Saatva mattresses are quite popular, evidenced by several factors:

Top Rankings:

    • US News & World Report: Both the Saatva Classic and Zenhaven Latex mattresses were awarded spots in their 2024 Best Mattresses rating, with the Classic topping the list
  •
    • CNET: Their review praises the Saatva mattress for its luxury, support, and responsive feel, while acknowledging its premium price tag.

Customer Reviews:

    • Positive overall sentiment: Across review platforms, Saatva mattresses generally receive positive feedback on factors like comfort, support, and customer service.
    • High review volume: The sheer number of reviews across platforms indicates Saatva is a brand many consider when purchasing a mattress.

Online Presence:

    • Strong website traffic:.
    • Active social media engagement: Their social media channels are regularly updated and have engaged communities, demonstrating brand awareness and customer interaction.

Industry Recognition:

    • Awards and accolades: It has received various industry awards and recognition, suggesting their quality and reputation are well-regarded.
    • Partnerships: They’ve partnered with organizations like the American Cancer Society, showcasing their commitment to social responsibility and potentially boosting brand image.

It’s important to note that “popularity” can be subjective. While Saatva may not be the absolute best-selling mattress brand, their presence in top rankings, positive customer reviews, and strong online presence indicate they are a well-respected and popular choice for many mattress buyers.

2024 Updates

I recently bought the mattress to review this past year to update my findings and ensure that the  Classic Mattress is still a quality mattress. Before that, Saatva sent me a mattress to review back around 2017 and back in 2012 I purchased my first Saatva before I started Yawnder. So I guess you could say this is the longest standing mattress review I have ever done. All the while I have reviewed other Saatva mattresses, including the Loom and Leaf and Zen Haven. Saatva makes a firmer mattress than most of the other online brands and they also have some new releases including the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid and the Saatva  Latex Hybrid.

For those heavy sleepers out there, Saatva introduced the Saatva HD which can go toe to toe with the Big Fig and Helix Plus. I found the Helix Plus to be the softest of the three top mattresses for heavy people.

Saatva Classic Mattress Review Updates

The Saatva mattress has remained true to its original construction of a dual coil system with a bit of foam and an organic cotton cover. Since 2012, they have expanded their lineup of mattress models to suit a wider range of firmness and materials, but what has remained consistent is that the Saatva brand continues to dominate the online mattress space in terms of offerings. So if a spring mattress isn’t your thing, take a look at the Loom and Leaf for a phenomenal foam mattress option or the Zen Haven which is the natural latex option from Saatva. They even have a mattress that can compete with the Sleep Number bed which is the Solaire mattress.

Ordering Your Mattress

You can order your Mattress direct through their website and recently they have opened some Saatva Showrooms in select cities. Saatva showrooms are also known as, “Viewing Rooms. I always think it’s best to try a mattress before you buy it because no matter what a reviewer says, nothing beats you actually trying it out yourself. So if you leave near one of these viewing rooms, go check out the full Saatva Collection.

How Does it  Feel?

It has great support and the motion transfer is minimal. I tested the Saatva Luxury Firm. Below is a video to give you an idea of bounce and motion transfer on the Saatva. If you want a bed with bounce, there’s still nothing that will beat an innerspring mattress:

YouTube video player

The Saatva Luxury Firm mattress is at a medium firmness level. You can now get different firmness levels in the Saatva Classic mattress, the Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. The Saatva Luxury Firm is still the most popular option.

For context, the Winkbed Luxury Firm is softer than the Luxury Firm as the Winkbed has a softer quilted top. However both have good support and the level of softness for the top layer is really a matter of preference but I do think the Saatva  Luxury Firm will appeal to most peoples firmness preference, knowing they want their mattress on the firmer side.

Since then, online brands have gotten into the sale game just like traditional mattress store retailers. It would be odd go to the  website and see that they aren’t running a sale. Everything is perpetually on sale and sometimes the sales are better than other times of the year. I have found that Black Friday and Memorial day are in general where you will find the best mattress deals.

 Construction

You can choose between a 11.5 inc thick Saatva and a 14.5 inch thick Saatva Classic. According to Saatva, they feel the same but I’m not sure how that can be since they are physically different. That said, here’s a picture of the profile of the 11.5″ model:

Saatva Depth

These mattresses are made in the USA and from what I gather the are made throughout the United States in a network of mattress factories.

Saatva Luxury Firm Construction

The Saatva mattress is built with two coil systems. A traditional coil system as the base layer and individually wrapped pocket coils on top of that.. This means that each coil works independently which means less motion transfer and more contouring to every curve of your body.

Saatva Classic Construction

I took the liberty of cutting open my Saatva Classic Luxury Firm. This is a picture of the inside of the Saatva Classic.

cutting saatva

First, I cut through the cover, which exposed the foam border around the mattress that is used for edge support. This is commercial-grade foam, not memory foam, so it is rigid foam to provide the edge support. The foam creates a border around the mattress about 3 inches thick.

Saatva Foam

The base layer is a fabric padding which the first layer of coils sits on.

Saatva Classic Inside

Below is a picture of the Classic coil system. From what I can tell, there is the base layer of coils which are all tied together and then a felt pad above that and then the pocket coils. This is one of the few mattresses I have seen sold online with traditional steel coils and then pocket coils above it. Without the pocket coil layers, this mattress would have a lot of motion transfer. It also is a reason the Saatva is not a bed in a box. like a memory foam mattress.

The top layer of the Saatva is made with organic cotton. It is a quilted top so it allows you to sink into the top of the mattress a bit.

Saatvva Classic Cover

This mattress also has good edge support. That means you can use the whole surface of the mattress. If you get to the edge you won’t feel like you’re going to fall off.

As far as cooling, Saatva does a great job with temperature regulation. The organic cotton top is very soft and breathable. Granted the Saatva is not an organic or all natural mattress but having the cover made with organic cotton is nice. I don’t believe it is 100% organic cotton though.

This is it if you’re looking for a quality innerspring mattress with a soft cushioning top layer with great lumbar support. I weigh over 200 lbs. and had no issues with caving or lack of support. This could be due to their lumbar zone quilting that has extra support for your lower back.

What I hear from many people is that they will buy an innerspring mattress from a brick-and-mortar store and sleep great on it for a few months, then will notice impressions. It has solid construction and will hold up over time.

Best of all, you are saving money upfront by getting a superior product at a fraction of the cost of comparable high-end store brands.

They offer an amazing one-year home trial. This is one of the longest trials, and they join the ranks of DreamCloud, Nectar, Brentwood Home, and Nest Bedding, which also have one-year trials. That means you get to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home for all four seasons in hot and cold temperatures to make sure it’s the right fit year round.

If you don’t like the mattress within that year and want to return it, Saatva charges a small return fee, at the time of this writing it’s less than $100 to pick up the mattress and refund your money. This is a bargain since you already get free white glove delivery and removal.

A traditional mattress store will give you store credit instead of a cash refund. This means you’re actually stuck with whatever mattress they have to offer. Or, they may charge a restocking fee of up to 20% of the cost of the mattress, which means you are out hundreds of dollars, and the trial is not nearly as generous.

I have slept on many innerspring beds, both from traditional stores like Slumberland and Mattress Firm, and from online brands like Amazon. If more people realized the value they get from these online brands, I think there would be a much higher adoption rate.

They also offer quality foundations and white glove delivery. That means they will bring the bed into your house and room of your choice and remove your old mattress. With many online companies, you need to figure that part out on your own.

If you already have a good foundation, though, there is no need to buy a new one. As long as it is a solid, breathable surface, your Saatva will work great.

Does it Work with an Adjustable Bed?

Another point to note is that people often ask, can a Saatva mattress be used on an adjustable bed? The answer is, yes. The 11.5-inch version will work on an adjustable base. However, the 14.5-inch version does not, so make sure you choose carefully. I recommend going with the 11.5 inch version so that if you decide to upgrade to an adjustable bed in the future, your mattress will be compatible.

Which Firmness is Right For Me?

The Saatva Classic comes in multiple firmness options so that you can get a feel that is optimal for your sleep style.

Stomach Sleepers should go with the Firm Saatva Classic. The firmer gives you extra support for your lower back which is what you need as a stomach sleeper.

Back Sleepers should choose the Luxury Firm version, which provides just the right amount of sink and pressure relief to keep their upper back relaxed. This is also known in the industry as a medium firm feel.

Side Sleepers can go with the Luxury firm or Soft. The Saatva Classic skews firmer than most online brands so if you want more contouring and tend to get sore hips sleeping on your side, go with the Saatva Soft.

Does it Have Memory Foam?

Yes there is some memory foam used towards the top of the Saatva for back support and pressure relief.

Final Thoughts on the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm Mattress

Along with the Saatva Classic, there are now hundreds of innerspring mattress brands to buy online with generous trials. Some of my other favorites are the Winkbed, DreamCloud, Nest Bedding and Brooklyn Bedding.

The Saatva Classic is certainly a classes and many have rated it up there with some  top luxury mattresses. There are plenty of hybrid mattresses to choose from but Saatva has a feel all its own.

Saatva now as a 1 year trial period so there’s plenty of time to see if its a good fit.

The mattress industry and changed dramatically since I bought my first Saatva and I expect more good things to happen with Saatva and mattress technology in general.

You can get a side-by-side comparison of WinkBeds vs Saatva Here.

How Long Will the Saatva Mattress Last?

Saatva states that their mattresses can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, depending on the specific model:

  • Classic (innerspring): 10 to 15 years [ Saatva says how long will my Saatva Classic last]
  •  HD (luxury innerspring): 15-20 years [ Saatva how long does Saatva HD last]

These lifespans are based on normal use. Some factors can influence how long your Saatva mattress will last, such as:

  • Care and maintenance: Regularly rotating and cleaning your mattress will help it maintain its shape and comfort for longer.
  • Body weight: Heavier sleepers may cause the mattress to wear out faster.
  • Sleeping habits: If you tend to sleep in one position all night, that area of the mattress may compress more quickly.

They offer a lifetime warranty on their mattresses, though it covers defects in materials or workmanship, not normal wear and tear.

Trial and Warranty

Here’s a breakdown of Saatva’s shipping, delivery, trial, warranty, and return policy for their mattresses:

Shipping & Delivery:

  • Free White-Glove Delivery: Saatva offers free white-glove delivery, which includes bringing the mattress into your home, setting it up on your existing bed frame, and removing your old mattress (if requested). [Saatva delivery]
  • Delivery Timeframe: Typically, mattresses are delivered within 9-21 days depending on your location. [Saatva delivery]

Trial Period:

  • 365-Night Home Trial: Saatva offers a generous 365-night trial period for all their mattresses. This allows you to test the mattress in the comfort of your own home for a full year. [Saatva trial]

Warranty:

  • Lifetime Warranty: Saatva mattresses come with a lifetime warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. [Saatva warranty details are not readily available online, recommend reaching out to Saatva for specifics]

Return Policy:

  • 365-Night Return Window: If you decide to return your mattress within the trial period, Saatva will schedule a pickup and issue a full refund for the purchase price (including taxes) minus a $99 processing fee. [Saatva trial]
  • Donation Program: Saatva donates returned mattresses to charity or recycles them, rather than reselling them. [Saatva trial]

Important Notes:

  • The return policy applies only to mattresses. Saatva’s adjustable base and crib mattress have different policies. [Saatva return policy]
  • Saatva recommends waiting at least 30 days to allow your body to adjust to the new mattress before initiating a return. [Saatva trial]

Customization

Saatva offers some level of customization through their two main mattress models:

1. Saatva Solaire:

  • This is Saatva’s most customizable mattress. It features an innerspring core with an adjustable air chamber.
  • Customers can adjust the firmness of the mattress by inflating or deflating the air chamber using a remote control. This allows for personalized comfort on a scale of 1 (softest) to 50 (firmest).
  • Additionally, the Solaire is available in split king or California king sizes, which means each side of the mattress can be adjusted independently, ideal for couples with different firmness preferences.

2. Saatva Classic and Saatva HD:

  • These models are not directly customizable in terms of firmness.
  • However, they do come in two different firmness options: luxury plush (softer) and firm.
  • Customers can choose the firmness that best suits their sleeping style and body type.

Additional Customization Points:

  • Saatva offers their mattresses in all standard mattress sizes (twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king).
  • While the mattress itself isn’t customizable, Saatva offers various adjustable bases that can be purchased separately. These bases allow you to raise the head and foot of the mattress for personalized comfort.

Firmness Options

The Saatva Classic mattress offers two key preference-based features to cater to different sleep styles and body types:

  1. Firmness Levels: Saatva Classic doesn’t offer adjustable firmness like the Saatva Solaire model. However, it comes in three pre-set firmness options to choose from:

    • Luxury Plush (Soft): Ideal for side sleepers and lighter-weight individuals who prefer a softer, more cradling feel.
    • Luxury Firm (Medium-Firm): This is Saatva’s most popular option and is suitable for a variety of sleep styles, including back, stomach, and combination sleepers. It offers a good balance of comfort and support.
    • Firm: This is best for stomach sleepers or heavier individuals who prefer a firmer sleeping surface with minimal sinkage.
  2. Height Options (limited customization): Saatva Classic comes in two height options:

    • 11.5 inches: This is the standard height for the Saatva Classic and works well for most people.
    • 14.5 inches: This taller profile can provide additional pressure relief for larger individuals or those who prefer a more substantial mattress feel.

How does the Saatva mattress perform in terms of motion transfer, temperature regulation, bounce, and edge support?

Motion Transfer:

  • Cons: Saatva Classic and HD models are innerspring mattresses and may not isolate motion as well as some memory foam mattresses. So, if you sleep with a partner who moves a lot, you might feel some disturbance.
  • Pros: Saatva Solaire with its adjustable air chamber can be customized to reduce motion transfer if a firmer setting is chosen.

Temperature Regulation:

  • Pros: Saatva mattresses are generally considered good for hot sleepers due to their innerspring construction and breathable layers. The innerspring core allows for air circulation, and the top comfort layers are often made with materials that promote coolness, like gel memory foam or Saatva’s Lumbar Zone Cooling Technology.

Bounce:

  • Pros: Saatva Classic and HD models offer good bounce due to their innerspring construction. This can be beneficial for combination sleepers who switch positions throughout the night, and people who enjoy a more responsive mattress feel.
  • Cons: Excessive bounce might be disruptive to couples if one partner tends to move around a lot in their sleep.

Edge Support:

  • Pros: Saatva mattresses are known for having good edge support due to their reinforced edge construction. This means the entire surface area of the mattress is usable, and you shouldn’t feel like you’re rolling off the sides. This is important for couples, people who like to spread out while they sleep, and those who sit on the edge of the mattress when getting in and out of bed.

Overall:

Saatva mattress performance depends on the specific model you choose. The Saatva Classic and HD prioritize good bounce and edge support, while the Saatva Solaire offers more customization to address motion transfer and temperature regulation preferences.

Our Recommendation

The unique design of the Saatva mattress with its two coil units and lack of all-foam construction, might not be ideal for a few types of sleepers:

  • All-foam enthusiasts: If you are a dedicated side sleeper who prioritizes the deep contouring and pressure relief of memory foam, the Saatva’s coil system might not provide enough cradling for your body. An all-foam mattress would likely conform to your curves more effectively.
  • Motion-sensitive sleepers: As mentioned earlier, the innerspring core in Saatva Classic and HD models can transfer motion more readily compared to some memory foam mattresses. If you are easily disturbed by your partner’s movements, a mattress with better motion isolation might be a better choice.
  • Stomach sleepers with significant body weight: While the Saatva offers a firm option, the coil system might not provide enough lumbar support for heavier stomach sleepers. In this case, a very firm all-foam mattress or a hybrid mattress with a stronger coil core could be more suitable.

Here’s a quick summary table:

Sleeper TypeWhy Saatva Might Not Be IdealBetter Option
Die-hard side sleeperPrefers deep contouring of memory foamAll-foam mattress
Motion-sensitive sleeperNeeds better motion isolationMemory foam or hybrid mattress with good motion isolation
Heavy stomach sleeperNeeds more lumbar supportVery firm all-foam mattress or hybrid mattress with stronger coil core

It’s important to note that these are general guidelines. Even with the features mentioned above, Saatva mattresses might still work well for some individuals in these categories. Ultimately, the best way to determine suitability is to consider your own sleep preferences and try out the mattress yourself. Saatva’s generous trial period allows you to test the mattress at home and see if it meets your needs.

Financing

Saatva offers two financing options for their mattresses through third-party providers:

  • Affirm: This is a popular financing alternative to credit cards that allows you to split your mattress purchase into fixed monthly installments with no late or hidden fees. You can see the loan terms (interest rate, total amount to be paid) before finalizing the purchase if approved for financing through Affirm.

  • Zip (previously Quadpay): This option allows you to pay for your Saatva mattress in four interest-free installments spread over six weeks. Payments are automatically deducted from your linked debit or credit card every two weeks, with friendly reminders to ensure you don’t miss a payment.

Here are some additional points to consider about Saatva’s financing options:

  • Credit Check: Both Affirm and Zip require a soft credit check to determine your eligibility. A soft credit check typically does not affect your credit score.
  • Eligibility: Approval for financing depends on your creditworthiness and meeting the requirements set by Affirm or Zip.
  • Interest Rates: Interest rates for Affirm financing can vary depending on your creditworthiness and the loan terms. Zip offers an interest-free payment option.

Certifications

Saatva prioritizes using non-toxic and eco-friendly materials in their mattresses. While they don’t have certifications for all their mattresses, they do utilize materials with certifications from various organizations:

  • CertiPUR-US certified foams: This certification ensures the foams used in the mattress are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and free of harmful chemicals.

Saatva also mentions using materials with the following certifications on their website, though it’s not clear on which specific mattress models these apply to:

  • OEKO-TEX certified textiles: This certification signifies textiles free of harmful substances.
  • GOLS-certified latex (if applicable): This certification indicates the latex comes from a sustainable source.

It’s always a good idea to check with Saatva to confirm the specific certifications for the mattress model you’re interested in. You can find more information about mattress certifications on Saatva’s blog

  • Saatva also offers a variety of cooling accessories, such as a pillow with a cooling gel insert and a breathable mattress protector.

Overall, Saatva mattresses offer a variety of features to promote cooling. The most effective models for hot sleepers are the Latex Hybrid and the Classic with the Euro pillow top.

Saatva for Back Pain

The Saatva mattress is designed to provide both support and comfort, which are important factors for people who suffer from back pain. The mattress uses a coil-on-coil system that offers sturdy support to the spine, and it also has a layer of memory foam to provide pressure relief and contouring to the body.

Many people who have used the Saatva mattress have reported experiencing relief from back pain. However, it’s important to note that everyone’s body is different and what works for one person may not work for another. Additionally, the severity and underlying cause of your back pain may also affect how well the Saatva mattress can alleviate your symptoms.

If you are experiencing chronic or severe back pain, it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before making any changes to your sleeping surface. They may be able to provide additional guidance on how to manage your pain and whether the Saatva mattress is a good option for you.

In contrast, the Saatva Original mattress is a luxury innerspring mattress that features a coil-on-coil system, with a layer of individually wrapped coils for support and a layer of interconnected coils for added durability. While both mattresses offer comfort and support, the Saatva Latex Hybrid stands out for its eco-friendly materials and its natural latex layer that provides a unique feel and additional benefits such as breathability and pressure relief.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is not entirely organic, but it does incorporate several organic and eco-friendly materials in its construction. Here are some of the organic components found in the mattress:

  1. Organic cotton cover: The mattress features a cover made from organic cotton, which is a more sustainable and chemical-free option compared to conventional cotton. Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

  2. Organic wool: A layer of organic wool is used within the mattress as a natural flame retardant and temperature regulator. Organic wool is sourced from sheep raised without the use of harmful chemicals, and it is processed using eco-friendly methods.

  3. Natural Talalay latex: The mattress includes a layer of natural Talalay latex, which is derived from the sap of the rubber tree. Although not certified organic, natural latex is an eco-friendly and renewable resource, as it is harvested from sustainable sources without the use of synthetic materials.

While the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is not 100% organic, it does incorporate a significant amount of organic and eco-friendly materials, making it a more environmentally-conscious choice for consumers who prioritize sustainability and natural materials.

Leesa is one of several online mattress companies that have sprung up in the past decade, capitalizing on the direct-to-consumer trend in the mattress industry. Here’s a brief history of the Leesa mattress:

  1. Foundation and Background: Leesa Sleep, LLC was founded in 2014 by David Wolfe and Jamie Diamonstein. Their goal was to create a luxury mattress that was available exclusively online, simplifying the mattress shopping process.

  2. Product Development: Initially, the company launched with its flagship all-foam mattress, the Leesa mattress. Over time, Leesa expanded its product line to include hybrid mattresses (which combine foam and springs) and other sleep-related products.

  3. Direct-to-Consumer Model: Bypassing traditional mattress showrooms, Leesa adopted a direct-to-consumer model, selling its mattresses online and shipping them compressed in a box to customers’ doors. This model allowed the company to offer a high-quality product at a more competitive price.

  4. Social Impact: Leesa has been known for its social impact initiatives. They’ve pledged to donate one mattress for every ten sold to those in need. They’ve also been involved in reforestation efforts, planting trees for every mattress sold.

  5. Physical Showrooms: Despite starting as an online-only retailer, Leesa recognized the value in allowing customers to experience the feel of their mattresses in person. To this end, they opened their first branded store in 2018 in Virginia Beach. They also entered partnerships with retailers like West Elm and Pottery Barn to showcase their mattresses in physical locations.

  6. Reviews and Reputation: Over the years, Leesa has garnered a positive reputation for its mattresses. Many customers and reviewers have praised the company for the comfort and quality of its products as well as its commitment to social responsibility.

  7. Challenges and Competitors: Like many industries, the online mattress space has become increasingly competitive. Leesa faces competition from several other direct-to-consumer mattress brands like Casper, Purple, and Tuft & Needle, among others. This competition has driven innovation and a focus on customer service and quality within the industry.

Leesa continues to be a prominent player in the online mattress industry. However, the fast-paced nature of the market means that there could have been further developments or changes in the company’s trajectory since then.

I received a free Leesa Mattress to review on The Yawnder. I had the opportunity to speak with one of the Founders of the Leesa Mattress Company who really knows mattresses and wanted to enhance the experience of mattress buyers at an extremely competitive price. They do this by cutting out the middleman, the mattress store. This allows them to give you a better quality mattress than what you will find in a typical mattress store at less than half the price! It’s a remarkable bargain. Leesa is now the official Michael Phelps Mattress. Yes, that Michael Phelps!

Best of all you get 100 nights to try it for free. They have a no-hassle return policy where they arrange a pickup of the mattress and haul it out for you for free with a full refund!

Here’s my experience with the Leesa Mattress from start to finish. It was fun and easy!

How to Buy a Leesa Mattress

Purchasing the Leesa Mattress was a seamless experience.  To shop Leesa,  just pick your size, enter your address and credit card info and presto! a new mattress in a tidy little box arrives at your doorstep in about a week. You get tracking information once your mattress ships so that you know when to expect it at your doorstep. Very convenient for knowing when to ditch your old mattress or at least get it out of the way for the upgrade. The mattress arrives in a box which makes it easy to transport to any room in your house without worrying about moving furniture or navigating narrow corridors.

Unboxing the Leesa Mattress. How soon can you sleep on it?

Here’s a video of me unboxing the Leesa Mattress. It’s super easy and fun! It decompresses to full size in about 2 minutes. You can hear the air coming in through the plastic as you open it. Sort of like squishing a marshmallow and letting go.

Sleep Experience on the Leesa Mattress

My first impression of sleeping on the Leesa Mattress is that is has a really soft top layer. Softer than Tuft&Needle and Yogabed so if you like a softer mattress, this is it! There is a little bit more bounce to the Leesa Bed so make sure you are aware of that. However, that makes it good for other activities.  The Leesa Mattress sort of hugs your body which makes it extra cozy but it bounces back into shape quickly so unlike memory foam you don’t find yourself digging out of the bed. The bed is also firm enough so that you don’t feel like you will roll off or disturb your partner.

When sleeping on the Leesa bed you get a sort of floating sensation. It almost feels like you’re weightless because there aren’t any pressure points to wake you up in the middle of the night. The mattress cradles your body and provides the perfect distribution of comfort and support throughout the night. I am a stomach sleeper so I have a very high standard for pressure points.

Unlike a traditional memory foam mattress, you won’t find yourself trying to dig out of an impression if you wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I also really like the aesthetics of the Leesa Bed. It’s a beautifully soft and silky cover although you won’t be seeing it often underneath sheets and/or mattress protector. The cover is removable with a zipper underneath the mattress that goes all the way around to it’s easy to remove and wash if you like.

With each mattress I get,  I do my own bowling ball test. Check out what happens when I toss my 14 lb. bowling ball on the Leesa Mattress.  You can see that it has lots of bounce and quickly goes back into shape. You get the best of a spring mattress without the springs and the best of a memory foam mattress without the lasting impressions.

In the picture below you can see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress.

The polyester fabric lycra blend cover feels silky smooth and cool. It is very supple so you really get a feel for the actual mattress. Often mattresses have thick covers that stiffen the overall feel of the mattress.

Here’s a picture of sinkage without the cover on to show you how each layer supports you.

Remember, you get a 100-night satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t like it they will give you a FULL REFUND and make the return process hassle free which means no trips to the post office or anything like that. It’s like they bring the showroom to you!

Here’s their return policy from the Leesa website:

First, try your Leesa for at least 30 nights. This allows your body ample time to adjust to the feel of a new mattress.

We’re confident you’ll love your Leesa but if you don’t, you have up to 100 nights to let us know. There are zero return fees and you do not have to worry about fitting your Leesa back in the box. We’ll arrange to have your mattress picked up from your home with no additional effort or cost on your part. We do our best to locate a charity in your community otherwise we coordinate your pick up with our recycle partner. Then we refund your purchase in full.

My Leesa Mattress Recommendation

I couldn’t recommend the Leesa Mattress more. I have slept on beds in excess of \$3,500 and the Leesa Mattress provides just as much if not more comfort at a fraction of the price with a better warranty/trial period!

If you are new to memory foam or just unsure about which mattress to purchase. The Leesa is a safe bet. There’s no risk so you can just try it for free to see if memory foam is right for you. The vast majority of people that go with a Leesa, love it. So chances are you will too! If not, you then have a point of reference to work from and I can help guide you to the perfect one.

The Dreampad pillow is a unique pillow that uses Intrasound Technology™ to convert sound into gentle vibrations that travel directly to your inner ear. This helps to calm the mind and body, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

The Dreampad pillow is available in three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm. It is also available in a variety of colors to match your bedroom décor.

To use the Dreampad pillow, simply connect it to your smartphone or tablet and play your favorite calming music or nature sounds. The pillow will then convert the sound into gentle vibrations that you can feel, but others cannot hear.

The Dreampad pillow is a great choice for people who have trouble sleeping, as well as for people who simply want to relax and de-stress. It is also a good choice for people who live in noisy environments, as it can help to block out noise and create a more peaceful sleep environment.

Here are some of the benefits of using a Dreampad pillow:

  • Helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Blocks out noise
  • Creates a more peaceful sleep environment

If you are looking for a way to improve your sleep, the Dreampad pillow is a great option to consider. It is comfortable, effective, and easy to use.

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to try out the Dreampad pillow. The Dreampad is a pillow that plays music that is only audible to the person lying on it. It uses a unique method called Inrasound Technology. According to their website, here’s how it works:

Intrasound Technology™ replicates this natural process by using electromechanical transducers to convert the electrical signals of the music into vibrations. The vibrations are carried by bone to the area surrounding the inner ear, which plays a key role in our hearing, balance, coordination and our ability to filter out unwanted noise. It is also an area which is connected to our Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) through the Vagus Nerve.

The Dreampad has an audio jack built into it and you can plug it directly into your phone or mp3 player. It also has a free app that you can get on the Google or iTunes store that comes with music to help you fall asleep. If you really want to go all out you can also purchase a bluetooth adapter if you would rather the phone be further away from you and you don’t want to deal with cords.

The Dreampad is a relatively new product but they have already conducted some very promising research. Tests on veterans with PTSD have shown that they are able to fall back asleep faster using the pillow and some also have reduced the frequency and severity of nightmares.

Other tests indicate a benefit to children with Autism, ADHD and HRV (heart rate variability).

I have been using the Dreampad for the past 3 nights and love it! The app is very easy to use and all the music is extremely relaxing and not overpowering. You sort of forget the music is playing but at the same time it keeps your mind from wandering and worrying which used to keep me up at night.

This is also the first time I have ever been able to fall asleep with music playing. I normally just use a white noise machine. I woke up at 3am last night and noticed that the music was still on only after I got up to go to the bathroom and laid back down on the pillow.

I am really excited to try ASMR with the Dreampad. I have friends that love ASMR but do not like playing it through a stereo since it can be annoying for a spouse that doesn’t do ASMR. I had the volume on my Dreampad at about 50% and when I lifted my head off the pillow I couldn’t hear anything, neither could my wife sleeping a few inches away.

If you or your child has Autism or ADHD, the Dreampad also has some promising research to indicate that it promotes better rest for Autistic or ADHD individuals. The full report can be found here. This is the first ADHD and Autism pillow I have come across.

Since the Dreampad is so new, I think we are only starting to see what it can really do in terms of benefiting sleep and over all mental health. There’s some promising preliminary studies with the DreamPad that indicate it also helps alleviate symptoms of PTSD and ADHD.

Since the app is free, I imagine they will be updating it on a regular basis with new music.

Dreampad Pillow Research

here is limited research on the Dreampad pillow, but the existing research shows promising results.

One study, conducted by Columbia University Medical Center, found that the Dreampad pillow can help to reduce nighttime awakenings. The study participants were randomly assigned to use the Dreampad pillow, a meditation app, or a sleep hygiene program. The Dreampad pillow group experienced significantly fewer nighttime awakenings than the other two groups.

Another study, conducted by the University of California, San Francisco, found that the Dreampad pillow can help to improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans. The study participants were randomly assigned to use the Dreampad pillow or a placebo pillow. The Dreampad pillow group reported significantly better sleep quality and reduced symptoms of PTSD than the placebo group.

While more research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of the Dreampad pillow, the existing research suggests that it may be a safe and effective way to improve sleep quality and reduce stress.

Here are the citations for the two studies mentioned above:

  • Gutman, S. A., & Patel, M. (2016). Comparative effectiveness of three occupational therapy sleep interventions: A randomized controlled study. American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 70(5), 7005210060.
  • Schoenwald, S. K., & Woods, B. L. (2019). The efficacy of the Dreampad in influencing sleep behavior in military veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Military Medicine, 184(1-2), 53-58.

Please note that these are just two studies, and more research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of the Dreampad pillow.

Yotel Develops it’s own Smart bed

Modern hotel room at Yotel with a cozy double bed, white linens, and plush pillows. The room features a wall-mounted TV, ambient purple lighting, a bathroom with a glass shower, and a large window showcasing a nighttime city view with illuminated buildings.
Yotel2

In the evolving landscape of the hospitality industry, few brands have managed to fuse innovation, efficiency, and luxury as seamlessly as YOTEL. Recognized for its state-of-the-art micro-hotel rooms, or ‘cabins’ as they’re aptly called, YOTEL has been at the forefront of redefining the traditional hotel experience. Here’s a comprehensive look into the brand’s inception, evolution, and the unique space it occupies in the industry.

The Inception: YOTEL’s roots trace back to 2007 when it was co-founded by Simon Woodroffe, the man behind YO! Sushi, a successful global chain that revolutionized the sushi dining experience in the UK. The idea of YOTEL was inspired by first-class airplane cabins. Woodroffe, along with Gerard Greene, envisioned a hotel that translated the luxury, compactness, and efficiency of these cabins into on-ground accommodations.

First Footprints: The brand took off with its innovative “YOTELAIR” concept, aiming to serve transit passengers. Its first location was established at London’s Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal in 2007. The convenience of having a plush space to rest, refresh, or catch up on work without leaving the airport was groundbreaking. This airport-centric model quickly expanded, with the brand planting flags in airports like London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol.

Urban Expansion: Recognizing the potential for its compact luxury model beyond transit hubs, YOTEL ventured into city centers. In 2011, the brand made its grand urban debut with YOTEL New York in Manhattan, boasting over 700 cabins, making it the brand’s largest property at the time. This move marked the brand’s shift from merely serving transit passengers to catering to a wider audience seeking efficient luxury in prime urban locations.

Innovative Features: YOTEL has consistently set itself apart through its embrace of technology and space optimization. The brand’s signature features include automated check-in kiosks, eliminating the traditional reception desk’s need, and a robotic luggage storage solution named “YOBOT” in its New York location. The compact rooms, while being space-efficient, do not skimp on amenities, offering luxury bedding, monsoon showers, and smart TVs.

Global Presence: After its urban foray in New York, YOTEL’s presence has burgeoned across the globe, with locations in cities like Boston, San Francisco, Singapore, and Istanbul. The brand has shown a knack for choosing strategic locations, often in bustling city centers or close to significant transit points, catering to both leisure and business travelers.

Future Visions: As the hospitality industry undergoes rapid transformations, YOTEL continues to adapt and innovate. The brand has hinted at exploring concepts like co-working spaces within its hotels and expanding its footprint in Asia and the Middle East.

Yotel, the popular micro hotel rooms in New York City, London and Amsterdam have announced that they will be launching their own line of beds called the “smart bed”. The Smart Bed, designed excursively by Serta for Yotel will feature a gliding mechanism that converts the bed into a couch with the touch of a button. The first beds have been installed in the flagship Yotel in New York City. In addition to a new line of smart beds, Yotel also produced the video below that is supposed to induce sleep titled, “Yawn”. No word yet if these beds will be made available to consumers but I think it would be great if they did. There’s lots of people in apartments or other small spaces that would benefit from a Yotel Smart Bed.

I imagine the beds are made from some sort of foam or latex since they need to be flexible enough to convert into a couch over and over. Get the best deal on Yotel and try the new Yotel Mattress at Hotels.com

Two purple and white delivery robots are positioned side by side in front of a wall featuring a 3D cracked design and an image of a stack of books. YOTEL Mattresses: Redefining Sleep in Compact Luxury

In the bustling world of hospitality, the significance of a good night’s sleep can hardly be overstated. At the heart of this experience lies the mattress, a make-or-break element for many travelers. As YOTEL continues to make waves with its avant-garde approach to hotel accommodations, one of the brand’s crowning features remains the comfort and design of its mattresses. Let’s delve into the unique characteristics that make the YOTEL mattress stand out.

Optimized for Space: In keeping with YOTEL’s philosophy of efficient use of space, their mattresses are custom-designed to fit the brand’s signature ‘cabins.’ However, compactness does not translate to compromise. Each mattress is meticulously crafted to ensure that the space it occupies is optimized for comfort.

Premium Comfort: YOTEL mattresses are constructed with a careful blend of support and softness. The underlying layers offer firm support to the spine, catering to a wide array of sleeping positions, be it back, side, or stomach sleepers. This firmness is juxtaposed with a plush top layer that cradles the body, ensuring a restful sleep.

High-Quality Materials: The YOTEL brand is synonymous with luxury, and its mattresses are no exception. Average Cost to Stay at Yotel

  • YOTEL San Francisco: $115 per night
  • YOTEL New York Times Square: $254 per night

As YOTEL continues its ascent in the global hospitality market, here are the key advantages that make staying at a YOTEL property a distinctive experience.

1. Space Efficiency: At the core of YOTEL’s ethos is its genius in optimizing space. The brand’s signature ‘cabins’ are thoughtfully designed to utilize every inch, ensuring guests have everything they need within arm’s reach. This compactness, rather than feeling restrictive, imparts a sense of modern minimalism.

2. Prime Locations: Whether it’s their YOTELAIR properties at major transit hubs or their urban locations, YOTEL prioritizes accessibility. Guests often find themselves in the heart of bustling cities or a stone’s throw away from their departure gates, making commutes and exploration exceptionally convenient.

3. Technological Integration: YOTEL seamlessly blends hospitality with technology. Automated check-in kiosks, the famous “YOBOT” robotic luggage storage in some locations, and smart beds are just a few examples of how the brand leverages tech to enhance guest experiences.

4. Value for Money: Given its focus on compact luxury, YOTEL offers a premium experience without the exorbitant price tag often associated with luxury hotels. Guests enjoy high-end amenities and impeccable service, all wrapped in a package that offers excellent value.

5. Allergy-Friendly Rooms: Recognizing the needs of modern travelers, many YOTEL properties offer allergy-friendly cabins. These rooms undergo specialized treatments to reduce allergens, ensuring guests have a comfortable and healthy stay.

6. Flexible Stay Options: Particularly in their YOTELAIR properties, the brand offers booking flexibility, allowing guests to book rooms for just a few hours—a boon for transit travelers in need of a quick rest or refresh.

7. Modern Aesthetics: YOTEL properties often exude a contemporary charm, characterized by sleek design, mood lighting, and intuitive layouts. This modern aesthetic caters to the tastes of today’s globetrotters.

8. Multipurpose Public Spaces: Going beyond just accommodations, YOTELs often feature dynamic public areas, from co-working spaces to chic lounges and bars. These spaces are designed to accommodate a variety of guest needs, from work to relaxation.

9. Sustainable Practices: In an age where sustainability is paramount, YOTEL is committed to eco-friendly practices. From construction materials to daily operations, there’s a clear emphasis on reducing the environmental footprint.

10. Diverse Offerings: Recognizing the varied needs of its clientele, YOTEL continues to diversify its offerings. From premium suites to first-class inspired cabins, there’s a room type to cater to every preference and budget.

Leveraging Credit Card Points for a YOTEL Stay: A Smart Traveler’s Guide

In the ever-shifting world of travel, savvy travelers know that credit card points can be as good as gold. With hotels like YOTEL redefining the luxury hospitality landscape, the prospect of utilizing points to fund stays at such properties is an enticing one. But how can one go about using these accumulated rewards to secure a booking at YOTEL? Let’s navigate this terrain.

1. Direct Partnerships: The first port of call is to determine if your credit card’s rewards program has a direct partnership with YOTEL. Such partnerships often allow cardholders to redeem points at preferential rates, providing better value for each point spent.

2. Booking Through Card Portals: Many credit card companies operate their travel portals where cardholders can book flights, hotels, and more using their points. Platforms like Chase’s Ultimate Rewards or American Express’s Travel site may have YOTEL listings, allowing for direct bookings using points.

3. Transfer Partners: If YOTEL is not directly affiliated with your credit card rewards program, investigate potential transfer partners. Some card programs allow users to transfer points to hotel loyalty programs. If YOTEL is affiliated with any of these hotel loyalty programs, you can transfer and redeem your points for your stay.

4. Points as Statement Credit: Another approach is the indirect redemption route. After booking a stay at YOTEL using your credit card, you can use your points to cover the purchase by redeeming them for a statement credit. While this method may not offer the best value per point, it provides flexibility.

5. Hybrid Payment: Some reward programs and travel portals permit a combination of points and cash for bookings. If you don’t have enough points to cover the entire YOTEL stay, you might be able to pay a portion with points and cover the remainder with cash.

6. Special Promotions: Stay vigilant for promotions. Occasionally, credit card companies or their associated loyalty programs may run special offers where hotels, including brands like YOTEL, could be booked at discounted point rates.

7. Cardholder Benefits: It’s worth noting that while your points can secure your stay, holding specific premium credit cards can also fetch you additional benefits like room upgrades, early check-in, late check-out, or even dining credits, enhancing your YOTEL experience.

8. Analyze Point Value: Before finalizing any booking, it’s prudent to evaluate the value you’re getting for each point. Divide the cash price of the room by the number of points required for the stay. This gives you a per-point value, helping in determining if you’re getting a good deal.

Conclusion: Booking a YOTEL stay using credit card points is not just a possibility but can be a strategic move for the astute traveler. It requires a mix of research, understanding the nuances of your credit card rewards program, and occasionally, a touch of timing. As YOTEL continues to be a sought-after choice for contemporary travelers, leveraging points can make the experience both luxurious and economical. Always remember, in the world of travel rewards, knowledge is not just power but also luxury.

YOTEL and the Rise of Robotic Hospitality: A Glimpse into the Future

In the intricate dance of hospitality where tradition often meets innovation, YOTEL has emerged as a disruptor. Not just content with redefining spatial luxury, the brand has ventured into harnessing robotics, marking a significant shift in guest interactions and hotel operations. Let’s explore YOTEL’s embrace of robotics and its implications for the hospitality industry at large.

1. YOBOT: Luggage Logistics Transformed:
Arguably the most iconic of YOTEL’s robotic innovations is “YOBOT”, the luggage-storing robot that first graced the brand’s New York location. With its sleek design and user-friendly interface, YOBOT efficiently manages guest luggage in secure lockers, offering both novelty and utility. Beyond mere storage, YOBOT has become emblematic of YOTEL’s forward-thinking ethos.

2. Streamlining Operations:
The introduction of robots, like YOBOT, underscores a broader trend in hospitality: optimizing operational efficiency. Robots can handle repetitive tasks, such as moving luggage, with precision, reducing human error and freeing hotel staff to address more complex guest needs.

3. Enhancing Guest Experience:
While efficiency is a clear outcome, YOTEL’s robots also elevate the guest experience. Interacting with a robot, especially for first-time visitors, is not just functional but also memorable. It creates a unique touchpoint, differentiating YOTEL from other hotel brands and leaving a lasting impression.

4. Data and Feedback Collection:
Robotic interfaces can gather valuable data about guest interactions, preferences, and feedback. Over time, this data can offer insights into improving hotel services, tailoring offerings to specific guest needs, and predicting future trends.

5. Setting a Tech-forward Brand Image:
The incorporation of robotics solidifies YOTEL’s position as a tech-forward brand. In a digital age where consumers, especially millennials and Gen Z, are tech-savvy and expect seamless integrations, robots can be powerful brand ambassadors signaling modernity and innovation.

6. Challenges and Considerations:
While robots present numerous advantages, YOTEL, and the broader hospitality industry, must navigate associated challenges. The balance between automation and the human touch is delicate in a sector where personalization and human warmth are paramount. Training staff to work alongside robots and addressing any tech glitches promptly are crucial aspects to consider.

When it comes to bedding, we all want something that’s comfortable, durable, and eco-friendly. That’s where Cariloha sheets come in. Made from bamboo fabric, these sheets offer a luxurious sleeping experience while also being sustainable and earth-friendly.

I recently had the opportunity to try out a set of Cariloha sheets, and I was eager to see if they lived up to the hype. After sleeping on them for several weeks, I can confidently say that these sheets are worth considering if you’re in the market for a new bedding set. In this review, I’ll share my thoughts on the materials and construction of the sheets, their comfort and performance, their durability and maintenance, their eco-friendliness, and their overall value. Let’s dive in!

First and foremost, let’s talk about the materials and construction of the Cariloha sheets. As mentioned, these sheets are made from bamboo fabric, which is known for its softness and durability. The fabric is also hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking, which can be particularly beneficial for those with sensitive skin or who tend to get hot at night.

The Cariloha sheets are available in a variety of colors, and I opted for the classic white. Upon receiving them, I was immediately struck by how soft they felt. They have a silky texture that’s both luxurious and inviting, and I couldn’t wait to crawl into bed and see how they felt while sleeping.

The sheets are made with a sateen weave, which means they have a smooth, glossy finish that gives them a subtle sheen. They have a 400 thread count, which is a good indicator of quality and durability. I appreciate that Cariloha doesn’t rely solely on thread count as a measure of quality, but also considers other factors like the type of weave and the quality of the fibers themselves.

One thing I noticed when first putting the sheets on my bed is that they have a bit of a stretch to them. This made it easy to get them on my mattress without having to struggle or pull too hard. They also fit nicely without any excess fabric or bunching.

Overall, I’m impressed with the materials and construction of the Cariloha sheets. They feel high-quality and well-made, and I appreciate the attention to detail that went into their design. In the next section, I’ll share my thoughts on their comfort and performance.

I received a free set of Cariloha sheets for review.  For years I have slept on cheap sheets from large retail stores. But I have also purchased sheets in excess of $150 from higher end department stores that were made from everything from cotton to silk. I was recently given the opportunity to review some bamboo sheets from Cariloha. Hands down these these are the best sheets my wife and I have ever slept on. They are smooth like silk sheets but not as slippery. They are also much more breathable and easier to clean as they can be washed in a regular washer and dryer, something not always easily done with silk sheets. I have learned that bamboo is also antibacterial so you won’t get that musty smell that cotton sheets usually acquire after a few months. The Cariloha bamboo sheets are also hypoallergenic which is a critical decision point for sheet shoppers. The Cariloha bamboo sheets are a bit more expensive than a traditional sheet set but given how long I usually have sheets, it’s well worth the investment. I don’t see myself ever purchasing anything other than bamboo sheets in the future.

Cariloha bamboo sheets also come with a lifetime quality guarantee so that if you ever have a problem with them, they will replace them for you. Bamboo is a “green” textile which means producing these sheets has a smaller impact on the environment than creating cotton sheets. A big plus if you’re at all concerned about the environment. Cariloha sheets are organically grown and they do not use bleach in the dying process. If that wasn’t enough, they also give back to society.

The sheets come in all sorts of colors to match your bedroom decor and according to their product literature, all their products are softer than any other comparable item in that category. A very high standard they have set for themselves and piece of mind for Cariloha consumers.

How do the Cariloha Sheets Feel?

I’m happy to report that the Cariloha sheets definitely deliver on comfort. As I mentioned earlier, they have a silky feel that’s incredibly soft and pleasant against the skin. I found myself looking forward to getting into bed at night just so I could experience that luxurious sensation.

The sheets are also very breathable, which is important for a good night’s sleep. I tend to get hot at night, so I appreciated the fact that these sheets didn’t trap in heat or make me feel sweaty. Instead, they helped regulate my body temperature, so I could stay comfortable all night long.

Another thing I appreciated about the Cariloha sheets is their moisture-wicking properties. I tend to sweat at night, which can make my bedding feel damp and uncomfortable. However, these sheets did a great job of wicking away moisture, so I didn’t wake up feeling sticky or gross.

One thing to note is that the sateen weave of these sheets does give them a bit of a slippery feel. This can take some getting used to, especially if you’re used to a more traditional cotton sheet. However, I personally found that the slipperiness wasn’t a big issue, and I got used to it after a few nights.

Overall, I’m very happy with the comfort and performance of the Cariloha sheets. They feel amazing to sleep on and offer a great combination of breathability and moisture-wicking. In the next section, I’ll share my thoughts on their durability and maintenance

The Durability of Cariloha Sheets

When investing in new sheets, it’s important to consider their durability and how well they’ll hold up over time. After all, no one wants to spend a lot of money on sheets only to have them start pilling or falling apart after a few washes.

In terms of durability, I’m happy to report that the Cariloha sheets seem to be very well-made. They have a substantial weight to them, which is a good sign of quality, and the fabric feels strong and durable. I’ve been using them for a few weeks now, and they still look and feel like new.

When it comes to maintenance, Cariloha recommends washing the sheets on a gentle cycle in cool water and tumble-drying on low heat. I followed these instructions and didn’t experience any issues. The sheets came out of the dryer looking and feeling great, with no shrinkage or pilling.

It’s worth noting that the sateen weave of these sheets can make them a bit more prone to snagging than a traditional cotton sheet. However, I haven’t experienced any snags or pulls yet, even though I have a cat who likes to knead on the bedding.

Overall, I’m impressed with the durability and maintenance of the Cariloha sheets. They feel like a high-quality, well-made product that will hold up well over time. In the next section, I’ll share my thoughts on the eco-friendliness of these sheets.

Eco-Friendliness

When it comes to choosing bedding, it’s important to consider the environmental impact of the materials used. The good news is that Cariloha sheets are made from bamboo, which is a highly sustainable and eco-friendly material.

Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, and it requires very little water to grow. Additionally, it doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers, which makes it an excellent choice for organic farming. When processed into fabric, bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking, and breathable, making it an excellent choice for bedding.

In addition to using sustainable materials, Cariloha is also committed to eco-friendly manufacturing practices. They use a closed-loop system to recycle water and chemicals during production, which helps reduce waste and conserve resources. They also use renewable energy sources in their factories, further reducing their carbon footprint.

I appreciate the effort that Cariloha is putting into being an eco-friendly brand. It’s important to support companies that prioritize sustainability, and I feel good knowing that my bedding is made from a renewable and eco-friendly material.

In the next section, I’ll share my thoughts on the price and value of the Cariloha sheets.

Price

Now, let’s talk about the price and value of the Cariloha sheets. These sheets are definitely a bit of an investment, with prices ranging from around $140 to $240 depending on the size and color you choose.

However, I do think that the price is justified based on the quality of the sheets. They feel like a luxury product, with a silky-soft texture and a substantial weight that feels like it will last for years. Additionally, the fact that they’re made from eco-friendly bamboo fabric adds to their overall value.

When compared to other high-end bedding options, the price of Cariloha sheets is competitive. For example, a set of 100% organic cotton sheets from a high-end brand like Boll & Branch can easily cost over \$300.

Of course, the price of any product is subjective and will depend on your budget and priorities. However, I do think that the Cariloha sheets are worth considering if you’re in the market for a high-quality, eco-friendly bedding option.

HemingWeigh Acupressure Mat Review

A person wearing a black sports bra and black shorts lies on an acupressure mat with white circular pressure points. The person has their eyes closed and appears to be relaxing or meditating.

Ever since Christmas 2014 I have been enjoying my Acupressure mat from HemingWeigh. This acupressure mat is made up of tiny sets of plastic spikes that don’t pierce your skin. The HemingWeigh model also comes with a head rest although I wouldn’t recommend using that right away until you acclimate to the regular mat. An acupressure mat is designed to promote circulation and relaxation. When I first used it, I lied down on it with a t-shirt on since I was afraid that the spikes would hurt too much. Most sites I have come across recommend using an Acupressure mat for about 15-25 minutes per session.

When you first lie down on the mat you feel an acute sharp poking pain. However, after about 5 minutes your body starts to release endorphins to deal with the pain. At this point you may notice a sort of warming sensation in your back. The pain will dissipate and you will start feeling relaxed. I try not to focus on anything and just let the mat do its work. After about 4 sessions I was able to graduate to using the head rest but you need to make sure its positioned properly to get the full benefit. I wouldn’t say there really all that much benefit to the head rest but it is a nice option if you don’t want your head on the floor.

I stay on my mat for 25 minutes at a time usually at night after I workout and after a shower. I find that lying on the mat help with recovery from my workouts and makes me fall asleep much faster. I’m not sure why that is but if you read through the reviews on Amazon.com you’ll find that many people get this benefit which is why I’m listing in on yawnder.com.

The HemingWeigh mat also comes with a carrying case which is nice if you are going somewhere that you know has uncomfortable sleeping conditions. For maximum benefit you may want to turn on some relaxing tunes and get some aromatherapy going along with a dim, blueblocking light. All this together would make an ideal relaxation/sleep environment.

This is my first Acupressure mat review and I may be reviewing other mats in the future but given the price and the results you get for that price, I think you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better.

I should also not that when looking at other Acupressure Mat reviews, some reviewers have mentioned that the spike pattern on the mats doesn’t differ. So there really aren’t any options for changing the pattern that I’m aware of. The HemingWeigh Acupressure mat is the highest reviewed acupressure mat on Amazon right now and one of the most affordable!

Please let me know your experience using an acupressure mat.

Tuft And Needle Mattress Review Consumer Reports Top Pick!

Tuft

[Tagline]

Welcome to a new era in mattress shopping. The days of going to a mattress store, lying on dozen’s of beds for 10 minutes each and being thoroughly confused with names, models, features, fillings and warranties are over. There are new online start-ups, including Tuft & Needle, that are disrupting the mattress industry and doing a phenomenal job!

Tempurpedic was the first company to introduce consumers to memory foam. For years Tempurpedic was the only game in town until slowly other companies started getting in the memory foam game. However, prices didn’t change all that much and if they did, there was a big sacrifice in quality. Fast forward a decade and there are now all sorts of online mattress companies emerging that are proving to be a quality mattresses.

Tuft & Needle is the first online bed start-up company bed that I have tested. For context, I have been through dozen’s of beds looking for the right amount of support and comfort and so far have not been 100% with any of my mattresses to date. I currently sleep on a king size organic latex mattress from Savvy Rest which is a great mattress but cost me over $3,000. For comparison, you can get a king size Tuft & Needle mattress for $500 including delivery!

Below is my experience with Tuft & Needle from the ordering process to how it sleeps.

Ordering the Tuft and Needle Mattress

What irritates me most about mattress shopping is the over abundance of choices. There’s so many options that you end up getting analysis paralysis. With Tuft & Needle, they only make 1 mattress. No different levels of firmness, no pillows, sheets or other accessories. Why should you be satisfied with only 1 choice? Well, for starters, it allows Tuft & Needle to focus on making 1 really exceptional product instead of multiple mediocre ones. Additionally, if for any reason you don’t like the mattress, they offer a 30 day no hassle return. And really the return process couldn’t be simpler. According to their website, you can donate it to a local charity and then send them your receipt as proof for a full refund. No need to ship back to the company:

To return your mattress, we work together to donate it to a local charity or non-profit. It’s that easy. Once your mattress is donated, send us a scanned or photographed copy of your donation receipt via email and we’ll process your refund in full.

We’re experts at finding donation locations. If you’re unsure of where to donate or need help, just let us know by phone or email [email protected]; we’d be happy to help find places! If we can’t find a donation location, then we’ll coordinate with a 3rd party pickup service free of charge.

The order form is literally 1 page and you just enter your name address and credit card info. You then get follow up confirmation and tracking information (shipped via fedex). It took about 1 week from hitting “order” to the mattress arriving at my doorstep. Tuft and Needle is headquartered out of Phoenix so if you’re in the area, you can test out their bed by making an appointment on their website and going to their local showroom.

Unboxing the Tuft and Needle Mattress

Below is a video of me unpacking the Tuft & Needle mattress. I received  full sized mattress because it fits well on my Lovesac Sactional couch which I use to test beds. Unpacking super easy. For context, the box containing the full size mattress weighs about 50 lbs. so it’s fairly easy to drag into your bedroom for setup and there’s not much packaging left over after you’re done.

Findings of the Tuft and Needle Mattress

I tossed my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress to see how much give it has. See below

Here are some pictures to illustrate the softness of the Tuft and Needle Mattress

And another one…

Tuft and Needle firmness

How does it feel to sleep on a Tuft and Needle Mattress?

I had my first night’s sleep on the Tuft and Needle mattress 3 days ago. This may sound funny but I didn’t sleep well the first night because I couldn’t get over how comfortable it is! It is like sleeping on a marshmallow, not that I’ve ever slept on one but I can imagine this is how it would feel. Like I said I’m primarily a side sleeper and the Tuft&Needle mattress was perfect for it!

There are some reviews online saying the mattress is too firm but I couldn’t disagree more. In fact, it feels a little than my organic latex bed from Savvy Rest. I’m a side/stomach sleeper so I’m a bit more finicky than a back sleeper in terms of need for softness. I have been waking up each time with absolutely no neck or hip soreness. You sink into the bed but it bounces back and rolls with you as opposed to a typical memory foam mattress that takes time to regain its shape.

Check out the Consumer Reports Tuft and Needle Mattress review. Consumer reports ranks the Tuft and Needle above 37 other memory foam mattresses rated! It is rated higher than the Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme.

I had my wife and daughter take naps on the bed and they both love how it feels. My 7 year old daughter wanted to replace it with her old mattress right away.

I honestly see no downside to giving this mattress a try. It is unlike anything I have tested out in the stores and the quality is right up there with mattresses costing at least twice as much. It is the highest reviewed mattress on Amazon right now with 757 customer reviews which says something. Given their generous and hassle free return policy, I strongly recommend giving this mattress a try.

UPDATE JUNE 6, 2015

Having owned this mattress for almost 3 months, I would say that this is a good mattress for stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers can be the most finicky when it comes to comfort and the level for firmness of the Tuft & Needle is perfect!

Tuft & Needle Mattress Unboxing

Close-up image of a white, textured mattress with "Tuft & Needle" elegantly embossed onto its surface. The fabric boasts a dotted pattern for added texture.
Today I received my Tuft & Needle Mattress and was able to do my official Tuft & Needle Mattress Unboxing. Below is the video. The takeaway from this experience is that it was super easy and inflated way faster than I thought it would. You can hear the mattress sucking in air as I cut open the plastic. This was by far the easiest mattress setup I have ever done. You’ll notice that I decided to do the Tuft & Needle Mattress Unboxing in my basement. I decided too put the mattress on my Lovesac Sactional couch in case it needed to air out. While there was that typical memory foam odor, it was wasn’t bad at all! I look forward to sleeping on it tonight and reporting back with my first night’s sleep tomorrow. Enjoy! UPDATE, Please check out my full Review HERE

The 4, 7, 8 breathing trick

What is the 4-7-8 Breathing Trick?

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a relaxation exercise that involves taking a deep breath for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and then exhaling slowly for 8 seconds. This breathing exercise is said to help calm the mind and reduce stress and anxiety.

To perform the 4-7-8 breathing technique, follow these steps:

  1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
  2. Place the tip of your tongue behind your upper front teeth.
  3. Take a deep breath in through your nose for a count of 4.
  4. Hold your breath for a count of 7.
  5. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 8, making a whooshing sound as you breathe out.
  6. Repeat the cycle for 3-4 times or as long as you need to feel relaxed.

It is recommended to practice this breathing exercise daily, especially when feeling stressed or anxious. The 4-7-8 breathing technique can be used as a relaxation tool to help you fall asleep faster, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being.

Why Does the 4-7-8 Breathing Trick Work?

The 4-7-8 breathing technique works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body’s “rest and digest” response. When we feel stressed or anxious, our sympathetic nervous system is activated, causing the release of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which can lead to physical symptoms like increased heart rate, shallow breathing, and muscle tension.

By taking deep breaths and holding the breath for a few seconds before exhaling, we increase the amount of oxygen in our body and slow down our heart rate, which can help counteract the effects of the stress response. Additionally, exhaling slowly through the mouth can help release tension in the muscles and promote relaxation.

The 4-7-8 breathing technique also helps to focus the mind on the breath, providing a sense of mindfulness and present-moment awareness that can help reduce feelings of anxiety or overwhelm. Regular practice of this breathing exercise can train the body and mind to respond more calmly and efficiently to stress, promoting greater overall well-being.

How Many Times a Day Can You Do It?

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is generally safe and can be practiced multiple times a day as needed. It’s a portable relaxation technique that can be performed virtually anywhere, anytime. However, it’s recommended to start with practicing the technique two times a day, for a couple of minutes each time, and then gradually increasing the duration or frequency of the practice as per individual preference.

It’s important to note that if you experience any discomfort or dizziness while practicing the technique, you should stop immediately and return to your normal breathing. In some cases, the 4-7-8 breathing technique may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as asthma or other respiratory problems, and it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new relaxation technique.

 How Did it Become Popular?

The 4-7-8 breathing technique has been popularized by Dr. Andrew Weil, who has been teaching it for many years as a relaxation technique. While there is no direct evidence suggesting that Navy SEALs use this specific technique, it’s possible that they may use variations of this technique or other breathing techniques as part of their training.

Breathing exercises, in general, are a common practice in many military and law enforcement training programs. Controlled breathing techniques can help improve focus, reduce stress, and regulate heart rate, which can be beneficial in high-pressure situations. Navy SEALs and other special operations forces are trained to remain calm and focused under intense pressure, and breathing exercises can be a useful tool for achieving this state of mind.

However, it’s important to note that the specific techniques and methods used by Navy SEALs and other special operations forces are typically classified and not publicly available.

How Else is it Used?

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is widely practiced as a relaxation exercise by individuals and groups around the world. It has been recommended by healthcare professionals, yoga and meditation teachers, and personal development experts as a tool for managing stress, anxiety, and promoting relaxation.

The technique has gained popularity as a simple and accessible tool for reducing stress and improving overall well-being, and it is used by many people in a variety of settings, including in workplaces, schools, and hospitals.

In addition to the 4-7-8 breathing technique, there are many other breathing exercises and techniques that are used by various groups and individuals, such as yogic breathing (pranayama), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and diaphragmatic breathing, among others. Each of these techniques may have unique benefits and may be more or less suitable for different individuals and situations.

Other Breathing Exercises

There are many different types of breathing exercises and techniques that can be used for relaxation, stress reduction, and improving overall health and well-being. Here are a few examples:

  1. Diaphragmatic breathing: Also known as belly breathing or deep breathing, diaphragmatic breathing involves taking slow, deep breaths that engage the diaphragm muscle, which can help promote relaxation and reduce stress.
  2. Alternate nostril breathing: This technique involves inhaling and exhaling through one nostril while closing off the other nostril with your finger, and then switching sides, which can help balance the body and calm the mind.
  3. Box breathing: This technique involves inhaling for a count of four, holding the breath for a count of four, exhaling for a count of four, and holding the breath again for a count of four, which can help regulate the breath and calm the mind.
  4. Kapalabhati breathing: This yogic breathing technique involves forceful exhalations through the nose, which can help increase energy levels, clear the mind, and promote detoxification.
  5. Breath counting: This technique involves counting the breaths, typically up to 10, and then starting over again, which can help focus the mind and promote relaxation.

These are just a few examples of the many different breathing exercises and techniques that can be used to improve health and well-being. The key is to find the technique that works best for you and to practice it regularly for maximum benefits.

Melatonin Shades

Wooden-framed amber-tinted Melatonin Shades are displayed in front of a cylindrical bamboo case adorned with a logo of a sleeping face and the words "THE ME LATONIN D ES CO M.N." on it. The sunglasses and case rest on a gray drawstring pouch.

It’s 8:21 in Minneapolis, Minnesota right now and the sun has set. I am posting this review from my laptop in my bedroom with the lights on. What makes tonight different is that I’m wearing my new Melatonin Shades. These glasses are designed to block out blue light that suppresses natural melatonin production. It is now well documented that screen time at night before bed is bad for quality sleep. Staring at a screen, no matter how small, will emit blue light that tells your body to stay awake. Wearing the Melatonin Shades, my body does not get that message which makes it that much easier to sleep.

So why not just take a melatonin pill instead? I do use melatonin pills on an occasional basis but the effects of long term usage aren’t really known and I am hesitant to use sleeping supplements habitually.

The Melatonin Shades should provide the same benefits. As a plus, it’s a one time cost as opposed to pills that you consume.

The Melatonin Shades themselves are very comfortable and they make everything have a yellow tinge to it. They are perfectly appropriate for using your laptop or phone but I probably wouldn’t want to watch TV for an extended period of time with them.

I can see these glasses being very useful for people who work overnight shifts and need to start their sleep routine during daylight hours.

So far I am very happy with the Melatonin Shades and recommend them to people who just can’t part with their electronics in the bedroom.

Sleep Hacking Tools Polyphasic Sleep

A person lying in bed reaches out to touch an alarm clock on a nightstand. The alarm clock displays "7:00." The image has text overlay that reads "SLEEP HACKING." The background is dimly lit, suggesting early morning or nighttime.

Entrepreneur has another article on the latest trends and research on sleep or sleep hacking. Despite all the claims, the doctor in this article says there’s really no way you can function optimally on a reduced sleep schedule. The article covers the latest sleep hacking gadgets and trends in sleep hacking including poyphasic sleep.

Polyphasic is a method of sleeping in small increments usually no longer an hour at a time so that you aren’t sleeping at all for long periods. People who practice polyphasic sleep say that they can function on less that 5 hours of sleep per day.  Polyphasic sleep was made popular in pop culture by Kramer from Seinfeld who tried it, with poor results!

There are claimes that Tesla and DaVinci also practiced polyphasic sleep but there is really little evidence to back this up.

It will be interesting to see what technology actually is effective in promoting sleep efficiency and sleep quality. I don’t think the sleep hacking trend is going to die down anytime soon. However, I would warn against trying to achieve polyphasic sleep as few if any who try it find it successful and there’s emerging research that your brain is doing work while you are sleeping. People who get the recommended 8 hours of good quality sleep have better memories and moods.

New Sleep Infographic from Donal O’Conghaile

Looking to maximize your sleep time? The latest sleep infographic below from Donal gives very specific instructions on what you should be doing throughout the day to ensure you have the best night’s sleep. Unlike other sleep infographics, this sleep infographic is very specific about what you need to do. Most sleep infographics are full of statistics about the general population which really doesn’t seem to help much in terms of actually learning how to sleep better.

This may be something you could post in your bedroom just as a remind of how important sleep really is. I think it should be in every doctor’s office to show patients. It’s amazing how many maladies stem from lack of sleep and being tired all the time.

Is There Any Money To Be Made In ASMR?

A person with curly hair and a beard smiles at the camera while delicately holding a paintbrush. The scene is almost ASMR-like, as they stand in front of a painting of a serene landscape featuring snow-covered mountains, green trees, a waterfall, and a cloudy blue sky.

Is Bob Ross the Poster Child for ASMR?

Forbes has just taken notice of the ASMR trend and has a decent sized article on the potential to make money with ASMR. The article features Springbok ASMR and details how she got in the ASMR busines and how she makes money with ASMR. Apparently before ASMR grew in popularity, people looked to videos of Bob Ross for their ASMR fix before they knew ASMR was even a thing! The Bucky Pillow Review

A close-up of a pile of dark brown, triangular buckwheat seeds against a white background resembles the filling of a Bucky Pillow. The seeds have a rough texture and vary slightly in size, with some scattered around the main pile.

Ever tried sleeping on buckwheat? Me neither, until I was given an organic buckwheat filled pillow from Bucky. Bucky Inc. is based out of Seattle, WA and has been in business since 1992. According to their website, their manufacturing is increasingly done in the USA. Like bamboo, buckwheat is a sustainable material that Bucky Inc. has made available in the USA.

If you have neck soreness or pain when you wake up in the morning, it could be due to your pillow. I have found this to be especially true with traditional pillows that are filled with down or even foam. A typical nights sleep on these pillows starts out just fine but then I often find myself shifting positions and readjusting my pillow because it has sunk or shifted during the night.

With the Bucky pillow, I was able to mold the perfect support for my head and neck and noticed there was no sinking. Obviously you will still notice some shifting during the night if you change sleep positions but it is very easy to get the pillow back into your favorite position. Sleeping on buckwheat takes some getting used to. The Bucky pillow felt too hard at first, especially against my ear, but after a few more uses I grew accustomed to it. To alleviate this minor discomfort, I could have used a sleep mask to provide another layer of softness. I have already acclimated after just 2 nights with the pillow and it has become my favorite by far.

I had a great night’s sleep with my Bucky pillow. My wife gave it a try the following night with the same results although she also mentioned that it was a bit hard. However, that’s a small price to pay for alleviating neck soreness. And, like I said, the hardness sensation goes away after a few uses. Buckwheat pillows seem to be ideal for back and side sleepers as they provide good spinal alignment.

Aside from the amazing support, the Bucky pillow does not trap heat like a memory foam pillow. This would be a great pillow for people that sleep hot or live in warmer climates. Since it is filled with buckwheat, the pillows are on the heavier side but I see that as a plus since they won’t move around as easily. It also has a pleasant smell since it is made from all natural material. You can even add your own scents such as lavender to the pillow by unzipping the cover and putting in the desired amount.

If you’re in the market for a new pillow and are a side or back sleeper give the Bucky pillow a try. It is a completely different sensation compared to traditional pillows and may be the last pillow you ever need to buy!

The Smaharty Review

The Smaharty black, contoured sleep mask features an eye indent in the fabric, ensuring a comfortable fit around the eyes while effectively blocking out light. With its sleek design and soft material, this mask promises a restful sleep experience.

Smaharty

I recently received a few different sizes and colors of the Smaharty sleep mask. The Smaharty sleep mask is a seamless piece of fabric that fits all the way around your head to block out light for sleeping. What makes the Smaharty unique is that there’s no “right way” to use it. There’s no up or down back or front so it’s extremely easy to put on and easy to store. The Smaharty is made of a fabric designed to wick away moisture so that you don’t get sweaty or uncomfortable while wearing it. It has a very silky feel that is comfortable around the eyes.

Another unique selling point about the Smaharty is that it can also be used as a head band or to make a pony tail. My wife has long hair that can get in the way of a good nights rest and the Smaharty may be just what she needs. She also puts her hair in a pony tail first thing in the morning so if she already is wearing this to bed, she doesn’t have to fumble around for hair bands. Everybody is happy!

The Smaharty sleep mask is perfect for travel. It’s small enough to fit in your purse or even your front pocket if you are on the road or taking a plane trip. I plan to always keep one in my carry on bag so that I won’t forget it on my next trip along with another by my bedside. The Smaharty comes in small, medium and large sizes. The fabric expands enough so that a medium would fit most people comfortably.

I highly recommend adding a Smaharty to your sleep arsenal for both travel and home!

The Smaharty will be available for purchase on May 1, 2015. Retail price is $25 with free shipping in the USA and $5 international.
