Purple is known for it’s strange and innovative products so when they decided to release a more traditional type of pillow, I wasn’t sure what to think. This pillow doesn’t claim to be everything that it’s not. It’s customizable, yes, that’s true but not in a way that would bore you and while it is a more traditional take on the pillow, it doesn’t claim to be yet another down-alternative pillow, because it isn’t and it doesn’t feel like one. It doesn’t have to.

Overview of the Purple Cloud Pillow

Purple’s take on a more “Traditional Type” of pillow isn’t exactly traditional, which is why for Purple, it works. They don’t DO ordinary so there had to be something to this pillow that is uncommon. While it is a customizable or adjustable pillow, their approach is different when compared to how others in the industry choose to execute this type of product. Most adjustable pillows mean you pull a zipper to take out or put stuffing in. In Purple’s case, no amount of fill ever leaves the pillow. Instead, the firmness can be changed by pulling two zippers either open or closed. When both zippers are closed, the pillow has a firmer feel. When they are open, it has a softer feel.

For those who aren’t entirely convinced, the pillow comes with a 100-Night Trial and for those who choose to commit, it also comes with a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

It retails for $49 on their site and considering the brand and the feature of customization, it’s a really fair price. They could have asked for more, given the overall company reputation, but it’s nice they stayed within the realm of more-or-less middle class affordability.

Construction of the Purple Cloud Pillow

The Purple Cloud Pillow is composed of “interlocking denier poly fiber puff balls.” Don’t let the vocabulary sway you though. This is just Purple being unique and poetic with their wording. This is the industry standard pillow fill used in most non-down pillows that aren’t made of foam. Then again, I’m not an engineer and this poly fiber might be more special and specific to the pillow’s function than I’m aware of.

The cover is made of 60% Lyocell and 40% Nylon. It’s designed to be thermoregulating and moisture-wicking. It comes in only one size of 26” X 18” and while this was fine for me, it might not do the trick for larger people, as it is kind of standard. Too standard for Purple standards. It weighs 3.6 lbs and while that already sounds like too much, it’s actually crazy light. Light and fluffy like a cloud. I’ve tested quite a few pillows and this one is among those that weighed the least.

My Purple Plush Pillow Findings

I was absolutely stunned to find that the pillow isn’t just a gimmick. It seems too good to be true: a pillow whose loft is adjustable without needing to remove or add any filling. But how can that be? The best way I can explain the function of this pillow is to compare it to a closed bag filled with air.

The more air it has inside, the more compressed it’ll be so the firmer the bag will feel overall. The less air it has inside, the less compressed it’ll be so the softer the bag will feel if you were to lay or press on it. Despite the fact that this is a pretty simple concept that would make sense to most people, when it came to the application of it in the actual pillow itself, I was surprised the airflow, which is regulated by the opening or closing of zippers, made a difference in how the pillow felt. Structurally, it makes sense it would work but we’re not talking about a closed plastic bag filled with air, we’re talking about a pillow, something that requires airflow. I guess that’s where the engineers come in. So does it make a difference? Yes. Opening the zippers did in fact make it softer and closing them did make it firmer.

As for the other elements of the pillow and product overall, I give it an A+ all around. The packaging was discreet at the door but loud upon opening. I appreciate the branding effort Purple puts into their products (the bold color, the large font typeface, etc) and customer experience overall. The pillow cover material is lovely. It has a bright white color, a luxurious sheen and a soft pleasant touch. The zippers are premium quality, not something one has to fear will break easily.

I found it to be more supportive than a down pillow and more firmer than one too. For someone who needs solid neck support, I’m not 100% this will be enough but then again, I have more neck and shoulder spasms than anyone I know so I can’t deny that my disposition calls for some extra TLC.

As a side note, the pillow is FULLY washable which is a really nice feature.

My Purple Cloud Pillow Recommendation

After having slept on the Purple Plush Pillow for about a week now, I have to say that I like it quite a lot. The ability to customize the loft by way of pulling two zippers is pretty incredible for someone who has changing needs or if it’s meant to serve as a gift. I like a softer feeling pillow and this one suits me just fine. The only thing I’m uncertain of is it’s thermoregulation. I have slept hot a few nights in a row with this pillow so I’m not sure what to make of it. Unfortunately when it comes to that, that’s something in which results do vary but I do like the pillow and I’m not looking to give it away anytime soon.

My Logan and Cove Findings

In terms of firmness, the Logan and Cove is slightly on the firmer end of the spectrum. Even though it has a pillow top, you won’t sink into this mattress too much.

Here’s a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress. As you can see there’s not too much sink. This makes the mattress easy to move around on. The pillow top also has a quick recovery so you won’t get that stuck feeling.

In terms of motion transfer, the Logan and Cove is designed with a pocket coil spring system. These springs act independently which isolate motion. The added pillow top will also help isolate motion

Does the Logan and Cove Sleep Hot? You would think with a pillow top you can expect more heat retention. But that’s not the case with this mattress. It could be the eucalyptus fiber derived cover and the silk blend fill in the pillow top that help but I think it’s the fact that the pillow top isn’t too thick. Some pillow tops can be 3-4 inches thick which makes you really sink in and get surrounded. With this mattress you won’t feel the pillow top surrounding you too much.

Here’s a video that illustrates heat retention on this mattress. For context, it seems to behave similarly to many of the spring hybrid mattresses I have reviewed. Coil systems just breathe more than an all foam bed which helps tremendously.

My Logan and Cove Recommendation

There are plenty of all foam online mattress brands out there but this is the only Canadian brand that I have found that ships to Canada, comes delivered conveniently in a box and gives you a true pillow top feel. Poor HRV could be a sign of chronic stress which is very common these days. The Apollo regulates HRV through the Autonomic nervous system of which there is the parasympathetic branch which is associated with calm and the sympathetic branch which is our “fight or flight” response.

The Apollo Neuro device works by utilizing a technique called “touch therapy,” which involves delivering gentle vibrations to the user’s skin. These vibrations are specifically designed to activate the body’s natural relaxation response and help regulate the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which consists of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

My Apollo Neuro Findings

I was a bit skeptical of this device since it promises so much in a small package. The appeal is that this is a passive device that you basically just turn on and forget. Unlike meditation or exercise, you don’t have to dedicate time to it. I can use the Apollo while I work or watch TV. It doesn’t matter whether or not I focus on the vibrations for it to work.

There are buttons on the side where you can manually increase or decrease intensity. I keep my intensity at 80% or more but you may want to start lower until you get used to it.

You need to charge the Apollo through the USB port on the back of the device. I can go about 2 days before I need to recharge. Obviously, if you use it with higher intensity, it will drain the battery faster. The app will tell you how much battery life you have left so after some consistent use you will know how often you need to recharge. I keep the charging cable by my nightstand and just plug it in before I go to sleep.

How Does the Apollo Neuro Feel?

I can best describe the feeling as your phone constantly vibrating on your wrist. It took me a little while to relax and not instinctively reach for my phone. It’s a subtle pulse vibration that will vary depending on what program you choose. As you might expect, the sleep and meditation modes have longer, slower vibrations while the energy and focus modes have shorter more intense vibrations.

My two favorite modes are “Clear and Focused” and “Sleep and Renew”. The Clear and Focused program is great when you need to focus on a difficult task for work.

Normally when I know that I will have difficulty falling asleep, either because I’m anxious, excited or maybe had too much caffeine close to bedtime, I will reach for a sleep supplement with melatonin. This definitely helps but if I am really wired, I will usually wake up a few hours after falling asleep and may have trouble falling back asleep. I have been using the Apollo sleep program for the past week and it helps my body calm down which in turn will slow down any racing thoughts or anxiety I have. It’s a great natural alternative to sleep supplements. I would recommend using this for sleep as an addition to whatever other nighttime rituals you have.

The inner blanket is made up of 100% cotton and the filling is made of Glass Pellets that are Eco-Friendly.

The blanket is available in some awesome colors: Grey, Taupe, Charcoal, Navy, Pearl and Lilac.

Its dimensions are 48” X 74” as it’s designed to be suitable for one person only. Should a couple want to share, they’d need two separate blankets to be able to do so.

Blanquil Blanket Findings

I noticed that when weighted blankets first came onto the scene that people were paying a premium. While the premium cost still tends to apply most of the time, there are other options out there but remember that more often that not that you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s worth going for what seems like the more “extravagant” item, knowing that it’s made well and that it’ll stay intact. Sure, maybe you can find an item for a fraction of the price but can you imagine all of those pebbles inside the blanket coming undone? I don’t even want to picture it. I suggest working with a company that stands by its quality and that also is willing to replace any defective items. For those offering wholesale rates, they may not be able to make the same promise.

The Blanquil blanket is different from the first weighted blanket I’ve ever tried. For one, it looked MUCH nicer. It wasn’t just a bare weighted blanket. It had a lovely outer cover and it was great for the colder months. While traditionally velvet is made from silk, there are synthetic alternatives, like polyester velvet and that’s exactly the velvet we’re dealing with here when it comes to the exterior layer. The warm velvet cover that it came packaged in was definitely a nice touch. In terms of the consumers experience with the item, the quality of the texture initially leaves us with a very positive first impression.

Despite my initial impression however, there was one thing curios about it: it’s size. It’s smaller than the first weighted blanket I’ve tried. Much smaller. On Blanquil’s website, the blanket comes in different variations when it comes to color, fabric type, texture and weight but it all comes in the same dimensions.

If you’re looking for a weighted blanket for someone who is petite, either short or light in weight, or a teenager, this might be the best buy. It could also be a great item for those who have experience with weighted blankets but prefer a smaller one, either because they are one or both of the types of individuals I described above. Then there is another possibility: some prefer to only cover a certain part of their body with a weighted blanket.

For example, I don’t like my entire body being covered but that’s a personal preference. You might feel differently. Due to being prone to anxiety, I already have a feeling of heaviness that I carry in my chest on the day to day. That being the case, I like having blankets of this type sit below my waist. Can it reduce anxiety? Sure. But how it does so can also be a different experience for everyone.

Who else is this blanket good for? An average-sized individual (with regular weight or not too far from it) that sleeps with a partner. When I did sleep with a partner, my previous weighted blanket took up too much space. One with these measurements could have been the better alternative.

The shifting glass pellets that create the blanket’s weight have been getting a bad wrap. From what I’ve observed in the marketplace, most weighted blankets are designed with the same stitching pattern in terms of how large the separate compartments are next to one another. While it’s possible that something more well distributed could be created, one also has to consider at what cost? There is some potential in the marketplace to still take over the weighted blanket space but it’d have to address most of the major concerns. At the price that will require (a more intricate stitching pattern and/or a different material that provides the weight needed), it might as well be marketed as solely a luxury item. This weighted blanket from Blanquil is similar to other weighted blankets, in that all weighted blankets are known for this: they’re known for their weight, as that’s what they’re designed to do, carry weight, and they’re known for their shifting pellets. These pellets are small, round and subtle and of course they will shift with you, they’re supposed to conform to your body’s space to provide that “snug” feeling. They’re not made of metal or tin. The shifting of the pellets is not loud or as exaggerated as some reviewers claim.

There is one thing that rubbed me wrong however about this product and that’s the way it arrived. There was a piece of paper attached to the package with the word “DROPSHIP,” and I felt that made the item simply unappealing because it revealed to me that it’s not entirely original. I don’t know HOW a mistake like this can go unnoticed and I think better quality control really needs to be in place.

My Blanquil Weighted Blanket Recommendation

As a result of all of my digging, I was able to isolate the biggest complaint and that was that Blanquil doesn’t cover return shipping due to the weight of the product. This means that many people find themselves dishing out approx $50 to return the item but of course even that number varies based on where they live and where it’s being shipped back to.

First of all, it’s ridiculous to state that individuals can get a “full refund,” then expect those customers to happily pay exorbitant amounts of money to return ship your item. Of course they’re going to be pissed about it. Whether the consumer realizes the return policy before or after purchasing your product is irrelevant. That return won’t exactly fulfil the typical standards of what the majority knows as a “full refund.” When an individual has to pay extra to get that item back to you, that’s not a full refund. That extra money spent must then be negated from whatever you refund them. So to see things put in that manner, feels a little deceptive.

In terms of how this works for the company, it may be better to simply offer a non refundable item. That removes that problem from the equation entirely, the company maintains absolute transparency (“Hey, look. This is just the best we can do.”) and this way, every consumer is aware of what’s involved. It’s at least much more honest.

But there is still one more option. This is the way I’d do it:

Offer what’s called a “partial return”

Provide an already-paid-for shipping label

(Everyone appreciates pre-paid labels, they’re comforting. Even if we’re not getting ALL of our money back, we appreciate that a company strives to make the process less painful for us.)

Since the cost of most of the items listed on the website aren’t vast in difference, calculate the average cost of shipping per item and deduct this number from the total.
Bam!

I suggest that they do that or something similar because if the biggest complaint people have is your return policy, it’s something that needs to be addressed if you want people’s perception of your brand to change and be elevated.

By the way, if the most common complaint is your return policy, you should also consider that a compliment to the actual items you sell.

Oddly enough, you can also purchase the item through Amazon, where Prime members get free shipping and also free returns with this item, although that may vary depending on your location so be sure to double check.

Regardless of my criticism (and I do genuinely hope some of it is taken constructively), I do recommend this item. It’s a well-made high quality item.

I’m amazed at how inexpensive this mattress is. You can get a king size for under $500!

My Nighslee Mattress Findings

Below you will see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. There is just enough sink to properly address shoulders and hips.

The top layer is a gel-infused foam that has tiny holes for a bit more breathability. It’s not a night and day difference from other foams but it does help a little.

Here you can see each individual layer. This mattress is made in China. The layering is clean and well made. It recovered faster than I expected out of the box. Usually, mattresses shipped from China take a lot longer to recover.

Here’s a side view showing contouring again. The top layer is where you will get most of the pressure relief.

There’s basically no motion transfer with this mattress. It’s all foam and the top layer is soft enough to absorb the initial impact quickly.

Here’s another video showing how fast the mattress recovers and what you can expect for softness. Again, the top layer provides the majority of the pressure relief while the other two layers help with support.

My Nigshlee Mattress Recommendation

Although there’s nothing really groundbreaking about this mattress, what did take me a bit by surprise is what you get for the money. $495 for a king size mattress with this construction is about as good as you can get. There are other mattresses on the market with similar construction at this price point but the foam is not as good of quality and will feel much firmer. I expect this mattress to last just as long as others in the market for twice as much.

If you are used to sleeping on a medium-firm foam mattress and are looking for a replacement that won’t break the bank this is your mattress.

I sleep on a new mattress almost every other week and most of them are direct to consumer, online-only brands. Every now and then, I do get sent a review sample of a legacy brand such as Tempurpedic, Simmons or in this case the Serta Perfect Sleeper. Serta was founded in 1931 and is the largest mattress brand in the United States but the Perfect Sleeper brand was released 2 years before the Serta brand name was introduced. Many hotel chains use their mattresses including Hilton Worldwide and Wyndham Worldwide. They merged with the online brand, Tuft & Needle in 2018. There’s a lot to like about this mattress because they have almost a century of experience making mattresses and offer the same hassle-free returns as the online players.

The delivery company XPO logistics coordinated everything and it was very easy to schedule my delivery date and time window online. They also called when they were about 30 minutes away. It’s a good option if you don’t want to have to drag a mattress from your doorstep to your bedroom.

The cost depends on which model you choose. I received the 1 layer of memory foam version which retails for $899 in a queen size, this is their entry level model. My Serta Renewed Night Findings

I figured that this mattress may skew firm and I was right which is why I chose the plush model. The cover is quilted so you get an extra layer of pressure relief but even so, if you go firm, I imagine it will be really firm. The plush version felt more like a medium to me. Here’s a photo of how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sunk into the mattress. When you lay down on the mattress you will sink into the quilted cover right away and it will cradle you while the foam layer provides most of the pressure relief and the springs provide the support.

I slept on this mattress for about 3 weeks before writing this review and there are a few things that really stood out with this mattress. Let’s start with the CoolFeel Cover. It incorporates phase change materials that are 53% bio-based content. In my experience, most phase change covers have a sort of stick feel to them and almost feel wet. That wasn’t the case with this mattress. I didn’t know it had phase change material until I looked up the details. The HeiQ Vblock is an antimicrobial technology applied to the cover to keep it fresh and to kill 99.9% of bacteria on contact. Although I still recommend a mattress protector, it’s nice to know there is an extra layer of protection.

Although this mattress has springs, they are barely noticeable. I didn’t feel my partner getting out of bed at night or tossing and turning. I’m not sure why that it but it can be largely explained by their use of pocked coils. check out the picture below where you can see the springs. I had to cut into the foam border to access them. The foam border is used to create a firmer edge so you won’t roll off the mattress at night.

The third feature that stood out was the unique design of the foam layer. They call this the HexCloud Gel memory foam. It is designed for cooling and better pressure relief. I didn’t sink in like traditional foam and overall the mattress slept like a regular old-fashioned inner springs mattress without any foam. According to Serta, this new model of the Perfect Sleeper provides 40% better pressure relief than previous Perfect Sleeper models.

My Serta Perfect Sleeper Renewed Night Final Thoughts

Going with a legacy brand like Serta has many benefits. First, their free delivery into your house, 120-night trial, and free returns are the same or better than the popular online brands. They also have almost a century of mattress construction know-how. It was clear to me right away that they can add a lot of value to the mattress without adding cost. Since they are a manufacturer they can pass the savings directly to you, especially since they make so many mattresses to begin with. Normally phase change material, antimicrobial technology and a premium spring system would be an extra cost but you can get all this for under $900 in a queen size which makes it a phenomenal value.

I recommend the plush version of this mattress to people looking for a more medium feel. It has excellent lumbar support and really good pressure relief consider that they are only using one layer of foam. Because there aren’t multiple layers of foam on this model, it will naturally sleep cooler too. It’s definitely time to take a look at the Perfect Sleeper lineup again.

Upon opening the box you will find the mattress pad. This has good padding which helps mask the feeling of the tubes inside. If you really press, you will feel the tubes but when it is on your mattress and you are laying down you won’t feel them. Just know that the mattress will feel a little firmer since you are adding another layer to your mattress.

Underneath the matttress pad are the climate control boxes or Cubes as Chilipad calls them. These are the devices that circulate and condition the water for the pad. They aren’t that big and weigh about 5 lbs. each.

Ooler

Setting up the Ooler is super easy. After getting everything out of the box it looks a little intimidating but Ooler made the process foolproof by clearly labeling everything and creating parts that snap together so you don’t have to worry about water leaking out of the cube or pad during the night.

After unboxing everything, the first thing you want to do is put the Chilipad on the bed. Make sure that the hoses are towards the top of the bed as they will need to connect to the Cube which you will probably want up by your nightstand. You can put it at the foot of the bed as well, it really doesn’t matter.

As you can see below the pad comes with straps to hold it in place and keep it from shifting on the mattress overnight. I recommend putting this over your mattress protector for maximum benefit.

After you get the pad on, you will want to then connect the hose to the cube. Here’s a closeup of the tube. This snaps into the cube and you can hear a click to know that it is secure. These tubes also will not leak when you disconnect.

I set my cube to cool to start but it doesn’t matter if it is hot or cold. I bought some distilled water as recommended in the instructions. Distilled water will keep the cube cleaner longer and distilled water is cheap so I just went that route.

My Ooler Findings

I putt the chilipad to the test by making one side as cool as possible as seen on the left-hand side of this picture and the other side as hot as possible as seen on the right. I rand the chilipad for an hour on these settings before taking a temperature reading with my thermal camera. As you can see the cool side clocked in at 23.6 degrees Celsius.

Chilipade recommends that you use a blanket or comforter to help insulate the bed and get the best results. For my next test I let the system run with a comforter over it for an hour. In the video below you will see that it is an even starker contrast.

The chilipad remote is easy to use and it worked right out of the box for me. You will need to supply your own batteries though. The remote is fairly simple, it has an on/off button and then a hot and cool button. The temperature reading is backlit so you can adjust the temp in dark without having to turn on the lights.

How does the Ooler Feel?

The Chilipad was designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. That said, it did make my mattress feel a little firmer. The Chilipad will make noise at night as water runs through the system. This is similar to the amount of noise made by a white noise machine and something you will get used to after a few nights. I sleep with a white noise machine already so just turned it off and relied on the hum of the Chilipad. For people who aren’t used to white noise at night, this may take more of an adjustment. In terms of volume, I found it similar to the whir of a computer fan running.

This device heat up a mattress easily but the real benefit of the Chilipad is its ability to cool a mattress. There are very few options out there for hot sleepers looking for lasting relief from a hot mattress. Sleeping hot has become a growing concern with the rise in popularity of memory foam mattresses. With the Chilipad you get technology that will keep your mattress cool all night long. This means you should get deeper, more restorative sleep as you won’t feel the need to toss and turn all night.

My Zinus Mattress Findings

I slept on the 12″ version of this mattress for about 3 weeks. I think that the firmness levels skew towards the firmer end of the spectrum in comparison to other online mattresses I have tried. That said, if I had to choose again, I would have gone with the 14″ version as I prefer a plusher mattress but having slept on the 12″ gives me a better idea of the range of firmness that Zinus provides.

You won’t really get any motion transfer with this mattress either. It’s all foam so there’s no issue with that. In terms of sleeping cool, I found it to be more in the middle of the pack. There are other mattresses out there that seem to use more phase change material in the top layer of foam and in the fabric itself. However, keep in mind that this is only a temporary effect. Eventually, the mattress will start to retain some heat.

Zinus is the go-to brand for affordable mattresses. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better mattress at these price points. Zinus mattresses are made in China which is one reason why they are so competitive on price. The material in these mattresses are Certipur-US certified which means they have been tested to be free of harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde and heavy metals.

In short, if you are on a budget and are looking to get a mattress under $500 there are now quite a few choices on Amazon and other big online retailers. However, Zinus is an established brand that is big enough to ensure proper quality control and customer service. The Polysleep Pillow is yet another product in the galaxy of customizable pillows. It doesn’t look very different from other customizable pillows but what is different is the ventilated viscoelastic hybrid foam inside of it. Unlike many customizable pillows, this is not one that will leave behind any type of mess, being that you’re working with 4 separate pieces of foam to build the pillow to your liking. The first thing that I like about the pillow is that it doesn’t contain a lot of little pieces. This can get messy whether you’re taking out a lot of foam or even just a little. Polysleep has 4 different layers inside of it, each made up of its own layer of foam. It’s sold at a super reasonable price which is $59 USD and I do believe that you’re getting your money’s worth. It’s made up of a hybrid memory foam which means it’s a newer generation of memory foam.

Construction of the Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow comes in one size which is 19″ x 26″. Just from a quick look, it seems to be within perfectly normal industry standards. Some pillows can be too long or too small, almost as if by accident like they JUST missed the mark. Not in this case. One size for their pillow is all they need, especially with the intention it was designed for, such as ease of use and personal customization.

The measurements of the 4 layers are:

1 piece that measures 1”
1 piece that measures 1 ¼”
2 pieces that measure ¾”

The pillow has a 100% cotton sleeve on the outside, along with inner polyester microfiber inner layer to give it some volume and softness. It has 400mg of microfiber fill to give it that cotton-cloud-like luxurious feel.

My Polysleep Pillow Findings

One of the things that confused me the most was what Polysleep meant when they classified their foam as “viscoelastic hybrid foam.” I was reading that foam is either viscoelastic, making it a memory foam, or it’s not, making it a hybrid foam or something else altogether, such as latex foam. But as with most things we don’t understand, all you have to do is ask. I spoke with Polysleep and I was educated about how we were dealing with a newer generation of memory foam. Memory foam was initially invented in the 60’s and while it had some positive properties, it had some negatives as well. For instance, most memory foams don’t react well to temperature but Polyleep’s is resistant to temperature change. It also withstands wear and tear much better than original memory foam since it has better density. The foam density is 3 lbs per square foot. The term “visco” means water-like and it would explain why it had an interesting wet-but-not-really feel. As juvenile as the made-up term is, it’s the best way I could possibly explain it. Let’s not forget the other part of the word “viscoelastic,” which is the elastic part. This pillow is malleable, meaning you can roll it and fold it but it’ll also bounce back almost instantly despite the pressure exerted on it.

One big negative for me is that the pillow is not washable by traditional method. The outer cover of the pillow also cannot be washed but it can be spot cleaned and it can also be machine dried, however only at a very low temperature.

This is fine for people who can afford, and don’t mind, to replace their pillow every couple of months but for people looking to hold onto something for a while, I’m not sure it’s ideal.

While the concept of the customizable pillow experience is not new, their hybrid foam does seem to be.

One recommendation that I have for Polysleep, which could be seen as really appealing on the consumer’s end, would be to devise a “cleaning kit” or cleaning guideline book to go along w/ the release of this or any pillow. While I’m aware that a majority of foams cannot be washed in the traditional way most of us are familiar with (aka, soap + water), apparently memory foam + hybrid foams can be cleaned via alternate methods but I did not have a chance to inquire about theirs.

When it comes to these newly released generations of foam, the company engineering the material really have ALL the power in how the general public will perceive it. I am talking about more than a good slogan. There is an opportunity to educate people on how to do things differently when it comes to materials that quite simply just did not exist before.

My Polysleep Pillow Recommendation

When I first saw the Polysleep Pillow I didn’t think I would be impressed. I am usually all about clever marketing and I love how companies can get creative when they share products with the mass public but I wasn’t exactly impressed or moved by theirs. Being told that a pillow can cater to every personality felt a little silly to me but I do understand what they were getting at. If it were to cater to “every sleeper,” sure, but the wording didn’t gauge much of a reaction from me. Regardless of what the marketing campaign has to say, that’s a criticism to their marketing department, not to their pillow and definitely not to their engineering team.

It’s such a cliche but the pillow does speak for itself. Actually, I was prepared to dislike your product but ended up actually liking it. I suppose it’s easy to think you’ve made up your mind about something only to then have it beg you to reconsider. What can I say? You win.

My Haven Premier Mattress Findings

The Haven Premier has a quilted foam cover. As you can see in the picture below the quilting runs horizontally along the mattress. You can’t feel the ridges at all but it by stitching the mattress this way, it provides a more consistent feel across the mattress and prevents sagging. I put my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress to show how much it sinks. Most of the sinkage occurs from the quilted top layer and the top layer of comfort foam. This is also a thick fabric cover so it won’t wear down easily or tear but still stretches so that you get maximum contouring from the foam layers below. A typical 3 layer online foam mattress will have a stretch knit cover but it’s usually thin and is prone to tears.

This mattress really shines when you sleep on your side. It has great pressure relief for your hips and shoulders but not too much sink. I didn’t sleep hot on this mattress and was still able to change positions easily. That’s in large part to the 3 inches of buoyancy foam which is the top comfort layer of the mattress. It will contour and recover quickly and doesn’t trap as much heat compared to traditional memory foam.

I rarely sleep on my back but as you can see below even though you sink a fair amount into this mattress you are still getting good support. I wouldn’t recommend this for dedicated stomach sleeping but it is great for side and back sleeping.

Here you can see the different layers of the mattress. The blue layer is the buoyancy foam that gives this mattress its unique feel. When you pair that with the quilted foam in the cover, you get a more luxurious feel as opposed to a typical 3 layer mattress with a simple knit cover.

Final Thoughts on the Haven Mattress

This mattress easily justifies its retail price but when you take into consideration the massive discount it’s a steal. On top of that, Haven offers an 18-month trial. This is one of the longest trials for any mattress brand. You can try it out in your house for a year and a half and if you still don’t like it within that time, you can return it for a full refund.
