Helix Dusk Review: The Medium Core Hybrid for Back and Stomach Sleepers
The Dusk is the back-and-stomach counterpart to the Midnight in Helix’s entry-level Core line: the same 11.5-inch hybrid platform, tuned to a medium feel with more push-back through the middle of the bed. It is the cheapest way into a Helix built for people who sleep on their back or front.

How the layers are supposed to work
The stack is short on purpose. A thin gel memory foam quilt gives the surface a little give without letting you settle in, then a 20-IFD Dynamic Foam comfort layer carries most of the contour. Underneath, two responsive foams step the firmness up quickly (24 IFD, then 36 IFD) so hips are handed off to the coil unit rather than sinking through the foam. That fast ramp is why the Dusk reads as medium under a back sleeper and closer to medium-firm under a stomach sleeper — the deeper you press, the harder it pushes back.
Where the Dusk sits against the rest of the line
The Dusk and Midnight share the same coil unit and the same height. The difference is the comfort layer: the Midnight leans on gel memory foam for side-sleeper contour, the Dusk uses a firmer Dynamic Foam that keeps the pelvis lifted. Step up and you get the Dusk Luxe, which adds a pillowtop, a zoned coil unit (13.5-gauge centre, 15.5-gauge edge) and a full reinforced perimeter, and the Dusk Elite, which adds microcoils and a taller build. What the build does well
- Firmness comes from a proper IFD ramp rather than a thick slab of soft foam, which is the right structure for back and stomach sleepers
- 8-inch pocketed coil unit with a heavier 15.5-gauge perimeter for a Core-tier bed
- Least expensive Helix aimed specifically at back and front sleeping
- Same 11.5-inch height as the Midnight, so bedding and bases carry over
Where it is limited
- No zoning at this tier — heavier sleepers get a firmer centre only on the Luxe and Elite builds
- Thin comfort layer means side sleepers will feel the coils at the shoulder
- Core foams are 1.5–2.5 PCF, which is normal for the price bracket but not built for a decade of service
- Yawnder has not measured it yet, so there is no independent cooling, motion or edge figure to hold against the spec sheet
Who should buy it, and who should not
Buy it if you sleep on your back or stomach, weigh roughly 130–220 lb, and want a hybrid under the premium tiers. Skip it if you are a strict side sleeper (look at the Midnight), if you weigh over about 250 lb (look at Helix Plus or the Plus Luxe), or if you want zoned lumbar support — that starts at the Luxe tier.
Common questions
Is the Dusk firmer than the Midnight? Helix rates both medium, but the Dusk’s comfort layer is firmer, so it feels more supportive under the hips and less contoured at the shoulder.
Does it work on an adjustable base? Helix states that every current model, including the Core hybrids, is adjustable-base compatible.
