Tulo Mattress: Stunning Comfort Choices for Effortless Sleep

Tulo mattress firm box mattress

Update. Get the Full Tulo Mattress Review Here.

Mattress Firm just recently launched a competitor to all the other online brands. Mattress firm is like the Starbucks of the coffee world. There is one on almost every corner and they are a dominant player in the mattress space. It’s only fitting that they would get into a growing segment of the mattress market.

Mattress firm can leverage their wide distribution network to get you your Tul mattress quickly. Apparently within 48 hours in most areas.

Here are some videos that give an overview of the mattress.

Below is a more in depth explanation of the mattresses.

Below is a press release from the latex bed in a box brand, Tulo…

One is Not a Choice: Introducing tulo, a Bed-in-a-Box Brand with Variety

tulo offers mattresses in three comfort levels, all at the same affordable pricing, with the option to purchase online or in-store

tulo™, a new bed-in-a-box-brand puts the customer first by offering choice, convenience, comfort and value, launched in New York today.  tulo offers consumers with choice, such as three different mattress comfort levels at the same great price, buying online or experiencing the product in-store, 120 nights to decide if your tulo is the right fit, and 48-hour delivery. The brand was created to fill the gap that exists in the category by putting everything consumers want in a bed, into a box. Each tulo incorporates an exclusive combination of materials designed to provide a durable, pressure relieving mattress that helps consumers sleep cool.

Based off years of research and development, tulo™ recognized that there is not a perfect bed for everyone.  Using sleep position as the baseline for development, tulo identified a growing need to provide consumers with more choices when it comes to their mattress in order to appeal to all kinds of sleepers:

  • tulo Soft: Made for  side sleepers and designed to relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips  to minimize tossing and turning
  • tulo Medium: Ideal for multiple sleep positions, but specifically stomach sleepers, offering a unique blend of Soft and Firm – providing that just-right feel
  • tulo Firm: Created for back sleepers and designed to provide head-to-toe and edge-to-edge firmness, allowing for total body support

“We fundamentally believe that one is not a choice, and that everyone should be able to choose the mattress that provides them with the best night’s sleep based upon their comfort needs,” said Sunni Goodman, SVP of Communications at Mattress Firm and tulo Brand Ambassador. “We understand a mattress is a personal investment and strive to accommodate consumers with choice, including the mattress’ comfort level, how they experience it, and, ultimately, how they purchase and receive it.”

Each tulo™ mattress features a unique blend of open cell technology and high resiliency material to contribute to a long lasting and fatigue-free comfort level. Additionally, unlike most bed-in-a-box mattresses who only offer one, two or three layer designs, all tulo mattresses feature a four-layer design. Combined, these four layers will increase airflow—as the top two layers form an exclusive airflow system— to control comfort, and keep consumers cool throughout their sleep cycle.

tulo mattress review

Consumers can simply order online and choose their delivery date and time; or, they can visit Mattress Firm stores nationwide to experience tulo’s™ three mattress options in-person. Each tulo mattress arrives at consumers’ doors in two days or less, with unboxing taking no more than a few minutes. Customers can also choose to have a delivery expert unbox and set up their new bed as well as remove the old mattress and packaging.

tulo™ is now available and currently offers the following mattress sizes: Twin ($375), Twin XL ($425), Full ($550), Queen ($650), King ($800) and California King ($800).

Tanda Mattress Review: Must-Have Cool Comfort Awaits

Tanda Mattress Review

The Dromma Bed has been discontinued. Please check out our other mattress reviews.

[vc_column_text class=”sleep-sherpa-exclusive-deal”]I just received a free Tanda Mattress for review. The Tanda mattress comes in two constructions, the Comfy Cool mattress and the Complete Cool mattress. I received the Complete cool mattress which features something called, ATROS technology. This is a phase change material to the extreme. It provides a lasting cooling sensation to keep you comfortable throughout the night.  Both models of the Tanda are all memory foam mattresses.

Overview of the Tanda Mattress

You can order the Tanda directly through their website. As with most of the online mattress brands, this one will arrive about a week after placing your order and will arrive in a box at your door. No need to wait for scheduled delivery times either.

Prices for the Tanda are as follows:

Twin $550
Twin XL $600
Full $800
Queen $950
King $1,150
Cal King $1,150

Tanda Mattress Construction

The Tanda mattress is constructed as follows:

  • 10 inches high
  • Top layer is a Tencel fabric with ATROS technology
  • Top layer of comfort foam
  • Transition layer of gel memory foam
  • Base layer of support foam

Tanda Mattress Construction

My Tanda findings

The Tanda definitely lives up to its claims by sleeping cool. Even lying on the mattress with a light sweater, I could feel the cooling effect of the ATROS technology. Below is a video shot with my thermal camera to illustrate heat retention. Just note that the video below doesn’t tell the whole story. This mattress is actually cool to the touch so even though there is heat coming off the mattress you still get a cooling sensation.

This mattress sink a little bit but I wouldn’t call it a plush mattress. I would say it is more a true medium firm foam mattress. Here’s a picutre to show how much the mattress will sink.

Tanda mattress sink

Here’s a video demonstrating the amount of motion transfer you can expect with this mattress. Again, since it’s an all foam mattress you won’t have to deal with your partner waking you up at night from tossing and turning.

Finally, here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. You’ll noticed that it doesn’t bounce back immediately but also doesn’t take too long to recover. This again gives it a good balance of pressure relief and responsiveness.

My Tanda Mattress Recommendation

The Tanda mattress is an excellent choice for people looking for a mattress with denser foam than many of the more popular options that also can sleep cool. The ATROS technology is no joke. It really will help you sleep cool. To compliment their cool sleeping mattress, they also offer pillows with the same cooling technology. The Complete Cool pillow retails for $75 and is made with a shredded foam inside. Below is a picture of the inside of the pillow.

Tanda Pillow Inside

These pillows have gusseted edges which make them ideal for side sleeping.

Tanda PIllow

In conclusion, if you have tried and like the feel of memory foam but are having trouble with heat retention issues, I think the Tanda would be a great choice for people that sleep hot. You should get immediate relief with the cool to the touch cover that should have a lasting effect to keep you asleep.

Sleepy’s Launches New Roll Packed Mattress in a Box

Sleepy
One of the largest and oldest mattress companies in the US, Sleepy’s first came into existence in 1931. Led by Louis Acker and his son Harry, Sleepy’s first store was opened 86 years ago in New York City. The business was registered as a mattress company in 1957 under the name Bedding Discount Center. In 1975, the name was changed to Sleepy’s. Harry Acker’s son David took over as president of Sleepy’s in 2001. Sleepy’s was recognized as the ‘fastest growing furniture retailer’ by a trade publication in 2009, and was the 11th largest mattress company as of 2014. With over 1000 showrooms and a broad customer base across the country, Sleepy’s is one of the leading mattress companies in the US. In 2015, Sleepy’s was acquired by Mattress Firm, and all its products rebranded. Sleepy’s still functions as an online retailer, and their mattresses remain as popular now as they were eight decades ago. One of the most respected brands in mattresses, Sleepy’s have always ensured customer satisfaction with their unique, top-quality products.   Sleepy’s new mattresses To keep up with the bed in a box phenomenon, Sleepy’s has come up with three new mattresses. Memory foam mattresses are a rage now, and it was high time Sleepy’s jumped on the bandwagon too. Regardless of your size, weight, or preference, the new Sleepy’s mattresses have been designed to suit a variety of people with choices as unique as the brand itself. Let’s take a look at the mattresses.   Sleepy’s Essential 8” Memory Foam Mattress If you have always stayed away from 8” mattresses because they lack proper support and comfort, Sleepy’s is here to change your mind. Sleepy’s Essential 8” Memory Foam Mattress may be thinner compared to its 10” and 12” counterparts, but packs quite a punch. This no-frills basic mattress is made of two layers—the support layer and the comfort layer. The 4-inch foundation layer made of high density poly urethane is designed to provide better support to both back and side sleepers, no matter what their weight. The top layer constructed from 4-inch memory foam is velvety-plush and molds to your body to provide a restful, comfortable sleep. The mattress is rated by the company as medium on the firmness scale—i.e.: neither too soft nor too firm. The ventilated woven cover ensures breathability and helps you sleep cool without sweat or discomfort. The top layer provides some responsiveness and bounce, and prevents sinkage and motion transfer to a great extent. Suitable for adjustable base beds, Sleepy’s Essential 8” Memory Foam Mattress comes with a 60-day return and refund policy, so you can always swap your mattress for a different one if you are not happy with it. The mattress comes in five sizes, and retails from $320.   Sleepy’s Limited 10” Mattress For those who prefer 10-inch mattresses that are soft, comfortable, and yet firm enough to provide some support, Sleepy’s Limited 10” Mattress is the ideal choice. It figures between its 8” and 12” cousins, and provides ultimate softness and comfort with its three layers— two comfort layers and the core support layer. Like most Sleepy’s mattresses, the core layer is made of 5.5-inch high density poly urethane with memory foam construction to provide comfortable support. The two comfort layers are designed to lend a plush feel to the mattress. The 3-inch super soft polyurethane layer provides a luxurious comfort to the sleeper, while the 1.5-inch memory foam layer provides additional support. The mattress comes with fire retardant fabric covers for added protection. The mattress is rated as plush on the firmness scale, so it might not be suitable for those who prefer a firmer feel. Sleepers on the heavier side could experience some sinkage and motion transfer, but others should have no problems with this plush mattress. It offers exceptional breathability and cooling, and conforms to your body to provide the maximum comfort. The mattress is shipped in a pack and roll box, and is available in five sizes—from twin to cal king. If you are looking for a plush memory foam mattress on a budget, Sleepy’s Limited 10” Mattress is a great choice, since it retails from $299.   Sleepy’s Cool Plush 12” Memory Foam Mattress Looking for a mattress that keeps you cool without breaking the bank? Sleepy’s Cool Plush 12” Memory Foam Mattress should be your pick. While luxury cooling mattresses cost you an arm and leg, Sleepy’s provides the same quality and comfort at a fraction of the price. This 12-inch mattress offers unmatched support to all kinds of sleepers, thanks to its two-layer construction. The 3-inch memory foam layer provides exceptional support by molding to the sleeper’s body. The gel-infused cooling technology ensures maximum breathability for those who sleep hot, and eliminates sweat and discomfort. No matter what the sleeper’s weight or position of sleeping, this layer ensures a peaceful rest every night. Then there’s the 9-inch support layer made from high density poly urethane that makes the mattress sturdy and durable for years to come. This ventilated mattress is rated as plush on the firmness scale, but its thickness ensures superior support and comfort for all kinds of sleepers. Low motion transfer and sinkage, and some level of responsiveness and bounce aid in a luxurious sleep. Sleepy’s Cool Plush 12” Memory Foam Mattress is available in all sizes, ships worldwide for free, and retails from $820. The 60-day return and refund policy is applicable on all of the above mattresses, and items above $599 qualify for free national shipping.   Despite the rise of luxury mattresses, Sleepy’s ensures the same quality and features at a much affordable price. One of the oldest and most reputed mattress companies in the US, Sleepy’s mattresses come with a manufacturer warranty of up to 25 years. The company also has thirteen other mattress brands, some of the most popular ones being Beautyrest, Dream Bed, and Snuggle Home. For high-end mattresses at an affordable price, look no further than Sleepy’s that offers luxurious rest without breaking the bank.

Gravity Blanket: Risky Miracle or Must-Have Wellness Tool?

what is a gravity blanket

So, What Exactly is a Gravity Blanket and What Can it Do?

Understanding the Gravity Blanket Phenomenon

In recent years, the Gravity blanket has captured the attention of many, particularly those struggling with insomnia, anxiety, or related conditions. The idea is simple yet alluring: a blanket that promises to provide relief from your troubles. However, reality is often more complex than appealing advertisements suggest.

Initially pitched as a miracle solution for various medical conditions including PTSD and depression, Gravity garnered impressive funding—$3 million through online crowdfunding. This venture ignited hope, but an unexpected turn of events marked a significant shift in public perception, primarily following scrutiny from the FDA and Kickstarter.

The Reality Check

Despite its initial hype, the claims surrounding the Gravity blanket were not backed by robust long-term evidence. The blanket operates on the concept of deep touch pressure stimulation, which mimics the sensation of being hugged and may offer a placebo effect for conditions like anxiety and insomnia. Yet, solid scientific validation remains limited.

The company behind Gravity soon faced backlash for its marketing tactics. It was found to have violated Kickstarter’s policies and FDA guidelines, which prohibit products from being presented as cures. Rather than promoting a medical solution, Gravity had to transition its marketing, rebranding the blanket as a “wellness product.” Instead of claiming to cure ailments, they now suggest it may provide some benefits.

What is a Gravity Blanket?

Conducted under the umbrella of weighted blankets, the Gravity blanket operates on the principle of applying gentle, evenly distributed pressure across the body. This design aims to evoke calming sensations akin to being embraced. Typically, the weight of a gravity blanket is about 10 percent of the user’s total body weight. Custom-made options can be significantly pricier than standard blankets.

Gravity marketed itself as a “premium-grade, therapeutic weighted blanket,” promising relief for emotional and mental health issues. The success of its crowdfunding campaign, which attracted over 15,000 backers, underscored the demand for such products.

The Promises and Pitfalls

The blanket generated substantial interest by playing on the psychological desires of individuals suffering from various conditions. As with any wellness product, the allure of a simpler, cost-effective solution to anxiety and depression is tempting. Gravity’s marketing suggested that its product could replace traditional medical treatments, drawing in consumers seeking relief without hefty medical bills.

However, this approach began to unravel when regulatory bodies stepped in. The FDA emphasized that while wellness products can provide support, they cannot be sold as treatments. A warning issued by Kickstarter about misleading claims compelled Gravity to alter its messaging significantly.

The Science Behind Gravity

While some argue that deep touch pressure stimulation can assist individuals with specific disorders like autism and dementia, research on the effectiveness of weighted blankets for broader psychiatric conditions is scant. Several studies indicate that these blankets alone may not alleviate the symptoms of anxiety or insomnia. Instead, they could complement a healthy lifestyle, though concrete evidence remains elusive.

The complex nature of mental health disorders leads experts to believe that deeper underlying issues often exist. Consequently, addressing symptoms without tackling root causes rarely leads to lasting improvements. Critics question whether the Gravity blanket is even targeting the right audience for effective use.

Conclusion: Making an Informed Decision

While the Gravity blanket may provide a sense of coziness and comfort, it’s crucial to approach these wellness products with a discerning eye. You don’t have to splurge on a high-priced option to experience the benefits of weighted blankets; more affordable alternatives are widely available.

If you’re curious to explore the comfort of a gravity blanket for yourself, feel free to give it a try. However, approach it as one tool in your self-care arsenal rather than a panacea for serious health issues. At the end of the day, no blanket can substitute for professional medical advice or treatment. Always use your best judgment and consult with healthcare providers when considering options for managing mental health.

Agility Bed: The Must-Have Mattress for Ultimate Comfort

Agility Bed e1507202893752

I was given a free Agility Bed for review. The Agility Bed  is a softer mattress that features a five zone latex system on the top layer as well as bio based gel foam. In between these layers are nearly 1,000 micro coils to provide extra support and contouring. What you get is a soft mattress that still gives you good support.

Overview of the Agility Bed Mattress

You can order the Agility Bed direct from their website. After placing your order it should arrive in about a week. When you receive it, it will come in a box like the one below. Even though this mattress has coils, it can still be compressed. In fact, mattresses bigger than this can still be compressed in a box and in my opinion are every bit as good as their store counterparts.

With the Agility mattress you get a 100-night free trial where you can sleep on it for 100 days and if you’re not happy with it before the 100 days is up, you can return it for a full refund. It’s free shipping to you and no return shipping fees either so it’s a clean break.

Agility Bed Box

Below is a video highlighting some of the features of the mattress and my initial impression.

Construction of the Agility Bed

Agility Bed Inside

  • Latex top layer is a 3.3# density and ILD of 14.
  • Micro coils
  • Transition Layer of 4# density visco and 12 ILD.
  • Polyurethane core that is 1.8# density and 33 ILD.

Agility Bed Mattress Construction

Pricing is as follows:

Twin $799
Twin XL $799
Full $999
Queen $1,099
King $1,299
Cal King $1,299

My Agility Bed Findings

The Agility Bed is a soft mattress and you sink into it right away. As opposed to a dense foam mattress that takes a while for you to sink in, this mattress will instantly cradle you and spring back. What makes this possible is two things, the top layer of zones latex and the microcoils underneath. Check out the video below to see how each layer reacts.

The microcoils don’t look like they are doing much and individually they really don’t, but in aggreggate, they all work together to give you subtle support. They also add to the breathability of the mattress. Instead of using an extra layer of transition foam, the micro-coils act as a transition layer while the latex on the top layer serves as the comfort layer.

The foam underneath the microcoils is dense and will then allow the coils above to sink as necessary where they get the most pressure so that you don’t get too much pushback from the coils system.

Here’s a video showing motion transfer on the Agility Bed using my bowling balls. This was done at the center of the mattress. Keep in mind that since the top layer is a zoned latex system each part of the mattress will have a different firmness. I dropped the bowling ball at the middle of the mattress where your hips would be. Your midsection is the heaviest part of your body.

Usually a softer mattress means a less breathable mattress. That’s because as you sink into the mattress you have more material surrounding you. The Agility Bed addresses this problem first with the latex Layer. As you can see in the picture below there are holes in the latex. This is because the latex mold creates these holes and what you get is a very breathable top layer.

Underneath that are the microcoils which also create more airspace for heat to escape.

Agility Bed Latex

Here’s a video showing how well the Agility Bed can dissipate heat from the cover.

My Agility Bed Recommendation

The Agility Bed is an excellent choice for anyone, not just moms, looking for a soft mattress that is breathable and supportive. Given the construction of the mattress, it is fairly priced as well. This is one of the softest mattresses I have reviewed and it is hard to get soft, “right” but Agility Bed did it with flying colors.

I highly recommend this for side sleepers that crave a soft cozy mattress.

Are You Avoiding Being Diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

It’s estimated that 22 million Americans have OSA and 80% of them are undiagnosed. Why?

I believe that many of them know or strongly suspect they have OSA. Many of them have friends that have it or died from its complications. It’s generally known that Obstructive Sleep Apnea, untreated, reduces life expectancy. So what are the reasons people don’t get diagnosed and treated?

A lot of those people won’t subject themselves to the most common treatment, the dreaded CPAP machine with those god-awful masks.

It was like “a hurricane blowing up my nose.”

“Wearing the CPAP machine felt equivalent to sticking my head out of a car window going 30 miles an hour. And I just couldn’t keep my mouth shut for more than an hour to breathe through my nose.”

Stories like this are the norm:

“I have had two of these things and could never use them. The first one was prescribed about 13 or 14 years ago, when I was still married. I was able to wear it for a few weeks and I did get better sleep with it for a while, but then it became so irritating to me that I was tearing it off when asleep and then later it just kept me up all night if I tried to use it.

Later my doc ordered a different one, with a gel mask and some kind of humidifier attached to it. I think I used it once or twice and that was enough for me. I think there are pieces of it in one of my closets.”

Admittedly, CPAP treatment is far from ideal. CPAP compliance is often defined as using the therapy for an average of 4 hours a night for at least 70% of the nights, a level of usage that already seems like poor compliance. Even with that marginal requirement for compliance, 3 studies show that somewhere between 29% and 83% of patients are still not found to be compliant. For many undiagnosed people this certainly seems like a pretty good reason not to bother getting diagnosed.

Some of the big complaints relate to CPAP’s high pressure causing discomfort, wakefulness, claustrophobia, dry nose and dry mouth. Higher pressure is needed when one’s mouth is open because air escapes through the mouth lowering the air pressure that is needed to keep the throat open to prevent obstructed breathing. People have tried chin straps, but they cause problems with discomfort, temporo-mandibular joint and dental problems. If one’s mouth can be kept closed, the CPAP pressure setting can often be reduced, lessening many of the complications of CPAP.

This problem was actually solved many years ago, but nobody knows about it. It’s called the Chin-Up strip. Dale Miller is the inventor of the Chin-Up strip. He came to visit me to help him market his product. My name is Dan Cohen, MD and I’m the guy who launched the Breathe Right nasal strip. When Dale came to visit me I was too busy to help him, but I’m trying to help now.

Dale’s Chin-Up strip helps a lot of people that use CPAP. Why? It keeps the mouth closed so that the CPAP pressure can be lower and still be effective. The Chin-Up strip helps keep the mouth closed in a way that avoids the problems that chin straps cause. It is comfortable to wear and it does what’s needed – keeps the mouth closed so that CPAP pressures can be lower and still keep the airway open and unobstructed.

Having been so successful with Breathe Right, I know how important a simple, effective solution can be. If you have or are suffering with CPAP compliance, consider this simple easy solution. If your CPAP machine is in the closet, please consider dusting it off and trying it again.

If you think you may have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) please read the symptoms below and get diagnosed:

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Loud snoring
  • Observed episodes of breathing cessation during sleep
  • Abrupt awakenings accompanied by gasping or choking
  • Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • Morning headache
  • Difficulty concentrating during the day
  • Experiencing mood changes, such as depression or irritability
  • High blood pressure

OSA is a lousy disease to live with. I can certainly understand not wanting to live forever with those symptoms, but Chin-Up strips may help you overcome many if not all of the complications, dramatically improving the quality of your life.

Good luck, breathe and sleep better and live happier.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea? And, How To Treat It.

Sleep Apnea

Many people around the world suffer from sleep-related disorders. One of the most common sleep disorders is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (or simply sleep apnea) that affects at least one in fifteen people. While hundreds of people suffer from this condition, less than twenty percent get a proper diagnosis or treatment. When sleep apnea remains undiagnosed, it keeps getting worse and can also turn fatal sometimes.

Sleep is the body’s way of healing and rejuvenating from the day’s physical and mental activities, and lack of sleep because of disorders can affect the quality of everyday life. People who suffer from sleep disorders often feel lethargic and disoriented throughout the day and have trouble focusing on work or other activities. When this continues for an extended period, the person may be affected by high-stress levels and daytime sleepiness. Sleep apnea is a major reason behind all these conditions.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

There are several types of sleep apnea, but Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common. In this condition, breathing stops and starts periodically when the person sleeps. This happens when the throat muscles relax and block the passage of airway, making it difficult to breathe. The most important symptom of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is snoring. More often than not, all snorers suffer from OSA but are rarely ever diagnosed.

Causes and Symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

The biggest cause of sleep apnea is the blockage of the airway by the relaxing throat muscles. When these muscles relax, the passage of air is narrowed, resulting in impaired breathing. When this lasts for more than ten seconds, the oxygen in the blood starts to lower, and carbon dioxide starts to increase. The brain has a way of correcting the breathing by waking the person up for a brief moment. The person usually doesn’t remember this episode.

When this cycle repeats itself for several times every hour throughout the night, it prevents the person from getting the desired amount of sleep and causes excessive daytime sleepiness. Lack of concentration, tiredness, and lower levels of energy are some of the repercussions of sleep apnea. The sufferer often doesn’t remember the impaired sleep nor realize the problem.

There are several symptoms that may hint at obstructive sleep apnea. Some of these are:

Loud snoring: Most often, snoring that is loud enough to wake others up is caused by some kind of sleep apnea. Loud snoring should always be diagnosed and treated by a doctor to get to the root of the problem.

Daytime sleepiness: While daytime sleepiness can be caused by a lot of other reasons, if it continues for an extended period it may be because of obstructive sleep apnea and lack of nighttime sleep.

Waking up abruptly with a dry throat is another sign of snoring caused by sleep apnea.

Nighttime sweating and lack of concentration during the day are also symptoms that may be associated with obstructive sleep apnea. Morning headaches may be present along with these symptoms.

Mood swings, depression, and irritability can result from lack of proper nighttime sleep caused by obstructive sleep apnea.

Who Is At Risk for Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea can affect anybody, but certain people are at a higher risk. They are:

Overweight or obese people: Most people who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea are overweight or obese. When fat deposits around the airway, it blocks breathing and impairs sleep. This does not mean being thin reduces the risk. Anyone with any kind of weight may be affected by this condition.

People with a narrow airway: Whether you have a naturally narrow airway or have enlarged adenoids or tonsils, this could be a serious factor contributing to the problem. Surgery is usually required to correct this condition.

People with hypertension: High blood pressure causes a rise in diastolic and systolic pressure, contributing to sleep apnea, snoring, and impaired breathing.

Smokers: Those who smoke are at a higher risk of obstructive sleep apnea because smoking causes fluid retention in the air passage and causes impaired breathing.

Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Depending on the severity of the condition, treatments for obstructive sleep apnea include:

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP): This is known to be the most effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. CPAP requires wearing a pressurized mask over the mouth and nose while sleeping, to help keep the airway unblocked by forcing air through it. Although it takes a little effort to get used to the mask, it is a very useful treatment.

Oral Mouthpieces: There is dental equipment fitted to the mouth for correcting the tongue, jaw, and soft palate position for clearing the airway.

Surgery: The process of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty is used to minimize the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. This surgery removes tissue out of the airway but has side effects like pain and bleeding.

Laser surgery: This is a simple process to shorten the soft palate with the aid of a laser beam.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a treatable condition if diagnosed properly. If you have any of the above symptoms, and suspect that you might be at risk, consult your doctor for proper treatment and diagnosis to get to the root of the problem.

Organic Cotton vs Regular Cotton : What’s the Difference?

organic cotton vs regular cotton

We might not realize it, but cotton is the most popular fabric all over the world, and accounts for more than half of all fiber needs across the globe. To keep up with this demand, cotton growers resort to artificial means and excessive use of pesticides to make cotton grow faster. The products manufactured with this type of cotton tend to be full of chemicals and can cause allergic reactions to the skin.

Non-organic products that are grown with the help of chemicals and metals harm the environment too. The pesticides affect the soil and the water, damaging the natural resources in the process and disturbing the ecological balance. Regular cotton mainly causes soil loss and leaves the field unsuitable for growing other crops. The environment is harmed beyond imagination to produce just a single T-shirt!

Several people have become more aware and conscious about these problems in recent times. There is more attention towards environmental problems, leading to the production and popularity of organic materials. Organic cotton has been around for a while now, and is used to make premium towels, bed linen, and clothing. Products made from organic cotton are usually considered high end, and are generally more expensive than regular cotton products. The demand for organic cotton products keeps growing as more people become aware of their benefits.

Difference between organic and regular cotton

There is a world of difference between regular and organic cotton. Anyone who has used organic cotton products will find it hard to return to regular cotton. The benefits of organic cotton don’t just stop at the quality of products. Read on to find out the large number of benefits of organic cotton.

Purity of the Cotton

The purity of cotton fibers is judged from the way the cotton is picked. Cotton is either handpicked or machine picked. Organic cotton is completely handpicked, preserving the purity of every fiber and ensuring that no fiber is damaged in the process. Regular cotton is more in demand and supply, and is usually machine-picked to cope with the rush. This doesn’t maintain the purity of the fibers, and also damages cotton fibers in the picking process, leading to loss and wastage. Organic cotton products are softer than regular cotton because of the longer fibers. Being handpicked ensures these fibers don’t get weakened or broken, resulting in softer and more durable products.

Cotton Farming

Regular cotton farming starts with GMO or genetically modified seeds. They are modified to build resistance to bugs, but when the bugs become stronger, more pesticides are required. Organic cotton is made from natural seeds, and there is no use of pesticides or other harmful chemicals. Bugs are controlled with insects that kill the pests. As a result, organic cotton products are safer for the skin.

Regular cotton is grown on the same soil over and over again, degrading the soil quality, removing nutrients, and leading to unhealthy crops. Since these crops require more water, they are irrigated heavily, resulting in water wastage. Organic cotton is rotated from one soil to another, and the nutrients retain water for long, requiring less irrigation. This leads to healthier crops.

Weeding

The weeding process of regular cotton farming also uses chemicals in the form of herbicides that kill weeds. The use of such harmful chemicals affects the quality of crops, suck out moisture and nutrients from the soil, and also harm the farmers. Out of the total amount of pesticides used in farming, more than 25 per cent is used for cotton. These include highly toxic insecticides and carcinogens. Constant use of such chemicals can lead to serious diseases in farmers, and affect the neighboring environment. In organic cotton manufacturing, weeding is done by hand, hoeing, and different cultivation processes.

Manufacturing

Processing of regular cotton uses a large amount of chemicals. The use of heavy metals, chlorine, and chemicals dyes are not unheard of in the manufacturing of regular cotton. Even after washing the finished products, the residue of these chemicals remains and can cause serious skin allergies. Several people suffer from skin problems like eczema because of regular cotton products. Organic cotton uses safer alternatives to chemical dyes and whiteners. Natural or water-based dyes, peroxide for whitening, and other safer products are used to manufacture the finished goods.

Organic cotton is softer, hypoallergenic, and last for a long time. But the most important benefit is protecting the ecosystem, reducing wastage of water, and ensuring a safer working environment for the farmers and manufacturers. Organic cotton is a sustainable and eco-friendly option to regular cotton. Try it today to feel the difference yourself.

Anxiety is a common problem among people with high-tension lifestyles. For some people, it may be a normal part of everyday life, while for others it is a chronic problem that needs medical intervention. Research has found that with the increase in work demands and decrease in time for relaxation, anxiety is on the rise among millennials. While it may not always be a serious medical issue, it does tend to interfere with normal life.

There are several treatments for anxiety, including prescription drugs, aromatherapy, yoga, and other alternative medicines. But wouldn’t it be great if stress and anxiety could be relieved without ever having to resort to medical treatment?

There’s reason for stress and anxiety sufferers to rejoice. Relax and rejuvenate without any kind of medicines, simply by choosing a Gravity Weighted Blanket.

What is a Gravity Weighted Blanket?

Gravity Weighted Blankets are a specially designed blanket that is customized to weigh 10 percent of the user. This weight provides a gentle pressure, mimicking the sensations of being held or hugged, and is believed to offer relief from stress, anxiety, and sleep disorders.

The company states that the blanket can be used for sleeping and much more. Watching TV, reading, resting, or simply sitting around wrapped in a blanket will provide relief from stress and stimulate rest.

How Does It Work?

Gravity Weighted Blankets work on a system called Deep Touch Pressure Stimulation. Modern lives are busy and hectic, and the overload of sensory input in the brain often causes stress and anxiety. Gravity Weighted Blankets aim to offer a solution to this by providing gentle stimulation to the pressure points that help in relaxing the nervous system, reducing cortisol production, and increasing serotonin levels.

Gravity has been described as made from breathable materials to prevent overheating while you sleep. The inner shell is made from cotton and is stuffed with high-density plastic poly pellets. HDPE is a food-grade non-toxic material that is both heavy and soft, providing the right balance of weight and texture.

Gravity Weighted Blankets are customized according to body type and come in three weight options: 15 lbs for people in the weight range of 100 to 150 lbs, 20 lbs for those in the weight range 150 to 200 lbs, and 25 lbs for people weighing more than 200 lbs.

The outer cover is made from plush fleece, with the grid-like pattern evenly distributing the weight through the blanket and stimulating the pressure points. This ultra-soft blanket looks and feels luxurious, and is designed to provide you with the best kind of rest.

Benefits of Weighted Blankets

Even before Gravity came into being, the benefits of weighted blankets had been much talked about in medical science. There are many ways to relieve stress and anxiety, and stimulating the pressure points is one such way. It’s a lot similar to acupressure in the way it provides gentle pressure to soothe the nervous system and induce relaxation.

Weighted blankets have existed for some years now. Besides sleep, it also aids relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, nervous system disorders, and autism. In fact, parents of children with autism have always loved the calming effects of weighted blankets. Anyone who has ever loved the way a hug makes them feel will love the feeling of a weighted blanket.

Four important benefits of a weighted blanket are:

It Promotes Sleep

Weighted blankets have been found to help with sleep disorders. By increasing the levels of serotonin and melatonin in the body, stress is reduced, and sleep is promoted. The brain has been found to calm under the weight of something heavy, and a weighted blanket makes use of this for soothing the nerves and promoting better sleep.

It Improves Focus

Deep Touch Pressure Stimulation has been found to reduce sensory overload, thereby reducing self-stimulatory behaviors and improving concentration and focus. This measure is highly beneficial in autistic children who tend to lack attention and engage in behaviors like fidgeting.

It Reduces Anxiety

Weighted blankets can effectively calm the sympathetic nervous system, reduce anxiety and nervous behaviors. Along with the calming of anxiety, weighted blankets have also been found to be useful in taming obsessive-compulsive disorders.

It Relieves Depression

With the decrease in cortisol and increase in melatonin, stress and anxiety drop, resulting in the effective control of depressive symptoms. Weighted blankets improve mood and focus, and help in providing relief to people with depression. Additionally, people with mania, paranoia, and trauma have also been found to improve when using a weighted blanket.

Harmful Effects of Weighted Blankets

Weighted blankets are harmless, and have no side effects. However, caution must be exercised when using the blankets on children, and the right weight must be maintained. Blankets that are too heavy may stifle or suffocate the child.

Gravity weighted blanket is a breakthrough product that redefines the use of clinically-backed deep touch pressure stimulation. Whether you or someone you know suffer from anxiety, stress, or sleep-related disorders, Gravity may be the solution that provides relief without having to visit the doctor. Gravity blankets are large, offer a variety of weight options, and the HDPE is a material not usually found in other weighted blankets. Gravity Knitted Blanket

Gravity Knitted Blanket

Both gravity blankets and knitted blankets offer cozy comfort, but there are some key differences and potential benefits to consider when choosing between them:

Gravity Blanket:

    • Weight and Fill: Filled with microbeads or glass sand to provide deep touch pressure (DTP), simulating a hug and promoting relaxation.
    • Material: Typically made of cotton or fleece blends.
    • Benefits: Studies suggest DTP can improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, and alleviate symptoms of conditions like restless legs syndrome and insomnia.
    • Drawbacks: Can be hot and heavy, especially for side sleepers or those who tend to run warm. Some users find the feeling of microbeads less comfortable than knitted textures.

Knitted Blanket:

    • Weight: Can be weighted or non-weighted. Weighted knitted blankets typically use glass sand or polyester pellets for filling.
    • Material: Often made from soft natural fibers like wool, alpaca, or cotton.
    • Benefits: Breathable and temperature-regulating, making them suitable for all seasons. The knit texture can be very soft and soothing.
    • Drawbacks: Non-weighted versions lack the DTP benefits of traditional gravity blankets. Weighted knitted blankets may be more expensive than traditional gravity blankets.

Benefits of Chunky Knit Weighted Blankets:

    • Combines the benefits of both: Chunky knit weighted blankets combine the deep pressure stimulation of a gravity blanket with the breathability and comfort of a knitted blanket.
    • Improved airflow: The open-knit design allows for better circulation, preventing overheating that can happen with traditional gravity blankets.
    • Softer feel: The use of natural fibers like bamboo or wool can create a more luxurious and cozy feel compared to microbead-filled blankets.
  • Aesthetic appeal: Many chunky knit blankets have a stylish and trendy look, unlike traditional gravity blankets.
A person is lying inside a black, sleeping bag-like device on a sofa in a modern, well-lit room, reminiscent of the comfort provided by Gravity Blankets. The device is plugged into a small control unit. A dining table with chairs is visible in the background.

The Gravity Infrared Blanket is a unique product that combines the benefits of a traditional weighted blanket with infrared heat therapy. Here’s a breakdown of its features and what makes it stand out:

Features:

    • Weighted: Just like a regular gravity blanket, it applies deep touch pressure (DTP) to simulate a hug and promote relaxation.
    • Infrared heating: Uses far-infrared (FIR) panels to emit invisible, gentle heat that penetrates deep into your muscles and tissues.
    • Temperature control: A handheld controller allows you to adjust the heat from 40°C to 65°C (104°F to 149°F) to find your perfect comfort level.
    • Materials: The exterior is made of PU leather for easy cleaning, while the interior is waterproof and non-toxic.
    • Size: Suitable for users up to 196cm tall and 150kg in weight.

Unique benefits:

    • Combines deep relaxation and heat therapy: This combination is claimed to offer enhanced benefits like improved sleep quality, pain relief, muscle recovery, detoxification, and stress reduction.
    • More versatile than a traditional sauna: You can enjoy the benefits of a sauna experience from the comfort of your own home without having to sit up in an enclosed space.
    • Targeted heat: Some models come with detachable heating zones for focusing the heat on specific areas, like your back or neck.
    • Sauna-like benefits: Similar to a sauna, FIR therapy may help improve circulation, boost the immune system, and alleviate skin conditions.

Is it unique?

While the combination of weighted blanket and infrared heating is certainly innovative, there are a few other brands offering similar products. What makes Gravity’s Infrared Blanket stand out includes:

    • 30-day trial: Gravity offers a generous trial period to let you try the blanket at home and see if it’s right for you.
    • Accessories: They offer an Experience Kit with additional items like sweat-absorbing towels, a headband, and cleaning spray.
  • Brand reputation: Gravity is a well-established brand known for its high-quality weighted blankets.

Gravity Blanket Complaints

Gravity blankets are highly popular, but they certainly aren’t perfect. Here are some common complaints users have shared:

Heat and Weight:

    • Too hot: Many users find traditional gravity blankets to be quite warm, especially for side sleepers or those who tend to run hot. The microbead filling can trap heat, making it uncomfortable in warmer weather.
    • Weight discomfort: While the weight is intended to be comforting, some users find it too heavy and constricting, leading to difficulty moving around or feeling trapped. This can be especially problematic for people with claustrophobia or anxiety.
    • Uneven weight distribution: Some blankets have been reported to have uneven weight distribution, causing pressure points or feeling less snug than expected.

Other complaints:

    • Price: Gravity blankets can be quite expensive compared to standard blankets, even budget-friendly alternatives.
    • Quality: Some users have reported issues with the quality of construction, such as broken seams, leaking beads, or fabric pilling.
    • Washing difficulties: While advertised as machine washable, the bulky size and weight can make cleaning challenging for some users.
    • Not for everyone: Not everyone enjoys the deep pressure sensation, and it may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions.

It’s important to consider these potential drawbacks before purchasing a gravity blanket. Here are some tips:

    • Choose the right weight: Opt for a lighter weight if you tend to run hot or are new to weighted blankets.
    • Material matters: Consider breathable fabrics like cotton or bamboo if you’re concerned about overheating.
    • Check reviews: Read user reviews from various sources to get a sense of common complaints and brand quality.
    • Order from a reputable retailer: This ensures you have good customer service and return options if needed.
  • Consider alternatives: Chunky knit weighted blankets can offer similar benefits with better breathability and a softer feel.

Top 6 CPAP Alternatives to Alleviate Snoring

Cpap Alternatives
What are the CPAP Alternatives for Sleep Apnea? Sleep apnea is a common problem that affects over 18 million people around the world. More often than not, sleep apnea isn’t recognized, diagnosed, or properly treated. But when sleep apnea is detected, the go-to treatment is often the use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). This involves wearing a mask while you sleep, which supplies air continuously to keep the air passage unblocked and facilitate normal breathing. If you, or someone you know, suffer from sleep apnea, you must have used or have been recommended to try CPAP. Although a very effective treatment in dealing with sleep apnea, it often takes a lot of effort to get used to the mask. It causes claustrophobia, nightmares, dry and irritated throat, and nasal problems. Many people never get used to it, and several studies have found that more than 86 percent of sleep apnea sufferers never get comfortable with CPAP machines. While a good solution for sleep apnea, CPAP is definitely not the only treatment for the condition. With technological advances, several alternatives to CPAP have been invented. They are often minimally invasive and provide long term treatment for sleep apnea. Here are six alternative options for CPAP non-compliant people: Oral Appliances Also called Oral Appliance Therapy, dental appliances form the safest and simplest alternative to CPAP. This appliance is customized to fit the mouth of the patient and is worn only during sleep. Dental mouthpieces work like orthodontics that keep the jaw in position and enable proper breathing. This appliance is made and fitted by a dentist, so the patient, the doctor, and the dentist should work in close consultation about the device. Oral devices are portable, comfortable, and don’t have the side effects of a CPAP. They are also often cheaper than CPAP, and more convenient when traveling. Laser Surgery The piece of tissue hanging down the back of your throat is called the uvula, and most often, this tiny projection is the cause of obstructive sleep apnea. The condition can be treated by minimizing an enlarged or extended uvula with the help of laser surgery. While traditional removal of the uvula is complicated and results in a number of side effects, laser surgery takes less than 30 minutes and is generally less complicated. With the removal or minimizing of the uvula, symptoms of sleep apnea are controlled, and proper sleep is restored. Laser Tonsil Ablation When tonsils are the ones blocking the airway, reducing their size can often provide relief from sleep apnea and snoring. This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a laser to reduce the size of the tonsils and unblock the airway. The process takes around thirty minutes and is generally performed under local anesthesia. Compared to other forms of surgical procedures to cure sleep apnea and related symptoms, laser tonsil ablation has little to no discomfort, requires no hospital stay, and does not need the tonsil to be removed. Laser tonsil ablation is a common alternative to CPAP to treat sleep apnea as well as other tonsil disorders. Positional Therapy If a patient suffers from positional sleep apnea, then positional therapy is an effective solution. People sleeping on their backs, also called the supine position, often suffer from sleep disorders because of the obstruction of the airway. Positional therapy involves wearing a device that keeps a person on their side while they are asleep. This solution works only for those who suffer from mild sleep apnea that is corrected when they sleep on their side. For more severe cases, this therapy may not be effective. Acupuncture or Acupressure In a recent study, acupuncture and acupressure were found to be more effective than CPAP. They provide relief by stimulating the muscles of the upper air passage. This is a holistic method that aims to relieve sleep apnea sufferers without medications, devices, or surgery. However, this is again a procedure that works best for mild sleep apnea. For more complex problems, a more potent treatment needs to be followed. Radiofrequency Tongue Ablation If sleep apnea and snoring are being caused by an abnormal positioning of the tongue, then radiofrequency tongue ablation is a procedure that could provide relief. This procedure often proves helpful for those with an enlarged tongue that gets in the way of airflow. This minimally invasive procedure involves shrinking and tightening the base of the tongue with the help of radiofrequency technology, and usually takes less than thirty minutes. Sleep apnea, if left untreated, can lead to severe health problems, including cardiac issues and hypertension. While CPAP is still the most widely used treatment for sleep apnea, there are alternatives that are designed for people uncomfortable with the CPAP device. Even if CPAP isn’t for you, there are other options that can provide long-term relief from the problem.

Best Down Comforter

How Did Down Comforters Become So Popular?

Down comforters have been used for centuries, with the earliest known use dating back to ancient China. However, they became more widely popular in the Western world during the mid-20th century.

One reason for their popularity is their warmth and insulation. Down is a natural insulator, providing warmth without adding weight or bulkiness. This makes down comforters a popular choice for those who want to stay warm in cold climates or during the winter months.

Additionally, down comforters are known for their softness and comfort. The down clusters used in the filling are naturally fluffy and lightweight, creating a plush and cozy sleeping experience.

Another factor that contributed to the popularity of down comforters is their durability. When properly cared for, down comforters can last for many years without losing their shape or warmth.

Finally, the rise of the modern bedding industry has made down comforters more widely available and affordable. With the advent of online shopping, it is now easier than ever to find and purchase high-quality down comforters from a variety of brands and retailers.

Overall, the warmth, comfort, durability, and accessibility of down comforters have all contributed to their popularity over the years.

The only time you get for yourself is when you are sleeping. This is when you are free from your worries, stress, anxieties, and not to mention, exhaustion from a long day of work. Since this is the only time for you to relax, how do you make the most of it? Well, a great idea is to have a down comforter to cuddle up with. No matter what time of the year it is, a down comforter is sure to give you a relaxing sleep and make sure that you are well rested for the next day. What Makes A Down Comforter? A down comforter is made of three things: Construction: This refers to how the down comforter is made and sewn together. It is important to keep in mind that these comforters are filled with animal feathers. This may trigger allergies for some users. This is why different manufacturers have different ways to make these products. You may find that some comforters look fluffier and cozier, but they may not have been thoroughly sanitized – this is a major reason that allergic reaction may be triggered.  On the other hand, you will find other comforters that look and feel cozy and luxurious, and are also hypoallergenic. It all comes down to how the manufacturer constructed the comforter. Fill: This refers to the type of feathers and down that is used in the comforter. Needless to say, this is the most important component as it determines the comforter’s performance. There are two options when it comes to the fill that comforter manufacturers use – duck down or goose down. Comforters that have a goose down fill are more expensive than those with duck down. However, you should keep in mind that comforters with duck down provide an equal amount of insulation as goose down comforters. However, goose down and feather are larger and fluffier, so comforters with this fill are cozier and more luxurious and provide better performance. Fabric: The texture, quality and feel of a comforter are determined by the fabric that it is made with. Down comforters are most commonly made with four fabrics:
  • Damask: Outstanding quality that comes at a great price
  • Cambric: Uses basic weaving to provide excellent value
  • Batiste: Lightweight and provides high durability
  • Sateen: Offers a soft feel with high sheen
How to Choose the Best Down Comforter With the right comforter, you can add a special touch to your bedroom and have a soft, fluffy and luxurious bed to sleep on every night. So how do you make sure that you have the right down comforter? With a few tips in mind, you can choose the best down comforter for your bedroom:
  • Choose the right design and size: Before you start checking out comforters, the first thing you should do is figure out the size of bedding you need. For instance, if yours is a queen-sized bed, your comforter should be a queen-sized one too. However, you could also treat yourself to a king-sized comforter to extra comfort and luxury. A larger comforter also gives you that extra length and width for coziness and warmth during the cooler months. Comforters come in different designs that you can choose from as well. For instance, you will find some comforters with box-stitch pockets that are placed for holding down and feather fillings firmly in place, while others are reversible and colorful, which is superb when you want interesting accent pieces in your bedroom.
  • Choose the ideal weight: The best down comforter for, you might be a medium-weight quilt that can be augmented with extra blankets or an all-season type that comes with a mid-level tog rating. You may, alternatively, prefer a lightweight down comforter for late spring through early fall. You can also pick a winter-weight quilt for the colder months. To get the ultimate experience in luxurious sleeping, you might want to consider adding a featherbed to your bedding during the winter months.
  • Choose the best filling: Lightweight comforters usually contain a mixture of duck and feather down, which provides both warmth as well as cost-effective construction. Nowadays, there are also feather fiber, down fiber and down-alternative fillings that you can choose from. Down alternatives like foam work quite well with feather fillings and create a lighter, loftier comforter. If you suffer from allergies, you should consider buying a hypoallergenic comforter – these have a special down-resistant shell fabric that keeps the feathers firmly inside the quilt, thereby reducing your overall potential for sneezing.
  • Check out ultra-light down alternative comforters: As mentioned already, there are a few down alternative comforters that are made to feel like the real thing. If you cannot tolerate down, these blankets may be the best option for you as they still provide the luxurious, cozy experience you get from down comforters. Polyester batting or fiberfill pieces can give you the light, warm feel of goose down and feathers. Ultra-light down alternative comforters are hypoallergenic, naturally resistant to dander and dust and not to mention, conveniently washable and dryable.
You will have no problem finding the best down comforter for your bed, no matter what your personal taste or style. There are numerous amazing choices out there these days. Apart from the natural goose and duck down and feather comforters, you can also choose from a wide array of down-alternative materials that are excellent for people with allergies and other problems. Cool Mattress Protector

Below is a video that shows some of the highlights of the cooling mattress protector.

Benefits of the Nest cooling mattress protector.

Below are some of the benefits as listed from the Nest Website

  • Protects top and sides of the mattress
  • Liquid-proof yet breathable
  • Stops allergens and dust mites
  • Cooling
  • Fits mattresses up to 18″ deep
  • Industry Leading 100-night guarantee.

My Mattress Protector Findings

This mattress protector will sleep cooler than a conventional mattress protector and given the price it’s not that much more to pay. Below is a video shot with my infrared camera to show how quickly heat dissipates. I found this to be just as effective as the Malouf brand.

This is also waterproof and machine washable so you get all the benefits of a regular protector. When comparing the Nest protector to the Malouf protector, I found that the Malouf protector was a bit thicker and also more slippery. By that I mean your sheets slide around on top of the protector. This will lead to fitted sheets coming loose faster. Since it is thicker it will take away from the original feel of your mattress.

My Recommendation

I highly recommend mattress protectors in general because they not only keep your mattress clean and looking new, they also prevent dust mites from entering and reduce allergy issues. A major complaint with traditional mattress protectors is that they sleep hot. Really old or cheap mattress protectors will have a layer of vinyl which don’t breathe at all and trap heat. This mattress pad has a breathable membrane as well as cooling phase change technology that can keep you cooler than your original mattress.

There are now many mattresses on the market that have a cooling phase change cover built into the mattress, however, if you cover with a mattress pad that doesn’t have this technology or is not breathable, it totally negates the effectiveness. It’s better to get the mattress that has the most comfort for your needs then add something like this cooling protector if you find it is sleeping to hot.

The Ooroo Pet Bed is a foldable bed for your dog or cat. It’s a great choice for people that live in a small house or apartment that may want to get the pet bed out of the way or at  least make it smaller when company comes over. It is the most versatile pet bed I have come across in that it can serve as a piece of furniture for humans when not being used by your pet.

Ordering

You can purchase the Ooroo pet bed direct from their website. I comes in three sizes. Your bed will arrive in about a week from ordering and is shipped via UPS. Right out of the box you’ll find that it is shrink wrapped which would prevent it from getting water damage if your package was left out in the rain.

ooroo

Construction

The Ooroo is a foam dog bed that can be flipped just like the Ooroo Mattress.  I suppose this would also make a nice step for your dog if they want to get into your bed! Not sure why they would though since this one is nice and comfy. Maybe if you have two small dogs they could each claim a tier of the mattress.

Ooroo

Findings

The Ooroo is a little firmer than the Brentwood Home dog bed that I recently reviewed. The cover is also not removable. However this may not be an issue given the type of fabric used.  It measures about 5 inches deep.

Ooroo Depth

As I said it is a little firmer than the Brentwood Home foam dog bed. Below is an illustration of how it would handle motion transfer.

Dogs (most dogs) and cats don’t weigh as much as humans so having a 5 inch thick mattress should give proper support.  I like that this bed didn’t  creep up towards each end as some dog beds can do. Below is a picture of our dog, Dottie on the mattress. Notice it has a nice clean look.

Dottie Ooroo

The Ooroo foam dog bed is easy to fold up and looks great in its case. You can sit on on it when it is folded up. It measures about 12.5 inches when folded.

Depth Ooroo

You can make the top cushion lay on the floor when it is a dog bed so that guest don’t have to sit on pet hair. Or if you want to get fancy, just put it in the case it comes with. The case also has a handle for portability.

Ooroo Cover

Conclusion

The Ooroo is a top notch foam dog bed or even cat bed for that matter. What like about it is that it’s light yet supportive for my old dog and can be used as a spare ottoman when company is over. When taking some of these shots, I had to try and get my dog off the Ooroo, she really took to it. If you have a dog that prefers a little firmer bed, this is it.

Goose Down vs Duck Down: What’s The Difference?

Goose Down vs Duck Down

Goose Down vs Duck Down

Which is better – goose down or duck down? This is a question that is often asked in the world of bedding products. It is an important question to consider when you are looking for a down comforter for your bedroom. As you may already know, goose down has a higher value when compared to duck down. However, this depends largely on the product – for example, a high-quality duck down comforter may be better than a mediocre goose down one. It also depends on your specific needs and your budget. Let us take a quick look at a few things about the goose and duck down to find out which one is a better choice for you.

Is There a Major Difference Between Goose and Duck Down?

This is another important question to ask when checking out down comforters for your bed. The answer is no. Both types of down provide equal insulation, and they both share the same essential structure that makes down an incredible insulator. If there is a difference between a goose down comforter and a duck down one, it would be that the duck down blanket has about 87% of the insulating power that the goose down comforter has.

Goose down and duck down have the ability to maintain their warmth and loft for many years, maybe even decades, if they are well cared for. It does not matter which bird provides the feathers or down for your comforter. The secret is to find a well-made down comforter from a reputable manufacturer and take proper care of it to ensure that you always have a cozy and luxurious sleeping experience for many years.

Here is a look at a few important things you should know before deciding between goose and duck down:

Durability

Generally speaking, regardless of fill power, there is no major difference between the durability of goose down and duck down. Part of how durable they are depends on the down’s fat and oil content – there is an inherently higher content of oil and fat in some birds. Moreover, down, whether goose or duck, is an organic product and will vary from one season to another because of several factors including weather, bird condition, feed, etc. To ensure warmth-trapping – keeping the down resilient and pliable – there needs to be a certain percentage of fat and oil.

If the down is “over washed” during processing and an excessive amount of oil and fat is removed, it can become dry and brittle. This makes it easier to break down, which in turn decreases the fill power of the down. High-quality down comforters have properly processed down to optimize performance and durability, irrespective of whether it is goose or duck down.

Odor

As mentioned earlier, down is a natural product. Although a certain percentage of fat and oil is necessary to ensure its resilience and pliability, the presence of these substances also plays a part in the scent of the down. People with a highly acute sense of smell may notice a slight odor, even when the down is in the cleanest condition.

Because there is a difference between the feeding habits of goose and duck, there may be minor differences in smell between goose and duck down. This is due to the scent in the oil content, which is necessary to make the down resilient. You should look for a down comforter made with DWR-treated down – you will find that the odor of these products is minimal.

Higher Fill Powers

Birds, whether goose or duck, that are older more mature tend to provide down with higher fill power. When a bird lives long, it’s down cluster becomes more developed. Furthermore, to ensure that they achieve the fill power they desire, processors sort through large down clusters, small down clusters, feathers, etc. to produce down of a certain fill power and content.

Currently, the highest goose down fill power is roughly 1,000 FP. However, this is available in very limited quantities, and usually at extremely high prices. Comparatively, the highest-end and most expensive down, Eider duck down has an anecdotal rating of up to 1,200 FP. The more common fill power range for goose down and duck down is between 450 and 850 FP. As a result of improvements in the sorting process that filters out extra small down clusters and fibers, high-end 850-FP duck down has become more accessible in recent years.

Down fill power is an important metric in the textile industry, particularly when it comes to products such as jackets, bedding, and sleeping bags. This measure indicates the quality of the down, referring to the loft or “fluffiness” of the down and its insulating properties. Here, we provide an extensive list of down fill power ratings, each signifying a different level of quality and warmth.

  1. 300 to 400 Fill Power: This is considered the lowest grade of down fill power. Down with a rating in this range will provide a minimal amount of warmth and loft. While it is the least expensive, it is also the least efficient in terms of insulation.

  2. 400 to 500 Fill Power: This range signifies a medium grade of down. Products with this fill power are warmer and loftier than those in the 300 to 400 range. This down is commonly found in mid-range bedding and clothing.

  3. 500 to 600 Fill Power: This is a good quality level of down, often found in quality outerwear and comforters. These products provide a nice balance of warmth, loft, and value.

  4. 600 to 700 Fill Power: This range represents high-quality down. It offers superior loft and insulation, meaning you’ll stay warm without the bulk. Products in this range are often considered premium, commonly found in high-end outerwear and bedding.

  5. 700 to 800 Fill Power: This is excellent quality down, providing outstanding warmth with minimal weight. It’s often found in premium outerwear and luxury bedding. It is highly compressible, making it ideal for activities like backpacking where weight and space are at a premium.

  6. 800 to 900 Fill Power: This is an exceptional grade of down, used in the highest quality jackets, comforters, and sleeping bags. It offers the highest loft and the best insulation to weight ratio.

  7. 900 to 1,000 Fill Power: This is the highest quality down available on the market. It’s extremely rare, incredibly lightweight, and offers unparalleled warmth and loft. Products with this rating are often very expensive, given their top-tier quality and performance.

Each of these fill power ratings denotes a distinct level of quality and performance, providing consumers with a range of options to best suit their needs and preferences. When making a purchase decision, one must consider factors such as intended use, budget, and personal comfort to choose the appropriate fill power.

Color

Goose and duck down are both available in white and mottled grey. If you look at things from a historical point of view, the bedding industry desires white-colored down more, which is mainly due to the fact that manufacturers commonly use white in bedding fabric and prefer to hide the presence of down. Apart from a visual difference, white and grey colored down do not have a difference in performance – meaning that one is not warmer or more durable than the other.

The Conclusion

Both goose and duck down can insulate equally efficiently when you take variables such as quality of fill, fill power, processing, etc. into account.  Down quality has a direct connection to everything from the bird’s feed during its lifetime, to the length of its life, to the method of washing that is used in processing.

When you are looking for a great down comforter, you will need to choose between, goose and duck down. It is a good idea to know what goes into the manufacturing process to make sure that you make the best choice. Keep in mind that although goose down is considered superior to duck down, there are countless high-quality duck down comforters available in today’s market. They are, more often than not, more affordable and you get the same insulation that a goose down comforter provides.

Whether you choose goose or duck down, make sure that you pick the best quality down comforter for your bed. You can have a cozy, luxurious sleeping experience and make sure that you get restful, relaxing sleep every night, no matter what time of the year.

Goose Down vs. Duck Down FAQ

1. What is the difference between duck and goose down?

Duck and goose down are both excellent insulators, but they have slight differences in their structure. Goose down clusters are generally larger, meaning they have a higher “loft” or fluffiness, which translates into more insulating capacity. Duck down, on the other hand, is a bit smaller and less fluffy, but it’s also typically more readily available and cost-effective.

2. Is goose down warmer than duck down?

Goose down tends to have a higher fill power than duck down, meaning it can trap more air and, thus, provide more insulation. However, the warmth of the down also depends on the fill power – the higher the fill power, the warmer the product. Hence, a high fill power duck down can be warmer than a low fill power goose down.

3. Which is more expensive, duck or goose down?

Generally, goose down is more expensive than duck down. This is due to the larger cluster size of goose down and its superior insulating properties. The rarity of high fill power goose down also contributes to its higher cost.

4. Are there any allergy differences between duck and goose down?

The risk of allergies to either duck or goose down is relatively low, and the difference between the two is negligible. Most allergies associated with down products are usually caused by dust particles left in the down, not the down itself. High-quality down, both duck and goose, are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized, which significantly minimizes allergy risks.

5. Is there a difference in smell between duck and goose down?

Both duck and goose down have natural odors, but these should not be strong or unpleasant if the down is cleaned properly. If there is a noticeable smell, it usually indicates that the down is not thoroughly cleaned or has been exposed to damp conditions. Some people may find a slight difference in smell between duck and goose down, but this is highly subjective and usually unnoticeable in well-maintained products.

6. Is there a difference in durability between duck and goose down?

When properly cared for, both duck and goose down products can last for many years. Their durability is more related to the quality of the down, the construction of the product, and how it’s maintained rather than the type of down used.

Ojai Mattress: Stunning Quality at an Unbeatable Price

Ojai Mattress

You can no longer buy the Brentwood Home Ojai mattress. It was discontinued in 2022.

Brentwood Home has replaced the Ojai mattress with the Cypress mattress. The Cypress mattress is a similar mattress, but it is made with different materials and has a different construction.

If you are interested in buying a memory foam mattress from Brentwood Home, I recommend that you check out the Cypress mattress. It is a good quality mattress that is available in a variety of firmness and height options.

The Ojai Mattress is a latex and foam mattress from Brentwood Home with a Tencel fabric cover. I rate this mattress to be a medium feel. People looking for a more plush mattress with sink should consider the Oceano or Cedar mattress instead.  Brentwood Home now has three flagship mattress which are the Ojai, Oceano and Cedar. Each has a unique feel and story but all exude the quality and craftsmanship that Brentwood Home has become known for.

Overview of the Ojai Mattress

The Ojai mattress is sold exclusively through the Brentwood Home website. The mattress comes with a 120 night trial period where you can try it out in your home and if you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund. The way returns work is that you would donate the mattress to a local charity and then email your donation receipt to Brentwood Home for a full refund. There are no shipping charges and no return charges either. It’s a clean break.

The Ojai Mattress retails as follows:

Twin: $795
Twin XL: $859
Full: $995
Queen: $1,195
King: $1,395
CA King: $1,395
Split King: $1495

This makes the Ojai the most affordable mattress of their three offerings.

Here’s a video of me on the Ojai explaining some of the features of the mattress. This is one of the few mattresses on the market that has foam, springs, latex, and tufting. Lots of value here.

Construction of the Ojai Mattress

Ojai Mattress Construction The Ojai is a fairly simple construction but Brentwood uses quality materials throughout.

The cover is made with Tencel fabric. The main benefits of Tencel are that it is more breathable and moisture absorbent than cotton and less prone to wrinkles. Tencel has a soft, silky feel which makes it an ideal cover for a mattress.

The fire barrier is made with hydrated silica sand.

The cover is also made with New Zealand wool which helps to regulate temperature. If you have ever worn wool socks, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Under that, you will find a 3-inch layer of cooling gel memory foam which provides the pressure relief.

Under that is a layer of latex for a little bit of bounce making the mattress easier to move around on.

Another signature of the Brentwood lineup is that this mattress is hand-tufted. This reduces the need for extra glue to keep the layers of material together. Here’s a photo fo the tufting. Not only does this look great but it serves a purpose and is not something most mattress companies offer, especially at this price point.

Ojai cover hand tufted

This mattress is backed by a 25 year limited warranty. Many online brands aren’t even over 2 years old. Brentwood has been in business making mattresses for over 30 years so a warranty like this carries weight.

My Ojai Mattress Findings

This mattress will feel more like a quality traditional mattress than a typical memory foam mattress. I think that’s because they use latex and hand-tufting which tightens up the mattress and doesn’t allow you to sink into it too much.

Here’s a photo of my bowling ball on the mattress to illustrate sinkage.

Ojai Mattress Sink

This mattress is super easy to move around on. As you can tell from the video above you are going to sleep more “on” than “in” this mattress.

Here’s a video showing how much motion transfer you can expect. I expected a bit more than this but I think with the tufting along with the 3 inches of gel foam you get good energy absorption.

Couples shouldn’t have to worry about waking each other up on this mattress during the night.

Here’s a video showing heat dissipation using my thermal camera. This is the only Brentwood Home mattress with a Tencel cover and it seems to draw heat away faster than the others.

My Ojai Mattress Recommendation

The Ojai is the perfect mattress for someone looking for a medium firm mattress with a touch of luxury. This mattress looks amazing and feels great for someone seeking a firm and supportive base. At this price point, you would be hard-pressed to find the materials and construction in a similar mattress.

With a 120 night free trial period I think people seeking a firmer supportive mattress owe it to themselves to give this one a try. It deviates from the typical 3 layer foam offering found all too often and offers a feel you won’t find anywhere else.

Tango Mattress: Stunning Comfort with Two Choices to Love

Tango Mattress Review

The Tango Mattress is a two sided mattress where one side is soft and the other is firm giving the customer the option to choose the firmness they prefer. There is a significant difference in firmness between the two sides as well. Tango uses two cooling technologies within the mattress, the combination of phase change material in the cover and cooling gel in the surface layer will help pull heat away from the body keeping you comfortable throughout the night. The mattress is easy to flip for a different firmness and very enticing if you are unsure if a soft or firm mattress is right for you. This also would make an excellent mattress for a guest room where guests may have different firmness preferences.

Overview of the Tango Mattress

The Tango mattress retails for $949 and comes with a 120 night free trial. According to Tango’s website, their team has worked on some of the largest and most successful mattress brands and brings that experience to the Tango mattress. Having tried both sides of the Tango, I think that they are spot on with firmness levels for the soft people and the firm people. It’s rare to find that people like a mattress too extreme on a particular end of the spectrum.

The mattress comes shipped in a box like the one below and should arrive about 5 days after placing your order.

Tango Mattress Box

Upon unboxing you’ll find a special suprise, a pair of Tango branded sox.

Tango Sox

Below is a video of me with the Tango mattress. In this video I am on the soft side.

Tango Mattress Construction

The Tango mattress is build differently than most online mattresses in that there is a support core in the center of the matress. From there you get a transition layer of varying density on both sides with a comfort layer with one side firmer and the other softer. The picture above shows the soft side on top.

As far as I can tell the mattress has gel memory foam for cooling.

My Tango Mattress Findings

The Tango mattress has a unique feel on each side. I personally prefer the softer side but the firm side still offers good pressure relief as it is an all foam mattress.

To start, let’s take a look at how much sink you will get with each side of the mattress. Here’s a picture of my 16lb. bowling ball on the soft side.

Tango Mattress Soft Side

Below is a photo of sinkage on the firm side of the Tango.

Tango Mattress Firm Side

These pictures really don’t do justice to the feel as with more weight you will find a much more considerable difference between the two sides.

Here’s a video illustrating how each layer reacts. Again the top layer is the soft side.

There is little to no motion tansfer on this matress as well. The video below shows me dropping a bowling ball on the soft side of the Tango mattress.

In terms of heat retention, you can expect it to sleep like a typical online foam mattress. Tango does have a few cooling technologies to help you sleep cooler. The cover is infused with Phase Change Material and both sides have cooling gel memory foam at the surface, both of these materials work  together to pull heat away from the body. I think feel and comfort trumps sleeping hot as there are other ways to address that.

Here’s a video illustrating heat retention on the Tango mattress.

My Tango Mattress Recommendation

There are other two sided mattress options online but the Tango so far is the most convenient in terms of switching sides. You just flip the mattress over. I also found that the Tango is a bit better than other two sided mattresses in terms of pressure relief. Tango is a great option for  anyone who is uncertain which comfort they prefer as it has two great options in one.  it is also perfect for a guest bedroom as if gives your  guest the option to sleep on a soft or firm mattress with a simple flip.

Tango gives you a 120 night trial so you have plenty of time to test each side, chances are you will really like one of them as Tango’s team is made up of sleep experts who have a lot of experience in the industry and  understand what customers want in a mattress.

Purple vs Nectar Mattress Two Totally Different Feels. See Why!

NectarvsPurpleWhich is Right for You

The Purple and Nectar mattresses are two very popular mattresses online. Interestingly, they are also completely different feels. In this post we break down the key differences between the Purple and Nectar mattress so that you can make a more informed decision about which is best for you.

Let’s start with the purchase process. Both can be bought direct online via their respective sites. Both should arrive about a week after purchase however because these mattresses are in such high demand, they may arrive a bit later than a week.

Each have a generous trial period although Nectar has a 365 day trial period while Purple has a 100 night trial.

Each also has a good warranty period. Purple has a 10 year warranty while Nectar advertises a lifetime warranty. Of course with any warranty it’s important to read the fine print but after reading through them, Nectar seems to be the most generous here.

Construction of the Nectar Mattress

The Nectar mattress is an all foam mattress. Below is a graphic that shows all the layers.

Compare that with the specs of the Purple mattress

  • The top layers is a 2′ hyper elastic ploymer also know as the “smart grid”.
  • The midle layer is 3.5 inches of polyurethane foam.
  • The base layer is made of 4 inches of a polyurethane foam which is a standard foam mattress base.

Purple Layers

In terms of motion transfer the Nectar does a better job in that it absorbs motion much better. Here are a few videos to illustrate the point.

First the Nectar Sleep Mattress

And now the Purple Mattress

Which sleeps cooler, Nectar or Purple?

Although the Nectar is treated with a phase change cooling material at the top cover, the Purple has the edge here as heat will pass right through the polymer grid. This makes it a top pick for hot sleepers.

In terms of cost, a queen size Nectar retails for $795 while the Purple costs $999 a significant difference in price.

Who should buy a Nectar Bed?

I recommend the Nectar mattress for people that want the ultimate in pressure relief. This mattress will contour extremely well. If you find your current mattress is leaving you with aches and pains in the moring, this mattress should cure that.

People that are looking for a good deal will be hard pressed to do better than the Nectar. It is one of the best priced mattresses online.

Finally, if your partner tends to wake you up at night from their tossing and turning, the Nectar will put a stop to that. You won’t feel a thing due to the high density foams used in the Nectar mattress.

Who Should buy a Purple Mattress?

Again, hot sleepers will find immediate relief with the Purple mattress. It is basically temperature neutral in that it really doesn’t trap heat. The top layer grid allows air to freely pass through.

I also tend to recommend the Purple mattress to heavier sleepers. We find at the Yawnder store in Minneapolis that heavier people respond well to the Purple and it gives them the right amount of support.

Finally, people that have tried tradtional foam and coil mattresses but are still unsatisfied owe it to themselves to give the Purple a try. It’s something you really need to lie on to understand how it works and for many, it’s the mattress they have been seeking.

Nectar vs Leesa: Stunning Comparison for Best Sleep Quality

Nectar vs Leesa Mattress

In the saturated world of online mattress companies, two names have stood out prominently: Leesa and Nectar. Both brands offer direct-to-consumer products that promise a perfect night’s sleep, and each has amassed a dedicated following. But how do they stack up against each other? Here’s a comprehensive breakdown.

Construction and Materials

Leesa: Leesa’s flagship product, the Leesa Original, is an all-foam mattress constructed of three layers: a breathable top layer, a memory foam recovery layer, and a durable foam base. Their hybrid version introduces pocketed coils for additional support.

Nectar: Nectar Sleep is best known for its flagship memory foam mattress, which comprises multiple layers of foam for support, pressure relief, and cooling. Its core is dense foam for stability, and on top of that are layers for contouring and comfort.

Firmness and Feel

Leesa: On a firmness scale from 1 (softest) to 10 (firmest), the Leesa Original lands at about a 6, giving it a medium-firm feel. The combination of foam layers offers both support and pressure relief.

Nectar: Nectar’s mattress falls around a 6.5 on the firmness scale, placing it also in the medium-firm category. With its memory foam composition, sleepers can expect a pronounced contouring effect, cradling the body more than Leesa.

Cooling and Breathability

Leesa: Leesa’s top layer is designed for breathability, aiming to address one of the most common complaints about foam mattresses: heat retention. Many users report a cooler sleep experience with Leesa compared to traditional memory foam mattresses.

Nectar: Nectar incorporates gel memory foam and a Tencel cooling cover to enhance breathability and temperature regulation. While it works to mitigate the heat-trapping nature of memory foam, some users might still find it warmer than innerspring or hybrid alternatives.

Price Point

Both brands position themselves in the mid-range category when it comes to pricing, but there are often promotions and discounts that can make a significant difference in cost. Generally, Nectar’s prices are slightly more affordable than Leesa’s, but this can vary based on size, model, and available promotions.

Warranty and Trial Period

Leesa: Leesa offers a 100-night trial, giving consumers over three months to decide if the mattress is right for them. If not satisfied, returns are free. Their warranty lasts for 10 years.

Nectar: One of Nectar’s significant selling points is its 365-night trial, allowing users to test the mattress through all seasons. Additionally, Nectar offers a “Forever Warranty,” promising to replace mattresses with defects for as long as you own it.

Our Thoughts

Choosing between Leesa and Nectar ultimately boils down to personal preference. Both brands offer quality products, but they cater to slightly different needs and priorities. Leesa provides a balanced foam feel with a hint of bounce, while Nectar leans more towards a traditional memory foam experience with deeper contouring. With their generous trial periods and warranties, both companies have made it less risky for consumers to take the leap into the world of online mattress shopping. If you’re in the market for a new mattress, either choice could deliver the sleep quality you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a Leesa vs Nectar comparison, this should make your decision much easier. In this post I break down all the pros and cons of each mattress to help you decide which is right for you. Both the Nectar and Leesa are great mattresses but each have a distinct feel that will appeal to different types of sleepers. There are no winners or loosers here, just clarification for you so that you get the right mattress the first time.

Overview of Nectar vs Leesa Mattress

The video below gives you a side by side comparison of both mattresses. As you can see in the video below, my bowling ball reacts very different on each of the mattresses.

Both of these mattresses come with a generous trial period.

Leesa free trial period = 100 Days

Nectar free trial period – 365 Days

Here’s the breakdown on prices of the mattresses

Leesa mattress price = $940 (Queen Size)

Nectar mattress price = \$795 (Queen Size)

Both of these companies offer discounts on a regular basis. Leesa tends to have a $100 off coupon making the queen size $840 and Nectar has $125 off with 2 free pillows making the price $670.

There is a significant difference in price here but not so much that it would be a deal breaker if one is better suited to your needs.

Leesa Mattress Construction and Materials

What gives the Leesa mattress that extra bounce you saw in the video is that they use a layer of Avena foam on top. The cooling comes into play in that it is convoluted (think egg crate shaped) so that there are channels for air to circulate.

Leesa Mattress Construction

  • 10 inches total height
  • Top layer is 2 inches of Avena foam, which is a polyurethane foam that performs like latex
  • Below that is a 2 inch layer of memory foam for extra comfort and pressure relief.
  • The base layer is a 6 inch high density foam used as the support base. It is the foundation of the Leesa matttress.

Nectar Mattress Construction and Materials

11 inches total height

Top layer is made 1 inches of quilted foam which is sewn into the cover. This helps with airflow and gives it an initial soft feeling

The support layer is made of 1 inch of 4lb. cooling gel memory foam.

The transition layer is 3 inches of 3lb. cooling gel to further the transition among the layers and provide even more contouring and pressure relief.

The base layer is 6 inches of high-density foam similar to the Leesa.

Nectar Mattress How its Made

It should be noted that the Leesa mattress is made in the USA while the Nectar mattress is made in China. However, both are CertiPUR-US Certified. Which means that the foams used in the mattresses are tested by a 3rd party to be free of harmful chemicals.

Benefits of the Leesa Mattress

The Leesa mattress is a very versatile mattress in that most sleepers will find it to feel great right away. The Avena foam will allow you to quickly sink into the mattress and will recover just as quickly. This means it is easy to move around on and even has some bounce as it behaves like latex.

The other major benefit of the Leesa mattress is that it is very breathable. The convoluted foam and density of the top layer means it doesn’t trap as much heat as other mattresses.

The Leesa also has a great Made in the USA story. The foams used in the mattress and the construction of the mattress itself are all domestic. They even have some great brand ambassadors such as Michael Phelps. Leesa has also been around a bit longer than Nectar. As of this writing, they will soon be celebrating their 3rd anniversary.

Benefits of the Nectar Sleep Mattress

The Nectar Mattress provides excellent pressure relief. This mattress does a very good job of conforming to your body. It provides great pressure relief and support at the same time. The quilted foam cover and layers of dense foam throughout make it very resilient mattress as well meaning that it should last a long time.

The Nectar mattress is also one of the more affordable mattresses online. Given the construction and great feel it has proven to be one of the best values out there. Although they don’t have any brand ambassadors, it has been getting good feedback despite some of the shipping delays caused by large demand when the mattress was first introduced.

Nectar or Leesa, Which is Best for You?

If you are on the fence about which mattress to choose here are a few points to consider.

If sleeping hot is your primary concern, the Leesa mattress would be a good choice. I found it to sleep a little cooler than the Nectar. However, the cover of the Nectar mattress is made with phase change technology that will draw heat away from you so it’s not to say that the Nectar sleeps hot, it’s just that the Leesa will sleep cooler.

I often recommend the Nectar to people who complain about lower back soreness. I found that the Nectar provides superior pressure relief and contouring. The dense foam used in the Nectar can address certain pain points in ways other mattresses can’t.

If Made in the USA and buying American is important, then Leesa is a clear winner. They even have a Team USA Gold Medalist sleeping on their mattress. Considering how fit Michael Phelps is, I’m sure he could sleep on almost anything. I think the true test may be an out of shape arthritic, elderly person as those are the people who will need a quality mattress the most.

If you are price sensitive, Nectar is a more affordable option. And affordable doesn’t mean cheap. In this case you get quality and value.

I think 1oo days is plenty of time to figure out if a mattress is a good fit although Nectar has raised the bar with a 365 night trial so you basically get a whole year. I live in Minnesota where the seasons are very distinct. Winter nights can get as low as minus 30 and summer nights in July can be humid and 90 so being able to test a mattress out in extremes can be important.

In the end, you really can’t lose with either of these mattresses. You literally have nothing to lose by trying them out in your home. This guide was created to save you time and get you to the right mattress the first time.

Analysis:

When comparing the two brands, it’s evident that while there are overarching similarities, distinct differences set each apart. For instance:

  • Construction: Nectar places a strong emphasis on memory foam, even in their hybrid model, while Leesa offers both all-foam and hybrid models with varying foam types.

  • Firmness: Both brands fall into the medium-firm category, but Nectar tends to be slightly firmer with its pronounced contouring memory foam.

  • Trial and Warranty: Nectar goes above and beyond with a full year trial and a lifetime warranty, which is notably more generous than Leesa’s offerings.

Ultimately, the choice between Nectar and Leesa will hinge on individual preferences, such as the desired firmness level, construction material, and budget considerations. Both brands have established themselves as reputable contenders in the online mattress marketplace, so potential buyers are encouraged to delve deeper into each model’s specifics to find the perfect fit for their sleep needs.
