FitMe Pillow: A Much Needed Modern Adjustment to the Traditional Buckwheat Pillow

Buckwheat pillows, as a stand alone product, most likely do not excite the typical consumer. They aren’t soft and fluffy like most items we associate with when we think of the word “pillow,” so what makes them appealing to a consumer? Why would people buy them in the first place and how is the FitMe Pillow different?

fitme pillow with bamboo case

There’s no doubt that a plethora of individuals have given up comfort in search of a healthier pillow, one that can yield substantial neck and head support. It can be difficult to find a pillow that can provide optimal spinal alignment, allowing one to minimize neck pain, muscle spasms and general cramping from incorrect sleeping positions. There’s a reason why the Japanese have been sleeping on buckwheat pillows for the past 600 years. For Americans however, the concept is still one we are trying to wrap our heads around.

Overview of the FitMe Pillow

fitme pillow unboxing

When it comes to the FitMe Pillow, the inventor strove to do something different and that is blend the comfort of foam pillows with the support that buckwheat pillows have been proven to provide. This idea may seem overly basic to some but in reality, it’s pretty innovative as it hasn’t really been executed before..

Construction of the FitMe Pillow

This FitMe Pillow contains two main materials: buckwheat hulls and foam. It’s that simple. The inventor calls this combination an interlocking filling. While the buckwheat provides support, the foam provides loft and is also able to lock in the buckwheat hulls so that they stay in place.

This is all then packed in a pleasant quilted bamboo pillow cover.

The ability to customize the pillow, with additional foam and buckwheat (which come included), also gives it more appeal.

A single Fitme Pillow retails for $49.95 on their official website, while a double-pack sells for an awesome discount of $75.

My FitMe Pillow Findings

Buckwheat pillows are interesting, not only for the sleep benefits they provide but for all the other purposes it’s used for.

  1. They’re natural and they’re even considered to be hypoallergenic

This makes buckwheat pillows a great option for people with allergies.

  1. They have a cooling effect

Because organic buckwheat is resistant to pressure, air is able to pass through the pillow, allowing you to sleep cool and not wake up in a sweat

  1. They provide support

Because buckwheat hulls do not compress, the pillow is designed to form around your head and neck like a mold.

  1. They’re adjustable

This means that if it isn’t perfect the first time around, you can easily try again and adjust the pillow to your liking.

Now that you know the benefits, you might be wondering, “Wait a minute, what exactly is buckwheat anyway?”

Buckwheat is a plant cultivated for its grain-like seeds and as a cover crop. Despite the name, buckwheat is not related to wheat, as it is not a grass. Instead, buckwheat is related to sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb. Because its seeds are rich in complex carbohydrates, it is referred to as a pseudocereal. (Wikipedia)

It’s used in food as well as beverages such as beer, whiskey and tea, and of course, as the occasional upholstery filling. Because buckwheat is gluten-free, it has been used in the same way as barley to produce a malt that can form the basis for what will be a gluten-free beer.

(Due to the reasons above, only the exterior cover of the pillow can be machine washed. If the buckwheat hulls are soaked, they need to be replaced.)

My FitMe Pillow Recommendation

fitme pillow natural pillow

The story behind the creation of the pillow is pretty interesting. Many people are aware of how overly firm buckwheat pillows are and the FitMe Pillow creator not only echoed that but decided to offer a solution. He strove to make it a softer pillow but of course, not too soft (otherwise the support would be lost.)

If you’re not convinced of the health benefits of it, which are chronicled to excess all over the web, I think it’s an interesting buy nonetheless just for the sheer novelty of the product. In truth, there are genuine reasons why buckwheat pillows have developed a fan base and why they are seen to be effective but it may just take your own trial to become convinced.

The one thing I will point out regarding this pillow is that it’s typical for the buckwheat hulls to fall to the bottom of the pillow, while the foam rests near the top. That being the case, it’s probably a good idea to give it a bit of a shake and turn so that both materials can be nicely mixed.

And lastly: keep this away from your children, or at least keep them ignorant of the fact the pillow is customizable unless you want a mess. 🙂

tuft and needle pillow review
Bottom line

The Tuft & Needle Pillow is an all-foam pillow praised for its exceptional initial softness and cooling technology. It is best for back and stomach sleepers, but side sleepers may find it loses loft and support over time. Its blend of memory foam and latex with cooling gel provides a neutral sleep temperature.

The Tuft & Needle pillow is a foam pillow that is designed to be soft yet supportive. It is made with T&N Adaptive Foam, which is a proprietary blend of memory foam and latex. This foam is infused with graphite and cooling gel to help keep you cool while you sleep.

The Tuft & Needle pillow is available in two sizes: standard and king. It is also hypoallergenic and CertiPUR-US certified, meaning that it is free of harmful chemicals.

The Tuft & Needle pillow is a popular choice for back and side sleepers. It is also a good option for people who sleep hot, as the cooling gel helps to keep the pillow temperature-neutral.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the Tuft & Needle pillow:

Pros:

  • Soft yet supportive
  • Cooling gel helps to keep you cool while you sleep
  • Hypoallergenic and CertiPUR-US certified
  • Available in two sizes
  • 3-year warranty

Cons:

Overall, the Tuft & Needle pillow is a good choice for people who are looking for a soft yet supportive pillow that will help them to sleep cool.

Overview of The Tuft & Needle Pillow

Tuft & Needle has decided to break the norm by creating a pillow that unlike so many others isn’t adjustable. Their one-size-fits-all approach has resulted in a pretty beautiful, sleek and breathable foam pillow. It’s also super-duper eco-friendly meaning it’s safe for your mind, body and soul!

tuft & needle pillow displayed on a sofa

Construction of The Tuft & Needle Pillow

The Tuft & Needle Pillow is designed to work for all sleep types. It’s made of custom cut T&N Adaptive Foam (their trademark) which consists of graphite and cooling gel beads (meaning it’s thermoregulating), not that there are any “beads” that you see or feel. It’s a pretty sleek and uniform looking product and it’s packaged in a beautifully crafted soft micro polyamide and polyester pillowcase. It’s meant to help you sleep cool and honestly, it looks pretty cool too. It’s just designed SO WELL.

It comes in two different sizes: Standard and King. The Standard pillow retails for $75 while the King size is only an additional $25 on top of that, which is not too shabby. Tuft & Needle is offering a 100 Night Trial and the pillow comes with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. The pillowcase is washable, however the foam and foam encasement is not; it’s recommended that you spot clean it if needed.

It has three different certifications in the name of both health and environmental safety and sustainability. They are: STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certified (16.HUS.79211, Hohenstein HTTI), GREENGUARD Gold certified and CertiPUR-US® certified. This pillow is also hypoallergenic.

Standard Size 16” x 25” x 5”
King Size 16” x 34” x 5”

Setting Herculean Standards for the Mattress, Pillow and Bedding Industry

Most companies release pillows with only one or two of the previously mentioned certifications. Okay, let’s be frank: some with none at all. Tuft & Needle’s towering standards and expectations (it’s a good thing!) in the name of health and environment should bring any decent person to their feet and competitors ought to be paying attention—whether they care for the environment or the health of others or not. It’s not a nice thing to talk about but the reality is that some companies don’t care and anyone who has a good marketing campaign will make sure you can’t tell the difference.

T&N is one of the first to offer a product with a trio and the fact that these certifications have become common makes it apparent that it’s because consumers aren’t afraid to make demands. Although this brings something else to mind: Since people seek it and companies are quick to provide it, the fact that T&N decided to get three different certifications just goes to show you how much there is to be mindful of. It’s crazy how much something can matter to one certifying organization but could perhaps be entirely irrelevant to another. I’m not trying to make a case study out of the brand but I’m curious why the three certifications? Why not just two? Is it to prove their commitment? That wouldn’t be a bad thing. We ask partners to prove their commitment with a diamond ring and we ask others countless ways to put their money where their mouth is. Or is it because there simply isn’t one certification that can encompass so many different areas of concern?

When you consider the price, this is a BIG portion of what you’re paying for: Assurance and that’s not a small thing. To be assured is pretty significant. Let’s not minimize it. (Think about how a mother can feel assured knowing their child has a cell phone they can reach them on.) You’re not paying for a “label.” You’re paying for the knowledge that various third parties/organizations have had to meticulously investigate and hold accountable these companies and their products. Imagine someone having to take ONE person’s feedback into account and going back and making changes to an original design of sorts. Tweaking it, resubmitting it and so on. Consider what it would be like to be under the scrutiny of a whole slew of people in hopes of passing an exam, or meeting their list of requirements, if you will. It’s that involved and that can’t possibly be cheap when it comes to mass-produced consumer products.

My Tuft & Needle Pillow Findings

The Tuft & Needle Pillow is beautiful. It’s designed well and it’s simple. There’s absolutely no guesswork and it even LOOKS great. You don’t have to fluff it, in fact you don’t really have to do a thing. It’s soft and comfortable (and it has almost zero off-gassing too, which is huge) but where I think most reviewers get it wrong is by trying too hard to make it sound like the one-size-fits-all that it’s creators originally meant and hoped for it to be. The reality is this: Many things aren’t what they seem to be. It’s not exactly a firm pillow so I won’t describe it that way. Heck, it’s not even medium firm. This is a SOFT pillow. The way it appears, because it’s made from a single piece of foam and because foam retains its shape, might give the impression or illusion that this is another “medium firm” pillow but it’s not. The moment you lay on the pillow you will know. The foam compresses significantly to hold space for your melon. It doesn’t dip just a little—it sinks. Due to its intrinsic properties, I think this could be a great product for back sleepers and stomach sleepers but side sleepers, heed caution. There’s no doubt that when it comes to customer reviews that the results are pretty varied here but one of the most common remarks that I found was that this pillow does tend to lose some loft throughout the night. That being the case, while it might seem “supportive” at first (I honestly have no idea how), it most likely won’t stay that way to see the morning.

tuft and needle pillow case details

My Tuft & Needle Pillow Recommendation

The pillow feels like a normal pillow should feel. I don’t want you to think that it suddenly meets mattress level the moment it’s met with any weight BUT if you’re a side sleeper, chances are you need copious amounts of support to avoid waking up with a stiff neck. The type of support that you can’t ever doubt and in my opinion, this pillow is just too soft to meet the requirements of such needy concerns. The Tuft & Needle Pillow is fabulous, aesthetically well executed and made with top-notch materials (you can see it and feel it) but I don’t believe this is a one-size-fits-all. While they nailed “soft and squishy,” I’m not sure “supportive” can really fit into the picture. Supportive is usually synonymous with a certain level of firmness.

Dreampad Smart Pillow Review

A packaged "dreampad" with a logo featuring a dragonfly and the tagline "sound you can feel!" showcases a person resting their head on a pillow. The packaging highlights Bluetooth and iOS app compatibility, making Dreampad an essential sleep accessory.

The Dreampad pillow is an innovative sleep aid that uses patented Intrasound Technology to transform sound into therapeutic vibrations, promoting relaxation and better sleep. It is ideal for individuals struggling with insomnia, anxiety, or seeking to mitigate disruptive noises. While beneficial for various sleep issues, those who prefer complete silence for sleep might find the concept too intrusive.

The Dreampad pillow is a unique pillow that uses Intrasound Technology™ to convert sound into gentle vibrations that travel directly to your inner ear. This helps to calm the mind and body, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

The Dreampad pillow is available in three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm. It is also available in a variety of colors to match your bedroom décor.

To use the Dreampad pillow, simply connect it to your smartphone or tablet and play your favorite calming music or nature sounds. The pillow will then convert the sound into gentle vibrations that you can feel, but others cannot hear.

The Dreampad pillow is a great choice for people who have trouble sleeping, as well as for people who simply want to relax and de-stress. It is also a good choice for people who live in noisy environments, as it can help to block out noise and create a more peaceful sleep environment.

Here are some of the benefits of using a Dreampad pillow:

  • Helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Blocks out noise
  • Creates a more peaceful sleep environment

If you are looking for a way to improve your sleep, the Dreampad pillow is a great option to consider. It is comfortable, effective, and easy to use.

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to try out the Dreampad pillow. The Dreampad is a pillow that plays music that is only audible to the person lying on it. It uses a unique method called Inrasound Technology. According to their website, here’s how it works:

Intrasound Technology™ replicates this natural process by using electromechanical transducers to convert the electrical signals of the music into vibrations. The vibrations are carried by bone to the area surrounding the inner ear, which plays a key role in our hearing, balance, coordination and our ability to filter out unwanted noise. It is also an area which is connected to our Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) through the Vagus Nerve.

The Dreampad has an audio jack built into it and you can plug it directly into your phone or mp3 player. It also has a free app that you can get on the Google or iTunes store that comes with music to help you fall asleep. If you really want to go all out you can also purchase a bluetooth adapter if you would rather the phone be further away from you and you don’t want to deal with cords.

The Dreampad is a relatively new product but they have already conducted some very promising research. Tests on veterans with PTSD have shown that they are able to fall back asleep faster using the pillow and some also have reduced the frequency and severity of nightmares.

Other tests indicate a benefit to children with Autism, ADHD and HRV (heart rate variability).

I have been using the Dreampad for the past 3 nights and love it! The app is very easy to use and all the music is extremely relaxing and not overpowering. You sort of forget the music is playing but at the same time it keeps your mind from wandering and worrying which used to keep me up at night.

This is also the first time I have ever been able to fall asleep with music playing. I normally just use a white noise machine. I woke up at 3am last night and noticed that the music was still on only after I got up to go to the bathroom and laid back down on the pillow.

I am really excited to try ASMR with the Dreampad. I have friends that love ASMR but do not like playing it through a stereo since it can be annoying for a spouse that doesn’t do ASMR. I had the volume on my Dreampad at about 50% and when I lifted my head off the pillow I couldn’t hear anything, neither could my wife sleeping a few inches away.

If you or your child has Autism or ADHD, the Dreampad also has some promising research to indicate that it promotes better rest for Autistic or ADHD individuals. The full report can be found here. This is the first ADHD and Autism pillow I have come across.

Since the Dreampad is so new, I think we are only starting to see what it can really do in terms of benefiting sleep and over all mental health. There’s some promising preliminary studies with the DreamPad that indicate it also helps alleviate symptoms of PTSD and ADHD.

Since the app is free, I imagine they will be updating it on a regular basis with new music.

Dreampad Pillow Research

here is limited research on the Dreampad pillow, but the existing research shows promising results.

One study, conducted by Columbia University Medical Center, found that the Dreampad pillow can help to reduce nighttime awakenings. The study participants were randomly assigned to use the Dreampad pillow, a meditation app, or a sleep hygiene program. The Dreampad pillow group experienced significantly fewer nighttime awakenings than the other two groups.

Another study, conducted by the University of California, San Francisco, found that the Dreampad pillow can help to improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans. The study participants were randomly assigned to use the Dreampad pillow or a placebo pillow. The Dreampad pillow group reported significantly better sleep quality and reduced symptoms of PTSD than the placebo group.

While more research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of the Dreampad pillow, the existing research suggests that it may be a safe and effective way to improve sleep quality and reduce stress.

Here are the citations for the two studies mentioned above:

  • Gutman, S. A., & Patel, M. (2016). Comparative effectiveness of three occupational therapy sleep interventions: A randomized controlled study. American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 70(5), 7005210060.
  • Schoenwald, S. K., & Woods, B. L. (2019). The efficacy of the Dreampad in influencing sleep behavior in military veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Military Medicine, 184(1-2), 53-58.

Please note that these are just two studies, and more research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of the Dreampad pillow.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dreampad Smart Pillow Review

Reflex Pillow: A Side Sleeper’s Dream

The Reflex Pillow was specifically designed to relieve and eradicate the neck pain and back pain that is usually a result of inadequate support during sleep. But even more, the Reflex Pillow is best suited for side sleepers.

reflex pillow unbox

Sleeping on your side, for those that do, just feels natural. It’s even how we prepared ourselves for the real world while still in the womb. There is a certain comfort to it that is difficult to shake, and even more difficult to shop for. So many pillow manufacturing companies try to create products that are a one-size-fits-all but this rarely works.

Overview of the Reflex Pillow

reflex pillow overview

Noel O’Conner, the Irish inventor behind the Reflex Pillow, is a specialist in the treatment of back and neck pain since 1987.

After having to both see and treat countless patients, he was motivated to create a pillow that could alleviate so many of the issues that come from poor sleep such as neck pain, spinal alignment, sleep apnoea, snoring, insomnia and even teeth grinding.

  • Most ideal for side sleepers
  • Created in Ireland
  • Reflex foam is 50% softer than memory foam
  • An expensive pillow no doubt but with the quality to match
  • Item must be purchased directly through the Reflex Pillow website
  • Shipping is $30 (since it’s coming to you from Ireland)
  • They have a 14-day return policy

The Reflex Pillow is fully patented and trademarked. It is also an approved medical device and CE certified.

CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA)The Reflex Pillow retails for €79.00 which comes out to be roughly $97.53. Being that it’s being shipped to you directly from Ireland, shipping on top of that is €25.00 which is roughly $30.87. The pillow can only be purchased directly through their site.

Construction of the Reflex Pillow

The Reflex Pillow is 610mm long x 412mm wide x 110mm high. In inches that means it’s  24” long x 16.22” wide x 4.33” high. It has a flat bottom base along with a shaped top surface. It weighs 2 kg which is about 4.4 lbs. It’s suitable for all standard pillow cases.

It’s specially formulated with a non toxic foam material, also known as Reflex Foam, which was specifically created to be used in this product. Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam.

My Reflex Pillow Findings

I really consider the Reflex Pillow to be a substantial and high quality product. Given it’s price that’s precisely what it should be and that’s exactly what it is. While it isn’t said to be for side sleepers only, this is the impression that I was given when reading this:

reflex pillow directions

The Reflex Pillow is constructed with some amazing contouring. It’s a pillow that finally pays mind to the all of the details of the body when considering the head, neck and shoulders. There is an anti-headroll ridge in the center, there are 2 head dips, as seen in the image above, and then there is a neck support and shoulder slot. And let me tell you, that shoulder slot is heavenly.

In in the information guide that came with the pillow, there is no indication of how to sleep on the Reflex Pillow if you were sleeping on your back because I don’t believe it was designed for that. If it were, why else have the ridge in the center?

I am usually reluctant when it comes to foam pillows but this one is really different because it’s not created with memory foam. In fact Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam. Reflex foam is soft, comfortable, pleasant but also supportive. When laying on it for the first time I could tell that it still provides adequate support for the neck and shoulder. Overall it gives stability without feeling stiff.

My Reflex Pillow Recommendation

One of the first things that stood out to me about the product was the passion involved in creating it. Noel O’Conner, a back and neck pain specialist, put himself out there on crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo to fuel his dream and create a product that would be effective in helping people overcome their neck pain and spinal alignment issues. He ended up raising twice the amount of his original goal, which gave me the awesome opportunity to try it.

reflex pillow kickstarter

The pillow is costly, there’s no doubt about that but you pay a high price for high quality goods, that’s just the reality. I also actually like that you have to purchase it from their website directly. It says a lot about how important it is to the company to handle their own product and their own customer service. For people who are truly suffering with pain from sleeping or pain overall, that can easily worsen with poor pillow support, the Reflex Pillow is absolutely worth the investment. I’ve slept on it only for 1 night so far but can’t express just how impressed I am with it. It looks and feels like a high quality product in every way. Reflex Pillow’s 14-day money back guarantee is also comforting.

Purple Cloud Pillow by Purple

Purple is known for it’s strange and innovative products so when they decided to release a more traditional type of pillow, I wasn’t sure what to think. This pillow doesn’t claim to be everything that it’s not. It’s customizable, yes, that’s true but not in a way that would bore you and while it is a more traditional take on the pillow, it doesn’t claim to be yet another down-alternative pillow, because it isn’t and it doesn’t feel like one. It doesn’t have to.

Overview of the Purple Cloud Pillow

Purple’s take on a more “Traditional Type” of pillow isn’t exactly traditional, which is why for Purple, it works. They don’t DO ordinary so there had to be something to this pillow that is uncommon. While it is a customizable or adjustable pillow, their approach is different when compared to how others in the industry choose to execute this type of product. Most adjustable pillows mean you pull a zipper to take out or put stuffing in. In Purple’s case, no amount of fill ever leaves the pillow. Instead, the firmness can be changed by pulling two zippers either open or closed. When both zippers are closed, the pillow has a firmer feel. When they are open, it has a softer feel.

For those who aren’t entirely convinced, the pillow comes with a 100-Night Trial and for those who choose to commit, it also comes with a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

It retails for $49 on their site and considering the brand and the feature of customization, it’s a really fair price. They could have asked for more, given the overall company reputation, but it’s nice they stayed within the realm of more-or-less middle class affordability.

Construction of the Purple Cloud Pillow

The Purple Cloud Pillow is composed of “interlocking denier poly fiber puff balls.” Don’t let the vocabulary sway you though. This is just Purple being unique and poetic with their wording. This is the industry standard pillow fill used in most non-down pillows that aren’t made of foam. Then again, I’m not an engineer and this poly fiber might be more special and specific to the pillow’s function than I’m aware of.

The cover is made of 60% Lyocell and 40% Nylon. It’s designed to be thermoregulating and moisture-wicking. It comes in only one size of 26” X 18” and while this was fine for me, it might not do the trick for larger people, as it is kind of standard. Too standard for Purple standards. It weighs 3.6 lbs and while that already sounds like too much, it’s actually crazy light. Light and fluffy like a cloud. I’ve tested quite a few pillows and this one is among those that weighed the least.

My Purple Plush Pillow Findings

I was absolutely stunned to find that the pillow isn’t just a gimmick. It seems too good to be true: a pillow whose loft is adjustable without needing to remove or add any filling. But how can that be? The best way I can explain the function of this pillow is to compare it to a closed bag filled with air.

The more air it has inside, the more compressed it’ll be so the firmer the bag will feel overall. The less air it has inside, the less compressed it’ll be so the softer the bag will feel if you were to lay or press on it. Despite the fact that this is a pretty simple concept that would make sense to most people, when it came to the application of it in the actual pillow itself, I was surprised the airflow, which is regulated by the opening or closing of zippers, made a difference in how the pillow felt. Structurally, it makes sense it would work but we’re not talking about a closed plastic bag filled with air, we’re talking about a pillow, something that requires airflow. I guess that’s where the engineers come in. So does it make a difference? Yes. Opening the zippers did in fact make it softer and closing them did make it firmer.

As for the other elements of the pillow and product overall, I give it an A+ all around. The packaging was discreet at the door but loud upon opening. I appreciate the branding effort Purple puts into their products (the bold color, the large font typeface, etc) and customer experience overall. The pillow cover material is lovely. It has a bright white color, a luxurious sheen and a soft pleasant touch. The zippers are premium quality, not something one has to fear will break easily.

I found it to be more supportive than a down pillow and more firmer than one too. For someone who needs solid neck support, I’m not 100% this will be enough but then again, I have more neck and shoulder spasms than anyone I know so I can’t deny that my disposition calls for some extra TLC.

As a side note, the pillow is FULLY washable which is a really nice feature.

My Purple Cloud Pillow Recommendation

After having slept on the Purple Plush Pillow for about a week now, I have to say that I like it quite a lot. The ability to customize the loft by way of pulling two zippers is pretty incredible for someone who has changing needs or if it’s meant to serve as a gift. I like a softer feeling pillow and this one suits me just fine. The only thing I’m uncertain of is it’s thermoregulation. I have slept hot a few nights in a row with this pillow so I’m not sure what to make of it. Unfortunately when it comes to that, that’s something in which results do vary but I do like the pillow and I’m not looking to give it away anytime soon.

Why side sleepers need a tall, firm pillow

Side sleeping creates a gap between your ear and the mattress that needs filling — otherwise your head tilts down, kinks your neck, and causes shoulder pain. The right loft is 5–7″, firm enough to hold its shape all night.

What to look for in a side-sleeper pillow

  • Loft 5–7″ — tall enough to fill the shoulder-to-ear gap.
  • Medium-firm — holds shape all night without collapsing.
  • Adjustable fill — broader shoulders need more loft; narrower shoulders less.
  • Memory foam or shredded foam — contours and stays put. Down compresses unevenly.

Leesa Pillow Review

Leesa Pillow
Bottom line

The Leesa Pillow is a high-quality Avena foam pillow designed for excellent comfort and support, offering a bouncy yet adaptive feel. It is ideal for those seeking a cool sleep surface and pairs perfectly with a Leesa mattress, though some may find the firmness not to their personal preference. The 30-night sleep trial significantly reduces purchase risk.

All Leesa pillows are made with high-quality materials and are backed by a 30-night sleep trial. If you are not happy with your pillow for any reason, you can return it for a full refund.

Leesa pillows are generally well-reviewed by customers. Many customers praise the pillows for their comfort, support, and quality. However, some customers have found that the pillows are too firm or too soft for their liking.

If you are looking for a new pillow, Leesa is a good option to consider. The company offers a variety of pillow types to choose from, and all of its pillows are backed by a sleep trial.

I recently received a Leesa Pillow for review. The Leesa Pillow is a great choice for people who have recently purchased a Leesa mattress or are looking for a soft and supportive pillow that won’t literally let you down at night. If you are wondering if a Leesa mattress is right for you, check out my review. This pillow was specifically designed to work in conjunction with the Leesa mattress but on it’s own feels really nice and I would recommend using it with just about any memory foam mattress.

Overview of the Leesa Pillow

The Leesa Pillow has the look and feel of the Leesa mattress. By that I mean that the cover of the pillow is the same knit fabric used for the cover of the mattress and the inside of the pillow is made with Avena foam, the same foam used on the top layer of the mattress to give it the bouncy springy feeling that still provides great pressure relief and support.

Here’s a video overview of the pillow with me on the Leesa mattress.

A standard size currently retails for $75 and a king size for $95 which you can buy direct through their website. To complete your set you can even buy the Leesa blanket which also is made with the same fabric found of the cover of the mattress. It is cozy and heavy enought for comfort you but not too thick as to make you overheat. Perfect for a couch and late night Netflix binges.

The Leesa pillow comes in a box like the one below. It’s not shrink wrapped so is ready to use right out the box.

Leesa Pillow Box

Out of the box you will find that it is wrapped in plastic to protect it from getting dirty in transit. There’s also a nice card that talks about some of the charitable work that the company has done.

Our much-loved Leesa cover is made from the highest quality materials. It’s so soft and breathable.

My Leesa Pillow Recommendation

I would especially recommend this pillow if you are going to buy a Leesa matttress. It definitely works well with the mattress since they are made of the same materials. Having both the pillow and the mattress gives you a constent feel across your entire body.

If you are going to buy the pillow alone. I recommend it for people looking for a cool pillow that has a little bounce to it. It feels very similar to a soft latex pillow. The inside of the pillow has holes in it to allow for extra breathability.

Here’s a peek at the inside of the pillow.

Leesa Pillow Inside

As mentioned in the desription, the cover is removeable and washable. Heres a sideview of the pillow where you can see the zipper.

Below is a video that shows how responsive the pillow is. Again, this is very similar to how a latex pillow behaves. The difference is that it will contour a bit better than a latex pillow and won’t push back as much.

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Getting water on your pillow may sound like the last thing you would want but not in this case. For those in need of some serious neck support and neck pain relief, the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow might interest you. Especially considering that waterbase pillows are clinically shown to improve sleep, as well as reduce neck pain overall but don’t worry; there will be more on that later.

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is a polyester pillow with a water base attached on the bottom. Sleep seekers are able to fill the water base to their preferred amount (up to 5 liters of water at a maximum) to reach their desired level of pillow firmness. Mediflow operates within the US and the pillow is also manufactured within the United States. Overview of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Below is a video unboxing, demo and review of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow. It has a nice starting point to begin with, in terms of firmness. I would say that without any water at all, that the pillow has a medium firm feel.

Construction of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Findings

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow looks like any old pillow until it’s turned to the back, where the water chamber is. Getting acquainted with the technology is a bit of a funny feeling because the concept is so unique.

mediflow waterbase chamber

Opening the cap on the waterbase was easy, and the blue nozzle that comes included in the packaging was actually designed to help in this regard. So for anyone with long nails, or weak hands, fear not.

Mediflow provides you with a flow chart that is meant to serve as a guide on how much water you should be using. I found that the easiest way to fill the pillow was by reusing a 1 liter bottle from an empty bottle of water. A full liter isn’t sufficient enough. You will need at least 2 liters (which is considered to provide soft firmness) to feel any substantial difference.

Pouring water into the waterbase was simple and kind of fun but I do suggest to do this slowly. I ended up with a small spill myself from looking away for just a moment. How you hold the nozzle will dictate how slowly or how quickly the pillow takes the water.

Once you’re done pouring your desired amount of water into the water base chamber of the pillow, comes the important step of removing the air pocket. This is pretty important, so as to avoid having both air and water in the pillow- which can cause issues when pressure is being applied to it, like there will be when you’re sleeping on it. When putting the cap back onto the waterbase, it is suggested that you use the blue nozzle to close it and tighten it. They include a diagram with the packaging to show you how to do this most effectively.

My Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Recommendation

The reason I am most impressed with the pillow is because there was actually a clinical study conducted to research the effectiveness of waterbase pillows. The study was published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and can be found on pubmed.gov, a US National Library of Medicine, sharing findings from the National Institutes of Health. That specific study can be found here.

The conclusion of the study entitled “Cervical pain: a comparison of three pillows” found that:

“The water-based pillow was associated with reduced morning pain intensity, increased pain relief, and improved quality of sleep.”

The other two pillows that it was compared to was the subject’s usual pillow and a roll pillow. Below is a screenshot of the actual study conducted:

The study alone made me feel that trying the MediflowWaterbase Pillow would be a wise experiment for someone with cervical pain or general neck tension and stiffness
.

The common symptoms of cervical degenerative disc disease is having neck pain and stiffness. That being the case, people with this type of particular health issue, need to take precautions on how they sleep, in terms of both mattresses and pillows.

On another note, some online reviews from people who have used the pillow, or are currently using the pillow, mention the possibility of the pillow leaking. This means how you tighten the cap of the waterbase chamber is especially important. Keep in mind to make use of the nozzle that comes with the pillow.

Pillows are recommended to be washed every 3 months so I think if you were to wash this pillow, it would be best to hand-wash it. However, over time that may affect the functionality of the pillow overall. Pillows are recommended to be replaced every 6 months so that’s something to also think about but Mediflow’s one year warranty on manufacturer defects can at least provide some comfort if any issues were to arise within that 1 year window.

Overall, I think the pillow is a really interesting and creative find. Knowing that a clinical study was conducted, even if on a relatively small sample size (41 individuals, but specifically with cervical issues) can shed some light on what this type of waterbase pillow can provide for individuals both with and without health issues.

If you’d like to give the pillow a shot yourself, you can find it here on Amazon.

Overview of The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow

8hours 8 hours adjustable pillow

The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow is essentially suitable for everyone thanks to its customizable design. Whether you are a side, stomach or back sleeper, this pillow can work for you. The company offers an 88 Nights No-Risk Trial. The pillow itself retails for $95 and you can buy a multi-pack to receive anywhere from 2, 3 or 4 pillows at a discounted rate. If you order 4 pillows, you get one for free. Shipping is a flat fee of $5 for all US orders and returns are free, so long as it's shipped within the states. The pillow is designed and assembled in Italy (Molto bene!). 8Hours gives you the option to finance the pillow through Affirm if you so desire. This pillow comes with a 5 Year Warranty which is the longest warranty I've ever heard of for a pillow so I find that very impressive.

Construction of The 8Hours Adjustable Pillow

inside the 8hours adjustable pillow

This pillow comes in a single standard size of  18" x 27.5" with a 2" Loft gusset.

The outer cover is made from a natural cellulose fabric. It's moisture wicking and works to also distribute heat more efficiently so that you can sleep cool. Because of its water resistant properties, it's also designed to be antibacterial. It's both soft and durable and also made from 100% biodegradable and fully sustainable resources.

The foam for this pillow is referred to as MemHex™ Internal Technology. It's pretty interesting being that it's made with a honeycomb shape. The foam comes in its own case, and the pillowcase goes on top of that. This makes accessing the foam easy and convenient and the pillowcase easy to clean.

8hours memhex internal technology foam

Be sure to disperse the foam evenly and to fluff your pillow. Because the foam pieces are rather large, this is important to making sure they all fit and lock into one another.

The pillow is not only Hypoallergenic but is also:

  • Approved by SleepScore Labs
  • STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® Certified
  • Tested for Quality Control and ISO 9001 Registered with SGS

SGS is the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. For a product to be OEKO-TEX® Certified, it has to go through some serious testing and the organization is known to have the highest standards in the industry. This guarantees that the materials have been tested to be free from harmful levels of 100+ different substances. The certification is voluntary, has to be reviewed and updated every year, is conducted by independent third party laboratories and is global, meaning that the standards are the same no matter the country.

My 8Hours Adjustable Pillow Findings

I wasn't sure what to think of the 8Hours Adjustable Pillow initially but the more I lay on it, the more I came to like it. It came packaged in a branded package that was designed well and the unboxing experience was simple enough. Unrolling the pillow was kind of crazy because since most pillows these days come compressed, you usually have to give it some time to catch some air and regain its loft. When the pillow finally came to life, I was shocked with the size of this thing. It was ridiculous! You should really watch the video at least to see this portion because it's amazing how big it became. I thought it would be too much foam to lay on but even without having to remove any foam, it was still incredibly comfortable. I usually like much fluffier pillows but actually felt really pleased and was impressed with how supportive this pillow was. Despite it holding its shape very well, I still found it to be incredibly soft and nice to rest on. While I feel this pillow can definitely accommodate any sleeping style, I think a pillow like this would be especially great for someone who is a side sleeper because getting that support between the neck and shoulder is so crucial to waking up pain-free and well rested.

My 8Hours Adjustable Pillow Recommendation

8hours adjustable pillow logo

I feel this pillow has a lot of promise due to how supportive it is. For anyone with environmental concerns as well, this thing is sure to hit a home run. There is no weird off-gassing or odor, like what can be found in many other pillows so this was a HUGE plus. Who wants to wait hours or even days until they can finally sleep with their new pillow comfortably? It may sound ridiculous but some pillows don't ever stop smelling strange and that will not and is not the case with this. So as far as initial unboxing experience, this is something they really nailed. The foam is pretty funny and I wish I knew more about it but every company has their own trade secrets to protect. MemHex™ Internal Technology is trademarked for a reason and trademarking a product and a name isn't cheap so they've taken the steps necessary to protect their creation. The foam is also designed to be used in pillows ONLY. You would never hear of this from anyone else. It's very rare. Almost every company tries to develop a foam that can be used in an array of sleep products but that isn't always sufficient and I'm glad 8Hours is a company that understands this. Some reviewers said the pillow is "lumpy" and while that may appear to be the case, so long as you disperse the filling evenly, you shouldn't feel any discomfort. You are laying on foam after all, not rocks! The foam needs manual help to lock into place with all the other pieces. It just needs a little help to settle incorrectly. I consider this to be a pillow that is made well and one that will help you sleep soundly.

Body Pillow: Must-Have for Best Sleep Ever!

Can a Body Pillow Improve Sleep
Bottom line

A body pillow can significantly improve sleep quality and comfort, especially when a mattress begins to sag. These pillows are particularly beneficial for side sleepers and those seeking better spinal alignment and pressure relief. They offer an effective solution for enhancing sleep without immediately replacing a mattress.

Yawnder verdictEssential for enhanced sleep support · 4.8/5

For the longest time, we have depended on the mattress to solve most of our sleep problems. But even the most expensive mattress begins to sink and gets dips within the first five years. The more the mattress sags, the lower is the support provided to the body. No matter what kind of mattress you buy, you cannot keep it from sagging. Sooner or later, it is going to dip and sag, leaving you with an improper sleep position.

This is one of the reasons why several people change their mattress so often. A sagging mattress has little firmness and fails to provide your body with the support it needs for proper proper sleep. When you keep sleeping on this worn-out mattress, you develop soreness and aches and pains in various parts of your body. You believe that you are suffering from some ailment when the actual culprit is your mattress.

Unfortunately, mattresses will sag. There’s not much to do about it. But instead of relying only on a mattress for proper sleep, why not choose another solution for quality rest? That’s right; we are talking about a body pillow. It is the next best alternative to a mattress for adding in a good night’s sleep. Whether you suffer from medical conditions that make it hard for you to sleep at night or sleep on a mattress that does not provide enough support, a body pillow can make sleeping a more comfortable and relaxing experience.

What Is A Body Pillow?

A pillow that’s narrow and long and runs the entire length of the body is called a body pillow. Initially, body pillows were mostly used by pregnant women for extra support during sleep. But these pillows have gained massive popularity in recent years because they provide support to the whole body when the mattress fails to do so.

A lot of people prefer to sleep with a cuddle pillow. But these pillows are usually small and do not provide support to the entire body. A body pillow is soft and comfortable but firm enough to support the top leg (for side sleepers), torso, back, and arms throughout the night. Body pillows are counted among the best orthopedic pillows and are widely available online, at bedding stores, and

What Is Body Pillows Made Of?

A body pillow is no different than a regular pillow and can be made of a variety of materials. Some of the materials that a body pillow is made of are:

Shredded latex: Body pillows with an outer cotton casing and a shredded latex fill are bouncy and conform to the shape of your body. Shredded latex body pillows are great for those who suffer from neck and shoulder pain because it’s responsive and keeps the spine aligned while hugging the body. Natural latex is hypoallergenic and can be conveniently used by those with allergies.

Memory Foam: Body pillows are also made with memory foam, another hypoallergenic material. Memory foam is breathable and comfortable and also regulates temperature. The firmness of the pillow can also be adjusted according to preference.

Wool: If you want a body pillow that keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, then choose wool. Because wool is a natural insulator, it keeps you comfortable in all seasons. Wool body pillows are comfortable to sleep with, and also keep the back and spine aligned, regardless of your sleep position.

Feather/Down: Although body pillows made of feather or down are soft, they aren’t capable of providing the best support. Besides, feather or down can cause allergies, which doesn’t make them suitable for all.

Wool-Latex Blend: When wool and latex are combined to make a body pillow, it becomes soft and supportive at the same time. The combination of shredded latex and wool gives the pillow a firmer feel, while the wool functions like a natural insulator and promotes breath-ability and circulation. The latex makes the pillow responsive while keeping your spine aligned and helping relieve pressure points.

Kapok: Cotton makes for some of the most breathable and comfortable body pillows. Kapok cotton is used to make organic body pillows, which have the same fluffiness of down without the feathers. Cotton pillows keep you cool on hot nights, providing proper support for side sleepers, spine alignment, and pressure relief.

Benefits of A Body Pillow

Pillows are used by everyone for comfort. But pillows are also great at providing support to the body. These days, there are orthopedic pillows, which are ergonomically designed to provide support to various parts of the body. There are pillows for the legs, for the back and spine, and for the neck and shoulders. Body pillows combine the support of all pillows into one. If you have a body pillow, you can use it for supporting any part of the body or the entire body.

Some benefits of the body pillow are:

Spinal Alignment: Keeping the spine aligned is of utmost importance when sleeping. When we sleep, we often aren’t aware of our position. This leads to soreness when we wake up. A body pillow keeps the sleeper supported no matter which position he sleeps in, improving spinal alignment and keeping aches and pains away.

Pressure Relief: When we are in a supine position, our body takes the maximum pressure. This is heightened if the mattress isn’t supportive enough. A body pillow provides extra support, relieving the pressure and preventing soreness.

Improved Circulation: When your sleep position isn’t proper, your blood circulation is also poor. A body pillow keeps you supported and comfortable, keeping your sleeping position right and improving circulation.

Diminished Snoring: A body pillow can be used to elevate the upper part of the body, to help with snoring and sleep apnea. Body pillows designed for sleep apnea makes sure that the sleeper remains in a side sleeping position all through the night, helping relieve symptoms of sleep apnea like obstructed breathing, snoring, coughing, and dry mouth.

Body pillows are available at all bedding stores or online marketplaces. Quality body pillows last long and provide ample support for the whole body.

The many ways you can use a body pillow

For Sleeping:

  • Side Sleeping: Hug the pillow in front of you, and place it between your knees. This helps align your spine, hips, and knees, improving your overall sleep posture.
  • Back Sleeping: Position the body pillow under your knees to relieve lower back pressure.
  • Pregnancy Support: A body pillow can be a lifesaver during pregnancy. Wrap it around you for belly support, tuck it between your legs for hip comfort, or use it behind your back for added lumbar support.

Beyond Sleep:

  • Reading or Watching TV: Prop yourself up with a body pillow for comfortable back support while relaxing in bed.
  • Meditation Aid: Use a body pillow to support your head and neck or place it between your knees for better posture during seated meditation.
  • Post-Surgery Recovery: A body pillow can provide extra cushioning and support to sensitive areas after an operation.
  • Relieving Aches and Pains: Target specific areas for relief. Place it under sore muscles, or hug it close for its comforting weight and pressure.
  • Pet Comfort: Many dogs and cats love the security and softness of a body pillow to snuggle on.

Eli & Elm Profile

Eli & Elm entered the bedding world in January 2019 with a goal to create high quality bedding for the average sleep enthusiast. Based in New Haven, CT, their name is an homage to Eli Whitney—the inventor of the cotton gin; and Elm City—the home of Whitney before its name was changed to New Haven. Three Connecticut men were inspired by Eli Whitney’s innovation with the plant, so they took to improving the world of cotton bedding, with aspiring dreams to make the bed a better place for sleep. There hasn’t been much innovation in the textile industry, so Eli & Elm made it their mission to create luxurious and durable sheets for affordable prices. Their work with researchers and engineers has paved the way for eco-friendly advancements in the field while also focusing their resources on making fair trade products that are ethically sound.

Eli & Elm sent me their king-size organic cotton Side Sleeper pillow. The large cushion was rolled up and stuffed inside its long, white shipping box.

I pulled it out and cut away the bag and tape to reveal a gold and ivory pillow shaped like half of a fingertip bandage.

The quilted pillow fabric is extremely soft, and the filling is especially plush and squishy. The front and back of the pillow have “Organic” written stylistically across the pleats, and are joined by a gold suede band.

The seams are hidden and seem durable enough to withstand even the roughest of sleepers. I really appreciate the placement of the zipper, as many zippers that go from corner to corner often get jammed with the interior fabric. When I unzipped the portal to coziness, I was met with tiny noodles of cotton stuffing, which Eli & Elm explains can be removed to adjust height, support, and cushiness for a fully customizable experience.

Side Sleeper Construction

Eli & Elm’s pillow design is not only customizable for all sleepers, but it’s specially designed to benefit side-sleepers. The unique shape gives the head and neck the support they need, which is often not provided by flat pillows. I have two flat pillows that have lost every ounce of support and comfort that they once had, so this has been a long time coming. I couldn’t find any information on how I was supposed wash it, and I’ve had issues in the past with damp pillows, so I gave it an extra hour for good measure totaling 120 minutes on low heat. Once out of the dryer, I could start enjoying the pillow without having to smell the factory in which it was made.

The pillow fabric is comprised of 37% organic cotton, 2% spandex, and 61% polyester; and the fill is made of 75% latex and 25% polyester fiber. Eli & Elm claim that their cotton fabric is breathable, hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, and temperature modulating, so I was intrigued to try it alongside Eli & Elm’s Cooling Whitney Collection. Unlike the Whitney Collection, the Side Sleeper does not utilize Phase Changing Materials in its construction, so experiencing the cooling effects side-by-side would give me an ideal comparison test. In the end, it really did do what they said it would.

My Side Sleeper Findings

The pillow is heavy and kind of unwieldy—if you hold it with one hand, you feel like it will stretch into oblivion, but if you hold it with two hands, it still figures out a way to spill over your arms. When moving the pillow, it feels as though it’s caught somewhere between liquid and solid despite very clearly just being a fabric pillow stuffed with little squishy noodles. When placed on an immovable surface—like a bed—the pillow takes on a whole different personality. The noodles compress under the weight of your head allowing the half-fingertip-bandage shape to conform to your neck. The Side Sleeper feels like a luxury neck pillow made of pizza dough, and I love it. It can be hard to find a pillow that meets all of your greatest expectations, but Eli & Elm got it right this time. No matter which way I slept or rolled, the pillow was always there, giving me the best cushion experience for all sides of my head. It was both supportive and forgiving, which makes it a perfect pillow for literally anyone.

When used simultaneously with Eli & Elm’s Whitney Collection, I found myself in one of the most breathable and temperature consistent sleeping environments ever. Sure, getting into the bed was a bit chilly (my house thermostat is pretty consistently set between 55F and 62F morning and night), but once inside, all the high tech cooling fabric started doing its thing and the sheets and pillow quickly adjusted to my body temperature. After a few days of usage, I was curious what the other side of the pillow felt like since the undersides of pillows are always colder—this one was very cold. In a sleepy daze, I strangely couldn’t tell if the pillow was cold because it was damp or just cold—turns out by perching the Side Sleeper on top of my other pillows (covered with the Whitney pillowcases), I created a kind of black hole for heat in between the two cooling fabrics.

My Side Sleeper Recommendation

Eli & Elm’s Side Sleeper is a magnificent pillow for sleeping, to which I have found no comparison. That said, pillows are generally very versatile and practical, but I don’t think the Side Sleeper shares those traits. Due to its shape, it wouldn’t make for a back or head cushion while playing cards or writing your next novel, and its weight and Jell-O-esque feel make me think traveling with it would be a hassle—its true element is on a bed. The only thing that I’m unsure about at this moment is the stiffness of the pillow. This of course is just a personal problem, because Eli & Elm recommends removing or adding noodles as you go to get the perfect firmness, which I haven’t gotten around to doing. So for all of you prospective buyers and readers out there, if you’re looking for a pillow that is more squishy than firm, make sure you extract some noodles first before deciding it’s not for you! In the off chance the Side Sleeper is just not for you, Eli & Elm has a 45-day risk free trial period so you never have to invest in something you don’t actually like. For me? This is a real keeper and paces miles ahead of the comparable $100 solid bamboo pillow I got online.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eli and Elm Side Sleeper Pillow: Must-Have for Best Sleep

Is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow worth the investment for a better night's sleep?

Yes, its unique design and adjustable filling make it a strong contender for improving sleep, especially for side sleepers. The pillow's support for the head and neck, along with the ability to customize its height, addresses common issues found in traditional pillows, as our San Diego team found during testing. This personalized approach to comfort suggests its value.

Who is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow best suited for?

This pillow is specifically engineered for side sleepers who need targeted support for their head and neck. Its distinctive half-fingertip bandage shape is designed to cradle the head and provide stability, which was a noticeable benefit during hands-on testing. The adjustable filling further allows side sleepers to fine-tune its firmness and loft to their preference.

How does the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow compare to traditional memory foam pillows?

The Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow offers a unique feel with its cotton stuffing noodles, allowing for adjustable loft and a balance between liquid and solid textures, unlike the more consistent density of most memory foam. While memory foam often conforms to shape, this pillow's customizable fill provides a different kind of adaptable support that our testers found distinct. Its organic cotton and latex-polyester blend also contribute to a different material experience compared to synthetic memory foam.

What are the potential downsides of the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow?

The pillow can be somewhat heavy and unwieldy, making it a bit challenging to manage with one hand according to our hands-on experience. While it offers adjustable filling for personalized support, this feature might also require some initial trial and error to find the ideal comfort level. The unique shape, while beneficial for side sleepers, might also take some getting used to for those accustomed to traditional pillow forms.

Is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow good for hot sleepers?

Eli & Elm claims their organic cotton fabric is breathable and capable of temperature modulation, suggesting potential benefits for hot sleepers. While direct cooling effects were not solely attributed to the pillow in our initial assessment, its breathability as an organic cotton product could contribute to a cooler sleep environment compared to less airflow-friendly materials. Further testing in conjunction with the Cooling Whitney Collection indicated a harmonious cooling experience.

Where can I try the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow in person in the San Diego area?

The Luxe Pillow

The Luxe Pillow is a new approach to the traditional pillow. Its most appealing asset is its unique construction, which involves three separate chambers within the pillow. It looks like any other ordinary pillow but its central core is what allows it to provide the support that other pillows might not be able to.

Overview of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow packaging and unboxing

The Luxe Pillow is available in goose down, as well as in a poly-fiber gel, a high-quality goose down alternative. Both pillow types are available in standard and king sizes. Luxe Pillow offers free shipping and returns on their items, a 100-night no risk sleep trial, and they use responsibly sourced goose down. This matters because responsibly sourced isn’t just an indication of company values but of a higher quality product overall.

Construction of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow unboxing and review

The Luxe Poly FiberGel Down Alternative Pillow is available in both Standard and King sizes.

For it’s construction, there is a dedicated core that’s been chiseled out, along with two additional chambers. This core provides stability, not allowing it to fall flat like other pillows might. It is also much more subtle in design than I realized and practically speaking, this is a plus as it’s not something distracting. I tried pushing down on the pillow hoping to find it but couldn’t exactly. I think the subtlety matters. It’s not supposed to be noticeable, it’s just supposed to be effective. That’s the point!

My Luxe Pillow Findings

luxe pillow detail

Luxe Pillow uses sustainably sourced white goose down and small-game waterfowl feather. The way they’ve designed it, to give you the best bang for your buck, is they filled the supportive core with high-quality waterfowl feather, which refers typically to ducks or similar animals, waterfowl are animals that like and live by the water. These types of feathers are either denser or more affordable so they can use larger quantities of it to create that internal support. The two external chambers are filled with goose down to provide the unique softness it’s known for. Despite the feathers, these pillows are certified to be hypo-allergenic and there is a 300 Thread Count Pillow Protector included.

For their down alternative pillows, they use Poly Fiber Gel which is an absolutely wonderful substitute. As someone who regularly sleeps with down pillows, I wouldn’t exaggerate.

To see my thoughts on the Down Alternative Pillow by Luxe Pillow, and to see me compare it to a Goose Down (and only Goose Down) Pillow, take a look at the video below that debuted on the Yawnder YouTube Channel.

The Luxe Pillow® vs The Pillow Guy: Construction, Price & Packaging Comparison

I consider the Pillow Guy company to be a direct competitor because of how similar these price points are, as well as because both cater their marketing to those interested in luxury living and therefore those looking to purchase luxury goods.

In terms of price, Pillow Guy is definitely the more expensive brand. Luxe Pillow, on the other hand, is still trying to bring value to its customers. The biggest differentiating factor in terms of price between these two brands lies in the price of their goose down pillows. I’m including the chart below to help you better understand these costs more clearly.

The reason for these price differences in the goose down products can vary. I’m assuming that it can come down to either quantity/weight of goose down, the quality of the goose down, advertising costs or simply a matter of brand perception.

With the Luxe pillow, the core of their down pillows does contain small-game waterfowl feather. This difference in composition might be what cuts cost for Luxe Pillow, allowing them to charge less for it. Goose-down in the states certainly falls on the higher end of the spectrum, typically of which consumers are well aware of.

The way I see it is if you’re particular about how you like things and you “MUST HAVE GOOSE DOWN,” I’m assuming you’ll disregard the price in exchange for getting what you want. If you, however, want to keep an open mind and are looking to save a little bit of money then the Luxe Pillow is a great alternative. We are talking about a $100 difference for a set of 2 Standard Down Pillows, for example.

luxe pillow branding

Both companies charging the same price for their down alternative pillows makes a lot of sense, being that they’re both constructed with the same material, poly-fiber gel. Their costs for this must be close to identical depending on the quantities it’s being purchased in but I’ll tell you first hand, poly-fiber gel feels amazing. It felt amazing with the Pillow Guy Pillow and it feels amazing with the Luxe Pillow too. I think that both companies offer these at reasonable rates considering these are higher end products that are beautifully constructed.

One thing that stood out tremendously to me is the difference in packaging, referring to the initial experience a consumer has with a company’s product. The Pillow Guy packaging was rather plain but Luxe Pillow went all out and something like this makes all the difference for me. Check out my review of the Pillow Guy Pillow to see what I’m referring to.

My Luxe Pillow Recommendation

luxe pillow letter from founder

Overall I’m quite impressed with the Luxe Pillow and it’s creators. The one thing that’s missing is their company story. I’m curious to learn what it is. Their website doesn’t have an “about” section and that’s a great place where a company can gradually build rapport with consumers. In this time and age brand loyalty is gained not just through the creation of great products but by sharing the WHY of what they do. Simon Sinek elaborates greatly on this topic in his Ted Talk entitled, “How great leaders inspire action.” Companies that are willing to share the story behind who they are and what they make are more likely to provoke an emotional reaction from their customers. Right now, Luxe Pillow, to me, does not have a face and I think it should be wearing someone’s. In my opinion, that’s all they need.

Frequently Asked Questions About Luxe Pillow Review

Is the Luxe Pillow worth the price, especially compared to its competitors?

The Luxe Pillow offers significant value, providing a high-quality, innovative design at a more competitive price point than some luxury alternatives like The Pillow Guy, particularly for its goose down options. While The Pillow Guy’s goose down pillows are generally more expensive, Luxe Pillow aims to deliver premium comfort without the higher cost. The brand also offers free shipping, returns, and a 100-night sleep trial, further enhancing its value proposition.

Who is the Luxe Pillow best suited for?

The Luxe Pillow is ideal for individuals seeking a supportive yet soft pillow with a unique multi-chamber design to prevent flattening. It caters to those who prioritize ethically sourced materials, as it uses responsibly sourced goose down. With both goose down and poly-fiber gel options, it accommodates preferences for traditional down luxury or a hypoallergenic alternative.

How does the Luxe Pillow's construction compare to typical pillows?

Unlike typical pillows that often lose their shape, the Luxe Pillow features an innovative multi-chamber construction with a dedicated core for stability and two surrounding chambers for plushness. The core is filled with denser waterfowl feathers for support, while the outer chambers contain soft goose down. This design ensures the pillow maintains its shape and support throughout the night.

What are the potential downsides of the Luxe Pillow?

The primary potential downside might be that the core uses waterfowl feathers instead of pure goose down, which, while supportive and affordable, may feel different to those accustomed to 100% goose down. However, the external chambers are filled with plush goose down, and both types are certified hypoallergenic. The article also notes the poly-fiber gel alternative effectively replicates down's softness without the associated issues.

Is the Luxe Pillow good for someone who usually prefers a pure down pillow?

Yes, based on hands-on testing, the Luxe Pillow’s blend of sustainably sourced white goose down and waterfowl feathers, or its poly-fiber gel alternative, performed exceptionally well even for those accustomed to pure down. The reviewer noted that the poly-fiber gel alternative surprisingly held its own against pure goose down. This suggests a seamless transition for down enthusiasts.

Where can I try the Luxe Pillow in person?

While the article does not explicitly state the Luxe Pillow is available to try in person at Yawnder, our San Diego showroom in Encinitas, CA, is a great place to explore various high-quality sleep products. Pillow Cube Review: Best Side Sleeper Pillow?

Cubes Pillow
Bottom line

The Cubes Pillow is a unique geometric structure pillow, leveraging 70 interconnected cubes and dual-sided firmness. It is ideal for sleepers seeking advanced neck support and thermoregulation but those preferring traditional pillow designs may need to adjust.

Yawnder verdictInnovative sleep technology · 4.8/5

Overview of the Cubes Pillow

The Cubes Pillow is a collaboration between F1F2 and Nightform Lab. It is the world’s first geometric structure pillow that is made of 70 internal and connected cubes. This is a pillow in which you will not find shredded foam or goose down feathers. It’s construction is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and it even has 2 reversible sides to suit any sleeper, one that is firm and one that is soft. This type of interchangeability is just one out of many of it’s impressive features.

The creators have been on a 2 year journey from it’s initial design to their first shipment of the product.

Construction of the Cubes Pillow

The Cubes Pillow comes in 1 size only and measures 22 x 14 x 4 inches. It weighs 500g and is constructed with graphene nanocomposite foam which can also otherwise be classified as 100% polyurethane. The pillow comes with a modal fiber sleeve made of 95% modal jersey fabric and 5% spandex. The spandex portion means it’s best that it’s air dried, since the heat of a dryer will burn through these fibers. The pillow itself cannot be washed

My Cubes Pillow Findings

The most impressive thing about The Cubes Pillow is how much intention it was designed with. It’s creators have made a valiant effort in proving and educating others on how their pillow is different and why it’s better. There has been countless scientific research that has gone into its creation and refinement. Their marketing effort alone is evidence that their intention isn’t to sell but to inform consumers.

The individual materials used in the Cubes Pillow creation have been specifically chosen for how they can aid in a restful sleep. The graphene nanocomposite foam that they’ve used is designed specifically to be thermoregulating, bacteria resistant and odor controlling. The actual structure of the pillow itself also has purpose behind it. The connected cube formation helps to keep you cool at night since it promotes breathability aka air ventilation.

The structure of the pillow itself does a lot for a sleeper being that it’s created with stress relieving memory foam. Along with the helpful properties of the foam, the Cubes Pillow patented hinge structure “elevates the level of support from two-dimensional to three-dimensional.” Each cube is designed to work as a spring, providing legitimate 360-degree support. When all of these cubes work together, they can both individually and collectively support any weight that is applied to it. This also makes it easy for the pillow to bounce back to its original shape.

Additionally, the modal pillowcase is designed with a high tech fabric that is moisture wicking and also breathable, which further allows one to sleep cool.

The Cubes Pillow has been found to help with snoring issues, insomnia, and also in extending stage 3 and stage 4 of sleep, which are known to be the deep sleep stages which provide the most restorative sleep.

My Cubes Pillow Recommendation

The Cubes Pillow is not a novelty item. This pillow is the future.

Who is the Cubes Pillow best for?

Individuals in San Diego or Encinitas interested in hands-on testing can inquire about availability at Yawnder's showroom.

How does the Cubes Pillow compare to traditional pillows?

The Cubes Pillow differs significantly from traditional pillows filled with shredded foam or goose down due to its innovative geometric structure comprised of 70 interconnected cubes. It is engineered with thermoregulating, bacteria-resistant, and odor-controlling graphene nanocomposite foam, unlike typical pillow fillings.

What are the downsides of the Cubes Pillow?

One notable downside of the Cubes Pillow is its specific care instructions, particularly regarding drying. Best Orthopedic Pillows

Without the right bedding, it is almost impossible to get a good night’s sleep. And without sleep, our whole life becomes bleak. Most people can survive without eating for as long as 30 days, but going without sleep easily takes a toll on us (the world record for going without sleep is of 11 days). That’s because our bodies cannot work 24-hours. It needs a few hours to rest and recharge every day.

Think of our bodies as a machine that needs to be switched off for a few hours every day else the systems will overload and result in a breakdown. However, when it comes to sleep, the proper kind of environment and bedding are crucial. Not only does the wrong bedding interfere with sleep quality but it also causes aches and pains.

Sometimes we tend to get carried away with all the options in mattresses and duvets and forget about one of the essential items of bedding – the pillows. Most people are not aware that a pillow supports seven important bones of the neck, which hold up the head. When the pillow fails to provide support, the neck is strained and so is the head. Regular pillows are usually of a typical shape, and either too soft or too firm. They do not align with the spine or the neck and can lead to strains and pain.

You not only need a mattress that aligns to the curve of your body but also a pillow that contours to the shape of your neck and spine. A regular pillow doesn’t offer this benefit. That’s why you need to use an orthopedic pillow for better support.

What Is an Orthopedic Pillow?

Contrary to perceptions, orthopedic bedding isn’t solely meant for those with medical problems like arthritis, osteoporosis or spondylosis. Anyone who wants their body to be better supported while they sleep can use orthopedic bedding. There are orthopedic mattresses and orthopedic pillows. Their purpose is the same, but for different parts of the body.

An orthopedic pillow is specially designed to provide and support to the neck spine and head while a person is sleeping or lying down. They are also often used to support other parts of the body, such as the knees, legs, and back. Normal pillows come in a very typical design; they are either rectangular or square and fluffy. They don’t really have any special shape. Orthopedic pillows are distinguishable from their design. They are designed according to orthopedic guidelines to ensure proper placement and provide support to any part of the body.

Pillows have been conventionally made with fiber (such as cotton) or foam, but orthopedic pillows are usually made with memory foam. This is because memory foam is a heat sensitive material and acquires the shape of the part of the body touching it. However, it takes a while to get its original shape back when it’s no longer in use.

Orthopedic pillows are also called therapeutic pillows because they claim to provide relief from a number of problems that interfere with sleep. From a back bad, sore knees, stiff neck, to sleep apnea and snoring, different orthopedic pillows relieve a number of ailments and sleep disorders by providing support to different parts of the body. In fact, there’s a pillow available for almost every part of the body, often used together with orthopedic mattresses and cushions.

Types of Orthopedic Pillows

There are several types of orthopedic pillows, designed according to body shape and use. Some of them are:

Cervical or Contour Pillow

This is a sleep pillow that has a curved design and meant to align to the contours of the head, neck, spine, shoulders, and back when sleeping or lying down. A cervical pillow is one of the most common types of orthopedic pillows, used to relieve different conditions like neck pain, stiff neck, frozen shoulder sore back, respiratory distress, snoring and sleep apnea.

Neck Pillow

Also called a travel pillow, this is something often seen and used on a flight. A neck pillow is shaped like a horseshoe and is designed to fit around the neck to keep the head supported during long hours of sitting up. This pillow is useful because when your head is resting against a seat, it does not get the support that it needs, which can lead to neck pain and stiff neck and shoulders.

Body Pillow

This is a long, curvy pillow designed to support the entire body. A body pillow has curves that support the head, neck, shoulders, and back. A body pillow can be used by anyone who needs better support to be able to fall asleep. However, it is highly recommended for pregnant women because of the support it provides.

Knee Pillow

This is an hourglass-shaped pillow that is placed between the legs or under the knee to support the legs and keep the spine straight. Not only does a knee pillow provide support to the lower back by aligning the spine but also prevents friction between the legs. It is often used to promote blood circulation in the legs.

Lumbar Pillow

This is a half-moon shaped pillow that’s used to support the lower back or the legs. While in a seated position, a lumbar pillow supports the lower back and provides the correct posture. While lying down, it can be used to elevate the legs, or even under the neck for support and massage.

Wedge Pillow

As the name suggests, this pillow is shaped like a wedge. It provides a sloping surface to rest any part of the body. A wedge pillow is one of the most versatile orthopedic pillows because it can be used for any part of the body. It can be used to support the leg and the knees or to support the head, neck, and shoulders in bed. Because a wedge pillow keeps the head inclined, it is often used to relieve respiratory distress, snoring, or sleep apnea, or even to relieve symptoms of acid reflux. Wedge pillows come in a single piece or can also be folded.

Water Pillow

If you want the utmost flexibility, nothing beats a water pillow. Simply fill the pillow with water, and adjust the height as needed. The water contours to the shape of the body and provide the ideal support.

How to Choose An Orthopedic Pillow?

Given the different types of therapeutic pillows, it can be difficult to make the right choice. Even if you do not suffer from any physical ailment or sleep disorder, it can be useful to have an orthopedic pillow at home, for those times when you have a sore back or stiff shoulders or want to keep your legs elevated. But regardless of what you buy it for, an orthopedic pillow should be purchased carefully, keeping certain factors in mind.

The following are a few of the factors to consider when buying an orthopedic pillow.

Budget: It goes without saying that orthopedic pillows are more expensive than ordinary pillows. They can be as low as $50 or as expensive as $200. Even before you set out to look for orthopedic pillows, it is important to have a specific budget because if you don’t, your budget will skyrocket. There are orthopedic pillows available in every price range, so it’s best to stick to a budget to avoid spending more than necessary.

Sleep position: Orthopedic pillows are designed according to the different sleep positions. It is recommended that you choose a pillow designed for the position that you usually sleep in. Side sleeping is the most common position followed by back and stomach sleeping. A body pillow is usually meant for side sleepers while a wedge pillow is better suited to back sleepers.

Support: If you are buying an orthopedic pillow because of any sleep disorder or physical condition, you need to consider which part of your body you want to support with the pillow. For instance, a neck pillow is designed to support the head neck and shoulders, while a lumbar pillow is meant to support the lower back and legs. If you end up buying a neck pillow for your lower back, it is not going to serve the right purpose.

Physical Ailments: Orthopedic pillows are designed to provide general support to the whole body or different parts of the body. But if you already have existing physical conditions, you may need the more specialized type of support. In such a case, an orthopedic expert is able to recommend the best type of pillow.

Material: Both regular pillows and orthopedic pillows are made of a variety of materials. But the most common material used to make therapeutic pillows is memory foam. Not only is memory foam soft and supportive, but their heat sensitivity makes them mold to any shape. Latex is another material used to make orthopedic pillows and is a better option for those who suffer from allergies. Like memory foam, latex also molds to the shape of the body and provides support and alignment. The outer cover of the pillow can be of cotton, viscose, or polyester.

Ease Of Cleaning: Pillows attract dust and can get very dirty if not cleaned regularly. When buying an orthopedic pillow, make sure to choose one that’s easy to clean. You should be able to vacuum clean it or wash it with water. Not all pillows allow this, so if you want to wash your pillow, you should get a suitable material.

Top 5 Orthopedic Pillows

Now that we have looked at the type of therapeutic pillows available, their uses, and the materials they are usually made of, it’s time to discuss the best orthopedic pillows that you can buy. Although there are several companies making several different types of orthopedic pillows, here we talk about the top five among them.

snuggle pedic

Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow

The thought of orthopedic pillows brings to mind various curves that force you to sleep in positions you aren’t used to. The vast majority of orthopedic pillows have curves and contours because they are designed to keep your body in place while you sleep. But a pillow can also provide support and alignment even without being curvy. Take the example of the memory foam orthopedic pillow by Snuggle-Pedic. One of the most popular orthopedic pillows today, the Snuggle-Pedic pillow is shaped like regular pillows but has the ability to support the head, neck, and shoulders. It is filled with shredded memory foam and has a breathable, micro-vented, zipper outer cover that can be washed. The pillow is fully customizable.

Priced at $60, this is one of the most affordable orthopedic pillows out there. Don’t be misled by its shape; even though it doesn’t have any fancy curve, it is excellent at providing support and alignment because of the memory foam molds to the shape of the body. Opening the outer cover also allows you to open the pillows itself, to adjust the stuffing inside. The memory foam is hypoallergenic, so even those with allergies can safely use this pillow. What’s more, Snuggle-Pedic also offers a 90-night sleep trial and free shipping. The product is made entirely in the US and easily available on online sites like Amazon.

Pros

  • Fully customizable
  • Healthy and safe materials
  • Great for chronic pain and sleep apnea
  • Machine washable
  • 90-night sleep trial
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Off-gassing required
  • Requires re-fluffing

Nature's Guest Cervical Support PillowNature’s Guest Cervical Support Pillow

If you want a pillow for neck or shoulder pain that’s not made from foam or latex, Nature’s Guest makes this cervical pillow with microfiber. The pillow is designed like a nest with an indentation in the middle and gussets at the edges. The indentation is for the head, and the gussets are for the neck and shoulders. Nature’s Guest Cervical Support Pillow is recommended by chiropractors to those who suffer from neck and shoulder pain and is priced at around $60.

The cervical pillow has a washable cotton cover, and the filling is made of cotton and wood pulp. The firmness of the pillow can be adjusted by removing or adding filling. The cotton in the cover and in the filling helps in breathing and doesn’t make the pillow hot. The neck roll is adjustable and moves your neck back to the right spot even when you move around. Those suffering from degenerative disc problems claim to have used and benefitted from this pillow. However, it is not too suitable for side sleepers.

Pros

  • Great support for neck and spine
  • Two different heights
  • Fully natural
  • Adjustable firmness
  • Breathable

Cons

  • Not suitable for side sleepers

sleep artisan

Sleep Artisan Luxury Side Sleeper Pillow

This is a crescent-shaped pillow designed for side sleepers. It isn’t made with either memory foam or microfiber, but rather it is made with natural latex. A completely healthy and eco-friendly option, this side sleeper pillow is made in California. Frequently Asked Questions About Best Orthopedic Pillows: Must-Have Comfort for Sleep

Is an orthopedic pillow worth the investment for someone without chronic pain?

Yes, an orthopedic pillow is a worthwhile investment even if you do not have chronic pain, as it enhances overall sleep quality by supporting the neck and spine. These pillows maintain natural spinal alignment and can prevent discomfort from developing over time. You can experience the benefits firsthand by visiting our Encinitas, CA showroom.

Who would benefit most from using a body pillow?

A body pillow is particularly beneficial for pregnant women, as it provides full-body support for a more comfortable sleep position. These long, curvy pillows can also help other individuals seeking comprehensive support to alleviate pressure points and improve alignment.

How do orthopedic pillows compare to regular pillows in terms of support?

Orthopedic pillows offer enhanced and targeted support for the neck, spine, and head, unlike regular pillows that typically have generic shapes and fillings. They are crafted according to orthopedic guidelines to ensure better alignment and comfort, often using materials like memory foam or latex. Yawnder's selection at our San Diego area showroom allows for direct comparison of different support levels.

What are the downsides of using a wedge pillow for sleep?

Overview of the YourFacePillow

The YourFacePillow is a unique looking pillow that has been created to reduce facial contact with the underlying sleep surface, something that is known to contribute to the appearance of wrinkles and acne. It’s constructed to encourage one to sleep in soldier position or the famous yoga corpse pose. Allowing you to easily sleep on your back, this pillow will keep your neck and your head in an anatomically correct position while you sleep. Unless you decide to sleep on your side with it, it has many promising features. 🙂

Why I Sought Out The YourFacePillow

The YourFacePillow initially caught my interest because I was suffering from the worst acne I had ever experienced in all of my 28 years. I fought with my skin for an entire year, trying to do everything I could to control it. Like some mysterious crime, it was something I was committed to solving. I spent lots of money on various cleaners and creams and I also tore up my face with my own at-home extraction kit. I used it so aggressively that I would later be horrified at how many scars I had left behind. I didn’t realize that at my age, delicate skin scars and folds more easily. After the year of fighting was up and with no improvement in sight, I finally paid a visit to my OBGYN only to find out that the birth control I had been taking to treat my PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) was no longer effective at managing my symptoms. One of those symptoms is painful and inescapable hormonal acne.

Aside from the typical surface area that zits like to occupy, hormonal acne, in particular, is another beast. Typically, it’s known to appear in areas such as the jawline and neck. Described as cystic acne, these types of pimples are often deep under the skin, making them not only painful but difficult to even access (and get rid of). Some don’t even come to a head, meaning there will be an evident bump on the face but no white dot in the center to know that it’s ripe for popping. Some of these pimples can appear and just remain. Eventually, it’s not even a zit anymore, just a raised mark for you to remember it by.

I could have at least considered that my hormones were the cause of the year-long sudden shift in my skin but the daily routine of taking my medication had become an automatic robotic ritual. One that never left any time for thinking. It was easy to neglect my health because I assumed it was already being properly managed.

That year of fighting with my skin, however, has thankfully taught me a lot. I’ve learned a lot about acne and specifically, hormonal acne. I also have come to understand PCOS more intellectually and I’ve educated myself about ways in which the skin can change and age and how to treat it well if one wishes to have a shot at aging gracefully.

It’s also important to consider that how you face your day isn’t all that matters. How and where you end your day is relevant too.

Where you sleep and what you lay your head on accumulates many lovely things over time.  Aside from built-up skin cells, pillows are also great containers for dirt, oil, sweat, bacteria, as well as various allergensdust-mites and pet dander being just one example.

Aside from the respiratory problems that can result from sleeping on an unclean pillow, the cleaner our pillow, the cleaner and clearer of a face we can realistically expect. While slovenly pillows and pillowcases may not be the primary cause of acne, they are known to exacerbate acne and act as a source of irritation. What’s even better than a clean pillow, if there is such a thing? How about not even letting your face make contact with your pillow? I know, I know. I’ve been told I’m idealistic but I know that those with sensitive skin can empathize with my concerns. Sleeping on your back and letting your face relaxwith nothing in its wayusually feels and works best. And that’s why this pillow is awesome.

Construction of the YourFacePillow

yourfacepillow-one-year-review

The YourFacePillow is made with CertiPUR Certified foam. That means that it’s made without PBDEs, TDCPP, TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead and heavy metals, formaldehyde and phthalates. Known as viscoelastic foam or memory foam, this pillow won’t lose its shape or integrity over time and it’s lightness and breathability makes sure that you never sleep hot. Additionally, as supportive as the foam may be, it’s also incredibly soft, pleasant and comfortable. The pillow itself comes in a hypo-allergenic inner cover and of course, it also comes with a washable bamboo outer cover. There is a satin case available as well however it must be purchased separately.

The YourFacePillow comes in two size variations (Standard and Large) however the dimensions are actually the same for both—the thing that differs is that the Standard version has a slightly lower headrest and the side supports sit more closely together. The Standard size is what the company recommends for most people.

My YourFacePillow Findings

In my YourFacePillow Review video, I provide a comprehensive look at this pillow after using it for almost a year. I discuss what it was like transitioning from being a side sleeper to a back sleeper, the challenges that came with the adjustment, as well as how this effective this pillow is for both the reduction of acne as well as wrinkles.

My YourFacePillow Recommendation

It’s bizarre to think that a pillow can contribute to a more beautiful and radiant face but it’s actually possible. This pillow won’t solve your acne but it will keep you on your back so that your face is correctly positioned to sleep facing straight all through the night. If you can adhere to simply laying on your back, you will see that you have less breakouts and that the skin on your face does rest more proportionately. Some wrinkles may have time to smooth out, especially if they’re a result of improper sleeping positioning. Continue to sleep on your back (until the end of time) as often as possible for the best anti-aging benefits.

For acne sufferers: If you find that you can’t keep up with changing the pillowcase as often as you should (at least 1 to 2x/week), make use of clean towels and clean t-shirts to step in and save the day.

If you typically do not sleep on your back and are looking to gradually adjust positions, keep another pillow to the side as a just-in-case. In the event that you wake up with a stiff neck from accidentally moving in your sleep (and no longer being on your back), you may need to alternate to the second pillow, to help you cope with the neck pain while the knot heals, before returning to using the YourFacePillow again.

The iSense Smart Pillow is a high-tech, adjustable pillow that boasts various features for those who want to be more educated about just how well they sleep. It’s a step up from their other pillow, the Classic Regular Pillow, of which the main feature is only customization via the foam filling. With the Insense Smart Pillow there’s lots more to revel in.

Overview of the iSense Smart Pillow

The iSense Smart Pillow isn’t physically designed any differently than the iSense Classic Pillow but what is different about it is what lurks inside.

Along with the foam that goes inside the pillow is a hidden compartment that houses all of the awesome features of the product. Spread across the width of the pillow is a long sleep sensor. This sleep sensor is plugged into the included sleep tracker, which is something you’ll need to charge about every 3 weeks. The sleep tracker connects to your phone via bluetooth, where it’ll then be able to feed information to the Speedpace app (available on both Android and iOS devices) about it’s findings regarding how well, or how poorly, you slept.

For those wondering how they will wash a pillow like this, have no fear. Both the sleep sensor and sleep tracker (along with the cords to each) can be taken out of the pillow easily so that you can throw it in the washing machine.

isense smart pillow review

Regarding the foam, there are two separate compartments that you can access to adjust the filling. There is a compartment for the top portion of the pillow, and a compartment for the bottom portion.

So what awesome features does this pillow offer?

On the tech side, with the sleep tracker, you’ll have access to knowledge you might not have otherwise. You’ll now know precisely how long it took you to fall asleep, how long you actually slept, how many sleep cycles you’ve had in a night, the number of times you tossed and turned, as well as your heart rate and respiratory rate. The app also comes with a smart alarm, personalized tips based on how you’re doing and social connectivity.

Aside from the tech stuff, some things you can expect are:

  • A 120-night trial period that will let you take your time to decide if it’s for you or not
  • Precision cross-cut cooling memory foam that is anti-clumping and CertiPUR-US® Certified
  • A premium and hypoallergenic cover made of moisture-wicking fabric, along with a breathable band

My iSense Smart Pillow Findings

As far as the pillow itself goes, the claims they make on their website are #facts. The outer cover is both stunning and cooling and I could tell immediately that they had used a moisture-wicking, Dacron-inspired fabric here. These types of textiles are so much more high-tech than people realize and that’s why items with them, or made out of them, come at a premium cost. The stitching on top is beautiful and it’s also true that the cover is silky-soft. They did a wonderful job in making this pillow feel totally luxurious and high-end. Even if you were in a store and you were “just browsing,” you’d be happy to have your fingers grace its surface. It’s honestly lovely. The way this pillow is sewn is also awesome. It’s not the standard style of what you’d expect from most pillows. It has corners, so-to-speak. Because there’s this well-designed band along its perimeter, it allows the pillow to maintain its shape more efficiently thereby creating space for your neck to be supported. As a plus, the piping on the outer cover really adds to the aesthetic.

With the foam filling, I think that having two separate compartments within the pillow where the filling can be adjusted was an incredibly wise and functional design choice. It’s all about balance here and it’s evident that element was really taken into consideration. This is a distinction that I cannot overlook, because they’ve created a way for the foam to move around and within the pillow without eventually coming to occupy a single space. The separation between the top and bottom layers allows the filling to be spread out, as it should be. As for the foam itself, it’s unlike any other foam filling I’ve ever seen before. The foam genuinely does not fall flat. It’s honestly impressive and it’s also surprising how fast it returns to its original volume.

My iSense Smart Pillow Recommendation

I have to say that overall I really love this pillow. I like that it’s adjustable and machine washable and I think it’s great that the sleep sensor and sleep tracker are both removable. You can tell that there was a lot of effort put into its creation and every element is an indication of thatfrom the foam itself to the compartments it’s in, to the pillow’s fancy moisture-wicking outer shell, and even to the way it arrives at your door. The packaging is definitely proper and I’m a consumer who definitely appreciates great packaging.

isense smart pillow unboxed

I also want to add that the fact that the outer shell already has some foam lining is a really nice touch. Another awesome benefit about being able to remove the sleep tracker and sleep sensor is that if you wanted to, you could actually use it in other pillows as well. If for whatever reason you didn’t like this pillow, you would still be able to salvage the sleep tracker inside of it and continue to make use of it.

isense smart pillow out shell foam

From my research, I’ve found that there is apparently some controversy surrounding sleep apps. Despite this, it all seems to come down to personal opinion. I think that this pillow is a great choice for someone who can appreciate the tech behind it and who believes in the growth and evolution of consumer-friendly sleep tech. If you strive to be mindful of your health and of your sleep, this product is catered to your person. If you’re new to these types of smart products and manage to maintain a level of skepticism or reluctance, perhaps it’s best to stick with what you know, especially if you don’t think you’ll be making much use of it. Go with your gut instinct, they always say. iSense’s Regular Classic Pillow is what served as the foundation of their Smart Pillow so if you don’t want a smart product, go with the original, which is still a super duper luxurious choice, that I’m sure you’ll be more than happy with.
