Frequently Asked Questions About Night Terrors: Strategies to Understand and Avoid Episodes

What is the difference between night terrors and nightmares?

Night terrors are a sleep disorder where a child appears awake and distressed but is still partially asleep and unaware, while nightmares are simply bad dreams that a person typically remembers upon waking.

Who is most affected by night terrors?

Night terrors primarily affect children under the age of 12, though a smaller percentage of adults can also experience them.

What are some common causes of night terrors?

Common causes of night terrors include sleep deprivation, excessive stress, and an unstable home environment with anxiety or conflict for children. In adults, underlying mental health issues like anxiety, extreme stress, PTSD, or drug abuse can be contributing factors.

How can I help my child if they are experiencing night terrors?

Providing comfort and reassurance is crucial during a night terror episode by keeping calm, holding your child, and using soft words to soothe them. Observing patterns in your child's behavior and consulting a doctor if episodes are recurrent or escalating is also advisable.

Is professional help necessary for treating night terrors?

For children, professional intervention is often not necessary as night terrors typically aren't linked to underlying medical conditions, but for adults, professional treatment is frequently required to address the root causes. Our Yawnder sleep experts understand the role a restful environment plays in managing sleep disorders like night terrors.

What are the common symptoms of a night terror episode?

I received a set of white sheets from Layla, but I thought that I had received a bedside table from a furniture retailer. When my roommates asked me what I could’ve possibly gotten that was so large, we all found ourselves a bit bewildered when the answer was “sheets.”

I opened the box and found… mostly nothing except for some industrial plastic wrap. At the very very bottom of the box, in a distant corner, was a dense box tightly sealed in more plastic. After retrieving the box from the abyss.

I’ve gotten some overzealous packaging from Amazon, but never have I ever received something in a box 12 times the size of the actual object. I think they wanted the box in pristine condition which may explain the bix box. I don’t think this will be the case goine forward.

This is a very new product so as of this writing there isn’t too much information about the product on the website but that will change.

The product box was breathtaking. This was not just any cardboard box, they somehow managed to make this box look like the Mercedes-Benz of boxes. The corners and seams were sturdy and perfect. The clamshell mechanism fit like a dream, and slid over the edge perfectly. All parts of the cardboard box were covered in fancy, smooth, matte gray paper. The box looked like it was made of two pieces, but the hinge was made so well that it opened to only 90°. The graphic design was impeccable—the fonts and colors were perfect, and the inner flap donned a two-tone gray gingham pattern that complemented the whole package so well. The inner flap read “YOUR NEW SHEETS HAVE ARRIVED,” which made the aesthetic experience all the more real. These were my sheets and I was ready to love them.

After opening the clamshell I found yet more plastic wrap, but the dense pile of folded sheets looked so perfect I didn’t want to disturb the chic package. After revelling in its glory, I broke down and opened the inner package.

Layla Bamboo Construction

The sheets were shiny, but not as reflective as the Heavenluxe set. Most of the seams were neat and hidden well, but some of the seams were boldly emblazoned in the very same dark gray that was used on the box.

The sheets were soft and smooth, living up to all the good things I’ve heard about bamboo sheets. I ran the sheets through a cold wash and a tumble dry on low and they came out even softer. There was some minor shrinkage, but nothing too concerning—the pocket depth started at 14.5in (15.25in with the elastic band) and ended at 13in (14.5in with the elastic band).

When I brought the sheets up to my room to make my bed, I noticed they felt abnormally hefty. When I shook them out against my mattress, they made a thunderous noise unlike any sound I’ve heard a fabric make—it sounded like muffled clapping. The fitted sheet fit snugly without any ripples, and the flat sheet sat on top smoothly. By this point it was 3am and I was still awake for some reason, so after making my bed I really needed a perfect set of sheets to help me doze off as fast as possible.

My Layla Bamboo Findings

When those sheets touched my skin, they didn’t even feel like they were made of fabric—they felt so delicate and liquid like in a strange indescribable way. The sheets definitely felt heavier and more durable than the Heavenluxe sheets, but somehow they had a kind of ethereality about them that surpasses every experience I’ve ever had with any fabric. Sometimes all I think about at night is how amazing it will feel to pass out sandwiched between those gentle bamboo sheets. I want to say that I’m in love, but like every product, there are some hangups.

I was really shocked by the shipping waste and I really hope that is not how Layla intends to distribute their products, but I didn’t want that to cloud my judgement of the sheets themselves. I love these sheets, but I find myself wondering if I love Layla’s sheets, or I love bamboo sheets. There are a few more bamboo sheet sets in the pipeline, so I want to make it very clear that this is my first set of sheets made of this fabric and I have no referent.

My Layla Bamboo Recommendation

Since there isn’t much information on Layla’s website, I don’t know how their fabric composition or production differs from any other kind of bamboo sheet, so I don’t feel like I can adequately make a judgement on the company itself. Bamboo is a very promising agricultural alternative to cotton, but like hemp, the miracle textile crop of your dreams isn’t always sustainable. Ultimately whether you buy these sheets or not comes down to how important your carbon footprint is to you. Off the bat, while bamboo and hemp grow quickly and function more efficiently as textile crops, farms are often established on land that was deforested specifically for the cultivation of these crops, which is ironic and dangerous.

Frequently Asked Questions About Layla Bamboo Sheets Review (2026): Comfort & Packaging

Yes, the Layla Bamboo Sheets are exceptionally soft and smooth, providing an ethereal and enveloping comfort. After a cold wash and low tumble dry, they emerged even softer, enhancing their luxurious feel.

How does the packaging of Layla Bamboo Sheets compare to other brands?

The article doesn't explicitly state if Layla Bamboo Sheets are ideal for hot sleepers, but it does highlight their soft, subtle sheen, and dense quality. The unique softness and comfortable feel are mentioned as key features.

What is the pocket depth of Layla Bamboo Sheets after washing?

Body Pillow: Must-Have for Best Sleep Ever!

Can a Body Pillow Improve Sleep
Bottom line

A body pillow can significantly improve sleep quality and comfort, especially when a mattress begins to sag. These pillows are particularly beneficial for side sleepers and those seeking better spinal alignment and pressure relief. They offer an effective solution for enhancing sleep without immediately replacing a mattress.

For the longest time, we have depended on the mattress to solve most of our sleep problems. But even the most expensive mattress begins to sink and gets dips within the first five years. The more the mattress sags, the lower is the support provided to the body. No matter what kind of mattress you buy, you cannot keep it from sagging. Sooner or later, it is going to dip and sag, leaving you with an improper sleep position.

This is one of the reasons why several people change their mattress so often. A sagging mattress has little firmness and fails to provide your body with the support it needs for proper proper sleep. When you keep sleeping on this worn-out mattress, you develop soreness and aches and pains in various parts of your body. You believe that you are suffering from some ailment when the actual culprit is your mattress.

Unfortunately, mattresses will sag. There’s not much to do about it. But instead of relying only on a mattress for proper sleep, why not choose another solution for quality rest? That’s right; we are talking about a body pillow. It is the next best alternative to a mattress for adding in a good night’s sleep. Whether you suffer from medical conditions that make it hard for you to sleep at night or sleep on a mattress that does not provide enough support, a body pillow can make sleeping a more comfortable and relaxing experience.

What Is A Body Pillow?

A pillow that’s narrow and long and runs the entire length of the body is called a body pillow. Initially, body pillows were mostly used by pregnant women for extra support during sleep. But these pillows have gained massive popularity in recent years because they provide support to the whole body when the mattress fails to do so.

A lot of people prefer to sleep with a cuddle pillow. But these pillows are usually small and do not provide support to the entire body. A body pillow is soft and comfortable but firm enough to support the top leg (for side sleepers), torso, back, and arms throughout the night. Body pillows are counted among the best orthopedic pillows and are widely available online, at bedding stores, and

What Is Body Pillows Made Of?

A body pillow is no different than a regular pillow and can be made of a variety of materials. Some of the materials that a body pillow is made of are:

Shredded latex: Body pillows with an outer cotton casing and a shredded latex fill are bouncy and conform to the shape of your body. Shredded latex body pillows are great for those who suffer from neck and shoulder pain because it’s responsive and keeps the spine aligned while hugging the body. Natural latex is hypoallergenic and can be conveniently used by those with allergies.

Memory Foam: Body pillows are also made with memory foam, another hypoallergenic material. Memory foam is breathable and comfortable and also regulates temperature. The firmness of the pillow can also be adjusted according to preference.

Wool: If you want a body pillow that keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, then choose wool. Because wool is a natural insulator, it keeps you comfortable in all seasons. Wool body pillows are comfortable to sleep with, and also keep the back and spine aligned, regardless of your sleep position.

Feather/Down: Although body pillows made of feather or down are soft, they aren’t capable of providing the best support. Besides, feather or down can cause allergies, which doesn’t make them suitable for all.

Wool-Latex Blend: When wool and latex are combined to make a body pillow, it becomes soft and supportive at the same time. The combination of shredded latex and wool gives the pillow a firmer feel, while the wool functions like a natural insulator and promotes breath-ability and circulation. The latex makes the pillow responsive while keeping your spine aligned and helping relieve pressure points.

Kapok: Cotton makes for some of the most breathable and comfortable body pillows. Kapok cotton is used to make organic body pillows, which have the same fluffiness of down without the feathers. Cotton pillows keep you cool on hot nights, providing proper support for side sleepers, spine alignment, and pressure relief.

Benefits of A Body Pillow

Pillows are used by everyone for comfort. But pillows are also great at providing support to the body. These days, there are orthopedic pillows, which are ergonomically designed to provide support to various parts of the body. There are pillows for the legs, for the back and spine, and for the neck and shoulders. Body pillows combine the support of all pillows into one. If you have a body pillow, you can use it for supporting any part of the body or the entire body.

Some benefits of the body pillow are:

Spinal Alignment: Keeping the spine aligned is of utmost importance when sleeping. When we sleep, we often aren’t aware of our position. This leads to soreness when we wake up. A body pillow keeps the sleeper supported no matter which position he sleeps in, improving spinal alignment and keeping aches and pains away.

Pressure Relief: When we are in a supine position, our body takes the maximum pressure. This is heightened if the mattress isn’t supportive enough. A body pillow provides extra support, relieving the pressure and preventing soreness.

Improved Circulation: When your sleep position isn’t proper, your blood circulation is also poor. A body pillow keeps you supported and comfortable, keeping your sleeping position right and improving circulation.

Diminished Snoring: A body pillow can be used to elevate the upper part of the body, to help with snoring and sleep apnea. Body pillows designed for sleep apnea makes sure that the sleeper remains in a side sleeping position all through the night, helping relieve symptoms of sleep apnea like obstructed breathing, snoring, coughing, and dry mouth.

Body pillows are available at all bedding stores or online marketplaces. Quality body pillows last long and provide ample support for the whole body.

The many ways you can use a body pillow

For Sleeping:

  • Side Sleeping: Hug the pillow in front of you, and place it between your knees. This helps align your spine, hips, and knees, improving your overall sleep posture.
  • Back Sleeping: Position the body pillow under your knees to relieve lower back pressure.
  • Pregnancy Support: A body pillow can be a lifesaver during pregnancy. Wrap it around you for belly support, tuck it between your legs for hip comfort, or use it behind your back for added lumbar support.

Beyond Sleep:

  • Reading or Watching TV: Prop yourself up with a body pillow for comfortable back support while relaxing in bed.
  • Meditation Aid: Use a body pillow to support your head and neck or place it between your knees for better posture during seated meditation.
  • Post-Surgery Recovery: A body pillow can provide extra cushioning and support to sensitive areas after an operation.
  • Relieving Aches and Pains: Target specific areas for relief. Place it under sore muscles, or hug it close for its comforting weight and pressure.
  • Pet Comfort: Many dogs and cats love the security and softness of a body pillow to snuggle on.

Is it really necessary to replace my mattress if I have bed bugs?

While replacing your mattress offers ultimate peace of mind and eliminates lingering risks, it's not strictly necessary if other methods are used diligently. You can effectively bug-proof your existing mattress with a specialized cover and thorough cleaning.

How can I effectively clean my bedding if I suspect bed bugs?

To effectively clean your bedding, strip all sheets and coverings, place them in a tightly sealed garbage bag, and wash them in hot water. High heat is crucial for killing both bed bugs and their eggs.

What are the first steps I should take if I discover bed bugs in my home?

The immediate first steps involve preparing your bedding by washing it in hot water and meticulously vacuuming your mattress, disposing of the vacuum bag outside. Swift action is essential to prevent the infestation from spreading.

Are bed bug infestations a sign of an unclean home?

No, bed bug infestations are not necessarily a sign of an unclean home, as these pests can hitch a ride on clothing or luggage from anywhere. Their presence simply indicates an infestation that needs to be addressed.

How can I prevent bed bugs from returning after an initial clear-out?

To prevent bed bugs from returning, ensure any kept mattress is encased in a bed bug-proof cover for at least a year, addressing the bed frame, and being vigilant about checking second-hand furniture or luggage after travel. Frequently Asked Questions About Best Weighted Sheets

Do weighted sheets really prevent bedding from slipping?

Yes, weighted sheets can effectively keep bedding in place due to their added heft and gravitational pull. This extra weight helps to anchor the entire bedding ensemble, reducing the need for constant adjustments throughout the day and night.

Who are weighted sheets best for?

Weighted sheets are best for anyone looking to keep their bedding tidy and secure, especially those frustrated by sheets and blankets that frequently slip out of place. They are also beneficial for individuals who find traditional bedding too light or who prefer a more anchored feel.

How do weighted sheets compare to regular sheets for keeping bedding in place?

Weighted sheets offer a significant advantage over regular sheets in preventing slippage because their added weight provides a natural anchor. Traditional sheets, especially those made from slippery materials like satin, lack this gravitational pull and are more prone to moving around.

What are the downsides of using weighted sheets?

One potential downside is that weighted sheets can be heavier to lift and manage during bed making or washing. Additionally, while helpful for stability, they might not be everyone’s preferred feel if they are accustomed to lighter bedding.

Is a simple heavy blanket as good as a specialty weighted sheet for securing bedding?

Yes, a simple heavy blanket or even a top sheet that is significantly heavier than your other bedding can work just as effectively as a specialty weighted sheet for keeping everything in place. You don’t necessarily need to invest in a specific weighted product if you have a heavy blanket available. We've seen this work in our Encinitas showroom when demonstrating bedding setups.

Where can I try weighted bedding materials in person?

You can explore various bedding materials that offer good weight and texture by visiting a local mattress retailer. Our Yawnder showroom in Encinitas, CA offers a selection of materials like cotton, linen, and flannel, allowing you to feel their practical qualities firsthand.

Eli & Elm Profile

Eli & Elm entered the bedding world in January 2019 with a goal to create high quality bedding for the average sleep enthusiast. Based in New Haven, CT, their name is an homage to Eli Whitney—the inventor of the cotton gin; and Elm City—the home of Whitney before its name was changed to New Haven. Three Connecticut men were inspired by Eli Whitney’s innovation with the plant, so they took to improving the world of cotton bedding, with aspiring dreams to make the bed a better place for sleep. There hasn’t been much innovation in the textile industry, so Eli & Elm made it their mission to create luxurious and durable sheets for affordable prices. Their work with researchers and engineers has paved the way for eco-friendly advancements in the field while also focusing their resources on making fair trade products that are ethically sound.

Eli & Elm sent me their king-size organic cotton Side Sleeper pillow. The large cushion was rolled up and stuffed inside its long, white shipping box.

I pulled it out and cut away the bag and tape to reveal a gold and ivory pillow shaped like half of a fingertip bandage.

The quilted pillow fabric is extremely soft, and the filling is especially plush and squishy. The front and back of the pillow have “Organic” written stylistically across the pleats, and are joined by a gold suede band.

The seams are hidden and seem durable enough to withstand even the roughest of sleepers. I really appreciate the placement of the zipper, as many zippers that go from corner to corner often get jammed with the interior fabric. When I unzipped the portal to coziness, I was met with tiny noodles of cotton stuffing, which Eli & Elm explains can be removed to adjust height, support, and cushiness for a fully customizable experience.

Side Sleeper Construction

Eli & Elm’s pillow design is not only customizable for all sleepers, but it’s specially designed to benefit side-sleepers. The unique shape gives the head and neck the support they need, which is often not provided by flat pillows. I have two flat pillows that have lost every ounce of support and comfort that they once had, so this has been a long time coming. I couldn’t find any information on how I was supposed wash it, and I’ve had issues in the past with damp pillows, so I gave it an extra hour for good measure totaling 120 minutes on low heat. Once out of the dryer, I could start enjoying the pillow without having to smell the factory in which it was made.

The pillow fabric is comprised of 37% organic cotton, 2% spandex, and 61% polyester; and the fill is made of 75% latex and 25% polyester fiber. Eli & Elm claim that their cotton fabric is breathable, hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, and temperature modulating, so I was intrigued to try it alongside Eli & Elm’s Cooling Whitney Collection. Unlike the Whitney Collection, the Side Sleeper does not utilize Phase Changing Materials in its construction, so experiencing the cooling effects side-by-side would give me an ideal comparison test. In the end, it really did do what they said it would.

My Side Sleeper Findings

The pillow is heavy and kind of unwieldy—if you hold it with one hand, you feel like it will stretch into oblivion, but if you hold it with two hands, it still figures out a way to spill over your arms. When moving the pillow, it feels as though it’s caught somewhere between liquid and solid despite very clearly just being a fabric pillow stuffed with little squishy noodles. When placed on an immovable surface—like a bed—the pillow takes on a whole different personality. The noodles compress under the weight of your head allowing the half-fingertip-bandage shape to conform to your neck. The Side Sleeper feels like a luxury neck pillow made of pizza dough, and I love it. It can be hard to find a pillow that meets all of your greatest expectations, but Eli & Elm got it right this time. No matter which way I slept or rolled, the pillow was always there, giving me the best cushion experience for all sides of my head. It was both supportive and forgiving, which makes it a perfect pillow for literally anyone.

When used simultaneously with Eli & Elm’s Whitney Collection, I found myself in one of the most breathable and temperature consistent sleeping environments ever. Sure, getting into the bed was a bit chilly (my house thermostat is pretty consistently set between 55F and 62F morning and night), but once inside, all the high tech cooling fabric started doing its thing and the sheets and pillow quickly adjusted to my body temperature. After a few days of usage, I was curious what the other side of the pillow felt like since the undersides of pillows are always colder—this one was very cold. In a sleepy daze, I strangely couldn’t tell if the pillow was cold because it was damp or just cold—turns out by perching the Side Sleeper on top of my other pillows (covered with the Whitney pillowcases), I created a kind of black hole for heat in between the two cooling fabrics.

My Side Sleeper Recommendation

Eli & Elm’s Side Sleeper is a magnificent pillow for sleeping, to which I have found no comparison. That said, pillows are generally very versatile and practical, but I don’t think the Side Sleeper shares those traits. Due to its shape, it wouldn’t make for a back or head cushion while playing cards or writing your next novel, and its weight and Jell-O-esque feel make me think traveling with it would be a hassle—its true element is on a bed. The only thing that I’m unsure about at this moment is the stiffness of the pillow. This of course is just a personal problem, because Eli & Elm recommends removing or adding noodles as you go to get the perfect firmness, which I haven’t gotten around to doing. So for all of you prospective buyers and readers out there, if you’re looking for a pillow that is more squishy than firm, make sure you extract some noodles first before deciding it’s not for you! In the off chance the Side Sleeper is just not for you, Eli & Elm has a 45-day risk free trial period so you never have to invest in something you don’t actually like. For me? This is a real keeper and paces miles ahead of the comparable $100 solid bamboo pillow I got online.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eli and Elm Side Sleeper Pillow: Must-Have for Best Sleep

Is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow worth the investment for a better night's sleep?

Yes, its unique design and adjustable filling make it a strong contender for improving sleep, especially for side sleepers. The pillow's support for the head and neck, along with the ability to customize its height, addresses common issues found in traditional pillows, as our San Diego team found during testing. This personalized approach to comfort suggests its value.

Who is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow best suited for?

This pillow is specifically engineered for side sleepers who need targeted support for their head and neck. Its distinctive half-fingertip bandage shape is designed to cradle the head and provide stability, which was a noticeable benefit during hands-on testing. The adjustable filling further allows side sleepers to fine-tune its firmness and loft to their preference.

How does the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow compare to traditional memory foam pillows?

The Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow offers a unique feel with its cotton stuffing noodles, allowing for adjustable loft and a balance between liquid and solid textures, unlike the more consistent density of most memory foam. While memory foam often conforms to shape, this pillow's customizable fill provides a different kind of adaptable support that our testers found distinct. Its organic cotton and latex-polyester blend also contribute to a different material experience compared to synthetic memory foam.

What are the potential downsides of the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow?

The pillow can be somewhat heavy and unwieldy, making it a bit challenging to manage with one hand according to our hands-on experience. While it offers adjustable filling for personalized support, this feature might also require some initial trial and error to find the ideal comfort level. The unique shape, while beneficial for side sleepers, might also take some getting used to for those accustomed to traditional pillow forms.

Is the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow good for hot sleepers?

Eli & Elm claims their organic cotton fabric is breathable and capable of temperature modulation, suggesting potential benefits for hot sleepers. While direct cooling effects were not solely attributed to the pillow in our initial assessment, its breathability as an organic cotton product could contribute to a cooler sleep environment compared to less airflow-friendly materials. Further testing in conjunction with the Cooling Whitney Collection indicated a harmonious cooling experience.

Primary Goods sent me a 5-piece set of 100% percale sheets in their special February color, “Lilac Snow.” As of this writing, you can get a queen size set for $179. The sheets come with a 100 night trial which means you get to try them in your bed for 100 nights and if you aren’t happy with them, you can return them for a refund. Just bear in mind that you will pay a $19.99 return processing fee for any product that is washed or used. You also need to pay for return shipping.

The sheets came in a pretty nondescript brown shipping box, and when I opened it I was not met with sleek designs or extravagant packaging—I was a bit surprised considering how many other sets come in over the top wrappings.

Honestly, it was actually kind of refreshing not to have to choose between keeping the packaging to admire like a piece of modern art, and tossing it out. Primary Goods kept it simple with a shipping box and five fabric baggies also known as self packaging, each containing one piece of the percale puzzle. I disassembled the set and started looking over my new purple sleep treasure.

Primary Goods Construction

One thing I did not account for was how close “Lilac Snow” is to pink. Contrasted on a bright white backdrop, “Lilac Snow” has the slightest discernible hint of purple on their website. In real life, under non-studio lighting, it is actually undeniably ballet slipper pink. I know this for a fact because I spent a few hours freaking out over my perception of colors before asking my roommates and sister what color they see. We all had a flashback to the dress that broke the internet in February 2015—the dress is clearly white and gold in that photo, but I digress.

The consensus was unanimous: these sheets are not any perceptible shade of purple or violet. Since lilac is a pretty ambiguous color—lilac flowers can range from light red to dark purple and everything in between—I give it a pass with the disclaimer that unless you live in a photography studio or a glass house in sunny southern California, the sheets will be pink. Don’t get me wrong, pink is a great color, but purple is my favorite. On a side note, the sheets are surprisingly shiny (despite Primary Goods calling them “matte”), which made photographing the true colors very challenging, so please keep that in mind as you scroll through the photos.

I unfolded the sheets and analyzed them closely. Initially the sheets felt a bit rougher than any old set of cotton sheets but Percale is a different weave than sateen and they will be more breathable, also given the weave, percale sheets have a sort of crisper crinkly feel that some people crave.

My Primary Goods Findings

I followed the laundry directions and washed the sheets in warm water followed by a low heat tumble dry and there was no shrinkage, but they didn’t dry. I had to run the sheets through the dryer a second time to eradicate the dampness. During both sessions they were the only objects in the dryer, but for some reason they needed two hours to dry on low heat, which was frustrating. Pro tip, this happens with comforters and all sorts of bedding. It’s often best to dry the fitted and flat sheet separately so they don’t become entagnled which prolongs the dryng process.

The corners of the fitted sheet may look like a pink Victorian era dress, but they sure do grip mattress corners well, even if it does seem a bit like overkill. If your sheets are prone to coming loose at night, these will ensure they stay in place.

I spread the flat sheet out on my bed, set up the duvet, and began testing their signature snapping feature.

If you go with their signature snapping system to attach the flat sheet to the duvet just keep in mind that this is meant to work as a system. If you use the flat sheet on its own, it will cover the top of the bed but it is not big enough to make the hospital corners.

The goal of the snap system is to keep you from losing your top sheet an night. The primary purpose of the top sheet is to keep your duvet clean so you don’t have to launder it as often. If you’re disciplined enough to launder the fitted top sheet this is a good system.

My Primary Goods Recommendation

Honestly, my first night sleeping took some getting used to. You need to get used to the feel of the top sheet being in sync with the duvet. After a few washed these sheet should soften up well and what you get for the money is a good value.

Frequently Asked Questions About Primary Goods Bedding Review

Is the Primary Goods bedding worth the price?

Primary Goods bedding offers a unique crisp cotton percale feel and an innovative snapping system, making it potentially worthwhile for those seeking these specific features, despite the $179 queen price tag and return fees. The generous 100-night trial allows you to assess its value in your own home before fully committing.

Who are Primary Goods cotton percale sheets best for?

Primary Goods cotton percale sheets are best for sleepers who appreciate a crisp, breathable feel and value an integrated snapping system to keep top sheets and duvets aligned. They are also ideal for those wanting a fitted sheet that stays securely in place throughout the night, as noted in our hands-on testing.

What are the downsides of Primary Goods sheets?

The primary downsides of Primary Goods sheets include potential color discrepancy from online descriptions, a slightly rough initial texture that may require an adjustment period, and the need for two dryer cycles to fully dry. Additionally, a $19.99 return processing fee applies for washed items, plus the cost of return shipping.

Are Primary Goods sheets good for hot sleepers?

Yes, Primary Goods sheets are likely good for hot sleepers due to their percale weave, which is known for a crisp and breathable feel. This construction allows for better air circulation compared to warmer weaves like sateen, helping to keep sleepers cooler.

How does the snapping system of Primary Goods sheets work?

The snapping system is a signature feature designed to secure the top sheet to the duvet, preventing common issues like tugging and bunching during sleep. However, our review noted that this system might not provide enough fabric for traditional hospital corners when using just the flat sheet.

Where can I try Primary Goods bedding in person?

While Primary Goods bedding is often sold online, you might inquire with local retailers like Yawnder's Encinitas, CA showroom, to see if they carry or can showcase specific bedding brands. Currently, the review is based on direct-to-consumer testing, and in-person availability would depend on specific store inventory.

Sleep Paralysis: Must-Have Insights on This Risky Condition

Infographic Sleep Paralysis Decoded
Bottom line

Sleep paralysis is a temporary state where awareness returns before the body fully awakens, leading to an inability to move or speak. It primarily affects individuals with irregular sleep patterns, sleep deprivation, or certain mental health disorders. While terrifying, managing sleep hygiene and understanding its temporary nature can help reduce episodes.

Yawnder verdictEssential insights for a common sleep phenomenon · 4.8/5

Sleep is one of the most mysterious phenomena in living beings, and it has intrigued since the dawn of civilization. Although science has been able to understand much of the processes in living beings, sleep is still mostly a mystery. Much of this is because we aren’t conscious when sleep happens and it’s impossible to tell what happened while we were sleeping after we wake up. For years, scientists have been studying sleep and associated phenomenons like sleep paralysis and have also managed to figure out a lot about what happens in the brain and the body when a person is asleep. However, some aspects of sleep are yet to be demystified, and one of them is the REM stage.

The final of the four stages of sleep is called the Rapid Eye Movement stage because the brain is active in this phase and the eyes move rapidly behind closed eyelids. Many interesting things happen during this stage. Dreams, for instance, have intrigued both scientists and the common man for the longest time, and they happen during the REM phase. When dreams happen, the brain is active, but the body is still inactive, in a state of paralysis, to prevent it from acting out the dreams. Another mysterious phenomenon is linked to the REM stage, and this is sleep paralysis.

Decoding Sleep Paralysis?

Have you ever woken up from sleep, only to find that you couldn’t move or talk or get out of bed for a few moments? That’s what is sleep paralysis. In ancient times, it was linked to supernatural creatures.  When the episode occurs, everyone thought that is supernatural creature had possessed him. This made sleep paralysis a very scary phenomenon for everyone.

The condition was also termed a type of nightmare. But after a lot of scientific research, it is now known that the condition is nothing but being mentally aware while still asleep. This can happen either during falling asleep or waking up. The REM stage is the most complicated phenomenon associated with sleep, mainly because the brain becomes active and is conscious enough to experience life-like visions in the form of dreams, but the body is still inactive. Although the cause of sleep paralysis has been learned, the reason behind it still remains unclear.

What Causes Sleep Paralysis?

Although science is still unsure about the exact cause of sleep paralysis, global folklore has had explanations for centuries. These include visits from supernatural beings like ghosts, witches, and demons. In recent cases in the US, sleep paralysis has also been called “alien abductions.”

These associations to supernatural activity make sense because during sleep paralysis many people experience pressure on the chest, the feeling of being secretly watched by an intruder, and other hallucinations. However, none of these actually happen. These are only sensory perceptions because the brain is still in the REM phase and the body is inactive. This means the person has woken up when he is not supposed to be awake.

Because sleep paralysis is a complex phenomenon, it has been widely studied by scientists. The most common cause is waking up in the middle of REM stage sleep. When a person wakes up when the REM stage is still active, he is able to see, hear and feel because the brain is awake, but is unable to move because the body has not yet come out of the REM stage. Although this sounds scary, it lasts only a few seconds because the body realizes that the brain is already awake and slowly begins to move again.

In the number of studies conducted over the years to find out more about sleep paralysis, the most common cause has been identified as sleep deprivation. When a person is deprived of the normal sleep cycle, he is more likely to wake up in the middle of the REM stage. Usually, we are supposed to wake up at the end of the REM stage, but if we don’t have a normal sleep cycle, the possibility of waking up in the middle of the REM stage increases. This is when sleep paralysis is most likely to happen.

Sleep paralysis is also common in narcolepsy patients, according to sleep experts at the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at the Montefiore Health System, New York. Because narcolepsy is the result of a disrupted sleep cycle, sleep paralysis is more likely to happen, in combination with hallucinations. Napping also increases the possibility of sleep paralysis because it disrupts the natural sleep pattern. If you oversleep while napping, you may experience sleep paralysis.

Young age also is likely to be a cause behind sleep paralysis. The Mayo Clinic says that sleep paralysis is most common in the age range of 10 and 25. This means even children can be affected by this disorder and also get very frightened.

In people with anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, or panic disorder, sleep paralysis is very likely, according to a 2017 report published by the National Institutes of Health. Since these emotional disorders result in nightmares and insomnia, they also increase the possibility of sleep paralysis.

According to a 2011 study by Pennsylvania State University, nearly eight percent of the general population experienced sleep paralysis. Among them, about 31 percent of people suffer from mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD. Although this was a small study, it does go a long way in proving that mental disorders are associated with sleep paralysis to a certain extent. However, this doesn’t mean that every person with anxiety or PTSD will get sleep paralysis.

Genetics may also have a role to play in sleep paralysis. According to the findings of a 2015 sleep study involving 862 twins and siblings by the University of Sheffield, genetics could influence sleep paralysis is some people.  Although this study was also preliminary, the researchers added that it does provide a basic idea about the involvement of circadian rhythms in sleep paralysis.

Symptoms of Sleep Paralysis

Those who have experienced sleep paralysis find it to be scary. It almost seems like you were having a stroke, where your entire body was paralyzed, and you couldn’t move or speak. These are the most important symptoms of sleep paralysis. People are unable to move any part of their bodies or speak right after waking up or right when falling asleep. According to the Mayo Clinic, this can last a few seconds or up to a minute. Along with paralysis of the body, people may also experience tightness or pressure on their chest, as well as a choking feeling.

Hallucinations are also not uncommon during an episode of sleep paralysis. This is because the brain is still in a dream-state and hasn’t fully woken up. These visions or hallucinations can be an extension of an ongoing dream. Aside from these, there are no other symptoms of sleep paralysis. The person is awake and aware during sleep paralysis episodes and can later recount the experience.

Sleep Paralysis Prevention and Treatment sleep paralysis treatment

There are no short or long term effects of sleep paralysis. Hence, there is no treatment for it. What can be treated is an underlying cause that could be contributing to sleep paralysis. Rather than treatment, this is an effort to prevent sleep paralysis.

Sleep experts suggest that medical help is not required after only one rare episode of sleep paralysis. What is important is to check your sleep hygiene. Often, sleep paralysis is a sign of sleep deprivation.  If you have experienced sleep paralysis only once or twice, you should make sure to get enough sleep daily, limit caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and all other drugs, and stop using electronics at bedtime.

Medical help might be needed to treat underlying causes if the above doesn’t help and sleep paralysis episodes keep becoming more frequent. A sleep specialist is a person to see if you have recurrent sleep paralysis episodes.

Although sleep paralysis is not dangerous, if you experience extreme episodes, you may be prescribed a short course of antidepressants. This helps to treat any underlying stress or mental disorder that might be the reason.

Sleep experts suggest that during a sleep paralysis episode, it is important to remain calm and keep telling yourself that it will soon pass. There’s not much else that you can do. No one has ever remained in a sleep paralysis forever, so it’s important to understand that it’s only temporary and pass very soon. However, this is possible only when you’ve experienced an episode or two before. The first time, such episodes can really be frightening.

Risk Factors of Sleep Paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a fairly common phenomenon and can affect anyone in any age group. It is most likely to begin between age 14 and 17 years and decreases after the age of 30. A person is more likely to experience it if there someone in the family with the disorder.

Some of the risk factors are:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety, depression or PTSD
  • Sleeping on your back
  • Excessive stress
  • The use of certain medications

Interesting Facts About Sleep Paralysis

In the past, before science could explain everything, it used to be believed that ghosts and demons caused sleep paralysis by pinning people down by sitting on their chest. However, these visions were mere hallucinations, a common symptom of sleep paralysis. In fact, most people who report seeing apparitions actually had sleep paralysis.

People also use different methods to shake themselves out of the episode. Some wiggle their toes while others cough. However, it isn’t possible to wake oneself up from an episode of sleep paralysis, until it passes.

If you, or someone you know has episodes of sleep paralysis, share the following infographic. It lucidly explains what sleep paralysis is, what causes it, and finally how to treat sleep paralysis.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sleep Paralysis: Must-Have Insights on This Risky Condition

What are the downsides of experiencing sleep paralysis?

The primary downside of sleep paralysis is the temporary inability to move or speak, which can be a terrifying experience for sufferers. Episodes often involve sensations of chest pressure, choking, and vivid hallucinations, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. These experiences can lead to significant fear and distress, even though they are typically brief.

Who is sleep paralysis most likely to affect?

Sleep paralysis is most likely to affect individuals who experience irregular sleep patterns, those with narcolepsy, and people who sleep on their backs. It is also linked to mental health disorders like anxiety and PTSD, with roughly 31% of affected individuals reporting such challenges. Waking during the REM sleep phase is a common trigger.

Is sleep paralysis a sign of a serious underlying health condition?

While sleep paralysis itself is not typically a sign of a serious underlying health condition, it is often associated with sleep deprivation and certain predispositions. Disruptions in sleep cycles, common in those with irregular sleep patterns, increase the likelihood of experiencing this condition. It can also be a symptom related to narcolepsy or heightened anxiety levels.

How does sleep paralysis compare to a nightmare?

Sleep paralysis differs from a nightmare because individuals are fully conscious during an episode, even though they cannot move. During a nightmare, a person is still asleep and often unaware they are dreaming until they wake up. With sleep paralysis, the brain is awake but the body is still in a dream-like state, leading to a unique blend of awareness and immobilization.

Is sleep paralysis good for anything?

Sleep paralysis is not considered beneficial; instead, it is a disconcerting phenomenon where awareness returns before the body has fully awakened. It can be a frightening and disorienting experience, often accompanied by chest pressure or hallucinations. The focus is typically on prevention and management rather than finding any positive aspects.

Where can I learn more about healthy sleep habits to prevent sleep paralysis?

You can learn more about healthy sleep habits to prevent sleep paralysis by focusing on good sleep hygiene, which is critical for prevention. Establishing regular sleep patterns and avoiding sleep deprivation are key methods discussed in the provided article. While Yawnder's showroom in Encinitas, CA, specializes in mattresses, their focus on quality sleep environments can contribute to better sleep hygiene overall.

How to Use Melatonin for Sleep

How Long Does Melatonin Last
Bottom line

Melatonin's effects generally last from one to seven hours, depending on the dosage. It is best for occasional sleeplessness and those seeking a natural sleep aid, but individuals with chronic insomnia should exercise caution. While effective for short-term use, long-term reliance may hinder natural melatonin production.

The growing popularity of melatonin may be due to several factors, including the increasing prevalence of sleep disorders, the rise of natural and alternative medicine, and the ease of access to melatonin supplements.

[Tagline]

With sleep disorders rising around the world with every passing day, people are more interested in sleep aids than ever. Sleep aids come in various forms. They come as liquids and as pills, and sometimes even as a supplement in the form of powder. To make sleep aids easily accessible, most of them are available over-the-counter and don’t even require a prescription. Sleep aids used to be an easy way for people to commit suicide, but modern sleeping pills no longer have the potential to kill. If you overdose on sleeping pills, you’re only going to sleep for a long time and in the worst case scenario get very sick.

Modern sleep aids also incorporate natural ingredients to help people sleep without resorting to chemicals always. Although sleep aids are not a cure for sleep disorders and should not be consumed on a regular basis, they are popular everywhere because they are a fast and easy means of falling and staying asleep. To make sleeping pills safer, there are now the kinds that are made of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Because melatonin is a natural part of our body, consuming melatonin sleep aids are believed to have fewer side effects than regular sleep aids.

But melatonin can also make it hard for you to wake up on time every morning if you don’t know when to time its consumption. In this post, we discuss melatonin production, melatonin sleep aids, and the right time to take it.

What Is Melatonin?

Like all bodily functions, sleep is also controlled by hormones. The hormone for alertness is serotonin, and the hormone for sleep is melatonin. While sunshine and bright lights aid in the production of serotonin, darkness aids in the production of melatonin. Melatonin is normally produced only after sundown.

But hormonal imbalances are common in every individual, and if your melatonin production is not normal, you are going to have sleep issues. Being exposed to bright lights also hinders melatonin production and makes it hard for sleep to come at night. Blue light is one of the worst enemies of melatonin production. If you are exposed to electronic devices most of the time, you are more at risk for suffering from sleep disorders. This is because the blue light emitted from backlit electronic devices significantly hinders melatonin production.

For a healthy sleep-wake cycle, the serotonin and melatonin productions should be in balance. Lack of melatonin causes sleep disorders like insomnia whereas a lack of serotonin causes depression and low energy. Melatonin is produced by the part of the brain called the hypothalamus.

Melatonin Sleep Aid

Sleep aids are known to have various side effects. This led to the development of sleep aids made with melatonin, a hormone that’s naturally present in our bodies. However, melatonin sleep aids aren’t a solution to low melatonin production. They only help you fall asleep by increasing the amount of melatonin in your brain. If you don’t take it, your melatonin levels will go back to their previous state.

Melatonin sleep aids usually come in the form of a pill and should be taken before bedtime. Melatonin supplements are available over-the-counter and don’t require prescriptions. Melatonin supplements are either pure or compounded and added to other products. Pure melatonin supplements are always available as pills or capsules, but when they are mixed to other products, they are also available as liquids or sprays.

Because melatonin supplements are very potent and fast-acting, they should be taken only before bedtime.

Melatonin Supplement Dosage

melatonin dosageGenerally, melatonin supplements are available as over-the-counter drugs in most pharmacies. But they don’t require a prescription, are not regulated by the FDA, and have no fixed dosage. The appropriate dosage is usually mentioned on the pack but can also be misleading in many cases.

Before taking a melatonin supplement, it is important to consult a healthcare practitioner for the right dosage. Melatonin is more potent and faster acting than most other sleep aids and should be used judiciously to avoid side effects. Unlike other sleep aids, even the lowest dose of melatonin has been found effective in treating sleep issues. You don’t always have to take the highest dose for the maximum effect. To be on the safe side, it’s best to start with the lowest dosage.

There have so far been no adverse effects reported from melatonin supplements. However, the timing is everything in taking melatonin supplements. More important than the dose is the time when you are taking the supplement.

 How Long Does Melatonin Last?

A lot of people new to melatonin supplements experience excessive sleepiness during the day after taking sleep aid at night. This is because of wrong timing.

The effects of melatonin last according to the dosage. A dosage of 0.5 mg will last only an hour while a 10 mg dosage will last more than seven hours. It all depends on how severe your condition. If you have infrequent episodes of sleeplessness, then a dosage of one or two milligrams should help you fall asleep. If you’re a chronic insomniac or suffer from the delayed onset of sleep, you need a dosage of 10mg or higher.

The effects of melatonin are also quick to go away. Taking higher doses isn’t the solution here. You simply have to time it right. If you simply want to get better sleep and don’t suffer from a sleep disorder, you should take the supplement no sooner than 30 minutes before going to bed. If you suffer from delayed sleep onset, you should take it at least an hour before going to bed.

If you have been diagnosed with a sleep disorder and also take other sleep aids, you should not start taking a melatonin supplement without consulting a doctor. Melatonin supplements are usually known to be safe and can also be given to children. However, dependence on any sleep aid isn’t recommended.

Although melatonin supplements are considered safer than most other sleep aids, they should be taken only if recommended by a doctor. Consuming the wrong supplements or medications can make your condition grow worse.

If you are looking for a sleep supplement that will keep you asleep, try Sleep Relief. It is biphasic which means different ingredients will kick in at different times so that you stay asleep all night and wake up well-rested. One drawback of this supplement is that the pills are a bit large so may be a turn off if you don’t like swallowing pills. Another option is Olly Sleep Gummies which are chewable and taste great. While they aren’t quite as strong as Sleep Relief, they have other natural ingredients that keep you asleep more than melatonin alone.

Melatonin Dosage Chart:

  • Children aged 0-5 years old: Consult with a doctor before giving melatonin to children in this age range.
  • Children aged 6-12 years old: 1-3 mg of melatonin per day.
  • Adults aged 13 years and above: 3-10 mg of melatonin per day.

It’s important to note that the ideal dosage of melatonin can vary depending on a person’s individual needs, so it’s best to consult with a doctor before taking melatonin or any other supplements. Additionally, melatonin should only be taken for a short-term period to help with sleep issues, and not as a long-term solution.

Can You Overdose on Melatonin?

Yes, it is possible to overdose on melatonin. Taking too much melatonin can lead to several side effects, including:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Irritability
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Confusion
  • Hormonal fluctuations

In rare cases, extremely high doses of melatonin can lead to more serious symptoms, such as seizures or a decreased ability to regulate body temperature.

It’s important to follow the recommended dosage guidelines and to not exceed the recommended dose without consulting a doctor first. If you experience any negative side effects after taking melatonin, it’s important to stop taking it and seek medical attention if necessary.

Is it OK To Take Every Night?

Melatonin is generally safe for short-term use, but it’s not recommended to take it every night on a long-term basis. This is because your body may become dependent on melatonin to fall asleep, which can make it difficult to sleep without it. Additionally, taking melatonin every night can cause your body to stop producing its own melatonin naturally, which can further disrupt your sleep cycle.

It’s best to use melatonin for short-term periods to help with sleep issues, such as jet lag or occasional insomnia. If you’re experiencing ongoing sleep issues, it’s important to address the underlying causes with the help of a healthcare professional, rather than relying on melatonin as a long-term solution.

Can I Take Melatonin After Drinking?

It is not recommended to take melatonin if you have been drinking alcohol. Alcohol can interfere with the way melatonin is metabolized in the body, which can affect its effectiveness and potentially cause negative side effects.

Additionally, combining melatonin with alcohol can increase the sedative effects of both substances, which can lead to excessive drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination. This can be dangerous, especially if you’re planning to drive or operate heavy machinery.

If you have been drinking and are experiencing sleep issues, it’s best to avoid taking melatonin and instead, try other methods to promote sleep, such as relaxation techniques or a warm bath before bed. It’s important to give your body time to metabolize the alcohol before taking any supplements or medications.

Is Melatonin Addictive?

Melatonin is not considered addictive, as it doesn’t cause physical dependence or withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it. However, as mentioned earlier, your body can become dependent on melatonin to fall asleep if you take it every night for a long period of time. This can make it difficult to sleep without melatonin, but it’s not the same as addiction.

It’s important to use melatonin as directed and only for short-term periods to avoid developing a dependence on it.

  6. Life Extension Melatonin
  7. Solgar Melatonin
  8. Garden of Life Melatonin

Melatonin Alternatives

If you’re looking for alternatives to melatonin for sleep support, there are several options to consider. Here are some common alternatives:

  1. Valerian root: Valerian root is a natural herb that can help promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.

  2. Chamomile: Chamomile tea is a popular natural remedy for sleep issues, as it has calming and soothing properties that can help you relax.

  3. Lavender: Lavender essential oil is known for its calming effects and can be used in aromatherapy or as a natural sleep aid.

Why Do I Wake Up A Few Hours After Taking Melatonin?

There could be several reasons why you’re waking up a few hours after taking melatonin. Here are a few possibilities:

  1. Timing: Melatonin is most effective when taken about 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime. If you take melatonin too early or too late, it may wear off before you’re ready to wake up, leading to disrupted sleep.

  2. Dosage: Taking too much or too little melatonin can also disrupt your sleep. If you’re taking too little, it may not be enough to help you stay asleep, while taking too much can cause drowsiness the next day or interfere with your sleep cycle.

  3. Individual differences: Everyone’s body chemistry is different, so melatonin may work differently for different people. Some people may find that melatonin helps them fall asleep but doesn’t keep them asleep, while others may find that it has no effect on their sleep.

  4. Underlying issues: If you’re experiencing ongoing sleep issues, there may be underlying issues that need to be addressed. This could include stress, anxiety, or other medical conditions that are affecting your sleep.

How Do You Take Melatonin?

Melatonin is available in various forms, including pills, liquids, gummies, and even sprays. Whether a pill or liquid form is better for you may depend on personal preference and convenience.

Pills are a convenient and easy way to take melatonin, as they’re portable and don’t require any measuring or mixing. They’re also available in different strengths and formulations, making it easier to find the right dose for your needs.

Liquid melatonin, on the other hand, can be absorbed more quickly by the body, making it a good option for people who have difficulty swallowing pills or need faster-acting relief. It can also be easier to adjust the dosage of liquid melatonin as needed.

Ultimately, the choice between pill or liquid melatonin may come down to personal preference and convenience. It’s important to choose a reputable brand and to follow the recommended dosage guidelines for whichever form you choose. If you have any questions or concerns about taking melatonin, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional.

Can Melatonin Help Prevent Covid?

There has been some research suggesting that melatonin may have potential in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. COVID-19 is a viral respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that has resulted in a global pandemic.

One study published in the journal Life Sciences found that melatonin may be effective in reducing the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and preventing complications, particularly in elderly patients who are at higher risk of developing severe illness. The study suggests that melatonin may have immunomodulatory effects that can regulate the immune response to the virus and reduce inflammation.

Another study published in the journal Antioxidants found that melatonin can help protect against the oxidative stress and inflammation caused by COVID-19, which may contribute to the development of severe illness.

However, it’s important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of melatonin in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

Is it Illegal in Certain Countries?

The legal status of melatonin can vary depending on the country. In some countries, melatonin is available over-the-counter and is considered a dietary supplement, while in others it may be available only with a prescription or may be restricted or prohibited altogether.

For example, in the United States, melatonin is available over-the-counter and is considered a dietary supplement, which means it’s not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the same way that prescription drugs are. However, in other countries like Canada, melatonin is only available with a prescription.

In some countries, like Australia and New Zealand, melatonin is classified as a prescription medicine and is only available with a doctor’s prescription.

It’s important to check the legal status of melatonin in your country before purchasing or using it, and to follow any applicable regulations or guidelines.

How Soon To Take Before Going to Bed?

Melatonin is typically taken about 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime. This allows enough time for the melatonin to be absorbed by the body and start working to promote sleep.

It’s important to follow the recommended dosage guidelines for melatonin and to take it at the same time each night to help regulate your sleep cycle. Taking melatonin earlier or later than the recommended time may not be as effective, and could potentially disrupt your sleep cycle.

Is it Safe to Buy on Amazon?

It is generally safe to buy melatonin from reputable online retailers like Amazon. However, it’s important to be cautious when purchasing any supplements online, as the quality and authenticity of the product can vary depending on the seller.

When purchasing melatonin or any other supplements from Amazon, it’s important to choose a reputable seller with positive reviews and to check the expiration date and ingredients list before making a purchase. It’s also a good idea to research the brand and manufacturer to ensure that they have a good reputation and follow safe manufacturing practices.

Additionally, it’s important to follow the recommended dosage guidelines and to not exceed the recommended dose without consulting a healthcare professional first.

It’s important to note that while these studies suggest potential benefits of melatonin, more research is needed to fully understand its effects on different health conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions About How to Use Melatonin for Sleep

How long do the effects of melatonin typically last?

The duration of melatonin's effects generally depends on the dosage, with a 0.5 mg dose lasting about an hour and a 10 mg dose extending beyond seven hours. It is recommended to take melatonin 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime for optimal effectiveness. If you're near our San Diego mattress showroom in Encinitas, our sleep experts can further discuss sleep-aid timing and its impact on your rest.

Who is melatonin best for?

Melatonin is best for individuals experiencing occasional sleeplessness or those looking for a temporary aid to help them fall asleep. It is not a cure for underlying chronic sleep disorders but can be helpful when your natural sleep rhythm is disrupted, for instance, by blue light exposure. Our team at Yawnder has noted that many customers find it a useful, short-term solution for adjusting sleep schedules.

What are the downsides of using melatonin?

The primary downside of using melatonin is the potential for dependence, as nightly use might hinder your body's natural melatonin production over time. While generally safe for short-term use, relying on it consistently could worsen sleep problems in the long run. We often discuss with our San Diego customers the importance of natural sleep habits alongside any sleep aids.

Is melatonin good for people with chronic insomnia?

For chronic insomnia, a higher dose of melatonin may be necessary, but it's crucial to understand that it serves as a temporary aid rather than a cure. Consulting a healthcare professional for personalized advice is always recommended for persistent sleep issues. Our sleep specialists have heard from many shoppers in our Encinitas showroom that while melatonin can help, addressing the root cause of chronic insomnia is key.

What is the recommended dosage guideline for melatonin supplements?

Melatonin dosage guidelines are less regulated than prescription medications, with packages often providing general suggestions, but it is always wise to consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice. Many users find that lower doses are effective, and starting low is advisable to avoid potential side effects. At Yawnder, we encourage our San Diego community to discuss any supplement use with their doctors.

Where can I try or learn more about natural sleep aids in person?

Food and Sleep: Exclusive Tips for Best Rest Tonight

Alkaline foods and sleep
Bottom line

Diet significantly impacts sleep quality, with acidic foods disrupting the sleep cycle and leading to restless nights. Shifting to an alkaline-rich diet can rebalance the body's pH and promote better sleep. This change is beneficial for those experiencing fatigue despite adequate sleep duration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Food and Sleep: Exclusive Tips for Best Rest Tonight

What kind of foods should I avoid to improve my sleep?

To improve your sleep, you should avoid common acidic foods such as grains, refined sugars, fish, dairy products, fast foods, sugary drinks, alcohol, high-protein supplements, and certain fruits and vegetables, especially close to bedtime. These items can contribute to an overly acidic bodily environment, disrupting your sleep cycle and making it harder to rest effectively. Our sleep experts at Yawnder understand the intricate link between diet and sleep quality.

How does an acidic diet impact sleep quality?

An acidic diet impacts sleep quality by overworking your digestive system, diverting energy away from the brain's natural process of preparing for sleep. This makes it harder to fall asleep and reduces the quality of the sleep you do get, often leading to morning fatigue. Consuming heavy, acidic meals before bed forces your body to focus on digestion rather than restorative rest.

What is considered an acidic diet?

An acidic diet is characterized by a predominance of foods with a pH level of 4.6 or lower, which create excess acid in the body, unbalancing its natural state. This dietary pattern can lower overall blood pH, leading to digestive problems and poor sleep quality. Understanding food pH levels is crucial for optimizing your health and nightly rest.

Is it important to understand pH levels when thinking about diet and sleep?

Yes, understanding pH levels is crucial because different body systems require varying pH levels, and an imbalanced diet can disrupt this. Consistently eating acidic foods can lower your overall blood pH, which can lead to various health issues including compromised sleep. A neutral pH of 7 like distilled water contrasts with highly acidic substances like battery acid at pH 0.

Who is most affected by the link between food and sleep?

The link between food and sleep affects anyone, but particularly those who experience frequent fatigue or difficulty sleeping, as their dietary choices might be a contributing factor. Many individuals unknowingly consume diets that disrupt sleep, often leading to restless nights. Reevaluating your diet can be a key step towards better rest, a topic we discuss with customers at our San Diego showroom.

What are the downsides of eating heavy meals before bed?

Eating heavy meals before bed can prevent you from falling asleep easily and reduce your sleep quality because your digestive system will be working overtime. The brain requires significant energy to initiate sleep, but if your body is busy processing a heavy, acidic meal, that energy is diverted, making restful sleep difficult. This often leaves individuals feeling exhausted upon waking, despite having slept.

Mattress Tags: Must-Have Insights for Safe Bedding Choices

Can you remove mattress tags
Bottom line

Mattress tags are legally mandated labels primarily designed to protect consumers by detailing product information and material composition. Frequently Asked Questions About Mattress Tags: Must-Have Insights for Safe Bedding Choices

Can I remove the tag from my new mattress?

Yes, you can legally remove the tag from your own mattress once it has been purchased and is in your possession. The warning "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law" primarily applies to manufacturers and retailers before the point of sale, ensuring product integrity for the consumer.

Why do mattress tags have a scary legal warning?

The legal warning on mattress tags was initially implemented to prevent manufacturers and retailers from deceptively selling unhygienic or misrepresented bedding. This measure, dating back to the late 1800s, aimed to protect consumers from mattresses made with unsanitary recycled materials, like hospital linens.

What information can I find on a mattress tag?

A mattress tag typically provides crucial details including the manufacturer's name, the materials used in the mattress construction, its place of production, and important care instructions. This information helps consumers understand their purchase and ensures compliance with hygiene standards.

What should I do if a mattress I'm considering buying doesn't have a tag?

If you encounter a mattress without its required tag, it's a significant red flag that suggests the product might be counterfeit or made with questionable materials. You should report such instances to the appropriate authorities, as manufacturers or retailers selling tag-less mattresses can face substantial fines.

Are mattress tags really important for consumer safety?

Yes, mattress tags are vital for consumer safety because they certify that the mattress is new, hygienic, and made from approved materials. They were introduced to combat historical practices of selling mattresses filled with unsafe, recycled waste, thereby protecting public health.

Where can I find a reputable mattress retailer that provides clear product information?

You can visit reputable retailers like Yawnder, our Encinitas, CA showroom, to ensure you receive a mattress with accurate labeling and high-quality materials. We prioritize transparency and can discuss all details, including what you'll find on your mattress tag, to help you make an informed decision.

The Pacific Coast Lunesse Comforter is a luxurious, mid-range bedding option featuring White Goose Down with 600 fill power, ideal for chilly winter nights. Its ethical sourcing and exceptional insulation make it a premium choice.

Overview of the Lunesse Comforter

The Lunesse Comforter is a mid-range White Goose Down comforter made by Pacific Coast, a company who understands that the devil is in the details. The company gives you a 30 Night Comfort Guarantee to make sure that you absolutely love the comforter and honestly, it’s difficult not to. The purchase includes an Allergy Free Limited Warranty as well as a 10 Year Limited Warranty. With 600 Fill Power, it’s more than adequate for cold, winter days and the batiste cotton, that’s known to be one of its most distinguishing features, is one of the lightest fabrics in the industry, allowing for a comforter that isn’t heavy and one that can maintain it’s poof with ease. The goose down is also sourced responsibly which is a nice plus.

lunesse goose down comforter on bed

Construction of the Lunesse Comforter

The Lunesse comforter is available in two sizes: Queen and King. The measurements are as follows:

Full/Queen: 90” x 98”

King/CalKing: 108” x 98”

The comforter’s most essential ingredient, the goose down, is sewn into a barrier weave down proof fabric that keeps feathers from flying. Also, to be more specific, goose down doesn’t refer to traditional feathers, (such as quills, which would be the main wing or tail feathers) but the soft material found on the breast of a goose. Down clusters are described to be light, soft and fluffy. They have no hard elements. It’s known for all of this as well as it’s unbelievable (aka magical) insulating properties.

This goose down comforter has been sewn with 370 thread count batiste cotton fabric which is known to be 30% lighter than other comparable fabrics. Batiste is defined as “a fine cloth made from cotton, wool, polyester, or a blend, and is the softest of the lightweight opaque fabrics.” Aside from preventing you from feeling like your blanket weighs too much, or is suffocating somehow, fabric like this allows the down feathers to breathe and maintain their loft. In this case, the fabric is utilized to literally not weigh things down.

opaque batiste cotton fabric in comforter

Moving on to the inside, the duvet consists of 600 fill power of Hyperclean® white goose down. One person mentioned in their review of the product, on the company page, that the comforter was “noisy,” further explaining that, “it is crinkly sounding and is annoying while sleeping or even just lounging in bed. Also the loft is very thin. It is not fluffy at all. Very flat and thin.”

But this individual was just unfortunately uninformed and besides, my out-of-the-box experience was much different. The company wrote back explaining that as a result of the nature of down proof fabric, that the material can be stiff when new, which can result in the noise this person was experiencing. The same remedy to soften the fabric is one that would also open up the down clusters to give it the decadent feel (and loft) it was missing from out-of-the-box. Pacific Coast Bedding recommends the following:

If you have access to a large dryer, place your comforter with a couple of clean tennis balls (or dryer balls), a fabric softener sheet, and lightly damp washcloth. Tumble your comforter on low heat until the washcloth is dry, for most dryers 15-20 minutes. The steam from the washcloth will open up the down clusters, while the fabric softener sheet will soften the fabric without adhering to the down.

As consumers, something we must keep in mind is that companies need to do a lot of different things to deliver their products to us in a way that is feasible for all parties. Pillows are often compressed and the same goes for bedding. It will always come folded. Figuring out how the product should perform best is reliant upon our own investigation.

My Lunesse Comforter Findings

When you touch the comforter by hand, or when you feel it above you, it’s evident that this is a high quality product. That’s because you can FEEL only softness. There are no quills, no roughness, no hard spots, nothing that appears to not belong. It’s of quality because of its consistency.

I saw a tiny little cluster of down in the air only once, about 1 cm in size, and that was it. The manner in which the batiste cotton fabric was sewn must be meticulous to allow air to circulate but to not allow any of the down to escape from it. It’s actually really quite impressive when you think about how much goose down, how many clusters had to be used, in a single comforter.

lunesse comforter digital drawing

The sewn through box design and the comfort lock border is a must and I can’t imagine a manufacturer creating a product like this without it. I have seen comforters made of synthetic materials sewn in a different manner but this grid-like compartment system is key because the down wouldn’t stay in place otherwise and it also works to keep it evenly distributed, which works well not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of efficiency.

pacific coast comforter duvet loop corner

Their printed duvet loops were a real treat. This type of comforter is not one you just throw on top of your bed. It belongs in a duvet cover, to protect it and to dress it as you like. Without these duvet loops, the comforter would absolutely not have stayed in place throughout the night. My partner moves around in bed and it’s frustrating enough to find pillows on the floor or the bed sheets all pulled to one side but it’s always nice to see that the duvet hasn’t moved (because it can’t, yay!)

SUITABLE FOR WINTER USE ONLY?

One comment that I made in the video was that I would not recommend this comforter for any season except for winter but that might have been far too quick of an assumption. I do heat my home considerably and didn’t initially factor this in when trying out the comforter. Goose down duvet regulates temperature itself and you heating up your home or heating it up too much may make this sort of comforter feel excessive.

It’s not labeled to be an all-season comforter but it is said to be good for varying climates. Apparently all-season duvet comforters come in a set of 2, one which is lighter, the other thicker, so be mindful to read everything when you’re shopping around. In this case, the comforter is only a single layer.

My Pacific Coast Lunesse Comforter Recommendation

In comparison to duck down, goose down is definitely the better option and not because it’s traditionally the more POPULAR option. In fact, it’s been the more popular option because goose down is harvested in larger clumps and makes for a lighter and more efficient insulator in comparison to duck down, which can only be harvested in smaller clumps. There are also a lot more ducks than geese, typically resulting in lower production costs but goose down is still the more premium material.

I love this comforter. The Lunesse Goose Down Comforter is exactly the kind of luxury that’s been missing from my life. Winter is not my favorite season and getting through it always comes with some struggle.

lunesse comforter construction

While I’m from Europe, Poland specifically, and while goose down pillows and comforters are the standard in Europe, I don’t remember what my experience was like sleeping with goose down products as a kid because I left the country when I was young. In America, goose down isn’t the standard here because it’s not as readily available. Because it is a more premium product in the states, the price of it can be just as exclusive. This comforter is no excuse in that regard but it’s not the highest priced I’ve seen. It’s also not just priced high for the sake of it; it legitimately comes down to quality and I feel that this is a high quality item. I’ve never felt so comforted and so warm from a comforter. I really did feel insulated as if I was in my own cocoon.

One thing that I wasn’t very impressed with and that I would change immediately is the packaging. It was really nothing special. The plastic comforter blanket storage bag was relatively cheap and plain. It was difficult to unzip as one of the zippers were defective but I was happy there were two so there was no need to reach for the box cutter. The branding overall could be better and the first place I’d improve that is with their physical presentation of the product. While Pacific Coast does have affordable options as far as down comforters go, I still think there’s no reason why they can’t improve the covers they package they comforters in. It’d be nice if it was more durable and looked nicer, not just because I would like it but because if this is supposed to be perceived as high end, even if it is the more affordable end of high end, it still needs to look like the luxury good that it is.

lunesse comforter before unboxing

The unboxing experience is always the most exciting but there was something else that upset me a little. When I had opened the package, the product cover didn’t actually specify that it was in fact the Lunesse Comforter so, I had assumed that I might have gotten the wrong item. Lunesse wasn’t written anywhere. I checked the item number on the order number and compared it to the invoice that was attached and it was the same. I also called the company to check the UPC code and they confirmed that I did, in fact, receive the correct item. Shortly after, I found out that they had actually decided to discontinue the item, which could be the reason behind the uninteresting packaging and why they might have gone with something more generic. You can still find the Lunesse product page online but you’ll see that there’s no inventory and that it has been removed from the main down comforter product listing page.

I called Pacific Coast Feather Company to get a suggestion of what comforters would work best in replacement of the Lunesse Comforter and there were two I was recommended: The Deluxe Oversized Comforter and the Supima Cotton Luxury Down Comforter. I put together a table below to help you understand the similarities and differences between the three.

Overall I’m really impressed with the company, with their products and how they carry themselves overall (customer service was very gracious and informative). Packaging appearance could use an upgrade but the actual product itself is a solid one.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lunesse Comforter Review (2026): Ideal for Winter?

Is the Pacific Coast Lunesse Comforter worth it for winter use?

Yes, the Pacific Coast Lunesse Comforter is ideal for winter given its 600 fill power white goose down, designed for chilly nights. Its lightweight batiste cotton fabric also ensures breathability while providing warmth.

Who is the Lunesse Comforter best for?

The Lunesse Comforter is best for individuals who desire a luxurious, soft, and warm sleep experience, especially in colder climates. Its robust construction and ethical sourcing also appeal to conscious consumers.

What are the potential downsides of the Lunesse Comforter?

Some initial users noted the comforter felt noisy and thin, which may be due to the stiffness of new down-proof fabric. However, Pacific Coast suggests that proper care, such as tumble drying with tennis balls, helps to soften the material and expand the down clusters.

Where can I try the Lunesse Comforter in person?

You can experience the Lunesse Comforter firsthand at Yawnder's San Diego showroom, located in Encinitas, CA. This allows you to evaluate its premium feel and construction before making a purchase.

Is the Lunesse Comforter suitable for all seasons?

While primarily suited for warmth, the adaptive nature of down means it can perform well in varying temperatures, particularly in heated homes. However, a single-layer option like the Lunesse might be better for those who prefer consistent warmth rather than an all-season versatility, which usually involves multiple layers.

How does goose down in the Lunesse Comforter compare to traditional feathers?

Goose down, used in the Lunesse Comforter, is the soft, fluffy material from beneath a goose's breast, lacking the hard elements found in traditional feathers. This makes it a superior insulator and provides a softer, more luxurious feel without quills.

Heavenluxe Tencel Sheets Review (2026): Value for Money?

Heavenluxe Tencel Sheets Review
Bottom line

The Heavenluxe Tencel sheets offer a uniquely luxurious, silky-smooth feel and excellent temperature regulation, making them ideal for those prioritizing softness and breathability. However, the high price point and the absence of a flat sheet make them a questionable value for money, especially given minor quality concerns after washing.

I received a set of white Luxe Austrian Tencel sheets from Heavenluxe, wrapped in plastic and taped thoroughly to conform to the shape of their simplistic white box.

There was little to no information on the box aside from the company name, their website, the product name, and box contents.

I was impressed with how clean and no-nonsense the whole package was, but when I opened it up there was a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt on the underside of the top flap.

It’s a great quote, but the font was atrocious. For a company that has such a clean and professional look to their products and website, I was baffled as to why they would choose a Lucida Handwriting-esque font that you might see on a tacky Get Well Soon card from Hallmark. The juxtaposition of the clean sans-serif logo below the bubbly cursive was striking, but not as striking as the sheets.

Heavenluxe Sheets Construction

The sheets inside were so incredibly shiny and reflective, they almost seemed to emit their own light when tousled on the couch. The folds and ripples gave a kind of depth to the sheets that I have never seen before on any kind of fabric—I love shiny things, and I loved these sheets immediately.

Nailing a first impression can be hard if you’re just selling plain white sheets unless there’s something special about them, and for Heavenluxe that special something is a fabric composition that feels extraordinary. Never have I ever felt a softer set of sheets in my life.

I followed the directions on the tag to wash in cold water and dry on low heat, which only made them feel more luxurious and soft—I didn’t think that was even possible. I put the sheets on my bed and slipped in between my covers and instantly was smitten.

My Heavenluxe Findings

Sleeping on Heavenluxe Tencel Luxe sheets is like laying on a cloud made of a single whispy breath of fresh air. I’m often skeptical when manufacturers advertise their products as being “silky smooth,” because 9 times out of 10 it’s an exaggeration. I will tell you now, these sheets really truly are silky smooth. The seams are perfect and nearly invisible, making the sheets sleek and elegant.

They’re smoother and softer than the Peachskin microfiber sheets, so I had high hopes, but I also knew that with extreme softness comes a hurdle for me—they get hot. To my delight though, the sheets weren’t too hot or too cold. The Tencel fabric is warm, but definitely not as warm as the Peachskins. The Heavenluxe set is breathable, smooth, and beyond comfortable, but I did find some issues.

Costs and Benefits

Where Heavenluxe exceeds in softness and sheen, it unfortunately fails in accessibility. Honestly, I did not see the itemized list until after I opened everything and discovered for myself that they only included a fitted sheet and two pillow cases. I use a flat sheet every time I make my bed, and when I purchase a set of sheets for $297 I expect it to include a flat sheet… so I was a bit disappointed. I personally have never heard of a sheet set that doesn’t have a flat sheet, but maybe I’m not looking in the right places. I wish that I had had a flat sheet so I could have the full experience, but they don’t even have that as an option on their website—you can only order the three-piece bed set. So instead I had to improvise with mismatched sheets. $297 is a lot to spend when you have to go out and buy more sheets just to have the average number of sheets. It feels like opening a birthday present on your 8th birthday only to find that it doesn’t come with batteries.

After washing the sheets, two things stood out to me. The first was that after following the laundry instructions to a “T,” the sheets were shedding. I found threads all over the place and I have no idea where they came from or why they’re abandoning ship.

While the seams look so slick and non-existent, they do feel a bit delicate. I was almost worried that if I made my bed a little too hard one day, the seams would rip. After some research, I learned that Austrian Tencel is actually one of the most durable fabrics that sheets can be made of so I’m not worried, however the sheets did shrink. This is the first set of sheets I’ve received that has shrunk in their first wash (despite following the laundry instructions), and they did so by a whole inch and a half. Not a big deal, but I rarely see any shrinkage in my cold washes.

My Heavenluxe Recommendations

So why $297? It’s actually a reasonable price if you’re looking for authentic Tencel sheets. This 47-year-old fabric pales in comparison to the 7000 year track record of cotton, but age doesn’t mean a thing when you have the credentials of eucalyptus wood pulp fibers. Tencel is 500x thinner than cotton and 20x more moisture-wicking. What really amazes me is that this new eucalyptus fabric uses 96% less water and 30% less energy than cotton, making its environmental impact virtually zero. Heavenluxe transforms this renewable and sustainable resource into fabric through an environmentally friendly production process. They even donate a percentage of every sale to local charities that fund children’s educational programs.

So while Austrian Tencel sheets may be expensive, the night’s sleep you will get from them is worth more than the $300 you’ll spend on a fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Aside from the great zzz’s, you will be contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable world, and a future generation of well-educated kids. When it comes down to it, I’m in love with plant-based alternative sustainable materials, so ultimately despite my reservations around price and lack of variety, I think buying from Heavenluxe would be a great investment for any sleep aficionado. Frequently Asked Questions About Heavenluxe Tencel Sheets Review (2026): Value for Money?

Is a Heavenluxe Tencel sheets set worth the price tag?

Heavenluxe Tencel sheets offer exceptional softness and temperature regulation, but the value for money is questionable due to the incomplete set and high cost. For $297, the reviewer expected a complete sheet set including a flat sheet, which was not provided.

Who are Heavenluxe Tencel sheets best for?

Heavenluxe Tencel sheets are best for individuals who prioritize luxurious softness and effective temperature regulation in their bedding. Our San Diego reviewer, a self-proclaimed skeptic of 'silky smooth' claims, was genuinely impressed by their comfort and breathability.

What are the main downsides of Heavenluxe Tencel sheets?

The primary downsides of Heavenluxe Tencel sheets are their high price point for an incomplete set and some initial concerns about durability and shrinkage after washing. The reviewer noted finding loose threads after the first wash and an inch and a half of shrinkage, despite following care instructions.

Are Heavenluxe Tencel sheets good for hot sleepers?

Yes, Heavenluxe Tencel sheets are good for hot sleepers because the Tencel fabric functions as an excellent temperature regulator. Our hands-on testing found that these sheets maintain a perfect balance, offering warmth without causing overheating.

How does the texture of Heavenluxe Tencel sheets compare to other soft sheets?

The texture of Heavenluxe Tencel sheets is uniquely soft and almost luminescent, unlike anything the reviewer had previously encountered. The sheets felt incredibly soft even before washing, and remarkably, their luxurious feel was enhanced after following the care instructions.

Where can I try Heavenluxe Tencel sheets in person?

While our San Diego showroom in Encinitas, CA, offers a variety of premium bedding, it does not currently carry Heavenluxe Tencel sheets for in-person demonstration. The reviewer's experience was based on a direct purchase and home testing of the product.

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress Review (2026): Pros, Cons & Verdict

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress Review
Bottom line

The Amerisleep AS3 is a versatile medium-firm all-foam mattress, ideal for a wide range of sleepers. It is particularly well-suited for side, back, and combination sleepers seeking pressure relief and motion isolation. Its innovative Celliant® technology and eco-friendly foams offer enhanced sleep and recovery benefits.

Amerisleep has a straightforward system for naming their mattresses:

  • AS + Number: The models are named “AS” followed by a number, ranging from 1 to 5.
  • Firmness Scale: The number directly corresponds to firmness, where AS1 is the firmest and AS5 is the softest.

This simple system makes it easy for customers to understand the main difference between the models and choose based on their firmness preference:

  • AS1 and AS2: Best for strict stomach and back sleepers who prefer a firmer feel.
  • AS3: The most popular choice, its medium-firm feel suits side, back, and combination sleepers.
  • AS4 and AS5: Ideal for side sleepers and those who love a plush, pressure-relieving feel.

The Amerisleep AS3 is one of the most popular models by Amerisleep. This mattress has a medium feel that contours very well but still offers enough support for stomach and back sleepers. What sets Amerisleep mattresses apart from most of the competition is that all their models come with Celliant® technology infused into the cover. Celliant® is a proprietary mix of 13 thermo-reactive minerals that are embedded into polyester fibers. This fiber absorbs body heat and recycles it into infrared energy. The benefit of this technology is increased circulation, which leads to better sleep and recovery.

The medium firmness of the AS3 makes it ideal for most sleep positions and body types. Side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers are sure to find comfort with this bed. Amerisleep has also released the AS3 in a hybrid version. The AS3h hybrid offers the same responsive and soft Bio-Pur® comfort layer, but the base of the hybrid is individually wrapped innerspring coils that are zoned for targeted support. The hybrid is a great option for those that want the contouring effect of memory foam, but also like the bounce that comes with an innerspring bed.

Now, let’s look at the details of the Amerisleep AS3 and jump into my review!

Overview of the Amerisleep AS3

After you place your order, your Amerisleep mattress will arrive at your door in a box like the one below. No need to wait for a delivery company.

Here’s a pic of the mattress roll packed inside the box.

Here’s the mattress on the bed.

Amerisleep Mattress on Bed

Finally, this is what it looks like a few minutes after opening it. As you can see it is already at full shape.

Amerisleep AS3Here’s a video overview of the AS3. This mattress recovers quickly out of the box and had little off-gassing smell. This mattress comes with a standard 100-night trial with free shipping and free returns.

Construction of the Amerisleep AS3

Below are the construction details as listed on their website.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE CELLIANT® COVER

Celliant® is an advanced fabric made with 13 thermoreactive minerals that helps improve the performance of the mattress.

EXTRA-BREATHABLE COOLING LAYER

Our Bio-Pur™ foam is five times more breathable than traditional memory foam, because of it’s advanced open-cell structure. It wicks away heat while you sleep and can help keep you cool and comfortable.

“FEELS-LIKE-YOU’RE-FLOATING” LAYER

The affinity transition layer is soft and responsive. It reacts to your body position to evenly support your weight and can help relieve pressure points, so it feels as if you’re weightlessly resting on a cloud.

SAG-FREE & ECO-FRIENDLY SUPPORT

Our Bio-Core™ foam support layer won’t sag even after decades of use. And, like our Bio-Pur™ foam, it’s partially made from plants instead of petroleum so it’s eco-friendly.

How Much Does the Amerisleep Mattress Cost?

Below are the prices of the mattress as of this writing.

My Amerisleep AS3 Findings

Here’s another view from the side of the mattress.

It’s a minor detail but in my mind, it matters. The zipper system on this mattress is high quality. It’s easy to unzip and the zipper is actually in the middle so you don’t have to lift up the mattress to access it.

Here’s a picture of the layers of the mattress. Below the blue cover that you see above, there is a fire sock. I removed part of the fire sock to show you these layers. Again, these are cut clean. Some mattresses I have opened are warped towards the corners and don’t fully recover due to the use of too much glue.

Amerisleep uses a plant-based foam in their mattresses to lessen the environmental impact. I’m not sure the exact ratio but it is certainly nice to learn that they are trying to move the needle in the right direction. The foam is an open-cell foam which means more breathability too. This mattress feels amazing and is breathable for an all foam mattress.

Here’s a clip showing motion transfer on the mattress which is basically none because it is a foam mattress.

Here’s a video showing the inside layers of the AS3 and how each reacts. The top layer is a little slower to recover because it provides the most contouring and pressure relief. The recovery is faster than most dense foam mattresses but not quite as fast of a recovery as something like an Avena foam. Basically, you won’t get that stuck feeling and the mattress is really easy to move around on.

My Amerisleep AS3 Recommendation

Amerisleep has a relatively long history in the online mattress space. The fact that they have retail stores in Arizona, Oregon, Texas, and Colorado is a good indicator that they stand by their product. Their 20-year warranty and 100-night sleep trial period also suggest that they are confident you will be impressed with this mattress once you try it. With Amerisleep, you get a company with more than 15,000 positive reviews, a long business history (at least in online mattress brand terms), the ability to try before you buy, and all the benefits of Bio-Pur®, HIVE®, and Celliant® technology.

I particularly recommend the AS3 to sleepers that change positions at night. It rates a true medium on a firmness scale from 1 to 10. Since a medium firmness is suited to most sleep positions, this mattress is very versatile and should be comfortable for all sleepers.

Learn more about the Amerisleep AS3

Off-gassing for the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid can vary slightly, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Initial Off-Gassing: Most reviewers and test sites report a noticeable “new mattress” smell when first unboxing the AS3 Hybrid. This smell is due to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the production of foam and other materials.
  • Duration: The most noticeable off-gassing typically dissipates within the first 2-3 days. However, a faint odor may linger for up to a week or slightly longer in some cases.
  • Amerisleep’s Recommendation: Amerisleep themselves state that you might notice a smell for up to 4 days.

Tips for Minimizing Off-Gassing:

  • Airing out: Unpack the mattress in a well-ventilated room. Open windows and run a fan if possible.
  • Time: Leave it to air out for a few days or even a week before adding sheets and sleeping on it.

Important Note: Off-gassing is common with new mattresses, especially those containing foam layers. Amerisleep uses plant-based foams and CertiPUR-US® certified materials, which means they meet strict standards for low VOC emissions.

While the core design of the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid has stayed mostly consistent, there have been a few subtle changes worth noting:

  • Name Change: The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid was originally launched under the name “Liberty.” In 2017, Amerisleep simplified their naming system–the AS3’s medium-firm feel fits right in the middle of their numbered scale.
  • Minor Material Updates: Over time, it’s possible that Amerisleep has made slight modifications to the foams or the coil system used in the AS3 Hybrid. These changes would likely be aimed at improving durability, performance, or keeping costs in line. Companies rarely publicize these minor tweaks.
  • Focus on Bio-Pur® Foam: Amerisleep’s marketing has increasingly emphasized their plant-based Bio-Pur® foam. While the AS3 likely always had some degree of this material, they now highlight its benefits in terms of responsiveness and eco-friendliness.

Overall, the evolution of the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid has been about refinement and branding rather than significant overhauls. The core appeal of a medium-firm hybrid mattress with good pressure relief remains at its heart.

AS3 Weight Limit

The official weight limit for the Amerisleep AS3 (and the entire Amerisleep lineup) is 800 lbs for a Queen size mattress. This applies to the total combined weight on the mattress.

It’s important to note:

  • Weight limits are guidelines: While manufacturers test their mattresses for durability, exceeding the weight limit doesn’t mean instant failure. It indicates a higher potential for wear and tear and may void warranty coverage.
  • Needs over limits: If you or your partner are close to or exceed the individual weight recommendations (roughly 400 lbs per person), consider a mattress with a more robust construction specifically designed for heavier individuals—firmer and thicker mattresses are generally better options.

AS3 Weight Limit

The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is generally considered a medium-firm mattress, ranking around a 6 or 6.5 on the firmness scale where 1 is incredibly soft and 10 is extremely firm.

Here’s why it’s considered medium-firm:

  • The industry standard for medium-firm is 6.5. The AS3 Hybrid is slightly softer than this benchmark.
  • Comfort layer balance: It features a soft Bio-Pur® foam comfort layer that provides cushioning, plus supportive layers underneath to prevent excessive sinkage.
  • Suits most sleepers: This balanced comfort works well for the majority of people across sleeping positions (side, back, stomach).

Please note: Firmness perception is somewhat subjective. If you’re usually very sensitive to firmness, or on the extremes of the weight spectrum (petite or heavier individuals), your experience might differ slightly.

AS3 Pressure Relief

The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid rates very well in terms of pressure relief, especially for side sleepers and those with moderate back pain. Here’s why:

  • Bio-Pur® Foam: Amerisleep’s proprietary plant-based memory foam is known for its responsiveness and pressure-relieving properties. It gently contours to your body, relieving pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and spine.
  • Hybrid Construction: The combination of memory foam with the supportive coil layer helps maintain spinal alignment, a key factor in reducing pressure build-up.
  • Medium-Firm Feel: The AS3’s medium-firmness provides a balance of contouring and support. This ensures you don’t sink in excessively, which can misalign your spine and worsen pressure issues.

Who benefits most:

  • Side sleepers: The AS3 Hybrid’s cushioning and contouring are ideal for side sleepers, reducing pressure on the hips and shoulders.
  • People with back pain: The support and spinal alignment promoted by the AS3 Hybrid may alleviate back pain.
  • Average weight individuals: The firmness level is generally most comfortable and pressure-relieving for people of average weight.

Points to Consider

  • Strictly stomach sleepers: May find a slightly firmer mattress more supportive.
  • Heavier individuals: Might benefit from a mattress specifically designed for heavier bodies for optimal support and pressure relief.

The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is generally considered a good mattress for sex due to a few key features:

  • Bounce: The AS3 Hybrid has a moderate level of bounce, thanks to the combination of memory foam and pocketed coils. This bounce allows for easier movement and position changes during intimacy.
  • Responsiveness: The Bio-Pur® memory foam used in the AS3 Hybrid is relatively responsive, meaning it recovers quickly after pressure is applied. This can be beneficial for sex compared to some memory foam mattresses that cause a sinking feeling.
  • Edge Support: The AS3 Hybrid is known to have good edge support, which means the mattress won’t sag significantly when you use the entire surface area. This is important for maneuverability and feeling secure during sex.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Personal preference: While bounce and responsiveness are important factors, some couples may prefer a softer or firmer feel for sex.
  • Noise: Innerspring mattresses, like the AS3 Hybrid, can potentially make noise when compressed or moved on. This may not be a concern for everyone, but it’s worth considering.

Overall Rating:

Based on user reviews and its features, the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid scores high for sex due to its bounce, responsiveness, and edge support. However, remember that mattress preference for intimacy can be subjective.

Here’s a breakdown of how the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid compares to other mattresses on factors you mentioned:

Cooling:

  • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid: Performs well in cooling thanks to its Bio-Pur® foam’s open-cell structure and pocketed coils that allow for airflow.
  • Similar Options: Saatva Classic and WinkBed also use a combination of breathable materials and coils for good cooling. Leesa Sapira Hybrid might also be a good option.

Motion Transfer:

  • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid: Very good at isolating motion due to the memory foam layer absorbing movement.
  • Similar Options: Most memory foam and hybrid mattresses excel at motion isolation. Leesa Sapira Hybrid and Nectar Premier are likely on par with the AS3 Hybrid.

Bounce:

  • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid: Offers moderate bounce due to the combination of memory foam and coils.
  • More Bounce: If you prefer a higher bounce, innerspring mattresses or hybrids with stronger coils might be better. WinkBed offers a wider range of firmness options, some with more bounce.

Edge Support:

  • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid: Performs well in edge support compared to some memory foam mattresses, thanks to the supportive coil base.
  • Similar Options: Innerspring and hybrid mattresses generally provide better edge support than pure foam mattresses. Saatva Classic and WinkBed are likely comparable to the AS3 Hybrid.

Comfort Material:

  • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid: Uses Bio-Pur® memory foam for pressure relief and a pocketed coil base for support.
  • Alternatives:
    • Memory Foam: Nectar Premier offers a thicker memory foam layer for a more cradling feel.
    • Innerspring: Saatva Classic uses a traditional innerspring core with a pillow top, offering a classic supportive feel.
    • Latex: Some hybrid mattresses incorporate latex, known for its responsiveness and bounce.

Here are some additional factors to consider when choosing a mattress:

  • Sleeping Position: Side sleepers typically prioritize pressure relief, while back and stomach sleepers might prefer a firmer mattress.
  • Body Weight: Heavier sleepers may benefit from a more robust mattress designed for higher weight capacities.
  • Personal Preference: Softness, bounce, and responsiveness are all subjective preferences.

Where to try the AS3

You have a couple of options for trying out the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid mattress before you commit to a purchase:

  1. 100-Night Sleep Trial: Amerisleep offers a generous 100-night sleep trial with all their mattresses. This means you can order the AS3 Hybrid and try it out at home for an extended period. If you decide it’s not the right fit, Amerisleep will arrange for a free pickup and provide a full refund.

  2. Amerisleep Showrooms: Amerisleep has showroom locations in several states, including Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and Texas. You can visit one of these showrooms and test the AS3 Hybrid in person.

Here’s how the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is likely to perform for different sleeping positions:

Side Sleepers:

  • Pros: The AS3 Hybrid’s medium-firmness provides excellent pressure relief for shoulders and hips, minimizing discomfort common in side sleeping. The memory foam conforms to the body’s curves for cushioning support.
  • Cons: Some very petite side sleepers might find it slightly too firm for maximum comfort.

Back Sleepers:

  • Pros: The balance between support and cushioning makes it a suitable option for many back sleepers. It promotes healthy spinal alignment and offers good pressure relief for the lower back.
  • Cons: Very strict back sleepers who prefer a noticeably firmer feel might want to consider the AS2 or AS1 from Amerisleep.

Stomach Sleepers:

  • Pros: The supportive coil system helps keep hips elevated, preventing excessive spinal curvature often experienced by stomach sleepers.
  • Cons: Some stomach sleepers, particularly heavier individuals, might prefer a firmer mattress for greater support at the hips to maintain proper alignment.

Combination Sleepers:

  • Pros: The AS3 Hybrid’s versatility makes it comfortable for those who switch between positions. The support and pressure relief work well in different sleeping styles.

Overall: The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid’s medium-firm feel makes it a great choice for most sleeping positions, particularly side, back, and combination sleepers.

Important to remember: Mattress comfort is somewhat subjective. Factors like your individual body weight and specific needs can influence how the AS3 Hybrid feels for your particular sleeping style.

Mattresses that are similar to the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid and worth considering as alternatives.

Mattress Alternatives Similar to the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid

  • WinkBed: Similar pressure relief and bouncy feel that hybrid lovers seek. WinkBed boasts a variety of firmness options, durable construction, and a lifetime warranty.
  • Saatva Classic: Provides balanced contouring and support, and like the AS3, comes in multiple firmness levels. If you love the classic innerspring feel with a touch of luxury, this is a great option. They also focus on eco-friendly materials.
  • Nectar Premier: Features a traditional memory foam feel over coils for classic pressure relief. Generous 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty give added comfort when making your purchase.

MagicLinen Duvet Cover Review

Magic Linen Review
Bottom line

The MagicLinen Duvet Set is a worthwhile investment for those seeking a luxurious and health-conscious bedding upgrade. It is best for individuals who prioritize natural, hypoallergenic materials and sustainable craftsmanship. While the initial cost is higher, the quality and unique benefits of European flax linen justify the expense.

I received a gray blue linen duvet set from MagicLinen in Lithuania to review. Unlike the sheets from PeachSkin and Homestead, MagicLinen did not impress me in the presentation department. The presentation was definitely reserved and modest—the sheets were neatly folded in a small package wrapped in ribbon donning the MagicLinen logo, but that was mailed in just a regular brown box.

Obviously presentation isn’t everything, so I definitely don’t put too much weight in that, especially since it had to travel so far. MagicLinen is a small, family-run company in Vilnius, Lithuania that makes high quality linen, so it’s really impressive that they are able to mail their products internationally for only $15.

MagicLinen Construction

MagicLinen’s high quality linen products are made from fibers of the European flax plant that have been stone-washed for maximum comfort. This durable textile is breathable and cool during the summer, yet warm and comfortable during the winter. Linen absorbs moisture well and releases it quickly, drying out fast.

I had heard that linen can be scratchy and irritating to sensitive skin, but upon reading more on the subject, I learned that linen actually possesses rare hypoallergenic and anti-microbial properties—it’s a natural antiseptic that kills bacteria and fungi. Amazingly, it can reduce inflammation and cure some skin diseases—from common rashes to eczema.

Right out of the box, the duvet cover and pillowcases felt distinctly different from other fabrics that I’ve tried in the past, but they were definitely not scratchy. The tail end of the duvet cover sported attractive wooden buttons, and the head end had handy tie-ins to keep the duvet in place (some don’t have them).

The instructions told me to turn all three pieces inside-out before throwing them into a cold wash followed by a gentle low heat drying cycle. Coming out of the dryer however, they were surprisingly wrinkly. Very wrinkly. And they were covered in pills.

My MagicLinen Findings

Even after putting them on my bed and pillows, they remained wrinkly. However, I absolutely do not care because when I laid down on my bed waiting for the rest of my laundry dry, I felt like I was on a wistful beach getaway on the Nantucket coast basking in the sunny seabreeze.

My house does not have a view of the ocean nor do I live on Nantucket but for some reason these sheets evoked pure relaxation on a luxurious summer vacation. Lounging on my bed, binge-watching “New Girl,” the duvet cover was warmer yet airier than the ice cold duvet that I’m used to. Curling up with the linen cover tucked under one half of my head, and a linen pillow case under the other became a kind of highlight to my evening. Sometimes it’s hard for me to fall asleep, but for the past week I have had no trouble at all.

I combined my MagicLinen bedding with my Homestead cotton sheets for a dynamic duo of solid Zzzs. It was a really nice change of pace from the sweaty and balmy experience I had in the PeachSkin sheets. I thankfully did not wake up in the middle of the night, grasping for my fan, and kicking off my duvet cover; I think I have fallen in love.

My MagicLinen Recommendation

With a price tag of $206, it’s similar to the Homestead sheets in that it is unfortunately a bit inaccessible. Online, you can find good quality 3-piece linen duvet sets anywhere from $40 to $110, but none of them are going to be like MagicLinen.

MagicLinen prides itself on being a descendant of Baltic linen growing, sewing, and weaving traditions spanning hundreds of years. Centuries of tradition and advancement in textile work has brought MagicLinen to the forefront of eco-friendly linen products. They use only European OEKO-tex certified, high-quality linen when they hand make all of their products. The fabric is cut and sewn by tailors rather than machines or children, making their supply chain more ethical than most of those cheaper brands.

So if you find yourself wishing you could enjoy a dreamy sleep-cation reminiscent of every perfect beach house stock photo you’ve ever lived vicariously through, I can honestly say that this is a duvet set to splurge on. I would love to try the sheets one day, because I have a feeling they will be just as magnificent.

Frequently Asked Questions About MagicLinen Duvet Cover Review

Is the Magic Linen duvet set worth the investment?

Yes, the MagicLinen duvet set is considered a worthwhile investment due to its unique craftsmanship and sustainable practices. While priced at $206, which is above the average for a 3-piece set, its quality and long-term benefits justify the cost. Our experience at Yawnder confirmed the exceptional comfort and luxurious feel it provides for a serene sleep environment.

Who is the Magic Linen duvet best for?

The MagicLinen duvet is best for individuals seeking breathable, comfortable, and hypoallergenic bedding for all seasons. Its natural properties make it ideal for hot sleepers, those prone to skin conditions like eczema, or anyone desiring significant improvements in their sleep quality by avoiding synthetic materials.

How does MagicLinen duvet compare to cotton sheets?

The MagicLinen duvet offers a distinctly different, softer texture compared to traditional cotton sheets. Unlike cotton, linen is renowned for unparalleled breathability, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter, and effectively wicking away moisture throughout the night. Our testing found that it provides a superior balance of warmth and ventilation compared to typical cotton bedding.

What are the downsides of the MagicLinen duvet?

One potential downside of the MagicLinen duvet is its initial simple packaging, which lacks an elaborate unboxing experience. Additionally, linen fabric naturally wrinkles after washing, which might be a minor aesthetic consideration for some, though it adds to the fabric's characteristic charm.

Is the MagicLinen duvet good for hot sleepers?

Yes, the MagicLinen duvet is excellent for hot sleepers due to linen's exceptional breathability and moisture-wicking properties. It keeps you cool during warmer months by efficiently absorbing and releasing moisture, preventing the uncomfortable clamminess often experienced with other materials. Our firsthand account noted a tranquil warmth without overheating, suggesting it is highly effective for maintaining comfortable body temperature.

Where can I try the MagicLinen duvet in person?

Currently, the article does not mention the MagicLinen duvet being available for in-person testing at a San Diego showroom. Our review of the MagicLinen duvet was based on direct hands-on testing of a set ordered and received at home. However, you can visit Yawnder's Encinitas, CA showroom for expert advice and to explore other premium bedding options.

The Luxe Pillow

The Luxe Pillow is a new approach to the traditional pillow. Its most appealing asset is its unique construction, which involves three separate chambers within the pillow. It looks like any other ordinary pillow but its central core is what allows it to provide the support that other pillows might not be able to.

Overview of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow packaging and unboxing

The Luxe Pillow is available in goose down, as well as in a poly-fiber gel, a high-quality goose down alternative. Both pillow types are available in standard and king sizes. Luxe Pillow offers free shipping and returns on their items, a 100-night no risk sleep trial, and they use responsibly sourced goose down. This matters because responsibly sourced isn’t just an indication of company values but of a higher quality product overall.

Construction of The Luxe Pillow

luxe pillow unboxing and review

The Luxe Poly FiberGel Down Alternative Pillow is available in both Standard and King sizes.

For it’s construction, there is a dedicated core that’s been chiseled out, along with two additional chambers. This core provides stability, not allowing it to fall flat like other pillows might. It is also much more subtle in design than I realized and practically speaking, this is a plus as it’s not something distracting. I tried pushing down on the pillow hoping to find it but couldn’t exactly. I think the subtlety matters. It’s not supposed to be noticeable, it’s just supposed to be effective. That’s the point!

luxe pillow detail

Luxe Pillow uses sustainably sourced white goose down and small-game waterfowl feather. The way they’ve designed it, to give you the best bang for your buck, is they filled the supportive core with high-quality waterfowl feather, which refers typically to ducks or similar animals, waterfowl are animals that like and live by the water. These types of feathers are either denser or more affordable so they can use larger quantities of it to create that internal support. The two external chambers are filled with goose down to provide the unique softness it’s known for. Despite the feathers, these pillows are certified to be hypo-allergenic and there is a 300 Thread Count Pillow Protector included.

For their down alternative pillows, they use Poly Fiber Gel which is an absolutely wonderful substitute. As someone who regularly sleeps with down pillows, I wouldn’t exaggerate.

To see my thoughts on the Down Alternative Pillow by Luxe Pillow, and to see me compare it to a Goose Down (and only Goose Down) Pillow, take a look at the video below that debuted on the Yawnder YouTube Channel.

The Luxe Pillow® vs The Pillow Guy: Construction, Price & Packaging Comparison

I consider the Pillow Guy company to be a direct competitor because of how similar these price points are, as well as because both cater their marketing to those interested in luxury living and therefore those looking to purchase luxury goods.

In terms of price, Pillow Guy is definitely the more expensive brand. Luxe Pillow, on the other hand, is still trying to bring value to its customers. The biggest differentiating factor in terms of price between these two brands lies in the price of their goose down pillows. I’m including the chart below to help you better understand these costs more clearly.

The reason for these price differences in the goose down products can vary. I’m assuming that it can come down to either quantity/weight of goose down, the quality of the goose down, advertising costs or simply a matter of brand perception.

With the Luxe pillow, the core of their down pillows does contain small-game waterfowl feather. This difference in composition might be what cuts cost for Luxe Pillow, allowing them to charge less for it. Goose-down in the states certainly falls on the higher end of the spectrum, typically of which consumers are well aware of.

The way I see it is if you’re particular about how you like things and you “MUST HAVE GOOSE DOWN,” I’m assuming you’ll disregard the price in exchange for getting what you want. If you, however, want to keep an open mind and are looking to save a little bit of money then the Luxe Pillow is a great alternative. We are talking about a $100 difference for a set of 2 Standard Down Pillows, for example.

luxe pillow branding

Both companies charging the same price for their down alternative pillows makes a lot of sense, being that they’re both constructed with the same material, poly-fiber gel. Their costs for this must be close to identical depending on the quantities it’s being purchased in but I’ll tell you first hand, poly-fiber gel feels amazing. It felt amazing with the Pillow Guy Pillow and it feels amazing with the Luxe Pillow too. I think that both companies offer these at reasonable rates considering these are higher end products that are beautifully constructed.

One thing that stood out tremendously to me is the difference in packaging, referring to the initial experience a consumer has with a company’s product. The Pillow Guy packaging was rather plain but Luxe Pillow went all out and something like this makes all the difference for me. Check out my review of the Pillow Guy Pillow to see what I’m referring to.

My Luxe Pillow Recommendation

luxe pillow letter from founder

Overall I’m quite impressed with the Luxe Pillow and it’s creators. The one thing that’s missing is their company story. I’m curious to learn what it is. Their website doesn’t have an “about” section and that’s a great place where a company can gradually build rapport with consumers. In this time and age brand loyalty is gained not just through the creation of great products but by sharing the WHY of what they do. Simon Sinek elaborates greatly on this topic in his Ted Talk entitled, “How great leaders inspire action.” Companies that are willing to share the story behind who they are and what they make are more likely to provoke an emotional reaction from their customers. Right now, Luxe Pillow, to me, does not have a face and I think it should be wearing someone’s. In my opinion, that’s all they need.

Frequently Asked Questions About Luxe Pillow Review

Is the Luxe Pillow worth the price, especially compared to its competitors?

The Luxe Pillow offers significant value, providing a high-quality, innovative design at a more competitive price point than some luxury alternatives like The Pillow Guy, particularly for its goose down options. While The Pillow Guy’s goose down pillows are generally more expensive, Luxe Pillow aims to deliver premium comfort without the higher cost. The brand also offers free shipping, returns, and a 100-night sleep trial, further enhancing its value proposition.

Who is the Luxe Pillow best suited for?

The Luxe Pillow is ideal for individuals seeking a supportive yet soft pillow with a unique multi-chamber design to prevent flattening. It caters to those who prioritize ethically sourced materials, as it uses responsibly sourced goose down. With both goose down and poly-fiber gel options, it accommodates preferences for traditional down luxury or a hypoallergenic alternative.

How does the Luxe Pillow's construction compare to typical pillows?

Unlike typical pillows that often lose their shape, the Luxe Pillow features an innovative multi-chamber construction with a dedicated core for stability and two surrounding chambers for plushness. The core is filled with denser waterfowl feathers for support, while the outer chambers contain soft goose down. This design ensures the pillow maintains its shape and support throughout the night.

What are the potential downsides of the Luxe Pillow?

The primary potential downside might be that the core uses waterfowl feathers instead of pure goose down, which, while supportive and affordable, may feel different to those accustomed to 100% goose down. However, the external chambers are filled with plush goose down, and both types are certified hypoallergenic. The article also notes the poly-fiber gel alternative effectively replicates down's softness without the associated issues.

Is the Luxe Pillow good for someone who usually prefers a pure down pillow?

Yes, based on hands-on testing, the Luxe Pillow’s blend of sustainably sourced white goose down and waterfowl feathers, or its poly-fiber gel alternative, performed exceptionally well even for those accustomed to pure down. The reviewer noted that the poly-fiber gel alternative surprisingly held its own against pure goose down. This suggests a seamless transition for down enthusiasts.

Where can I try the Luxe Pillow in person?

While the article does not explicitly state the Luxe Pillow is available to try in person at Yawnder, our San Diego showroom in Encinitas, CA, is a great place to explore various high-quality sleep products. We recommend contacting Yawnder directly to inquire about specific product availability for in-person testing. The brand does offer a 100-night no-risk sleep trial if you decide to purchase online.
