest setting which will most likely be rarely used.

Construction of the Hathaspace Air Purifier

There’s really not much to get this setup. There are instructions but the most important is to remove the plastic wrapping from the filter itself before operating.

hathaspace instructions

This is the second 5 stage air purifier I have tried and I am a convert to this technology. I noticed a real difference in air quality within minutes after turning this on. Here’s a look at each filter.

The black grid in the picture below is the pre-filter that gets rid of the biggest particles. This is a washable filter and to clean it you just need to run it under the sink and use a light scrub brush with a little bit of soap and then let air dry before re-attaching.

filter cover

The blue filter is the polypropylene prefilter which captures bigger particles so the HEPA filter can run more efficiently. Behind this filter is the HEPA filter which blocks smaller particles. There are tabs at the top that make it easy to remove from the device when it comes time to replace it.

hepa filter

There’s also a carbon filter inside that traps odors.

The backside of this is the cold carbon filter. This is the final stage of the filtration process and will remove VOCs.

green filter

I like that the filters are all put together in one container. When it comes time to replace it, you simply take it out and put back one piece. The only real maintenance is washing the pre-filter and wiping down the outer container if it gets dirty.

My Hathaspace Smart True Hepa Air Purifier Recommendation

This is air purifier is an incredible value for the money. At just under $400 you get some of the more advanced air cleaning technology that will remove more than just air particles. It’s hard to find large room air purifiers that are this effective at this price point that will run this quietly. It is very intuitive to operate as it has an automatic mode that will detect air quality and adjust the fan as needed. There’s even a night mode that will turn off all the display lights if you keep it in your bedroom. The overall design is sleek and modern so it won’t look awkward in your living room.

As we are spending more time indoors it’s important that we have an optimal environment for health and productivity. Breathing clean air will reduce your likelihood of getting sick and just make you feel healthier and happier.

Okaysou AirMax 8L Review

Okaysou Aiir Purifier

[Tagline]

This air purifier couldn’t come soon enough. Okaysou recently reached out to me to review one of their products. They sent me the AirMax XL for free to get my opinion on how it stacks up to other brands I have tried. Currently, there are wildfires burning all over California and the air quality where I live in San Diego is very hit or miss. I invested in a Temptop Air Quality detector so that I could get real-time data on just how bad things could get. Most of the time the air quality is fair but certainly not good and despite using high-quality air filters for our house, smoke and ash still gets in through our leaky windows and doors, enough that it is irritating and results in poor sleep.

We have an air purifier in our bedroom but it struggles to keep up and so it was fun to see if the Okaysou Airmax was up to the challenge of keeping the air clean all night.

Overview of the Okaysou Air Purifier

Here’s a quick video overview of how the units works.

Ordering and Unboxing the Okaysou

My Okaysou shipped fast and arrived in the box below. No guessing on what’s inside the box here.

Okaysou Box

Inside you will find another box.

It’s nice packaging and there was no mistaking that I got the product I ordered. If for some reason you need to return it, you won’t struggle with finding a box.

Once you get through all the cardboard, plastic and styrofoam, you will find the unit itself. Before turning it on, just make sure you take the plastic off the filters inside.

How Much Does the Okaysou AirMax 8L Cost?

The retail price on this air purifier is $119.95 and you can buy it right from Amazon.

My Okaysou Findings

Less effective air filters only use a HEPA filter an a fan. Knowing this, it isn’t hard to create a makeshift filter with a furnace filter tide to the back of a box fan. But Okaysou takes it to another level. The graphic below lists out all the filters you will find in this device and what impurities they will trap.

My Okaysou AirMax 8L Findings

Once I turned the Okaysou on for the first time, I was blown away. This is rated to clean rooms around 500 square feet. Our bedroom is about 2o0 square feet so maybe a bit more than we need but is it very effective. The CADR rating on this model is 210 which means it will clean the air in a 500 sq. ft. room 3 times per hour so even faster for my room.

testing okaysou

There are 3 fan speeds on this and if you have a bigger room, you will want to use a higher speed but for my bedroom, I keep it on the lowest setting which is more than enough. At the low setting, it is quiet enough so you can still watch tv without it being annoying. If you prefer white noise, you can just increase the fan speed.

My biggest complaint about this unit and most air purifiers is that there isn’t a way to turn off the LED lights at night. I prefer my room as dark as possible and the lights will really stand out if it is close to your bed. A simple fix is just to put electrical tape over them but the ability to disable the lights would be a nice feature.

My Okaysou AirMax 8L Recommendation

This model is extremely effective at cleaning air to some of the highest standards. If you are used to a simple HEPA air purifier, this is a noticeable upgrade. Thankfully, you don’t need to spend all that much to get the benefits. At under $300 it is an incredible value. It is effective, efficient, quiet and affordable. It is an ideal choice for bedrooms, offices or any other medium-size room where you spend a lot of time. Pet owners will reap the benefits of less dander and less sneezing. But don’t just take my word for it, the Okaysou has hundreds of 5 star reviews on Amazon.

I recently received a free Molekule air purifier for review and the newest Molekule Air Mini. Clean air has a direct impact on sleep quality. If you find that you wake up sneezing or with a stuffy nose, you may want to look into cleaning up the air in your bedroom. I have tried many air purifiers and all of them clean the air with HEPA filtration technology. While these do a good job, the technology really hasn’t evolved much. That’s why I was so excited to be able to try the Molekule.

Here’s a video overview of the differences between the original Molekule and the Molekule Mini.

The Molecule is different in that it has a PECO filter which stands for Photo Electrochemical Oxidation. According to their website:

Developed over two decades by research scientists, PECO is an innovative technology that utilizes free radicals—the same radicals used to kill cancer cells—to oxidize pollutants. By using nanotechnology, PECO is able to destroy pollutants 1000 times smaller than what traditional HEPA filters can trap.

This is a strong claim and would certainly put it ahead of a HEPA filter in terms of effectiveness but I think what it really comes down to is will it improve your sleep and overall health? I put it to the test in our house and here are my findings.

Ordering and Unboxing the Molekule

Right now the only way to get this is through their official website.  There are no coupon codes for the Molekule but right now you can get a free six-month filter pack with your order. A $65 value.

After you place your order you will get an email confirmation and another email a few days later with tracking information. It will arrive in a box like the one below.

Molekule Box

I was really impressed with the care they put into packing it. It was fun to unbox. As you can see below it is protected in a white pouch which lessens the need for more plastic.

There’s really no physical setup required. Just plug it in. The filter you get in the box is an extra filter you can use when it comes time to replace it.

molecule accesories

You may have considered buying this just based on looks alone and I can’t blame you. Having another electronic box in your room is probably the last thing you want on your Pinterest board. This looks like some futuristic fuel cell with a leather strap. It is a clean, modern design that won’t look out of place.

molecule unboxed 2

Setting up the Molekule

Other reviews have a lot of complaints about the Molekule app and setup process. I found the setup to be a breeze. It could be that I received it when updates were made to the software but I didn’t have any issues.

To get it setup just download the app on the Play or Itunes store and power up the Molekule. The app will walk you through the process. Once it is setup on your wifi network, it will do an initial cleaning which can take an hour, give or take depending on your room size.

How Much Does the Molekule Cost?

This is the most expensive air purifier I have ever used. It currently retails for $799. Keep in mind though that you are getting a totally new technology that claims not only to trap but destroy pollutants 1,000 times smaller than what a HEPA filter can trap.

My Molekule Findings

I unbox lots of mattresses and any mattress made with foam will be prone to some off-gassing. Since I do this much more frequently than the average consumer, I normally have an air filter in my room. Unfortunately, they really aren’t good at eliminating volatile oganic compounds (VOCs).

The graph below shows how quickly a PECO filter, found in the Molekule will eliminate VOCs. This testing was done by the University of Minnesota and University of South Florida.

molekule vocs

You can view the full white paper here which explains the process in more detail.

The Molekule Air Mini

The Molekule mini is ideal for bedrooms or other small rooms. It uses the same PECO filter technology but in a smaller package.

Molekule Mini Box

The unboxing experience is the same and so is the build quality. The instructions are added to the box which makes setup a bit faster. One of their recommendations is to put it on your nightstand but there’s no way it would fit on my nightstand with my lamp, phone and everything else. Mine ended up on my dresser.

Molekule Unboxing 2

Again, rather than more plastic, they put the unit in a cloth bag.

Cloth Bag

Out of the box, it is basically ready to go.

Molekule mini open

The cord can wind itself underneath the unit for storage or to just get the right amount of cord to make your space neat. Again, great design by Molekule.  This cord is a two-prong rather than the three-prong on the bigger unit.

Molekule Mini Cord

There are 5 different levels for the Mini and there is currently no option for Wifi connectivity to the app but I think that may change in the near future. Below is a little video where you can hear it get louder as I increase the intensity.

At $399 the Molekule Mini is a more economical choice and if you have a small room, this would probably be the way to go.

My Molekule Air Purifier Recommendation

There are many facets to sleep hygiene, clean sheets, clean mattress, consistent bedtime, dark room, cool temperature, etc. What good is a nice mattress if it’s in a room where you are breathing polluted air? Investing in a good HEPA filter is a great start but having gone through many HEPA filters, I was really impressed with the PECO filter. After the first night my morning sneezing routing was almost completely eliminated. I now leave it on in silent mode.

One of the drawbacks is that fort he PECO filter to work its best, the light needs to be on. That can be problematic in a bedroom at night. Thankfully there is a night mode that keeps the filter running but turns the light on. I have night mode enabled but I did notice that it’s not quite as effective as eliminating any morning congestion. I think over time as I keep the filter running during the day, most of the pollutants in the room will be completely eliminated.

If you are thinking of investing in a filter, the Molekule is by far the best technology I have used and has made a real difference in my sleep quality and how I feel in the morning. While these would be great for every room of the house, they aren’t cheap and I think you will get the most bang for your buck by having one in your bedroom.

Is Molekule Better Than a HEPA Filter?

Molekule and HEPA filters are both air purification systems that help improve indoor air quality, but they utilize different technologies and have unique strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a comparison between the two:

Molekule:

  1. Technology: Molekule uses Photo Electrochemical Oxidation (PECO) technology, which involves a light-activated nanocatalyst that breaks down pollutants at a molecular level, turning them into harmless substances.

  2. Effectiveness: Molekule claims to eliminate a wide range of pollutants, including bacteria, viruses, mold, allergens, and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), that HEPA filters may not be as effective at capturing.

  3. Filter replacement: The PECO filter in a Molekule device needs to be replaced every six months, while the pre-filter should be replaced every three months.

  4. Noise: Molekule devices tend to be relatively quiet, with noise levels similar to a HEPA filter.

  5. Price: Molekule air purifiers are generally more expensive than many HEPA-based air purifiers.

HEPA filter:

  1. Technology: HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters use a dense network of fibers to mechanically capture particles in the air, including dust, pollen, and pet dander.

  2. Effectiveness: HEPA filters can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency. They are very effective at removing allergens and particulate matter but may not be as efficient in eliminating viruses, bacteria, and VOCs.

  3. Filter replacement: HEPA filters generally need to be replaced every 12-18 months, depending on usage and environmental factors. Some devices may also include a pre-filter or activated carbon filter to remove larger particles and odors, which may require more frequent replacement.

  4. Noise: HEPA filters can be relatively quiet, depending on the device and fan speed settings.

  5. Price: HEPA-based air purifiers are available in a wide range of prices, with many affordable options on the market.

In summary, Molekule and HEPA filters both have their merits. Molekule’s PECO technology may be more effective at eliminating a wider range of pollutants, while HEPA filters excel at capturing allergens and particulate matter. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on your specific needs, priorities, and budget.

Who Owns Molekule?

Molekule is a privately held company founded by Dr. Yogi Goswami, a scientist and engineer, along with his children Dilip Goswami and Jaya Rao. The company was established in 2014 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. As a private company, Molekule is owned by its founders, private investors, and potentially employees with stock options. The specific ownership structure is not publicly available, but the Goswami family is central to the company’s leadership and development.

Does Molekule Detect Mold?

Molekule air purifiers do not directly detect mold in the air; rather, they use their proprietary Photo Electrochemical Oxidation (PECO) technology to eliminate a wide range of pollutants, including mold spores. PECO works by using a light-activated nanocatalyst to break down pollutants at the molecular level, turning them into harmless substances.

While Molekule air purifiers can effectively remove mold spores from the air, they do not have a built-in sensor or mechanism to specifically detect the presence of mold in your environment. To detect mold, you may need to use a mold testing kit or hire a professional mold inspector. However, by removing mold spores from the air, Molekule air purifiers can help to reduce the risk of mold growth and improve indoor air quality.
