What is the Rest Duvet?

The Rest Duvet comforter is a lightweight, down-alternative comforter designed specifically for hot sleepers. It’s made with a proprietary fabric that’s both cool to the touch and moisture-wicking, and it has a cooling effect that’s said to be 1.9x cooler than silk.

Here are some of the key features of the Rest Duvet comforter:

  • Cooling: The cool-to-the-touch fabric and moisture-wicking properties help to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
  • Lightweight: The comforter is lightweight and breathable, making it perfect for warm weather or for people who tend to sleep hot.
  • Soft and cozy: The comforter is also soft and cozy, making it perfect for snuggling up under.
  • Machine washable: The comforter is machine washable and dryer safe, making it easy to care for.
  • Good Housekeeping Award Winner: The comforter has won the Good Housekeeping Award for best comforter for hot sleepers.

  • It is available in a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king.
  • It comes in a variety of colors, including white, gray, and blue.
  • It is priced at around $139.30.

How Does the Rest Duvet Work?

The Rest Duvet comforter keeps you cool through a combination of innovative fabric technology and thoughtful design:

1. Cool-to-the-touch fabric: The outer shell of the comforter is made from a proprietary Evercool™ fabric blend. This unique fabric has a special finish that feels cool against your skin, almost like a refreshing sensation.

2. Rapid heat absorption and dissipation: The Evercool™ fabric goes beyond just feeling cool initially. It’s designed to rapidly absorb and disperse your body heat away from the comforter, preventing it from building up and making you feel hot and sweaty. This is achieved through the fabric’s tight weave and special fibers that conduct heat away efficiently.

3. Moisture-wicking properties: Another key aspect of the cooling effect is the fabric’s ability to wick away moisture. As you sleep, your body naturally releases sweat, and traditional comforters can trap this moisture, making you feel clammy and uncomfortable. The Evercool™ fabric wicks away this moisture, keeping you feeling dry and cool throughout the night.

4. Breathable construction: The comforter’s filling is made from Sorona®, a lightweight and breathable material that allows air to circulate freely. This prevents the comforter from trapping heat and keeps you feeling cool and comfortable.

5. Lightweight design: Unlike bulky traditional comforters, the Rest Duvet is lightweight and doesn’t weigh you down as you sleep. This further contributes to the overall feeling of coolness and comfort.

By combining these features, the Rest Duvet provides a multi-pronged approach to keeping you cool and comfortable while you sleep, making it a popular choice for hot sleepers.

Benefits of a Cooling Comforter

A cooling comforter is designed to help regulate your body temperature, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep, especially for those who tend to sleep hot or live in warmer climates. Here are some benefits of using a cooling comforter:

  1. Temperature Regulation: Cooling comforters are made with materials that help dissipate heat, such as breathable fabrics, moisture-wicking fibers, and temperature-regulating technology. This helps you maintain a comfortable body temperature throughout the night.

  2. Improved Sleep Quality: By keeping your body temperature within an optimal range, cooling comforters can help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and experience fewer disruptions due to overheating or sweating.

  3. Moisture-Wicking: Many cooling comforters are designed to wick away moisture from your body, preventing dampness and discomfort. This can be particularly beneficial for those who tend to sweat during the night.

  4. Hypoallergenic: Some cooling comforters are made with hypoallergenic materials, reducing the risk of allergies or sensitivities. This can be especially helpful for individuals with asthma or other respiratory issues.

  5. Energy Savings: By providing a cooler sleeping environment, you may be able to use less air conditioning during warm months, potentially reducing your energy consumption and utility bills.

  6. Easy Care: Many cooling comforters are machine-washable and dryer-friendly, making them easy to clean and maintain.

  7. Versatility: Cooling comforters come in various sizes and styles, so you can choose one that suits your preferences and bedding needs. Some can be used year-round, while others are best suited for warmer months.

  8. Extended Lifespan of Mattress: By reducing the amount of heat trapped in your bedding, a cooling comforter can help prolong the life of your mattress by preventing excess wear and tear from trapped heat.

  9. Enhanced Comfort: Cooling comforters are often lightweight and designed for optimal airflow, making them comfortable to use even on hot summer nights.

  10. Improved Health: Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for your overall health and well-being. Using a cooling comforter to regulate your body temperature can help you achieve better quality sleep, which can contribute to improved physical and mental health.

Overview of Rest Duvet’s Original Hotel Duvet + Vegan Duvet

  • 30-Night Trial with Free Shipping & Return
  • Made in China
  • Original Hotel Duvet: $299 Retail
  • Vegan Duvet: $199 Retail

The duvets we’re looking at today are their Original Hotel Duvet, which is made of down, as well as their Vegan Duvet. Both duvets that I’ve received were Queen/Full size and were All Season warm. I slept under both duvets and I have to say that I enjoyed them both. I live in New York and the days I used the duvets, the weather was around 50 degrees F during the day and around 30 degrees F at night. I was able to sleep under both duvets comfortably. One, with no heat turned on at the house at all, and the other with some heat. I didn’t get hot or sweaty at all; overall, I was really impressed with how pleasant they were and how peacefully I slept. With duvets, I often assume they’ll get hot very quickly but neither did. They made for a wonderful and restful experience.

Regarding the filling of each of the duvets, both materials have been carefully chosen and handled. The down clusters used in their Original Hotel duvet are ultra-clean, meaning they’ve been washed 15 times before being placed into the duvet. This rigorous process makes for a product that is both hypoallergenic and free of any smell that can at times be associated with down products. It’s so clean that you could bury your face in it, the moment you break it out of its packaging.
The vegan duvet utilizes corn PLA fiber, a fantastic down alternative for its ability to closely mimic the fluffiness and warmth of down. It’s better than other non-down fillings, such as bamboo, silk and polyester. You don’t have to compromise when it comes to coziness just because you want to be animal-friendly but another neat feature is how sustainable corn PLA fiber is and what a low carbon footprint it has. For the eco-conscious, these types of details make for a definite win.

It is made of a proprietary fabric that is both cool to the touch and moisture-wicking, and it has a cooling effect that is said to be 1.9x cooler than silk. The Rest Evercool Comforter is a popular choice for hot sleepers who are looking for a comfortable and cooling sleep experience. It has been praised for its softness, its cooling effect, and its easy care.

rest evercool comforter

One of the standout features of the Evercool Cooling Comforter is its ability to dissipate heat. The comforter is made with a special type of fabric that is infused with cooling fibers. These fibers work by absorbing excess heat and dispersing it away from your body. This means that you can sleep comfortably throughout the night without worrying about overheating.

Another great feature of the Evercool Cooling Comforter is its weight. The comforter is lightweight, yet it still provides a cozy and warm feeling. The lightweight nature of the comforter makes it easy to move around and adjust as needed, which is especially important for people who tend to toss and turn during the night.

Comfort and Durability

The Evercool Cooling Comforter from Rest is made with high-quality materials that are designed to last. The comforter is filled with premium microfiber fill that is both soft and durable. The fill is evenly distributed throughout the comforter, which means that you won’t have to worry about any lumps or bumps forming.

The comforter is also machine washable, which makes it easy to clean and maintain. Simply toss it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on low heat.

Overall, we believe that the Evercool Cooling Comforter from Rest is an excellent choice for anyone in need of a high-quality and comfortable comforter. Its ability to regulate body temperature, lightweight nature, and durability make it stand out from the competition. We highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get a restful and comfortable night’s sleep.

Rest Duvet Complaints

While the Rest Duvet comforter is generally well-received, there are some common complaints that users have:

1. Price: The Rest Duvet comforter is priced at around $139.30, which some users find to be expensive.

2. Not suitable for cold sleepers: While designed for hot sleepers, some users who run cold find the comforter to be too thin and not provide enough warmth during colder weather.

3. Difficult to dry: The comforter’s large size makes it difficult to dry in a standard home dryer, requiring users to hang dry it, which can be inconvenient, especially in colder months or smaller living spaces.

4. Durability concerns: Some users have reported concerns about the comforter’s durability, with some experiencing rips or tears after extended use.

5. Not as cooling as advertised: While many users find the comforter to be effective in keeping them cool, some have reported that it doesn’t live up to the advertised “1.9x cooler than silk” claim.

It’s important to note that these are just some of the reported complaints, and individual experiences may vary. It’s always a good idea to read reviews from other users before making a purchase to see if the comforter is right for you.

Nest Bedding Silk Cloud Comforter Review

Benefits of a Silk Comforter

Before we get into the Nest silk comforter review, let’s go over the biggest benefits of a silk comforter. If you have never owned a silk comforter, you are in for a totally different sleep experience. Here’s a few things you can expect.

  1. Silk Comforters drape your body closely and eliminate any air gaps giving you a more consistent temperature across your body and throughout the night.
  2. Silk comforters are better than cotton, wool and even down at regulating temperature, you won’t get too hot or too cold meaning you will stay asleep longer and less prone to changing positions at night.
  3. Silk comforters are thinner than a typical down comforter which means they are lighter but work better than a down comforter.
  4. You can use a silk comforter in a warm or cold environment. Either way they will feel great.
  5. It’s hard to beat a silk comforter when it comes to durability. This could easily be the last comforter you ever buy if you take care of it.

The Nest Silk Cloud Comforter

Nest Silk Cloud Comforter

I recently received a silk comforter from Nest Bedding for review.  Let’s just start out by saying you can go crazy with silk. Frette sells their Villa Silk Duvet Filler for $3,100 in a king, and I’m sure it’s amazing but you don’t need to break the bank to get the benefits of silk. The Nest silk comforter sells for $499 in a king/cal king.

Even if you have a queen size bed, I recommend going with the king size since it will cover more of your bed and you won’t have to fight your partner for bedding at night.

When you order through Nest, you package will arrive in a nondescript box and inside it will be wrapped in plastic.

Nest Silk Comforter Packaging

The comforter itself is also wrapped in plastic just in your package gets wet al0ng the way. You also get a nice cloth bag to store the comforter when not in use.

Nest Comforter

Once opened you can start using it right away, there’s not harmful smells and it feels great right out of the box. I do recommend a duvet cover to keep it clean though. I recommend a bamboo or Tencel duvet and sheet set to further help regulate temperature and keep you cool.

As you can see, this duvet is fairly thin compared to

Most other silk comforters sold online have a minimal amount of filling, but not ours. Our Mulberry silk comforter fill amount is 200gsm/ 2.0 Kg. We found after extensive research and testing, that 200gsm is the perfect fill amount to make this comforter best for all seasons. Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet Review

Ministry of Supply Review

It’s rare that a duvet will keep you at an ideal temperature year-round. This is especially true in colder climates. And even if you do find a duvet insert with multiple layers you can swap out, chances are if you sleep with a partner, they probably sleep warmer or cooler than you. Enter the Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply. Ministry of Supply was founded in 2012 by two MIT students with the goal of using science to create more comfortable clothing and textiles. The Apollo Duvet is an innovative take on an age-old piece of fabric we sleep with every night.  This duvet inset attempts to provide more customization for temperature control for each side of the bed. While this duvet insert certainly isn’t cheap at $358 for a queen size, it is worth a try.

Ordering Unboxing the Apollo Climate Control Duvet

I was given a free queen-size duvet for review by the Ministry of Supply. It arrived in a box a little bigger than the bag below. The bag can be reused for storage or for other purposes. I was impressed with the packaging and thought put into the design. Shipping is relatively fast and should arrive about a week after placing your order. This duvet comes with a 100-day trial. If you don’t like it, it’s a free return and you will get store credit instead of a refund. I would prefer a full refund but there are plenty of cool things to choose from in the store and chances are you will probably keep the duvet anyways.

Apollo Duvet Packaging

Construction of the Apollo Duvet

Below are the construction details of the Apollo Duvet as listed on their website. What sets this duvet apart from most duvets on the market is the Phase Change Material. If you are at all familiar with new mattresses, most of them will have a phase change material on their cover. This is makes the fabric cool to the touch and will help draw out heat to keep you cool. Of course, it will eventually reach a saturation point until it cools down again but it feels great and should help you fall asleep a little faster and keep you asleep.

  • NASA-derived temperature regulating Phase Change Material
  • Dual-layer modular insulation system supports two simultaneous weights
  • Tonal snaps for easy alignment
  • Made of hypoallergenic materials
  • Storage bag included; duvet cover not included
  • Duvet weighs 6lb 1oz; extra panels weigh 3lb 2oz each
  • 200 GSM duvet + two extra 150 GSM panels
  • Shell: 55% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 45% Cotton
  • Fill: 70% Recycled Polyester (GRS), 30% Outlast PCM Viscose
  • Made by Staroon Textile Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang, CN)
  • Dimensions: 90″ x 92″ (extra panels are 45″ x 92″)
  • Comfortably fits Queen and Full sized beds
  • Additional panels can double as individual Twin-sized duvets

My Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet Findings and Recommendation

Out of the bag, the duvet is neatly rolled up. Good luck getting it back in that bag, it was hard enough getting it out.

unboxed apollo duvet

There are some neat details with this duvet that I haven’t seen elsewhere such as this little diagram illustrating how the duvet works. Come to think of it, this would be an ideal duvet for guests. You never know how they set their thermostat at night and they could be sleeping much hotter or colder than you, especially if they are on a different floor of the house. By empowering them to adjust the thickness of the duvet and providing more temperature regulation, they should sleep much better!

Apollo Duvet Instructions

Here’s what the duvet looks like right out of the box and unrolled. Notice that there are two distinct sides. This duvet is on a queen size bed. It comes with the second layers fully attached which is what I would recommend starting with. I would also highly recommend putting this in a duvet cover to keep it clean. While it can be machine washed, it’s much more of a hassle to wash the insert rather than the cover.

ministry of supply duvet on bed

The perimeter of the duvet has snap buttons while the inside attachments use the buttons below. My guess is that these types of buttons on the inside of the duvet are less noticeable while you are sleeping. The tradeoff is that they are slightly more cumbersome to attach but they are needed to keep each side together.

apollo duvet attachment

The snap buttons are well made and look great with more of a mat finish.

apollo duvet button

Aside from the instruction diagram, there is also a care tag stitched on all four sides to the outside of the duvet. It’s a minor detail but one that I appreciate as I hate having those tax hanging off the end of my duvet. I normally rip them off then lose the care instructions.

Final Thoughts on the Ministry of Supply Duvet

This duvet is a summer and winter duvet in one. Instead of buying two duvets you can buy this one that, for the money, will basically be the same value as two of your other duvets. I phase change material is subtle but does work and every advantage I can get for sleeping better at night, I’ll take. This is definitely worth the investment, I just wish it came in a king size.

Kailu Heritage Duvet Review

Kailu Silk Duvet Insert Review
Best Silk Duvet
Kailu
$575 (Queen)

KAILU's raw silk-filled duvet is the product of old-world artisanal handcraft and modern design, resulting in a uniquely luxurious sleep experience. With an ultra-smooth feel and evenly pressured weight, our duvet is filled with fluffy raw silk that is hand stretched into blanket-size layers, stacked, and then hand stitched to prevent shifting and cold spots.

We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

I’m a big fan of silk duvet inserts. What sets them apart from down or down alternative duvet inserts is that a quality silk duvet will last decades. The Kailu silk comforter is made with raw silk that is hand-stretched to provide consistent comfort throughout. You can also choose between a single and dual-core set. If you live in a warmer climate the single core is your best option while people living in northern states will want to go with the dual-core. The Kailu comforter is certainly not the cheapest-priced comforter but in terms of quality, feel, temperature regulation and durability, it’s way ahead of the pack.

Overview of the Kailu Silk Comforter

Kailu was founded in 2018 by LiLi Tan, an Emmy-winning journalist and former magazine editor. Kailu is Mandarin for “Open Road.” The name is inspired by Kailushen, a Chinese god (shen) who removes barriers and clears the way. Its mission is:

“…to open the road for those who are curious about the world, ready to explore new ideas and discover new experiences, and desirous of meaningful goods that benefit others and themselves.”

The Kailu silk products are handmade in the Yangtze River Delta which has a long history of handmade bedding. It’s clear that a lot of thought and craftsmanship has gone into this product. Here’s a video overview I made of the comforter. For this review, I received a dual-core set, emperor size.

Here are the construction details as of this writing.

My Kailu Duvet Findings

A lot of detail has gone into creating this product. Even the packaging is something you will want to hold on to. You can use it to store comforter or if you go with the dual core option, you can store one of the cores during the summer months when you don’t need two.

Kailu Bags

I have been sleeping on my Kailu comforter for over two months now and I am extremely happy with it. If you have never slept with a silk comforter, the first thing you will notice is that it hugs your body. There are no dead spaces that you may find with a down comforter. This makes silk comforters extra cozy and provides a consistent temperature throughout the night. Additionally, the silk doesn’t make me too hot or too cold. I have been using a single layer all summer. I may add the second core this winter but being in San Diego right now, our house doesn’t really get that cold.

Kailu Silk Duvet Insert

The comforter has 8 ties to secure the duvet cover. Most comforters I receive only have 4, or one for each corner. The extra ties in the middle of the comforter ensure that the comforter lays evenly across your bed on won’t get scrunched up overnight. It’s a small but important detail that that makes for a neater bed.

If you have a king size bed, I strongly recommend going with the emperor size.

Queen: 86 in. x 86 in.
King: 94 in. x 104 in.
Emperor: 98 in. x 110 in.

I like having the duvet drape over my bed and it keeps me and my wife from fighting over the bedding.

Quality silk comforters are hard to come by and you definitely get what you pay for here. You get more silk and an included duvet cover. I have done a lot of traveling this past summer and it has been so nice to come home to a bed with this type of bedding. Once you go silk, it will be hard to go back to any other textile.

Avocado Alpaca Duvet Review

avocado alpaca duvet insert

I received a king size lightweight Avocado alpaca duvet insert for review. This is the first alpaca duvet insert I have tried and after sleeping with it for over a week, I have noticed some significant advantages over a down or down alternative duvet insert. Although this is expensive, at $479 for a king sie lightweight, it is not overly thick and lays on the mattress neatly. It also does a phenomenal job of regulating temperature throughout the night. Avocado is best known for their all-natural mattress but they have expanded their offering of products to outfit your whole bedroom.

Ordering the Avocado Alpaca Duvet

You can order this exclusively through the Avocado website. They occasionally have discounts and they can be found on the website at checkout. It will arrive in a nondescript box and you will get tracking. These ship fast as they are normally in stock. As you can see below the are wrapped in plastic to stay clean and tied together with cloth ribbons.

Alpaca fiber is renowned in the textile industry for its unparalleled sophistication. It has the delicate texture of cashmere, the luster of silk, and the functionality of sheep’s wool. It’s lightweight, temperature and moisture regulating, flame resistant, and antimicrobial. And we fill our Alpaca Duvet Insert with 100% Peruvian alpaca fiber. Our lightweight Alpaca Duvet Insert has 2,100 grams of 28-30 micron alpaca fiber. Our 4 season version has 2,800 grams of 28-30 micron alpaca fiber. My Avocado Alpaca Duvet Insert Findings and Recommendation

The first thing I noticed about this duvet insert is that it didn’t smell. That’s because there’s no synthetic material. It’s basically just alpaca with an organic cotton cover. Once you unravel it, you will find large loops for your duvet ties at each corner.

Here’s the law tag showing exactly what it is made of and where it is made. The alpaca is imported from Peru.

Here’s a photo of it on my king size bed, right out of the box. Normally, I will wash my duvet first if it is made of synthetic materials but this one cannot be washed, they do not recommend dry cleaning either. Instead, to freshen it up you should air it out in the sun. I know that may not be practical for everyone so if you do commit to purchasing an alpaca duvet insert, make sure you are always using a duvet cover and be mindful about eating or drinking in bed!

Duvet on Bed

The duvet is stitched into squares to keep the alpaca filling from shifting to one part of the duvet insert. This is not a fluffy duvet like a down duvet would be. It feels more like a thick blanket.

If you are on the fence about whether or not to get the lightweight or all season, I would recommend the lightweight for people that live in predominantly warmer areas. If you live in the upper midwest, pacific northwest or northeast, definitely get the all season. Here’s a picture to give you an idea of thickness.

Overall, I really enjoy my alpaca duvet. It regulates temperature better than any synthetic material I have tried and is more breathable than down. I don’t feel like kicking it off at night because I am too hot. It also keeps me warm enough but I would recommend going with the all-season if you keep your bedroom cooler than 65 degrees at night Chances are you are reading this review because you are committed to purchasing products that are made sustainably. You may also be drawn to this because you want a chemical-free bedroom. If you already have a natural mattress it only makes sense to add organic cotton sheets and a natural duvet insert like this one.
