Recore Mattress Review: Original Canadian Performance-Foam Testing Restored

Construction

The reviewed Recore combined a responsive graphite-latex-like upper layer, a cooling-gel foam transition layer and a support-foam base under a removable zippered cover.

Sinkage and response

Our 14-pound bowling ball showed moderate sinkage. The top layer recovered quickly, making position changes easier than on slow traditional memory foam.

Motion and bounce

Motion transfer remained low, but the dropped bowling ball still rebounded noticeably. That balance—low partner disturbance with some liveliness—was one of the mattress’s more interesting traits.

Inside the mattress

Yawnder unzipped the cover and photographed perforations in the upper layer, the gel-foam transition layer and the base support foam. The openings were designed to increase airflow through the comfort system.

Douglas Mattress Review: Original Canadian Foam Testing Restored

The Douglas page had lost much of the hands-on material from Yawnder’s original Canadian review.

Canadian-focused construction

The reviewed Douglas used Canadian-sourced foams/fabrics and was sold specifically to the Canadian market.

Three-layer feel

The comfort system combined cooling gel foam, a more responsive transition foam and a dense support base.

Soft initial contouring with quick recovery

The top layer conformed readily around the body, giving the mattress a softer first impression, but it recovered faster than traditional dense memory foam.

Sinkage

Our 14-pound bowling ball showed meaningful pressure relief without the mattress feeling excessively slow.

Motion isolation

The all-foam construction contained partner movement well, while the quicker-response upper foam made repositioning easier than on very slow memory foam.

Side-sleeper fit

Yawnder’s original recommendation particularly favored side sleepers because the upper layers relieved shoulder and hip pressure.
