Couchbed Review 2026: Transform Your Space & Sleep Comfortably

Couchbed

The Couchbed is a mattress and a couch all in one. And unlike a futon, there are no metal or wooden parts. You simply flip one side and it instantly becomes a mattress or couch. I was given a free Couchbed for review. This is an extremely versatile piece of furniture for people living in small spaces where having a piece of furniture that serves two purposes comes in handy. A right now it comes in either a twin or queen size mattress. A queen size retails for $499.

Overview of the Couchbed

Here’s a quick video overview of the Couch Bed including just how easy it is to transition. I have it sitting on a platform base so you can see it better but of course, this was designed to go right on the floor.

You can order your Couchbed direct from their website. Shipping is quick since they fulfill orders our of Arizona. You can expect it to arrive to your door about 5 business days after placing your order. Right now they have five colors to choose from. Blue, Limestone, Charcoal, Red and Black. For this review, I chose the Charcoal color.

couchbed colors

It will arrive in a box like the one below. It is around 70 lbs so a bit heavy but certainly lighter than a typical couch and easier to transport.

couchbed box

There is really no setup involved with this. All you do is take it out of the box and cut open the plastic and soon it will come to life as a queen size mattress.

It comes with a letter opener which is all you need to setup the mattress.

Construction of the CouchBed

Considering that this serves two purposes, it has all the same premium foam that you would find in a traditional memory foam mattress.

  • 10″ Tall
  • Made with 100% Certipur Certified ultra-dense memory foam.
  • Includes phase change material to cool the surface.
  • 10 Year Warranty

How Much Does the CouchBed Cost?

As of this writing, you can choose between a twin size or queen size.

A twin size is: $349.99

A queen size is: $499.99

The Couchbed comes with a 30-day trial where you can return the mattress for a refund within 30 days but you are responsible for paying return shipping.

My CouchBed Findings

As a mattress, this is certainly on the firmer end of the spectrum but that’s to be expected since it also needs to function as a couch. As a couch, you get great support and could even nap on the queen size couch if you wanted to.

There is a zipper to unzip the fabric although it is recommended that you spot clean the cover instead of wash it.

unzipping couch bed

Here’s a look at the layers inside. As you can see there are two distinct layers the support layer and the top layer which contours and has the phase change cooling material.

couchbed layers

I made the clip below to show how each layer reacts. The top layer is slower to react because it provides more contouring.

The picture below shows my 14 lb. bowling ball on the bed/couch without the cover. Even with the contouring layer, you aren’t going to sink all that much.

couchbed sink

I should point out that I didn’t notice the transition between the two pieces when laying on it as a mattress. You won’t even see it when you put sheets on it. This will fit traditional sheets just fine since it is the exact same dimensions as a regular queen size mattress.

My CouchBed Recommendation

If space is tight or you just want to get more use out of a spare room on your house the CouchBed is a great choice. It is super easy to fold and transition to a couch, even more so than a futon and best of all there are no parts that will break. Anyone who has slept on a cheap futon will usually find the floor a better alternative. As a mattress, you won’t get any metal rods digging into your back at night either. And as a couch, it is sleek and comfy for video games or a Netflix marathon. Given the very accessible price, you get a comfy couch and a quality mattress all for $500.

Couchbed Alternatives: How Does It Compare?

The Couchbed is a foldable mattress that doubles as a couch — aimed at studio dwellers, RV owners, and frequent hosts. Here is how it stacks up against the obvious alternatives:

  • vs. a futon: Couchbed is firmer (4.5/10 vs futon’s 7/10), folds in 3 sections instead of 2, and has no metal frame — fewer pressure points if you sleep on it nightly.
  • vs. a sofa bed: No springs, no pull-out mechanism, weighs 60% less. Trade-off: it does not look like a “real” sofa from across the room.
  • vs. an air mattress: Always inflated, never punctures, supports up to 600 lbs.

Best for: guest rooms, studios under 500 sq ft, RVs, and anyone who needs a daily-use sofa that converts to a real bed in under 10 seconds.

Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow: Exclusive Review Unveils Best Comfort

Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow

Tempur-Pedic is a well-known brand in the sleep industry, and their pillows, like their mattresses, have garnered a dedicated following. The appeal of Tempur-Pedic pillows can be attributed to several factors:

  1. Proprietary Memory Foam: Tempur-Pedic’s viscoelastic foam, known as TEMPUR material, is renowned for its pressure-relieving properties. This foam contours closely to the head and neck, providing individualized support and reducing pressure points.

  2. Durability: TEMPUR foam is known for its durability. It tends to maintain its shape and supportive qualities for a more extended period compared to some other memory foams on the market.

  3. Variety: Tempur-Pedic offers a range of pillow models, including contouring designs for neck support, softer models for those who prefer a plush feel, and cooling models designed to mitigate heat retention.

  4. Brand Reputation: Tempur-Pedic has built a strong brand reputation over the years. Many consumers trust the brand due to their experience with other Tempur-Pedic products or based on recommendations from friends or family.

  5. Sleep Trials and Warranty: Tempur-Pedic often provides generous sleep trials and warranty periods for their pillows, which gives consumers confidence in their purchase and the longevity of the product.

  6. Reduction of Motion Transfer: The dense memory foam used in Tempur-Pedic pillows efficiently absorbs motion. This can be particularly useful for individuals sharing a bed, as movements from one person are less likely to disturb the other.

  7. Hypoallergenic Properties: The dense structure of the TEMPUR material is less conducive to allergens like dust mites, making it a suitable option for those with allergies.

  8. Promotion of Proper Spinal Alignment: Many users find that Tempur-Pedic pillows offer the right balance of support and contouring to promote neutral spinal alignment, particularly in the neck and upper spine region.

While Tempur-Pedic pillows have many appealing features, they also come with a premium price tag. It’s worth noting that pillows, much like mattresses, are subjective. What one person finds comfortable and supportive, another might not. Hence, it’s always a good idea to test a pillow or take advantage of sleep trials to ensure it’s the right fit for individual preferences and needs.

I recently received a TEMPUR-Neck Pillow from Tempurpedic for review. This pillos is a classic among the Tempurpedic line. I remember when this was first available in the late 1990s. It was revolutionary in that it veered from the traditional pillow shape and specifically addressed dedicated side sleepers. No doubt this pillow takes some getting used to but it has stood the test of time. The pillow currently retails at $99 for a medium size.

Here’s a picture of the pillow in the packaging.

Below is a video of me with the pillow. You’ll also get a sense of how the foam reacts and how it will look out of the packaging.

Here are the specification of the pillow according to the Tempurpedic website:

Findings

Although I am mostly a stomach sleeper, I can appreciate how this works for side and back sleepers by giving proper support for your neck while keeping you in alignment. Belos is a view of the contouring of the pillow.

Here’s a quick video of how the pillow reacts. I really like how this pillow slowly contours. That feeling isn’t for everyone but Tempurpedic is known for it and it offers excellent pressure relief.

The cover is removable and washable which is a nice feature. Here’s a picture of the zipper.

Conclusion

I highly recommend side sleepers who aren’t getting good support to try out at neck pillow. Tempurpedic has been making them for decades and they design has stood the test of time. If you’re wondering what size to get, they have a nice chart on their website that recommends a size based on your height. Often it seems that people don’t have the right loft in their pillow causing their head to get out of alignment.

Tempur-Pedic foam is a type of viscoelastic polyurethane foam, which is a material that is known for its ability to conform to the body and provide pressure relief. Tempur-Pedic foam is made with a proprietary formula that is different from other brands of viscoelastic polyurethane foam.

Some of the key benefits of Tempur-Pedic foam include:

  • Pressure relief: Tempur-Pedic foam is designed to evenly distribute body weight, which can help to relieve pressure points and improve circulation.
  • Support: Tempur-Pedic foam provides support for the spine and neck, which can help to improve alignment and reduce pain.
  • Motion isolation: Tempur-Pedic foam is very good at absorbing motion, which can help to reduce sleep disturbances from partners.
  • Durability: Tempur-Pedic foam is very durable and can last for many years.

However, there are also some potential drawbacks to Tempur-Pedic foam, such as:

  • Price: Tempur-Pedic foam mattresses and pillows are generally more expensive than other brands.
  • Heat retention: Tempur-Pedic foam can retain heat, which can make it uncomfortable for hot sleepers.
  • Off-gassing: Some people report experiencing an off-gassing odor when they first purchase a Tempur-Pedic mattress or pillow. This odor is usually harmless and goes away after a few days or weeks.

Overall, Tempur-Pedic foam is a high-quality material that offers a number of benefits. However, it is important to be aware of the potential drawbacks before making a purchase.

Is Tempur-Pedic foam better than other brand foam?

Whether or not Tempur-Pedic foam is better than other brand foam is a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer the feel and performance of Tempur-Pedic foam, while others prefer other brands of viscoelastic polyurethane foam.

There is no clear consensus on which brand of viscoelastic polyurethane foam is the best. However, Tempur-Pedic is one of the most popular and well-respected brands in the industry.

If you are considering purchasing a mattress or pillow with viscoelastic polyurethane foam, it is important to do your research and compare different brands to find the one that is right for you.

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow: Must-Have for Pain Relief!

Mediflow Pillow Review

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Getting water on your pillow may sound like the last thing you would want but not in this case. For those in need of some serious neck support and neck pain relief, the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow might interest you. Especially considering that waterbase pillows are clinically shown to improve sleep, as well as reduce neck pain overall but don’t worry; there will be more on that later.

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is a polyester pillow with a water base attached on the bottom. Sleep seekers are able to fill the water base to their preferred amount (up to 5 liters of water at a maximum) to reach their desired level of pillow firmness. Mediflow operates within the US and the pillow is also manufactured within the United States. A single pillow retails for $49.99 on Amazon, and a set of 2 retails for $79.99, allowing you to save at least $20. This pillow has a 4 out of 5 star review on Amazon, based on 3,000+ reviews. That being the case, I knew I had to see if the hype was real.

  • Firmness can be customized easily from soft to medium to firm
  • A bit expensive given the materials and construction
  • Free shipping through Amazon Prime
  • Made in the USA
  • Looks like a traditional pillow with a hidden unique twist
  • 30 day satisfaction guarantee, 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects

Overview of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Below is a video unboxing, demo and review of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow. It has a nice starting point to begin with, in terms of firmness. I would say that without any water at all, that the pillow has a medium firm feel.

Construction of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Size : Only available in 1 universal size

Dimensions: 20″ x 28″ Jumbo size fits standard or queen cases

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Findings

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow looks like any old pillow until it’s turned to the back, where the water chamber is. Getting acquainted with the technology is a bit of a funny feeling because the concept is so unique.

mediflow waterbase chamber

Opening the cap on the waterbase was easy, and the blue nozzle that comes included in the packaging was actually designed to help in this regard. So for anyone with long nails, or weak hands, fear not.

Mediflow provides you with a flow chart that is meant to serve as a guide on how much water you should be using. I found that the easiest way to fill the pillow was by reusing a 1 liter bottle from an empty bottle of water. A full liter isn’t sufficient enough. You will need at least 2 liters (which is considered to provide soft firmness) to feel any substantial difference.

mediflow waterbase pillow filling chart

Pouring water into the waterbase was simple and kind of fun but I do suggest to do this slowly. I ended up with a small spill myself from looking away for just a moment. How you hold the nozzle will dictate how slowly or how quickly the pillow takes the water.

Once you’re done pouring your desired amount of water into the water base chamber of the pillow, comes the important step of removing the air pocket. This is pretty important, so as to avoid having both air and water in the pillow- which can cause issues when pressure is being applied to it, like there will be when you’re sleeping on it. When putting the cap back onto the waterbase, it is suggested that you use the blue nozzle to close it and tighten it. They include a diagram with the packaging to show you how to do this most effectively.

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Recommendation

The reason I am most impressed with the pillow is because there was actually a clinical study conducted to research the effectiveness of waterbase pillows. The study was published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and can be found on pubmed.gov, a US National Library of Medicine, sharing findings from the National Institutes of Health. That specific study can be found here.

The conclusion of the study entitled “Cervical pain: a comparison of three pillows” found that:

“The water-based pillow was associated with reduced morning pain intensity, increased pain relief, and improved quality of sleep.”

The other two pillows that it was compared to was the subject’s usual pillow and a roll pillow. Below is a screenshot of the actual study conducted:

The study alone made me feel that trying the MediflowWaterbase Pillow would be a wise experiment for someone with cervical pain or general neck tension and stiffness
.

The common symptoms of cervical degenerative disc disease is having neck pain and stiffness. That being the case, people with this type of particular health issue, need to take precautions on how they sleep, in terms of both mattresses and pillows.

On another note, some online reviews from people who have used the pillow, or are currently using the pillow, mention the possibility of the pillow leaking. This means how you tighten the cap of the waterbase chamber is especially important. Keep in mind to make use of the nozzle that comes with the pillow.

Pillows are recommended to be washed every 3 months so I think if you were to wash this pillow, it would be best to hand-wash it. However, over time that may affect the functionality of the pillow overall. Pillows are recommended to be replaced every 6 months so that’s something to also think about but Mediflow’s one year warranty on manufacturer defects can at least provide some comfort if any issues were to arise within that 1 year window.

Overall, I think the pillow is a really interesting and creative find. Knowing that a clinical study was conducted, even if on a relatively small sample size (41 individuals, but specifically with cervical issues) can shed some light on what this type of waterbase pillow can provide for individuals both with and without health issues.

If you’d like to give the pillow a shot yourself, you can find it here on Amazon.

Pillow Cube Mattress Review

pillow cube mattress review

The Pillow Cube mattress is a hybrid mattress that is designed to be especially comfortable for side sleepers. It has the following main features:

  • Zoned support: The mattress is divided into three zones, each of which provides different levels of support for the head, shoulders, and hips. This helps to keep the spine aligned and reduce pressure points.
  • Premium memory foam: The mattress uses a high-quality memory foam that is both soft and supportive. This helps to cradle the body and prevent it from sinking in too deeply.
  • Breathable cover: The mattress cover is made of a breathable fabric that helps to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.

Other features of the Pillow Cube mattress include:

  • Edge support: The mattress has reinforced edges that prevent sagging and provide support even when you’re sleeping on the edge of the bed.
  • Motion isolation: The mattress is designed to isolate motion, so that you won’t be disturbed by your partner moving around in bed.
  • Hypoallergenic: The mattress is hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites and mold.

Overall, the Pillow Cube mattress is a good choice for side sleepers who are looking for a mattress that is both comfortable and supportive. It is also a good choice for couples who want a mattress that can isolate motion.

If you are a side sleeper and constantly flip from one side to the other during the night, pay attention. Pillow Cube, known for their odd shaped but surprisingly effective side sleeping pillow, now has a mattress designed exclusively for side sleepers, the Pillow Cube Mattress. This mattress takes all the innovative parts of the cube pillow and incorporates them into a mattress that supports your hips but sinks in at your shoulders. Below are my findings.

Ordering Your Cube Pillow Mattress

Chances are you are searching for this mattress because you enjoy the cube pillow. If you aren’t familiar with the Cube PIllow, then I strongly suggest trying one out along with the mattress to see what the heck you have been missing out on.

Pillow cube mattress beneifits

It’s not uncommon to find a zoned coil system these days but the the pillow cube has created a mattress that will give you that extra sink in your shoulder so you aren’t constantly flipping around all night trying to get comfortable again.

Construction of the Pillow Cube Mattress

The Pillow Cube mattress is a hybrid mattress, meaning that it is made with a combination of coils and foam. It has a three-layer construction, as follows:

  • Top layer: The top layer of the mattress is made of a premium memory foam. This layer is soft and conforming, but it is also supportive enough to keep your spine aligned.
  • Middle layer: The middle layer of the mattress is made of a high-density foam. This layer provides additional support and helps to distribute your weight evenly.
  • Bottom layer: The bottom layer of the mattress is made of a coil support system. This layer provides durability and stability, and it also helps to prevent sagging.

The Pillow Cube mattress also has a breathable cover that helps to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.

The mattress is constructed in a way that maximizes support and comfort for side sleepers. The top layer of memory foam cradles the shoulders and hips, while the middle layer of foam and the bottom layer of coils provide support for the rest of the body. This helps to keep the spine aligned and reduce pressure points.

The Pillow Cube mattress is also designed to isolate motion, so that you won’t be disturbed by your partner moving around in bed. This makes it a good choice for couples who sleep together.

Cube Pillow Mattress Construction

Imagine sleeping on a mattress as comfortable as the Cube Pillow. Well, wait no more! Most mattress brands try to appeal to all types of sleepers, Pillow Cube is lazer focused on side sleepers, which is btw, the healthiest sleep position. I really like that the there is a perimeter support around the side so you don’t feel like you will slide off. A cube true to its name.

My Pillow Cube Mattress Recommendation

Need more convincing? My biggest complaint about the hundreds of mattresses I have reviewed over the years is that they don’t adequately address shoulder issues. Despite my best efforts, I still can’t stay a dedicated side sleeper and often roll onto my stomach because my should hurts after about 2-3 hours.

The Pillow Cube Mattress solves this but you need to use both the Pillow Cube and the Mattress to get the full effect.

Ordering the Osaki OS-Pro Maestro LE

Yawnder is now an authorized Osaki dealer. You can order the OS-Pro Maestro LE directly through our site. We offer the best price and free white glove delivery. You will definitely want white glove delivery for this item.

As the picture shows, this is a very large and heavy package. I chose to assemble it myself to test the process. The chair arrives in three boxes. The main chair body is in the largest bottom box.

If you skip white glove delivery, it arrives on a pallet via freight. You must move each box into your house yourself. Even with a dolly, it is a difficult task without help.

Osaki Massage Chair Delivery

I suggest opening the biggest box first. Remove all the packaging to clear your workspace. There is a lot of material to protect the chair during shipping. Keeping the area clean helps you avoid losing small parts.

Osaki Massage Chair Box

The smaller boxes hold the arms, covers, and electronics. You will also find the instruction manual here. Osaki packs the manual in a high-quality box similar to an iPad box.

Osaki Manual

Read the manual before you start. Lay out all the pieces clearly. The setup instructions were missing a few details, but the process is mostly simple. I recommend having two people for assembly. Parts like the leg extension are heavy and hard to attach alone.

osaki manual 2

Here is the main chair body out of the box. At this stage, the arms and legs are not yet attached.

Osaki Chair Out of Box

Attaching the leg rest was the hardest part. It is heavy and must align perfectly with the main unit. Once the legs are on, the rest of the work is easy.

osaki connections

Osaki includes great details. For example, logos light up and project onto the floor when the chair starts.

osaki lights

The hand massage slots have small bumps. These feel excellent during your massage.

My Osaki OS-Pro Maestro LE Recommendation

This is the third massage chair I have used regularly. It is the most advanced and has the most features. I have owned it for 5 months and I am still finding new ways to adjust it.

One downside is the foot massager. It feels small for my size 13 feet. If you are tall or have large feet, look at the Osaki Highpointe. It costs more but has an open foot design that is much better for large feet.

Compared to the X77 from XChair, the Osaki is more intense. It has more programs and a better touchscreen. Both offer heat and zero gravity, but the Osaki feels more powerful.

The quality is excellent. Costco sells a version for $6,899, but it uses an old remote. The Yawnder San Diego store sells the updated LE model with the touchpad. We offer a great price and a 30-day trial. Email sales@sleepsherpa.com for a quote.

Tulo Liv Mattress: Stunning Deal for Comfortable Sleep

tulo liv mattress

The Tulo mattress is a budget-friendly mattress in a box that is considerably less expensive than the original tulo. The tulo liv only comes in 1 firmness but I found it to be very accommodating to all types of sleepers including side sleepers. It measures 9 inches deep but is still very supportive. You can buy a queen size tulo live for $490 delivered to your door! This mattress comes with a 120-day trial and 10-year warranty.

Overview of the Tulo Liv

Mattress Firm, the Nations largest mattress retailer, made its foray into the mattress in a box space last year with the launch of the tulo mattress. Recently, the launched a less expensive version called the tulo liv. This mattress an all foam mattress that is easy on your wallet and your back.

You can try out a tulo at your local Mattress Firm which is a huge plus. This is one of the few mattresses you can try out in person. If you decide to buy it delivery is lightning fast and you may even qualify for “Red Carpet Delivery” which means they will set up your new mattress and haul away your old one.  I live in the Twin Cities which is eligible for this service as I imagine most major metro areas are.

It will arrive in a box like the one below.

tulo liv boxHere are the details on delivery as listed on the tulo site:

After you choose a date and time slot to receive your new tulo mattress, a team of awesome, professionally trained personnel will deliver the bed right to your home.

All you have to do is open the door (though saying “hello” is encouraged). We’ll roll out our red carpet, put on a pair of clean blue booties, and make sure we keep your home just as it was. Then we’ll set up your tulo and haul away your old mattress for free. And that’s that (though saying “that was awesome” is encouraged).

In rare cases, our inventory may be in such high demand in your area that Red Carpet Delivery is unavailable for several days. If your order isn’t eligible, your tulo mattress will be delivered to your door in 3-5 days via FedEx. You can follow your tulo’s journey with the provided FedEx tracking number.

Here’s a quick video overview of the mattress which shows you what to expect.

How Much Does the Tulo Liv Cost?

Below are the current prices of the mattress as listed on their website.

Construction of the Tulp Mattress

construction of tulo liv mattressHere are the construction details as listed on their website:

1.5” top layer is infused with LumaGel™, helping provide temperature regulation and pressure point relief for a comfortable night’s sleep.

2.5” support layer provides increased support and durability to alleviate tossing and turning.

5” base layer provides a solid foundation to support the top layers and lengthen the lifespan of the mattress.

All tulo mattresses are CertiPUR® certified, so they meet the highest standards for emissions, content, performance and durability.

Your tulo mattress comes with a 10 year non-prorated warranty and a 120 night comfort guarantee.

According to the label tag, the foam is made in the USA and the cover is made in China.

This mattress will work with an adjustable base.

My Tulo Liv Findings

Here’s how much sink you can expect with the Tulo. The top layer of foam is very soft and responsive, it recovers quickly and is fairly breathable.

There’s really no motion transfer with this mattress either. It’s all foam so no pesky springs to bother your partner if you change positions or get out of bed at night. Here’s a video to illustrate the point.

Here’s a look inside the mattress. It comes with a zippable cover but there should really never be a need to unzip the cover. Note the the middle layer has an egg crate shape to its foam. This helps with breathability and softens it up a little too.

My Tulo Recommendation

Overall this is a very impressive mattress for the price. What struck me was how versatile this mattress is. You can sleep in any position on this mattress and be comfortable. While the mattress is only 9 inches thick it will accommodate people of varying sizes although I think if you are above 250 lbs. you may want to go with one of the original tulo mattresses for better support.

In comparison to the other budget mattresses that I have reviewed this is the best mix of breathability and softness. You can go softer like the Zinus Green Tea 12 inch but you will lose breathability. The Lucid is another option but I found that the Lucid is much firmer than the tulo liv.

Sealy Recliners Review

Sealy Recliner Review

What is a Lift Recliner?

Sealy is best known for their mattresses, especially the Posturepedic line that elevated the quality and feel of mattresses. They have taken their, Know How” of creating comfortable furniture and introduced a new direct-to-consumer line of recliners that include features like power recline, usb ports and more to give you the ultimate in comfort while you are reading a novel, browsing Tik Tok or on a Netflix binge. I received two recliners for review from Sealy. The Aria Lift Recliner and the Nolan Motion Recliner. To be honest, I thought I would kick the tires on these chairs and then give them to friends and family. 7 months later, I still have them and use them every day. I didn’t expect them to be so comfortable! This is my first of many to come, power lift recliner reviews. Below are my findings.

Benefits of a Lift Recliner

There are several benefits to using a lift recliner, including:

  1. Improved mobility: Lift recliners make it easier for individuals with mobility issues to sit down and stand up from a chair, which can help improve their independence and quality of life.

  2. Reduced risk of falls: Using a lift recliner can also reduce the risk of falls or injuries that can occur when attempting to stand up from a regular chair.

  3. Increased comfort: Lift recliners are designed to be comfortable and supportive, with adjustable positions that allow the user to find the perfect angle for relaxing or watching TV.

  4. Potential pain relief: Some lift recliners come with massage and heat therapy features that can help relieve muscle tension and reduce pain in the back, neck, and shoulders.

  5. Customizable support: Many lift recliners come with adjustable lumbar support and headrests, which can be customized to provide the perfect level of support for the user’s body.

  6. Improved circulation: The ability to adjust the angle of the chair can help improve circulation and reduce swelling in the legs and feet.

Overall, a lift recliner can be a valuable addition to the home for anyone who wants to improve their mobility, comfort, and quality of life.

Ordering the Sealy Power Chairs

You can order these chairs directly from the Sealy website.  Standard shipping is free but if you want it delivered into your house that would be an extra $29. White Glove delivery is $89 which is very reasonable considering most mattress white glove delivery fees are about $250. These chairs came delivered in 2 pieces and I had white gloved delivery service which I highly recommend because not only do they set up the chair, they also remove all the packaging so you can enjoy your new chair right away. These power lift chairs are easy to assemble if you foregoe the white glove delivery.

My Sealy Recliner Findings

The Aria lift recliner is now my favorite piece of furniture in the house. It is incredibly soft and supports you in all the right areas. It’s great for watching TV or taking naps. Although I there’s absolutely no reason for me to use the incline feature, I am guilty of lifting myself out of a TV binge stupor out of sheer laziness. It’s rare that I ever use the seated position anymore. And although I rarely use it as a power lift chair to get out of the chair, it’s nice to know that I have the option of the power lift recliner incline as well.

Sealy recliner with lift

I often work from home and use my laptop as my primary device. While its great to have a USB port in these chairs and other pieces of furniture I own, The Aria actually has an outlet installed inside the storage area. Now I can plug in my laptop without digging around on the floor for the power strip and creating another tripping hazard. I now keep my laptop charger inside the chair arm along with remotes and usb cables for my phone. One drawback is that it is a wired remote. I would have like a button on the side of the chair instead. It’s sort of annoying to have to fish out the remove each time I want to get in and out of the chair. But, for someone with limited mobility, it does make sense to have a wired remove that can be places where it’s most accessible.

Armrest

The Aria does not look as sleek and modern as the Nolan recliner but it is softer and the fabric is cozier. I’m at the age where comfort wins over looks, especially now that so much of what we do is at home.

The Nolan recliner does offer some key advantages over the Aria though. For instance, the Nolan has a head tilt feature that comes in handy when you are reclined and trying to watch TV. It is also made with a fabric that is easier to clean than the Nolan and is darker so will probably go with more of your other furniture. Lift chairs have come a long way over the years and I expect that they will grow in popularity not only as the population ages but as people realize they can have the benefits of lift chairs at an affordable price.

Both chairs have Sealy Support HD foams inside along with the Posturepedic encased coils. The combination of these two materials makes the chairs incredibly comfortable. The Sealy collection is a great choice for heavier people looking for recliner and/or incline chairs. They support up to 350 lbs. and have a 1-year warranty. You can get a longer warranty though through their warranty partner, Extend which I would recommend, especially given how often I use this chair.  The controller on the Nolan takes some practice since you have both the incline/reline as well as head tilt buttons so close together but once you get the hang of it, it’s super convenient and it also has a USB port which is perfect for keeping my phone and other device charged. These features are new to power lift recliners and now should come standard.

Helix Dusk Luxe vs. Midnight Luxe: Must-Have Comparison Guide

Helix Dusk vs Helix Midnight Luxe scaled

At our Yawnder mattress showroom in San Diego, we carry both the Helix Midnight Luxe and Helix Dusk Luxe. They are the most popular models in the Helix lineup of mattresses and while both feel great, they do have some significant differences that will factor into your decision.

Who is the Helix Dusk Luxe Best For?

Individuals or couples who tend to sleep on their backs or stomachs and prefer a medium mattress with extra support and premium upgrades

Who is the Helix Midnight Luxe Best for?

Individuals or couples who tend to sleep on their sides and prefer a medium mattress with extra support and premium upgrades – our most popular Luxe model

What is the Key Difference between the Dusk Luxe and the Midnight Luxe?

These mattresses have basically identical construction. The key differentiator is the comfort layer. The Dusk Luxe has, “Helix Dynamic Foam” while the Midnight Luxe has, “high-density Memory Plus Foam.” Basically, that means that the Midnight Luxe has denser foam at the top which will provide a little more pressure relief but also recovery a bit more slowly. Most people have a hard time telling the two apart. You need to spend some time on the two so that you can appreciate the subtle differences.

Construction of the Helix Dusk Luxe

Helix Dusk Luxe Construction

  • Choose between a breathable TENCEL™ fabric or an upgraded GlacioTex Cooling Cover
  • Helix Dynamic Foam to react and contour to your body
  • Pressure relieving Memory Plus Foam
  • High Grade Polyfoam provides ergonomic support and cushioning
  • 1,000+ individually wrapped steel coils with zoned lumbar support and a reinforced perimeter cradle sleepers and limit motion transfer
  • DuraDense Foam base provides support and durability

Construction of the Helix Midnight Luxe

  • Gel Visco designed to cushion and support your body
  • High-Grade Polyfoam provides ergonomic support
  • 1,000+ individually wrapped steel coils with zoned lumbar support and reinforced perimeter cradle sleepers and limit motion transfer
  • DuraDense Foam base provides support and durability

My Helix Midnight and Dusk Luxe Recommendations

Helix is by far one of the most popular mattresses in our San Diego showroom. Of the two models we have on display, the Midnight Luxe edges out the Dusk Luxe in terms of popularity. While the Dusk is marketing to be a more versatile mattress for all types of sleepers, I would say that the Midnight Luxe is better with pressure relief and so will help you stay asleep a bit longer.

Here’s a view of the Helix Midnight Lux and how much it sinks with my 16 lb. bowling ball.

Helix Midnight Luxe Sinkage

Here’s another pick with the same ball on the Dusk Luxe.

Dusk Luxe Sinkage

My Helix Recommendation

The Helix brand is quickly becoming one of the most popular and highly reviewed online mattress brands and for good reason. If the Helix Midnight or Helix Dusk Luxe just isn’t right for you, chances are one of their other models will be a great fit. If you are a heavy person, check out my Helix Plus review, it’s the best mattress for heavy people.

Apollo Duvet Review: Stunning Temperature Control for Comfort

Ministry of Supply Review

Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet Review

Finding a duvet that maintains a perfect temperature throughout the year can feel like an impossible task, especially for those living in colder climates. Many duvet inserts offer multiple layers for customization, but if you share your bed, your ideal temperature might not align with your partner’s. This is where the Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply steps in. Founded in 2012 by two MIT graduates, Ministry of Supply aims to blend science with comfort in both clothing and textiles. Their Apollo Duvet promises not just comfort but also the ability to customize temperature for each side of the bed—making it a game-changer in the world of bedding.

Unboxing the Apollo Duvet

I was fortunate enough to receive a queen-size Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply for review. It arrived in a surprisingly compact box, accompanied by a reusable storage bag, which is perfect for future use. The thoughtfulness in the packaging design stood out instantly. Shipping was quite efficient, taking about a week from order to delivery. One of the notable features of this duvet insert is its 100-day trial period, allowing you to test its comfort risk-free. If you’re not satisfied, you can return it for store credit instead of a cash refund; while I’d prefer a full refund option, there are plenty of appealing items in their store that might catch your eye.

Unique Construction Features of the Apollo Duvet

What distinguishes the Apollo Duvet from other options on the market is its incorporation of Phase Change Material (PCM)—a technology used in advanced mattresses for temperature regulation. This special material helps the duvet feel cool to the touch, drawing out heat to keep you comfortable while you sleep. Although the duvet eventually reaches a saturation point where it can no longer cool down, this innovative feature should help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Here’s a breakdown of the Apollo Duvet’s construction, based on information from their website:

NASA-derived temperature regulating Phase Change Material
Dual-layer modular insulation system that allows for varied weight preferences
Tonal snaps enable easy alignment
– Made from hypoallergenic materials
– Includes a storage bag (note: duvet cover is not included)
– Duvet weight: 6 lbs 1 oz; extra panels weigh 3 lbs 2 oz each
200 GSM duvet plus two additional 150 GSM panels
Shell fabrics: 55% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 45% Cotton
Fill materials: 70% Recycled Polyester (GRS), 30% Outlast PCM Viscose
– Produced by Staroon Textile Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang, CN)
Dimensions: 90” x 92” (extra panels are 45” x 92”)
– Fits both Queen and Full-sized beds; extra panels can serve as individual Twin-sized duvets

My Experience with the Apollo Duvet

Upon taking the duvet out of its packaging, I discovered it was meticulously rolled, making it challenging to return to the bag later. One pleasant surprise was a diagram illustrating the duvet’s functionality—something I haven’t seen with other products. This duvet is especially well-suited for guests, allowing them to adjust the bedding to their preferred thickness and temperature, no matter their thermostat settings or floor within the house.

Once unrolled, two distinct sides of the duvet were evident, which is quite beneficial for individual temperature preferences. Given the initial setup, I’d recommend starting with both layers attached for optimal warmth. It’s also advisable to use a duvet cover to keep it clean—while machine-washable, washing an insert is often a hassle.

The perimeter of the duvet features snap buttons, while the inner attachments use a different type of button that is less noticeable while sleeping. Although this makes connection a bit more cumbersome, their practical design ensures each side remains securely in place. The detail and quality of construction are evident in these buttons, which have a sleek matte finish.

Minor details, such as the care tag stitched onto all four sides, contribute to the overall aesthetic. I find this thoughtful touch immensely helpful, as it prevents that annoying tag from sticking out.

Final Thoughts on the Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet

In summary, the Apollo Duvet serves as a versatile bedding option, functioning as both a summer and winter duvet. Why invest in two separate duvets when you can enjoy all these benefits in one? The Phase Change Material enhances sleep quality significantly, addressing a common issue faced by many: maintaining an ideal temperature throughout the night. If you’re searching for an innovative solution that combines quality and functionality, the Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply is undoubtedly worth considering. Just wish it were available in king size!

Curfew CBD Weighted Blanket Review

curfew cbd blanket review

CBD is exploding in popularity and we are just beginning to learn about its benefits. It seems every week a new CBD oil company pops up online and so there’s no shortage of choices for oils and balms. But sometimes you want an even more passive approach to CBD. Recently I reviewed the CBD Pillow which is a pillow that has CBD infused into the cover. The CBD Blanket by Curfew is similar in that you don’t need to ingest anything, you simply put the blanket on and start reaping the benefits.

Overview of the Curfew Dream Blanket

Right now the Dream Blanket retails for $295 but you also get the Dream Salve which is 500mg of broad-spectrum CBD that normally retails for $75 on its own. For this review, I received all of these for free plus the Evening Tincture which is also 500mg of broad-spectrum CBD and also retails for $75.

Your blanket and salve will arrive in a box like this.

curfew box

I was really impressed with the packaging and care they put into it. It would make a great gift for someone going through a stressful time.

Curfew Blanket Specifications

Here are the specifications of the blanket as listed on their website.

How Does Curfew Dream Blanket Work?

This blanket works just like any other blanket you just put it over your body and relax! I would say that the blanket is on the thinner side and that was probably intentional because you want to be able to use the blanket even if you aren’t that cold so you can get the CBD benefits. You can always put another layer on top of it.

Here’s a picture of the blanket and products outside of the box.

cbd blanket

The Dream Blanket works by coming into contact with your skin, so it’s best used with a short sleeve shirt to maximize contact. The blanket is infused with micro-encapsulated beads that are released with friction and then go into your skin. The Curfew website explains how it works as follows:

CBD is infused into the Dream Blanket fibers using micro-encapsulation technology. Tiny droplets of CBD are wrapped in a protective coating. This patented technology protects the CBD droplets from evaporation, oxidation and contamination.

The micro-encapsulated CBD is then bonded to yarn, which is then knit into the Dream Blanket. The friction that is created when using the blanket will break the walls of the CBD capsule where it is released onto your skin.

This blankets is supposed to last 20 wash cycles, or an estimated 2 years if you follow the wash instructions which ask you to machine wash on cold and air dry, do not place in the dryer.

My Curfew Dream Blanket Findings and Recommendation

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this blanket did not reek of CBD. I appreciate that there was no overwhelming smell and it’s nice to know that it is washable.

Here’s a video of me with the Dream Blanket

In conclusion, I recommend a CBD blanket for people that are averse to taking tinctures or pills and still want to experience the benefits of CBD with milder effects. If you consistently use CBD and happen to use blankets often, then this will actually end up saving you money in the long run.

Ananda Mattress Review

Ananda Sleep Mattress System

Ananda is a company that offers a complete sleep solution. They offer a memory foam mattress with cooling cover and an adjustable base with all the popular features for an extremely competitive price. A queen size Ananda mattress and adjustable base retails for $1,299. Both the base and mattress come shipped to your door in a box and both come with a 120 night trial with free returns.

Overview of the Ananda Mattress

Here’s a quick video overview of the entire sleep system which again includes the adjustable bed and mattress.

As you can see below the adjustable bed and mattress both come in a box and are shipped straight to your door. No need to schedule a delivery.

I first setup the adjustable bed which is very straightforward. The queen size basically comes folded in half.

wrapped frame

All you need to do is unfold the base and all the parts can be found there.

The first step is to screw in the legs and take out all the other pieces including the remote.

Each leg has 3 individual pieces that can be screwed on top of each other. This allows you to adjust the height of the bed so that it fits in your existing bed frame.

Here’s a closeup of where to screw in the legs.

Once all size legs are screwed in you can then make sure the wiring is connected for power and then flip the bed over to plug it in.

Here’s what it looks like all setup. There is a bar at the foot of the bed to keep the mattress from sliding off.

You get 3 options to operate the Adjustable Base: Backlit Wireless Remote Control (Included), “Ananda Base Wifi” Remote Control App for Phones or Mobile Devices (Alexa, Siri, Google), or Voice-activated commands through the Amazon Alexa App and Device (not included). This means you can ask Alexa to raise or lower your bed without having to use your remote!

After you get the base setup its time to get out the mattress. It comes wrapped in a box.

How Much Does the Ananda Mattress Cost?

Below are the prices of the Ananda Sleep System as of this writing. Remember, you get both the mattress and adjustable bed so this is a really good deal.

[table id=57 /]

Construction of the Ananda Mattress

Below are the construction details of the mattress. It is an all foam mattress that is 12 inches deep.

Ananda Construction

My Ananda Sleep Findings

Starting out with the mattress, it is promoted as a medium firmness which I would say is accurate. Maybe just slightly softer than most all foam mattresses labeled medium firm. Here’s a picture that illustrates how much sinkage you get with my 14 lb. bowling ball.

Ananda Sink

Here’s another look at sinkage with the cover off.

inside sinkageIt has a zippered cover which is machine washable although I always recommend a mattress protector as sometimes these covers can be hard to get back on.

Here’s a look at the inside of the mattress so you can get a better sense of how the layers work and how it will feel.

My Ananda Recommendation

For the money, it’s really hard to beat all that you get with this mattress. If you are already in the market for an adjustable bed, this price alone for the adjustable is a great value. When you add in the mattress it makes it an even harder deal to resist. I think the mattress will appeal to most sleepers and all sleep styles. It is made with quality foam that doesn’t sleep hot and recovers relatively quickly. Since you get a 120 night trial on both the mattress and adjustable it is definitely worth trying. If you aren’t happy with either you can return them but if for instance, the mattress isn’t ideal, it would make a great guest room mattress and you can put your existing mattress on the adjustable.

Tulo Mattress Review

tulo mattress

The tulo Mattress is a bed in a box offering from Mattress Firm. Tulo means “sleep” in the Chichewa language, a widely known language in the country of Malawi. It’s a catchy name that is easy to remember. The tulo comes in 3 different firmness options soft, medium and firm. For this review, I received a medium version. What really sets Tulo apart from the competition isn’t necessarily the construction of the mattress but the fact that you can try out the tulo at one of the thousands of Mattress Firm stores across the country.

Overview and Unboxing the tulo Mattress

Here’s a video overview of the mattress…

A queen size Tulo retails for $650. It comes compressed and roll packed in a box like the one below. As you can see, this box was a little damaged but the mattress wasn’t.

When you open the box you get a nice greeting from tulo and a letter opener. Over the years I have developed a nice collection of these.

Here’s a picture of the mattress right out of the box. Once you cut the plastic it will start taking in air quickly.

Tulo Mattress Unbox

One thing I noticed is that this mattress sprung into shape very quickly. I think that’s because it was manufactured recently. Mattresses that stay compressed in a box longer, take longer to recover but that wasn’t the case with the tulo.

Construction of the tulo Mattress

3rd layer:  1.5” of strut reinforcing technology engineered into high resiliency firm foam to minimize material fatigue and reduce surface compression. Material density is 2.5 lb/cubic foot.

Foundation layer:  high density poly urethane material designed to complement the technologies positioned above this layer. Material density is 1.8 lb/cubic foot.

My tulo Mattress Findings

This mattress skews a little towards the firmer end of the spectrum. I reviewed the medium firm and found it to be a little firm at first. However when you lay across it, you get great support and still get good pressure relief. This mattress is made in the USA and from what I can tell is top of the line foam. None of the corners are smushed together which means they didn’t over glue the pieces. It also was made recently and didn’t stay in a box for too long which also helps it take shape faster.

Here’s a picture of my bowling ball on the mattress to show you how much it sinks.

Here’s another video that illustrates motion transfer on the mattress.

Here’s a peek inside the mattress to show you how each layer reacts.

My tulo Recommendation

If you are new to the world of online mattresses, this is a great introduction. You can just head to your nearest Mattress Firm and try one out to see for yourself the value you can get with online brands. A queen size Tulo currently retails for $700 but now you can get one for $499.

Tempurpedic vs Tempflow: Stunning Mattress Showdown!

Tempflow mattress review

Tempurpedic is arguably the most popular mattress brand in the United States and has the most name recognition. The name Tempurpedic and memory foam are almost synonymous. But lately, there has been an explosion of new online and store brands that aim to compete with Tempurpedic not only on price but also on feel. I have slept on hundreds of mattresses during my time as a mattress reviewer and I can get a good or bad impression of a mattress quickly, no pun intended.

In this review, I take a close look at the Tempflow brand and how it compares to Tempurpedic. I often don’t make many comparisons to Tempurpedic because it does have a unique feel, largely due to the quality. Both Tempurpedic and Tempflow offer different models and firmness levels for your sleep needs but where they seem to differ the most is price. Tempflow is on average at least a thousand dollars less than a Tempurpedic, all with a 120-night sleep trial and industry-leading, 40-year warranty.

Ordering the Tempurpedic vs. Tempflow

Both of these mattresses can be ordered online through their respective websites. They also are available to try in showrooms but Tempurpedic has the largest national footprint for showrooms. They can be demoed at any Mattress Firm location or other major sleep retailers. Tempflow has a showroom in Agoura Hills, CA, and may be available to try in other showrooms soon. Tempflow lists which of their models are comparable to the Tempurpedic mattresses on their website so you can try a Tempurpedic locally and order a comparable Tempflow online and take advantage of their 120-day trial.

How Much Does the Tempflow Cost in Comparison to Tempurpedic Models?

On average you will be paying considerably less for a Tempflow than a Tempurpedic. For example, the Tempflow Cloud is currently selling for $1,319 with a discount while the compatible Tempurpedic Cloud is selling for $1,399 after a discount. You really notice the savings though when you compare the higher-end models. For example, the Tempflow-Glacier Elite sells for $2,999 after discount while the comparable Tempur-Pro Breeze retails for $4,099 after discount.

In terms of the trial period, Tempflow is a 120-day trial while the Tempurpedic is 90 days, so you basically get an extra month to try out the Tempflow.

As for warranty, Tempflow is offering a 40-year warranty while Tempurpedic has a 10-year warranty.

Construction of the Tempflow and Tempurpedic Mattresses

Below are the construction details listed on the Tempflow website.

My Tempurpedic vs Tempflow Findings

I was invited out to the Tempflow store to try out their mattress and they also had a comparable Tempurpedic so it was a perfect opportunity to see how they compare.

What sets Tempflow apart from all the other brands I have tried is that they have a patented cooling system where they create channels in the memory foam for heat to dissipate. This method in my opinion is superior to any phase change cooling technology because I find that the phase change cooling material only has a temporary effect and lasts for about 20 minutes or so before the mattress starts to heat up.

This is illustrated in the picture below.

Comparing the Tempflow to the Tempurpedic

Below is a comparison chart from the Tempflow website along with the owner’s professional opinion.

THE DOCTOR’S TAKEIts very soft and quick reacting surface works rapidly in any environment to provide you with optimal pressure point reduction for the joints, while still supporting the back with its resilient lower layers. This hybrid mattress is perfect for those who want something between a memory foam and inner-spring design. You will still get a soft surface, but the Flex-Comfort layer makes this model more buoyant and therefore, perfect for those who do not like an overly plush mattress. With the most use of the stiffer/firmer HD Biogreen in the surface layers, greater depth of body penetration will occur, while still providing optimal support. This allows this mattress reduce pressure for the shoulders and hips, while suiting heavier individuals, back sleepers, and most back pain sufferers. The soft over thicker and firmer HD Biogreen surface gives a dimension of comfort, with the most optimal support. The stiffer base will work well for heavier individuals, back sleepers, and most back pain sufferers.

My Recommendation for a Tempflow vs. Tempurpedic.

Both the Tempflow and Tempurpedic are very high-quality mattresses. They use dense foam which means that it will contour better and last longer. With Tempurpedic being a household name, and a pioneer in the memory foam mattress category, they will always command a higher price point. Tempurpedic can be hard to beat on feel. Just keep in mind that in my opinion, Tempurpedic does skew a bit firmer than other mattresses on the market so even their, “soft” model may feel more like a medium.

I am a big fan of the Ventilated and Kool-Flow technology in the Tempflow mattresses and over the course of the night, it does a better job of dissipating heat than just about all other memory foam mattresses I have tried.

Given the Tempflow is on average less than comparable Tempurpedic models, and they have a generous 120 night trial period, I would be inclined to give the Tempflow a try if you are looking for a high-quality mattress with an industry-leading warranty and great customer service.

My Emma Mattress Findings

As you can see in the picture below the Emma mattress sinks quite a bit. It is even more pronounced as you add more weight. This makes it an ideal mattress for people that like to sink in the mattress and get maximum pressure relief.

Emma mattress sinkage

The video below illustrates motion transfer. Since it’s an all foam mattress, motion is contained. What I found interesting is that the top layer is very resilient and recovers almost instantly. This gives the mattress just a little bit of bounce.

The cover is made for optimal airflow. It is a zippered cover so is removable as well. There is venting along the side so air can dissipate from the top and sides. The cover also grips the mattress better than other covers I have tried. This gives it a solid feel. It also has handles form making it easier to rotate and transport the mattress.

Here you can see more of the inside of the mattress and where the holes in the base layer are placed to provide better contouring for your shoulders.

The cover has handles stitched into the sides to make rotating and transporting easier.

Where Can I Buy the Emma Mattress?

  1. Emma website: You can purchase the Emma mattress directly from the Emma website. They offer free delivery and returns, as well as a 100-night trial period.Amazon: The Emma mattress is also available for purchase on Amazon in certain regions.
  2. Brick-and-mortar stores: Depending on your location, you may be able to find the Emma mattress in physical stores. In some countries, Emma has partnered with retailers such as John Lewis and Bensons for Beds to sell their products in-store.
  3. Other online retailers: In some regions, the Emma mattress is also available for purchase from other online retailers such as Wayfair or MattressOnline.

Before purchasing the Emma mattress, be sure to check for any ongoing promotions or discount codes on the Emma website or from authorized retailers.

My Emma Mattress Recommendation

Emma offers three different types of mattresses – the Emma Original, the Emma Hybrid, and the Emma Original Foam. Here is a breakdown of which mattress may be best for each sleeping position:

  1. Back sleepers: Back sleepers generally require a mattress that offers both support and comfort. The Emma Original and the Emma Hybrid mattresses are both good options for back sleepers. The Emma Original mattress offers a balanced medium-firm feel that supports the spine, while the Emma Hybrid offers additional support with pocket springs.
  2. Side sleepers: Side sleepers generally require a mattress that offers pressure relief and support for the shoulders and hips. The Emma Original and the Emma Hybrid mattresses can both work well for side sleepers, but the Emma Original Foam mattress may be the best option due to its softer, more contouring foam layers that help relieve pressure points.
  3. Stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers generally require a mattress that offers firm support to prevent the hips from sinking too deeply into the mattress. The Emma Original and Emma Hybrid mattresses can both offer good support for stomach sleepers due to their firmer feel.
  4. Combination sleepers: Combination sleepers who move between sleeping positions may require a mattress that offers both support and flexibility. The Emma Hybrid mattress is a good option for combination sleepers due to its combination of foam and pocket springs that offer support and pressure relief while allowing for ease of movement.

Overall, the best Emma mattress for you will depend on your individual preferences and needs. However, the Emma Original and Emma Hybrid mattresses are both versatile options that can work well for a variety of sleeping positions.

I really enjoyed the feel of this mattress. You get a somewhat soft mattress without all the drawbacks. You get to sink into the Emma but it doesn’t sleep nearly as hot as other soft mattresses. I think that’s in large part to the open cell foam layer at the top and the design of the cover. I recommend this mattress for side and back and occasional stomach sleepers that want a soft mattress where you sink into it just a bit.

I found it very easy to change positions on this mattress and when you do, the mattress recovers quickly so you aren’t left with impressions. This mattress comes with a 100 night trial and a 10 year guarantee. If you aren’t happy with it during the 100 nights, returns are free as well.

Emma Mattress vs. Nectar

The Emma mattress and the Nectar mattress are both popular foam mattresses that are available in several countries. Here is a comparison of each model of Emma mattress to each model of Nectar mattress:

  1. Emma Original vs. Nectar Original: Both mattresses are made with memory foam and offer a medium-firm feel. The Emma Original has a more balanced feel with a top layer of breathable foam, while the Nectar Original has a thicker layer of memory foam and may feel slightly softer. Both mattresses offer good motion isolation and pressure relief, but the Emma Original may be a better option for those who sleep hot due to its breathable top layer.
  2. Emma Hybrid vs. Nectar Lush: Both mattresses combine foam and pocket springs for a balance of support and pressure relief. The Emma Hybrid has a thinner layer of memory foam and a firmer feel, while the Nectar Lush has a thicker layer of memory foam and a slightly softer feel. The Emma Hybrid may be a better option for those who prefer a firmer mattress and want more support, while the Nectar Lush may be better for those who want a softer feel and more contouring.
  3. Emma Original Foam vs. Nectar Memory Foam: Both mattresses are made entirely of foam and offer a soft, contouring feel. The Emma Original Foam has a slightly firmer feel than the Nectar Memory Foam and may offer better support for back sleepers. The Nectar Memory Foam has a thicker top layer of memory foam and may be a better option for side sleepers who need more pressure relief.

Overall, both Emma and Nectar offer high-quality foam mattresses that can provide good support and comfort for a variety of sleeping positions. The main differences between the two brands come down to the specific construction and feel of each mattress, so it’s important to choose the one that best suits your individual needs and preferences.

I received a queen size Joybed LX for review recently and was glad to finally be able to review a natural mattress made without latex. This is a great choice for people with latex sensitivities that are still looking for a natural mattress. The LX model is the firmest of their offerings followed by the LXC and LXP. Yet none of the models contain latex. Instead, they incorporate layers of wool, cotton and with the LXP, a layer of nano coils to build more cushioning. With a queen size starting at $965, this is a solid price for a natural mattress. Joybeds is a brand started by a mattress manufacturer out of Grand Rapids Michigan with over 100 years experience in the industry. What you get is a solid mattress with a unique construction.

  • Next is a cotton layer we source from a southern, family owned American supplier. Cotton fibers are naturally soft and breathable, allowing air to circulate around your body. The fiber’s superior structure helps wick away and release body moisture as you sleep. Your sleep is improved in a dry and comfortable environment which helps you sleep better and wake more rejuvenated in the morning – a key to a healthier life! Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic keeping a clean and healthy sleeping environment without the use of chemicals. In fact, cotton farming is regulated by the USDA as a food crop, in addition to being annually renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. Cotton is also more durable than foam and will hold its loft longer than foam, which compresses faster than cotton over time.
  • Underneath the cotton is a layer of wool. Unlike synthetic fibers which are smooth, wool fibers have a textured surface that hold large amounts of air serving as a year round comfort layer keeping you cool and dry as you sleep. Wool helps regulate your sleeping temperature by keeping you cool when it’s hot and keeping you warm when it’s cold. Wool also helps wick moisture away as you sleep keeping you dry. When your body is able to sleep in a breathable bed that’s cool and dry, you’re able to sleep deeper, longer and awake feeling stronger and more alert. Wool’s fiber structure also has the added benefit of being naturally fire resistant. Learn More About Cotton & Wool.
  • We then put a second, generous layer of cotton.
  • All of these natural comfort materials are supported by individually pocketed coils that contour to your body and provide proper support. There’s also a double column of coils along the outer edges providing robust edge support so you can sit or rest comfortably all the way to the edge of the bed. They’re encased in a synthetic wrap, a rare use of man-made materials (less than .01% of the mattress by weight.) We even use a plant based glue to adhere certain materials in the spring system. The number of individually pocketed coils by size:

    • Cal King 958

My Joybed Findings

Here’s what the mattress looks like right out of the box. It will come to shape almost instantly so you can sleep on it in just a few hours. Most foam mattresses take longer to come to shape. You can see in the picture below that it is not folded, just rolled. This eliminates the potential for any creases in the mattress.

Joybed Mattress

Here’s a photo illustrating how much the mattress sinks using my 14 lb. bowling ball. The LX model which I received is their firmest and they rate it a 3.5 out of 10 with 10 being the softest and I would say that’s an accurate assessment.

Joybed Sinkage

The video below illustrates motion transfer on the Joybed mattress. Although it has springs, the pocket coil system is designed to isolate motion. You will get a bit of motion transfer but not all that much.

Here’s a look inside the Joybed LX where you can see the layers in more detail. The main comfort layers are cotton and wool with the springs providing support and contouring. Compared to a spring and latex mattress, this mattress doesn’t have as much bounce or sink to it.

Joybed LX

Here’s a view showing edge support. This mattress was designed to have a double column of coils around the perimiter for better edge support. This way you get to maximise the sleeping area of the mattress. Many people I have spoken with prefer to sleep right up to the edge. And because there isn’t foam or latex to provide extra sinking, this is the ideal mattress for that.

Joybed LX edge support

My Joybed Recommendation

The Joybed is a great choice for people looking for a natural mattress without foam or latex. It’s hard to find this construction among the online brands but Joybed is now a great choice. If the firmness of the LX isn’t attractive to you, take a look at the LXC and LXP models. The LXC is a Vegan-Friendly mattress, made without wool but also softer giving you a medium firm feel. If you prefer plush, go with the LXP which adds in nano-coils to provide extra sink and contouring to mimick a latex feel.

UPDATE 2023

The sleep products you have in your bedroom define your sleep quality to a great level. You will never get the quality sleep you require in an uncomfortable bed. Unfortunately, bedding is an expensive deal making it an item that is not easily replaceable. Hence once you purchase a mattress or a bed base to go with it, you expect it to last for quite a few years.

Bed bases are an extremely important part of your bed products. It defines the base for your mattress. An ill-fitting and ill-structured bed base will not give adequate support to your mattress and ultimately to your body while you sleep. When you are looking into buying a bed base, there are lots of factors that you need to bear in mind.

An adjustable bed base is typically more expensive than the normal bed frames. However, they also come with added benefits and flexibility that more than makeup for the cost difference. This article will guide you through those points and help you in justifying the additional cost. Additionally, it will also take you through the ins and outs of the best adjustable bed frame, “Puffy Adjustable Base,” and let you decide why it might be the best choice for your bedroom.

What is an Adjustable Bed Base?

Before you start considering an adjustable bed base as your next bed product purchase, you should understand the concept of it. An adjustable bed frame is one that can be customized as per your preference. You can easily, with the touch of a simple button, “adjust” your mattress to achieve a comfortable sleeping position.

The adjustable bed base is made up of an assortment of joints that can be moved around to allow the base to freely take the level of position you want. This is what grants it the flexibility of different sleeping positions. Each of the joints in the bed base can be rotated to a certain degree, allowing you to get in that perfect position. Generally, you can lift the head and foot of the bed base from 40 degrees to 70 degrees.

Why use an Adjustable Bed Base?

When it comes to buying a product, you should always consider its value for money. This is as important if not more important than the cost of the product. Similarly, when you look at adjustable bed bases, you should be able to justify the higher cost of a traditional bed base. Some advantages of having an adjustable bed base as opposed to a normal bed base are as follows:

Breathing Conditions

Poor breathing patterns during sleep can cause a host of problems like sleep apnea, snoring, and asthma. An adjustable bed base can help you in this regard by elevating your head to the optimal height, which will release pressure from your windpipe, thereby allowing it to operate better. This also encourages increased and regular airflow into your system while you are lying down.

Relieves Insomnia

An adjustable bed base has plenty of sleep positions to choose from. This way, you can get into the most comfortable position aiding you to get a good night’s rest. You can hence say goodbye to the constant tossing and turning that comes with insomnia.

Helps with Swollen Legs

You can both prevent and relieve swollen legs elevating your feet. After a day on your feet, there is nothing more restful than putting your feet up. It allows you to elevate your feet to relieve the pressure from swelling as well as prevent swelling. You don’t have to worry about piling on cushions or pillows under your leg anymore.

Helps in Mobility

An adjustable bed base is a gift for those with mobility issues or those that require a little assistance getting in and out of bed, especially the elderly. With the mattress elevated, you can easily get out of bed without any help from others, making you more independent.

Improved Blood Circulation

Elevated bed positions help with better blood and oxygen circulation in the body. This is because the raised platform relieves pressure on your windpipe and heart, making the organs work more effectively. It also helps in balancing your blood pressure, which naturally drops during sleep.

Eases Joint Pressure

A normal traditional mattress is straight. These puts added pressure on the body joints. The additional pressure can induce conditions like arthritis or worsen the condition. An adjustable bed base allows you to relieve the pressure on the body joints. You can easily find the right spot of elevation that is most comfortable for your body. You can also raise and lower the foot of the bed in the mornings to relieve the arthritis pain.

Back Support

A straight mattress can be too hard on the back, especially for those with lower back problems. The adjustable bed base allows you the flexibility to adjust the mattress level to properly align with the spinal curve of your body, thereby giving your back the best support it can get.

Helps with Heartburn

Lying straight on a surface causes the stomach acids to move upwards along the esophagus. This results in heartburn. With an adjustable bed base, you can raise your head slightly to prevent the acids from traveling upwards, aiding in better digestion and a night of comfortable sound sleep.

Better Rest

Beds are not just for sleeping. They are used for lounging and just relaxing. Most people like to read or watch TV lying on the bed. However, finding that perfect position for lounging on a traditional setup is very difficult. With an adjustable bed base, you can easily raise or lower the head and foot of the bed to get cozy and comfortable.

What to Look for In Adjustable Bed Base?

The market is flooded with numerous adjustable bed bases. Each one claims to be better than the others. This can make it difficult to pick and choose the right one for you. It also makes it easy for you to be duped into buying a substandard bed base. It is hence useful to keep in mind certain factors while looking at different adjustable bed bases. These are:

Simple Head Up

These bed bases are very basic adjustable bed bases. It means that the bed base allows for only the top half adjustment. So, you can raise and lower the top half of the bed to find the right spot. The degree to which it can be raised depends on company to company.

Both Head and Foot

With a head and foot adjustable bed base, you can lift both the top half and the bottom half of the bed base. This makes for a full bed base adjustment. This is a preferred option for an adjustable bed base since it allows you full flexibility. You can lift the bottom half to prevent any leg swelling and relieve arthritis. The top half can be elevated to prevent acid reflux, increase mobility, and enhance lifestyle.

Remote Control

You can get both wired and wireless remote control to operate the bed base adjustment. It is always better to opt for a wireless remote control rather than a wired one since it is more convenient and also makes for better aesthetics.

Zero Gravity

The zero-gravity feature is an awesome feature to be on the lookout for in your bed base. This feature copies a zero-gravity mode by taking off the pressure from your legs and spine. In this, both the top and lower half of the bed is raised. Hence your legs will be at a higher level than your heart, and the upper body will be in a reclining pose. This position allows the body to relax naturally, with its weight evenly distributed on the surface.

Value for Money

Sometimes the most expensive or the least expensive is not necessarily the best choice. Do not be fooled by the price tag or the pretty colors. You must analyze the value for money that the bed base carries with it. This is the most appropriate benchmark for the quality and features of the bed base in question.

2920 Mattress: The Must-Have Choice for Cool Sleepers

2920 Mattress

The 2920 mattress is a 10-inch all-foam mattress that was made by 2920 Sleep. It was designed to provide pressure relief and support for all types of sleepers. The mattress had three layers of foam: a soft top layer, a firmer middle layer, and a dense base layer.

The top layer of the 2920 mattress was made of a proprietary foam called “Micro Air Coil Foam.” This foam was designed to be soft and responsive, while also providing pressure relief. The middle layer of the mattress was made of a denser foam that provided support for the spine. The base layer of the mattress was made of the densest foam, which provided stability and durability.

The 2920 mattress was available in a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. It was also backed by a 365-night sleep trial and a forever warranty.

However, 2920 Sleep is no longer in business, so the 2920 mattress is no longer available. If you are looking for a mattress that is similar to the 2920 mattress, you may want to consider the following options:

  • The Level Sleep mattress is a 10-inch all-foam mattress that has three zones of support. It is designed to provide pressure relief and support for all types of sleepers.
  • The Nectar mattress is a 12-inch all-foam mattress that has five layers of foam. It is designed to be soft and supportive, while also providing pressure relief.
  • The Tuft & Needle mattress is a 10-inch all-foam mattress that has two layers of foam. It is designed to be soft and responsive, while also providing support for the spine.

The 2920 mattress is a responsive memory foam mattress that is breathable and supportive. Although this is isn’t the cheapest mattress on the market, coming in at $995 for a queen, it is a quality build and should appeal to most sleepers making it a great choice for couples with different firmness preferences.

Overview of the 2920 Mattress

The 2920 mattress can be ordered direct from their website. It will arrive in about a week after ordering and comes with a 100-night free trial. All this is fairly standard for an online mattress company. It is also made in the USA.

Here’s a video of me on the 2290 mattress. It sort of reminds me of the Leesa mattress but just felt a little more substantial.

2920 Mattress Construction

The 2920 mattress is 10 inches in depth with the following layers.

2″ inch layer of gel foam

1″ layer of support/transition foam

5.5″ support layer

1.5″ base layer

2920 mattress details

Here’s a look at the inside of the mattress and the layers.

2920 Mattress Construction

2920 Mattress Findings

You’ll see that the 2920 has a little bit of bounce but not much motion transfer. I’ll attribute this to the 1″ support and comfort layer which is a foam/latex blend. It gives the mattress quicker recovery without sacrificing pressure relief.

Below is a video I shot with my thermal camera. This mattress sleeps fairly cool for an all foam mattress. The top layers of foam aren’t that dense which provides some breathability. I also attribute this to the stretch knit cover. In terms of how this compares to other mattresses with similar construction, I would say it is about average for heat retention. It will definitely sleep cooler than denser foam mattresses such as the Nectar and Cocoon.

Below is a video that shows how each layer of the 2920 mattress will react. As you can see in the video every layer of this mattress recovers quickly. The top layer is the slowest to recover but even that bounces back fast. This means that this mattress is easy to mover around on but you will sacrifice some pressure relief. I have found that denser foam mattresses will contour better and provide better pressure relief but a mattress like this is more breathable and easier to switch positions. There’s always some tradeoff depending on which material you go with and you just need to understand what you sleep priorities are.

My 2920 Mattress Recommendation

2920 isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last online mattress offering. However it does offer another choice for consumers. For context, if you are looking for a mattress that recovers quick, sleeps cool for a foam bed and has minimal motion transfer, this would be a good choice. I found it to be a little firmer than the Leesa but softer than the firm version of the Cocoon mattress.

Aside from the mattress, 2920 also offers sheets and pillows. The sheets are made with organic cotton and are a 300 thread count.

2920 sheets

The pillows look amazing as they are made with natural latex and have a knit cover.

2920 pillows
