Beautyrest Black Original Review: Original White-Glove Hybrid Review Restored

The Beautyrest Black Original page had lost much of Yawnder’s original model-specific construction and delivery context.

White-glove delivery

The reviewed Beautyrest Black arrived full-size rather than compressed in a box. Delivery included moving and setting up the mattress in the bedroom, which was appropriate for its substantial traditional construction.

T3 pocketed-coil support

The mattress used Beautyrest’s T3 pocketed-coil system, allowing individual spring movement while supplying the deep support and responsiveness expected from the Black line.

Comfort stack

The original 13-inch model combined plush/medium comfort foams, energy foam and gel memory foam above the coil unit. That produced a medium luxury-hybrid feel rather than a deep all-foam cradle.

Cooling surface

A cool-to-touch cover and cooling-focused foam technologies were part of this generation of Beautyrest Black. Those specific branded materials have changed across later collections.

Why this is historical

Beautyrest has since reorganized and renamed the Black lineup. The restored page documents the Original model Yawnder reviewed rather than pretending it describes every current Black mattress.

Coddle Convertible Couch Review (2026): Convertible Sofa Guide

Coddle Couch Review

The Coddle convertible couch is a great option for people that live in small spaces or are on the go. That’s because it’s super easy to set up and takedown. It also is very durable and can fit around tight corners. Most importantly, it can be converted into a bed within seconds. The versatility, form factor and added features such as USB ports on each side make this a stylish and functional couch and bed that is sure to please guests. I received a free white leather couch for review from Coddle. I chose white because that would most likely show any flaws and I wanted to be sure the quality was there.

Overview of the Coddle Couch

Here’s a video overview of the Coddle Couch. As you can see, it’s incredibly easy to set up and adjust. It basically comes already setup except for snapping the legs in at the bottom. This is a solid piece of furniture.

Your Coddle Couch will arrive in a normal brown box but inside there’s a fancy box that includes instructions on how to set up the couch. You can also see that the couch is packaged with care and I didn’t notice any dents or scratches.

The only thing you need to do is take off the packaging, add the legs and flip it over.

There’s a power cord in the back that powers the USB ports, just plug that in and you’re ready to go!

Construction of the Coddle Couch

This couch is constructed similar to a quality foam mattress. The difference is that this couch has either a leather or microfiber cover but beneath that, you get layers of foam that create comfort.

PRODUCT OVERALL SETUP DIMENSION:
Sofa: 78.7″L(81.5″ leg to leg) x 40.9″W x 38.2″H
Bed: 78.7″L (81.5″ leg to leg) x 48.8″W x 20.86″H

PRODUCT WEIGHT
Seating load weight capacity: 800lbs

POWER-STRIP CORD DIMENSION
92.5″L x 1 power outlet and x 2pcs USB outlet x both sides of backrest

How Much Does the Coddle Couch Cost?

The Coddle retails for $999 but that’s before any discounts which they usually provide on their site.

My Coddle Findings

What most important with any couch or bed is how it feels. Obviously this is best used as a couch and it feels like a quality leather sofa. As you can see, the arms can be adjusted up or down, when both arms are up, the sofa functions more as a love seat. I’m 6’3 so I make the sofa look a little small.

Here it is with the arms down.

Here I am laying on the couch. The backs of the couch also go down to make a complete bed.

Here it is completely flat. I recommend using a mattress topper if you are going to have guests lying on it. Coddle makes one you can purchase with the couch.

I think it was smart that Coddle added USB and power ports to each side of the couch. While it’s great that I can power my phone, I often work on my couch and I need power for my laptop.

To be honest, I didn’t expect much in terms of quality for the price. At $999 it’s hard to get all the details right but Coddle delivered. Here’s a closer view o the stitching on the leather. I didn’t find any loose threads or missed stitches which makes me like the couch even more. It just looks fantastic and will instantly upgrade the look of any room.

My Coddle Couch Recommendation

The Coddle is the best couch and bed combo I have tried so far. I am extremely impressed with the quality and design. For $999 it is an incredible value. Best of all you get 60 nights to try it out in the comfort of your own home to see if it’s right for you. That’s still very rare for furniture to offer a free trial period like this. Although you can get white glove delivery for $149, I recommend going with the free delivery since this is so ridiculously easy to setup. If you are looking for a versatile couch that can be easily converted into a bed within minutes, this is the obvious choice. Its also just a great couch for entertaining or binging on Netflix since the arms can be adjusted as needed to accommodate you or multiple people.

Best White Noise Machines for Sleep 2026: SNOOZ, Dohm, LectroFan & Hatch

SNOOZ Original fan-based white noise machine in Cloud
Yawnder White Noise Guide · Updated September 24, 2026

Best White Noise Machines for Sleep in 2026

Four current picks for different needs: real-fan sound, simple analog control, digital sound variety and a broader bedside routine.

Affiliate disclosure: Some links on this page are affiliate links. Yawnder may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. White noise is a sound-masking comfort tool, not a treatment for insomnia, snoring or sleep apnea.

The best white-noise machine depends on what kind of sound you actually tolerate all night. A real fan produces natural, non-looping airflow noise. A digital machine can offer white, pink, brown, fan and ocean sounds from one compact speaker. A multipurpose bedside device adds light and routines but costs more.

Best premium real-fan machine

SNOOZ Original

$99.9910 volume levelsReal fan sound

SNOOZ uses a real internal fan rather than a recording. Twisting the shell changes the tone, while the controls and app give you ten volume levels. The company lists a 46–87 dBA range measured at the device and a 100-night trial.

Why buy it: natural non-looping sound with much finer control than a basic mechanical fan machine.
Know first: you are paying almost $100 for one core sound concept rather than a library.

As an Amazon Associate, Yawnder earns from qualifying purchases.

Yogasleep Dohm Classic white noise machine
Best simple real-fan machine

Yogasleep Dohm Classic

$49.99Two speedsAdjustable tone

The Dohm Classic is deliberately simple: a real fan motor produces continuous non-looping sound, and rotating the housing changes the tone. There is no Bluetooth, app, subscription or digital loop to manage.

Why buy it: half the price of SNOOZ and extremely straightforward.
Know first: it is plug-in only and offers very little beyond fan-based masking.

As an Amazon Associate, Yawnder earns from qualifying purchases.

LectroFan EVO digital white noise machine
Best digital sound variety

LectroFan EVO

$65.95 direct list22 soundsUSB powered

LectroFan EVO is fully digital and offers 22 non-looping choices, including white, pink and brown noise, fan variants and two ocean sounds. It also has precise volume control and a 60-minute timer.

Why buy it: much more tonal variety than a mechanical fan machine, including lower-frequency options.
Know first: manufacturer-direct stock can vary; compare live retailer availability.

Hatch Restore 3 sunrise alarm and sound machine
Best multipurpose bedside device

Hatch Restore 3

$169Sleep soundsSunrise alarm

Restore 3 is not the value choice if all you want is steady noise. It makes sense when the sound machine is only one part of a broader light, wind-down and sunrise routine. Core sounds and light functions work without Hatch+.

Why buy it: one device handles sound masking, bedtime cues and morning light.
Know first: it costs far more than a dedicated sound machine and does not track sleep.

Mechanical fan or digital sound?

Mechanical fanNatural, non-looping sound. Best if you already know you like steady airflow noise.
Digital machineMore colors of noise, fan tones and nature options. Better if one sound gets irritating.
All-in-one bedsideAdds light, routines and alarms. Worth paying more only if you will use those extras.

White, pink and brown noise

White noise contains broad frequency energy and tends to sound hissier. Pink noise shifts more energy toward lower frequencies and is often perceived as softer, like steady rain. Brown noise is deeper and more rumbling. There is no universal “best” color for sleep—use the sound you can comfortably ignore.

For more detail, see our pink noise guide and green noise guide.

How loud should a white-noise machine be?

Use the lowest volume that masks the disruption you are trying to cover. More volume is not automatically better. Keep the machine away from your ears and avoid using it to overpower extremely loud environmental noise.

For babies and children: use conservative volume, keep the machine away from the crib or child’s head, and follow your pediatrician’s guidance. A white-noise machine is not a reason to run high sound levels all night.

When white noise is the wrong solution

If the main noise is a partner’s habitual loud snoring—especially with gasping or breathing pauses—a louder sound machine is not the real fix. That can warrant medical evaluation. If you need private audio instead of room-filling sound, see our Best Sleep Earbuds & Headphones 2026 guide.

Travel pick: Yogasleep Rohm is currently $19.99, weighs about 3.4 oz, recharges by USB-C and offers three sound options. See our Travel Sleep hub for the full travel kit.

How we picked: We favored currently sold products that represent meaningfully different sound-machine formats, have enough official documentation to explain their tradeoffs, and connect to existing Yawnder coverage where available. We did not create artificial sleep scores or claim that sound masking treats a sleep disorder.

Hästens Vividus Mattress Review (2026): Materials, Construction & Grand Vividus Context

Hästens Vividus Mattress Review: Construction, Materials & Why It Costs So Much

The Vividus page had been cut down to a generic stub even though the older article contained substantial background on Hästens, its materials and the construction philosophy behind this ultra-luxury bed.

What the Vividus is

Vividus is Hästens’ flagship continental bed, built in Sweden using a labor-intensive combination of springs and natural upholstery materials rather than the foam-heavy construction common in modern mattresses.

The defining materials traditionally associated with Hästens include horsehair, cotton, wool and flax layered with spring systems and a wooden foundation. Horsehair is used because its curled fibers create space for airflow while remaining resilient under repeated compression.

Hand-built construction

The older Yawnder article emphasized that Vividus is produced as a craft product rather than a mass-market mattress. Multiple artisans work through the layering, stitching and finishing process, and the mattress is paired with a matching base as part of the complete sleep system.

Why Hästens is different

The company traces its roots to 1852 and originally came from a saddlemaking tradition. That history helps explain the continued emphasis on natural fibers, spring upholstery and handwork rather than molded foam components.

Vividus is not a normal “value” mattress purchase. Its appeal is craftsmanship, natural materials, customization and exclusivity. For most shoppers, the useful question is not whether it beats a mainstream mattress on price-to-performance, but whether this particular construction style and level of handwork are worth the extraordinary premium.

Current-shopping note

Pricing on Vividus and other Hästens beds can vary significantly by market and configuration, so this page intentionally avoids presenting an old dollar figure as a current quote.

Layla Weighted Blanket Review (2026): Price, Weights & Two-Sided Feel

Check LaylaCompare weighted blankets

The two-sided design is the reason to consider it

The cotton side gives you the smoother surface, while the faux-fur side is warmer and more plush. That makes Layla more versatile by texture than many bead-filled blankets, but it also means it is not the obvious choice for someone who already sleeps hot.

Weight distribution

Layla uses glass microbeads held inside hexagonal stitched pockets. The purpose of the pockets is to keep fill from migrating into one corner and to maintain a more even pressure pattern across the blanket.

What the old review overstated

Earlier Yawnder copy repeated Layla’s explanation that deep-touch pressure “causes your brain to release serotonin” and said the blanket works for ADHD, anxiety and depression. That was too strong. Current research supports a more modest conclusion: weighted blankets may reduce anxiety symptoms for some people, while results vary and sleep evidence is mixed.

Showroom note: do not assume the Layla weighted blanket is available to try at Yawnder’s Encinitas showroom. This is affiliate/review coverage; check current retail availability before making a trip.

Bottom line

Layla is worth considering for its two-sided feel and three weight choices. At the current $134 sale price it is much less expensive than Bearaby. Choose it if you like a warmer plush option; choose an open-knit blanket if airflow is the priority.

Best Weighted Blankets (2026): Weight, Warmth & Care

puffy weighted blanket

Yawnder Reviews · Updated October 8, 2026

Compare weighted blankets by construction, weight, warmth and washing. A chunky knit distributes weight through its fabric; a bead-filled blanket uses stitched pockets. The texture, drape and care burden can matter as much as the number on the label.

Weighted blanket review directory

Choose weight and dimensions together

The familiar “10% of body weight” formula is a shopping rule of thumb, not a universal medical standard. Comfort and the ability to remove the blanket independently matter more. If you are between options, a lighter starting point is usually easier to assess.

A 15 lb throw and a 15 lb Queen-size blanket do not distribute pressure in the same way. Compare the dimensions, the area resting on your body and how much hangs over the edge. Extra fabric over the side can pull a blanket away from you.

For shared beds, separate smaller blankets can let each person choose their own weight and warmth. Do not choose a heavier model simply because it covers a larger bed.

Knit vs bead fill: warmth and movement

Knitted blankets use dense loops to create weight. There are no loose beads to shift, and the open weave leaves air gaps. They can stretch during washing and drying, so their care instructions matter.

Bead-filled blankets hold glass, ceramic or similar material in stitched pockets. Small, well-distributed pockets can keep the fill more even; damage to seams can allow it to move. A plush surface or duvet-style cover adds warmth around the weighted insert.

Cooling fabric describes a passive material feature. It does not guarantee that a heavy covered blanket will feel cool in a warm room. Compare cover thickness and room temperature alongside the “cooling” label.

Before washing, check the machine’s capacity

A blanket’s dry weight is not its washing weight. Wet fabric can put much more load on the machine. Check the blanket instructions and appliance capacity; if the load exceeds either, use an appropriate large-capacity service.

Separate insert care from cover care. Puffy’s removable cover can be machine washed, while its insert calls for hand washing. Bearaby’s drying routine differs from Hush Plush: Bearaby directs low tumble drying rather than hanging, while Hush directs flat drying. Use the exact model’s label.

Manufacturer references: Bearaby Cotton Napper, Puffy care FAQ, Layla care, and Hush Plush.

Safety and evidence

Never use a weighted blanket for an infant. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against weighted blankets and weighted sleep clothing for babies. For older children, people with limited mobility, respiratory problems or anyone unable to remove the blanket independently, get individualized guidance before use.

Recent reviews suggest weighted blankets may reduce anxiety symptoms in some clinical populations, but study quality and methods vary. Evidence for insomnia and objective sleep improvement remains mixed. A comfort product does not guarantee deeper sleep or replace treatment.

Leesa Adjustable Base: Best Competitive Value for Comfort

leesa adjustable bed review

The adjustable base from Leesa is a price competitive base that works seamlessly with the Leesa mattress and most other online mattresses. A queen size currently retails for $1,045 but there are often discounts available. It is only available through the Leesa website and will ship to your house in 3-10 business days. There is an optional white glove delivery service for an extra $100 where they will set up the base in your bedroom. This is done through an independent contractor that will call you to schedule delivery and setup.

Setting up the Leesa Adjustable Base

If you don’t opt in for the white glove delivery, setup is easy. The base itself is heavy, near 150 lbs. so if you have help to move it into your bedroom the rest is simple.

The adjustable bed comes in a box like the one below.

Upon opening the box you will find the base wrapped in plastic to keep it clean.

Once you get it out of the packaging you just flip the base upside down and screw in the legs. The legs can be adjusted for different heights by pushing in the peg then sliding up or down.

You also need to insert a bolt on each side to make is to the two sides don’t move up or down. This can all be found in the included instruction manual.

Overview of the Leesa Adjustable Base

Here’s a video overview of the capabilities of the base. There is no massage feature but it does have a zero gravity button and LED lighting underneath which is great if you have to get out of bed at night and don’t want to turn on the lights.

My Adjustable Base Findings

Overall this is a great looking adjustable bed. It also has a relatively quiet motor so if you need to make adjustments at night you have less chance of waking your partner. The remote is fairly simple and is great for people who want a simple interface and all the standard features.

Leesa Adjustable Base remote

Here’s a picture of the base by itself. The two white strips towards the foot of the bed are actually little grips called micro-hooks, sort of like velcro that help prevent the mattress from sliding around. You also have the bar at the end of the bed but the grips help prevent the mattress from moving from side to side.

leesa adjustable bed

Here’s a picture of the Leesa mattress on the base. But like I said, this will work with most mattresses that come in a box.

Leesa on adjustable bed

If you buy a king size adjustable base, you are actually getting 2 twin xl bases that you put side by side. The advantage is that it is much easier to move into your house and you can operate each side independently. If you go this route you will also want to buy two twin xl mattresses.

twin xls

Some people don’t like the idea of having two separate mattresses so you can just buy standard king mattress. If you do this you can sync both of the twin xl bases so they work together off one single remote.

Overall this is a great adjustable bed. If you are looking for a solid and reliable adjustable base this is it. It doesn’t have a massage feature or the ability to save your favorite position but if you want that you will pay quite a bit more. I do appreciate that you can raise or lower the height of the bed by adjusting the feet. You can go low profile or make it higher if you are a tall person like me. In the video, I have it at the tallest setting which makes it about 13 inches off the ground, add in the 10-inch Leesa mattress and you are sitting about 23 inches from the ground.

I especially like that this comes with a 1o0 night trial. If you were to buy an adjustable base from Amazon you would only get the standard 3o day return policy and have to ship the base back to Amazon which will mean considerable shipping costs. With the Leesa base, returns are completely free.

Even if you don’t opt for a Leesa mattress, their adjustable bed should be top of mind when looking to outfit your bedroom.

Frequently Asked Questions About Leesa Adjustable Base: Best Competitive Value for Comfort

Is the Leesa Adjustable Base worth it for its price?

The Leesa Adjustable Base offers competitive value for its price, especially with frequent discounts, making it an attractive option for an affordable entry into adjustable beds. For example, a queen size is often priced around $945, which is presented as attractive in the market. It combines useful features with solid construction at a reasonable cost.

Who is the Leesa Adjustable Base best for?

The Leesa Adjustable Base is best for individuals seeking an affordable and user-friendly adjustable bed experience, particularly those who value quiet operation and a straightforward remote control. It's also ideal for those wanting pressure relief with its zero gravity feature and convenient nighttime illumination from LED lighting.

What are the downsides of the Leesa Adjustable Base?

One downside of the Leesa Adjustable Base is that it lacks a massage feature, which some competitors offer. Additionally, the base weighs nearly 150 lbs for a queen, meaning setup might require a second person if white glove delivery is not chosen.

How easy is it to set up the Leesa Adjustable Base?

Setting up the Leesa Adjustable Base is straightforward if you forgo the white glove delivery, though having a second set of hands is recommended due to its weight. The process involves attaching legs and inserting bolts, which is clearly explained in the included instruction manual. Yawnder's testing noted the ease of this process for standard installation.

Is the Leesa Adjustable Base good for preventing mattress slippage?

Yes, the Leesa Adjustable Base is designed to prevent mattress slippage through its integrated micro-hook feature and a retention bar at the foot of the bed. These elements work together to keep the mattress securely in place, minimizing side-to-side movement during adjustments.

Where can I try the Leesa Adjustable Base in person?

The Leesa Adjustable Base is available solely through the Leesa website, meaning it cannot be tried in person at a physical showroom. However, Yawnder's San Diego showroom can offer insights into the general benefits of adjustable bases, even if this specific model isn't on display.

Molecule Sheets Review

Molecule Sheets

Frequently Asked Questions About Molecule Sheets Review

Is the Molecule Sheets worth the price?

Yes, while Molecule Sheets may seem pricey, their quality and durability make them a worthwhile investment for comfort and rest. The blend of cotton and Tencel, along with their robust construction, ensures they are a long-lasting addition to your bedding collection. They are adaptable for year-round use, further justifying the cost.

Who are Molecule Sheets best for?

Molecule Sheets are best for hot sleepers or anyone who tends to sweat during their sleep. The Tencel component effectively absorbs sweat, keeping you cool and dry throughout the night. This feature makes them an ideal choice for maintaining an ideal sleep temperature.

What are the potential downsides of Molecule Sheets?

The primary downside of Molecule Sheets is their pricing, which might be a consideration for some budgets. For example, a Queen set is priced at $199 and a King at $219. However, the article highlights their quality and durability as factors that can offset this initial investment.

Are Molecule Sheets good for hot sleepers?

Yes, Molecule Sheets are good for hot sleepers due to their unique blend of cotton and Tencel. The Tencel acts as a moisture sponge, effectively absorbing sweat to keep you cool and dry. This helps prevent overheating, allowing for a more restful night's sleep.

How does the comfort of Molecule Sheets compare to other Tencel sheets?

Based on hands-on experience, Molecule Sheets offer a superior and softer feel compared to Tencel alone. The 52% cotton and 48% Tencel blend results in a smooth texture that retains its quality without unraveling or pilling, an issue often found with other Tencel options.

Where can I try Molecule Sheets in person before buying?

While the article primarily discusses purchasing Molecule Sheets through their official website, it also mentions a 30-night sleep trial, allowing you to test them risk-free at home. For local residents, Yawnder provides a San Diego showroom in Encinitas, CA, for exploring various sleep products, though Molecule Sheets specifics for in-person testing would require direct inquiry.

Molecule sheets for hot and sweaty sleepers

Why a cotton-Tencel blend helps

Cotton is comfortable and familiar but holds moisture once you sweat. Tencel lyocell, made from wood pulp, moves moisture off the skin faster and dries quicker. Blending the two aims to keep the hand-feel of cotton while cutting the clammy phase that wakes hot sleepers in the second half of the night. If your problem is waking up damp rather than simply warm, moisture handling matters more than any cooling claim.

Build the whole sleep surface for temperature

Sheets are only one layer. A waterproof plastic-backed protector, a dense memory foam topper or a heavy comforter will trap more heat than breathable sheets can release. For hot sleepers the order of impact is usually: room temperature, then mattress and topper, then duvet weight, then sheets. Fix them in that order and the sheets get to do their job.

Fit and depth

Measure mattress depth including toppers before choosing a size, and check the pillowcase style you want. As with any premium set, buying two sets and alternating them spreads the wear and means you always have clean sheets during laundry day.

Care for a Tencel blend

Wash cool, use a gentle detergent and avoid bleach and fabric softener — both are hard on lyocell fibres. Tumble dry low or line dry; high heat is the main cause of premature pilling and shrinkage in blended sheets. Wash before first use to soften them and to set the finish.

Frequently asked questions

Are Tencel sheets cooler than cotton?

Tencel generally wicks and releases moisture faster than cotton, so it feels cooler and drier once you start to sweat. Pure cotton percale is still very breathable, but slower to dry.

Can you bleach Molecule sheets?

Avoid bleach on lyocell blends. Use a gentle detergent and treat stains promptly with an oxygen-based product instead.

Do cooling sheets fix night sweats?

They help with comfort, but persistent night sweats can have medical causes such as hormonal changes or medication side effects. Speak to a doctor if they are frequent or severe.

What temperature should the bedroom be?

Most sleep guidance points to somewhere in the mid-60s Fahrenheit for adults. Getting the room right does more for overheating than any single bedding upgrade.

Sleeping With Pets: Pros, Cons & Sleep Tips

Sleep with Pets

Frequently Asked Questions About Sleeping with Pets: Must-Have Tips for Better Sleep!

Is sleeping with pets healthy?

Sleeping with pets can be healthy for many people, though caution is advised for certain conditions or age groups. The Mayo Clinic found that healthy adults sleeping with dogs in their room achieved an 83% sleep efficiency, and even 80% when the dogs were in the bed, which is still considered satisfactory.

Who is sleeping with pets best for?

Sleeping with pets is best for individuals without pet allergies or asthma who find comfort and security in their pet's presence. Many people report that the rhythmic breathing and warmth of a pet can be soothing, aiding those who struggle with sleep.

What are the downsides of sleeping with pets?

The main downsides of sleeping with pets include potential sleep disruption, especially if pets move a lot, and health concerns for those with allergies or asthma. It is also not recommended for young children, particularly those under six, to sleep alone with pets without careful assessment by parents.

Can pets help with insomnia?

Yes, pets can enhance sleep quality and may help individuals with insomnia. Experts suggest that the soothing presence, rhythmic breathing, and warmth of a pet can create an atmosphere conducive to sleep, with some finding it more effective than pharmaceutical options.

Is sleeping with pets good for children?

Experts advise caution regarding children sleeping with pets, recommending against children aged six or younger sleeping alone with pets. Parents should assess a child's maturity and ability to care for the pet, and avoid allowing pets near newborns due to their vulnerable immune systems.

Where can I learn more about creating a comfortable sleep environment, even with pets?

You can visit Yawnder's showroom in Encinitas, CA to speak with sleep experts and explore mattress options that might accommodate co-sleeping with your pets. They can offer advice on mattresses that are durable and easy to clean, which can be beneficial for pet-friendly households.

What sharing the bed with a pet actually costs you

Roughly half of American pet owners let a dog or cat sleep in the bedroom, and a large share share the bed. The research is genuinely split, which is why the honest answer is "it depends on your sleeper and your animal."

Measured with activity monitors, people who sleep with a dog in the room tend to keep decent sleep efficiency. Move the dog onto the bed and efficiency drops modestly — small on average, but meaningful if you are already a light sleeper. Cats are the harder case: they are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk, and a 5 a.m. zoomie session lands right in your most fragile sleep window.

The concrete costs:

  • Movement and micro-arousals. Repositioning, scratching, dreaming twitches and jumping on and off the bed all produce brief awakenings you may not remember but do feel the next day.
  • Heat. A dog against your legs is a furnace. Core temperature needs to fall for consolidated sleep, and overheating is a common hidden reason people wake sweaty at 3 a.m.
  • Allergens and dander tracked into the sheets, which matters a lot if anyone in the bed has allergic rhinitis or asthma.
  • Space and position. Working around an animal is how people end up in awkward positions that leave a shoulder or lower back sore.

What you get in return

The benefits are real and mostly psychological, which does not make them less valuable. Owners consistently report feeling safer, calmer and less lonely with a pet nearby, and for people with anxiety or those living alone, that reduction in bedtime arousal can outweigh a few extra awakenings. Routine helps too: a dog who needs a last walk at 9:30 gives you a consistent wind-down and wake time, and consistency is the strongest sleep lever there is.

Practical middle ground

  • Room, not bed. A good dog bed or a cat perch on the floor keeps the companionship and removes most of the movement and heat. This is the single best compromise.
  • Foot of the bed, own blanket. If the pet stays on the mattress, give them a defined spot and a washable throw to catch hair and dander.
  • Bigger bed, better bed. Queen or king, and a mattress with low motion transfer so a dog turning over doesn't travel across to you.
  • Protect the mattress. A zippered, washable protector handles accidents, drool and dander, and it is far cheaper than the mattress.
  • Wash bedding weekly in hot water and vacuum the bedroom, especially with allergies in the house.
  • Feed and exercise earlier. A tired dog and a cat that has been played with and fed before your bedtime are much less likely to run the 5 a.m. shift. Automatic feeders help with dawn hunger.
  • Keep it consistent. Sometimes-allowed is worse than never-allowed; intermittent rules produce whining and scratching at the door.

When the pet should be out of the bed

Move the animal off the mattress — and ideally out of the room — if anyone in the bed has significant pet allergies or asthma, is immunocompromised, is an infant, or has a wound or recent surgery. Talk to your doctor if you snore loudly or wake gasping; blaming the dog is common, but apnea needs its own evaluation. And see a vet if your pet is restless, panting or pacing at night, since that can signal pain or a medical problem rather than a behavior issue. This is general information, not medical or veterinary advice.

FAQ

Is it unhealthy to sleep with your dog?

For most healthy adults, no. The measurable sleep cost is modest. Allergies, asthma, a compromised immune system or an infant in the bed change the answer.

Do cats disrupt sleep more than dogs?

Often yes, because their activity peaks near dawn and they move more unpredictably during the night.

Will letting a pet in bed cause behavior problems?

Not by itself. Inconsistency does. Pick a rule and hold it.

How do I keep my bed clean with pets on it?

A washable protector plus a dedicated pet throw, weekly hot-water laundry and regular grooming handles most of it.

My dog wakes me at 5 a.m. every day. What now?

Shift exercise and the last meal later, use an automatic feeder, keep the room dark, and resist rewarding the early wake with attention — that is what cements the habit.

Lucid Hybrid Mattress Review: Original 12-Inch Amazon Hybrid Testing Restored

The Lucid Hybrid page had been reduced to a generic no-score stub even though Yawnder tested the 12-inch charcoal/aloe hybrid and opened it to inspect the spring unit.

What we tested

Yawnder received the 12-inch Lucid Hybrid, which used a taller coil unit and thicker comfort stack than the 10-inch version.

Medium-firm feel

Despite being marketed on the plusher side, the reviewed mattress felt closer to medium-firm. The upper foam compressed modestly rather than creating a deep memory-foam sink.

Foam and pocket coils

The construction combined charcoal-infused comfort foam, aloe-infused transition foam, base foam and pocketed coils with a foam perimeter.

Bounce and motion

The spring unit added real bounce and some motion transfer, while the foam layers softened the response compared with a traditional innerspring.

Cooling

Less-deep sink plus airflow through the coil unit helped the mattress feel relatively temperature neutral for a foam-topped budget hybrid.

TV in Bedroom: The Risky Choice for Sleep Quality

tv in the bedroom

Frequently Asked Questions About TV in Bedroom: The Risky Choice for Sleep Quality

What are the main downsides of having a TV in the bedroom?

The primary downsides of a bedroom TV include diluting the room's purpose for sleep and causing cognitive confusion that makes it harder for your brain to associate the bedroom with rest. This can also lead to reduced melatonin production due to light exposure, which interferes with your ability to fall asleep.

Is watching TV in bed affecting my sleep quality?

Yes, watching TV in bed can significantly disrupt your sleep quality by exposing you to bright light that suppresses melatonin production, the hormone crucial for sleep regulation. The presence of a TV transforms the bedroom from a sanctuary for sleep into an entertainment space, making it harder for your brain to wind down.

How does light from screens impact sleep?

Light exposure from screens, including TVs and smartphones, within two hours of bedtime can significantly reduce the brain's melatonin levels, making it more difficult to fall asleep. Melatonin is the hormone responsible for signaling to your body that it's time to sleep, and its suppression creates resistance to sleep.

What is the ideal environment for optimal sleep?

The ideal environment for optimal sleep is a tranquil and quiet sanctuary, free from distractions like televisions and other electronic devices. Research consistently shows that environmental factors, particularly in the bedroom, are crucial for preventing sleep disorders and deprivation.

Why is it important for the bedroom to be solely for sleep?

It is important for the bedroom to be solely for sleep to prevent cognitive confusion, ensuring your brain consistently associates the space with rest rather than entertainment. When a TV is present, your brain struggles to make this distinction, hindering your ability to drift off when needed.

Are there historical habits that show a shift in TV viewing harmful to sleep?

Yes, traditional TV viewing habits, where families gathered at specific times, have been replaced by individual, fragmented viewing experiences across multiple devices and rooms, including bedrooms. This shift means people are engaging with screens more frequently and in sleep environments, contributing to poorer sleep quality.

The honest case against the bedroom TV

Sleep researchers generally advise keeping the bedroom for sleep and sex, and a television works against that for three reasons that have nothing to do with willpower.

Light. A bright screen a few feet from your face in the last hour before bed suppresses melatonin release and pushes your body clock later. The effect is dose-dependent — brightness, distance and how long you watch all matter.

Time. The bigger cost is usually not biology but arithmetic. "One more episode" is engineered by autoplay, and it reliably eats 30 to 60 minutes of sleep opportunity. Surveys consistently link bedroom screens with later bedtimes and shorter total sleep, and the association is strongest in children and teens.

Arousal. Thrillers, news and anything with a cliffhanger raise alertness at the exact moment you want it falling. Falling asleep with the TV on also means light and shifting volume continuing through your lightest sleep stages, which fragments the first half of the night.

There is a fourth, quieter issue: conditioning. Sleep responds to association. If the bed is where you watch three hours of television, your brain stops reading "in bed" as a sleep cue — which is the same mechanism CBT-I uses on purpose to fix insomnia.

Kids and teens

This is where the evidence is most consistent. A TV in a child's bedroom is associated with less sleep, later bedtimes and more difficulty settling, and pediatric guidance is straightforward: keep screens out of the room where kids sleep, and park devices outside the bedroom overnight. It is far easier to never install the TV than to negotiate it out later.

If the TV is staying

Plenty of people watch in bed and sleep fine. If that is you, or you are not willing to give it up, reduce the damage:

  • Set a hard stop 30 to 60 minutes before lights out, and do the last stretch with a book or podcast instead.
  • Turn off autoplay and use a sleep timer so the set is not running at 2 a.m.
  • Dim everything. Drop the screen brightness at night, enable the TV's dark/eco mode, and never watch with the room fully dark and the screen at full blast.
  • Watch reruns, not cliffhangers. Familiar, low-stakes content does not hijack attention the way a new thriller does.
  • Watch sitting up, not lying down, so the bed keeps its association with sleep. Better yet, watch in a chair and get into bed only when you are done.
  • Keep the volume low and consider a steady sound source (a fan or noise machine) as the thing you actually fall asleep to — it is constant, so it does not jolt you.
  • Mount it high and away so the light is not directly in your line of sight from the pillow, and keep charging phones out of the bedroom.

Fix the room, not just the screen

If you are already rearranging the bedroom, the changes with the biggest payoff are cheap and unglamorous: blackout curtains, a room temperature in the mid-60s Fahrenheit, breathable bedding, and a mattress that supports your main sleep position without heat buildup. A TV is a smaller variable than a bed that leaves your lower back aching at 4 a.m.

FAQ

Does falling asleep with the TV on hurt sleep quality?

It can. Changing light and volume through the night fragment lighter sleep stages, even when you don't fully wake. A sleep timer solves most of it.

Is a TV worse than a phone in bed?

Usually the phone is worse. It is closer to your eyes, brighter at that distance, interactive and endlessly scrollable.

Do blue-light settings fix the problem?

Night modes reduce the blue component but not overall brightness or the time cost. They help slightly; they do not make late watching neutral.

What about white noise or a fan instead?

A steady, unchanging sound is a much better thing to fall asleep to than dialogue, because there is nothing to follow and no volume spikes.

Should kids have a bedroom TV?

Pediatric guidance says no. The link between bedroom screens and shorter sleep in children is one of the more consistent findings in this area.

Purple 3 Hybrid Premier Review: Legacy Hands-On Guide

Purple 3 mattress

Legacy model — no longer in Purple’s current lineup

The Purple 3, later called the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, is an older model. This page preserves Yawnder’s hands-on testing and original videos, but old prices, delivery terms, trial details, and warranty language are not current buying guidance.

Quick verdict

The Purple 3 combined three inches of Purple’s flexible grid with individually pocketed coils. In our original hands-on review, it felt firmer than the Purple 4, very responsive, temperature neutral, and more supportive at the edge than the original all-foam Purple.

Who it suited: back sleepers and some combination sleepers who wanted the Purple grid without the deeper cradle of the former Purple 4. Who should skip it today: anyone expecting a current warranty-backed model under this exact name.

What Yawnder actually tested

Yawnder purchased a Purple 3 and evaluated the physical mattress. The original review documented delivery and setup, feel, a 14-pound bowling-ball sinkage comparison, motion transfer, interior construction, temperature behavior, and perimeter support. Three original Yawnder videos are retained below.

This is an archived hands-on review, not a new lab score. We do not convert old impressions into a made-up 2026 rating.

Purple 3 mattress
The Purple 3 mattress photographed for Yawnder's original hands-on review.

Purple 3 video review

Our original overview shows the exact model and the distinctive feel of its three-inch grid-and-coil construction.

Archived construction

The reviewed Purple 3 used a three-inch Hyper-Elastic Polymer grid over a pocketed-coil support unit, with foam around the perimeter for edge stability and foam beneath the coils. The stretch-knit top let the grid flex under concentrated pressure while the coils supplied lift and response.

That combination created a feel unlike conventional memory foam. The grid buckled where pressure was strongest and remained more supportive around it. Materials, dimensions, and cover specifications here describe the archived sample only.

Feel, pressure relief, and cooling

Responsive and firmer

The mattress was bouncy and easy to move on, but our sample felt considerably firmer than the former Purple 4. It was a better match for back sleepers and occasional side sleepers than for people wanting a deep side-sleeping cradle.

Airy grid surface

The open grid left substantial room for airflow, and the surface did not hold heat like dense contouring foam often can. The unusual grid sensation remained noticeable and was not universally appealing.

Motion-transfer comparison

The Purple 3 was lively, but its independent coils and pressure-responsive grid kept motion more localized than its bounce might suggest. These two original clips show the Purple 4 comparison and the Purple 3 test separately.

Purple 4 motion transfer

Purple 3 motion transfer

Pros and cons of the Purple 3

What worked

  • Distinctive pressure-responsive grid feel
  • Excellent airflow through the open grid
  • Responsive surface that was easy to move on
  • Pocketed coils kept motion reasonably controlled
  • Foam perimeter improved edge stability over the original Purple

What to consider

  • Firmer and less cradling than the former Purple 4
  • The grid texture and response were polarizing
  • Very heavy and difficult to move
  • Old prices and policies are obsolete
  • The exact model is no longer in Purple’s current lineup

Who should consider a current alternative?

If you liked the Purple 3’s basic idea, compare current Purple models by grid depth, coil construction, edge design, and published firmness—not by assuming a current bed is a direct one-for-one replacement. Side sleepers should pay particular attention to pressure relief; back sleepers should focus on alignment and how far the grid collapses through the hips.

For used or leftover Purple 3 inventory, inspect the law tag and condition, ask whether the mattress was a return or floor model, and get any return or warranty promise in writing.

Final verdict

The Purple 3 was a memorable hybrid: cooler and more responsive than conventional foam, firmer than the former Purple 4, and better supported at the edge than the original Purple. Our real testing and videos still make this page useful for owners and secondhand researchers. For a new purchase, use the findings as a comparison point and evaluate Purple’s current models and current policies instead.

Purple 3 FAQ

Is the Purple 3 still sold?

Not as a current model under that exact name. It later appeared as the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and has since left Purple’s current lineup.

Was the Purple 3 softer than the Purple 4?

No. In Yawnder’s original comparison, the Purple 3 felt considerably firmer and the Purple 4 hugged the 14-pound bowling ball more deeply.

Did the Purple 3 sleep hot?

Our sample slept temperature neutral. The open grid and coil system provided substantial airflow compared with dense foam constructions.

Are the old price, trial, and warranty still valid?

No current purchase should rely on those archived figures. Verify the exact seller, product condition, return terms, and warranty in writing.

Are the three videos on this page duplicates?

No. They are the original Purple 3 overview, the Purple 4 motion-transfer comparison, and the Purple 3 motion-transfer test.

How to read an older mattress review like this one

Two things go stale in a mattress review: the product and the price. Materials and construction usually change on a two-to-four-year cycle, and pricing changes monthly. What does not go stale is the shape of the feel — whether a bed was built for side sleepers, how it handled edge support, whether it slept warm. Use the observations above for that, and the brand's current product page for specs and cost.

Latex and organic alternatives worth comparing

If the organic latex direction is what interests you, cross-shop before committing: our Avocado Green vs Zenhaven comparison covers the two best-known organic latex hybrids, and the Yawnder comparison engine will line any two beds up on feel, cooling and support.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Affluent Rest still available?

It is not part of the current Sweet Zzz lineup we can verify on the brand's site. Check the live product pages before ordering; this review is retained as a record of the bed as we tested it.

Does a lifetime warranty mean a lifetime mattress?

No. A limited lifetime warranty covers defects such as excessive sagging beyond a stated depth, not normal comfort loss, and it typically requires original proof of purchase and a properly supportive base. Read the depth threshold — that number is what the claim actually turns on.

Layla Pillow Price

The Layla pillow is a premium pillow that is priced at $129 for a queen size. However, the Layla pillow is often on sale, so you can usually find it for a lower price.

Layla Pillow Trial and Benefits

The Layla pillow comes with a 120-night trial period. This means that you can try the pillow for 120 nights and return it if you’re not satisfied with it.

The Layla pillow has a number of benefits, including:

  • It is adjustable, so you can choose the perfect loft for your needs.
  • It is made with a combination of memory foam and shredded memory foam, which gives it a unique feel that is both supportive and comfortable.
  • It is breathable, so it will keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
  • It is hypoallergenic, so it is ideal for people who suffer from allergies or asthma.
  • It is machine-washable, so it is easy to keep clean.

Layla Pillow Construction

The Layla pillow is made with a combination of memory foam and shredded memory foam. The memory foam provides support, while the shredded memory foam provides comfort and breathability. The pillow is also covered in a soft and breathable fabric.

The Layla pillow is not only the perfect pillow for your Layla mattress, it’s a memory foam pillow that pairs well with most mattresses. It’s priced at $99 and similar to the Layla mattress, it also is infused with copper giving it antimicrobial properties.  You can tell a lot of thought went into the design of this pillow which gives it an almost universal feel.

Ordering Your Layla Pillow

Currently, you can only purchase the Layla Pillow exclusively through the Layla website. It will arrive about a week after ordering. Unlike many pillows, this one actually comes with a free trial period. You can try it for 120 nights and if you don’t like it, return it for a full refund. That includes shipping to you and free return shipping something not often found with other pillow purchases.

Here’s a video overview of the Layla pillow with me on the Layla mattress. As you can see the cover of both the pillow and mattress are the same.

Construction of the Layla Pillow

The pillow is a standard/queen size the measurements are as follows:

24″ wide x 18″ tall x 4″ deep

The Layla pillow is made with a kapok/memory foam fill. Kapok is a fiber that comes from the seeds of a Kapok tree. It has a silky feel that makes for a great filler since it is a natural, renewable material. Combining this with shredded memory foam makes the pillow feel softer and lighter.

What are the other benefits of Kapok?

Kapok is hypoallergenic.
Sustainable
Lighter than cotton
Resists clumping
Down like feel

The cover of the Layla pillow is made with a copper infused cover. This makes the pillow sleep cooler due to copper’s high conductivity. Copper is also antimicrobial so your pillow will stay fresh, longer.

My Layla Pillow Findings

The Layla pillow has a medium loft. That means that it is thick enough to accommodate all sleepers. This is the first pillow with foam and kapok that I have tried. There are many latex/kapok pillow on the market which have a more bouncy feel. I think the foam used in this pillow pairs well with the kapok because you get the familiar down like feel and all the conforming and pressure relieving benefits of memory foam.

Best of all this pillow comes with a trial period so there’s nothing to lose with giving it a try. Pillows you buy on Amazon or other sites often require you to pay return shipping. With Layla they cover the return shipping you’re not out any money.

This pillow does NOT feel like the solid foam pillows of yesteryear. Think of the Layla pillow as a next generation foam pillow that leverages one of the best natural fibers, Kapok with shredded foam to make the pillow breathable, squish and comfy. The added benefit of a copper infused cover means you can get many years out of this pillow.

Overall, the Layla pillow and the MyPillow are both good choices for sleepers who are looking for an adjustable pillow that provides good support and comfort. Nest Bedding Cooling Mattress Protector Review (2026)

Nest Bedding Mattress Protector

The Nest Bedding Cooling Mattress Protector has been discontinued, but customers can purchase the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector instead, which is a better option.

The Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is made with a unique phase-change material that absorbs and dissipates heat, keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the night. It also has a soft, breathable cover that is gentle on the skin and allows for airflow.

The Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is also waterproof and dust mite resistant, so you can rest assured knowing that your mattress is protected from spills, stains, and allergens.

Here is a comparison of the two mattress protectors:

The Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is a better option than the Nest Bedding Cooling Mattress Protector because it offers more features and benefits at a comparable price. It is also backed by a 10-year warranty, which gives you peace of mind knowing that your purchase is protected.

If you are looking for a cooling mattress protector that can help you sleep cooler and more comfortably, the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is the best option available.

The Nest Bedding cooling mattress protector is an affordable and effective way to make your bed a little cooler. This mattress protector incorporates phase change technology that makes it cool to the touch and draws heat away from your body while you sleep. This is a great choice for people that sleep hot. A queen size currently retails for $129.00 while the comparable  Malouf Ice Tech is currently selling at $279.

Overview of the Nest Cooling Mattress Protector

This mattress protector is only available through the Nest Bedding website. It should arrive to your door about a week after ordering. One of the highlights of this product is that the packaging is gorgeous. It feels like you are unboxing an iPhone. Here’s a picture of the box.

Nest Mattress Protector

Cool Mattress Protector

Below is a video that shows some of the highlights of the cooling mattress protector.

Benefits of the Nest cooling mattress protector.

Below are some of the benefits as listed from the Nest Website

  • Protects top and sides of the mattress
  • Liquid-proof yet breathable
  • Stops allergens and dust mites
  • Cooling
  • Fits mattresses up to 18″ deep
  • Industry Leading 100-night guarantee.

My Mattress Protector Findings

This mattress protector will sleep cooler than a conventional mattress protector and given the price it’s not that much more to pay. Below is a video shot with my infrared camera to show how quickly heat dissipates. I found this to be just as effective as the Malouf brand.

This is also waterproof and machine washable so you get all the benefits of a regular protector. When comparing the Nest protector to the Malouf protector, I found that the Malouf protector was a bit thicker and also more slippery. By that I mean your sheets slide around on top of the protector. This will lead to fitted sheets coming loose faster. Since it is thicker it will take away from the original feel of your mattress.

My Recommendation

I highly recommend mattress protectors in general because they not only keep your mattress clean and looking new, they also prevent dust mites from entering and reduce allergy issues. A major complaint with traditional mattress protectors is that they sleep hot. Really old or cheap mattress protectors will have a layer of vinyl which don’t breathe at all and trap heat. This mattress pad has a breathable membrane as well as cooling phase change technology that can keep you cooler than your original mattress.

There are now many mattresses on the market that have a cooling phase change cover built into the mattress, however, if you cover with a mattress pad that doesn’t have this technology or is not breathable, it totally negates the effectiveness. It’s better to get the mattress that has the most comfort for your needs then add something like this cooling protector if you find it is sleeping to hot.

Frequently Asked Questions About Best Cooling Mattress Protectors

Is the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector worth it?

Yes, the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is worth it for its advanced cooling technology and comprehensive protection features. It utilizes phase-change material to absorb and dissipate heat, ensuring a consistently cool sleep surface. This protector also offers waterproof and dust mite resistant properties, backed by a 10-year warranty.

Who is the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector best for?

The Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is best for hot sleepers and individuals with allergies who need both advanced cooling and robust protection for their mattress. Its soft, breathable cover and phase-change material are designed to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. It is also an excellent choice for those looking for a long-lasting and durable protector, given its 10-year warranty.

How does the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector compare to the discontinued Nest Bedding option?

The Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector has emerged as a superior alternative to the Nest Bedding option, offering even better cooling capabilities. While both used phase-change technology and provided waterproofing and dust mite resistance, the Malouf protector has been noted for its more consistent coolness. Our team at the San Diego showroom found the Malouf offers enhanced performance for hot sleepers.

What are the downsides of the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector?

One potential downside of the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is its slightly thicker design, which some users report can cause fitted sheets to slip. This characteristic might not be ideal for those who prefer a very snug fit for their bedding. However, for sleepers who enjoy a plush feel, this thickness may be appealing.

Is the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector good for hot sleepers?

Yes, the Malouf Ice Tech Cooling Mattress Protector is excellent for hot sleepers due to its advanced phase-change material and breathable cover. This technology actively absorbs and dissipates heat, effectively keeping the sleep surface cool throughout the night. During our evaluations at Yawnder, it consistently demonstrated superior temperature regulation compared to many traditional protectors.

Cool Buddy Cooling Mattress Pad Review

Cool Buddy mattress cooler
Short answer

The Cool Buddy Air Conditioned Mattress Pad is an individual temperature control system designed to cool or warm your bed by circulating water through a thin pad under your sheets. It is best for hot sleepers, those with night sweats, or individuals experiencing menopause, offering targeted cooling without high energy costs.

Cool Buddy Cooling Mattress Pad Review: quick answers

What is a Cool Buddy?

The Cool Buddy is an air-conditioned mattress pad system that circulates chilled or warmed water through a thin pad placed under your sheets. It provides individual temperature control for a comfortable night's sleep.

How does the Cool Buddy work?

The Cool Buddy unit actively chills or warms a gallon of water, then circulates it through a mattress pad. This process pulls excess body heat away from you, transferring it to the water, which is then re-chilled and recirculated.

Is the Cool Buddy good for hot sleepers?

Yes, the Cool Buddy is specifically designed for hot sleepers, individuals experiencing night sweats, or those going through menopause. It provides targeted cooling to help you sleep more comfortably.

How much does a Cool Buddy cost?

A Cool Buddy mattress pad system currently sells for $259. This price point makes it an affordable option compared to some competitor cooling systems on the market.

Does the Cool Buddy make noise?

The Cool Buddy unit produces a quiet hum during operation. While generally subtle, individuals sensitive to ambient noise might notice it, which could be a slight trade-off for its cooling benefits.

Where can I find Cool Buddy reviews?

You can find a comprehensive review of the Cool Buddy Cooling Mattress Pad on Yawnder.com, detailing its features, performance, and suitability for various types of sleepers.

If you’re a hot sleeper or maybe going through menopause, there are some new prodcuts coming out to give you genuine releif. One of those products is the Cool Buddy. I recently received a free Cool Buddy mattress pad which is designed to cool and warm your bed. It is done by running water through a thin grid that you place underneath your sheets. Water is circulated so that it stays cool or warm depending on your preference. A Cool Buddy is currently selling for $259. This is considerably less expensive than the ChiliPad, a longstanding competitor. For a newer no-subscription option, see our Navien OptiSleep review.

Overview of the Cool Buddy

The Cool Buddy is a relatively small unit that you place by your bedside to cool or warm your bed. If you order from Amazon it qualifies for Prime delivery so should arrive in a few days. It comes in a box like the one below.

Cool Buddy Box

Here’s a description of the product according to their Amazon listing:

This listing is for one Cool Buddy CB-CW-1 box set including a cooling unit, a large 55″ x 63″ mattress pad, and a remote control. This pad size is recommended for cooling two people on a King or Queen bed. How can the Cool Buddy help you sleep better and save money? First and foremost, let me be upfront and honest….if you are a hot sleeper, the best sleep of your life will probably come from a very expensive mattress and your air conditioner cranked down to about 55 degrees. If money and environmental concerns are no problem for you, that is the way to go!! If, however, you would like to sleep cool without paying $500+ a month for electricity, the Cool Buddy may be just the product for you. The idea is extremely simple…rather than cooling your entire house to frigid temperatures 8+ hours a night, the cool buddy only cools you. This cuts electricity consumption from thousands of watts an hour down to about 8, meaning you can run it all night for well under a penny of electricity and even reduce the wear and tear on your homes HVAC system. Here is how it works. Using the physics of evaporation, the Cool Buddy CB-C-1 control unit actively chills about a gallon of water 7-12 degrees below room temperature. For example, In Houston, I typically have my homes thermostat set at 76, and I typically see the cooling loop water at about 68 about 20 minutes after turning on the unit. This chilled water is then circulated through a thin mattress pad that pulls excess body heat away from you, transferring it to the water which is then run back through the chiller before being recirculated all night long. The physics are simple, the engineering is simple, and the product is simple, which is how we can sell it to you at such an incredible price.

As noted in the description the pad does not cover the entire mattress. Instead you place it towards to top of the bed so that it cools your chest and torso. Below is a picture of the Cool Buddy on my king size mattress.

Cool Buddy Mattress Pad

How to Use the Cool Buddy

I didn’t find any instructions for the Cool Buddy but I really didn’t need them. Here’s everything you get out of the box. Not really many pieces to this.

cool buddy pieces

To get started you need to connect the hoses to the pad and then to the unit that circulates the water. Below is a picture of the front of the unit.

Front of Cool Buddy

Here’s the back of the cool buddy where you connect the hose. Note that there is a plug for the hot water inlet. You can pull this out and put it in the cold water inlet if you want to switch to the warm setting.

Cool Buddy Back

To connect the hose you just slide them on. They are tight enough that they shouldn’t come lose.

Cool Buddy Hose

This is what the control panel looks like. You also get a remote to control it but I don’t think it requires much tweaking after you turn it on. It’s also important to note that the unit should sit higher than the pad for it to work at its best.

Cool Buddy Control Panel

My Cool Buddy Findings and Recommendations

There’s no doubt the Cool Buddy works. Below is a video shot with my infrared camera that shows the cooling water running through the grid of the Cool Buddy.

Here’s the actual video where I put my hand over the grid while the water is running:

In conclusion. Ths is a great solution for women experiencing hot flashes from menopause or anyone in general who just sleeps hot. The pad itself will firm up your mattress so there are some tradeoffs there but if you find yourself waking up constantly because of heat, this may be worth it. To minimize the feel of the pad underneath, you can add a mattress pad over it but just make sure not to add too many layers as it will negate the cooling effects. Over time you should get used to the feel.

The motor on the cooling unit will make some noise but it is a white noise that should help cancel out other noises at night. There is also a timer on the system so if you forget to turn it off it will automatically shut off after a certain amount of hours so you don’t wrek the motor.

This whole system is priced under $300 which is the best priced water cooling mattress pad I have found. If you buy off Amazon you can take advantage of the 30 day trial they have for products and it is Prime eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cool Buddy Cooling Mattress Pad Review

Is the Cool Buddy Air Conditioned/Heated Mattress Pad worth it for hot sleepers?

Yes, the Cool Buddy is an excellent choice for hot sleepers and anyone sensitive to heat during sleep. It actively cools water by 7-12 degrees below room temperature, providing a refreshing sleep environment without the high energy costs of cooling an entire room. We've seen its effectiveness firsthand in our testing here at Yawnder.

Who is the Cool Buddy best for?

The Cool Buddy is best for individuals who experience night sweats, those sensitive to heat, or women going through menopause. It provides personalized temperature control, allowing users to customize their sleep experience for optimal comfort. Its affordability also makes it a great option for budget-conscious shoppers compared to more expensive alternatives.

How does the Cool Buddy compare to other cooling mattress pads like ChiliPad?

The Cool Buddy offers a significantly more affordable solution compared to competitors like ChiliPad, retailing for $259 while ChiliPad can cost up to $599. Zinus Mattress Topper Review

Zinus swirl gel mattress topper

Deciding between getting a new mattress and just a mattress topper depends on various factors, including the current condition of your mattress, your personal comfort preferences, and budget constraints. Here’s a guide to help you make an informed decision:

  1. Age of Your Mattress: A typical mattress lasts 7-10 years. If yours is within or past this age range, it might be time for a new one.

  2. Mattress Condition:

    • Sagging: If your mattress has noticeable dips or sags, especially in the areas where you sleep most, a topper won’t fix the underlying issue. A new mattress might be in order.
    • Springs: Can you feel the springs poking through? If so, a mattress topper might provide temporary relief, but it’s a sign that your mattress is reaching the end of its life.
    • Lumps: Uneven surfaces or lumpy areas can make for an uncomfortable sleep. A topper might help in some cases, but often a new mattress is the better solution.
  3. Comfort & Firmness: If your mattress is still in good shape but just a little too firm or soft for your liking, a mattress topper can adjust the firmness without the need for a completely new mattress.

  4. Allergies & Hygiene: Over time, mattresses can accumulate allergens like dust mites. If you’ve kept it for many years and suffer from allergies, consider a new mattress. However, using a mattress protector can help keep your new mattress cleaner for longer.

  5. Sleep Quality: If you’re experiencing poorer sleep quality, waking up with aches and pains, or finding it difficult to get comfortable, it’s essential to discern if it’s the mattress or other factors like stress or health issues. If it’s the mattress, determine if its condition or firmness is the issue to decide between a topper or a new mattress.

  6. Budget: Mattress toppers are generally more affordable than buying a new mattress. If you’re on a tight budget but need a temporary solution to enhance comfort, a topper might be the way to go. However, investing in a good mattress can provide longer-lasting comfort and support.

  7. Mattress Warranty: Check if your mattress is still under warranty. Some warranties might be voided if you use certain types of toppers. Also, if it’s failing due to manufacturing defects and is still under warranty, you might get a replacement.

  8. Temporary vs. Long-Term Solutions: Mattress toppers can be a great temporary solution to enhance comfort, but they typically don’t last as long as mattresses. If you’re looking for a long-term solution, investing in a new mattress might be wiser.

  9. Type of Topper: If you’re leaning towards a topper, consider the material and thickness. Memory foam, latex, feather, and wool are popular choices, each with its own benefits.

In conclusion, assess the current state of your mattress and weigh the pros and cons of each option concerning your needs and budget. If your mattress is old, sagging, or causing discomfort, it’s probably time for a new one. If you’re looking for a change in firmness or a temporary comfort boost, a mattress topper might be the answer.

I bought a Zinus Swirl Gel Memory foam topper, 2 inch to see how it would affect my mattress. I put this topper on the new Zinus Cooling Gel Mattress,  12 inch. This mattress is a medium firm feel as listed on their website but I found it to be a little too firm so adding one of their toppers might be a good solution.

You can buy the Zinus Swirl Gel memory foam topper direct from Amazon. It is currently selling for $54.99.

Here are some of the highlights of the topper:

  • 2 inches of cool gel memory foam for ideal sleeping comfort
  • Air flow pattern for cool support
  • Green tea extract and castor natural plant oil naturally eliminate odor-causing bacteria
  • Only the highest Quality memory foam – memory foam is CertiPUR-US certified for durability, performance, and Content
  • Worry Free 5 year limited Warranty

You can also buy this Zinus topper in the following sizes.

1.5″ $39.99
2″ $54.99
3″ $69.99
4″ $109.99

Notice that if you go up to a 4″ the construction changes. Here are the construction details of the 4″ mattress.

  • 1 inch of cool gel memory foam for ideal sleeping comfort
  • 3 inches of air flow high density support foam provides cool support
  • Green tea extract and castor natural plant oil naturally eliminate odor-causing bacteria
  • Only the highest Quality memory foam – memory foam is CertiPUR-US certified for durability, performance, and Content
  • Worry Free 5 year limited Warranty

The construction needs to be different or at least should be different on a thicker topper because if you don’t have a dense foam support base, you will lose alignment and sink into the topper too much.

My Zinus Mattress Topper Findings

As always, Amazon will deliver your mattress topper lightning fast since it is Amazon prime eligible. I received mine in 2 days and it arrived in a compact box. Note that the topper was not shrink wrapped but it was wrapped. That may be different with the 4 inch topper though.

Here’s what the topper looks like on my bed.

Here’s another shot but closer up so that you can see more of the peak and valley construction.

Zinus Swirl foam topper

Below is a video that shows how the topper reacts. It recovers fairly quickly.

My Zinus Mattress Topper Recommendation

Mattress toppers are good if your mattress is structurally sound underneath. A mattress topper cannot solve issues with a sagging mattress or a mattress that just doesn’t give you proper support. What it can do though is soften it up a bit to make it more comfortable and to extend the life of your existing mattress.

I particularly like this 2 inch topper because it softened my mattress just a bit more. If you go too thick such as a 4 inch topper you can either make it too soft or lose some of the support that your mattresses was designed for. I think the sweet spot for mattress topper thickness is between 2-3 inches. Going less than 2 inches really doesn’t do much unless you are a really light person.

The box for this 2 inch topper from Zinus was small enough where if I wanted to return it, it would be fairly easy to do and since the topper didn’t come shrink-wrapped it would be easy enough to get back in the box, unlike compressed mattress or topper.

In conclusion, if you have a mattress that still gives you proper support but you are just looking to make it a bit softer, definitely check out the Zinus Swirl Gel Foam topper. The peak and valley construction allows for more breathability and feels great!

Yes, its "cool gel memory foam" and "air flow pattern" are designed to provide a cooler sleeping experience.

How does the 2-inch Zinus topper compare to the 4-inch Zinus topper?

The 2-inch topper consists entirely of cool gel memory foam, while the 4-inch version includes a 3-inch layer of high-density support foam beneath a 1-inch gel memory foam layer.
