Tempur-Pedic: From Space to Sleep

Tempur-Pedic has become synonymous with luxurious sleep and pressure-relieving mattresses. But did you know that its origins can be traced back to the space program? Here’s a look at the fascinating history of Tempur-Pedic:

The NASA Connection (1960s):

    • It all began in the 1960s when NASA was looking for a way to improve the safety and comfort of astronauts during takeoff and landing. They developed a unique viscoelastic foam material that could absorb pressure and distribute weight evenly.
Image of Astronaut in space shuttle

From Space to Sweden (1970s-1980s):

    • In the 1970s, Danish researchers working with NASA’s technology further developed the material and named it “Tempur.
    • By the 1980s, Swedish company Fagerdala began using Tempur material in medical applications, such as cushions for wheelchair users.

Birth of Tempur-Pedic (1990s):

    • In 1991, Fagerdala introduced the world’s first Tempur-Pedic mattress in Sweden. The mattress was an instant success, quickly gaining popularity for its superior comfort and support.

    • In 1992, American entrepreneur Robert Trussell discovered Tempur-Pedic while visiting Sweden and was immediately impressed. He secured the North American distribution rights and founded Tempur-Pedic, Inc.

Growth and Innovation (2000s-present):

    • Tempur-Pedic quickly grew in popularity in the United States, thanks to its innovative technology and effective marketing campaigns.
      Image of TempurPedic marketing campaign
    • The company continued to develop new products, introducing a variety of mattress models, pillows, and other sleep accessories.
    • In 2012, Tempur-Pedic merged with Sealy Corporation to form Tempur Sealy International, further solidifying its position as a leading mattress manufacturer.

Tempur-Pedic Today:

    • Today, Tempur-Pedic is a global brand known for its high-quality sleep products. The company continues to invest in research and development, constantly innovating to provide the best possible sleep experience for its customers.

Interesting facts:

    • Tempur-Pedic material is actually temperature-sensitive. It becomes softer when your body heat warms it up, providing even better pressure relief.
    • The original Tempur-Pedic mattress was so heavy that it required two people to move it!
    • Tempur-Pedic has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows, further boosting its popularity.

So, the next time you sink into your comfortable Tempur-Pedic mattress, remember that you’re not just getting a good night’s sleep, you’re also experiencing a bit of space-age technology!

The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress is a hybrid mattress that combines Tempur-Pedic’s signature memory foam with a layer of pocketed coils. It is designed to provide pressure relief, support, and cooling comfort.

The top layer of the Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress is made of Tempur-Pedic’s TEMPUR-CM+ material, which is a cooling memory foam that is designed to absorb and distribute heat away from the body. The middle layer of the mattress is made of a layer of pocketed coils, which provide support and bounce. The bottom layer of the mattress is made of a high-density base foam, which provides durability and stability.

The Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress is available in three firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm. It is also backed by a 10-year warranty and a 90-night sleep trial.

Here are some of the benefits of the Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress:

  • Pressure relief: The TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam conforms to your body’s natural curves to provide pressure relief where you need it most.
  • Support: The pocketed coils in the middle layer of the mattress provide support for all sleep positions.
  • Cooling: The TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam is designed to absorb and distribute heat away from the body, keeping you cool and comfortable while you sleep.
  • Durability: The high-density base foam in the bottom layer of the mattress provides durability and stability.

Overall, the Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress is a great option for anyone looking for a comfortable, supportive, and cooling mattress. It is especially well-suited for people who sleep hot or who have back pain.

However, it is important to note that the Tempur-Breeze Hybrid mattress is one of the most expensive mattresses on the market. It is also a heavy mattress, so it can be difficult to move.

Tempurpedic is synonymous with memory foam but they also have a few models with springs. The Tempur breeze hybrid is their top-of-the-line model with foams and pocket coils. Adding the coils give this mattress a unique feel that sets it apart from the rest of their lineup in that it has a slightly faster recovery and will sink in faster and provide a bit more cradling. This is a great choice for people new to memory foam mattresses that still want the familiar feel of springs

Overview of the Tempurpedic TEMPUR – breeze hybrid

Construction of the TEMPUR – breeze hybrid

Below are the construction specifications of the mattress as listed on their website. Tempurpedic doesn’t disclose the densities of their foam but it is a dense foam, denser than what you will find in most online brands. Dense foam will hold up better over time and is great for contouring and pressure relief.

How Much Does the Tempurpedic Adapt Hybrid Cost?

Tempurpedic usually always has some sort of sale going on so make sure to check their website for the latest discounts and prices. Tempurpedic offers a 90 night trial on this mattress if you buy it from their website. This means you get to try it out for 90 nights in your house and if you aren’t happy with it, you can contact them to initiate a return. Tempurpedic asks that you try the mattress for at least 30 nights so that your body can adjust before returning. If you purchased the mattress with a free shipping discount, you may have to pay return shipping fees which is $175. While this isn’t as generous as some of the newer online brands, you are purchasing a top of the line mattress from a very reputable brand.

My TEMPUR – breeze hybrid Findings

Most brands now offer a zippable cover but Tempurpedic really pays attention to detail. Even the zipper pulls are high quality. The cover is designed to be ultra-breathable and has a phase change cooling layer to draw heat away. Yes, other brands also have this but this cover is much higher quality and is going to last longer.

tempur breeze hybrid zipper

I unzipped the cover and cut into the inside to show the layers of foam. Its kind of underwhelming but don’t let that fool you. Many brands will simply color the different layers of foam as a marketing ploy. Tempur is more focused on the quality of foam and if you watch my overview view you can see that the foam has a more consistent look and feel.

There are 3 layers of foam here there’s the top comfort layer, a transition layer and the third layer is actually a foam border that goes around the mattress.

tempur breeze hybrid inside

When I peel back the foam border, you can see the pocket coils inside. Less expensive mattresses do not offer a foam border and this usually will mean less edge support. Having a firm foam border means you can maximize your sleeping surface without feeling like you are going to roll off.

tempur breeze hybrid coils

I typically sleep on my side unless the mattress gets too firm and my shoulders get sore. That forces me to move towards my stomach, then later, back to my side. With this mattress, I am able to sleep on my side most of the night without switching positions. Often, if your shoulder is getting sore, you should look at getting a thicker pillow to support your neck.

Tempur Breeze Hybrid Side Sleeping

I really like how much this mattress sinks while still offering good support. Most hybrid mattresses will use firmer coils for support but this mattress takes a more balanced approach. The coils aren’t too firm and the foam is firmer than most hybrids but together you still get a medium-firm feel.

My Tempurpedic Breeze Hybrid Recommendation

Tempurpedic is facing a lot of competition online with the emergence of online brands. While they may not be the cheapest mattress, they are still tops in quality and durability. They also have a feel all their own that I still have not experienced being replicated. Die-hard Tempurpedic loyalists will appreciate the upgrades this mattress provides such as its cooling features and the introduction of springs that still make it feel primarily like a foam mattress but with a bit quicker contouring and more sinkage.

I recommend this mattress to existing Tempurpedic customers looking for an upgrade and for anyone who wants the best in quality from a name that started the memory foam craze.

Tempur Pedic Foam Densities

Unfortunately, Tempur-Pedic does not publicly disclose the specific foam density of their mattress models. This information is considered proprietary and not shared for competitive reasons. The company focuses on the performance and feel of their TEMPUR-Material™ rather than specific density measurements.

However, I can offer some general insights about their foam:

    • TEMPUR-Material™ is generally denser than standard memory foam, contributing to its superior pressure relief, conforming support, and durability.
    • Density can vary within different layers of a mattress to achieve specific comfort and support characteristics.
  • Tempur-Pedic offers a range of firmness levels, so the density likely varies across their models to create the desired feel for each.

Tempur Sealy’s Acquisition of Mattress Firm

What happened?

In May 2023, Tempur Sealy International, the parent company of Tempur-Pedic, announced a definitive agreement to acquire Mattress Firm, the largest mattress retailer in the U.S., for approximately $4 billion. This deal involved:

    • Cash: $2.7 billion
    • Stock: $1.3 billion in Tempur Sealy common stock
    • Estimated completion: Second half of 2024 (possibly later due to FTC review)

Why did it happen?

This acquisition aimed to create a vertically integrated bedding company with significant market share and efficiency.

    • Tempur Sealy: Strong manufacturing capabilities
    • Mattress Firm: Large retail network

By combining forces, they hoped to:

    • Increase market share: Become the leading mattress company in the U.S.
    • Improve efficiency: Streamline operations and reduce costs
    • Enhance customer experience: Offer a wider selection of products and services

Potential implications:

    • Price changes: Some experts believe the merger could lead to higher mattress prices due to reduced competition.
    • Product variety: Tempur Sealy may prioritize its own brands in Mattress Firm stores, potentially limiting the availability of other mattress brands.
    • Store closures: While Tempur Sealy has stated its intention to keep Mattress Firm stores open, some closures are possible.

Current status:

The acquisition is currently under review by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) due to potential concerns about reduced competition in the mattress market.

Why is Tempurpedic So Expensive?

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are undoubtedly on the pricier side of the market, which leads many to wonder why they come with such a hefty price tag. Here are some key factors contributing to their cost:

High-Quality Materials:

    • Unique Memory Foam: Tempur-Pedic uses a proprietary viscoelastic foam formula developed from NASA technology. This material offers exceptional pressure relief and contouring, which other memory foam mattresses may not replicate as effectively.
    • Durable Construction: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are built to last using high-density foams and quality covers. This ensures they maintain their shape and comfort over time, potentially saving you money in the long run.

Research and Development:

    • Constant Innovation: Tempur-Pedic invests heavily in research and development, continuously improving their foam technology and introducing new mattress features. This dedication to innovation comes at a cost, reflected in the final product price.
    • Testing and Certification: Tempur-Pedic mattresses undergo rigorous testing for performance, durability, and safety, earning certifications from independent organizations. This commitment to quality adds to the initial expense.

Brand Recognition and Marketing:

    • Premium Brand Image: Tempur-Pedic has established itself as a premium brand synonymous with luxury and high-quality sleep. This brand recognition contributes to a higher perceived value and justifies a higher price point.
    • Extensive Marketing: Tempur-Pedic invests heavily in marketing campaigns, featuring celebrity endorsements and highlighting the unique benefits of their mattresses. These marketing efforts are necessary to maintain brand awareness and generate sales, but ultimately add to the overall cost.

Other Factors:

    • Retail Markups: The price you pay at a retailer likely includes a markup over the manufacturer’s price. This markup helps cover the retailer’s operating costs and profit margin.
    • Targeted Consumer Base: Tempur-Pedic primarily targets consumers willing to pay a premium for superior comfort and support, further justifying their higher price compared to mattresses aimed at budget-conscious shoppers.

Considering the Value:

While Tempur-Pedic mattresses are expensive, it’s important to consider the potential value they offer:

    • Improved Sleep Quality: Many users report significant improvements in sleep quality after transitioning to a Tempur-Pedic mattress, potentially leading to increased productivity and overall well-being.
    • Reduced Back Pain: The pressure relief provided by Tempur-Pedic foam can be beneficial for those suffering from back pain, potentially saving money on treatments and lost productivity.
  • Durability and Longevity: The sturdy construction and high-quality materials ensure Tempur-Pedic mattresses can last for many years, possibly making them a cost-effective option in the long run.

Tempur Pedic Stores

Finding the nearest Tempur-Pedic store can be a bit tricky, as they don’t have a readily available list of all locations on their website. However, I can help you with a few resources and strategies:

Tempur-Pedic Website:

    • Store locator: While not exhaustive, the Tempur-Pedic website offers a “Find a Retailer” tool that allows you to search by state or city: https://www.tempurpedic.com/find-a-retailer/. This tool can help you identify authorized Tempur-Pedic retailers in your area, which may include both dedicated Tempur-Pedic stores and other retailers that carry their products.

Third-party websites:

    • Rentech Digital: This website provides detailed reports on the retail landscape, including a list of Tempur-Pedic store locations in the US. While the information may not be real-time, it can give you a general idea of store locations: https://rentechdigital.com/
    • Google Maps: You can search for “Tempur-Pedic near me” on Google Maps to find stores in your area. However, be aware that Google Maps may not list all locations, especially smaller or newer ones.

Additional tips:

    • Contact Tempur-Pedic customer service: You can call Tempur-Pedic customer service at 1-800-822-1122 and ask for the nearest store location to you.
    • Check online reviews: Read reviews of Tempur-Pedic stores in your area to get a sense of customer experience and product selection.
    • Consider alternative retailers: Some mattress retailers like Mattress Firm and Macy’s carry a selection of Tempur-Pedic mattresses, so you can check their websites or visit their stores to see what’s available.

Remember:

    • The number of Tempur-Pedic stores can vary depending on the location.
    • Not all authorized retailers carry the full range of Tempur-Pedic products.
  • It’s always best to call ahead or check the store website before visiting to confirm availability and hours of operation.

Can You Negotiate Price On A Tempur Pedic?

While Tempur-Pedic doesn’t officially allow price negotiation, here are some strategies to potentially get a better deal:

1. Shop Around and Compare Prices:

    • Multiple retailers: Check prices at various authorized Tempur-Pedic retailers, including their website, physical stores, and online retailers like Amazon or Mattress Firm.
    • Price matching: If you find a lower price elsewhere, ask the retailer if they’ll match it. Some may be willing to do so, especially if you’re ready to buy.

2. Look for Sales and Promotions:

    • Holiday sales: Tempur-Pedic often runs sales around major holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.
    • Clearance events: Some retailers may offer clearance sales on discontinued or floor models.
    • Trade-in programs: Some retailers may offer discounts if you trade in your old mattress.

3. Negotiate in Person:

    • Brick-and-mortar stores: You may have more negotiating power in a physical store, especially during less busy times.
    • Build rapport: Engage with the salesperson and express interest, but mention budget concerns.
    • Ask for discounts: Inquire about possible discounts, free accessories, or financing options.
    • Walk away, maybe: If they don’t budge, politely express disappointment and consider leaving. They might offer a better deal to keep you.

4. Consider Bundles and Accessories:

    • Bed frames and bases: Buying a mattress with a bed frame or adjustable base can sometimes lead to bundle discounts or free accessories.
    • Accessories: Ask for discounts on pillows, mattress protectors, or other accessories.

5. Take Advantage of Financing Options:

    • Zero-interest financing: Tempur-Pedic often offers interest-free financing for a limited time, making the purchase more affordable.
    • Payment plans: Consider spreading out the cost over a longer period with a payment plan, but be mindful of interest rates.

6. Explore Alternatives:

    • Non-Tempur-Pedic stores: Authorized retailers specializing in mattresses, like Mattress Firm or Macy’s, might be more open to negotiation.
    • Online retailers: Online retailers may offer lower prices due to lower overhead costs.

Remember:

    • Persistence and patience: Be prepared to negotiate and don’t be afraid to walk away if you don’t get the price you want.
    • Respectful approach: Stay polite and respectful throughout the negotiation process.

Even though Tempur-Pedic doesn’t officially negotiate prices, these strategies can help you potentially secure a better deal.

Choosing between Tempur-Pedic and Purple mattresses can be tricky, as both offer unique features and cater to different preferences. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Price:

    • Purple: Can feel a bit “sinking” around the edges, particularly in original models. Hybrid models offer improved edge support.

Other factors:

    • Adjustability: Some Tempur-Pedic models have adjustable comfort layers. Purple mattresses are not adjustable.

Tempurpedic Cloud Review The First Tempurpedic in a Box!

Tempurpedic Cloud Review

The Tempur-Cloud is made with a combination of soft and firm TEMPUR material for the perfect medium feel. It features superior conforming comfort and motion isolation so you can sleep soundly and get more restorative rest.

The Tempur-Cloud is also backed by a 90-night trial, so you can try it out for yourself and see if it’s the right mattress for you. If you’re not satisfied, simply return it for a full refund.

Here are some of the benefits of the Tempur-Cloud mattress:

  • Conforming comfort: The TEMPUR material molds to your body’s unique shape and weight, providing pressure relief and support where you need it most.
  • Motion isolation: The TEMPUR material absorbs motion, so you won’t be disturbed by your partner’s movements during the night.
  • Coolness: The TEMPUR material is designed to help you stay cool and comfortable while you sleep.
  • Durability: The TEMPUR material is built to last, so you can enjoy a good night’s sleep for years to come.

If you’re looking for a high-quality mattress that is available in a box, the Tempur-Cloud is a great option to consider.

Tempurpedic is the original memory foam mattress and ever since introducing the world to memory foam, they have been associated with comfort and quality. Tempurpedic mattresses are still highly rated for their long lifespan, providing comfort well past the industry standard of 7 years. It’s not uncommon for former Tempurpedic customers coming into the Yawnder stores to say they have been on their Tempurpedic for 10, 15, and even 20+ years! Obviously they are coming into our showrooms because the mattress no longer works for them but that is quite remarkable and is a testament to the quality of Tempurpedic and that in this case, you get what you pay for.

Recently, Tempurpedic introduced The Tempur Cloud, their first mattress in a box, or more accurately, in a zippable bag. This reduces shipping costs, eliminates the need to schedule a home delivery and installation, and makes it easier to move it into the room of your choice. I have reviewed 3 other, more expensive Tempurpedic models before the Cloud and I found that while it lacks some of the finer features of the more expensive options, you still get a quality mattress that should outlive most of the other online brands.

Overview of the Tempur Cloud

This mattress comes in a bag with a zipper on top which makes is very easy to open. There are also handles on each side so you can get it up the stairs. I just dragged mine over each step as a king-size weighs almost 100 lbs. This bag isn’t flimsy either, the handles held up and didn’t come loose at the seams.

How is the Tempurpedic Cloud Made?

Tempurpedic Cloud Construction

Below are the construction details of the mattress. There’s really no mystery to what’s inside. At first glance, you may think this is just an overpriced 3 layer foam mattress. But it’s the quality of the foam that makes all the difference and this is where Tempurpedic really shines. Tempurpedic is still the best when it comes to foam. The feel is consistent, and the foam is dense and durable to last longer than other online brands. Tempur doesn’t get into details on density but ask any Tempurpedic owner and the vast majority will speak to the longevity of the mattress.

My Tempurpedic Cloud Experience

I have been sleeping on this mattress for 3 weeks and it takes some getting used to, especially if you are coming from a mattress with springs. I am used to sleeping on spring and foam mattresses but the Tempurpedic mattresses always feel a bit firm at first. They aren’t kidding when they say they require a break-in period. You need to give the mattress at least a couple of weeks before you can truly tell if it’s right for you. It took me that long and the more I slept on it the more I like it.

Tempurpedic mattresses have no motion transfer. Here is a video illustrating this. Tempurpedic ran commercials in the 90s and 2000s with the wine glasses.

My Tempurpedic Cloud Findings

This mattress is going to feel firmer than your typical medium-firm mattress. I think what they were trying to do here is provide a mattress that is going to appeal to a broad range of sleepers and in that regard, I think they hit the mark. As long as you have the right expectations, you should be happy with this mattress. By that I mean, don’t expect it to sink in all that much. This mattress has great pressure relief but it is not one of those that will provide a pillow top feel. Below you can see that my 14lb. bowling ball doesn’t sink in all that much.

tempur cloud sinkage

My Tempur Cloud Recommendation

If you always wanted to own a Tempurpedic but were turned off by the price, the Cloud is a great entry model to get all the quality of a Tempurpedic without spending an arm and a leg. You also won’t be sacrificing all that much. Some of the more expensive models offer cooling fabric covers or an extra layer of foam but honestly, the cooling fabrics only provide temporary relief and as I said in my video review, the best way to stay cool is to run a fan and/or the air conditioning although your first step should be to assess what kind of covers you are using. If you have a down comforter, swap it out for a think blanket.

Tempurpedic a great choice for people that want to get it right the first time. The Cloud is an excellent value in that it will last longer than the vast majority of online competitors and you get all the assurances that a big company like Tempurpedic can provide.

Tempurpedic vs. Online Mattress Brands

Tempur-Pedic is a well-established and respected brand in the mattress industry, known for its high-quality memory foam mattresses. While there are numerous online mattress brands offering various features and benefits, Tempur-Pedic stands out in several key areas when compared to these online competitors. Here are some factors to consider when comparing Tempur-Pedic to online mattress brands:

  1. Materials and Quality: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made from proprietary TEMPUR material, a viscoelastic foam originally developed by NASA. This unique material provides superior pressure relief, motion isolation, and temperature regulation compared to traditional memory foam. Many online mattress brands use more generic memory foam or lower-quality materials, which may not deliver the same level of performance and durability as Tempur-Pedic.

  2. Adaptability and Comfort: Tempur-Pedic’s advanced memory foam technology contours to your body shape and weight, providing personalized support and comfort. While many online mattress brands offer adaptable materials, they may not match the level of customization and pressure relief that TEMPUR material provides.

  3. Longevity and Durability: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are known for their longevity and ability to maintain their shape and support over time. Online mattress brands may use lower-density foams or other materials that may wear out or sag more quickly, requiring replacement sooner.

  4. Reputation and Trustworthiness: Tempur-Pedic has been in the mattress industry for over 30 years and has built a reputation for quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. While some online mattress brands have gained popularity and positive reviews in recent years, they may not have the same level of trustworthiness and proven track record as Tempur-Pedic.

  5. Trial Period and Warranty: Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night trial period and a 10-year warranty on its mattresses. Although many online mattress brands offer similar trial periods and warranties, Tempur-Pedic’s long-standing reputation in the industry adds an extra layer of confidence when purchasing their products.

  6. Customer Support: As an established brand, Tempur-Pedic has a dedicated customer support team to address any concerns or issues you may have. While online mattress brands often have customer support, their level of responsiveness and expertise may vary significantly.

While online mattress brands offer competitive pricing and convenience, Tempur-Pedic’s reputation, material quality, and proven performance make it a reliable and worthwhile investment for those seeking a premium sleep experience.

In this video I illustrate how it handles motion. although it does have a pocket coil system, because the mattress is so firm, there is very little movement.

I cut into the back side of the mattress to show you each layer. Here’s what it looks like inside. The cover is stitched as opposed to a zipper cover. This made it harder to get into with scissors which is why it doesn’t look so pretty.

Inside Beautyrest Black

Here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. You can’t see the springs in this video because they are behind the perimeter foam.

Finally, I dug into the mattress so that I can show you the pocket coil system.

True to its name, this is a firm mattress. You won’t sink much into this mattress which makes it optimal for stomach sleepers or anyone who likes a firm mattress. I also think it would be a great choice for heavy sleepers as it will give you proper support where you need it and the spring system will work to sink a bit more.

I really like how the Calista is layered. Although it is firm, it didn’t feel hard. You can lay on this mattress for a long time without feeling uncomfortable.

My Serta iComfort Findings

This mattress is certainly a firm mattress but the top layer is nice and soft. You will sink just a little into this mattress before you are supported by the base layer underneath. Here’s a picture illustrating sinkage on the mattress.

iComfort Blue Sink

Here’s another photo illustrating sinkage from the top of the mattress.

serta icomfort blue sinkageHere’s a video showing how much motion transfer you can expect on the mattress. You really don’t get any and you will also notice that the ball doesn’t bounce that much because you will hit the firmer base layer to absorb the energy.

This video shows you the inside of the mattress and how each layer works. You’ll notice that the top layer provides really good pressure relief but you won’t sink into this mattress that much which is good for people seeking a firmer feel.

My Serta iComfort Recommendation

What sets this mattress apart from the competition is that Serta has been able to create a mattress with a soft top layer and firm base layer to create a unique feel. With most firm mattresses you get very little contouring. Here you quickly sink into the mattress about an inch then are instantly supported by the base layer. This mattress could be used by side sleepers but I think back and especially stomach sleepers will appreciate the support in the lower back.

Since there are no springs, you won’t be dealing with any motion transfer issues and although it is all foam and will sleep a little warm, you won’t sink in as much as a softer mattress so that shouldn’t be as big of an issue. I also think this would make a great mattress for heavier people who need the support a traditional mattress may not provide.

Serta iComfort Blue vs. The iComfort Lineup: A Comparative Insight

For years, Serta’s iComfort series has been a beacon of innovation in the mattress world, setting new benchmarks for comfort and durability. Among the line-up, the iComfort Blue has emerged as a popular choice. But how does it stack up against its siblings in the iComfort range? This comprehensive comparison sheds light on the iComfort Blue’s distinct attributes and how it contrasts with the other models within the series.

Serta iComfort Blue: The Basics

The iComfort Blue is characterized by its multi-layered foam construction, emphasizing pressure point relief and cooling technology. Its features include:

  1. Gel Memory Foam: The mattress utilizes TempActiv™ Gel Memory Foam, designed to provide cushioning support while also assisting in heat dispersion.

  2. Enhanced Airflow: The incorporation of the EverCool® Fuze Gel Foam boosts airflow, ensuring sleepers stay cool throughout the night.

  3. Balanced Support: The Balanced Support Foam layer aids in striking a balance between plush comfort and adequate firmness.

Comparison with Other iComfort Models

  1. iComfort Blue Max: The Blue Max stands out due to its thicker profile and additional layers. It boasts a more advanced temperature regulation system, thanks to the TempActiv Max Gel Memory Foam. While the iComfort Blue offers a medium firmness level, the Blue Max provides options ranging from ultra-plush to firm.

  2. iComfort Hybrid: As the name suggests, this model integrates both foam and coil systems. While the iComfort Blue relies solely on foam layers for support, the Hybrid introduces the Serta Hybrid Coil™ for added durability and responsiveness. This combination ensures a more traditional mattress feel with the added benefits of advanced foams.

  3. iComfort CF Series (e.g., CF1000, CF2000, etc.): These models dive deeper into cooling technology. The CF series incorporates Carbon Fiber Memory Foam, which channels heat away from the body and provides neck-to-toe support. While the iComfort Blue emphasizes balanced support, the CF models prioritize cooling and a broader range of firmness options.

  4. iComfort Savant: The Savant is geared towards those seeking a plusher sleep experience. Unlike the balanced feel of the iComfort Blue, the Savant leans more towards the softer end of the spectrum. It combines deep contouring foam layers with enhanced cooling technologies.

The iComfort Blue holds its ground as a reliable choice for those seeking balanced support with the benefits of gel memory foam and cooling technologies. However, when juxtaposed with other models in the iComfort lineup, distinctions emerge. Whether it’s the hybrid construction, advanced cooling systems, or varied firmness levels, each iComfort model has been crafted to cater to specific sleep preferences.

For potential buyers, the choice ultimately rests on individual needs: whether that’s a desire for more pronounced cooling, the combined support of coils and foam, or a specific firmness level. In the diverse world of Serta’s iComfort range, there’s undoubtedly a perfect match for every sleeper.

2. Purple Mattress

Purple’s claim to fame is its proprietary Hyper-Elastic Polymer Grid. This unique structure not only offers pressure relief akin to memory foam but also exceptional breathability. For those drawn to the iComfort Blue’s cooling capabilities, Purple serves as a noteworthy alternative, with its grid facilitating optimal airflow.

3. Nectar Memory Foam Mattress

Nectar’s offering captures attention with its five-layer construction. Like the iComfort Blue, Nectar emphasizes contouring and support. With a combination of gel memory foam and adaptive response transition layers, this mattress promises a balance between plushness and support, all while ensuring a cooler sleep environment.

4. Sealy Posturepedic Conform Performance

Sealy, another giant in the bedding industry, presents its Conform Performance series as a testament to foam innovation. Infused with cooling gel, this mattress aims to strike the balance found in iComfort Blue—combining conforming memory foam with cooling technology to ensure both comfort and temperature regulation.

5. GhostBed Luxe

Billing itself as the “coolest bed in the world”, the GhostBed Luxe focuses intently on thermo-regulation. Its multi-layered design, which includes gel memory foam and a proprietary “Ghost Ice Layer”, seeks to create a consistently cool sleeping surface. For iComfort Blue enthusiasts drawn to its cooling capabilities, GhostBed Luxe stands as a compelling contender.

While Serta’s iComfort Blue has etched its presence in the pantheon of premium foam mattresses, the market is replete with contenders offering similar sleep experiences. Each brand, armed with its proprietary technologies and design philosophies, seeks to redefine sleep comfort. For the discerning consumer, this presents a golden age of choice, ensuring that the path to sleep perfection is but a mattress away.

Novaform Mattress: Are the Benefits Worth the Investment?

In today’s fast-paced world, getting a good night’s sleep is more important than ever. As a result, consumers are looking for high-quality mattresses that not only provide comfort but also support to ensure a restful and rejuvenating slumber. One popular choice on the market is the Novaform mattress. With its range of options and unique features, it has gained a loyal following among consumers. In this article, we’ll delve deeper into the Novaform mattress and explore its benefits, drawbacks, and potential suitability for you.

A Brief Overview of Novaform Mattresses

Novaform, a subsidiary of Innocor Inc., is known for its premium memory foam mattresses. Their products are highly regarded for their comfort, durability, and quality. They offer various options, including the popular Serafina Pearl Gel and Firm models, catering to different preferences in terms of firmness and support. Novaform mattresses are exclusively available at Costco, making them a convenient and accessible choice for many shoppers.

The Advantages of Choosing Novaform

There are several benefits to choosing a Novaform mattress, which we will outline below.

1. Affordability

One of the primary advantages of Novaform mattresses is their affordability. While they offer high-quality materials and construction, their prices are comparatively lower than other premium memory foam mattresses in the market. This makes them an attractive option for budget-conscious shoppers.

2. Pressure Relief and Support

Novaform mattresses are known for providing excellent pressure relief and support. The memory foam used in their mattresses contours to the body, distributing weight evenly and reducing pressure points. This can help alleviate pain and discomfort in the back, hips, and shoulders, promoting a more restful sleep.

3. Motion Isolation

Another notable feature of Novaform mattresses is their ability to isolate motion. This means that when one person moves or gets up from the bed, the other person is less likely to be disturbed. This is particularly beneficial for light sleepers or couples with different sleep schedules.

4. Temperature Regulation

Some Novaform models, such as the Serafina Pearl Gel, incorporate gel-infused memory foam to help regulate temperature. This can prevent overheating during the night and provide a more comfortable sleep environment.

Potential Drawbacks of Novaform Mattresses

While there are numerous advantages to choosing a Novaform mattress, there are also some potential drawbacks to consider.

1. Firmness Level

Some customers have reported that the firmness level of their Novaform mattress was not as expected. While this is a subjective matter and largely dependent on personal preference, it is essential to carefully consider the firmness level that best suits your needs before making a purchase.

2. Off-Gassing

As with many memory foam mattresses, Novaform mattresses may produce an initial off-gassing odor when first unpacked. While this is generally harmless and dissipates within a few days, it may be bothersome for some individuals.

3. Limited Availability

Novaform mattresses are exclusively sold at Costco, which may be inconvenient for some shoppers. This also means that there are limited opportunities to test the mattress in person before purchasing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Novaform mattresses offer a range of benefits, including affordability, pressure relief, motion isolation, and temperature regulation. However, some potential drawbacks, such as firmness level and off-gassing, should be considered before making a purchase. Overall, if you’re looking for a high-quality memory foam mattress at a competitive price, a Novaform mattress may be a suitable option for you. Just be sure to carefully evaluate your personal preferences and needs to ensure you’re making the right choice for your sleep needs.

Novaform vs. Nectar: A Comprehensive Comparison of Memory Foam Mattresses

When it comes to investing in a memory foam mattress, consumers are often faced with a plethora of choices, making the decision-making process a challenging one. Two popular options in the market are the Novaform and Nectar mattresses. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive comparison of these two mattress brands, discussing their advantages, disadvantages, and key differences in an authoritative and journalistic manner.

Novaform: A Brief Overview

As previously mentioned, Novaform is a subsidiary of Innocor Inc., offering a range of premium memory foam mattresses. Known for their affordability, pressure relief, and support, Novaform mattresses are exclusively available at Costco. Some of their popular models include the Serafina Pearl Gel and Firm mattresses.

Nectar: A Brief Overview

Nectar, on the other hand, is a direct-to-consumer mattress company that has gained popularity for its high-quality memory foam mattresses. Their flagship product, the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress, is highly regarded for its comfort, support, and value for money. Nectar offers a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty, making it an attractive choice for many consumers.

Key Comparisons: Novaform vs. Nectar

1. Price

Both Novaform and Nectar mattresses offer competitive pricing for their products. While Novaform is generally more affordable, Nectar’s pricing is also reasonable, especially considering the added benefits of a longer trial period and a lifetime warranty.

2. Firmness Level and Support

Novaform offers various firmness options to cater to different preferences, while Nectar mattresses have a medium-firm feel, which is generally suitable for most sleepers. Both brands provide excellent pressure relief and support, with memory foam that contours to the body and evenly distributes weight.

3. Temperature Regulation

Novaform’s Serafina Pearl Gel mattress incorporates gel-infused memory foam to help regulate temperature, preventing overheating during sleep. Nectar mattresses, on the other hand, feature a Tencel cooling cover and gel-infused memory foam, which also aid in temperature regulation.

4. Motion Isolation

Both Novaform and Nectar mattresses excel in motion isolation, ensuring that one person’s movements do not disturb their partner. This feature is particularly beneficial for couples or light sleepers.

5. Trial Period and Warranty

Nectar has a significant advantage in this area, offering a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty on its mattresses. This provides customers with peace of mind and ample time to test the mattress to ensure it meets their needs. Novaform mattresses, while backed by a 20-year warranty, do not offer an extended trial period, which may be a drawback for some customers.

6. Availability

While Novaform mattresses are exclusively available at Costco, Nectar mattresses can be purchased directly from the company’s website or through various online retailers. This makes Nectar more widely available and accessible than Novaform.

Conclusion

Both Novaform and Nectar offer high-quality memory foam mattresses with a range of benefits, such as pressure relief, motion isolation, and temperature regulation. While Novaform has a slight edge in affordability, Nectar’s longer trial period and lifetime warranty make it an attractive choice for those seeking additional security in their purchase. Ultimately, the decision between Novaform and Nectar will depend on individual preferences, budget, and accessibility. It’s crucial for consumers to carefully evaluate their needs and requirements to make the best choice for their sleep needs.

Tempur Luxe Breeze scaled

The latest model of the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze debuted in January 2023. It features a number of improvements over the previous model, including:

  • A new Pure Cool® Plus material that is designed to be even more effective at pulling heat away from the body.
  • A new Heat-Diffusing Layer that is placed between the cover and the Pure Cool® Plus material to help distribute heat more evenly across the mattress.
  • A new Ventilated Advanced Relief™ material that is designed to be more breathable than previous materials, allowing for better airflow and heat dissipation.
  • A new removable and washable SmartClimate® Cover that helps to keep the mattress cool and comfortable.

In addition to these improvements, the new Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze also features a number of other features that make it a great choice for sleepers who are looking for a cool and comfortable mattress, such as:

Overall, the new Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze is a significant improvement over the previous model. It features a number of new and improved technologies that make it even cooler, more comfortable, and more supportive.

Overview of the Tempurpedic Luxe Breeze

Here’s a video overview of the Tempurpedic Luxe Breeze. Unlike most of the mattresses, I review this one can actually be tried out in stores.

You can buy this mattress is a retail partner store, through their website or even over the phone. However you buy it, you are backed by a 90 day try out period. This means that you can sleep on it for 90 nights and if you don’t like it you can return it. Just note that Tempurpedic may charge a shipping fee of $175 for the return. This mattress comes with white glove delivery. You will get a call to schedule delivery of your mattress and it will be delivered to the room of your choosing. The delivery company will unbox the mattress and put it on your bed. Unlike most online companies, this mattress comes delivered its full size so there’s no waiting for it to fully decompress.

tempurpedic box

Tempurpedic mattresses have other conveniences that other companies overlook such as handles underneath the mattress which make it easy to transport or rotate.

Construction of the Tempur-breeze luxe

Below are the construction details of this mattress.

tempur breeze construction

A) Smart Climate Dual Cover System: Zip-off, cool-to-touch outer layer.
B) Pure Cool+ Phase Change Material: Exclusive technology that absorbs heat so you feel cooler.
C) TEMPUR-CM+ Material: Advanced TEMPUR material redesigned with maximum airflow for all-night cooling.
D) Ventilated TEMPUR-APR Material: Our most pressure-relieving material ever – now with an ultra-breathable design.

Here’s a picture of the mattress without the cover. As you can see the foam is cleanly cut, they don’t use too much glue and the inside looks just as nice as the outside. They even have a rfid tag on the foam so they can discern when are where the foam was made for quality control.

My Tempurpedic Luxe Breeze Findings

Given the price of this mattress, I had very high expectations going into my review. While looks certainly aren’t everything, the do matter. I have come to find over the years that mattresses that look good often feel good. What I mean by that is the mattress is symmetrical, there are no sagging corners or loose threads, branding is clear, zippers are functional and the box it is shipped in is clean and sturdy. This mattress checks all those boxes.

Here you can clearly see the Tempurpedic logo and make and model. I’m sure this is in part because they are primarily sold in retails stores but it is nice to know right away that you got what you paid for and there is no doubt about the make and model.

logo 2tempurpedic logo

This mattress actually has two zipper systems. One is accessible from the bottom and will allow you to take off the entire cover and the other will unzip the top cover. As you can see even the zippers are high quality, easy to use and durable.

tempurpedic zipper

What struck me first about this mattress was the cover. It just feels luxurious. I could tell right away that it was well made and will hold up for many years. Cheap covers can actually tear over time or more likely tear when they are being transported. The cover also plays a big part in the overall feel of the mattress.

For this review, I received the soft version of the LUXE breeze. Below you can see how much by 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. Tempurpedic mattresses normally skew a bit firmer than most mattresses. With the soft version, I found it to contour very well without sinking too much. The newer Tempurpedic models such as this one have faster recovery times without sacrificing pressure relief. If you want an ultra-soft mattress, this probably won’t be it but I think most people, especially side and back sleepers will really like how this mattress contours to your body.

bowling ball

Here’s another shot of contouring without the cover on.

tempur luxe breeze sink

There are many brands now that have cooling technology built into the mattress. But, they vary wildly in how much cooling material they actually add. With this mattress, they don’t skimp. You will notice right away how cool it feels when you lay down. The idea is that it will cool your body to prepare for sleep and thus help you fall asleep just a bit faster.

Because this cover is made with a phase change material, I advise against washing it. You can wash it in a washing machine with cold or warm water, but it will decrease the cooling effectiveness of the cover. I advise using a mattress protector instead.

Memory foam is notorious for sleeping hot and normally the denser the foam the more heat it will trap. The LUXE Breeze is able to give you durable, quality foam with a new technology to help you sleep cooler giving you all the benefits of foam without any of the drawbacks.

Tempurpedic Cover

My Tempurpedic Breeze Luxe Recommendation

Tempurpedic mattresses are not cheap. This model costs $4,499 for a queen size but keep in mind that Tempur often throws in incentives like 0% apr financing, credit towards an adjustable bed or other discounts throughout the year. You might be wondering what justifies the cost of this mattress over others. In short, I think it comes down to quality. You are buying a brand that knows how to make a foam mattress better than anyone. You are also getting quality material throughout from a company that will be around for a long time.

If mattresses were cars, the Tempurpedic would be the Maserati of mattresses. It looks and performs perfectly but it also comes with a cost. If you want to make a serious investment in your sleep, definitely check out the Luxe Breeze.

The typical price of the Tempurpedic Luxe Breeze mattress can vary depending on the size you choose. Prices generally range from around $3,999 for a Twin XL to approximately $7,998 for a Split California King. Keep in mind that these prices are subject to change and may vary depending on any promotions or discounts that Tempurpedic may be offering at the time.

To ensure that you’re getting the best deal on your Luxe Breeze mattress, we recommend purchasing directly from Tempurpedic’s official website. Buying from their website not only guarantees that you’re getting an authentic product, but it also often provides access to exclusive promotions, financing options, and a more streamlined customer service experience. Additionally, Tempurpedic’s website is the best place to stay up-to-date on the latest information regarding product specifications, warranties, and sleep trial periods.

When a customer returns a mattress to Sam’s Club, the store follows a specific process to determine the next steps for the mattress.

First, the mattress is inspected to determine its condition. If the mattress is in new and unused condition, it may be repackaged and sold as new. However, if the mattress shows signs of use or damage, it cannot be sold as new and will be handled differently.

In many cases, returned mattresses that cannot be sold as new are donated to local charities or non-profit organizations. These organizations may be able to use the mattresses to help those in need.

If the returned mattress cannot be donated, it may be recycled. Sam’s Club works with third-party recycling companies to ensure that the mattresses are recycled responsibly, and that any reusable materials are used in new products. This helps to reduce waste and promote sustainability.

Overall, Sam’s Club has a process in place to handle returned mattresses in a responsible and sustainable manner, while also giving back to the community.

Advantages of Buying A Sam’s Club Mattress

When it comes to buying a mattress, both Sam’s Club and retail stores offer distinct advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide which option might be better for you:

Sam’s Club:

Advantages:

  • Lower Price: Due to bulk buying and membership discounts, Sam’s Club often offers lower prices on mattresses compared to many retail stores.
  • Wide Brand Selection: You’ll find various national brands and their own Member’s Mark private label mattresses.
  • Convenience: One-stop shopping with potential bulk discounts on other household items.
  • White Glove Delivery: Some Sam’s Club mattresses include free white-glove delivery and setup.
  • Exclusive Member Deals: You might access member-only promotions and coupons for further savings.

Disadvantages:

  • Membership Fee: Requires a paid membership, which adds to the overall cost.
  • Limited Selection: While offering various brands, Sam’s Club might have fewer mattress models within each brand compared to a dedicated mattress store.
  • No Trial Period: Unlike some retail stores, Sam’s Club doesn’t offer in-home trial periods for mattresses.
  • Limited Return Policy: The 90-day return window might be stricter than some retail stores, particularly for used mattresses.
  • Bulk Packaging: Consider potential storage or disposal challenges if it doesn’t fit easily in your vehicle.

Retail Store:

Advantages:

  • Wider Selection: Dedicated mattress stores often offer a broader range of models and brands to choose from, allowing for more personalized comparison.
  • Trial Periods: Many stores offer in-home trial periods, allowing you to test the mattress for comfort before committing.
  • Expert Advice: Salespeople might have more specialized knowledge about different mattress types and features to guide your decision.
  • Flexible Return Policy: Some stores offer more lenient return policies, even for used mattresses, within a specific timeframe.
  • No Membership Fee: You don’t need a membership to shop, eliminating the additional cost.

Disadvantages:

  • Higher Price: Generally, retail stores have higher individual mattress prices compared to Sam’s Club bulk discounts.
  • Less Convenience: Requires visiting multiple stores for comparison and potentially purchasing other household items elsewhere.
  • Delivery Fees: Delivery and setup might involve additional costs not included in the mattress price.

Ultimately, the best option depends on your priorities:

  • Focus on lowest price: Sam’s Club might be ideal if budget is a top concern.
  • Value selection and personalization: A dedicated mattress store offers more options and potential expert guidance.
  • Test before you buy: If in-home trials are important, prioritize stores with that policy.
  • Convenience and membership perks: Weigh the membership fee against potential savings and bundled purchases at Sam’s Club.

Remember, research specific mattress models and compare prices across both options before making your final decision.

Aireloom mattresses are known for their high prices, which can be several times more expensive than other premium mattress brands. Here are some factors that contribute to the high cost of Aireloom mattresses:

  1. Handcrafted construction: Aireloom mattresses are made by skilled craftsmen who take great care in constructing each mattress by hand. This process requires a significant amount of time and skill, which drives up the cost of production.

  2. High-quality materials: Aireloom mattresses use only the highest quality materials, such as natural latex, silk, cashmere, and high-density foams. These materials are more expensive than the synthetic materials used in many other mattresses.

  3. Innovative technology: Aireloom mattresses incorporate innovative technologies such as their patented “Aireloom Lift” system, which allows for superior support and comfort. These technologies are costly to develop and implement.

  4. Exclusive distribution: Aireloom mattresses are often sold through exclusive retailers, which allows the company to maintain control over the pricing and distribution of their products.

  5. Reputation: Aireloom has a long history of producing high-quality mattresses and has established itself as a luxury brand. The company’s reputation for quality and craftsmanship drives up demand and allows them to charge premium prices.

Overall, the combination of high-quality materials, handcrafted construction, innovative technology, and exclusive distribution contribute to the high cost of Aireloom mattresses. While these mattresses may not be affordable for everyone, those who are willing to invest in a premium sleep experience may find that they are worth the extra cost.

Aireloom vs. Boxed Mattresses is There a Difference?

Aireloom and bed-in-a-box mattresses are quite different in terms of construction, price, and buying experience. Here are some of the main differences between Aireloom and bed-in-a-box mattresses:

Construction: Aireloom mattresses are handmade and use high-quality materials such as natural latex, cashmere, and silk, as well as patented technologies such as the “Aireloom Lift” system. Bed-in-a-box mattresses, on the other hand, are typically made using foam and are compressed and rolled for shipping.

Price: Aireloom mattresses are much more expensive than bed-in-a-box mattresses. Aireloom mattresses can cost several thousand dollars, while bed-in-a-box mattresses generally cost between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Buying experience: Aireloom mattresses are typically sold through high-end retailers or the Aireloom website, and customers may have the opportunity to try out the mattress in-store before purchasing. Bed-in-a-box mattresses are sold online and often come with a risk-free sleep trial period, allowing customers to try out the mattress in their own home and return it if they are not satisfied.

Comfort and support: Aireloom mattresses are known for their luxurious feel and targeted support, while bed-in-a-box mattresses can vary in terms of comfort and support depending on the brand and model.

Overall, Aireloom and bed-in-a-box mattresses are designed for different types of customers. Aireloom mattresses are ideal for those who value luxury, craftsmanship, and targeted support, and are willing to invest in a high-end sleep experience. Bed-in-a-box mattresses are a good option for those who are looking for a more affordable and convenient mattress option that can be purchased online and shipped directly to their doorstep.

The Aireloom Trial and Warranty

Aireloom mattresses are typically quite expensive compared to other mattress brands, and the prices can vary depending on the model and size of the mattress. Prices can range from a few thousand dollars up to tens of thousands of dollars for the highest-end models.

Aireloom offers a 100-night sleep trial for their mattresses when purchased directly from their website. This trial period allows customers to try out the mattress for 100 nights and return it for a full refund if they are not satisfied with the mattress. However, it’s important to note that some retailers may have their own return policies, so be sure to check with the retailer before purchasing.

Aireloom also offers a limited warranty on their mattresses, which covers defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty period varies depending on the model of the mattress, but it typically ranges from 10 to 25 years. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by misuse or abuse, or changes in firmness that are considered normal.

OVERVIEW

History of Sleep Number

Sleep Number Corporation, formerly known as Select Comfort Corporation, is an American company that manufactures and sells adjustable air mattresses, bedding, and other sleep-related products. The company is best known for its Sleep Number beds, which allow users to customize the firmness of their mattresses.

The history of Sleep Number can be traced back to 1987, when it was founded by Robert Walker and JoAnn Walker in Plymouth, Minnesota. The Walkers were inspired to create a mattress that could be adjusted to individual preferences, resulting in the invention of the Sleep Number bed. Their innovative design used air-chamber technology to allow users to adjust the firmness of the mattress according to their preferred sleep number, ranging from 0 to 100.

In 1991, the company began to expand its retail presence by opening its first store. Throughout the 1990s, Sleep Number experienced rapid growth, thanks to the popularity of its unique mattresses and an emphasis on customer satisfaction. The company went public in 1998, listing on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol SCSS.

In the 2000s, Sleep Number continued to innovate and expand its product lineup. The company introduced the first wireless remote control for its beds in 2004, and in 2007, it launched the Sleep Number 360 smart bed, which incorporated sensors to monitor sleep quality and make automatic adjustments to the mattress firmness and position.

In 2012, Sleep Number acquired Comfortaire Corporation, another adjustable air mattress manufacturer. This acquisition allowed the company to expand its product portfolio and further solidify its position in the adjustable mattress market.

In 2017, Select Comfort Corporation officially rebranded as Sleep Number Corporation to align the company’s name with its flagship product. Today, Sleep Number operates hundreds of stores across the United States and sells its products online and through various retail partners. The company remains committed to improving sleep quality and comfort through ongoing innovation and personalized sleep solutions.

Overall, while I cannot comment on the specific motion transfer capabilities of this mattress, Sleep Number is a well-regarded brand and has developed a reputation for producing high-quality sleep products that prioritize comfort and support.

It does have an air chamber for the base layer which can cause more motion transfer than an all foam mattress.

Temperature Regulation

4.7/5

Temperature regulation is important for sleep because it can significantly impact the quality of our sleep. Our body temperature naturally fluctuates throughout the day and night, with the lowest body temperature occurring during the early morning hours. When we sleep, our bodies go through different stages of sleep, each with its own temperature regulation needs.

If our sleeping environment is too warm or too cold, it can interfere with our body’s natural temperature regulation and disrupt our sleep. If the bedroom is too warm, it can lead to sweating and discomfort, which can cause restlessness and waking up during the night. On the other hand, if the bedroom is too cold, it can cause shivering and discomfort, which can also disturb our sleep.

Temperature regulation is especially important for achieving restorative sleep. During the deepest stages of sleep, our body temperature drops to its lowest point, which can help our body repair and rejuvenate itself. If the bedroom is too warm, it can interfere with this natural process and reduce the amount of deep sleep we get, leading to feeling groggy and unrefreshed in the morning.

By regulating the temperature of our sleeping environment, we can create a comfortable and supportive space for restful sleep. This can help us fall asleep more quickly, stay asleep for longer periods of time, and wake up feeling more refreshed and energized in the morning.

The Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed with advanced temperature control technology that can help you stay comfortable throughout the night, regardless of the season or your personal preferences. Here’s how the temperature control system works:

  1. Active Temperature Balancing: The bed’s Active Temperature Balancing system uses a combination of air flow and thermal sensors to detect changes in temperature and humidity throughout the night. This system can adjust the temperature of the bed in real-time, responding to your body’s needs and ensuring that you remain comfortable throughout the night.

  2. Personalized Temperature Settings: The bed allows you to set your preferred temperature range for both the surface of the bed and the air that surrounds you. You can choose to warm up or cool down the bed, depending on your personal preferences, and adjust the temperature as needed throughout the night.

  3. Dual Climate Zones: The bed offers dual climate zones, so you and your partner can each set your own temperature preferences. This can help you both stay comfortable throughout the night, even if you have different temperature needs.

  4. SleepIQ Technology: The bed’s SleepIQ technology can monitor your temperature preferences and track how your body responds to different temperature settings. This can help you identify your ideal temperature range and adjust your settings over time to maximize your comfort.

  5. Voice Control: The bed can be controlled using voice commands through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, making it easy to adjust the temperature without getting out of bed.

Overall, the Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed offers a range of features designed to provide personalized temperature control and help you stay comfortable throughout the night. Whether you prefer a warm or cool sleeping environment, the bed’s advanced technology can help you achieve your ideal temperature range and improve your overall sleep quality.

Edge Support

4.4/5

The bed is designed with responsive air technology and foam comfort layers that can provide support across the entire sleep surface, including the edges. Additionally, the bed allows for individualized firmness adjustments on each side, which can further help to minimize the risk of sagging or uneven support.

It’s worth noting that edge support can be an important consideration when choosing a mattress, especially for those who share a bed or use the edge of the bed for sitting or getting in and out of bed. If you have specific concerns about edge support or sagging, it’s a good idea to consult with the manufacturer or read reviews from other customers who have used the mattress to get a better sense of how it performs in this regard.

How Easy is it to Change Positions?

4.4/5

The Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed to allow you to change positions easily throughout the night. The bed features responsive air technology and foam comfort layers that can contour to your body’s shape, providing targeted support for your spine and joints. This can help you maintain proper alignment and reduce pressure points, making it easier to shift positions and find a comfortable sleep position.

Additionally, the bed allows you to adjust the firmness or softness of your side of the bed independently from your partner’s side. This means you can customize the level of support you receive and adjust it as needed to find the most comfortable sleep position for your body.

Overall, the Sleep Number Climate 360 Smart Bed is designed to provide personalized comfort and support that can help you change positions easily throughout the night and wake up feeling more rested and refreshed.

Sex

4.4/5

They may not be the most ideal choice compared to other types of mattresses. Here are a few things to consider if you’re planning to have sex on an air mattress:

  1. Firmness: Air mattresses can be adjusted to different levels of firmness, which can be helpful for finding the right level of support and comfort during sex. However, some air mattresses may not offer the same level of stability or responsiveness as other types of mattresses, which can make it more difficult to move around and find a comfortable position.

  2. Noise: Depending on the air pump and material of the air mattress, they may produce noise during sex, which can be distracting or uncomfortable.

  3. Durability: Air mattresses may not be as durable as other types of mattresses, particularly if they are used frequently for sex. They can be punctured or damaged more easily than traditional mattresses, which can be a hassle to repair or replace.

Off-Gassing

4.4/5

Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from certain materials or products, including mattresses. VOCs are chemicals that can be emitted as gases from products or materials, which can potentially cause negative health effects if they are inhaled in high concentrations over time.

Many mattresses, including some air mattresses, are made with foam materials, which can sometimes emit a slight odor or VOCs when they are first unpacked. This is typically referred to as off-gassing. Off-gassing can occur with any type of foam, including memory foam, polyurethane foam, or latex foam.

To minimize the potential effects of off-gassing, it is recommended to allow the mattress to air out for a few days before using it. This can help to dissipate any odor or VOCs that may have built up during shipping or storage. Additionally, it is a good idea to choose a mattress that has been certified by independent organizations, such as CertiPUR-US or GreenGuard, which test for VOC emissions and other potential health hazards.

Overall, while some air mattresses may off-gas initially, this is typically a minor issue that can be mitigated by airing out the mattress before use. If you have specific concerns about off-gassing or are sensitive to VOCs, it may be helpful to choose a mattress that is certified by independent organizations or to consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.

  2. Comfort layers: Sleep Number 360 beds usually have multiple comfort layers above the air chambers. These can include memory foam, polyurethane foam, and other materials designed to provide pressure relief, support, and contouring. The exact composition of these layers may vary depending on the specific model and series.

  3. Responsive Air technology: Sleep Number 360 beds come with Responsive Air technology, which continuously monitors sleep and makes automatic adjustments to the firmness of the mattress to maintain optimal comfort and support throughout the night.

the Sleep Number 360 mattresses come with a 15-year limited warranty. Here are some general pros and cons of the Sleep Number warranty:

Pros:

  1. Coverage: The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, including issues with the air chambers, foam, and other mattress components.

  2. Long duration: A 15-year limited warranty is relatively long compared to some competitors in the mattress industry, offering customers peace of mind that their investment is protected.

  3. Repair or replacement: Sleep Number will repair or replace defective components or the entire mattress, depending on the nature of the issue.

  4. Reputation: Sleep Number is a well-established company with a reputation for quality products and customer service, which may instill confidence in their warranty.

Cons:

  3. Shipping and transportation costs: Customers may be responsible for shipping and transportation costs associated with warranty claims. These costs can be expensive, particularly if the mattress needs to be shipped long distances.

  4. Non-transferable: The warranty is typically non-transferable, meaning that it is only valid for the original purchaser and cannot be extended to subsequent owners if the mattress is sold or given away.

Sleep Number beds have been plagued by mold issues since the late 1990s. The first known mold complaint was in 1996, and since then, there have been numerous reports of mold growth in Sleep Number beds, both in the air chambers and in the foam layers.

In 2003, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Sleep Number alleging that the company’s beds were defective and prone to mold growth. The lawsuit alleged that Sleep Number knew about the mold problem but failed to warn consumers or take steps to fix it. The lawsuit was settled in 2005, with Sleep Number agreeing to pay $10 million to affected consumers.

In 2005, Sleep Number introduced a new antimicrobial treatment for its beds, which the company claimed would prevent mold growth. However, consumers continued to report mold problems even after the new treatment was introduced.

In 2013, another class-action lawsuit was filed against Sleep Number alleging that the company’s beds were still defective and prone to mold growth. The lawsuit is still ongoing.

Sleep Number has denied that its beds are defective and has maintained that the mold problem is caused by factors outside of the company’s control, such as high humidity levels and poor ventilation. However, many consumers believe that the company has not done enough to address the mold problem.

In recent years, there have been fewer reports of mold growth in Sleep Number beds. However, some consumers continue to experience this problem. If you have a Sleep Number bed and you are concerned about mold growth, there are a few things you can do to reduce the risk:

  • Keep your bedroom well-ventilated.
  • Avoid using humidifiers in your bedroom.
  • Regularly inspect your bed for signs of mold growth.

The Story of Bobs Discount Furniture

Bob’s Discount Furniture is a chain of furniture stores that was founded in 1991 by Bob Kaufman in Newington, Connecticut. The company’s mission was to provide quality furniture at affordable prices, and it quickly became a popular choice for budget-conscious shoppers. Over the years, Bob’s Discount Furniture has grown to become one of the largest furniture retailers in the United States, with more than 140 stores across 20 states.

Bob Kaufman began his career in furniture in the early 1970s, working for his father’s furniture store in New York City. After gaining experience in the industry, he decided to strike out on his own and opened Bob’s Discount Furniture in 1991. Kaufman was known for his colorful personality and creative marketing strategies, which helped to make his stores stand out from the competition.

In the early years of the business, Bob’s Discount Furniture focused on selling closeout and overstocked furniture from other retailers. However, as the business grew, Kaufman began to develop relationships with furniture manufacturers and started producing his own furniture lines. This allowed the company to offer a wider variety of styles and designs at even lower prices.

In addition to offering affordable furniture, Bob’s Discount Furniture has also become known for its commitment to customer service. The company offers a variety of services, such as free design consultations and delivery and assembly of furniture. It also has a strong online presence, with an e-commerce website and social media channels that allow customers to interact with the brand and stay up-to-date on the latest deals and promotions.

In 2013, Bob’s Discount Furniture was sold to Bain Capital, a private equity firm. However, Bob Kaufman remained involved in the business as a spokesperson and continued to promote the brand’s message of quality furniture at affordable prices.

Today, Bob’s Discount Furniture continues to grow and expand across the United States. The company has become a trusted name in the furniture industry and is known for its commitment to quality, affordability, and customer service.

Are Bob-O-Pedic Mattresses Any Good?

Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are generally considered to be a good value, as they offer a combination of quality materials, comfort, and affordability. Compared to other mattress brands, Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are priced lower while still offering similar features and benefits.

One of the key factors that makes Bob-O-Pedic mattresses a good value is their use of high-quality materials. For example, many Bob-O-Pedic mattresses use memory foam and gel-infused foam, which are known for their ability to conform to the body and relieve pressure points. Additionally, some Bob-O-Pedic mattresses also include innerspring coils, which provide additional support and durability.

In terms of comfort, Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are generally well-regarded by customers. Many people report that they find the mattresses to be comfortable and supportive, with good pressure relief and motion isolation.

Finally, the affordability of Bob-O-Pedic mattresses makes them a good value for many consumers. While prices can vary depending on the model and size, Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are generally priced lower than many other brands while still offering similar features and benefits. Additionally, Bob’s Discount Furniture often runs sales and promotions, which can make their mattresses even more affordable.

Overall, Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are a good value for anyone looking for a comfortable, supportive mattress at an affordable price. With a range of models and sizes to choose from, there is a Bob-O-Pedic mattress to suit the needs of most sleepers.

Bob O Pedic and Motion Isolation

  • Motion Isolation: Bob-O-Pedic offers innerspring and memory foam mattresses. Innerspring mattresses generally isolate motion less than memory foam. So, if motion isolation is a big concern, a Bob-O-Pedic memory foam mattress might be a better choice.

  • Ease of Movement: Innerspring mattresses tend to offer easier movement due to their bouncier feel. Memory foam can conform to your body more, which could create a slight sinking sensation and make it harder to change positions.

  • Sleeping Positions:

    • Side Sleepers: Softer mattresses, like some memory foam models, can provide pressure relief for hips and shoulders.
    • Back Sleepers: A medium firmness mattress could offer good spinal alignment.
    • Stomach Sleepers: Firmer mattresses might be better to prevent excessive sinking and keep the spine aligned.

Here’s what you can do to find more information about Bob-O-Pedic mattresses:

  • Check their website: Look for details about the materials used in their mattresses and any reviews they might have.
  • Search for online reviews: Independent reviewers can offer valuable insights into motion isolation, ease of movement, and suitability for different sleeping positions.
  • Consider a trial period: If Bob-O-Pedic offers a trial period, you can test the mattress at home and see if it meets your needs.

By combining this information with your own preferences, you can make a more informed decision about whether a Bob-O-Pedic mattress is right for you.

Many Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are sold as “mattress in a box” options. This means they’re compressed and rolled into a box for easier transport and delivery. This is convenient for maneuvering through tight spaces or doorways and eliminates the need for special delivery services.

Bob-O-Pedic has a section on their website specifically dedicated to “Mattress in a Box” where they showcase these compressed models. Not all their models may be available in a box format, so it’s always best to check the product description on their website or contact their customer service for confirmation.

Bob-O-Pedic mattresses likely fall somewhere in the middle ground compared to other mattress brands in terms of initial odor, heat retention, and suitability for sleeping preferences. Here’s a breakdown:

Initial Odor:

  • Memory Foam Potential: Some Bob-O-Pedic models contain memory foam, which can sometimes have a slight off-gassing odor when first unpacked. This odor usually dissipates fairly quickly within a day or two.
  • Ventilation Factors: The mattress construction and materials can also influence odor. Bob-O-Pedic doesn’t explicitly advertise exceptional ventilation features, so some models might trap odors more than others.

Heat Retention:

  • Memory Foam Concerns: Memory foam mattresses tend to trap more heat than innerspring models. Bob-O-Pedic offers both memory foam and innerspring mattresses, so heat retention will vary depending on the chosen model.

Suitability for Sleeping Positions:

  • Innerspring and Memory Foam Options: As mentioned earlier, Bob-O-Pedic offers innerspring and memory foam mattresses. Innerspring models typically provide better airflow and might be suitable for hot sleepers or those who prefer a bouncier feel. Memory foam can conform to the body and offer pressure relief, potentially a good fit for side sleepers.

Here are some tips for choosing a Bob-O-Pedic mattress that suits your preferences:

  • Check the materials: Look for details about the mattress construction on their website. Innerspring models will likely have better airflow than memory foam options.
  • Consider customer reviews: Reviews might mention initial odor or sleeping hot.
  • Sleeping style: If you sleep hot or prefer a bouncy feel, an innerspring mattress might be better. If you prioritize pressure relief for your hips and shoulders, a memory foam model could be a good choice.

Remember: Bob-O-Pedic offers a trial period, so you can test the mattress at home and see if it meets your needs before committing.

Bob’s Discount Furniture offers a 90-night sleep trial for their Bob-O-Pedic mattresses. If you are not satisfied with your mattress within the first 90 nights, you can return it for a full refund or exchange it for a different model. Bob’s Discount Furniture also offers a warranty on their Bob-O-Pedic mattresses. The warranty period varies depending on the model of the mattress, but most come with a 10-year warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and issues with the materials or workmanship of the mattress. If a defect is found during the warranty period, Bob’s Discount Furniture will repair or replace the mattress at no cost to the customer.

It’s worth noting that warranty coverage can vary between different retailers, so it’s important to read the specific warranty details and terms before making a purchase. It’s also important to properly care for your Bob-O-Pedic mattress by following the manufacturer’s care instructions, as failure to do so can void the warranty.

Bob-O-Pedic vs. Tempurpedic

Bob-O-Pedic and Tempur-Pedic are two popular brands of mattresses, each with their own unique features and benefits. While both brands offer memory foam mattresses, there are some key differences to consider when choosing between the two.

Price: One of the biggest differences between Bob-O-Pedic and Tempur-Pedic mattresses is the price. Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are generally priced lower than Tempur-Pedic mattresses, making them a more affordable option for many consumers.

Materials: Both Bob-O-Pedic and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made with high-quality materials, but they use different types of foam. Bob-O-Pedic mattresses typically use traditional memory foam or gel-infused memory foam, while Tempur-Pedic mattresses use their proprietary Tempur material. Tempur material is known for its ability to conform to the body and relieve pressure points.

Firmness: Both Bob-O-Pedic and Tempur-Pedic mattresses come in a range of firmness levels, but they tend to have different feels. Bob-O-Pedic mattresses are often described as having a softer, more plush feel, while Tempur-Pedic mattresses are often described as having a firmer feel that provides more support.

Warranty: Bob-O-Pedic mattresses typically come with a 10-year warranty, while Tempur-Pedic mattresses come with a 10- or 25-year warranty, depending on the model. Both warranties cover manufacturing defects and issues with the materials or workmanship of the mattress.

Overall, both Bob-O-Pedic and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are good options for anyone looking for a comfortable, supportive memory foam mattress. The choice between the two largely comes down to personal preference and budget, with Bob-O-Pedic being a more affordable option and Tempur-Pedic offering their proprietary Tempur material for a more unique feel.

Off-Gassing

4.4/5

Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a mattress or other household product. These VOCs can include chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene, and toluene, which can potentially have negative health effects if inhaled in large quantities. Stearns & Foster mattresses, like many other mattresses, may emit some level of off-gassing when they are first unpackaged due to the materials and adhesives used in their construction.

However, Stearns & Foster has taken steps to minimize off-gassing in their mattresses. For example, they use CertiPUR-US certified foam, which means that it is free from certain harmful chemicals and has low VOC emissions. Additionally, Stearns & Foster uses a natural cotton cover that is designed to be breathable and reduce the amount of off-gassing.

It is worth noting that the level of off-gassing can vary depending on the specific model and materials used. In general, any off-gassing from a Stearns & Foster mattress should dissipate within a few days to a few weeks after it is unpackaged. To minimize exposure to VOCs, it is recommended to keep the room well-ventilated and to allow the mattress to air out before using it.

Stomach sleepers typically need a mattress that is on the firmer side to prevent the body from sinking in too deeply and causing the spine to become misaligned. Stearns & Foster offers several models that are well-suited for stomach sleepers. Here are some of the best Stearns & Foster mattresses for stomach sleepers:

  1. Estate Hurston: The Estate Hurston is a hybrid mattress that features pocketed coils and a layer of memory foam. It has a medium-firm feel that can provide good support for stomach sleepers while still offering some pressure relief.

  2. Lux Estate Cassatt: The Lux Estate Cassatt features a sturdy coil system that provides good support for the stomach and can help keep the spine in alignment. It also has a medium-firm feel that can prevent the body from sinking in too deeply.

  3. Reserve Hepburn: The Reserve Hepburn is a luxurious Stearns & Foster model that features a combination of memory foam and latex for good support and pressure relief. It has a medium-firm feel that can provide good support for stomach sleepers.

How Much Does the Stearns and Foster Cost?

The cost of Stearns & Foster mattresses can vary depending on the model, size, and retailer. Generally, Stearns & Foster mattresses are considered to be in the high-end price range, with prices typically ranging from around $1,000 to $5,000 or more for a queen-size mattress.

The entry-level Estate Collection mattresses are typically the most affordable, with prices starting at around $1,000 for a queen size. The Lux Estate Collection and Reserve Collection models are typically more expensive, with prices starting at around $2,000 and $3,000 for a queen size, respectively.

Construction of the Mattress

Stearns & Foster mattresses are typically constructed using a combination of materials, including innerspring coils, foam, and various types of fibers. The specific construction can vary depending on the model and collection. Here is a general overview of the materials and construction used in Stearns & Foster mattresses:

  1. Innerspring coils: Stearns & Foster mattresses typically feature a base layer of innerspring coils that provide support and durability. The coils are usually individually wrapped or pocketed, which can help reduce motion transfer and provide better contouring to the body.

  2. Foam layers: Most Stearns & Foster mattresses also feature layers of foam, including memory foam and polyfoam. These layers can provide contouring and pressure relief, and can also help absorb motion to reduce disturbance from a sleeping partner.

  3. Fiber layers: Stearns & Foster mattresses often feature fiber layers, such as cotton or wool, which can help regulate temperature and provide additional comfort.

  4. Quilting: Stearns & Foster mattresses typically feature a quilted cover made of various materials, including silk, wool, or cashmere. This cover can add a plush feel and provide additional comfort.

It’s important to note that the specific materials and construction can vary depending on the collection and model of the Stearns & Foster mattress. Additionally, the thickness and firmness of the layers can also vary, which can impact the feel and support of the mattress.

Stearns & Foster Mattress Price, Trial and Warranty

Stearns & Foster mattresses are available for purchase at a variety of retailers, including brick-and-mortar stores and online retailers. Here are some popular options for purchasing a Stearns & Foster mattress:

  1. Mattress stores: Many mattress stores carry Stearns & Foster mattresses, including popular retailers such as Mattress Firm, Macy’s, and Sears. Visiting a brick-and-mortar store can allow you to try out different models and get a sense of which one is the most comfortable for you.

  2. Online retailers: Online retailers such as Amazon, Wayfair, and Overstock also sell Stearns & Foster mattresses. Purchasing a mattress online can be more convenient, as you can shop from home and have the mattress delivered directly to your door. However, you won’t have the opportunity to try out the mattress beforehand.

  3. Stearns & Foster website: You can also purchase a Stearns & Foster mattress directly from the brand’s website. This can be a good option if you’re looking for a specific model or size that may not be available at other retailers.

When purchasing a Stearns & Foster mattress, it’s important to make sure you’re buying from a reputable retailer to ensure you’re getting an authentic product. Additionally, make sure to check the retailer’s return policy, warranty, and shipping options before making a purchase.

The shipping times for Stearns & Foster mattresses can vary depending on the retailer and the specific model you’re purchasing. Some retailers may offer free or expedited shipping, while others may require an additional fee for delivery.

If you purchase a Stearns & Foster mattress from a brick-and-mortar store, you may be able to take it home with you the same day. However, if you order online or from a store that doesn’t have the mattress in stock, it may take several days or weeks for the mattress to be delivered to you.

When ordering a Stearns & Foster mattress online, the shipping time can also depend on your location. If you live in a remote area or outside of the United States, it may take longer for the mattress to be delivered.

It’s important to check the shipping times and delivery options before making a purchase to ensure that the mattress will arrive in a timeframe that works for you. Additionally, some retailers may offer white glove delivery, which includes setup and removal of your old mattress for an additional fee.

The trial period for Stearns & Foster mattresses can vary depending on the retailer or store you purchase from. Typically, retailers offer a trial period of anywhere from 30 to 120 nights, during which you can try out the mattress and decide whether it’s the right fit for you.

During the trial period, you can sleep on the mattress, test its comfort level, and evaluate how well it supports your body. If you’re not satisfied with the mattress during the trial period, you can typically return it for a full refund or exchange it for a different model.

However, it’s important to carefully read the retailer’s return policy before making a purchase, as some retailers may have specific conditions or requirements for returns, such as keeping the mattress for a minimum period of time or returning it in its original packaging. Additionally, some retailers may charge a restocking fee for returns.

Overall, it’s important to choose a retailer that offers a generous trial period with flexible return policies to ensure that you’re able to find the right Stearns & Foster mattress for your needs.

Stearns & Foster mattresses come with a warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. The length of the warranty can vary depending on the model and the retailer, but typically ranges from 10 to 25 years.

During the warranty period, if you experience a defect in the mattress, such as sagging or splitting of the mattress materials, you may be eligible for a repair or replacement. However, it’s important to carefully read the terms and conditions of the warranty, as some warranties may have specific requirements or exclusions.

For example, some warranties may only cover defects that are a certain depth or size, or may require that you use a specific type of bed frame or foundation with the mattress. Additionally, some warranties may require that you provide proof of purchase or may exclude damage caused by misuse or improper care of the mattress.

If you experience a defect in your Stearns & Foster mattress, it’s important to contact the retailer or manufacturer as soon as possible to initiate a warranty claim. They will likely require documentation of the defect, such as photographs or measurements, and may require that you ship the mattress back to them for inspection.

Overall, while the warranty can provide peace of mind when purchasing a Stearns & Foster mattress, it’s important to understand the specific terms and conditions of the warranty to ensure that you’re fully protected in the event of a defect.

Final Thoughts On the Stearns & Foster Mattress

Stearns & Foster is a high-end mattress brand that is typically sold through brick-and-mortar retailers, while many online mattress brands operate exclusively online. There are several key differences between Stearns & Foster and online mattress brands:

  1. Price: Stearns & Foster mattresses tend to be more expensive than most online mattress brands. This is partly due to the high-end materials and construction used in Stearns & Foster mattresses, but also due to the fact that they are typically sold through retailers that add their own markups to the price.

  2. Availability: Stearns & Foster mattresses are typically sold through a network of authorized retailers, which means that they may not be as widely available as online mattress brands. Online mattress brands, on the other hand, are available to anyone with an internet connection and a shipping address.

  3. Customization: Many online mattress brands offer customization options, such as the ability to choose different firmness levels or materials. Stearns & Foster mattresses are typically sold as-is, with limited options for customization.

  4. Trial period: Most online mattress brands offer a trial period during which customers can try out the mattress and return it for a full refund if they are not satisfied. Stearns & Foster mattresses typically do not come with a trial period, although some retailers may offer their own return policies.

  5. Customer reviews: Online mattress brands often have a large number of customer reviews available online, which can help prospective customers make an informed decision. Stearns & Foster mattresses, being sold mostly through brick-and-mortar stores, may have fewer customer reviews available online.

Overall, Stearns & Foster and online mattress brands each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Stearns & Foster offers high-end materials and construction, while online mattress brands offer convenience and customization options. The best choice depends on individual preferences and needs.

Tulo Liv Mattress Review

tulo liv mattress

The Tulo mattress is a budget-friendly mattress in a box that is considerably less expensive than the original tulo. The tulo liv only comes in 1 firmness but I found it to be very accommodating to all types of sleepers including side sleepers. It measures 9 inches deep but is still very supportive. You can buy a queen size tulo live for $490 delivered to your door! This mattress comes with a 120-day trial and 10-year warranty.

Overview of the Tulo Liv

Mattress Firm, the Nations largest mattress retailer, made its foray into the mattress in a box space last year with the launch of the tulo mattress. Recently, the launched a less expensive version called the tulo liv. This mattress an all foam mattress that is easy on your wallet and your back.

You can try out a tulo at your local Mattress Firm which is a huge plus. This is one of the few mattresses you can try out in person. If you decide to buy it delivery is lightning fast and you may even qualify for “Red Carpet Delivery” which means they will set up your new mattress and haul away your old one.  I live in the Twin Cities which is eligible for this service as I imagine most major metro areas are.

It will arrive in a box like the one below.

tulo liv boxHere are the details on delivery as listed on the tulo site:

After you choose a date and time slot to receive your new tulo mattress, a team of awesome, professionally trained personnel will deliver the bed right to your home.

All you have to do is open the door (though saying “hello” is encouraged). We’ll roll out our red carpet, put on a pair of clean blue booties, and make sure we keep your home just as it was. Then we’ll set up your tulo and haul away your old mattress for free. And that’s that (though saying “that was awesome” is encouraged).

In rare cases, our inventory may be in such high demand in your area that Red Carpet Delivery is unavailable for several days. If your order isn’t eligible, your tulo mattress will be delivered to your door in 3-5 days via FedEx. You can follow your tulo’s journey with the provided FedEx tracking number.

Here’s a quick video overview of the mattress which shows you what to expect.

How Much Does the Tulo Liv Cost?

Below are the current prices of the mattress as listed on their website.

Construction of the Tulp Mattress

construction of tulo liv mattressHere are the construction details as listed on their website:

1.5” top layer is infused with LumaGel™, helping provide temperature regulation and pressure point relief for a comfortable night’s sleep.

2.5” support layer provides increased support and durability to alleviate tossing and turning.

5” base layer provides a solid foundation to support the top layers and lengthen the lifespan of the mattress.

All tulo mattresses are CertiPUR® certified, so they meet the highest standards for emissions, content, performance and durability.

Your tulo mattress comes with a 10 year non-prorated warranty and a 120 night comfort guarantee.

According to the label tag, the foam is made in the USA and the cover is made in China.

This mattress will work with an adjustable base.

My Tulo Liv Findings

Here’s how much sink you can expect with the Tulo. The top layer of foam is very soft and responsive, it recovers quickly and is fairly breathable.

tulo liv sink

There’s really no motion transfer with this mattress either. It’s all foam so no pesky springs to bother your partner if you change positions or get out of bed at night. Here’s a video to illustrate the point.

Here’s a look inside the mattress. It comes with a zippable cover but there should really never be a need to unzip the cover. Note the the middle layer has an egg crate shape to its foam. This helps with breathability and softens it up a little too.

My Tulo Recommendation

Overall this is a very impressive mattress for the price. What struck me was how versatile this mattress is. You can sleep in any position on this mattress and be comfortable. While the mattress is only 9 inches thick it will accommodate people of varying sizes although I think if you are above 250 lbs. you may want to go with one of the original tulo mattresses for better support.

In comparison to the other budget mattresses that I have reviewed this is the best mix of breathability and softness. You can go softer like the Zinus Green Tea 12 inch but you will lose breathability. The Lucid is another option but I found that the Lucid is much firmer than the tulo liv.

A Short History of Simmons

Simmons Bedding Company, commonly known as Simmons, is an American mattress manufacturer founded in 1870 by Zalmon G. Simmons in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Originally, the company produced wooden insulators for telegraph lines, but Simmons soon discovered a new opportunity in the bedding industry.

In 1925, Simmons introduced the first mass-produced mattress with individually wrapped coil springs, which provided more support and reduced motion transfer between sleepers. This innovation became the foundation of the company’s success and was patented as the Beautyrest mattress.

Over the years, Simmons continued to innovate, introducing new technologies such as the Pillow Top mattress in 1940 and the patented no-flip design in 2000, which eliminated the need to flip the mattress regularly to maintain its shape.

In 2003, Simmons merged with rival bedding company Serta to form Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC, now known as Serta Simmons Holdings, LLC. Today, the company is one of the largest mattress manufacturers in the world, producing a wide range of mattresses under the Simmons, Beautyrest, and other brand names, and selling its products in over 100 countries.

Simmons is one of the oldest and most innovative mattress companies in the United States. In 1925 the developed the pocketed coil system which became part of the new BeautyRest line which is now synonymous with quality. Simmons has been innovating ever since. They brought us the queen and king size mattress to create more room in the bed for couples and ultimately a better sleep. The BeautyRest line has evolved over the years and continues to provide the best in class technology along with over a century of mattress know-how. In this review, we take a look at the new BeautyRest Black Original and how it stacks up to the competition both in stores and online.

The Beautyrest mattress is one of the most well-known products from Simmons Bedding Company, and its history is closely tied to the development of modern mattress technology.

In 1925, Simmons introduced the Beautyrest mattress, which was the first mass-produced mattress to feature individually wrapped coil springs. This innovation allowed each spring to move independently, providing better support and reducing motion transfer between sleepers. The Beautyrest quickly gained popularity, and Simmons became known for its high-quality, luxurious mattresses.

In the decades that followed, Simmons continued to improve the Beautyrest, introducing new technologies such as the first pillow-top mattress in 1940 and the no-flip mattress in 2000. The no-flip design eliminated the need to flip the mattress regularly to maintain its shape, making it easier to use and maintain.

In recent years, Simmons has continued to innovate with the Beautyrest line, introducing new materials and technologies to enhance the mattress’s comfort, support, and durability. Today, the Beautyrest line includes a wide range of mattresses, from the entry-level Beautyrest Classic to the premium Beautyrest Black.

This mattress comes delivered via white glove delivery. The mattress is not roll packed so it is delivered to the room of your choice and set up on your bed ready to go. The advantage of this is there is less off-gassing and obviously you can sleep on it right away. You also don’t need to strain your back getting it upstairs and around corners. White glove delivery is included in the cost of the mattress.

Simmons is taking a page from some of the online brands by offering a 100-night trial. That means you get a 100 nights to sleep on it in your house to decide if it’s really right for you. My BeautyRest Black Original Findings

Overall I found this mattress to be on the firmer end of the spectrum. Although BeautyRest lists this as a medium I found it to be more of a medium-firm.

beautyrest squish

Although it is somewhat firm, it still contours well for side sleeping and if you like to sleep more on top of the mattress, as a side sleeper, this would be a good choice.

side sleeping

Another advantage of this mattress is that you can sleep right up to the edget without feeling like you will roll-off. I think this in part has to do with the foam encased border around the mattress. This is a rigid foam that provides great edge support for sleeping and putting on your shoes!

beautyrest edge

What stood out most for me was that this mattress can’t easily be classified as just a spring or foam or even a hybrid mattress. The T3 Coil System seems very durable and firm and provides an excellent base for the foam layers above. What you get is a mattress that initially feels firm but still provides good pressure relief. This means you get the support that foam alone just can’t provide. Simmons invented the pocket coil and I think they saved the best for the Beautyrest line.

I recommend this mattress mostly for stomach, back and occasional side sleepers. Because it is firmer, you won’t sink into the mattress as much and won’t experience much heat retention either.

My BeautyRest Black Original Recommendation

A BeautyRest Black is the premier offering from Simmons and you get all of their best technology. I expect this mattress to have a longer lifespan than many of the online offerings on the market and for that reason, I think the cost is justified. The firmer coil system is something I haven’t experienced in most of the online brands either so you are getting superior support. Sleepers looking for a firmer mattress, that doesn’t sleep hot and will support heavier people should take a look at this mattress.

Simmons vs. Sealy is One Better Than the Other?

When comparing the Beautyrest and Posturepedic mattress lines, there are a few key factors to consider, including construction, comfort and support, price, and brand reputation.

Construction: The Beautyrest Black typically features individually wrapped pocketed coil technology and a variety of comfort layers, such as memory foam, gel foam, and natural latex foam. The Sealy Posturepedic mattresses typically feature a combination of innerspring coils and foam layers, with varying levels of support and firmness depending on the model.

The Beautyrest Black’s individually wrapped pocketed coil technology provides exceptional support and helps to reduce motion transfer between sleep partners. The variety of comfort layers allows for customized comfort and support. The Posturepedic’s innerspring coil technology provides solid support, but the foam layers can vary in quality depending on the model.

Comfort and Support: The Beautyrest Black is known for its exceptional comfort and support, thanks to the advanced pocketed coil technology and high-quality comfort layers. The Sealy Posturepedic also offers good support, but the level of comfort can vary depending on the model.

The Beautyrest Black’s comfort layers are designed to provide a range of firmness and cushioning options, from plush to ultra-firm. The Posturepedic models also offer a range of firmness levels, but some models can be less comfortable than others, depending on the quality of the foam layers.

Price: The Beautyrest Black is a premium mattress line and typically has a higher price point than the Sealy Posturepedic, which offers a range of models at varying price points.

The Beautyrest Black’s premium construction and high-quality materials come at a cost, with prices ranging from around $1,799 for a Twin size to $7,799 for a King size. The Sealy Posturepedic models range in price from around $399 for a Twin size to $1,699 for a King size, making them a more affordable option for some consumers.

Brand Reputation: Both Beautyrest and Sealy are well-known and respected mattress brands with a long history of producing high-quality mattresses. However, some consumers may have a preference for one brand over the other based on personal experience or brand reputation.

Beautyrest has been in business for over 150 years and is known for its innovative technologies and high-end products. Sealy, on the other hand, has been in business for over 130 years and is known for its reliable, well-made mattresses. Both brands have a loyal following and a reputation for producing high-quality mattresses.

Overall, the choice between Beautyrest and Sealy Posturepedic will depend on individual preferences for comfort, support, and price. It’s a good idea to test out both mattress lines in person, if possible, to get a sense of which one feels best for your specific needs and preferences.
