How Did Cushion Lab Start?

cushion labe office chair

Cushion Lab was founded in 2016 by a group of engineers and designers who wanted to create comfortable, supportive cushions using advanced materials and modern design techniques. They recognized that many people suffer from discomfort and pain due to sitting or sleeping in the wrong position for extended periods of time, and they set out to create cushions that would alleviate these problems. The company started with a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $100,000 in funding, which allowed them to bring their innovative cushion designs to the market. Since then, Cushion Lab has continued to grow and expand their product line, always with a focus on providing high-quality cushions that improve people’s comfort and well-being.

The Cushion Lab Deep Sleep Pillow

In the world of pillows, I believe there’s no such thing as too many. That’s why I adore my job, which allows me to test various sleep-related products, from a breathable waffle knit oversized blanket to a mattress topper with the perfect balance of firmness and support. While many of these products end up as extra guest bedding, the best ones find a permanent spot on my bed – just like Cushion Lab’s Deep Sleep Pillow, which I discovered on Instagram. Although I’m usually skeptical about social media-promoted products, I’m thrilled I took a chance on this one, as it now claims a permanent spot atop my bed.

Upon unboxing, the Deep Sleep Pillow was unlike any other I’d experienced before. Its dual-density memory foam construction is firmer than down yet incredibly soft and plush. The pillow comes with a removable and machine-washable Freshface nylon-and-spandex cover, which emulates the desirable characteristics of silk pillowcases. If you prefer a different look, fear not! The pillow fits seamlessly into any standard-sized pillowcase, with zippered, buttoned, back closing, or envelope style cases recommended for optimal results.

I tend to browse my phone while lying on my back before sleeping (I know, a bad habit) but eventually become a stomach sleeper with side-sleeper tendencies throughout the night. The Deep Sleep Pillow’s contoured design caters to all sleeping positions with its high and low neck supports and side-sleeper bolsters, providing a cushioned cradle in every position, even on my back. I wasn’t a fan of sculpted pillows before, but the Deep Sleep Pillow has converted me.

Priced at $135, the Deep Sleep Pillow might be more expensive than the average pillow, but its versatility makes it worth the investment – especially when on sale for just $85. Currently, you can save up to 40% and enjoy free shipping on this and other pillows during Cushion Lab’s Presidents Day Sale. Sleeping on this pillow offers such relief that I sigh every time I change positions. I haven’t experienced any recent shoulder or neck pain, and I wake up feeling as refreshed as if I were on vacation. The Deep Sleep Pillow truly lives up to its name!

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Getting water on your pillow may sound like the last thing you would want but not in this case. For those in need of some serious neck support and neck pain relief, the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow might interest you. Especially considering that waterbase pillows are clinically shown to improve sleep, as well as reduce neck pain overall but don’t worry; there will be more on that later.

mediflow waterbase pillow

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is a polyester pillow with a water base attached on the bottom. Sleep seekers are able to fill the water base to their preferred amount (up to 5 liters of water at a maximum) to reach their desired level of pillow firmness. Mediflow operates within the US and the pillow is also manufactured within the United States. A single pillow retails for $49.99 on Amazon, and a set of 2 retails for $79.99, allowing you to save at least $20. This pillow has a 4 out of 5 star review on Amazon, based on 3,000+ reviews. That being the case, I knew I had to see if the hype was real.

  • Firmness can be customized easily from soft to medium to firm
  • A bit expensive given the materials and construction
  • Free shipping through Amazon Prime
  • Made in the USA
  • Looks like a traditional pillow with a hidden unique twist
  • 30 day satisfaction guarantee, 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects

Overview of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Below is a video unboxing, demo and review of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow. It has a nice starting point to begin with, in terms of firmness. I would say that without any water at all, that the pillow has a medium firm feel.

Construction of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Size : Only available in 1 universal size

Dimensions: 20″ x 28″ Jumbo size fits standard or queen cases

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Findings

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow looks like any old pillow until it’s turned to the back, where the water chamber is. Getting acquainted with the technology is a bit of a funny feeling because the concept is so unique.

mediflow waterbase chamber

Opening the cap on the waterbase was easy, and the blue nozzle that comes included in the packaging was actually designed to help in this regard. So for anyone with long nails, or weak hands, fear not.

mediflow waterbase pillow where to pour water

Mediflow provides you with a flow chart that is meant to serve as a guide on how much water you should be using. I found that the easiest way to fill the pillow was by reusing a 1 liter bottle from an empty bottle of water. A full liter isn’t sufficient enough. You will need at least 2 liters (which is considered to provide soft firmness) to feel any substantial difference.

mediflow waterbase pillow filling chart

Pouring water into the waterbase was simple and kind of fun but I do suggest to do this slowly. I ended up with a small spill myself from looking away for just a moment. How you hold the nozzle will dictate how slowly or how quickly the pillow takes the water.

Once you’re done pouring your desired amount of water into the water base chamber of the pillow, comes the important step of removing the air pocket. This is pretty important, so as to avoid having both air and water in the pillow- which can cause issues when pressure is being applied to it, like there will be when you’re sleeping on it. When putting the cap back onto the waterbase, it is suggested that you use the blue nozzle to close it and tighten it. They include a diagram with the packaging to show you how to do this most effectively.

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Recommendation

The reason I am most impressed with the pillow is because there was actually a clinical study conducted to research the effectiveness of waterbase pillows. The study was published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and can be found on pubmed.gov, a US National Library of Medicine, sharing findings from the National Institutes of Health. That specific study can be found here.

The conclusion of the study entitled “Cervical pain: a comparison of three pillows” found that:

“The water-based pillow was associated with reduced morning pain intensity, increased pain relief, and improved quality of sleep.”

The other two pillows that it was compared to was the subject’s usual pillow and a roll pillow. Below is a screenshot of the actual study conducted:

The study alone made me feel that trying the MediflowWaterbase Pillow would be a wise experiment for someone with cervical pain or general neck tension and stiffness
.

The common symptoms of cervical degenerative disc disease is having neck pain and stiffness. That being the case, people with this type of particular health issue, need to take precautions on how they sleep, in terms of both mattresses and pillows.

On another note, some online reviews from people who have used the pillow, or are currently using the pillow, mention the possibility of the pillow leaking. This means how you tighten the cap of the waterbase chamber is especially important. Keep in mind to make use of the nozzle that comes with the pillow.

Pillows are recommended to be washed every 3 months so I think if you were to wash this pillow, it would be best to hand-wash it. However, over time that may affect the functionality of the pillow overall. Pillows are recommended to be replaced every 6 months so that’s something to also think about but Mediflow’s one year warranty on manufacturer defects can at least provide some comfort if any issues were to arise within that 1 year window.

Overall, I think the pillow is a really interesting and creative find. Knowing that a clinical study was conducted, even if on a relatively small sample size (41 individuals, but specifically with cervical issues) can shed some light on what this type of waterbase pillow can provide for individuals both with and without health issues.

If you’d like to give the pillow a shot yourself, you can find it here on Amazon.

Best Memory Foam Pillows: The 5 Memory Foam Pillows You Need to Know About

Recently updated on December 7th, 2022 at 07:04 pm

If you’re looking for the best memory foam pillow, you have lots of choices. The list below breaks down the best memory foam pillow into categories. The first memory foam pillows were a solid dense foam block not all that much different from the mattress. Eventually contouring was introduced for neck support. Today, these pillows are made to feel more like traditional down pillows but with some key advantages. Cooling gel, phase change covers, shredded foam and Tencel are just some of the new technologies in memory foam that give you much better comfort.

Nest Easy Breather Pillow $85

nest easy breather pillow

The Easy Breather Pillow from Nest Bedding is made of a blend of shredded foam and fiber. This gives the pillow a traditional down pillow feel and weight. The cover is very breathable and elastic so that it works with the filling inside. These pillow are stuffed very generously to accommodate side sleepers but what set’s them apart is that they have a zipper where you can take out the filling until you get just the right amount of loft. This is a huge benefit to stomach and back sleepers where having less loft is ideal. This pillow is extremely popular and gets rave reviews.

Over the past few years, more mattresses are incorporating foam into their construction. The reason being is that memory foam is a such a wonderful material for pressure relief. This same trend is occuring with pillows which is sparking new innovation and upping the comfort game. These memory foam pillows are the best of hundreds that I have tried.

Most Talked About Memory Foam PiIllow
My Pillow $49.95

mypillow review

When it comes to the My Pillow people either love it or hate it. While I’m not impressed with the marketing gimmicks and neither is the Better Business Bureau, there’s no denying that the My Pillow has a unique feel. The foam used in the My Pillow is more of a traditional foam than a memory foam but because it is cut into tiny pieces, they collapse and provide excellent support. The pillow is also very breathable because of this. The My Pillow is also washable which is something you can’t do with most memory foam pillows.

If you have never tried a memory foam pillow or have been turned off by them from a bad experience with an older generation memory foam pillow, it’s time to give memory foam a second chance. Foam has really come a long ways in the past 5 years and I expect even more improvements down the road.

Sweet Night is a mattress and bedding company that offers exceptional value. I reviewed the Sweet Night Mattress and it is one of my favorite budget picks. Since then, Sweetnight has broadened its offering of products to include pillows. I was recently sent a set of the Melody down alternative pillows and the original cooling gel foam adjustable pillow. Below are my findings.

Ordering Your Sweet Night Pillow

You can order these pillows directly through their website. Shipping takes about a week and they will arrive in a box like the one below. I received tracking details for my order so I knew exactly when to expect it.

sweet night pillow box

To save on shipping costs and to keep the pillows clean, they are vacuum-sealed in plastic, inside the box. Once you open them from the plastic, they will come to life and start to inflate. If you want to get rid of any lingering off-gassing from the foam or packaging, you can put them in a dryer with no heat and a fabric softener.

Here’s what they look like before the plastic is opened. Similar to a roll-packed mattress, they will start taking in air and take shape quickly.

Here’s a picture of the pillows just a few minutes after opening them. The foam pillow on the left looks distorted because it is filled to the max. Unless you have an unusually large frame, I recommend taking some of the foam out so you can get the perfect height.

There are some nice added details with these pillows including zippers so you can access the material inside and adjust as needed. Zippers are on both the foam and down alternative pillows.

pillow zipper

I didn’t expect to find such clean-cut pieces of foam in this pillow. They are nice, neat cubes. Cheaper pillows will use remainder foam from mattresses and shred it. This pillow has a nice consistent material.

Other touches include a stitched label so you can identify it among all your other pillows. The cooling cover on The Original is a nice benefit but I really enjoy this pillow for the ability to customize the height and the overall feel. It’s an excellent choice for side sleepers.

I recommend the Melody down alternative pillow for people looking for a more traditional feeling pillow with the ability to take out some of the filling if need be. These would also make great guest pillows just given their universal appeal. These pillows also include a nice zipper.

My Sweet Night Pillow Recommendation

Sweet Night continues to provide quality products at a good value and these pillows are no exception. For under $45 you get 2 quality down alternative pillows. The Original pillow currently retails for $46.60 in a standard size and when you compare it against some of the more popular brands it leads the pack in terms of price. Sweet Night products come with a 100-day full refund policy. So, if for whatever reason you don’t like these pillows, you can facilitate a return through their website.

Definitely consider adding some Sweet Night pillows to your bedroom.

The Pillow Cube is the latest pillow to take social media by storm and is the ultimate, dedicated side sleeper pillow. The premise is that it is designed solely for side sleepers that need adequate support without the bulk of a regular pillow. It is a memory foam pillow with an ultra-soft yet supportive foam. I admit I thought it was a great idea but in reality, it does have some drawbacks. Namely the price. For this review, I purchased the Pillow Cube Pro for $119.99. If that’s too much, you can always go with the Pillow Cube classic for $69.99 but I think it’s worth it to get the Pillow Cube Pro. My favorite pillow c ube by far is the Pillow Cube Ice Cube Pillow. It sleeps extremely cool and feels amazing.  The Pillow Cube has grown on me and I’m finding that people are really taking to it. Below are my findings from ordering to sleeping on it.

Overview of the Pillow Cube

We sell the Pillow Cube at the Yawnder store in San Diego. You can also order it online through the Pillow Cube website.  It is a big change from a traditional pillow in that it is a cube instead of a flat rectangle. By placing your shoulder at the edge of the pillow cube, you get better support than a traditional pillow which is unsupportive at your shoulders even though it will still provide pressure relief for your head.

If you have gone through as many bed pillows as I have, you will come to appreciate the construction of the Pillow Cube, especially if you have broad shoulders and spend the majority of your night side sleeping.

You may have come to this site because you are curious if the Pillow Cube actually works as advertised based on their viral video below. I have no idea who the woman in the Pillow Cube commercial is but she makes a compelling case.

Reasons to Buy the Pillow Cube

The Pillow Cube has gained popularity among people who are looking for a pillow that offers more support and can help alleviate neck pain, shoulder pain, and other sleep-related discomfort. Here are some reasons why people like the Pillow Cube:

  1. Support: The Pillow Cube is designed to provide support to the neck, shoulders, and head. Its unique shape allows users to maintain a comfortable sleeping position and helps reduce pressure points.

  2. Comfort: Many users find the Pillow Cube to be very comfortable due to its firmness and the way it cradles their head and neck.

  3. Customizable: The Pillow Cube comes in different sizes, so users can choose the one that best fits their sleeping position and body type.

  4. Breathable: The Pillow Cube is made of a breathable foam material that helps regulate temperature and prevent sweating.

  5. Quality: The Pillow Cube is made of high-quality materials that are durable and long-lasting.

Overall, the Pillow Cube offers a unique sleeping experience that many people find to be comfortable and supportive, which can lead to better sleep and fewer aches and pains.

Pillow Cube By Sleeping Position

Side Sleepers

The Pillow Cube also offers a version specifically designed for side sleepers. Side sleepers generally require a higher and firmer pillow to maintain proper alignment of the neck and spine, and the Pillow Cube Side Sleeper edition is designed to provide just the right amount of support and comfort for this sleeping position.

The Pillow Cube Side Sleeper edition is 12 inches wide, 24 inches long, and 5 inches high, making it higher and more supportive than the standard Pillow Cube. The extra height helps to fill the gap between the neck and the mattress, keeping the spine in a neutral position.

Back Sleepers

The Pillow Cube is available in several sizes, including a version that is specifically designed for back sleepers. Back sleepers generally require less height in their pillow to maintain proper alignment of the neck and spine, and the Pillow Cube Back Sleeper edition is designed to provide just the right amount of support and comfort for this sleeping position.

The Pillow Cube Back Sleeper edition is 12 inches wide, 24 inches long, and 2.5 inches high, making it a lower profile option than the standard Pillow Cube. The lower profile helps to maintain a neutral spine position and reduce strain on the neck muscles.

Additionally, the Pillow Cube Back Sleeper edition is made of the same high-quality foam material as the standard Pillow Cube, which provides firm support and helps to cradle the head and neck. The foam is also breathable, which can help regulate temperature and prevent sweating during sleep.

If you are a back sleeper looking for a pillow that offers firm support and can help alleviate neck and shoulder pain, the Pillow Cube Back Sleeper edition may be a good option for you.

Stomach Sleepers

The Pillow Cube is generally not recommended for stomach sleepers because this sleeping position puts the neck and spine in an awkward position, which can lead to discomfort and pain. Stomach sleepers usually require a flatter and softer pillow that won’t elevate their head and neck too much, and that will allow them to breathe comfortably.

The standard Pillow Cube and its other versions may be too high and firm for stomach sleepers, which could result in neck and shoulder strain. However, some stomach sleepers may find the Pillow Cube to be comfortable if they prefer a firmer and more supportive pillow.

If you are a stomach sleeper, it is recommended to look for pillows that are specifically designed for your sleeping position. You may want to consider a thin and soft pillow or a pillow that is designed to be adjustable, so you can customize the height and firmness to your liking.

Ordering the Pillow Cube

If you have been of Facebook or Instagram lately, you have probably seen ads for the Pillow Cube. Their website has a funky 90s retro vibe to it. When I ordered mine, it arrived in less than a week but depending on demand it may take longer. Thankfully they will let you know if they are expecting delays before you place your order.

Here’s a picture of the Cube Pillow Pro in the box before I opened it. It is folded in half to fit in the box. The packaging is great and it ships quickly.

cube pillow box

Here it is out of the box and unfolded and you can see that it has a rectangular shape in comparison to the original which is cube-shaped.

cube pillow packaging

This pillow has a zippered cover has is presumably washable. It does not come with a pillowcase which is a shame because it is an odd-shaped pillow. You can put it in a regular pillowcase but it will look funny. You can buy a pillowcase for an extra $20 which will just add to the overall price. I decided to just use a regular pillowcase. No matter what, it’s going to look a little odd on your bed.

cube pillow zipper

Here’s a picture of the inside of the pillow. It is a solid piece of foam. There really isn’t much information on the construction of this pillow such as the type and density of foam used but it is a squishy foam so make sure you get the right height of pillow for your frame. I went with the 6 inch which is the thickest size they make. Even though its solid foam, it doesn’t sleep hot. If you do tend to sleep hot, I recommend going with the side sleeper ice cube pillow which has cooling fabric and will sleep 10 degrees colder than the regular cube pillow.

cube pillow inside

How Much Does the Pillow Cube Cost?

You can choose between the Pro which is $119.99 or the Original Cube Pillow which is $69.99. Pillow Cube offers a refund within 60 days of purchase but will charge you a $20 return shipping fee so it’s not a free trial. You also have the option to upgrade to the Ice Cube Pillow which has a cooling cover. There are many pillows out there that claim to have a cooling cover but the Ice Cube Pillow beats them all. It stays cool much longer and just looks fantastic. I also recommend purchasing their custom-fit pillowcases that are square-shaped so that they look neat on your bed and keep your pillow clean. Don’t worry, the cooling technology will still work through the pillowcase.

How Does the Pillow Cube Work?

Most pillows are rectangular with a knife-edge or gusset edge. The Cube Pillow is all 90-degree angles. The reasoning behind this design is that you can bring your shoulder right up to the thick edge of the pillow for optimal neck support. Anyone with neck pains can attest to the benefits of a supportive pillow. With the cube pillow, you get the best support for your head and neck to take the pressure off your shoulders. There are other side sleeper pillows on the market with a similar concept but instead of a cube shape, they cut a crescent into the pillow to tuck your shoulder into.

My Pillow Cube Findings

The Cube Pillow is certainly not for everyone. In fact it is designed specifically for side sleepers. If you try and sleep on your stomach it will be way too thick and you will have the same issue while trying to sleep on your back. I think this is a novel idea for a pillow and it really solves a common issue for side sleepers where the pillow is usually too thin and doesn’t provide adequate support for your head. With this pillow, you no longer have to scrunch up your pillow and constantly adjust it at night to get the proper loft. Although at this price it does seem a bit expensive but honestly, it’s a small price to pay to alleviate neck pain every morning.

If you are looking for a better night’s sleep, you should first asses your pillow situation. A new pillow can dramatically change how you sleep. The Pillow Cube comes in 3 different sizes to ensure you get the proper

A right pillow is essential for a good night’s sleep. As essential as your mattress and sheets. Without the right pillow supporting your head, neck, and shoulders, you will end up with neck cricks and all the aches and pains associated with improper spinal alignment. Where the mattress supports your body from the head is supported by the pillow. Both of these sleep products work synergistically to properly align your spine and support its natural curve.

Without the proper elevation and cushion for your head and neck, you will be hard-pressed to get comfortable on any surface. However, just knowing the importance of a good pillow does not make it easy to buy one. There are so many varieties in the market catering to every preference possible that it gets almost impossible to make the right choice. Chances are more that you will end up buying one that looks pretty or feels softer than what you want.

IDLE Sleep Memory Foam Pillow Detailed Review

Pros

Cons
High breathability

Expensive

Good temperature regulation

No returns and warranty
Ideal for sensitive skin

Design

IDLE Sleep memory foam pillow is built to last for a few years without complaint. It comes in a bamboo velour cover that helps in keeping the pillow clean and is useful for storage and transport. The cover makes for a much better deal than the average pillows that come compressed in a plastic case.

It features the same standard rectangular design of an average pillow with curved edges featuring double stitching for added strength. It does emit an off-gassing smell when unpacked, and you might have to leave it in the open for a few days for the smell to dissipate. This smell is because of the special foam material used in its built and is not harmful.

The pillow is designed with small and minute holes within the memory foam that allows for higher air circulation and aid in temperature regulation.

Comfort and Support

It comes as one flat chunk of memory foam and is suitable for all types of sleepers. The support is provided by the personalized conformability feature of the pillow. The company employs a special formula in its gel-infused memory foam that allows for this foam to be cooler and plusher than others. It also allows it to retain the original shape in a much better fashion than others.

The pillow takes on the shape of your head and neck and allows you to sink into it for the perfect combination of comfort and support. This helps in properly elevating your head to the level that is required for good spinal alignment. You will face no pressure point problems while using this pillow. It goes one step further by taking care of all the nooks, crannies, and crevices of your head and neck for the best-contoured support.

Temperature Regulation

The coolness of IDLE Sleep memory foam blends with the high breathability factor incorporated within the pillow to provide good ventilation. It uses the innovative and trademarked “Zone” technology to achieve this. Usually, foam is not suitable for hot sleepers since it tends to sink with your weight and trap the body heat within that cocoon.

IDLE sleep takes good care of this by providing adequate channels for proper air circulation, making it ideal for both hot and cold sleepers. With the high level of ventilation, the trapped body heat tends to dissipate a lot quicker than with normal memory foam pillows. This means that you will never experience excessive sweating when using this pillow or come awake because of a hot, sticky, and uncomfortable feel. This is also great for the skin. Your pores will breathe easily because of good ventilation, and you will not have excessive oiliness leading to nasty skin problems.

Size

You have two size choices with IDLE Sleep pillows. You can either opt for the queen size or the king size. Queen size provides adequate space for an average adult, and king size would be a better choice if you like sharing your pillow with your partner or are a restless sleeper who likes to toss around in their sleep. The dimensions are mentioned below:

Size

Dimension
Queen

16x 29 Inches

King

16x 35 Inches

Material

The IDLE Sleep pillow is made of the finest quality in house memory foam that is layered with gel. Memory foams are generally preferred by people because of its soft texture and sinking feeling. The gel-infused memory foam that is used to make the IDLE Sleep pillow is even softer and fluffier than these average foams.

The gel in the memory foam makes it cooler than the other foam pillows as well. It also lends a high conformability to the pillows to hold and retain the shape of your head and neck for optimal comfort. Even though shredded foam provides you with a high degree of flexibility in adjusting the loftiness, the IDLE Sleep pillow manages to give you the optimal loftiness that is easily adapted to because of its high conformability feature.

Cover

The cover is made of rayon derived from natural bamboo velour. This rich and luxurious rayon is a naturally breathable surface and ideal for all skin types, especially for those with sensitive skin. The gentle fabric aids in the breathability property of the pillow and, together with the foam, creates a lush, cool, and comfortable base for your head.

You can even utilize the cover as a standalone pillowcase for your other pillows if you are looking to change the cover for a more aesthetically appealing one. Alternatively, you can also put on a pillowcase over this one. Either way, the cover does an excellent job of keeping the actual pillow clean and free from germs, especially when the pillow itself cannot be washed. It also helps in odor control.

Cleaning Instructions

The cover is machine washable on low heat and delicate cycle. You cannot hang dry it and need to dry it flat on an even surface. Ironing is not recommended.

The pillow itself cannot be washed. Hand wash is also not recommended since the foam will soak up a tremendous amount of water. Squeezing, it will change the pillow shape and deteriorate the quality of foam. There is a very good chance of mold formation before your pillow dries completely. You can spot clean it on occasions and should dry clean it overtime to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.

Sleep Position Suitability

The cooling gel memory foam, along with the trademark zone technology, creates the perfect balance of comfort and support to suit all types. The texture of the pillow makes it appropriate for one and all. However, this pillow is ideal for side and back sleepers. This is not to say that stomach sleepers will find it uncomfortable. Stomach sleepers will also find a good level of comfort, just not to the degree that will be experienced by side and back sleepers.

Firmness Level

IDLE Sleep memory foam pillow is a soft pillow. It is a softer pillow than the regular memory foam pillows. Memory foam, by its nature, is a soft firm to a soft pillow. With the special formula employed in the construction of IDLE Sleep memory foam pillow along with the infused gel, this pillow is softer, plusher, and fluffier than the average memory foam pillows n the market.

However, do not be fooled by the soft texture. This pillow provides more comfort and support than the normal firm pillows out there. This is due to the zones technology and the design, which lends it high conformability and an added strength to retain its structure even after frequent use.

Returns and Shipping

IDLE Sleep pillows do not come with any trial period. They also cannot be returned once purchased unless you receive a defective product to begin with. This might seem like a drawback, especially when IDLE gives a trial period, return options, and lifetime warranty on its other products. However, this is not a drawback since most pillows do not come with a trial period or return options.

The shipping is completely free of charge within the mainland US, and you will receive your pillow at your doorstep within 3 to 10 business days post payment.

Price

IDLE Sleep pillows are a little pricier than the other average foam pillows. However, they provide higher value for money than the others as well. Easy finance options are available when purchased from the company website.

Sleep is a must to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Your body recovers and rejuvenates during sleep. It is, therefore, imperative to get the best quality snooze you can. Pillows play an important role in this. You cannot sleep properly if you do not have the proper support and comfort for your neck, head, shoulders, and spine.

Unfortunately, sleep problems are all too common. Sleep apnea is one of the most common sleep problems, and it can make getting a good night’s rest all the more difficult. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition where your body gets deprived of air during sleep. Needless to say, this makes you come awake breathless and in a panic mode. It can be very exhausting, both mentally and physically.

CPAP pillows can help you deal with this situation and aid you in getting the proper rest you require. With the variety of CPAP pillows out in the market, choosing one that is most suitable for you can be another very daunting task. This article lists the top-rated CPAP pillows you can find in 2020 and will help you to narrow down your list and choose one without any hassles.

What is a CPAP Pillow?

Continuous Positive Air Flow Pressure or CPAP is the treatment for sleep apnea. It involves breathing in oxygen through an oxygen mask to help you get steady oxygen throughout the night. This mask makes it very uncomfortable to find the right degree of support and comfort from a regular pillow.

CPAP Pillows are specially designed pillows that support the use of this oxygen mask while sleeping. They are structured to keep your full-face mask secure and without any leaks while you sleep. Whether you are an active sleeper who likes to toss and turn through the night or a more sedate sleeper, your CPAP pillow will ensure that your mask stays on, and you get the restful sleep you deserve.

How Are CPAP Pillows Different from Normal Pillows?

CPAP Pillows come with specifically cut out sections and margins that allow the exhalation vents in the mask to remain unobstructed. This ensures that you get a regular supply of the CPAP therapy air. These cut out segments also help in preventing any seal disruptions.

Seal disruptions happen when your mask is not secure and gets out of place. With normal pillows, while you sleep, any change in your posture or body movement might push your head sideways or higher up, leading to the mask shifting as well. The cut-outs and segmented design of the CPAP pillow prevent this from happening.

Further, CPAP pillows are generally made with memory foam. This helps the pillow to support your mask while alleviating your head, neck, and spine optimally and maintain proper posture while sleeping. The fiber CPAP pillows are equally effective in support and provide a higher level of comfort.

Choosing the Right CPAP Pillow

There are a lot of choices and varieties in the market. You can get any material, shape, size, firmness, and height you want. However, you must bear in mind certain things while choosing your pillow. These are:

Support

The first and foremost function of any pillow is to provide you with optimum spinal alignment support. Your CPAP pillow must give proper support to your head, neck, and shoulders so that you maintain good posture through the night. Apart from these, your CPAP pillow must also support your CPAP mask effectively.

Material

You should choose a CPAP pillow that gives you good comfort. It is already very uncomfortable sleeping with a CPAP machine; you should therefore look for a pillow that can reduce your discomfort from the CPAP mask and give a good night experience.

For this, memory foam pillows are the ideal choice. Memory foam provides good relief to sore pressure points and molds well to your head and neck shape. Cotton should be your go-to choice for covers as it gives the best ventilation, cooling and is soft on the skin.

Structure

The main function of a CPAP pillow is to support your CPAP therapy. You need to ensure that your CPAP pillow is compatible with your CPAP mask or hose. Basic CPAP pillows only accommodate masks, so if you have a CPAP mask with a hose attached, then make sure that your pillow accommodates the hose as well.

Budget

It is important to know how much you want to spend before you start choosing your pillow. This way, you will not go overboard and waste time and effort looking at pillows that are not within your range. Keeping your budget in mind, try to look at quality more than the discount, looks, and design.

Honeydew Sleep is a family-owned, California based company that sells innovative pillows that are made with some of the best materials available. I first met the founders of Honeydew 3 years ago and they truly are a family-run enterprise. They have been working in the sleep space for over 30 years and Honeydew represents their response to customer demand for a quality pillow.

By working directly with customers and listening to their needs in a pillow, Honeydew Sleep has produced a solid lineup of pillows that should have near-universal appeal.

Overview of the Honeydew Scrumptious and Essence Pillows

Here’s a video overview of the two pillows and the differences between the two.

Your pillows arrive in a box with attractive packaging.

It includes instructions maintenance and how to get the most out of your pillow.

The pillow is vacuum-sealed and rolled to save space. It inflates quickly and is ready to use right away. You also get a couple of pillowcases that are made from a bamboo fiber for a silky and breathable feel.

honeydew box contents

These pillows come with a 60-day trial which means you get to test it out for about 2 months to see if it’s a good fit. If you don’t like it, it’s a free return. If you decide to keep it, you a covered by a 3-year warranty that covers any defects in materials or workmanship, not normal wear and tear.

How Much Do Honeydew Pillows Cost?

Currently, the Scrumptious pillow retails for $99 while the Essence pillow retails for $79.

Construction of the Honeydew Pillow

Here you can see what’s inside the pillow. This pillow is made from cut foam and polyester fibers. These materials are becoming more common in high-end pillows because that mix is so comfortable and customizable. If you want a thinner pillow, simply pull some out and store it in a Ziploc bag for later use.

Although these materials are common, it is clear that Honeydew is using premium foam and it is cut in a consistent diamond pattern in small pieces. This gives the pillow a consistent feel, no lumps, and better contouring.

My Honeydew Pillow Findings

People who have broad shoulders should go with the Scrumptious model over the Essence. Inside they use the same materials but the Scrumptious as a gusseted edge making it thicker while the Essence has a knife-edge design for people that want a lower profile.

Honeydew pillow comparison

Both pillows I received have a shoulder cut out which is ideal for side sleeping. Honeydew also makes a standard shaped pillow.

honeydew 4

Because of the unique design, you get custom shaped pillowcases that will curve towards the bottom. In a pinch you can always use a standard pillowcase, it really won’t take away from the feel.

honeydew pillowcase

Both the pillowcase and the pillow have zippers. Having a zipper on the pillowcase ensures that it won’t come loose from the pillow. The pillowcases you receive have a silky feel and are very breathable. You can choose the color below or white.

My Honeydew Recommendation

While there are pillows similar to Honeydew, I haven’t come across one that is this affordable. The side sleeper pillows I tried are truly unique and I strongly recommend them for dedicated side sleepers that may have neck or shoulder pain. Neck and shoulder pain are often indicative of a pillow not providing adequate support. Because the pillows are customizable, breathable, and affordable, they should be one of your first considerations. If you don’t like them you can always return them for a full refund within the trial period.

You may have seen the commercials about the new Angel Sleeper Pillow by Copper Fit which is designed for side and back sleepers. It comes in a standard and king size. For this review, I purchase the standard size which sells for about $40. Overall I appreciate that they put a lot of thought into the design and it certainly doesn’t look like a standard pillow. I think it’s great for back sleeping but it came up a little short, literally for side sleeping. I have a bigger frame and it just wasn’t thick enough for my shoulders. Below are my thoughts about the Angel Sleeper.

Why is the Angel Sleeper So Popular?

The Angel Sleeper Pillow has become popular due to its unique shape and design that is specifically tailored for side sleepers. The pillow is contoured to provide support to the neck and shoulders, helping to reduce pressure points and improve overall comfort while sleeping. Additionally, the pillow is often made of high-quality materials such as memory foam or other supportive materials, which can enhance its durability and comfort.

Furthermore, the pillow has gained popularity due to its promotion on various infomercials and advertising campaigns. Many people who have tried the Angel Sleeper Pillow have reported improved sleep quality and reduced neck pain, which has helped to generate positive reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Overall, the popularity of the Angel Sleeper Pillow can be attributed to its unique design, supportive materials, and positive feedback from users who have experienced improved sleep quality and reduced discomfort while using the pillow.

Overview of the Angel Sleeper Pillow

The Angel Sleeper Pillow is a type of contoured pillow designed to support side sleepers. It is made with a unique shape that follows the natural curve of the neck and shoulders, providing support and reducing pressure points while sleeping on one’s side. The pillow is often made of memory foam or other supportive materials and may include features such as cooling gel or a breathable cover. The name “Angel Sleeper” may refer to the idea that the pillow helps users sleep more comfortably and feel well-rested, like an angel.

You can buy the Copper Fit Angel Pillow from their website or on Amazon. It comes in a standard and king size. When I ordered my pillow it said there were shipping delays and to expect it in about 3 weeks but to my surprise, it arrived in 4 days! The pillow was packaged in a protective plastic pouch with a zippable cover which can be reused for storage when not in use. Because it wasn’t vacuum sealed, there was very little off-gassing so it’s ready to use right away.

If you are extra sensitive to smells the cover is machine washable and running it through the wash will help. Here’s what it looks like right out of the packaging.

Angel Sleeper Pillow Front

Angel Sleeper Pillow

The pillow has 2 sides, the shallow side is for side sleeping and the thicker side that slopes downward is for back sleeping. It contours inward on the edges so that you can hug it with your arm without making the pillow bunch up further. Below you can see how the edges measure up.

How Much Does the Angel Sleeper Copper Fit Pillow Cost?

This pillow comes in 2 sizes

Standard: $39.99
King: $59.99

Both come with a 30-day trial

Where Can You Buy the Angel Sleeper Pillow?

The Angel Sleeper Pillow can be purchased from various online retailers such as Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and the official Angel Sleeper Pillow website. It may also be available at select brick-and-mortar stores such as Walmart or Target. The price of the pillow may vary depending on the retailer and any ongoing promotions or discounts.

My Angel Sleeper Recommendation

If you are a stomach or back sleeper that is experiencing neck or shoulder problems at night this might be a good solution. While somewhat expensive at $40 plus shipping and handling and taxes which brought the total to a little over $50, it’s certainly less expensive than buying a new mattress. Just keep in mind that you will need to pay return shipping as well which is probably around $10 so all in, it could cost around $20 just to try the pillow even if you decide to return it within the 30 day trial period.

There are thousands of foam pillows available but I haven’t come across one molded quite like the Angel Sleeper. The added copper benefit makes it worthy of consideration. Just keep in mind that you have broad shoulders it may not be thick enough to properly support you so adding a standard pillow underneath may be needed. I’m usually wary of these “as seen on tv” products, especially if they try to hide any sort of fees but so far I am pretty impressed with this one. I recommend buying through Amazon since returns are much easier.

Pillows Similar to the Angel Sleeper Pillow

There are several similar pillows on the market that are designed to support side sleepers, and they can vary in terms of materials, shape, and price. Here are a few examples of comparable pillows to the Angel Sleeper Pillow:

  1. Coop Home Goods – Eden Pillow: The Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow is a popular contoured pillow made of memory foam and microfiber fill. It features an adjustable loft, allowing users to customize the height of the pillow, and a breathable bamboo-derived cover. The Eden Pillow is available on the Coop Home Goods website and on Amazon for around $80.

Overview of Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain

The Prana Rest Posture Perfect Pillow is sometimes referred to as a Cervical Pillow or Orthopedic Pillow and is used by individuals with disc issues or neck pain. Made from shredded memory foam, it’s recommended for back and side sleepers due to it’s soft and supportive nature. It’s designed to offer pain relief from things as severe as surgery or strains, as well as from overall general neck pain.

  • 10 years warranty
  • 101 Night Sleep Trial
  • Made in the USA
  • Price of the Pillow: Ranges from $100 to $160

Construction of Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain

Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain is a firm pillow available in Queen and King sizes. The measurements are as follows:

Queen size 20” x 30”

King size 20” x 36”

The inside fill of the pillow is made with CopperTouch Shredded Certi-PUR-US memory foam that is soft, supportive and adjustable. The foam is hypoallergenic, dust-mite resistant and anti-viral and anti-microbial.

My Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain Findings

The first thing this pillow taught me is to make you properly read directions. I found myself a little confused at first, not realizing that the pillow had an inner pouch that itself could be customized. Overall the pillow looks solid and I like how its quadrant-style structure seems to be more meticulously constructed than other pillows. Having to be honest though, I would describe this pillow as more supportive than as soft. It’s comfortable but it’s not soft or fluffy but it’ll keep your neck steady and essentially, that’s what it’s designed to do. I also feel that the biggest value that you’re getting is when it comes to the pillow’s environmental certification. The Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain foam is CertiPUR-US certified and it’s made without PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), TDCPP (Trisphosphate) or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants.

My Posture Perfect Copper Pillow for Neck Pain Recommendation

While the pillow is on the pricey side, ranging from $100 to $160 dollars, it does come with an impressive 10-year warranty, as well as a 101 Night Sleep Trial. That being the case, I feel like the manufacturers have done everything in their power to make you feel confident in what they’ve created.

The Sleep & Glow Pillow

The Sleep & Glow pillow is an anti-aging pillow for back and side sleepers that promises less fatigued skin, a refreshed face and a healthy back. Its design is quite technical, which is why even though it’s often marketed for its beauty benefits, it also has a lot to offer physiologically.

sleep & glow pillow upright

Overview of The Sleep & Glow Pillow

This pillow is designed and produced in Europe and it has been patented in Europe, the US, and Japan. The company offers a 30-night sleep trial with a money-back guarantee. On top of that, they stand by a 3-year warranty. The pillow retails for $195 on their website.

Construction of The Sleep & Glow Pillow

The pillow only comes in one size with the following dimensions: 22” x 15” x 5” and it’s made with some pretty remarkable memory foam. Every part of this pillow has been made with the intention of ad addressing some type of problem. Even the pillowcases, which are offered in both Tencel and silk versions, have been well thought out. This pillow is constructed with European materials that are non-toxic, safety approved materials that also have ISO quality control system certification.

My Sleep & Glow Pillow Findings

*Important Note*
After filming this review, I realized that I made a mistake in terms of how I demonstrated laying on the pillow. I used the pillow upside down. Doing so can actually cause headaches and further neck problems. The higher bolster has to touch the forehead and the lower bolster, the chin. I apologize for the confusion.

The biggest selling point of the Sleep & Glow pillow is within its construction. It not only looks meticulously built but it is. I can tell that some incredibly intelligent people created this pillow and that’s confirmed when Sleep & Glow mentions that it was designed with the help of both cosmetologists and orthopedists. Cosmetologists are most likely a familiar term if you came to this article interested in beauty and anti-aging but for those who aren’t familiar with orthopedists, they are knowledgeable and skilled in the “prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.” This is also known as our musculoskeletal system. In short, they’re masters of human anatomy.

Despite the Sleep & Glow Pillow being primarily marketed for what it has to offer aesthetically, it’s psychological components shouldn’t be overlooked. While it was created to help you look your best it also assists with maintaining spinal alignment as well as proper curvature of the neck. Why is this important? Because our spinal alignment is essential to our health. If our spine is out of whack, odds are other things are as well. The construction of this pillow seeks to address that concern by providing you with the physiologically-correct body position during sleep, encouraging spinal alignment and a happy cervical curve. For those who have already existing musculoskeletal issues, it’s advised that you consult your physician/chiropractor/orthopedist if a pillow like this can adequately meet your needs. It’s quite possible that it’s not the right solution for you.

sleep & glow pillow packaging

The method in which it aids in anti-aging is multi-faceted. First, there’s the form (the way it’s shaped and cut), then the material used to create it (memory foam), and then the pillowcases it comes with.

In addition to being comfortable, the memory foam used in its construction is dense where it provides perfectly adequate support but it’s not so firm that it feels stiff. You’ll achieve comfortable side and back sleeping and the way certain portions of it are cut out, it does a great job at cradling your head regardless of how you sleep (keep in mind this is not for stomach sleepers). The neck support, all thanks to the shoulder cradle, is really out of this world.

One of the most advertised features of this pillow is how it prevents your face from getting smushed. There’s just no better word for it than that because most likely, you totally know what I mean when I say it: smushed. The anatomical shape of the pillow helps minimize skin twisting and folding and this works by avoiding your face from directly having to lean too much into the pillow when on your side. This works to prevent sleep wrinkles, morning puffiness and those unsightly pillow marks and creases that some of us wake up with. As an added side note, if you want to avoid vertical wrinkles to the decollage area, you will want to sleep on your back. If you want to avoid wrinkles altogether, sleeping on a pillow that encourages this, is already a big step in the right direction. If you insist on sleeping on your side, using a pillow like this one is an improvement.

The pillowcase options that Sleep & Glow offers are Tencel and silk. Apparently, both have some pretty interesting characteristics that further improve the effectiveness of the Sleep & Glow Pillow. Both also happen to be made of natural fibers. One thing I want to mention, for those who may not be aware, is this: When silk is generally mentioned (anywhere on the internet), satin is usually following along behind it.

While it’s not relevant to this pillow, I’d like to just educate some people (because embarrassingly, I recently learned it myself and it’s an essential distinction). Satin is not a replacement fabric for silk. Silk is an actual fabric, while satin is a type of weave used to achieve a smoother feeling fabric. So silk is the real thing and with this pillow or pillowcase, that’s what you’ll be getting. Our eco-friendly readers will also be happy to know that both pillowcase fabrics offered, silk and Tencel, are biodegradable.

Silk is a natural protein fiber consisting mainly of fibroin (an insoluble protein) and it’s created by certain insect larvae in the formation of cocoons. The best-known silk comes from the mulberry silkworm. Silk has a few compelling characteristics:

  • Doesn’t absorb moisture
  • Doesn’t absorb creams
  • Reduces hair breakage
  • Prevents hair tangling
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Naturally elastic
  • Helps regulate body temperature
  • Keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer

Here’s an interesting fact about silk from Wikipedia.com:

“The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the triangular prism-like structure of the silk fiber, which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles, thus producing different colors.”

One of the most interesting things that I learned about silk is that sunlight tends to encourage the decomposition of silk by atmospheric oxygen so it’s best kept out of the light.

sleep & glow pillow side view

Tencel is the brand name of a fiber that is known as lyocell. While it’s technically considered a synthetic fiber, it’s retrieved from natural materials and goes through a lengthy process to be transformed into fabric. The result is a luxurious high-quality fiber. Tencel also has a few intriguing characteristics:

  • Made from eucalyptus fiber (which doesn’t require irrigation or pesticides)
  • More breathable than cotton
  • Hypoallergenic and bacteriostatic properties (suitable for sensitive skin)
  • Softer and stronger than most cotton
  • Has less of a tendency to wrinkle
  • Its production utilizes less land and water than cotton
  • Amasses less odor and bacteria when compared to other fabrics

It’s true that this pillow is pricey when compared to more cheaply designed versions but it’s almost not the most expensive pillow I’ve seen. Specialty pillows like this can easily run $200 to $300. I’ve seen others that were even higher. I understand that this may sound insane to most people but to target particular problems, or particular areas of the body, people are willing to spend if the product does what it claims. Specifically constructed designs require resources. But for the money they ask, premium quality is typically what you receive.

sleep and glow logo tag

My Sleep & Glow Pillow Recommendation

I’m really impressed with this pillow. The quality of the materials used and its intricate construction certainly justifies the price. From the physiological aspect, I’m confident that it can help certain individuals with their neck and shoulder issues. From the beauty aspect, the combination of elements involved, such as the structure, the density of the memory foam, as well as the materials that were chosen for the pillowcase, sound promising. The first night I spent on the pillow, I started sleeping on my back and I woke up still laying on my back. That was surprising to me as I’m totally in love with side sleeping, nothing is nearly as comforting to me. Sleeping on your back, in general, is the most recommended thing to reduce and prevent wrinkles and if a pillow like this can help encourage that, it’s worth the spend. For those skeptical, it may require some experimentation to know for sure if it’s for you but I don’t think the amount of reviews they’ve amassed is coincidental. There is obviously something they are doing right.

Overview of The Tuft & Needle Pillow

Tuft & Needle has decided to break the norm by creating a pillow that unlike so many others isn’t adjustable. Their one-size-fits-all approach has resulted in a pretty beautiful, sleek and breathable foam pillow. It’s also super-duper eco-friendly meaning it’s safe for your mind, body and soul!

tuft & needle pillow displayed on a sofa

Construction of The Tuft & Needle Pillow

The Tuft & Needle Pillow is designed to work for all sleep types. It’s made of custom cut T&N Adaptive Foam (their trademark) which consists of graphite and cooling gel beads (meaning it’s thermoregulating), not that there are any “beads” that you see or feel. It’s a pretty sleek and uniform looking product and it’s packaged in a beautifully crafted soft micro polyamide and polyester pillowcase. It’s meant to help you sleep cool and honestly, it looks pretty cool too. It’s just designed SO WELL.

It comes in two different sizes: Standard and King. The Standard pillow retails for $75 while the King size is only an additional $25 on top of that, which is not too shabby. Tuft & Needle is offering a 100 Night Trial and the pillow comes with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. The pillowcase is washable, however the foam and foam encasement is not; it’s recommended that you spot clean it if needed.

It has three different certifications in the name of both health and environmental safety and sustainability. They are: STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certified (16.HUS.79211, Hohenstein HTTI), GREENGUARD Gold certified and CertiPUR-US® certified. This pillow is also hypoallergenic.

Setting Herculean Standards for the Mattress, Pillow and Bedding Industry

Most companies release pillows with only one or two of the previously mentioned certifications. Okay, let’s be frank: some with none at all. Tuft & Needle’s towering standards and expectations (it’s a good thing!) in the name of health and environment should bring any decent person to their feet and competitors ought to be paying attention—whether they care for the environment or the health of others or not. It’s not a nice thing to talk about but the reality is that some companies don’t care and anyone who has a good marketing campaign will make sure you can’t tell the difference.

tuft & needle pillow unboxing

T&N is one of the first to offer a product with a trio and the fact that these certifications have become common makes it apparent that it’s because consumers aren’t afraid to make demands. Although this brings something else to mind: Since people seek it and companies are quick to provide it, the fact that T&N decided to get three different certifications just goes to show you how much there is to be mindful of. It’s crazy how much something can matter to one certifying organization but could perhaps be entirely irrelevant to another. I’m not trying to make a case study out of the brand but I’m curious why the three certifications? Why not just two? Is it to prove their commitment? That wouldn’t be a bad thing. We ask partners to prove their commitment with a diamond ring and we ask others countless ways to put their money where their mouth is. Or is it because there simply isn’t one certification that can encompass so many different areas of concern?

When you consider the price, this is a BIG portion of what you’re paying for: Assurance and that’s not a small thing. To be assured is pretty significant. Let’s not minimize it. (Think about how a mother can feel assured knowing their child has a cell phone they can reach them on.) You’re not paying for a “label.” You’re paying for the knowledge that various third parties/organizations have had to meticulously investigate and hold accountable these companies and their products. Imagine someone having to take ONE person’s feedback into account and going back and making changes to an original design of sorts. Tweaking it, resubmitting it and so on. Consider what it would be like to be under the scrutiny of a whole slew of people in hopes of passing an exam, or meeting their list of requirements, if you will. It’s that involved and that can’t possibly be cheap when it comes to mass-produced consumer products.

My Tuft & Needle Pillow Findings

The Tuft & Needle Pillow is beautiful. It’s designed well and it’s simple. There’s absolutely no guesswork and it even LOOKS great. You don’t have to fluff it, in fact you don’t really have to do a thing. It’s soft and comfortable (and it has almost zero off-gassing too, which is huge) but where I think most reviewers get it wrong is by trying too hard to make it sound like the one-size-fits-all that it’s creators originally meant and hoped for it to be. The reality is this: Many things aren’t what they seem to be. It’s not exactly a firm pillow so I won’t describe it that way. Heck, it’s not even medium firm. This is a SOFT pillow. The way it appears, because it’s made from a single piece of foam and because foam retains its shape, might give the impression or illusion that this is another “medium firm” pillow but it’s not. The moment you lay on the pillow you will know. The foam compresses significantly to hold space for your melon. It doesn’t dip just a little—it sinks. Due to its intrinsic properties, I think this could be a great product for back sleepers and stomach sleepers but side sleepers, heed caution. There’s no doubt that when it comes to customer reviews that the results are pretty varied here but one of the most common remarks that I found was that this pillow does tend to lose some loft throughout the night. That being the case, while it might seem “supportive” at first (I honestly have no idea how), it most likely won’t stay that way to see the morning.

tuft and needle pillow case details

My Tuft & Needle Pillow Recommendation

The pillow feels like a normal pillow should feel. I don’t want you to think that it suddenly meets mattress level the moment it’s met with any weight BUT if you’re a side sleeper, chances are you need copious amounts of support to avoid waking up with a stiff neck. The type of support that you can’t ever doubt and in my opinion, this pillow is just too soft to meet the requirements of such needy concerns. The Tuft & Needle Pillow is fabulous, aesthetically well executed and made with top-notch materials (you can see it and feel it) but I don’t believe this is a one-size-fits-all. While they nailed “soft and squishy,” I’m not sure “supportive” can really fit into the picture. Supportive is usually synonymous with a certain level of firmness.

Construction of The Puffy Pillow

You can get the Puffy Pillow in two different sizes: Standard and King size.

The Puffy Pillow has a premium memory foam filling that is CertiPUR –US certified. It’s made from a special polyester blend and a bamboo rayon blend so it is hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant. The cooling cover is also washable.

The pillow comes in the following sizes:

Standard: 20” x 26”

King:  20” x 36”

My Puffy Pillow Findings

My experience with the Puffy Pillow was mixed. The unboxing experience was great. It arrived in a branded package, it was designed well and looked neat. As with most pillows, it was compressed to reduce the size and cut packaging costs and waste. I was surprised with how much loft this pillow has once you give it time to sit there and adjust to the oxygen in the room. It’s really a huge pillow and I’m sure for someone who doesn’t like a lot of stuffing, it can even make two. There was a bit of off-gassing with this pillow so I do advise everyone to give it a sufficient amount of time to air out. Open a window and let the wind do some of the work. I felt that the pillowcase was disappointing, not necessarily because it looks to be made poorly or out of poor material; that wasn’t the case. It does look well made and like the fabric is designed to do what it’s supposed to (thermoregulating and moisture wicking), however it didn’t match the image of what they’re promoting on their website. In that sense, it was difficult to deny that I was surprised as I really was expecting something quite different. Adjusting the foam content was also not my favorite because I found it to be messy but as long as you don’t mind running a vacuum across the floor, it doesn’t need to be a deal breaker. What I do feel this pillow is great for is for someone who wants a pillow that is supportive and that can retain its shape and loft. Side sleepers would especially benefit because you can expect the foam to stay put. I would say that’s the strongest attribute of this pillow, it feels incredibly reliable in that sense.

puffy pillow perforations in pillowcase

My Puffy Pillow  Recommendation

I think the pillow has a lot of potential if only it looked more closely to what is portrayed on the website. I think the best word for the image online is that it looks too airbrushed. Otherwise, this pillow seems like a great option for someone who likes medium-firm pillows and who is specifically looking for adequate support.

More About Puffy

On their website where the Puffy Pillow is promoted I found that at the bottom of the page you can find a link called “Puffy Donations.” While this doesn’t pertain to the pillow, it does pertain to their mattress and something philanthropic like this does score some points with me. For every 10 social media posts (on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter) Puffy will donate a mattress to a shelter for children in need. <h2 class="entry-title"><a href="https://yawnder.com/the-8hours-adjustable-pillow-review/" rel="bookmark">The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow Review</a></h2>

Recently updated on July 21st, 2020 at 05:02 am

The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow is another adjustable pillow that seeks to change the game by helping you maximize on sleep. Its foam is made with patented MemHex™ Internal Technology. The thinking behind this product is that if you can’t adjust to your pillow, then have your pillow adjust to you. It’s described as tech + nature coming together.

Overview of The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow

8hours 8 hours adjustable pillow

The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow is essentially suitable for everyone thanks to its customizable design. Whether you are a side, stomach or back sleeper, this pillow can work for you. The company offers an 88 Nights No-Risk Trial. The pillow itself retails for $95 and you can buy a multi-pack to receive anywhere from 2, 3 or 4 pillows at a discounted rate. If you order 4 pillows, you get one for free. Shipping is a flat fee of $5 for all US orders and returns are free, so long as it’s shipped within the states. The pillow is designed and assembled in Italy (Molto bene!). 8Hours gives you the option to finance the pillow through Affirm if you so desire. This pillow comes with a 5 Year Warranty which is the longest warranty I’ve ever heard of for a pillow so I find that very impressive.

Construction of The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow

inside the 8hours adjustable pillow

This pillow comes in a single standard size of  18″ x 27.5″ with a 2″ Loft gusset.

The outer cover is made from a natural cellulose fabric. It’s moisture wicking and works to also distribute heat more efficiently so that you can sleep cool. Because of its water resistant properties, it’s also designed to be antibacterial. It’s both soft and durable and also made from 100% biodegradable and fully sustainable resources.

The foam for this pillow is referred to as MemHex™ Internal Technology. It’s pretty interesting being that it’s made with a honeycomb shape. The foam comes in its own case, and the pillowcase goes on top of that. This makes accessing the foam easy and convenient and the pillowcase easy to clean.

8hours memhex internal technology foam

Be sure to disperse the foam evenly and to fluff your pillow. Because the foam pieces are rather large, this is important to making sure they all fit and lock into one another.

The pillow is not only Hypoallergenic but is also:

  • Approved by SleepScore Labs
  • STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® Certified
  • Tested for Quality Control and ISO 9001 Registered with SGS

SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. For a product to be OEKO-TEX® Certified, it has to go through some serious testing and the organization is known to have the highest standards in the industry. This guarantees that the materials have been tested to be free from harmful levels of 100+ different substances. The certification is voluntary, has to be reviewed and updated every year, is conducted by independent third party laboratories and is global, meaning that the standards are the same no matter the country.

My 8Hours Adjustable Pillow Findings

I wasn’t sure what to think of the 8Hours Adjustable Pillow initially but the more I lay on it, the more I came to like it. It came packaged in a branded package that was designed well and the unboxing experience was simple enough. Unrolling the pillow was kind of crazy because since most pillows these days come compressed, you usually have to give it some time to catch some air and regain its loft. When the pillow finally came to life, I was shocked with the size of this thing. It was ridiculous! You should really watch the video at least to see this portion because it’s amazing how big it became. I thought it would be too much foam to lay on but even without having to remove any foam, it was still incredibly comfortable. I usually like much fluffier pillows but actually felt really pleased and was impressed with how supportive this pillow was. Despite it holding its shape very well, I still found it to be incredibly soft and nice to rest on. While I feel this pillow can definitely accommodate any sleeping style, I think a pillow like this would be especially great for someone who is a side sleeper because getting that support between the neck and shoulder is so crucial to waking up pain-free and well rested.

My 8Hours Adjustable Pillow Recommendation

8hours adjustable pillow logo

I feel this pillow has a lot of promise due to how supportive it is. For anyone with environmental concerns as well, this thing is sure to hit a home run. There is no weird off-gassing or odor, like what can be found in many other pillows so this was a HUGE plus. Who wants to wait hours or even days until they can finally sleep with their new pillow comfortably? It may sound ridiculous but some pillows don’t ever stop smelling strange and that will not and is not the case with this. So as far as initial unboxing experience, this is something they really nailed. The foam is pretty funny and I wish I knew more about it but every company has their own trade secrets to protect. MemHex™ Internal Technology is trademarked for a reason and trademarking a product and a name isn’t cheap so they’ve taken the steps necessary to protect their creation. The foam is also designed to be used in pillows ONLY. You would never hear of this from anyone else. It’s very rare. Almost every company tries to develop a foam that can be used in an array of sleep products but that isn’t always sufficient and I’m glad 8Hours is a company that understands this. Some reviewers said the pillow is “lumpy” and while that may appear to be the case, so long as you disperse the filling evenly, you shouldn’t feel any discomfort. You are laying on foam after all, not rocks! The foam needs the manual help to lock into place with all the other pieces. It just needs a little help to settle in correctly. I consider this to be a pillow that is made well and one that will help you sleep soundly.

It’s your best friend’s birthday, and you finally decide to head to the new Italian restaurant that you had been eyeing for a long time. You dine with mindless abandon– from garlic pasta, spicy sausage, homemade tomato sauce to tons of wine. When you return home fully sated, you have only one thing on your mind– long, deep, restful sleep. But the moment you lie down in bed, it hits you like a train. What? Acid reflux.

We have been in such a situation many, many times, when we have gobbled down food and washed down alcohol like there’s no tomorrow, only to stay awake all night with a tummy ache, discomfort, and heartburn. Acid reflux is extremely common, and that’s mostly because of our eating habits. Of course, there are people with weak digestive systems who are more prone to acid reflux, but it almost always happens because of the things we eat or drink.

Among the many reasons that can disrupt sleep at night, there is acid reflux. Anyone who has ever experienced acid reflux will be acutely aware of how difficult it makes sleep. You keep tossing and turning, drinking water, pacing up and down the room, downing digestives in hopes of making it better, but it isn’t easy to get rid of. The result is that the next morning you aren’t just sleepy, but also not feeling your best. All because of the birthday dinner that you so enjoyed.

Acid reflux can be prevented, but there are times it happens suddenly. Don’t be surprised if you get acidity even without eating a heavy Italian meal for dinner. There are various reasons why acid reflux happens, but no matter why it happens, it always makes falling asleep an impossible task.

Because acid reflux is so common, a number of manufacturers have come up with a special pillow that are supposed to help with acid reflux symptoms and make it easier to fall asleep. With normal pillows, you keep stacking then but don’t get the support that you need to ease the heartburn. That’s why these special pillows are intended to help you sleep even when you have acid reflux symptoms.

What Is Acid Reflux?

Before we go into details about the pillows made for acid reflux, let’s first discuss what acid reflux is and why it happens. Although we know it by many names – acidity, indigestion, dyspepsia – it’s the same thing – gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The condition is characterized by a burning sensation and discomfort located in the throat, chest or stomach. Sometimes it also leaves a sour taste in the mouth, besides nausea, bloating, flatulence and belching. With all these symptoms it’s no wonder that acid reflux makes it difficult to fall asleep.

What Exactly Is the Cause of Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux is caused by hiatal hernia, a condition in which a part of the stomach pushes up towards the chest. This is the cause of acid reflux, when the stomach and lower esophageal sphincter push above the diaphragm.  The diaphragm muscle is responsible for helping keep acid in our stomach. When a part of the stomach pushes up, and above the diaphragm, the acid moves up into the esophagus. The muscles of the diaphragm are supposed to be taut, keeping the opening leading from the stomach to the esophagus closed. During eating or drinking, these muscles relax to allow the food to pass to the stomach, and then they tighten again. In people with GERD, the diaphragm muscles are weak, and they don’t relax when they should. This prevents the esophageal muscles from closing completely and allows stomach contents to push back up the throat. This is what causes indigestion, bloating, heartburn and discomfort.

Acid reflux is more common than any other condition. About 60 percent of the American population experiences acid reflux every year, with more than half of them getting weekly symptoms. Acid reflux clearly needs more attention than just popping digestive supplements.

There are several factors that cause acid reflux. Some of the most factors are:

  • Eating too close to bedtime
  • Consuming acid triggering foods, such as alcohol, spicy or fatty foods, and caffeine
  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Wearing tight clothing to bed

As we realize, most of the factors that cause acid reflux are manageable. But since acid reflux mostly happens at night during bedtime, it affects sleep more than anything else. This is why the things we consume close to bedtime have a maximum effect on our digestive system.

Do Wedge Pillows Work for Acid Reflux?

There are quite a few treatments and prevention options for acid reflux. Taking antacids prescription medications and surgery are some of the means for those who experience regular acid reflux symptoms. However, none of these offer any immediate improvement and also have an animal of side effects. Popping an antacid when you have acid reflux during bedtime can offer relief but take a few hours to work. So until then, you have to keep tossing and turning or pacing around your room.

There is however a quick and easy relief option when you experience acid reflux at night, and that is by elevating upper portion of your body while you are lying down in bed. The elevation is proven to be one of the quickest solutions for acid reflux because it prevents stomach contents from coming up to the throat through the esophagus. Several studies have found the usefulness of elevating your head or the upper portion of your body to get immediate relief from acid reflux symptoms.

There are quite a few ways to elevate your head while you lay down, including stacking up the pillows and elevating the head of the bed. However, if you elevate your head simply by stacking a few pillows, you are creating excessive strain on your neck and spine, as well as creating pressure on your abdomen and aggravating acid reflux symptoms. Unfortunately, that is the way most people are used to elevating their head, but it isn’t of much use.

This is when you should use wedge pillows that have been specially designed to keep the head elevated while supporting the rest of the body. While wedge pillows have a number of different uses, they are mostly used for elevating certain parts of the body such as the head the shoulders the back or the legs. As the name suggests, these pillows are shaped like a wedge and are a little firmer than regular pillows, which allows them to provide better support. Wedge pillows are also used for elevating the head for people who snore or have sleep apnea or need support during pregnancy.

Wedge pillows are a simple, affordable, and risk-free solution to treat nighttime GERD quickly. It won’t make your symptoms disappear but will make sleeping at night a lot easier. It is also far safer than popping pills or undergoing surgery. Wedge pillows are available online and at major bedding stores.

5 Best Wedge Pillows for Acid Reflux?

Wedge pillows are primarily manufactured for acid reflux relief. They are rising in popularity, and various manufacturers have started to bring out their own versions of the wedge pillow. But remember that there is a difference between ordinary wedge pillows and those that have been specifically designed for acid reflux relief. There are various cheap alternatives to wedge pillows available, but they are not capable of providing the support that therapeutic pillows do. That is why when purchasing a wedge pillow make sure it is meant for therapeutic use.

Here we look at the top 5 wedge pillows capable of providing elevation and support.

MedCline Wedge and Body Pillow Reflux Relief System

medcline pillow

The MedCline Reflux Relief System was created by Dr. Carl Melcher, a life-long sufferer of acid reflux. Dr. Melcher aimed to create a natural treatment alternative to nighttime reflux by creating the recommended incline + left-side sleeping position. This three-component sleep system has been studied extensively by the Cleveland Clinic in multiple clinical trials showing significantly more relief than a standard bed wedge.

The Sleep System is designed to keep sleepers on the left side throughout the night while keeping the torso elevated. This is one of those systems that prevent the sleeper from sliding down from the wedge pillow while providing support to the entire body with the help of the body pillow.

The tri-component system has a patented design to create an elevated and side sleeping position for relief from acid reflux. The system can also be used for snoring and sleep apnea. Because you aren’t going to slide down this pillow, you remain in the right position all night long and get maximum relief.

If you aren’t naturally a side sleeper, then the patented arm pocket of the Reflux Relief Wedge not only prevents you from sliding down the pillow but also prevents any pressure on your arms and shoulders. The body pillow prevents you from rolling onto your back, and also allows you to keep your knees tucked to take the pressure off the lower back. The pillowcases are included and can also be washed.

Medslant Acid Reflux Wedge Pillow

medlsant acid reflux pillow

A common complaint about wedge pillows is that they are too small or too narrow and do not offer enough room the spread or move about without sliding off. Most wedge pillows are the same size as a regular pillow designed only for the head and neck. However, wedge pillows are also meant to support and incline the torso, which isn’t possible if the size of the pillow is small. Even if a small wedge pillow is capable of providing the sleeper with enough inclination and support, it’s easy to slide off during the night because there is not enough room to move about.

This is where the MedSlant Wedge Pillow is a winner. Not only is this pillow longer than usual but is also 28 inches wide which is half the size of a queen bed. Although this pillow elevates the torso up to 7 inches, the gradual slope does not make the incline too steep.  Whether you are a back sleeper side sleeper or a combination sleeper who likes to move about during the night, this wedge pillow fits a number of different requirements. Made from a soy, polyurethane foam, it has a cushion of memory foam but also with a firm foundation layer underneath, with zero off-gassing. The zippered cover made of microfiber is easy to take off and wash and allows more breathability and airflow to keep you cool in any season. The size of this pillow offers you to adjust your sleeping position better, and also makes this a more suitable option for all kinds of sleepers.

How to Sleep If You Have Acid Reflux?

Because acid reflux is more common than many other conditions, it is one of the biggest causes behind disrupted sleep. Acid reflux can happen at any time during the day but is notorious for striking at night, just when you’re trying to sleep. This happens particularly when you consume a big heavy meal close to bedtime or smoke or drink or have a natural tendency for GERD. In some people, everything they eat gives them acid reflux. And the problem compounds at night, just when you’re lying down in a supine position. In such cases, medicines are not much help, and surgery needs to be done in order to get rid of chronic acid reflux.

Acid reflux or GERD is notorious for disrupting sleep quality. The heartburn, pain, and discomfort can keep you up for several nights if the problem persists. As a result, you are weary, sleepy, tired, and unable to feel comfortable because of the dyspepsia. There are actually people who go through this very frequently but don’t know what to do about it. Sleep position can have a vital role to play in managing nighttime acid reflux.

As several studies have already found, elevation is the key to battling nighttime GERD. The point is to prevent the stomach from sending its contents to the throat through the esophagus. When you keep your torso elevated, the stomach acids are unable to come up towards the throat.

When the acids reach the back of the throat or larynx, it prompts choking or a coughing fit, which wakes you up. You may also wake up when you get regurgitation when some amount of stomach acids come up into the mouth through the esophagus. All these aren’t pleasant things to experience when you’re trying to fall asleep.

GERD or acid reflux is also known to be a risk factor for sleep apnea, a respiratory disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts through the night when the person is asleep. It is believed that the acids cause spasms in the voice box, blocking the airways and preventing air from flowing into the lungs.

What makes matters worse is the mechanisms of sleep. Just the act of being flat on your back or side increases the risk or acid reflux. When you are in an upright position, sitting or standing, the force of gravity keeps the stomach acids from rising. When you are lying flat, it’s a lot easier for the stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus.

When a person is asleep, they swallow less frequently. As a result, the regular esophageal contractions that help keep food down in the stomach are slowed. When people are asleep, they also produce less saliva, which hinders the role it plays in keeping esophageal pH levels normal after acids are refluxed.

That means you must revise your sleeping position in order to prevent instances of acid reflux. We need to lay down in order to sleep, and it can’t be changed. But what can be done is to keep the torso elevated to prevent the stomach acids from flowing back towards the throat. And what better way to achieve this than with the help of a wedge pillow?

How High Should You Elevate Your Head?

Although elevation is key in preventing the risk of acid reflux, there are a few do’s and don’ts of inclining your torso. First and foremost, remember that keeping your body supported during sleep is more important than anything else. If you fail to keep your neck, spine, and shoulders supported while you sleep, you are going to hurt your posture, and end up with aches and pains. That’s even worse than acid reflux.

Before going out and buying a wedge pillow, remember that your torso shouldn’t be inclined any higher than six to eight inches. Yes, so that 12-inch pillow that you read about, keep the highest inclination only for the legs and stick to six to eight inches for the torso. Any higher and you have the risk of ending up with a stiff neck and sore back.

Sleeping on your back is also a risk factor for acid reflux. When you sleep on your back, the pressure created on the stomach helps drive the acids back into the esophagus. That is why you must have noticed that lying flat not only increases the discomfort but also makes you prone to regurgitation. If you’re overweight or obese, the risk is even greater. Overweight or obese people should avoid sleeping on their back to prevent instances of acid reflux.

Sleeping on the right side is also another factor that contributes to acid reflux. When you sleep on your right side, it relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter muscle, which tightens to prevent acid reflux. The loosening of these muscles increases the chances of acid reflux. Sleeping on the right side has also been found generally disruptive to sleep quality. Even if you do not suffer from acid reflux, you should practice sleeping on your left side.

In various studies, it has been found that sleeping on the left side is best for optimal sleep quality. Whether you have trouble falling asleep, suffer from constipation or are prone to snoring, sleeping on your left side can be much better for quality sleep.

How to Manage Nighttime Acid Reflux?

Nighttime GERD is most often caused by eating habits and aggravated by sleep positions. If you frequently suffer from nighttime acid reflux, try the following for relief:

Don’t Eat or Drink Too Close to Bedtime: This means you should stop eating and drinking at least two hours before going to bed. Also, make sure to avoid caffeine after 2 in the afternoon because it is also a potential cause for acid reflux at night.

Avoid Acidic Foods: There are plenty of foods that seem harmless but are actually acidic or cause acid reflux. From tomatoes to red wine to coffee to garlic, the list is never-ending. Make sure to avoid these foods before bedtime to reduce the chances of acid reflux.

Lose Weight: Excess weight and obesity is often a trigger for nighttime acid reflux, because of the pressure created on the abdomen. Losing weight, in that case, is the best solution to prevent acid reflux.

Wear loose clothing to bed: Wearing clothing that is too tight to bed constricts the stomach and makes digestion difficult. Remember to wear loose-fitting clothing to bed, to reduce instances of acid reflux.

GERD or acid reflux may be common, but it’s also easily manageable. Simply make some lifestyle changes and get a wedge pillow to elevate your torso and enjoy a better sleep every night.

Purple Plush Pillow by Purple

Purple is known for it’s strange and innovative products so when they decided to release a more traditional type of pillow, I wasn’t sure what to think. This pillow doesn’t claim to be everything that it’s not. It’s customizable, yes, that’s true but not in a way that would bore you and while it is a more traditional take on the pillow, it doesn’t claim to be yet another down-alternative pillow, because it isn’t and it doesn’t feel like one. It doesn’t have to.

Overview of the Purple Plush Pillow

Purple’s take on a more “Traditional Type” of pillow isn’t exactly traditional, which is why for Purple, it works. They don’t DO ordinary so there had to be something to this pillow that is uncommon. While it is a customizable or adjustable pillow, their approach is different when compared to how others in the industry choose to execute this type of product. Most adjustable pillows mean you pull a zipper to take out or put stuffing in. In Purple’s case, no amount of fill ever leaves the pillow. Instead, the firmness can be changed by pulling two zippers either open or closed. When both zippers are closed, the pillow has a firmer feel. When they are open, it has a softer feel.

For those who aren’t entirely convinced, the pillow comes with a 100-Night Trial and for those who choose to commit, it also comes with a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

It retails for $49 on their site and considering the brand and the feature of customization, it’s a really fair price. They could have asked for more, given the overall company reputation, but it’s nice they stayed within the realm of more-or-less middle class affordability.

purple plush pillow 100-night trial and 1-year limited warranty on box

Construction of the Purple Plush Pillow

The Purple Plush Pillow is composed of “interlocking denier poly fiber puff balls.” Don’t let the vocabulary sway you though. This is just Purple being unique and poetic with their wording. This is the industry standard pillow fill used in most non-down pillows that aren’t made of foam. Then again, I’m not an engineer and this poly fiber might be more special and specific to the pillow’s function than I’m aware of.

The cover is made of 60% Lyocell and 40% Nylon. It’s designed to be thermoregulating and moisture-wicking. It comes in only one size of 26” X 18” and while this was fine for me, it might not do the trick for larger people, as it is kind of standard. Too standard for Purple standards. It weighs 3.6 lbs and while that already sounds like too much, it’s actually crazy light. Light and fluffy like a cloud. I’ve tested quite a few pillows and this one is among those that weighed the least.

My Purple Plush Pillow Findings

I was absolutely stunned to find that the pillow isn’t just a gimmick. It seems too good to be true: a pillow whose loft is adjustable without needing to remove or add any filling. But how can that be? The best way I can explain the function of this pillow is to compare it to a closed bag filled with air.

The more air it has inside, the more compressed it’ll be so the firmer the bag will feel overall. The less air it has inside, the less compressed it’ll be so the softer the bag will feel if you were to lay or press on it. Despite the fact that this is a pretty simple concept that would make sense to most people, when it came to the application of it in the actual pillow itself, I was surprised the airflow, which is regulated by the opening or closing of zippers, made a difference in how the pillow felt. Structurally, it makes sense it would work but we’re not talking about a closed plastic bag filled with air, we’re talking about a pillow, something that requires airflow. I guess that’s where the engineers come in. So does it make a difference? Yes. Opening the zippers did in fact make it softer and closing them did make it firmer.

As for the other elements of the pillow and product overall, I give it an A+ all around. The packaging was discreet at the door but loud upon opening. I appreciate the branding effort Purple puts into their products (the bold color, the large font typeface, etc) and customer experience overall. The pillow cover material is lovely. It has a bright white color, a luxurious sheen and a soft pleasant touch. The zippers are premium quality, not something one has to fear will break easily.

I found it to be more supportive than a down pillow and more firmer than one too. For someone who needs solid neck support, I’m not 100% this will be enough but then again, I have more neck and shoulder spasms than anyone I know so I can’t deny that my disposition calls for some extra TLC.

As a side note, the pillow is FULLY washable which is a really nice feature.

My Purple Plush Pillow Recommendation

After having slept on the Purple Plush Pillow for about a week now, I have to say that I like it quite a lot. The ability to customize the loft by way of pulling two zippers is pretty incredible for someone who has changing needs or if it’s meant to serve as a gift. I like a softer feeling pillow and this one suits me just fine. The only thing I’m uncertain of is it’s thermoregulation. I have slept hot a few nights in a row with this pillow so I’m not sure what to make of it. Unfortunately when it comes to that, that’s something in which results do vary but I do like the pillow and I’m not looking to give it away anytime soon.

The Luxe Pillow

The Luxe Pillow is a new approach to the traditional pillow. Its most appealing asset is its unique construction, which involves three separate chambers within the pillow. It looks like any other ordinary pillow but its central core is what allows it to provide the support that other pillows might not be able to.

Overview of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow packaging and unboxing

The Luxe Pillow is available in goose down, as well as in a poly-fiber gel, a high-quality goose down alternative. Both pillow types are available in standard and king sizes. Luxe Pillow offers free shipping and returns on their items, a 100-night no risk sleep trial, and they use responsibly sourced goose down. This matters because responsibly sourced isn’t just an indication of company values but of a higher quality product overall.

Construction of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow unboxing and review

The Luxe Poly FiberGel Down Alternative Pillow is available in both Standard and King sizes.

For it’s construction, there is a dedicated core that’s been chiseled out, along with two additional chambers. This core provides stability, not allowing it to fall flat like other pillows might. It is also much more subtle in design than I realized and practically speaking, this is a plus as it’s not something distracting. I tried pushing down on the pillow hoping to find it but couldn’t exactly. I think the subtlety matters. It’s not supposed to be noticeable, it’s just supposed to be effective. That’s the point!

My Luxe Pillow Findings

luxe pillow detail

Luxe Pillow uses sustainably sourced white goose down and small-game waterfowl feather. The way they’ve designed it, to give you the best bang for your buck, is they filled the supportive core with high-quality waterfowl feather, which refers typically to ducks or similar animals, waterfowl are animals that like and live by the water. These types of feathers are either denser or more affordable so they can use larger quantities of it to create that internal support. The two external chambers are filled with goose down to provide the unique softness it’s known for. Despite the feathers, these pillows are certified to be hypo-allergenic and there is a 300 Thread Count Pillow Protector included.

For their down alternative pillows, they use Poly Fiber Gel which is an absolutely wonderful substitute. As someone who regularly sleeps with down pillows, I wouldn’t exaggerate.

To see my thoughts on the Down Alternative Pillow by Luxe Pillow, and to see me compare it to a Goose Down (and only Goose Down) Pillow, take a look at the video below that debuted on the Yawnder YouTube Channel.

The Luxe Pillow® vs The Pillow Guy: Construction, Price & Packaging Comparison

I consider the Pillow Guy company to be a direct competitor because of how similar these price points are, as well as because both cater their marketing to those interested in luxury living and therefore those looking to purchase luxury goods.

In terms of price, Pillow Guy is definitely the more expensive brand. Luxe Pillow, on the other hand, is still trying to bring value to its customers. The biggest differentiating factor in terms of price between these two brands lies in the price of their goose down pillows. I’m including the chart below to help you better understand these costs more clearly.

PILLOW TYPE THE LUXE PILLOW PILLOW GUY PILLOW
Standard Goose Down Pillow $129 $189
King Goose Down Pillow $149 $239
Set of 2 Standard Down Pillows $229

(Saves you $29)

$329

(Saves you $49)

Set of 2 King Down Pillows Not available in King size $449

(Saves you $29)

Standard Poly-Fiber Gel Pillow $79 $79
King Poly-Fiber Gel Pillow $99 $99
Set of 2 Standard Poly Fiber Pillows $139

(Saves you $19)

$149

(Saves you $9)

Set of 2 King Poly Fiber Pillows Not available in King size $179

(Saves you $19)

The reason for these price differences in the goose down products can vary. I’m assuming that it can come down to either quantity/weight of goose down, the quality of the goose down, advertising costs or simply a matter of brand perception.

With the Luxe pillow, the core of their down pillows does contain small-game waterfowl feather. This difference in composition might be what cuts cost for Luxe Pillow, allowing them to charge less for it. Goose-down in the states certainly falls on the higher end of the spectrum, typically of which consumers are well aware of.

The way I see it is if you’re particular about how you like things and you “MUST HAVE GOOSE DOWN,” I’m assuming you’ll disregard the price in exchange for getting what you want. If you, however, want to keep an open mind and are looking to save a little bit of money then the Luxe Pillow is a great alternative. We are talking about a $100 difference for a set of 2 Standard Down Pillows, for example.

luxe pillow branding

Both companies charging the same price for their down alternative pillows makes a lot of sense, being that they’re both constructed with the same material, poly-fiber gel. Their costs for this must be close to identical depending on the quantities it’s being purchased in but I’ll tell you first hand, poly-fiber gel feels amazing. It felt amazing with the Pillow Guy Pillow and it feels amazing with the Luxe Pillow too. I think that both companies offer these at reasonable rates considering these are higher end products that are beautifully constructed.

One thing that stood out tremendously to me is the difference in packaging, referring to the initial experience a consumer has with a company’s product. The Pillow Guy packaging was rather plain but Luxe Pillow went all out and something like this makes all the difference for me. Check out my review of the Pillow Guy Pillow to see what I’m referring to.

My Luxe Pillow Recommendation

luxe pillow letter from founder

Overall I’m quite impressed with the Luxe Pillow and it’s creators. The one thing that’s missing is their company story. I’m curious to learn what it is. Their website doesn’t have an “about” section and that’s a great place where a company can gradually build rapport with consumers. In this time and age brand loyalty is gained not just through the creation of great products but by sharing the WHY of what they do. Simon Sinek elaborates greatly on this topic in his Ted Talk entitled, “How great leaders inspire action.” Companies that are willing to share the story behind who they are and what they make are more likely to provoke an emotional reaction from their customers. Right now, Luxe Pillow, to me, does not have a face and I think it should be wearing someone’s. In my opinion, that’s all they need.

Overview of the Cubes Pillow

The Cubes Pillow is a collaboration between F1F2 and Nightform Lab. It is the world’s first geometric structure pillow that is made of 70 internal and connected cubes. This is a pillow in which you will not find shredded foam or goose down feathers. It’s construction is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and it even has 2 reversible sides to suit any sleeper, one that is firm and one that is soft. This type of interchangeability is just one out of many of it’s impressive features.

The creators have been on a 2 year journey from it’s initial design to their first shipment of the product.

Construction of the Cubes Pillow

The Cubes Pillow comes in 1 size only and measures 22 x 14 x 4 inches. It weighs 500g and is constructed with graphene nanocomposite foam which can also otherwise be classified as 100% polyurethane. The pillow comes with a modal fiber sleeve made of 95% modal jersey fabric and 5% spandex. The spandex portion means it’s best that it’s air dried, since the heat of a dryer will burn through these fibers. The pillow itself cannot be washed

My Cubes Pillow Findings

The most impressive thing about The Cubes Pillow is how much intention it was designed with. It’s creators have made a valiant effort in proving and educating others on how their pillow is different and why it’s better. There has been countless scientific research that has gone into its creation and refinement. Their marketing effort alone is evidence that their intention isn’t to sell but to inform consumers.

The individual materials used in the Cubes Pillow creation have been specifically chosen for how they can aid in a restful sleep. The graphene nanocomposite foam that they’ve used is designed specifically to be thermoregulating, bacteria resistant and odor controlling. The actual structure of the pillow itself also has purpose behind it. The connected cube formation helps to keep you cool at night since it promotes breathability aka air ventilation.

The structure of the pillow itself does a lot for a sleeper being that it’s created with stress relieving memory foam. Along with the helpful properties of the foam, the Cubes Pillow patented hinge structure “elevates the level of support from two-dimensional to three-dimensional.” Each cube is designed to work as a spring, providing legitimate 360-degree support. When all of these cubes work together, they can both individually and collectively support any weight that is applied to it. This also makes it easy for the pillow to bounce back to its original shape.

Additionally, the modal pillowcase is designed with a high tech fabric that is moisture wicking and also breathable, which further allows one to sleep cool.

The Cubes Pillow has been found to help with snoring issues, insomnia, and also in extending stage 3 and stage 4 of sleep, which are known to be the deep sleep stages which provide the most restorative sleep.

My Cubes Pillow Recommendation

The Cubes Pillow is not a novelty item. This pillow is the future.

The Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow is yet another product in the galaxy of customizable pillows. It doesn’t look very different from other customizable pillows but what is different is the ventilated viscoelastic hybrid foam inside of it. Unlike many customizable pillows, this is not one that will leave behind any type of mess, being that you’re working with 4 separate pieces of foam to build the pillow to your liking. The Polysleep Pillow comes with a 30-night trial, meaning that if you aren’t fully satisfied with your purchase than Polysleep will refund you in full.

Overview of the Polysleep Pillow

Here’s a quick video overview of the pillow including unboxing:

The first thing that I like about the pillow is that it doesn’t contain a lot of little pieces. This can get messy whether you’re taking out a lot of foam or even just a little. Polysleep has 4 different layers inside of it, each made up of its own layer of foam. It’s sold at a super reasonable price which is $59 USD and I do believe that you’re getting your money’s worth. It’s made up of a hybrid memory foam which means it’s a newer generation of memory foam.

Construction of the Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow comes in one size which is 19″ x 26″. Just from a quick look, it seems to be within perfectly normal industry standards. Some pillows can be too long or too small, almost as if by accident like they JUST missed the mark. Not in this case. One size for their pillow is all they need, especially with the intention it was designed for, such as ease of use and personal customization.

The measurements of the 4 layers are:

  • 1 piece that measures 1”
  • 1 piece that measures 1 ¼”
  • 2 pieces that measure ¾”

The pillow has a 100% cotton sleeve on the outside, along with inner polyester microfiber inner layer to give it some volume and softness.  It has 400mg of microfiber fill to give it that cotton-cloud-like luxurious feel.

My Polysleep Pillow Findings

One of the things that confused me the most was what Polysleep meant when they classified their foam as “viscoelastic hybrid foam.” I was reading that foam is either viscoelastic, making it a memory foam, or it’s not, making it a hybrid foam or something else altogether, such as latex foam. But as with most things we don’t understand, all you have to do is ask. I spoke with Polysleep and I was educated about how we were dealing with a newer generation of memory foam. Memory foam was initially invented in the 60’s and while it had some positive properties, it had some negatives as well. For instance, most memory foams don’t react well to temperature but Polyleep’s is resistant to temperature change. It also withstands wear and tear much better than original memory foam since it has better density. The foam density is 3 lbs per square foot. The term “visco” means water-like and it would explain why it had an interesting wet-but-not-really feel. As juvenile as the made-up term is, it’s the best way I could possibly explain it. Let’s not forget the other part of the word “viscoelastic,” which is the elastic part. This pillow is malleable, meaning you can roll it and fold it but it’ll also bounce back almost instantly despite the pressure exerted on it.

One big negative for me is that the pillow is not washable by traditional method. The outer cover of the pillow also cannot be washed but it can be spot cleaned and it can also be machine dried, however only at a very low temperature.

This is fine for people who can afford, and don’t mind, to replace their pillow every couple of months but for people looking to hold onto something for a while, I’m not sure it’s ideal.

While the concept of the customizable pillow experience is not new, their hybrid foam does seem to be.

One recommendation that I have for Polysleep, which could be seen as really appealing on the consumer’s end, would be to devise a “cleaning kit” or cleaning guideline book to go along w/ the release of this or any pillow. While I’m aware that a majority of foams cannot be washed in the traditional way most of us are familiar with (aka, soap + water), apparently memory foam + hybrid foams can be cleaned via alternate methods but I did not have a chance to inquire about theirs.

When it comes to these newly released generations of foam, the company engineering the material really have ALL the power in how the general public will perceive it. I am talking about more than a good slogan. There is an opportunity to educate people on how to do things differently when it comes to materials that quite simply just did not exist before.

My Polysleep Pillow Recommendation

When I first saw the Polysleep Pillow I didn’t think I would be impressed. I am usually all about clever marketing and I love how companies can get creative when they share products with the mass public but I wasn’t exactly impressed or moved by theirs. Being told that a pillow can cater to every personality felt a little silly to me but I do understand what they were getting at. If it were to cater to “every sleeper,” sure, but the wording didn’t gauge much of a reaction from me. Regardless of what the marketing campaign has to say, that’s a criticism to their marketing department, not to their pillow and definitely not to their engineering team.

It’s such a cliche but the pillow does speak for itself. Actually, I was prepared to dislike your product but ended up actually liking it. I suppose it’s easy to think you’ve made up your mind about something only to then have it beg you to reconsider. What can I say? You win.
