Ecosa Mattress Review: Original Adjustable-Firmness Testing Restored
The Ecosa page had been reduced to a stub even though Yawnder had documented its unusual layer-flipping system, waterproof inner cover and three firmness configurations.
Three firmness configurations
Ecosa’s defining feature was the ability to unzip the mattress and rearrange/flip internal layers to change the feel. The configurations ranged from two medium-ish setups to a distinctly firmer support-layer setup.
Waterproof inner cover
Under the removable outer cover, the reviewed Ecosa used a waterproof inner barrier. That helped protect the foam itself and was unusual among boxed mattresses of its era.
Firmness testing
Yawnder photographed the bowling-ball response on each configuration. The G-7 side felt slightly softer than the alternate medium setup, while the support-layer configuration kept the ball almost entirely on top.
Who it suited
The firmer configurations made the mattress especially relevant to back and stomach sleepers, while the medium setups added more contouring without becoming truly plush.
Practical adjustability
The ability to alter firmness after purchase was the strongest reason to consider Ecosa; it reduced the risk of being permanently stuck with one feel.
Current-shopping note
Ecosa has revised its lineup and layer system over time. Verify the current model’s firmness-adjustment method and cover construction before buying.
