It will arrive to your door in a box but inside the box you will find it encased in a custom cloth package like the one below. I don’t think I’ve come across fancier packaging for a pillow.

How Much Does the Four Seasons Pillow Cost?

Well, it’s not cheap. It currently retails for $149 plus tax. Shipping is free and for me, it arrived quickly. They do offer a 30-day return policy but ask that the item be returned in, “as new” condition. You also need to pay return shipping so it can be costly to return and it’s is vague as to whether or not they will accept it.

My Four Seasons Pillow Findings

This pillow feels as expected. What I mean by that is that there’s nothing proprietary about the construction and therefore nothing spectacular about the feel either. What you do get is an ultra-soft and conforming pillow that only down can provide. Pure down is expensive so to save on costs, feathers are added. The more feathers the less expensive. Since this pillow is 75% feathers, it shouldn’t be that expensive to make. An all down pillow will also be lighter than one blended with feathers and will have a more consistent feel. If you use all feathers, that will make it feel lumpy and will need to be fluffed more often.

Here’s a picture of the pillow right out of the packaging. It is a standard size and doesn’t require you to fluff it since it does not come compressed like less expensive pillows.

My Four Seasons Pillow Recommendation

Overall this pillow feels great and should appeal to all types of sleepers. It’s miles better than any poly fill pillow you would find at a target or Walmart but I don’t think it can command such a high price. That said, if you slept at a Four Seasons and fell in love with their down pillow, this is the one to get. If you want a similar alternative. Pillows.com offers one with a similar construction for about a third of the price and in that case, it makes more sense to try the cheaper alternative to get a similar feel and save some money or buy more pillows.

My Idle Gel Mattress Findings

At first glance, this mattress looks and reads like the hundreds of others that you will find online. In fact, once you start searching for a mattress, you will be inundated with mattress ads leaving you thoroughly confused. As your sleep guide, I have already done the homework and slept on all the leading brands and most of the smaller brands to give a fair assessment of how the Idle Gel stack up.

First off, this mattress is an incredible value. Given the financing options and the 18-month trial this would be my first choice for anyone looking for a memory foam mattress. Chances are you are going to like how it feels. It is great for side and back sleeping and firm enough for occasional stomach sleeping. Ideally, you should be sleeping on your side to avoid snoring and get optimal rest.

Idle really hit the nail on the head with using 3 inches of buoyancy foam. It instantly contoured to my body and the transition layer gave me the proper support. This is where other brands can miss the mark. Too little comfort foam will make the mattress to stiff while too much will make it too doughy.

Idle also provides 2 free pillows with the mattress. You can always use new pillows and these are made with shredded foam that is consistently cut. You can take out foam to make the pillow a little thinner by accessing the zipper on the side.

There’s no motion transfer with this mattress as you can see in the video clip below which makes it great for couples.

This mattress incorporates cooling gel foam on the top layer which helps with heat dissipation but more importantly, the foam isn’t very dense so it is a bit more breathable. It doesn’t have a phase change cover like the Idle Plush but adding that would only temporarily provide some cooling. I slept on this mattress for over 2 weeks and during a heatwave and didn’t have any issues sleeping hot. Most of the time I find that people are still sleeping with a down comforter in the summer. I would instead advise a light blanket.

My Idle Sleep Recommendation

The Idle Gel Foam is exactly the kind of foam mattress I would design for maximum comfort. Subtle changes in the density and types of foam used and how it is all put together can make a big difference and Idle has this feel dialed-in perfectly. Most mattress companies say their feel is a medium-firm but that really means nothing without context. This mattress is a true medium feel and that’s a hard feat to achieve.

How Long is the Idle Plush Mattress Trial Period?

Idle Sleep offers the longest trial period of any brand that I have reviewed. You get 18 months to try out the mattress in your home. That’s a year and a half or 540 days! If you for whatever reason, don’t like it after that time, it’s a free return with a full refund. The standard among online mattress brands is 100 nights, some companies upped the ante with a 1-year trial but Idle is way ahead of the pack here.

My Idle Plush Mattress Findings

This is one of the softest mattresses I have ever tried. This makes it most suitable for side sleepers or back sleepers that want maximum pressure relief. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress for stomach sleepers because it just doesn’t have enough support for your lower back when sleeping on your stomach.

My Idle Sleep Plush Mattress Recommendation

I recommend the Idle Gel Plush to people looking for a very soft mattress. If your main concern with sleep is pressure relief, then this a great choice. One of the issues with really soft mattresses is that they are prone to trapping heat and although this is a soft foam mattress, Idle has incorporated cooling gel into the top layer to help a bit with cooling. That said, it will sleep a bit warmer than a firmer mattress simple because you will be hugged more by this mattress.

Idle Sleep has taken away any reason to give their mattresses a try. 18 months is more than enough time to see if its right for you and you get a full refund if you want to return it within that time frame. If you have tried other plush mattresses online and still are finding one that is soft enough then the Idle Plush would be my top pick for you.

My Brentwood Home Seat Cushion Findings

I mostly review mattresses but seat cushions use basically the same materials as they are all designed to provide pressure relief so it was fun to see how Brentwood Home would fair with their new entries into the seat cushion market.

Brentwood Home always does well with details. The cover has a zipper so that you can easily remove it and wash the cover when it gets dirty. It probably isn’t going to get that dirty in an office environment but if you take it to a baseball game and sit on it in the bleachers it certainly will and it’s nice to know it can be cleaned because you will be more inclined to take it on the go.

The inside is a 2-inch piece of latex which seems to be the right amount of latex for a cushion. Any more and you would sink too much and any less wouldn’t provide much noticeable relief.

Here’s a closeup of me adding a little pressure to the cushion. Also, notice that the latex has holes throughout. These holes are created when they pour the latex into a mold. It provides great airflow to keep you cool.

In the future, no one will have to sleep alone. And thanks to the Somnox Sleep Robot, the future is now. The Somnox Sleep Robot is a sleep aid designed to help you fall asleep faster. About 20% of the population suffers from some sort of sleep problem and Somnox has created a device that helps put you to sleep without the use of supplements or prescription medications. The device is designed to be hugged so that you sleep in the fetal position which helps with breathing and proper neck alignment. The Somnox mimics a slow breathing pattern for you to follow so that you naturally slow your breathing and fall asleep faster.

The first step is to cover it with the provided machine washable cover. I would advise washing the cover first before attaching. Once the cover is on, you can plug it in to charge. Mine came with some charge but its best to fully charge it before use. Once it is fully charged you can then sync it to the free app provided on Google Play or iTunes.

The sleep robot retails for $599. It comes with a 30-night trial where if it doesn’t work for you, it’s a free return. If you decide to keep it, you are covered under a 2-year warranty. Yes, that’s a lot of money for a little robot but if you take prescription sleeping pills or supplements, this may be a great long term alternative that may actually save you money down the road.

My Somnox Findings

Once your Somnox is set up, you can give it a name and it even comes with its own birth certificate. Since you will be spending a lot of time with your robot, it helps to personalize it.

I already use a white noise machine in my bedroom so using the white noise through the robot wasn’t necessary. My first night using the Somnox I decided not to take my typical sleep supplement which includes melatonin. I wanted to see if the Somnox would be able to at least work as good as an over the counter supplement.

I decided to try inputting my initial breathing rate then my target breathing rate the first night. It worked well and helped my drift off to sleep but I recommend using the adaptive breathing function which will automatically sync with your breath rate and gradually slow it down. At first, it can be hard to not focus on your breathing but eventually, I didn’t even think about it and made it a routine.

It takes about 45 minutes for the Somnox to put you to sleep and then after that it will turn off. No need to hold it throughout the night if you don’t want to. Falling asleep is usually not that hard for me but I often wake up around 3 am to use the bathroom and when I get back into bed, that’s when I start having thoughts that eventually ramp up and prevent me from falling back asleep. This is where I get the most value from Somnox. To restart robot, you just push the power button again and it will help control your breathing and get you back to sleep.

It common knowledge that by slowing our breathing in stressful situations we become more relaxed, less worried. The genius of Somnox is that it trains your body to do this whether you remember to or not. The Somnox Robot app also has a napping and relaxing mode that are designed to train you for controlled breathing along with calming music. It can even be used to help with meditation.

My Somnox Recommendation

The thought of taking a robot to bed with me every night sounded strange at first but after experiencing the benefits, I really understand why it’s such a novel invention. Given all the stressors and stimuli in modern life, it’s a lot to ask for our bodies to just turn it all of when we switch off the bedroom lights. Somnox is a way to bring our breathing and our bodies into a relaxed rhythm and help block out the world so that we can get our best sleep, naturally.

My Dagsmejan Findings

Dagsmejan pajamas are made with Nattcool Fabric. According to their website they are:

8x more breathable than cotton

– Dries in 1/3 of the time of cotton

– Releases water vapour 60% better than cotton

So if you normally sleep with cotton pajamas you are in for a treat.

For this review, I was sent the extra-large. I’m about 6ft. 4 inches tall and these fit well. The shorts I was sent were slightly loose but didn’t feel like they would fall off.

If you look closely you can see an upside-down triangle pattern on the shirt. It’s very subtle but adds some interest.

There are no tags with these pajamas so you won’t notice any irritation. The set I received is part of the Balance collection which has Nattwell Fabric. Which, as you can see below is mostly micro modal. It’s much softer than cotton, more substantial feeling than silk and stretches too.

I love how these pajamas feel. So much so that I have used the top during the day since it looks nice and no one would know it’s a pajama top. I also like how the shorts come with pockets. The sizes are true to fit. Yes, these pajamas are a bit expensive but they feel amazing still keep that feel after multiple washes. Dagsmejan recommends air drying your pajamas to extend the life. I accidentally put mine in the dryer a few times but it didn’t damage them.

Angel Sleeper Review: Why It Failed My Side Sleeping Test

Ben here. I’m usually the first guy to roll his eyes at "As Seen on TV" sleep products. They often promise the moon and deliver cheap foam. But you guys keep asking me about the Angel Sleeper Pillow by Copper Fit, specifically the commercials claiming it fixes everything for side and back sleepers.

So, I bought one. No freebies here. I ordered the standard size ($40) to see if it deserves a spot on your bed or if it’s just marketing fluff.

The Yawnder Verdict

Is it worth it? Maybe. If you are a back sleeper or a petite side sleeper on a budget, it’s a decent value.

The "Gotcha": If you have broad shoulders (like me), this pillow is a hard pass. It physically lacks the loft (height) to fill the gap between your ear and the mattress, which is a recipe for neck pain. For the same price, I’d point you toward more substantial options.

Unboxing: Better Than Expected?

I expected a chemical smell and a long wait. To my surprise, the shipping—which they warned would take 3 weeks—arrived in 4 days. Underpromise and overdeliver? I can respect that.

It wasn't vacuum sealed, which is rare these days. This meant zero off-gassing time. You can literally sleep on it the night it arrives. It comes in a reusable zippered pouch, which is a nice touch for storage.

At my showroom in Encinitas, I tell everyone: Alignment is king. If your spine isn't straight, you aren't hitting deep sleep.

Copper Infusion: They claim the copper-infused cover reduces odors. I can’t verify the microbial science in my showroom, but it stayed fresh during my testing period.

The mattress will arrive compressed in the box. This is no way damages the mattress. Latex and springs are heavy so this mattress is a two-person job, maybe 1 strong person. How Does the Brentwood Home Hybrid Latex Feel?

Most latex mattresses will feel a bit firmer than foam. It’s simply because latex doesn’t conform quite as well as foam but latex has its own advantages. Because latex is basically rubber, it is incredibly resilient and literally bounces back instantly, just like a rubber ball, so you get quick recovery, good bounce, which some people seek out, and its just easy to change positions at night.

There is some motion transfer that you can expect from any spring mattress but it is minimal because all the coils work independently. They don’t skimp on any of the components. If anything the spring system would be the first to break down but they use the Legget & Platt coils which are the best in the business so this mattress will have a very long lifespan.

I found it to be great for any sleeping position and that’s thanks to the great coils system which provides great support. If you are a hot sleeper, you’re in luck too because latex doesn’t trap that much heat. When they pour the latex into the mold, it leaves holes behind which increases airflow. The natural wool also helps regulate temperature.

One of the downsides to the Avocado bed frame is that they are often back ordered due to popularity and the fact that they are all somewhat unique but I think they are well worth the wait. You can always buy an Olee bed frame while you wait for your permanent one to arrive.

Best Retail Store Bed Frame for Heavy People – Pottery Barn

We have had some Pottery Barn bed frames in the Yawnder stores and they hold up extremely well. If you are shopping at Pottery Barn, West Elm or Crate and Barrel, all of these stores make great beds that will hold up well for heavy people but stay away from the mid-century modern styles. They look flimsy and because they have a minimalist style, there’s only so much material to work with. Stick with a more traditional style like the picture above and you will be happy. What I like about store brands is that you can actually test the bed yourself in the store. If you are shopping for a bed frame, don’t overlook traditional retailers. You often will also find frames from these brands with bed storage. While they don’t specifically make a frame for a heavy person, the quality definitely can support heavier people.

I tend to stay away from bed frames from larger retailers like Target or Walmart because those frames arent as sturdy. Same with Ikea. I don’t think their niche is designing a bed frame for an obese person. While they should hold up for a little while, in my experience in our showrooms, these types of frames eventually break down and are not worth the hassle of replacing with such a short lifespan.

Best Mid-Century Modern Bed Frame for a Heavy Person – Thuma

If you are looking for a minimalist looking bet that has a high weight limit, the Thuma Platform Bed is your best option. It is very easy to assemble with no tools required. Instead, Thuma uses Japanese Joinery and sits about 10 niches high. While it doesn’t look like it, This is a heavy duty bed the a much higher weight capacity than other platform beds. It can hold up to 1,500 lbs. according to Thuma. Since it’s made of wood, you don’t have to worry about any squeaking noises that you can get with a metal platform bed or another type of metal frame.

If you are on a budget, check out the Charm 2.0 bed from Valyou furniture. It’s basically the same as the Thuma and is also a heavy duty bed with a high weight capacity similar to the Thuma. One drawback with the Charm 2.0 is that unlike the Thuma, this bed does not have a sturdy headboard option. You instead get a headboard pillow which also comes standard with the Thuma but Thuma recently released their sturdy headboard that is also solid wood and works seamlessly with the base. 

My Final Recommendation on Beds for Heavy People

There are plenty of other brands and stores that offer quality beds for heavy people but this post gives you a good sense of what to look for. Again, an adjustable bed is always a great investment but that’s especially true for heavy set couples. If you are looking for an inexpensive option, a steel frame from Amazon will work but it will have some drawbacks as I have outlined above. By all means, stay away from cheap beds with wooden slats! They won’t hold up and you will probably end up on the ground sooner than you think. Finally, if shopping online isn’t your thing, check out some of the traditional retailer sand keep in mind that you often get what you pay for.

I recently received the new budget-friendly mattress from Leesa called Studio by Leesa. This is a 3 layer foam mattress similar to the original Leesa. What sets it apart from the original Leesa mattress which is also a 3 layer foam construction is that it does not sink in as much. Therefore it is more suited to people who want a mattress that has less contouring. As more of a side sleeper myself, I found the Leesa a little too firm for my taste but I think it a wonderful mattress for back and stomach sleepers looking for a quality mattress that is made in the USA at a great price.

Here is a video review of the Leesa Studio. Unlike most foam mattresses this one sprang to life and was ready to sleep on almost immediately. I did notice some off-gassing which took a few days to dissipate so if you are sensitive to smells you probably should open this in another room to let it air out for a few days. How Does the Leesa Studio Compare to the Original Leesa Mattress?

Since both the Leesa and Leesa Studio are 3 layer foam mattresses, it’s easy to compare. I appreciate that Leesa includes the foam density of each layer. As you can see below, the Leesa Original has denser foam at the top and transitional layers which will make it more durable and provide better pressure relief. The Leesa studio has a half in less comfort and transitional foam and makes up the height with an extra inch in the base layer. This is how they have saved on cost and it does make for a different feel.

As you can see below, this mattress doesn’t have all that much sink to it but since it is all foam, it didn’t feel overly firm either. For reference, this is a 14 lb. bowling ball.

Here you can see that I’m not sinking in all that much while on my side. My shoulders give in a bit but my hips don’t sink much at all. Some sleepers really appreciate this and I would advise having a pillow thick enough to make up for the lack of sinkage at your shoulders.
