Purple Restore Plus Review: The Firmness Sweet Spot
The Restore Plus takes the Restore’s firm build and adds an extra inch of GelFlex Grid on top. For heavier back and stomach sleepers, this is where Purple‘s engineering peaks — firm enough to prevent hip sinkage, cushioned enough to eliminate shoulder pressure.

Quick take
Best for: Back and combo sleepers 180–260 lb who want firm support with more grid cushion.
Where the Rejuvenate Plus’s thicker grid softens things, the Restore Plus’s thicker grid balances firmness. Heavier sleepers stop bottoming into the coil layer under pressure points; lighter areas still sit high on the firm base. Best support-to-comfort ratio in the line.

What “Plus” actually buys you in the Restore family
Purple positions RestorePlus as its back-pain hybrid: a deeper 3-inch GelFlex Grid over zoned coils in a 13-inch profile. Zoning means the coil unit is firmer under the lumbar region than under the shoulders, so the grid can collapse where your shoulder needs room while the middle of the bed still pushes back. That combination — soft at the contact points, firm under the waist — is the mechanical reason people with lower back complaints often land here rather than on an all-foam bed.
Model
How Purple builds it
Rejuvenate
DreamLayer top with 2″ GelFlex Grid, 14.5″ tall — the entry point into the pillowtop line
RejuvenatePlus
DreamLayer top with 3″ GelFlex Grid plus Active Response+ foam, 15.5″ tall
Good fit: back sleepers and back-dominant combo sleepers, anyone who has tried a firm mattress and found it punishing at the hips, and couples who want a hybrid with real edge support.
Poor fit: dedicated side sleepers under about 130 lbs, who often cannot push far enough into a 3-inch grid to get shoulder relief; a Rejuvenate model is the more forgiving shape. Stomach sleepers who want a flat, firm surface will also prefer a firmer hybrid without a pillowtop.
Foundation and base requirements
Purple is specific about what goes underneath, and it is the single most common reason a new grid mattress feels wrong. Purple states that a slatted foundation works only when the slats are no more than 5 inches apart, and that an adjustable base must be rated to at least 750 lbs. A solid platform surface is also fine. If your existing frame has wide slats, add a bunkie board before you judge the feel — the grid will sag into the gaps and read as unsupportive.
Buying terms (from purple.com, September 2026): 100-night sleep trial that starts the day the mattress is delivered, and a 10-year limited warranty that applies to the original purchaser with dated proof of purchase and intact law tags. Resold mattresses are not covered.
Frequently asked questions
Does the GelFlex Grid feel like memory foam?
No. Memory foam softens with body heat and holds an impression; the grid is a hyper-elastic polymer that buckles under concentrated weight and springs straight back everywhere else. That is why the surface can feel firm to a hand press and soft under a hip, and why it does not warm up the way foam does.
Do I need a special sheet set?
Not a special material, but check the pocket depth. The Restore models are 13 inches and the Rejuvenate models run 14.5 to 17.5 inches, so deep-pocket sheets are worthwhile on anything in the Rejuvenate line.
Can it go on an adjustable base?
Yes, provided the base is rated to at least 750 lbs, per Purple’s own compatibility guidance. Grid mattresses flex well, so articulation is not a problem.
Is the extra grid inch worth it over the base Restore hybrid?
It changes how much of your body the grid can swallow before you feel the coils. If you are over roughly 200 lbs or you sleep on your side part of the night, the deeper grid is the more useful upgrade. If you sleep on your back at average weight, the difference is smaller than the price gap implies.
