What Restore 3 actually does
Restore 3 combines light, audio and timing into a bedtime routine. You can configure an Unwind sequence in the Hatch Sleep app, use sleep sounds overnight and set a sunrise alarm for the morning. Hatch designed the current hardware so the routine can then be run from the device itself rather than requiring you to pick up your phone at bedtime.
The four physical buttons are a meaningful change. Older smart bedside devices often sound appealing until every adjustment sends you back into an app. Restore 3 still uses the app for customization, but nightly control is much closer to a normal bedside clock.
You do not need Hatch+ for the basics
Hatch says Restore 3 includes core sleep sounds, light options, sunrise alarm, rest reminder and several sunset options without an ongoing Hatch+ membership. Hatch+ expands the content library and adds additional experiences.
Restore 3 is not a sleep tracker
This distinction matters because Hatch now sells two visually similar bedside products with different jobs. Restore 3 is for routines, light and sound. The newer Hatch Sleep Clock adds contactless sleep tracking, personalized insights and recommendations. Hatch currently lists Restore 3 at $169 and Sleep Clock at $249.
If you want a calm phone-free bedtime routine, Restore 3 is the simpler device. If you specifically want nightly data without wearing a ring or watch, Sleep Clock is the Hatch product designed around that use case.
What you can use without the app at bedtime
Sunrise alarm: why people buy it
A sunrise alarm gradually increases light before the scheduled wake time instead of relying only on a sudden sound. Some people find that style of wake-up less jarring than a phone alarm. It is still a preference tool, not a guarantee that light alone will wake every sleeper reliably.
Restore 3 also pairs that light with customizable alarm audio, so you are not choosing between a silent light and a conventional buzzer.
Restore 3 vs Hatch Sleep Clock
For the tracking-focused model, see our full Hatch Sleep Clock review.
Choose Restore 3 if you want the lower-priced bedside routine device and do not care about sleep tracking. Choose Sleep Clock if contactless sleep data is the reason you are shopping in the first place. Both avoid a traditional screen in the bedroom, include sleep-oriented audio and offer a sunrise alarm, but only Sleep Clock adds tracking and personalized sleep insights.
Restore 3 vs Loftie and other smart alarm clocks
Restore 3 leans heavily into light, audio and the bedtime routine. Loftie’s appeal is more traditional clock behavior plus audio/content without the same light-first emphasis. Our updated Best Smart Alarm Clocks 2026 guide compares the current options by what problem you are actually trying to solve.
What about Restore 2?
Restore 2 is older hardware. If you already own one and it works, there is no automatic reason to replace it. The clearest Restore 3 upgrade is the redesigned physical-control experience. If you are shopping new today, though, we would compare current Restore 3 pricing rather than anchoring on leftover Restore 2 deals.
