Technogel 3D Elite Hybrid Review: The Coolest Pillowtop We Sleep On
The 3D Elite Hybrid is the top of the Technogel mattress line and the one people walk out of our showroom talking about. It pairs the thickest Technogel comfort layer Technogel makes with a pocketed-coil base, so you get pillowtop softness that still holds its shape. If you sleep hot and you want a plush bed, this is the short list.

Quick take
- Price: from $3,999
- Firmness: Medium (6/10) with a plush pillowtop entry
- Feel: Slow, cushioned pressure relief on top of a responsive pocketed-coil base
- Best for: Hot sleepers, side sleepers with shoulder and hip pressure, and couples who want a plush feel that doesn’t sag into a hammock
Construction
- Thick Technogel comfort layer (the deepest gel application in the lineup)
- 3D breathable support foam to move air and heat sideways instead of trapping it
- Individually pocketed coil unit for edge support and motion isolation
- Knit cooling cover with a quilted pillowtop panel
What Technogel actually is
Technogel is an Italian polyurethane gel β not a gel-infused foam, not a gel bead, and not a phase-change fabric. It is a solid gel layer that deforms sideways as well as downward, which is why the surface conforms so closely to a shoulder or hip without pushing back.
The practical difference is heat. Foam insulates; this gel conducts. On our thermal testing the surface stays measurably cooler under a sustained body load than every foam pillowtop we’ve measured, and it recovers faster once you get off the bed.

How it feels
Medium, about a 6 out of 10, with a distinctly cushioned first inch or two. Side sleepers get the most out of it: the gel takes the shoulder immediately and the coils stop the hip from sinking too far. Back sleepers who like a softer surface will be comfortable; strict stomach sleepers will want firmer.
Response is slower than latex but faster than traditional memory foam, so you don’t get that stuck-in-a-trench feeling when you roll over.

Cooling, tested
We run the same protocol on every mattress on our floor: a 30-minute lying load, then surface captures at 1, 5, 15 and 30 minutes of recovery. The 3D Elite Hybrid is the benchmark our other beds get compared against β it both peaks lower and returns to ambient faster than the foam pillowtops we test alongside it.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Genuinely the coolest sleeping surface we have on our floor β the gel pulls heat instead of insulating it.
- Plush pillowtop feel without the quick body impressions you get from soft polyfoam.
- Pocketed coils keep the edges usable and cut partner motion transfer.
- Italian-engineered gel with a long track record in medical and pressure-care mattresses.
- You can lie on it in our Encinitas showroom before you buy.
Cons
- Heavy. This is a two-person mattress to move, and white-glove delivery is the sane choice.
- Premium price β there are cheaper cooling hybrids if budget is the deciding factor.
- The plush entry is not what strict stomach sleepers or heavier back sleepers should choose (look at Pro Foam Firm instead).
- Gel adds weight, so it is not a good match for cheap slatted frames with wide gaps.
5-year cost of ownership
| Purchase price (queen) | $3,999 |
| Expected useful life | 10 years |
| Cost per night | about $1.10 a night |
| Ongoing costs | None beyond a protector; no topper needed and no rotation-driven replacement in our experience. |
Frequently asked questions
Is the Technogel 3D Elite Hybrid good for side sleepers? Yes β this is the model we point side sleepers to first. The gel layer relieves shoulder and hip pressure without letting the midsection collapse.
Does it sleep hot? No. Solid Technogel conducts heat away from the body rather than insulating it, and the 3D support layer moves air laterally. It is the coolest surface on our showroom floor.
Do I need a special foundation? Any solid platform or slatted base with slats no more than about 3 inches apart. It is a heavy mattress, so avoid flimsy frames.
Can I try it in San Diego? Yes. The Technogel lineup is on the floor at the Yawnder San Diego showroom, 1441 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas CA 92024.
How is it different from the 3D Pro Hybrid? Same gel technology, less of it. The Elite has the thicker comfort layer and the plusher pillowtop; the Pro Hybrid is a touch firmer and less expensive.
Verdict
If you sleep hot and want plush, buy this one. The 3D Elite Hybrid is the most complete expression of what Technogel does β the deepest gel layer, the best pressure relief, and cooling numbers nothing else on our floor matches. Skip it only if you need a firm surface or the price is out of range, in which case the 3D Pro Hybrid or Pro Foam Firm cover the same technology for less.
