An Honest Helix Pillow Review from the Sleep Experts at Yawnder

Helix Pillow Review

The Helix pillow is an adjustable pillow with two options, the original Helix Pillow and the Helix Cool which has a phase change fabric in the cover that is cool to the touch. A standard size retails for $85 while a King size sells for $99. The pillow comes with a 100 night sleep trial which is super generous for a pillow. This means if you don’t like it within the 100 days, returns are free and you get all your money back.

Ordering Your Helix Pillows

After placing your order through the Helix website, your pillow should arrive in about 5 business days. Here’s a picture of the box my pillows arrived in.

When you open the box you will find your pillow plastic wrapped to keep it clean and a nice little booklet explaining how to adjust the pillow.

Helix Pillow Unboxing

Overview of the Helix Pillows

In the video below I break down the main difference between the regular helix pillow and the Helix Cool. Basically, the Helix Cool uses a phase change material which makes the pillow feel cool while the original uses a knitted fabric. I found the original to be just a bit softer because the knit fabric was more stretchy.

Construction of the Helix Pillow

Below are the construction specifications of the pillow according to their website.

Outer Comfort Shell

  • 1lb Memory foam and Down Alternative on each side
  • 1.25” gusset to allow for adjustable loft
  • Standard and cooling outer cover fabric available

Support Insert Layers

  • Two 1lb Memory foam and Down Alternative insert layers
  • Designed to fit perfectly within the Outer Comfort Shell

How Much Does the Helix Pillow Cost?

Here are the current prices of the Helix Pillow

Regular Pillow
Standard $85
King $99

Cool Pillow
Standard $115
King $129

My Helix Pillow Findings

Both of these pillows come with a zipper to access the inside of the pillow. This allows you to adjust the loft so you can get optimal spinal alignment.

Here’s a peek inside the pillow where you can see each of the layers. There’s lots of detail here including the dots on the inside. It just makes the pillow look nicer and is more fun. I kept all the layers in the pillow since I have broad shoulders and need a thicker pillow.

Helix Pillow Inside

Here’s what the cover of the regular Helix pillow looks like. It’s a knit fabric that is breathable and stretchy.

Regular Helix Pillow

Here’s a picture of the Helix Cool cover for comparison. The Helix Cool is definitely cooler to the touch and great for hot sleepers. These pillows have the same inside construction.

Helix Cool Pillow

Does the Helix Pillow Sleep Hot?

No. In fact both versions didn’t trap heat but the cool version did add some extra cooling comfort and is worth the upgrade if you tend to sleep hot. Below are some videos shot with my infrared came to illustrate the point.

Here’s the regular Helix Pillow

And here is how the Cool pillow fares.

My Helix Pillow Recommendation

The Helix pillow is a very cozy adjustable pillow. I think what makes the regular pillow extra cozy is the knit stretch fabric. This gives you maximum contouring. They also use a combination of foam and down alternative this makes it feel more like a traditional pillow instead of just a block of foam. The Helix will feel like a nice thick down pillow that is more supportive than a traditional down pillow during the night.

A key advantage the Helix Pillow has over some of the competition is that it is easy to adjust the loft. There are other pillows on the market where you can adjust the fill but you would need to put the fill in a Ziploc bag for storage. With the helix, you simply remove one of the 3 layers.

Given the generous trial and it’s familiar feel with the key advantages of customization and cooling, the Helix pillow is a must try.

Angel Sleeper Pillow Review: Honest Take

Angel Sleeper by Copper Fit

Ben here. I’m usually the first guy to roll his eyes at "As Seen on TV" sleep products. They often promise the moon and deliver cheap foam. But you guys keep asking me about the Angel Sleeper Pillow by Copper Fit, specifically the commercials claiming it fixes everything for side and back sleepers.

Angel Sleeper Pillow Review

So, I bought one. No freebies here. I ordered the standard size ($40) to see if it deserves a spot on your bed or if it’s just marketing fluff.

The Yawnder Verdict

Is it worth it? Maybe. If you are a back sleeper or a petite side sleeper on a budget, it’s a decent value.

The "Gotcha": If you have broad shoulders (like me), this pillow is a hard pass. It physically lacks the loft (height) to fill the gap between your ear and the mattress, which is a recipe for neck pain. For the same price, I’d point you toward more substantial options.

My Score: 7.2/10

Unboxing: Better Than Expected?

I expected a chemical smell and a long wait. To my surprise, the shipping—which they warned would take 3 weeks—arrived in 4 days. Underpromise and overdeliver? I can respect that.

It wasn't vacuum sealed, which is rare these days. This meant zero off-gassing time. You can literally sleep on it the night it arrives. It comes in a reusable zippered pouch, which is a nice touch for storage.

Angel Sleeper Pillow Front View The unique "butterfly" shape is designed to accommodate your arms.

The "Science" vs. My Experience

At my showroom in Encinitas, I tell everyone: Alignment is king. If your spine isn't straight, you aren't hitting deep sleep.

The Angel Sleeper uses a dual-sided design:

  • The Shallow Side: Supposed to be for side sleeping.
  • The Sloped Side: Designed to cradle the neck for back sleeping.

The Back Sleeping Test

I track my Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and sleep stages religiously. When I used this for back sleeping, my numbers held steady. The slope actually feels great—it supports the cervical curve without pushing your head forward. If you snore or have mild apnea, this posture can sometimes help open the airway.

The Side Sleeping Fail

Here is where it fell short—literally. I have a bigger frame. When I rolled onto my side, the pillow compressed too much. My head dipped, straining my neck muscles. To get comfortable, I had to put my arm under the pillow to prop it up, which cuts off circulation. If you are broad-shouldered, this is not the "Angel" you are looking for.

Angel Sleeper Pillow Thickness Check You can see the loft is relatively low, especially on the edges.

Under the Hood: Materials & Maintenance

The cover is removable and machine washable, which is non-negotiable for hygiene. It unzips easily from the bottom.

The core is a squishy, closed-cell memory foam.

The Foam: It looks like a standard molded memory foam. It’s "squishy"—technical term—but lacks the high-density responsiveness of a Tempur-Pedic. However, for $40, it’s acceptable.

Copper Infusion: They claim the copper-infused cover reduces odors. I can’t verify the microbial science in my showroom, but it stayed fresh during my testing period.

Pros & Cons Breakdown

What I Liked

  • Great cervical support for back sleepers
  • No chemical "new foam" smell
  • Arm cutouts are clever for "pillow huggers"
  • Price point is very accessible ($40)

What I Didn't Like

  • Too thin for average/broad side sleepers
  • Return policy fees (shipping + restocking)
  • Foam is soft; lacks heavy-duty support

How It Stacks Up (The Competition)

Before you pull the trigger, here is how the Angel Sleeper compares to what we typically see winning awards at Yawnder.

Pillow Model Price Best For... Ben's Take
Angel Sleeper ~$40 Back Sleepers / Petite Good value, but specific fit required.
Coop Home Goods Eden ~$80 Everyone My top pick. It's adjustable, so you can make it fit your shoulders.
Tempur-Pedic Neck ~$89 Neck Pain Relief Much firmer. Better for serious orthopedic issues.
Sleep Innovations ~$40 Budget Contour Similar to Angel, but lacks the copper marketing.

Ready to try it?

If you fit the profile (Back sleeper or smaller side sleeper), it's a safe buy—but I recommend using Amazon for the smoother return policy just in case.

Copper Fit Angel Pillow FAQs

Q: What is the Copper Fit Angel Pillow?

The Copper Fit Angel Pillow is a memory foam pillow infused with copper. It's designed with a unique butterfly shape to cradle your neck and head for better support and alignment.

Q: How does it work?

It uses a specific contour shape to align the spine, while the copper-infused cover is marketed to reduce odors and bacteria. The memory foam adapts to your pressure points, although I found it works best for back sleepers.

Q: What are the main benefits?

The primary benefits are cervical support (neck relief) and the hygiene factor of the machine-washable, copper-infused cover. It's also hypoallergenic.

Q: Who is this pillow best for?

It is best suited for back sleepers and petite side sleepers. If you have broad shoulders, the loft may not be high enough for side sleeping.

Q: Is it easy to clean?

Yes, the cover zips off and is machine washable. You cannot wash the memory foam core itself.

Q: Is it worth the money?

At around $40, it is a low-risk investment compared to $100+ premium pillows. If you fit the specific sleep profile (back sleeper), it is good value.

Snorinator Pillow Review: My Real World Testing

Updated May 2026 — Re-tested with my current CPAP setup; results below reflect the latest 30 nights.

A posture based anti snoring pillow featured on Shark Tank designed to elevate the upper body and help keep the airway open during sleep.

Snorinator Pillow Review

The Snorinator pillow works by elevating the upper body and keeping the head in a stable position that helps keep the airway open. I tested the Snorinator pillow for two weeks with and without CPAP to see if posture alone can reduce snoring. See results, photos, comfort notes, and my verdict.

Quick answers

Is it worth trying

Yes if your snoring is posture related and you want a simple non device solution before exploring more complex treatments.

Best for

  • Back sleepers who snore
  • People who slide down wedge pillows
  • CPAP users wanting upright support

Not ideal for

  • Strict side sleepers
  • Travel use
  • Medical apnea treatment

Testing period

Two weeks alternating nights with and without CPAP.

9.2
Yawnder overall rating
★★★★★

Strong posture support that can reduce snoring for many back sleepers and offers more stability than typical wedge pillows.

Tester notes

I purchased the Snorinator myself and tested it for two weeks in my own bedroom. I alternated nights using the pillow with CPAP and nights without CPAP to see how much posture alone could affect snoring. My focus was real world comfort, breathing changes, and stability compared with standard pillows and wedges.

Over the years I have tested many pillows designed to reduce snoring. Most focus on neck alignment or simple elevation. The Snorinator focuses on full torso support and head stability so the airway stays more open during sleep.

The Snorinator upright pillow on bed

If your snoring gets worse when you sleep flat on your back, posture can be a major factor. This review walks through what changed for me in real use, where it helped, and what to watch out for before you buy.

How I tested the Snorinator pillow

To evaluate how effective posture alone could be, I tested the Snorinator pillow for two weeks with and without CPAP. The goal was to see whether elevation and head stability could reduce snoring without relying entirely on CPAP therapy.

Snorinator Sleep Upright pillow retail box on display before unboxing

Testing methodology

All testing was done at home in my normal bedroom environment. That matters because posture pillows can feel very different in real sleep than they do in a quick living room test.

  • Fourteen nights of home testing
  • Seven nights with CPAP
  • Seven nights without CPAP
  • Snoring recordings reviewed nightly
  • Comfort and sleep continuity notes logged each morning

I also paid attention to common wedge problems like sliding down, neck strain, and chin drop since those issues often limit how long people stick with elevation pillows.

First impressions

The Snorinator feels more like a structured backrest than a standard pillow. It is dense and supportive and holds its shape. The size is substantial, especially the larger option, but that bulk is part of what makes it stable.

Snorinator side angle close up

If you have ever stacked pillows to sleep more upright, you know the problem. They shift, collapse, and you end up flat again. The Snorinator is designed to prevent that by supporting the torso and keeping the head from tipping forward.

Snorinator anti-snoring pillow positioned upright on a mattress in the Yawnder showroom

Firmness and support feel

The foam is firm compared with typical pillows. This is not a plush sink in feel. Instead you get a stable surface that keeps you elevated. Once I adjusted to the firmness, the stability became the main benefit.

  • Stable upper body support throughout the night
  • Head stays elevated with less forward slump
  • Less sliding down than most wedges

If you prefer very soft pillows, expect an adjustment period of a few nights.

Testing without CPAP

On nights without CPAP, the upright position made breathing feel easier compared with sleeping flat. My snore recordings showed reduced intensity on several nights. This makes sense since elevation can reduce airway collapse for some people.

Snorinator in use in upright position
  • Less intense snoring on multiple nights
  • Fewer wake ups from airway restriction feeling
  • More consistent posture through the night

This is not a medical device and it will not fix obstructive sleep apnea on its own. But if your snoring is heavily posture driven, this can be a meaningful change.

Testing with CPAP

With CPAP, the Snorinator helped stabilize my head and shoulders. That reduced mask movement for me. When the mask shifts less, leaks are less likely. I also found it easier to relax upright before sleep and keep the hose routed in a consistent path.

Snorinator CPAP setup example
  • Fewer leaks for me
  • More stable head position
  • Comfortable posture for reading and wind down time

If you use CPAP and struggle with mask leaks when you change positions, the stability benefit can be just as valuable as any snoring reduction.

Who this pillow is best for

  • Back sleepers with posture related snoring
  • People who slide down wedge pillows
  • CPAP users wanting better head stability
  • Anyone who sleeps better slightly elevated

If you are a strict side sleeper, you may not love it. Some people can adapt with a body pillow for side support, but the design is clearly optimized for upright back sleeping.

How it compares

Pillow type Snore effect Comfort Ease Notes
Standard wedge Moderate Fair Easy Often causes sliding and chin drop
Contour pillow Low Good Very easy Supports neck but does not elevate torso
CPAP cutout pillow High with CPAP Good Medium Helps mask comfort but not posture stability
Snorinator High Very good Simple Stable upright support and guided head position

Verdict

After two weeks of testing, the Snorinator proved to be one of the most effective posture based snoring solutions I have tried. It offers stable upright support and can reduce snoring for many back sleepers. It also pairs well with CPAP by improving stability and reducing mask movement for me.

Best Wedge Pillows for Acid Reflux & GERD Relief

acid reflux pillow reviews

The Midnight Burn: Why Acid Reflux Ruining Your Sleep

It’s your best friend’s birthday. You finally head to that new Italian spot in Encinitas you’ve been eyeing. You dine with mindless abandon—garlic pasta, spicy sausage, and plenty of red wine. You return home fully sated, ready for a coma-like sleep. But the moment you lie flat, it hits you like a freight train.

Acid reflux.

I’ve been there. As someone who obsessively tracks my heart health and HRV (Heart Rate Variability), I can tell you that nothing tanks your recovery score faster than a night spent fighting your own stomach. We’ve all been in that situation—gobbling down food and washing it down with alcohol, only to spend the night pacing the floor.

Acid reflux isn't just "uncomfortable." It’s a sleep killer. And if you aren't sleeping, you aren't recovering. While I usually advocate for adjustable bases here at our showroom (1441 Encinitas Blvd—come say hi), I know not everyone is ready to drop cash on a new frame. That’s where the humble wedge pillow comes in.

The Yawnder Verdict: Elevation is Key

If you want straight talk: Gravity is the only free cure for acid reflux. When you lie flat, the gate between your stomach and esophagus (the LES) fails, and acid spills out. Elevating your torso is a mechanical fix that works instantly. Don't just stack normal pillows—that kinks your neck and airway. You need a dedicated wedge or an adjustable base.

What Is Acid Reflux (GERD)?

Before we talk gear, let's talk biology. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is characterized by a burning sensation in the throat or chest. It happens when the lower esophageal sphincter is weak or relaxed when it shouldn't be.

The Mechanics: It is often caused by a hiatal hernia, where part of the stomach pushes up above the diaphragm. When you eat, the diaphragm muscle relaxes to let food down. In people with GERD, it doesn't tighten back up, allowing stomach contents to reverse course. This causes:

  • Indigestion and bloating
  • Heartburn and chest pain
  • A sour taste in the mouth
About 60% of Americans deal with this annually. It’s a massive issue that requires more than just popping Tums.

Do Wedge Pillows Actually Work for GERD?

Yes, and here is why. While antacids neutralize the acid already there, they don't stop the flow. Elevation stops the flow.

Studies confirm that elevating the head and torso prevents stomach contents from traveling up the esophagus. But—and this is critical—you cannot just stack standard pillows. That creates a "C" shape in your spine, increasing abdominal pressure (which makes reflux worse) and straining your neck. You need a linear incline of 6 to 8 inches to keep the acid down without wrecking your back.

Top 5 Best Wedge Pillows for Acid Reflux (2026)

As the team behind the "Best Mattress Store" in San Diego, we look for support, material quality, and durability. Here are the top contenders.

1. MedCline Reflux Relief System

MedCline Reflux Relief System for GERD and Side Sleepers

Best for: Side Sleepers & Serious GERD

This isn't just a pillow; it's a medical device. It uses a patented arm pocket to allow you to sleep on your left side (the clinically preferred side for digestion) without crushing your shoulder. It helps with snoring too. It’s expensive, but it works.

2. FitPlus Premium Wedge

Best for: Value & Simplicity

A solid entry-level option. It features a polyurethane foam base with a 1.5-inch memory foam topper. It gives you a 7.5-inch incline which is the sweet spot for keeping acid down without feeling like you're standing up.

3. MedSlant Wedge Pillow

Best for: Active Sleepers

Most wedges are too narrow (24 inches). The MedSlant is 28 inches wide—half the width of a Queen bed. If you move around a lot, this prevents you from rolling off the "cliff" in the middle of the night. Zero off-gassing and made in the USA.

4. Xtra-Comfort Bed Wedge

Best for: Versatility

This is a folding wedge that can go up to 12 inches high. Warning: 12 inches is too high for sleeping (your neck will hate you), but it’s great for reading or watching TV before you slide it down to sleep mode.

5. Xtreme Comforts Bamboo Wedge

Best for: Hot Sleepers

A 7-inch incline with a bamboo cover. Bamboo is naturally breathable, which helps if you tend to sleep hot. It uses a 30-degree angle which is steep, but effective for severe apnea.

Ben's Tips for Managing Nighttime GERD

A pillow is a tool, but you need to fix the habits too if you want to protect your sleep quality (and your esophagus).

  • The 2-Hour Rule: Stop eating and drinking 2 hours before bed. Period. This gives your stomach time to empty before you lie horizontal.
  • Left Side is Best: Sleeping on your right side relaxes the LES muscle, letting acid slip through. If you aren't naturally a side sleeper, a wedge can help lock you in.
  • Watch the Triggers: You know the list—caffeine, spicy food, alcohol, garlic. If you indulge, prioritize the incline that night.
  • Weight Management: Abdominal pressure pushes acid up. Even losing a few pounds (or not eating a heavy meal late) can relieve that pressure significantly.
  • Adjustable Bases: If you are tired of building a pillow fort, look into an adjustable base. We sell them at Yawnder because they are the ultimate lifestyle hack—press a button, lift the head, and say goodbye to heartburn.

Cushion Lab Review and Buyer's Guide

This is a practical rundown of Cushion Lab after years of testing in the showroom and at home. What they make, how it feels, what it costs right now, and where it stacks up against similar gear.

Shop Cushion Lab
Overview

What Cushion Lab does well

The brand focuses on shaped memory foam with washable covers and targeted zones for the neck, shoulder, tailbone, and lower back. The promise is simple: less pressure and more stable posture during sleep, desk work, driving, and travel.

Experience

Five year notes from daily use

  • Shaped pillows help when the height matches your body. Too tall and it can crank the neck. Too low and support fades. Sizing matters more than brand claims.
  • Seat cushions pair best with a lumbar pillow and proper chair height. The combo reduces fidgeting during long sessions at a desk.
  • Covers wash well. Foam cores hold firmness for a long time if you rotate and air them out now and then.
  • Travel pieces shine on red eye flights and long drives. Window seat sleepers often prefer the softer travel pillow. Aisle seat sleepers tend to prefer the one with chin support.
  • Returns are straightforward but the customer usually pays return shipping. This catches people by surprise, so plan your trial with that in mind.

Common complaints and how to avoid them

  • Return costs surprise people. The window is usually thirty days and the customer pays return shipping. If you are on the fence, start with one item rather than a bundle.
  • Fit issues lead to mixed reviews. A seat cushion that is too tall for a short desk height can cause hip tilt. Adjust chair height and consider the Large size only when your seat pan is deep.
  • Loft mismatch on pillows. If you are narrow shouldered, the tall side of a contour can feel too aggressive. Measure shoulder width and pick the lower loft option when in doubt.
  • Expectation gaps on cooling. Memory foam sleeps more neutral than icy. If you are a very hot sleeper, consider a pillow with stronger airflow or a pillow with channels rather than a solid block.

FAQs

Questions shoppers ask most

Is Cushion Lab legit and do major outlets cover them?

Yes. The brand appears in large roundups and buyer guides. Always check dates on those lists since models and prices change.

What pillow should I choose for neck pain?

Match height to your body and position. Side sleepers with broad shoulders usually need a taller edge. Back sleepers usually need a lower notch with a gentle neck ramp.

Will the bamboo sheets fit a deep mattress?

The fitted sheet works up to about fifteen inch depth. Measure your mattress before you buy.

How do I clean the products?

Remove the cover and machine wash on gentle. Air dry the cover. Do not wash foam cores. Spot clean cores and let them fully air out.

What if I only want a replacement cover?

Replacement covers are offered for select items and colors. Check the add on options on the product page.

How we evaluate comfort

We look at fit first. That means matching loft and firmness to body size, sleep position, chair height, seat depth, and driving posture. We check pressure relief and neck angle, then reassess after a week of use to see if foam has settled.

Honeydew Sleep is a family-owned, California based company that sells innovative pillows that are made with some of the best materials available. I first met the founders of Honeydew 3 years ago and they truly are a family-run enterprise. They have been working in the sleep space for over 30 years and Honeydew represents their response to customer demand for a quality pillow.

By working directly with customers and listening to their needs in a pillow, Honeydew Sleep has produced a solid lineup of pillows that should have near-universal appeal.

Overview of the Honeydew Scrumptious and Essence Pillows

Here’s a video overview of the two pillows and the differences between the two.

Your pillows arrive in a box with attractive packaging.

It includes instructions maintenance and how to get the most out of your pillow.

The pillow is vacuum-sealed and rolled to save space. It inflates quickly and is ready to use right away. You also get a couple of pillowcases that are made from a bamboo fiber for a silky and breathable feel.

honeydew box contents

These pillows come with a 60-day trial which means you get to test it out for about 2 months to see if it’s a good fit. If you don’t like it, it’s a free return. If you decide to keep it, you a covered by a 3-year warranty that covers any defects in materials or workmanship, not normal wear and tear.

How Much Do Honeydew Pillows Cost?

Currently, the Scrumptious pillow retails for $99 while the Essence pillow retails for $79.

Construction of the Honeydew Pillow

Here you can see what’s inside the pillow. This pillow is made from cut foam and polyester fibers. These materials are becoming more common in high-end pillows because that mix is so comfortable and customizable. If you want a thinner pillow, simply pull some out and store it in a Ziploc bag for later use.

Although these materials are common, it is clear that Honeydew is using premium foam and it is cut in a consistent diamond pattern in small pieces. This gives the pillow a consistent feel, no lumps, and better contouring.

My Honeydew Pillow Findings

People who have broad shoulders should go with the Scrumptious model over the Essence. Inside they use the same materials but the Scrumptious as a gusseted edge making it thicker while the Essence has a knife-edge design for people that want a lower profile.

Honeydew pillow comparison

Both pillows I received have a shoulder cut out which is ideal for side sleeping. Honeydew also makes a standard shaped pillow.

honeydew 4

Because of the unique design, you get custom shaped pillowcases that will curve towards the bottom. In a pinch you can always use a standard pillowcase, it really won’t take away from the feel.

honeydew pillowcase

Both the pillowcase and the pillow have zippers. Having a zipper on the pillowcase ensures that it won’t come loose from the pillow. The pillowcases you receive have a silky feel and are very breathable. You can choose the color below or white.

My Honeydew Recommendation

While there are pillows similar to Honeydew, I haven’t come across one that is this affordable. The side sleeper pillows I tried are truly unique and I strongly recommend them for dedicated side sleepers that may have neck or shoulder pain. Neck and shoulder pain are often indicative of a pillow not providing adequate support. Because the pillows are customizable, breathable, and affordable, they should be one of your first considerations. If you don’t like them you can always return them for a full refund within the trial period.

The Honeydew Scrumptious Side Sleeping Pillow is a great option for side sleepers who are looking for a supportive and comfortable pillow. It’s made with a shredded memory foam fill that conforms to your head and neck, and it has a curved design that cradles your shoulders. It’s also hypoallergenic and machine-washable.

Here are a few other pillows that are similar to the Honeydew Scrumptious Side Sleeping Pillow:

    • Coop Home Goods Eden Cool+ Cut-Out Pillow: This pillow is also made with shredded memory foam, but it has a unique cooling gel feature that helps to keep you cool at night. It also has a shoulder cut-out design that provides additional support for your shoulders.
Image of Coop Home Goods Eden Cool+ CutOut Pillow
    • Casper Hybrid Pillow: This pillow is a hybrid of latex foam and fiberfill, which gives it a unique feel that is both soft and supportive. It also has a cooling cover that helps to keep you cool at night.
    • Purple Harmony Pillow: This pillow is made with Purple’s signature Grid Hex material, which is a unique polymer that is both soft and supportive. It also has a breathable mesh cover that helps to keep you cool at night.
      Image of Purple Harmony Pillow

Ultimately, the best pillow for you will depend on your individual preferences. I recommend trying out a few different pillows to see which one you like best.

Here are some additional factors to consider when choosing a pillow:

    • Sleeping position: Side sleepers need a different type of pillow than back or stomach sleepers.
    • Fill material: Memory foam, latex foam, and down alternative are all popular pillow fill materials. Each has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.
    • Loft: The loft of a pillow is its height. You should choose a pillow that is the right loft for your sleeping position.
  • Firmness: Pillows come in a variety of firmness levels. You should choose a pillow that is the right firmness for you.

MedCline Pillow Review (2026): For Acid Reflux Sufferers

Medcline

Medcline pillows are known to be a great choice for side sleepers because of their unique design and features that can help improve sleep quality and provide support for the body. Here are some of the reasons why:

    • Contoured shape: Medcline pillows come in a variety of shapes, including J-shaped and U-shaped, which can help cradle the body and keep the spine in alignment while you sleep on your side. This can help reduce neck pain, back pain, and shoulder pain.
    • Supportive filling: Medcline pillows are typically filled with memory foam or other supportive materials that can conform to the curves of your body and provide pressure relief. This can help you sleep more comfortably throughout the night.
    • Multiple sizes and options: Medcline pillows come in a variety of sizes and options to fit different body types and sleeping preferences. This means you can find a pillow that is the right size and shape for you.
    • Additional features: Some Medcline pillows have additional features that can be beneficial for side sleepers, such as built-in arm pockets, wedge shapes, and cooling covers.

However, it is important to note that Medcline pillows are not a one-size-fits-all solution for side sleepers. The best pillow for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It is important to try out different pillows before you buy one to find one that is comfortable and supportive for you.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing a pillow for side sleeping:

    • The thickness of the pillow: The thickness of the pillow should be based on the width of your shoulders. If you have narrow shoulders, you will need a thinner pillow. If you have wide shoulders, you will need a thicker pillow.
    • The firmness of the pillow: The firmness of the pillow should be based on your personal preference. Some people prefer soft pillows, while others prefer firm pillows.
  • The material of the pillow: The material of the pillow can affect its comfort and support. Memory foam pillows are popular because they conform to the curves of your body, but they can also be hot to sleep on. Down pillows are soft and comfortable, but they may not be supportive enough for some people.

  2. Shoulder Relief System: Aimed at side sleepers experiencing shoulder pain, this product’s unique design includes an arm pocket, ensuring the arm remains unpressed while asleep. This strategic positioning aids in eliminating the common pain and discomfort associated with side-sleeping, making it a favorite among those with rotator cuff injuries, bursitis, and other shoulder-related issues.

Medcline Acid Reflux System

The woes of acid reflux can significantly disrupt one’s nightly rest, leading to a cycle of fatigue and discomfort that affects day-to-day life. MedCline’s Acid Reflux Relief System stands as a beacon of hope for those tormented by this ailment. Let’s delve deeper into the specifics of this product, its target audience, utilization, and the expected timeline for results.

Target Demographic

  1. Patients with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR) and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): These are individuals who experience a backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus and, sometimes, the throat and mouth. This backflow can lead to discomfort, heartburn, and other symptoms.

  2. Nighttime Acid Reflux Sufferers: While acid reflux can strike at any time, the supine position adopted during sleep can exacerbate the problem. This system is especially beneficial for those who find their reflux symptoms intensify during the night.

  3. Individuals Seeking Alternative Solutions: Many patients are on the lookout for non-pharmacological interventions to complement or reduce their dependency on medications. The Acid Reflux Relief System provides a mechanical solution, potentially reducing the need for over-the-counter or prescription remedies.

Usage Instructions

  1. Positioning the Wedge: Begin by placing the wedge on the bed, ensuring that the higher end aligns with the headboard.

  2. Lying Down: The user should then lie on their left side, aligning their torso with the upper part of the wedge. The patented arm pocket design allows the individual’s right arm to comfortably rest below, relieving pressure.

  3. Maintaining Posture: It’s crucial to remain in this left-side sleeping position throughout the night, as it has been shown to be optimal for acid reflux relief. The design of the system facilitates this posture, but it might require a period of adjustment for those not accustomed to side-sleeping.

Expected Timeline for Results

The effectiveness and speed at which users experience relief can vary based on individual differences. However, many users have reported a noticeable reduction in their nighttime acid reflux symptoms within the first few nights of using the system. Consistent usage over a span of weeks often yields more pronounced results, with some individuals achieving complete relief from their previous disturbances.

Closing Thoughts

MedCline’s Acid Reflux Relief System is not merely a pillow, but a scientifically-backed solution to a widespread problem. Its targeted design and user-centric approach have already offered respite to numerous sufferers. As with any therapeutic solution, patience and consistent usage are key. With time, this system could be the ticket to undisturbed, rejuvenating nights for those plagued by acid reflux.

The Shoulder Relief System

MedCline’s Shoulder Relief System: A Comprehensive Examination

Shoulder discomfort during sleep can be a debilitating concern for many, robbing them of the rejuvenation that a good night’s rest should provide. MedCline’s Shoulder Relief System emerges as an innovative solution to this prevalent issue. Let’s explore its nuances, including its intended audience, method of use, and the potential timeframe for witnessing results.

Target Demographic

  1. Side Sleepers with Chronic Shoulder Pain: This encompasses individuals who, owing to their preferred sleep position, experience consistent pressure on their downside shoulder, leading to pain and discomfort.

  2. Post-Injury Recovery: The system offers solace to those recuperating from shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff problems, bursitis, or post-operative pain. Its design reduces pressure, potentially accelerating the healing process.

  3. Other Shoulder-Related Concerns: Conditions like arthritis, tendinitis, and other musculoskeletal shoulder issues can also benefit from the pressure-relieving design of the Shoulder Relief System.

Usage Instructions

  1. Positioning the Wedge: Place the wedge-shaped part of the system on your bed with the elevated end near the headboard.

  2. Assuming Position: Lie down on your side, ensuring your body aligns with the length of the wedge. The unique arm pocket allows your downside arm to rest comfortably, eliminating the usual pressure exerted on the shoulder when side-sleeping.

  3. Maintaining Alignment: The system encourages users to maintain the side-sleeping position throughout the night. Though there might be an adjustment period, especially for those not habituated to this position, the benefits in terms of reduced shoulder pressure are significant.

Expected Timeline for Results

The efficacy and speed of relief from the Shoulder Relief System are subjective and may vary among users. However, a significant proportion of individuals have reported a marked decrease in nighttime shoulder discomfort within the first few nights. Over weeks of consistent use, the benefits often become more pronounced, leading to more restful sleep and reduced shoulder pain upon waking.

In Conclusion

MedCline’s Shoulder Relief System stands out as a purpose-built solution, meticulously designed for those tormented by shoulder pain during sleep. While individual experiences might differ, the system’s science-backed design offers a promising avenue for many in search of a pain-free night. Adjustable Bases vs. Reflux Pillows: The Evolution of Sleep Solutions

Bedjet Adjustable Bed

Adjustable bed bases, reminiscent of hospital beds, have witnessed a surge in popularity among the general populace. Equipped with mechanisms that allow for the elevation of both the head and feet, they offer a customizable sleep experience.

Benefits Over Reflux Pillows:

  1. Versatility: Unlike reflux pillows, which serve a singular purpose, adjustable bases cater to a plethora of needs. Whether it’s watching TV, reading, or combating snoring, the bed can be modified to an individual’s preference.

  2. Even Weight Distribution: Adjustable bases provide uniform support to the entire body. This contrasts with wedge pillows that can sometimes lead to pressure points or misalignment if not positioned correctly.

  3. Durability: High-quality adjustable bases tend to have a longer lifespan compared to pillows which can wear out and lose their shape over time.

  4. Aesthetics: For those keen on maintaining a certain bedroom aesthetic, adjustable bases fit seamlessly into the room’s design without the noticeable presence of a bulky wedge pillow.

Making the Transition

Switching to an adjustable base requires some considerations:

  1. Mattress Compatibility: Not all mattresses are designed for adjustable bases. It’s crucial to ensure that one’s mattress can flex without damage.

  2. Cost: Adjustable bases typically come with a higher price tag compared to reflux pillows. However, for many, the investment is justified given the multiplicity of benefits.

  3. Space and Installation: These bases are bulkier and might require a spacious bedroom. Installation can also be more complex than simply placing a pillow on the bed.

While reflux pillows have long been a trusted solution for acid reflux sufferers, the modern era ushers in adjustable bases as a formidable alternative. Offering versatility, durability, and a more integrated sleep experience, these bases are making waves in the world of sleep solutions. As always, individual needs and preferences will dictate the best choice, but it’s undeniable that the adjustable base is staking its claim as a preferred option for many in pursuit of restful, rejuvenating sleep.

Medcline Pillow Complaints

The Medcline pillow system is designed to provide relief for a variety of conditions, including shoulder pain, acid reflux, and sleep apnea. However, like any product, it has its drawbacks and has received some complaints from users.

Here are some of the most common complaints about the Medcline pillow:

  • Difficult to use: The Medcline system consists of multiple pieces, which some users find difficult to assemble and position correctly. The armrest can be particularly awkward to get used to, and some people find it uncomfortable or restrictive.
    Image of Medcline pillow system
  • Not effective for everyone: The Medcline system is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and it does not work for everyone. Some users find that it does not provide the relief they were hoping for, or that it even makes their pain worse.
  • Expensive: The Medcline system is relatively expensive compared to other pillows.
  • Bulky and takes up space: The Medcline system is quite bulky and can take up a lot of space on your bed. This can be a problem for people who have small bedrooms or who share their bed with a partner.
  • Difficult to return: Once you have opened the Medcline system, it is difficult to return it. This is because the company has a strict return policy.

Overall, the Medcline pillow system is a well-made product that can be effective for some people. However, it is important to be aware of the potential downsides before you purchase it. If you are considering buying a Medcline pillow, it is a good idea to try it out in person first to make sure that it is comfortable for you. You should also read the return policy carefully before you make your purchase.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • The Medcline system is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you are experiencing pain, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
  • There are many other pillows on the market that are designed to provide relief for pain. You may want to consider trying a few different pillows before you decide on the Medcline system.
  • It is important to find a pillow that is the right size and firmness for you. A pillow that is too soft or too hard can cause pain.

More Options for Acid Reflux Pillows

If you’re looking for alternatives to the Medcline pillow, there are several options depending on what you’re hoping to achieve:

Acid Reflux and GERD:

  • Wedge Pillows: These are simpler and often cheaper than the Medcline system. Look for adjustable wedges with memory foam for comfort and different incline angles. Popular options include Brentwood Home Zuma and InteVision Foam Bed Wedge Pillows.
  • Body Pillows: Some side sleepers find relief from acid reflux using a full-body pillow that cradles their entire form, reducing pressure on the abdomen. Check out Leachco Snoogle Original Maternity/Pregnancy Total Body Pillow.

Shoulder Pain:

  • Side Sleeping Pillows: These pillows are designed to fill the gap between your head and shoulder, providing optimal alignment and support. PureComfort Side Sleeping Pillow and Coop Home Original Pillow are popular options.
  • Cervical Pillows: These contoured pillows cradle your neck and head, promoting proper posture and potentially reducing pain. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Ergo Neck Pillow and Mkicesky Memory Foam Cervical Pillow are widely recommended.

Overall Comfort and Support:

  • Adjustable Pillows: Look for pillows with removable inserts or multiple layers to customize the height and firmness to your liking. Milliard U Shaped Total Body Support Pillow offers customizable memory foam filling.
  • Cooling Pillows: If you tend to sleep hot, consider pillows with gel inserts or breathable fabrics. Brentwood Home Eden Cooling Gel Grid Pillow and Casper Original Pillow are well-regarded options.

Additional Tips:

  • Experiment with different sleep positions: Sometimes, simply changing your sleeping position can alleviate discomfort. Side sleeping on the left is often recommended for acid reflux, while back sleeping may be better for shoulder pain.
  • Invest in a good mattress: A supportive mattress can make a big difference in your sleep quality and pain relief.
  • Consult a doctor or physical therapist: If you’re experiencing chronic pain, it’s important to get professional advice to rule out any underlying medical conditions and find the best treatment options.

  • Warmth: Goose down is an excellent insulator, meaning it traps heat well. This makes it ideal for bedding, especially during the winter months.
  • Lightweight: Goose down is also very lightweight, so it won’t weigh you down while you sleep.
  • Breathable: Goose down is also breathable, so it won’t trap too much heat and make you sweat.
  • Durable: Goose down is a durable material that can last for many years with proper care.
  • Hypoallergenic: Goose down is hypoallergenic, meaning it is unlikely to cause allergic reactions.

In addition to these benefits, goose down is also a natural and sustainable material. Geese are raised for their meat and eggs, and the down is a byproduct of these industries.

Of course, goose down is also a more expensive bedding material than some other options, such as synthetic down or feathers. However, many people believe that the extra cost is worth it for the superior comfort and warmth that goose down provides.

Here is a comparison of goose down to other bedding materials:

The Pillow Guy Goose Down Pillow is yet another item part of an incredible line of products from the clever brand Pillow Guy. I received and reviewed free one of their items in the past and was pretty impressed with their Down Alternative Pillow so naturally, I had very high expectations of their Down Pillow. This is a company that targets its items towards men who consider themselves gentlemen and who pride themselves on their good taste.

Overview of the Pillow Guy Goose Down Pillow

While the Pillow Guy only has two pillow types in their inventory, the choice to keep it simple is wise in their case. Their Goose Down pillow comes in two densities, soft and overstuffed. Their pillows are crafted with 100% Certified RDS (Responsible Down Standard) 650 fill power White Goose Down. They’re encased in a down-proof cotton shell and then wrapped in their gorgeous white sateen cover that comes with stunning blue satin piping. The cover has a hidden zipper and truly feels like something a 5-star hotel would supply their guests (and should).

Construction of the Pillow Guy Down Pillow

Pillow Guy wants to separate themselves from the crowd as a company suited more for the elite. That being the case, their terminology can vary a little so keep in mind that a Jumbo pillow is more simply a Queen size pillow.

Unlike the Down Alternative pillow, Pillow Guy’s Goose Down Pillow is not made from a synthetic material so there’s quite a process involved in trying to ensure that they’re providing the most desirable product on the market. Their Goose Down Pillows are 100% Certified RDS (Responsible Down Standard) but for those that want further clarification on what that means, the information below is quoted directly from the official RDS website, which can be found at http://responsibledown.org.

Any removal of down and feathers from live birds (live-plucking or molt-harvesting) is prohibited

Force-feeding is prohibited

Holistic respect for animal welfare of the birds from hatching to slaughter

RDS down and feathers is properly identified; to ensures that non-RDS down and feathers are not mistakenly identified as RDS

Each stage in supply chain is audited by a professional, third party certification body

Only products with 100% certified down and feathers carry the RDS logo

If you want to read more about how RDS works, there is more information towards the bottom of the home page on their official site. That’s where they discuss the certification process in further detail.

Another aspect that I really like about these pillows is that they’re priced accordingly. Because Goose Down is a limited resource, it can be costly, which is why I appreciate the fact that their soft pillow, the one with less filling, actually costs less. Not every company is so honest but I believe that the Pillow Guy is and this is just one indication.

One thing I found interesting about this pillow is how different it was in terms of density between the soft and overstuffed pillow. With the Down Alternative pillows this was quite evident but I think that with the Goose Down pillows they’ve drawn the gap a little bit closer. I think this is a positive aspect actually, considering it’s Goose Down which can lose it’s loft over time. This however can be remedied. Down pillows just require their own maintenance in order for them to last long.

My Pillow Guy Down Pillow Recommendation

The Pillow Guy has created another top notch item that they can be proud to have in their inventory. While there is no doubt that I’m a fanatic of their advertising and would love to meet their marketing person, their products make it clear that their money is invested in far more than just their advertising. I rate this pillow an A+.

Sleep & Glow Pillow: Best Anti-Aging Secret Unveiled!

sleep and glow pillow

The Sleep and Glow Anti-Aging Pillow is a new product on the market that claims to help reduce wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and diminish the appearance of dark circles. It does this by using a combination of memory foam and cooling technology to create a comfortable and supportive sleeping environment.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the Sleep and Glow Anti-Aging Pillow:

Pros:

  • Comfortable and supportive
  • May help reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity
  • May help diminish the appearance of dark circles
  • May help improve sleep quality
  • Comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Some users have reported that the pillow is too firm
  • Not all users have reported seeing results
  • It is unclear how long the results will last

Overall, the Sleep and Glow Anti-Aging Pillow is a promising new product with some potential benefits for the skin. However, it is important to note that more research is needed to confirm these benefits and that the pillow is not a magic bullet for anti-aging.

Here are some additional things to consider before purchasing the Sleep and Glow Anti-Aging Pillow:

  • Your skin type: If you have sensitive skin, you may want to avoid the pillow as the cooling technology may irritate your skin.
  • Your sleep position: If you sleep on your stomach, you may find the pillow to be too firm.
  • Your budget: The pillow is quite expensive, so you may want to consider other options if you are on a tight budget.

The Sleep & Glow Pillow

The Sleep & Glow pillow is an anti-aging pillow for back and side sleepers that promises less fatigued skin, a refreshed face and a healthy back. Its design is quite technical, which is why even though it’s often marketed for its beauty benefits, it also has a lot to offer physiologically.

Overview of The Sleep & Glow Pillow

This pillow is designed and produced in Europe and it has been patented in Europe, the US, and Japan. The company offers a 30-night sleep trial with a money-back guarantee. On top of that, they stand by a 3-year warranty. The pillow retails for $195 on their website.

Construction of The Sleep & Glow Pillow

The pillow only comes in one size with the following dimensions: 22” x 15” x 5” and it’s made with some pretty remarkable memory foam. Every part of this pillow has been made with the intention of ad addressing some type of problem. Even the pillowcases, which are offered in both Tencel and silk versions, have been well thought out. This pillow is constructed with European materials that are non-toxic, safety approved materials that also have ISO quality control system certification.

My Sleep & Glow Pillow Findings

*Important Note*
After filming this review, I realized that I made a mistake in terms of how I demonstrated laying on the pillow. I used the pillow upside down. Doing so can actually cause headaches and further neck problems. The higher bolster has to touch the forehead and the lower bolster, the chin. I apologize for the confusion.

The biggest selling point of the Sleep & Glow pillow is within its construction. It not only looks meticulously built but it is. I can tell that some incredibly intelligent people created this pillow and that’s confirmed when Sleep & Glow mentions that it was designed with the help of both cosmetologists and orthopedists. Cosmetologists are most likely a familiar term if you came to this article interested in beauty and anti-aging but for those who aren’t familiar with orthopedists, they are knowledgeable and skilled in the “prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.” This is also known as our musculoskeletal system. In short, they’re masters of human anatomy.

Despite the Sleep & Glow Pillow being primarily marketed for what it has to offer aesthetically, it’s psychological components shouldn’t be overlooked. While it was created to help you look your best it also assists with maintaining spinal alignment as well as proper curvature of the neck. Why is this important? Because our spinal alignment is essential to our health. If our spine is out of whack, odds are other things are as well. The construction of this pillow seeks to address that concern by providing you with the physiologically-correct body position during sleep, encouraging spinal alignment and a happy cervical curve. For those who have already existing musculoskeletal issues, it’s advised that you consult your physician/chiropractor/orthopedist if a pillow like this can adequately meet your needs. It’s quite possible that it’s not the right solution for you.

sleep & glow pillow packaging

The method in which it aids in anti-aging is multi-faceted. First, there’s the form (the way it’s shaped and cut), then the material used to create it (memory foam), and then the pillowcases it comes with.

In addition to being comfortable, the memory foam used in its construction is dense where it provides perfectly adequate support but it’s not so firm that it feels stiff. You’ll achieve comfortable side and back sleeping and the way certain portions of it are cut out, it does a great job at cradling your head regardless of how you sleep (keep in mind this is not for stomach sleepers). The neck support, all thanks to the shoulder cradle, is really out of this world.

One of the most advertised features of this pillow is how it prevents your face from getting smushed. There’s just no better word for it than that because most likely, you totally know what I mean when I say it: smushed. The anatomical shape of the pillow helps minimize skin twisting and folding and this works by avoiding your face from directly having to lean too much into the pillow when on your side. This works to prevent sleep wrinkles, morning puffiness and those unsightly pillow marks and creases that some of us wake up with. As an added side note, if you want to avoid vertical wrinkles to the decollage area, you will want to sleep on your back. If you want to avoid wrinkles altogether, sleeping on a pillow that encourages this, is already a big step in the right direction. If you insist on sleeping on your side, using a pillow like this one is an improvement.

sleep&glow pillow on couch

The pillowcase options that Sleep & Glow offers are Tencel and silk. Apparently, both have some pretty interesting characteristics that further improve the effectiveness of the Sleep & Glow Pillow. Both also happen to be made of natural fibers. One thing I want to mention, for those who may not be aware, is this: When silk is generally mentioned (anywhere on the internet), satin is usually following along behind it.

While it’s not relevant to this pillow, I’d like to just educate some people (because embarrassingly, I recently learned it myself and it’s an essential distinction). Satin is not a replacement fabric for silk. Silk is an actual fabric, while satin is a type of weave used to achieve a smoother feeling fabric. So silk is the real thing and with this pillow or pillowcase, that’s what you’ll be getting. Our eco-friendly readers will also be happy to know that both pillowcase fabrics offered, silk and Tencel, are biodegradable.

Silk is a natural protein fiber consisting mainly of fibroin (an insoluble protein) and it’s created by certain insect larvae in the formation of cocoons. The best-known silk comes from the mulberry silkworm. Silk has a few compelling characteristics:

  • Doesn’t absorb moisture
  • Doesn’t absorb creams
  • Reduces hair breakage
  • Prevents hair tangling
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Naturally elastic
  • Helps regulate body temperature
  • Keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer

Here’s an interesting fact about silk from Wikipedia.com:

“The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the triangular prism-like structure of the silk fiber, which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles, thus producing different colors.”

One of the most interesting things that I learned about silk is that sunlight tends to encourage the decomposition of silk by atmospheric oxygen so it’s best kept out of the light.

sleep & glow pillow side view

Tencel is the brand name of a fiber that is known as lyocell. While it’s technically considered a synthetic fiber, it’s retrieved from natural materials and goes through a lengthy process to be transformed into fabric. The result is a luxurious high-quality fiber. Tencel also has a few intriguing characteristics:

  • Made from eucalyptus fiber (which doesn’t require irrigation or pesticides)
  • More breathable than cotton
  • Hypoallergenic and bacteriostatic properties (suitable for sensitive skin)
  • Softer and stronger than most cotton
  • Has less of a tendency to wrinkle
  • Its production utilizes less land and water than cotton
  • Amasses less odor and bacteria when compared to other fabrics

It’s true that this pillow is pricey when compared to more cheaply designed versions but it’s almost not the most expensive pillow I’ve seen. Specialty pillows like this can easily run $200 to $300. I’ve seen others that were even higher. I understand that this may sound insane to most people but to target particular problems, or particular areas of the body, people are willing to spend if the product does what it claims. Specifically constructed designs require resources. But for the money they ask, premium quality is typically what you receive.

My Sleep & Glow Pillow Recommendation

I’m really impressed with this pillow. The quality of the materials used and its intricate construction certainly justifies the price. From the physiological aspect, I’m confident that it can help certain individuals with their neck and shoulder issues. From the beauty aspect, the combination of elements involved, such as the structure, the density of the memory foam, as well as the materials that were chosen for the pillowcase, sound promising. The first night I spent on the pillow, I started sleeping on my back and I woke up still laying on my back. That was surprising to me as I’m totally in love with side sleeping, nothing is nearly as comforting to me. Sleeping on your back, in general, is the most recommended thing to reduce and prevent wrinkles and if a pillow like this can help encourage that, it’s worth the spend. For those skeptical, it may require some experimentation to know for sure if it’s for you but I don’t think the amount of reviews they’ve amassed is coincidental. There is obviously something they are doing right.

Anime Body Pillows: Best Comfort Solution & Buying Guide

best Dakimakura Pillow

[Tagline]

What Are Anime Pillows?

Pillows are an essential part of the sleeping process. Just like your mattress, your pillows also define the quality of sleep you get. The pillow you sleep on makes all the difference between a comfortable, relaxing night’s rest and waking up with aches and pains all over.

Most times, people tend to concentrate solely on their mattresses and forget all about their pillows. This is a big mistake, and it can also be a costly mistake since you might just be replacing your mattress when the problem can be easily solved with a pillow replacement. Pillows, just like mattresses, aid in comfort and support. They align your head, neck, upper shoulders with your spine. Body pillows are even better at support.

This article will focus on the newest trend in the pillow market, the highly popular Japanese Dakimakura pillows also known as Anime Pillows in America. It will take you through all the finer points of the Dakimakura pillow, making it a breeze to buy the perfect one for yourself. Anime Pillows are a big trend in Japan and growing in popularity in the United States.

What is An Anime Pillow?

An Anime Pillow or Dakimakura pillow is a relatively new addition to the world of pillows. It has been around for quite some time in Japan but has only recently made its way into the mainstream USA market. Since its “discovery,” the Anime pillows have been steadily rising in popularity worldwide. In Japan, Dakimakura pillows have a dedicated pillow market share since the 1990s. This is fast catching up in the USA markets as well. Along with the rise of Anime cartoons in the 90s anime pillows caught on as well.

Dakimakura pillow was first manufactured by the Japanese company “Cospa.” In the early ’90s, Cospa created a pillowcase for body pillows with the popular anime characters printed on it. With the anime culture already spiraling out of control in Japan, these pillowcases with anime characters took off instantly. Before you knew it, the market was flooded with all types, shapes, and patterns of Dakimakura pillows. And Anime body pillows became a viral success.

To keep it simple, Anime pillows are usually pillowcases with anime prints or themes on them. They are a long body pillow meaning that the length is long enough to cover the average human adult with special Japanese cartoon or “anime” printed on it.  Even though they are called Dakimakura pillows, they are generally pillowcases only. The inner pillow needs to be purchased separately. Some company’s especially in the west, tend to sell the pillowcase with the pillow in it, but originally Dakimakura pillows were just anime-themed pillowcases.

Dakimakura Anime Body Pillows Vs. Body Pillows

While body pillows are used to define and explain the Dakimakura pillow concept, there is a very basic difference between these two products. They both tend to look very similar in their sizes and shapes, but the basic difference lies in their uses. Where body pillows are typically used more for physical support and comfort, Dakimakura pillows are emotional tools.

Body pillows, in the conventional sense, are orthopedic pillows or specialized pillows that are recommended by a healthcare practitioner to provide you with better spinal support. They are used after a physical injury to maintain correct posture during sleep or under special medical conditions like pregnancy. The basic aim of body pillows is physical support.

The Dakimakura anime body pillows, on the other hand, are purely for emotional support. They were started as anime spin-offs and have since taken over as comfort products just like your safety blanket or the plush comforter you like to sink into in the evenings. They are a different spin to your oversized teddy bear that you like to hug to sleep.

Apart from the obvious difference in the usage intention of body pillows and anime body pillows, they also differ in their sizes. Body pillows have no hard and fast rule for size. They can come in a variety of different sizes. But, Dakimakura pillows are traditionally only available in three sizes:

  • 150x 50 cm
  • 160x 50 cm
  • 100x 35 cm

The sizing matters with Dakimakura pillows since they are meant to correspond and relate to the anime theme and anime charachter it sports. So make sure that the anime body pillow has a properly sized body pillow case.

Reason Behind 100, 150, and 160 cm Anime Body Pillow and Dakimakura Pillow

The difference in the size of the Dakimakura pillow is largely to service the demand for Dakimakura pillows outside of Japan. Traditionally Dakimakura pillows were only manufactured in 160 cm. However, this meant almost double the shipping costs as compared to a slightly smaller dimension of 150 and 100 cm. Hence to accommodate the anime and manga “Otaku” culture and to remain cost-effective, the smaller size of Dakimakura pillows was created and hence the wide selection of anime pillows you see today.

These two standard sizes are Dakimakura pillows are strictly adhered to because given that the nature of these pillows, they tend to appeal to a segment of the population that are into Japanese anime, which would like uniformity in the collections they acquire. Also, not everyone buys a Dakimakura sized inner pillow with every pillow cover change. Given that Dakimakura pillows are essentially pillow covers, it makes sense to keep them in a uniform size.

Features of Dakimakura Pillow

It is easy to spot a Dakimakura pillow. Some telltale features are:

  • Only available in three sizes
  • Printed with anime, manga, video game characters. Sometimes they sport real people photos as well. Chances are you will find your favorite character
  • Sport double sides of the character. You will have both the front and backside of the character on the two sides of the pillow.

Why Should You Buy a Dakimakura Pillow?

There are a few reasons that might convince you to buy a Dakimakura pillow, even if you are not necessarily an anime or manga fan. If you are one of the many anime lovers, then the chances are you already own a Dakimakura pillow. The benefits of having this pillow handy are:

Physical Benefits

  • Ideal body support for a good knee, back, and neck alignment
  • Relieves body pains and pressure point aches
  • Good spinal alignment
  • Helps in medical conditions like “Fibromyalgia.”
  • Provides good support during pregnancy by taking the weight off the back and belly
  • Helps improve blood circulation, especially in the legs and ankle during sleep

Other Benefits

  • Comfort: Just like you hugged a doll to sleep while growing up and clutched your favorite blanket tight, these Dakimakura pillows can provide emotional comfort while sleeping. They are soft and cuddly with an anime character printed on it. Hugging these pillows gives the illusion of hugging the character on it, giving you the much-needed comfort you require
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Dakimakura pillows are great at adding the extra level of cuteness to your bedroom decor. There is nothing more adorable than having a soft and cute anime character staring up at you.

Anime Fans Buying Guide for Dakimakura Pillows

It always helps to keep a few practical points in mind when you purchase any product. When looking at your next Dakimakura pillow, you should bear in mind the following factors:

  • Size: Anime pillows come in three sizes. Pick the one that fits your existing pillow or collection. It is always better to have a uniform sized pillow cover set than one that is all sized unless, of course, you have all three sizes of “inner pillows” with you. This ensures you get the perfect choice for your needs.
  • Fabric: Dakimakura is available in four types of fabric. These are discussed below:
    • Smooth Knit: Dakimakura pillows in smooth knit are, as the name suggests, incredibly smooth and fine to touch and feel. They are made with 100% polyester fabric that lends it the smoothness factor. The polyester also ensures that the graphics and design printed on the fabric remains true even after several washes. The only flip point is that the material can only be stretched one way.
    • Peach Skin: This is a toned-down version of the smooth knit material. It is also the most budget-friendly option in the Dakimakura pillows. Just like smooth knit, peach skin is also made of 100% polyester. However, the quality of the polyester differs. The peach skin Dakimakura pillow is soft and smooth to touch as well, but the fabric is not elastic at all. The prints come out well and stay true after continual use as well.
    • Soft Velvet: This is one of the lesser preferred options for Dakimakura pillows. This because even though the velvet feels gorgeous, it also does not make for a good base for life-like prints. The Dakimakura pillow in soft velvet looks somewhat blurry and also tends to retain heat. So, unless you are headed into the winters and don’t mind a blurry print, it is better to skip this material.
    • Twill: This is another budget-friendly option that is only made by Cospa, the original Japanese manufacturers of Dakimakura pillows. It is not a very attractive option since twill tends to result in washed-out prints and does not retain its shape either. It is also an option you will have to import from Japan, so do take into consideration the additional shipping costs.
    • Two-Way Tricot: This is hands down the most preferred option by the Dakimakura community. The fabric used is extremely soft, silky, and smooth to the touch with a slight sheen and an excellent finish. It brings out the character printed on it very vividly with high contrast making it a favorite amidst all the other fabrics. It is also very elastic and can be pulled in all directions.
  • Print: This is an extremely personal choice. You can have any print you desire. The prints can also be custom designed to suit your individual preference. Apart from the usual prints, you will also get loads of adult options as well since Dakimakura is associated with the “love pillow” concept as well.
  • Cover: Given the adult element that is associated with Dakimakura pillows, it is a good idea to buy a cover for the pillows well in advance. This way, you can always zip them up in the cover and keep it away from censure and prying eyes.
  • Price: These days, you don’t necessarily have to buy from Japan. There are lots of onshore sites that offer Dakimakura pillows. You should look at these options first since they will save you the shipping costs.

Caring for Your Dakimakura Pillow

It is simple to care for your Dakimakura pillows. Most don’t need any special attention. Just bear these points in mind:

  • Wash in normal or cold water to preserve the print colors. Avoid warm or hot water unless you are looking to shorten the lifespan of your pillow.
  • Avoid cloth whitening and stain removal chemicals since they will strip the vibrancy of the print.
  • It is best to hand wash Dakimakura pillows since the machine cycle might be hard on these gentle covers.
  • Soak the Dakimakura pillow in water and a gentle detergent for about 15 minutes. Then gently remove the detergent by keeping it under running normal temperature water. Hang to dry in shade

Dakimakura Pillow Buying Sites

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a Dakimakura pillow online. Some things you should be on the lookout for when looking at any site are:

  • Shipping Support: It is best to look for a site that supports shipping to your address. There is no point in going through the many options and selecting the one you want only to realize that they do not ship to your zip code. So, before you start selecting, make sure they support shipping to your location.
  • Payment: When you are looking to buy objects that have a strong adult theme, it is best to pay through channels that are safe and secure. Choose PayPal, especially with offshore sites. This way, your financials are protected, and you will not have divulged important personal information to some fraud site.
  • Design and Variety: Look for an authentic site that offers original designs. This way, you will not be cheated and disappointed with the final result. It is best to look at sites that promote authentic Japanese artists since they are your best bet at a replica.
  • Custom Style Service: Many Dakimakura pillow sites offer custom design services for those looking for a personal touch on their pillows.
  • Money-Back Options: It is always best to go with sites that offer a trial period. Since you have no way of knowing if the quality will be as promised, it is a good idea to have a money-back guarantee. It also gives you confidence in the site.

Where to Buy Dakimakura Pillow?

There are two parts to a Dakimakura pillow:

  • Dakimakura inner pillow
  • Dakimakura pillow cover

These two parts are generally sold separately, much like your usual conventional pillows. You do not have to buy from Japanese manufacturers anymore since there are plenty of onshore options available these days.
