Eight Sleep Pod: powered water-based control
The Pod uses a cover and hub to adjust bed temperature. Our earlier Eight Sleep testing informs the value of having active control, particularly when partners have different preferences. The current Pod 6 listing describes individual-side heating and cooling; check the exact model, compatible mattress dimensions, app features, membership cost and maintenance requirements before buying.
Tradeoff: It costs substantially more than a passive fabric pad and needs electricity, space for a hub and care. Performance and sleep outcomes vary; it should not be presented as a guaranteed change to core body temperature.

BedJet 3: airflow under the bedding
BedJet uses a bedside unit and hose to move air into the bed, rather than placing water channels in a mattress cover. The manufacturer offers different setups; separate zones and an appropriate sheet can add to the total. A fan may be audible, and the cooling effect depends on room conditions. BedJet states it is not a substitute for air conditioning in very hot bedrooms.

What about a heated pad?
A heated mattress pad can warm a cold bed at a lower upfront cost than an active cooling system, but it does not cool. Compare controls, automatic shutoff, size and care instructions for the exact model. Never assume all heated pads can be washed, folded or used on an adjustable base; follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Cozy Earth describes its pad as bamboo-derived viscose with light padding. Its listing says it fits mattresses up to 20 inches, while its size chart gives specific dimensions; check the exact size and measure your mattress. The manufacturer’s care instructions include a rinse cycle without spin and low-heat or hang drying. Confirm whether you need a separate waterproof layer.
Viscose can feel smooth, but a passive fabric cannot actively set bed temperature. Its feel and warmth depend on the complete bedding setup.

Cariloha Quilted Mattress Protector
Cariloha lists a bamboo-viscose top, down-alternative batting and TPU waterproof coating. The brand describes five-sided protection across the top and four sides. That makes it a useful product to compare when you want a little quilting and a stated spill barrier together. How to choose and care for a mattress pad
- Measure the mattress. Include pillow tops and any topper, then compare the total with the manufacturer’s pocket-depth guidance.
- Check the actual protection. “Pad,” “protector” and “topper” overlap. Not all pads or protectors are waterproof, and fitted styles do not fully enclose the mattress.
- Consider feel and temperature. Quilt thickness, fill, waterproof backing, sheets and room temperature all affect the experience.
- Read the care label. Follow the exact washing and drying instructions; high heat can damage some membranes. Powered systems have their own maintenance rules.
- Review return terms. Bedding and toppers may have different policies from mattresses and may be final sale at some sellers.
If you have a split adjustable bed, check whether two Twin XL pads work better than one king and whether the layers can move independently. For spills or kids and pets, verify which sides are covered and whether the protector fits over the full mattress depth.
