The Joy Mangano pillow, also known as the Comfort & Joy pillow, was a shredded memory foam pillow that was sold on Home Shopping Network (HSN) and Amazon. It was created by Joy Mangano, an American inventor and entrepreneur who is best known for her Huggable Hangers.
The Joy Mangano pillow was marketed as a versatile pillow that could be used by all types of sleepers, regardless of their sleeping position. It was also claimed to be hypoallergenic and machine-washable.
The pillow was initially very popular, but it soon began to receive negative reviews from customers. Some customers complained that the pillow was too soft and didn’t provide enough support, while others said that it was too bulky and difficult to adjust. There were also reports of the pillow developing a strong odor after a few weeks of use.
In 2018, the Joy Mangano pillow was discontinued. It is unclear why the pillow was discontinued, but it is likely due to the negative customer reviews.
Today, there are a number of other shredded memory foam pillows on the market. Some of these pillows are similar to the Joy Mangano pillow, while others have different features and designs.
It is important to note that not all shredded memory foam pillows are created equal. Some pillows are made with higher quality materials than others. It is also important to choose a pillow that is the right size and firmness for you.
There are a few reasons why pillows are advertised so much on HSN:
- Pillows are a popular and recurring purchase item. People need pillows to sleep, and they also like to update their pillows regularly to keep them fresh and supportive. This makes pillows a good product for HSN to sell, as customers are likely to come back and purchase again in the future.
- Pillows are a relatively low-cost item. This makes them affordable for a wide range of customers, and it also means that HSN can offer them at a discounted price, which helps to attract buyers.
- Pillows are a highly demonstrable product. HSN hosts can easily show off the different features and benefits of pillows on camera, such as their comfort, support, and durability. This helps to convince viewers to purchase the product.
- Pillows are a versatile product. They can be used for sleeping, relaxing, and decorating. This makes them appealing to a wide range of customers.
In addition to these general reasons, HSN may also advertise pillows heavily because they have a good relationship with pillow manufacturers. For example, HSN may be able to get exclusive deals on pillows, or they may be able to work with manufacturers to create custom pillows for their customers.
The Joy Mangano pillow has been selling like crazy over at Home Shopping Network. In fact, I couldn’t even buy one from the HSN site because they were still sold out and even as of this writing they are still sold out. Instead, I had to buy on Amazon. I couldn’t find this product on Amazon Prime so also had to pay for shipping which was too bad but I really wanted to find out if this product was something truly innovative.
Overview

Findings
A few unique details of this pillow are that it has memory foam clusters. It also claims to have a cool and warm side so you can flip the pillow to your preference. I didn’t notice any substantial difference in cooling between the two sides.
This pillow is 100% polyester with a 100% polyurethane foam fill. It measures 20″x 28″ wide and 4″ deep.
Here’s a closeup of the baffle edge side. The top side which is show is the “cooling” side of the pillow:
The opposite side has a knife edge:
I found the pillow to be too firm and too big for my sleep style which is more of a stomach sleeper. I also found it to be lacking in neck support in comparison to other pillows I have tested. Because of this it’s also not a very cuddly pillow. HSN has the pillow selling for $39.95 plus $5.95 shipping and handling. Somehow they came up with a retail value of $129.99. I also had trouble getting this pillow in a standard pillow case and when I finally did, it just looked awkward and out of shape.
Conclusion
There are so many pillow choices on the market and I really don’t think this pillow contributes anything new. In my opinion it didn’t seem to sleep cooler than any “non cooling” pillows I have reviewed. I found it to sleep hotter than other cooling pillows on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions About Joy Mangano Pillow Review: A Sleep Expert’s Honest Take
Is the Joy Mangano Pillow worth it for its customizable design?
Yes, the Joy Mangano Pillow's modular 'pillow within a pillow' design allows for significant customization of loft and firmness, which is a major selling point. This three-part system, consisting of two outer gusseted pillows and a smaller inner pillow, lets you adjust the height to suit various sleeping preferences. At Yawnder, we appreciate products that put personalized comfort first, and this design aims to do just that.
Who is the Joy Mangano Pillow best for?
The Joy Mangano Pillow is best for sleepers who enjoy a customizable pillow and a 'fluffy' feel akin to down or feather pillows. Its shredded memory foam fill allows for molding and scrunching to fit the neck's curve. Our sleep experts at Yawnder note that its modularity could appeal to many, but it particularly suits those who like to adjust their pillow's components.
How does the Joy Mangano Pillow compare to solid memory foam pillows?
The Joy Mangano Pillow differs significantly from solid memory foam pillows due to its shredded memory foam and microfiber cluster fill. This shredded fill provides a more malleable, 'fluffy' feel that allows you to mold the pillow, unlike the more uniform support of a solid foam block. While solid foam offers consistent support, the Joy Mangano pillow aims for adaptable cradling comfort often preferred by those who like to manipulate their pillow.
What are the main downsides of the Joy Mangano Pillow?
The main downsides of the Joy Mangano Pillow include the potential for shredded foam to clump, requiring frequent fluffing, and its tendency to retain more heat than some other materials. While convenient, the machine washing process for its components can also be time-consuming. Our sleep test at Yawnder confirmed that maintaining an even surface sometimes requires extra effort.
Is the Joy Mangano Pillow good for side sleepers?
The Joy Mangano Pillow can be good for side sleepers, especially those who require maximum loft and support. Side sleepers typically need to fill the gap between their head and the mattress to maintain spinal alignment, and using all three components of this modular pillow can provide the necessary height. During our sleep analysis, we considered how the stacked components could benefit side sleepers seeking substantial support.
