Helix Weighted Blanket

helix weighted blanket

Overview of The Helix Weighted Blanket

Weighted blankets are known to mimic deep pressure touch stimulation, which allows the body and mind to feel more at ease, significantly reducing anxiety. This is possible thanks to an increase in serotonin and melatonin. The Helix Weighted blanket however isn’t just “another” weighted blanket on the market. Rather, it offers some nice changes that are unique to it, one of those being it’s unbelievably reasonable price without having to compromise on quality.

Construction + Warranty Information of The Helix Weighted Blanket

The Helix Blanket has a one-year limited warranty, along with a 100-day trial. It’s available in three different weights: 10 lbs, 15 lbs and 20 lbs however the size of the blanket, the dimensions, don’t ever change. You can find the pricing, measurements and other product details below:

10 lbs = $99
15 lbs = $105
20 lbs = $115

Blanket dimensions: 72” x 48”
Outer Cover: Fleece and sheared microfiber.
Inner Blanket: 100% cotton cover filled with fine-glass beads.

My Findings on the Helix Weighted Blanket

Before you even dive into this review, one thing worth noting is that when you’re looking to jump on the purchase of a weighted blanket, you want to be super mindful of the actual weight component. The most recommended calculation to help you determine what weight is most suitable for you, you’re supposed to calculate 10% of your body weight and if you’re not sure how to plug that formula into a calculator, Google will even do it for you. You can literally just Google, “10% of 135” for example. You get the idea. Whatever number results, you want to round down, rather than round up. If it’s too heavy, you might not be entirely pleased with it so I advise individuals to round down to play it safe.

Weighted blankets have evolved since they were first introduced to the market. In the beginning, the most common thing consumers could expect would be a blanket that was composed on tiny beds inside of it. That’s what contributed to its weight. The weight was also known to shift easily, sometimes leaving people to feel like the weight distribution wasn’t even. Very rarely will the distribution be “perfect” but in some ways, companies have gotten a little more clever and made some improvements.

helix weighted blanket carry case 2

In this case of the Helix weighted blanket, whatever material has been used to add the weight to the blanket, they’re much smaller than what I’ve experienced in the past. With previous blankets, I’ve seen people even refer to some of them as “noisy” because the individual would shift, so would the pellets, making this almost rolling sound. That’s not the case here. The sound of the blanket when it’s moved sounds more like shifting sand than anything else. It’s much more subtle than what I’ve experienced in the past, which is a nice change.

helix weighted blanket duvet loops

The competitive thing about this blanket is definitely its price. Since the release of this product, other blankets have come onto the market at lower cost but how low can you go until companies need to reduce the quality of the product in order to meet budget-minded consumers halfway? In my experience, this product does not skimp on quality due to its price. Being that Helix relies on other products for their revenue, this blanket does not make or break their brand. For companies that only produce this single product, that’s surely a very different story.

helix weighted blanket sheared fabric

What are some other pluses? In terms of the blanket itself, the quality of the weight that makes it heavy is probably its strongest asset because it is so free of noise however, it’s appearance with the sheared fabric cover is definitely a nice touch that I haven’t yet seen on any other weighted blanket in the sleep marketplace. In addition to that, there are duvet ties inside the cover that attach to duvet loops on the blanket itself. This keeps the corners of the blanket in place, which helps to avoid the blanket from shifting or bunching. It also comes with a super nice carry case that can serve as exactly that or at least as a dust cover for when in storage.

My Helix Weighted Blanket

I think weighted blankets are something everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. More than anything, they’re just fun because they’re so unusual. Luckily when it comes to sleep products, they will almost always find a home so if you’re willing to buy this blanket just to try it, there’s no need to be reluctant. I’m sure a family member or good friend would be happy to adopt it if you’re finding it’s not exactly for you. What more? Well, their ability and effectiveness at reducing anxiety is pleasantly surprising. If you’re looking to ease your anxious tendencies, this is a very natural way to do so.

Reviewing the Viral Weighted Anxiety Dino: Pillowfort’s Comforting and Adorable Stuffed Animal

weighted dino

Weighted stuffed animals are becoming increasingly popular as part of the category of Deep Pressure Stimulation or Deep Pressure Therapy products. One particular stuffed animal, a green dinosaur from Target’s Pillowfort brand, has gone viral on TikTok as the “TikTok-Famous Weighted Anxiety Dino”. The stuffed animal has become so popular that it has gone out of stock, with over 24 million views under the search term “target weighted stuffed animal” on TikTok.

As a result, we decided to review this viral stuffed animal and see what the fuss is all about. The Pillowfort stuffed animal is available in four different “characters” including the green dinosaur, a pink dinosaur, a cheetah, and a unicorn. We tested the green dinosaur and found it to be comforting, calming, and just plain adorable.

We recommend this stuffed animal for anyone who struggles with anxiety, loves stuffed animals, or finds cuddling with pets calming. However, if you’re looking for all-over Deep Pressure Touch or if weighted products make you feel claustrophobic, this may not be the best choice for you. The stuffed animal is made of velvety soft exterior and is filled with polyester fiber fill and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) pellets to give it weight.

In terms of pricing and policies, you can purchase the weighted anxiety dinosaur from Target for $20. Overall, we found this stuffed animal to be a success and provide a lot of comfort and joy. It’s an affordable product that is cozy, calming, and just downright adorable.

Weighted stuffed animals, like the weighted dinosaur, can help with anxiety in a few ways. First, the weight of the animal can provide deep pressure stimulation, which can help to calm the body and mind. Second, the soft and cuddly texture of the animal can provide comfort and security. Third, the animal can serve as a distraction from anxious thoughts and feelings.

Here are some of the specific ways that a weighted dinosaur can help with anxiety:

  • Deep pressure stimulation: Deep pressure stimulation is a type of touch that can help to calm the body and mind. It is thought to work by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body’s “rest and digest” response. Weighted blankets and stuffed animals are two common ways to provide deep pressure stimulation.
  • Comfort and security: The soft and cuddly texture of a weighted dinosaur can provide comfort and security. This can be especially helpful for people who experience anxiety or stress. The animal can serve as a reminder that they are not alone and that they are safe.
  • Distraction: A weighted dinosaur can also serve as a distraction from anxious thoughts and feelings. When you are feeling anxious, it can be helpful to focus on something else. Holding or cuddling a weighted dinosaur can help to take your mind off of your worries and give you a sense of calm.

It is important to note that weighted stuffed animals are not a cure for anxiety. However, they can be a helpful tool for managing anxiety symptoms. If you are interested in trying a weighted stuffed animal, be sure to talk to your doctor or therapist first. They can help you to determine if a weighted animal is right for you and can provide you with guidance on how to use it safely and effectively.

Blanquil Weighted Blanket Review – 4 Years Blanked Out

blanquil review

What is a BlanQuil blanket?

A BlanQuil blanket is a type of weighted blanket that is made with a special type of filling called microbeads. Microbeads are small, lightweight, and very dense, which makes them ideal for use in weighted blankets. BlanQuil blankets are also designed to be breathable and moisture-wicking, making them comfortable to use in all seasons.

Negatives of weighted blankets

While weighted blankets have many potential benefits, there are also some negatives that should be considered before using them:

  • Not suitable for everyone. Weighted blankets are not recommended for people with certain medical conditions, such as sleep apnea, asthma, claustrophobia, or circulatory problems. They are also not recommended for children under the age of 3.
  • Can be uncomfortable. Some people find weighted blankets to be too heavy or uncomfortable to use. This is especially true if you are not used to sleeping with a heavy blanket.
  • Can be expensive. Weighted blankets can be more expensive than traditional blankets.

Do doctors recommend weighted blankets?

Some doctors do recommend weighted blankets for people with certain conditions, such as anxiety and insomnia. However, it is important to talk to your doctor before using a weighted blanket, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions.

Do weighted blankets actually work?

There is some scientific evidence to suggest that weighted blankets can be effective for improving sleep quality and reducing anxiety. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.

Overall, weighted blankets can be a safe and effective way to improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety for some people. However, it is important to talk to your doctor before using a weighted blanket, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions.

Overview of The Blanquil Blanket

The Blanquil Quilted Weighted Blanket is designed to maximize your sleep and make you feel at ease. Weighted blankets are known to offer a snug experience similar to that of a hug. This light pressure is known to relieve stress and anxiety and promote deeper sleep.

It’s offered in 15lbs and 20lbs and a simple calculation will help you decipher which is most suitable for you based on your body weight.

For adults between 100 – 140lb it is suggested to get the 15lb and for anything more, they suggest the 20lb blanket. The calculation goes that the blanket should be approximately 10% of your body weight.

blanquil weighted blanket branded packaging

No matter the weight, the blanket is priced at $169.00. They do however offer discounts to Military Service members and First Responders for their efforts and sacrifices they made for the country.

Blanquil has a 60-day return policy and offers a 5-year warranty. and the item must be returned with the original packaging and no damages. Despite this generous return period, Blanquil will not cover the cost of shipping.

 Construction of The Blanquil Blanket

The Blanquil Quilted Weighted Blanket has a removable cover so that you can stay cool in summer but also stay warm in the winter. Both portions of the blanket are machine washable.

blanquil weighted blanket rolled up

The Cover is made up of Ultra Plus Micro Fiber: Outer 100% Polyester Velvet, Lining 100% Polyester, Fill 100% Polyester Batting.

The inner blanket is made up of 100% cotton and the filling is made of Glass Pellets that are Eco-Friendly.

The blanket is available in some awesome colors: Grey, Taupe, Charcoal, Navy, Pearl and Lilac.

Its dimensions are 48” X 74” as it’s designed to be suitable for one person only. Should a couple want to share, they’d need two separate blankets to be able to do so.

Blanquil Blanket Findings

I noticed that when weighted blankets first came onto the scene that people were paying a premium. While the premium cost still tends to apply most of the time, there are other options out there but remember that more often that not that you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s worth going for what seems like the more “extravagant” item, knowing that it’s made well and that it’ll stay intact. Sure, maybe you can find an item for a fraction of the price but can you imagine all of those pebbles inside the blanket coming undone? I don’t even want to picture it. I suggest working with a company that stands by its quality and that also is willing to replace any defective items. For those offering wholesale rates, they may not be able to make the same promise.

blanquil blanket removable outer cover

The Blanquil blanket is different from the first weighted blanket I’ve ever tried. For one, it looked MUCH nicer. It wasn’t just a bare weighted blanket. It had a lovely outer cover and it was great for the colder months. While traditionally velvet is made from silk, there are synthetic alternatives, like polyester velvet and that’s exactly the velvet we’re dealing with here when it comes to the exterior layer. The warm velvet cover that it came packaged in was definitely a nice touch. In terms of the consumers experience with the item, the quality of the texture initially leaves us with a very positive first impression.

Despite my initial impression however, there was one thing curios about it: it’s size. It’s smaller than the first weighted blanket I’ve tried. Much smaller. On Blanquil’s website, the blanket comes in different variations when it comes to color, fabric type, texture and weight but it all comes in the same dimensions.

blanquil weighted blanket duvet loops

If you’re looking for a weighted blanket for someone who is petite, either short or light in weight, or a teenager, this might be the best buy. It could also be a great item for those who have experience with weighted blankets but prefer a smaller one, either because they are one or both of the types of individuals I described above. Then there is another possibility: some prefer to only cover a certain part of their body with a weighted blanket.

For example, I don’t like my entire body being covered but that’s a personal preference. You might feel differently. Due to being prone to anxiety, I already have a feeling of heaviness that I carry in my chest on the day to day. That being the case, I like having blankets of this type sit below my waist. Can it reduce anxiety? Sure. But how it does so can also be a different experience for everyone.

Who else is this blanket good for? An average-sized individual (with regular weight or not too far from it) that sleeps with a partner. When I did sleep with a partner, my previous weighted blanket took up too much space. One with these measurements could have been the better alternative.

blanquil logo

The shifting glass pellets that create the blanket’s weight have been getting a bad wrap. From what I’ve observed in the marketplace, most weighted blankets are designed with the same stitching pattern in terms of how large the separate compartments are next to one another. While it’s possible that something more well distributed could be created, one also has to consider at what cost? There is some potential in the marketplace to still take over the weighted blanket space but it’d have to address most of the major concerns. At the price that will require (a more intricate stitching pattern and/or a different material that provides the weight needed), it might as well be marketed as solely a luxury item. This weighted blanket from Blanquil is similar to other weighted blankets, in that all weighted blankets are known for this: they’re known for their weight, as that’s what they’re designed to do, carry weight, and they’re known for their shifting pellets. These pellets are small, round and subtle and of course they will shift with you, they’re supposed to conform to your body’s space to provide that “snug” feeling. They’re not made of metal or tin. The shifting of the pellets is not loud or as exaggerated as some reviewers claim.

There is one thing that rubbed me wrong however about this product and that’s the way it arrived. There was a piece of paper attached to the package with the word “DROPSHIP,” and I felt that made the item simply unappealing because it revealed to me that it’s not entirely original. I don’t know HOW a mistake like this can go unnoticed and I think better quality control really needs to be in place.

My Blanquil Weighted Blanket Recommendation

As a result of all of my digging, I was able to isolate the biggest complaint and that was that Blanquil doesn’t cover return shipping due to the weight of the product. This means that many people find themselves dishing out approx $50 to return the item but of course even that number varies based on where they live and where it’s being shipped back to.

First of all, it’s ridiculous to state that individuals can get a “full refund,” then expect those customers to happily pay exorbitant amounts of money to return ship your item. Of course they’re going to be pissed about it. Whether the consumer realizes the return policy before or after purchasing your product is irrelevant. That return won’t exactly fulfil the typical standards of what the majority knows as  a “full refund.” When an individual has to pay extra to get that item back to you, that’s not a full refund. That extra money spent must then be negated from whatever you refund them. So to see things put in that manner, feels a little deceptive.

In terms of how this works for the company, it may be better to simply offer a non refundable item. That removes that problem from the equation entirely, the company maintains absolute transparency (“Hey, look. This is just the best we can do.”) and this way, every consumer is aware of what’s involved. It’s at least much more honest.

But there is still one more option. This is the way I’d do it:

  • Offer what’s called a “partial return”
  • Provide an already-paid-for shipping label

(Everyone appreciates pre-paid labels, they’re comforting. Even if we’re not getting ALL of our money back, we appreciate that a company strives to make the process less painful for us.)

  • Since the cost of most of the items listed on the website aren’t vast in difference, calculate the average cost of shipping per item and deduct this number from the total.
  • Bam!

I suggest that they do that or something similar because if the biggest complaint people have is your return policy, it’s something that needs to be addressed if you want people’s perception of your brand to change and be elevated.

By the way, if the most common complaint is your return policy, you should also consider that a compliment to the actual items you sell.

Oddly enough, you can also purchase the item through Amazon, where Prime members get free shipping and also free returns with this item, although that may vary depending on your location so be sure to double check.

Regardless of my criticism (and I do genuinely hope some of it is taken constructively), I do recommend this item. It’s a well-made high quality item.

The Blanquil Cooling Blanket

The BlanQuil cooling blanket is an updated version of the original BlanQuil weighted blanket. While the original blanket provided users with a calming and therapeutic sleeping experience, the new cooling blanket takes things a step further by incorporating innovative technology that regulates body temperature and provides a cool and comfortable sleeping environment.

One of the main differences between the two blankets is the materials used to make them. The original BlanQuil weighted blanket is made with a soft and cozy microfiber fabric, while the cooling blanket is made with a cooling fabric that wicks away moisture and promotes airflow.

Additionally, the cooling blanket contains high-density micro-bead technology that provides extra cooling properties, absorbing and releasing body heat to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. In contrast, the original weighted blanket is filled with glass beads that provide a calming, therapeutic effect by applying gentle pressure to the body.

Another difference between the two blankets is their cleaning and maintenance. The original weighted blanket is machine washable but needs to be air-dried to maintain its quality, while the cooling blanket can be both machine washed and dried.

In summary, while both the original BlanQuil weighted blanket and the new BlanQuil cooling blanket offer unique benefits, the cooling blanket takes things a step further by incorporating innovative technology that promotes airflow and regulates body temperature. So, if you’re looking for a comfortable and refreshing sleeping experience, the cooling blanket may be the better option for you.

Dozeology Weighted Blanket Review

dozeology review

Overview of the 7lb Dozeology Weighted Blanket for Kids (or Small Adults!)

Dozeology has joined the trend of Weighted Blankets and for good reason. Weighted Blankets are known for their ability to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and deepen sleep by essentially helping the mind and body relax. This is possible through something called deep pressure touch stimulation. This isn’t a gimmick either. Weighted blankets affect hormones in your body that produce these feelings of relaxation and it could be exactly what you need to improve the quality of your sleep. As you use the blanket regularly, you’ll find that you also have improved mood, focus and concentration. Is there a specific hormone you should know that about? Yes, it’s called Oxytocin. Some have referred to it as “the love hormone,” but it’s not entirely correct. “Bonding hormone” is a bit more accurate. Oxytocin is released when you make love or even when you hug, which is why it’s been given these names. Because weighted blankets can mimic the feeling of a hug, our bodies respond similarly.

My Findings and Recommendation of the 7lb Dozeology Weighted Blanket for Kids

I’ve tried and reviewed plenty of weighted blankets and Dozeology’s is my favorite. I love that they offer a weight that no one else does. A 7lb weighted blanket is uncommon and nice for those who aren’t sure if the concept suits them. It’s great for kids, a teen or an individual in case your partner doesn’t care for the additional bedding. It’s small enough to move around easily and Dozeology’s weighted blanket filling is awesome. It’s finer so when you move it isn’t noisy, the movement is subtle. Weighted blankets have evolved. What is it that drives me even more crazy (in a really good way)? Not only are there duvet loops in the corners but also in the center parts, meaning 8 duvet loops total. Wow, they’ve spoiled us. If you own duvet covers, you know the pain of blankets shifting and having enough duvet loops and duvet ties makes all the difference.

Overview of the Aricove Weighted Blanket

The Aircove weighted blanket is a well designed blanket that is great for relieving anxiety and a great solution for hot sleepers that want the weight of a heavy duvet without trapping all the heat. While there are now endless options for weighted blankets, it’s important to consider construction and durability as these blankets by nature are heavy and need to hold up to washing and frequent use. Below are my findings on the Aricove weighted blanket.

Aricove Box

The Aricove weighted blanket will come shipped in a box like this. Well braned and neatly packed.

Aricove Weighted Blanket Review

The Aricove weighte blanket comes with a canvas bag with a zipper and handles. This makes it easy to store it and travel with it. Weighted blankets are not easy to fold and look messy if you don’t folt them just right. It’s so much easier to just put this in the bag and zip it closed. It keeps the blanket clean and neat. You also get care instructions and warranty information.

Weighted Blanket inside

Weighted blankets are bascially a commodity these days and you can find them just about anywhere including walmart and target. The main difference from just any weighted blanket and a quality weighted blanket is in the details. With aricove, you get great packaging and quality material inside as well. The fabric is soft and there is quality stitching throughout so you don’t have to worry about frayed seams or filling coming loose.

Whats is the Aricove Weighted Blanket Made of?

How to Wash the Aricove Weighted Blanket

Machine wash warm at 90F – 110F on a delicate cycle. Dry flat or tumble dry on low heat only.

Use only mild, biodegradable laundry detergent that has no acid or alkali content.

Wash it separately from any other clothing to prevent snagging and damage.

Consider getting a matching duvet cover if you prefer not to wash your weighted blanket.

The Aricove Weighted Kids Blanket

Aricove also makes a weighted blanket for kids. It has the same construction and materials as the original blanketed but is smaller and weighs less so that it is appropriately sized for children’s bodies. Children with any sensory sensitivity would greatly benefit from a weighted blanket.

My Aricove Weighted Blanket Recommendation and Final Thoughts

At first glance there’s really nothing revolutionary about this weighted blanket. But after using it compared to other weighted blankets, Aricove really gets the details right. The boxed stitching is small enough where the beads won’t shift all that much to give you a much more consistent feel across the blanket.

The bamboo fabric has a soft silky feel and is great for keeping you cool and absorbing moisture so you won’t wake up sweaty.

weighted blanket on bed

This blanket can be used with a cover. There are 8 loops stitched into the blanket to attach a cover. I would recommend using one if you don’t plan to wash the blanket that often. I prefer not to use a cover since they can be cumbersome to attach and remove everytime you want to wash it. Instead, I prefer to just wash the whole blanket as most washers these days can handle it.

Aricove Price Trial and Warranty

If you purchase the Aricvoe and don’t like it for whatever reason, you have 30 days to return it for a refund. You do need to pay return shipping though which could be a little expensive due to the weight.

Aricove also has a 3 year warranty on their blanket that warrants against any defects or workmanship. Usually it is 1 year.

A 48″x72″ , 10 lb. weighted blanket retails for $169.95. That’s a really good price compared to others I have seen and especially  good given it is made with bamboo and premium stitching.

Yaasa Luxe Weighted Blanket Review : Finally, A Good Looking Weighted Blanket

Yaasa Weighted Blanket

It’s about time someone came up with a weighted blanket that didn’t scream, weighted blanket. Yaasa is a company known for curating stylish items for your home and office and their new Luxe Weighted Blanket is a great accent for any part of your house. For this review, I received a 15 lb blanket. It retails for a little over $300 and comes with a 3o night trial which means you get to use it for about a month and if you aren’t happy with it, you can return it for a full refund. I have reviewed dozens of weighted blankets and the vast majority have the same look and feel so it was refreshing to be able to try something new and innovative from Yaasa.

We are using only 100% certified organic cotton to create your Luxe Weighted Blanket.

15 lbs – approximately 80″ x 60″

10 lbs – approximately 75″ x 50

My Yaasa Luxe Weighted Blanket Findings and Recommendation

Upon opening the packaging the first thing I noticed is that the blanket is relatively thin. This makes it easier to store and it doesn’t make it stand out like other weighted blankets I have used. This is an organic cotton blanket so it really doesn’t look all that different from any other blanket except when you pick it up and notice how heavy it is.

Yaasa Weighted Blanket

The next thing I noticed is that it is packaged in a bow. A nice touch that also serves as a prewrapped gift. I think weighted blankets make nice gifts because in a way you are gifting someone a hug. Something to consider if you are looking for a gift for someone who is grieving or going through a difficult time.

Yaasa Blanket Wrapped

The blanket is made in China and designed in California. Yaasa is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California.

yaasa design

The blanket has a tight weave but it is heavy enough where it will conform to your body and really hug you. I was concerned that it would retain too much heat because of this but that wasn’t the case. I was able to take a 2-hour nap with it and didn’t feel the urge to take it off because I was too hot.

Yaasa Weave

Overall I think this is an excellent choice for someone that is looking for a more stylish weighted blanket that will blend in better with the surrounding decor. Most weighted blankets use glass beads for the weight but it makes them harder to clean and fold. The Yaasa Luxe blanket can be machine washed just like any other fabric and there’s no need to take off a cover and re-attach. If you’re looking for a unique gift or a weighted blanket that looks as nice as it feels, this is a great choice.

Luna Weighted Blanket Review

Luna Weighted Blanket Review

The Luna Weighted Blanket is one of the best values for your money. Luna also has the most variety of sizes of weighted blankets to choose from. They offer everything from a kid’s size to one that will fit a king-size bed. There are plenty of colors and patterns to choose from as well as different fabrics depending on if you want a cozy or cool feel. For this review, I received a queen size weighted blanket. Everything from the sewing to the look and feel was great.

Ordering Your Luna Weighted Blanket

You can order your blanket directly from the Luna website or through Amazon. Luna is also available for purchase in Canada through their website.  It really doesn’t matter which site you use since they both offer a 30-day refund window and you are responsible for returns no matter which site you buy it through. Since I have Amazon Prime, it makes sense for me to buy through Amazon although you may find more fabric options through their website. You should also check the price on Amazon and Luna, when I last checked, the price on the Luna website was considerably less.

Your Luna blanket will arrive in a box and inside the box you will find a zippered case that you can use to store the blanket when not in use. Just keep in mind that you need to fold it tight for it to fit back in.

luna packaging

It also comes with instructions that include washing instructions. Both the inner later and outer shell are washable. I would advise washing the outer shell more frequently than the inner part since it is so heavy.

Luna Instructions

Here’s a picture of the blanket out of the packaging. This is a heavy blanket but it doesn’t have that much volume and so will look fairly normal on your bed if you are going to use it every night.

Luna out of the box

Construction of the Luna Weighted Blanket

This blanket is also Oeko-Tex certified meaning it incorporated natural, sustainable materials. This is really the same as a cotton blanket except that there are glass beads inside that create the weight.

Incorporating glass beads is the most common construction for weighted blankets and the best way to evenly distribute weight and allowing the blanket to conform to your body. There are other weighted blankets like Bearaby that use large heavy knit cables which looks great and is breathable but it doesn’t conform as well as the Luna.

luna weighted blanket label

This blanket looks great and I was impressed with the overall feel. It feels like a nice set of sheets.

draped luna weighted blanket

Here you can see me using the blanket. Normally I use a weighted blanket while meditating or lounging on the couch. It can be tempting to purchase a large weighted blanket but you need to keep in mind what you will be using it for. If you will be sleeping with it every night in bed, then a larger blanket makes sense. Although most people use them as a blanket in their living room, in which case a smaller size is more practical. Especially if you will be moving it from room to room or you need to fold it after each use.

The price varies depending on what fabric and size you choose. Their original cotton weighted blanket similar to the one I received starts at $39.99 in a kid’s size, if you buy directly through their website. A king-size can go over $130 depending on the weight which makes it an incredible value.

My Luna Weighted Blanket Recommendation

There are dozens of weighted blanket brands to choose from. They have exploded in popularity because they provide immediate relief for anxiety and help you stay relaxed. However, there is no magic to how they work, they are simply heavy blankets. What I look for is quality construction, feel, look and price. Luna checks all these boxes. They have received well over 6,000 positive reviews on Amazon and so it’s not just me touting the brand.

Yaasa Weighted Blanket: Knitted Comfort

Yaasa Weighted Blanket

Yaasa is a furniture company that makes mattresses, adjustable beds, desks, and bedding. They are based out of Santa Barbara, California and are known for producing products that are both innovative and stylish. The recent addition of their weighted blanket is no exception. Most weighted blankets on the market are made with glass beads sewn into the fabric for weight. Yaasa instead knits their weighted blanket making it breathable and stylish so that you will actually want to leave it out.

Why Do You Need a Weighted Blanket?

If you haven’t tried a weighted blanket, you owe it to yourself to experience it. A good weighted blanket feels like a reassuring hug that instantly gives you a feeling of security and calm. It’s a big reason why first responders wrap trauma victims in blankets. But you don’t need to be under duress to get reap the benefits of a weighted blanket.

There are now all kinds of weighted blankets to choose from but Yaasa has a unique design that takes weighted blankets to the next level.

Ordering the Yaasa Weighted Blanket

You can order this blanket directly from the Yaasa website. It currently retails for $249 in the 15 lb. weight and $269 in the 20 lb. weight. For this review, I received the 15 lb. weight in a cream color. As you can see below, the blanket comes wrapped in plastic to keep it clean.

Yaasa Weighted Blanket Packaging

I noticed that there was a bit of a new fabric smell to this blanket but if you air it out for a bit it should be fine. Here’s what it looks like out of the packaging. Unlike a normal weighted blanket, this is knitted with large cables of fabric that give the blanket its weight but also make it very breathable.  This is a great design because it is also stylish.

My Yaasa Weighted Blanket Findings

This blanket has a unique feel. I like that you can stretch it out a bit as it is a loose-knit. Here you can see that I can easily poke my fingers through it.

knitted blanket

In the picture below I am using it on my Sol Tec Lounge meditation chair. I use weighted blankets because it helps me relax and stay grounded.

Yaasa Weighted Blanket

According to the care instructions, the blanket should be dry cleaned only. I suspect this is because they don’t want the yarn coming through in the washing machine. I think this would be problematic with a washing machine with an agitator but I have a newer high-efficiency washer that can handle oversized loads. I thought I would put it in the wash just to see what would happen.

The blanket washed just fine but it took about 3 dry cycles for the blanket to get dry. However, It wasn’t damaged at all. The picture with me in the blanket on the meditation chair is the blanket after it was washed.

My Yaasa Weighted Blanket Recommendation

Weighted blankets are wonderful. My daughter has her own and I now have a couple in my bedroom. I don’t use them every night but sometimes they are just what I need to relax or fall asleep faster. You can certainly find cheaper weighted blankets but I would rather have this blanket out and folded as it looks great and is a wonderful conversation piece.

Bearaby Weighted Blanket Review

Bearaby Weighted Blanket

Bearaby Weighted Blankets: A Rise in Sustainable Sleep Solutions

While Bearaby doesn’t claim a direct historical connection to the invention of weighted blankets, their approach to the product does hold unique characteristics shaped by current trends and innovations. Here’s a breakdown of the brand and its place in the weighted blanket landscape:

Origins:

  • Founded in 2017 by Kathrin Hamm, Bearaby emerged amidst a growing interest in natural and sustainable sleep solutions.
  • Inspired by the calming effect of deep pressure therapy, Hamm aimed to create a weighted blanket that was lightweight, breathable, and free of artificial fillers.

Innovation:

  • Knitted design: Bearaby’s signature feature is the use of organic cotton yarn in a unique, open-knit construction. This design offers breathability and temperature regulation, addressing common complaints about traditional weighted blankets.
  • Sustainable materials: Their commitment to sustainability extends beyond the organic cotton, evident in their use of recycled packaging and carbon-neutral production practices.
  • Minimalist aesthetic: Bearaby blankets depart from the bulky look of traditional weighted blankets, offering a sleeker and more modern design.

Market Impact:

  • Bearaby’s innovative approach resonated with consumers seeking healthier and more eco-friendly sleep solutions.
  • Their success contributed to the wider popularity of weighted blankets and inspired other brands to explore alternative materials and designs.

Overall:

  • Bearaby isn’t directly tied to the historical roots of weighted blankets, but they’ve carved their niche within the market by emphasizing sustainability, breathability, and modern design.
  • Their story reflects the evolving consumer demand for products that prioritize both comfort and environmental responsibility.

The Bearaby weighted blanket is a relatively new product in the market, having been first introduced in 2018. However, the concept of a weighted blanket has been around for many years, with evidence of their use in various forms throughout history.

Weighted blankets are believed to have originated from the practice of swaddling infants, which has been used for centuries to soothe and calm babies. The idea of a weighted blanket for adults, however, was first introduced in the late 1990s by an occupational therapist named Karen Moore.

Moore developed a prototype of a weighted blanket for use with children with sensory processing disorders, who often have difficulty with sleep and emotional regulation. The weighted blanket provided a calming effect that helped these children sleep better and feel more relaxed.

Over time, the benefits of weighted blankets became more widely recognized, and they began to gain popularity in the mainstream market. The Bearaby weighted blanket is one of the newer products to enter this market, and it stands out from other weighted blankets due to its unique design and use of sustainable materials.

The Bearaby blanket is made from a soft, chunky knit fabric that is designed to be breathable and comfortable. The blanket is filled with glass beads that provide the weight, and it comes in a range of sizes and colors to suit different preferences.

In addition to its functional benefits, the Bearaby blanket has also gained attention for its eco-friendly materials and manufacturing process. The company uses organic cotton and other sustainable materials, and it produces its blankets using a zero-waste knitting process that minimizes environmental impact.

Overall, the Bearaby weighted blanket is a modern take on a concept that has been around for centuries. Its unique design and use of sustainable materials make it a popular choice for those who are looking for a high-quality, effective, and eco-friendly way to improve their sleep and reduce stress.

The Bearaby weighted blanket is a refreshingly unique look and feel in the increasingly crowded weighted blanket space. Many mattress brands are now providing weighted blankets as part of their offerings as demand increases due to more awareness of the benefits they provide. However, Bearaby is the first knitted weighted blanket I have come across and not only does it look different, but it is also more breathable and comfortable.

Overview of the Bearaby Weighted Blanket

Bearaby Throw

For this review, I received a free Bearaby Tree Napper. The Tree Napper is made with Tencel fabric which is a plant-based fabric that is more breathable than cotton. You also have the option to go with the Classic Napper which is made with organic cotton. Between the two, I think think the Classic Napper looks a little better. The colors just seem a bit more vivid and it doesn’t look as wrinkly as the Tree Napper although they honestly both still look great and are some of the few weighted blankets that actually look good as a throw or even decorative piece.

Ordering the Right Bearaby Blanket for Your Needs

Whether or not you but the Tree Napper or the Classic Napper, the price is the same. The price will go up as the weight of the blanket increases. Weighted blankets should be roughly 10% of your body weight. So if you weigh 150 lbs. or less, go with the 15 lb.

Below are the dimensions at each weight.

15 lbs

40″ x 72″

20 lbs

45″ x 72″

25 lbs

48″ x 72″

Don’t make the mistake of ordering a blanket that is too heavy. 25 lbs. may not seem like a lot of weight but you don’t want the blanket to feel burdensome. It should feel like a very subtle hug.

You can order your blanket directly form the Bearaby website. Delivery should take about a week. When you receive it you’ll find it packed in  a reusable cloth bag to protect it from the cardboard.

Bearaby Packaging

As you can see it comes with a nice welcome card and is rolled neatly inside the bag.

Here you can see it outside the packaging. I appreciate that they didn’t have to use any unnecessary plastic.

Bearaby Rolled

My Bearaby Findings

What I like most about the Bearaby is that it feels like I am laying under a giant knit sweater. This blanket is breathable but heavy enough to provide the benefits of a weighted blanket.  It looks stylish and when I’m not using it, the blanket doesn’t look out of place on my couch or bed.

Bearaby 3

The blanket isn’t meant to entirely cover your body like a normal bed blanket, instead, it functions more like a throw.

bearaby 2

Since this is knit you can stretch out the blanket a bit. I wouldn’t advise doing this too much but it illustrates how breathable the blanket is without detracting from the benefits a weighted blanket provides. Most weighted blankets use glass beads that are box stitched into the inner chamber of the blanket.

bearaby stretch

Lastly, this blanket is machine washable. Inevitably it will get dirty over time with use and another benefit is that you can simply throw it in the wash and tumble dry on low. Conventional weighted blankets have an outer shell that can be washed but if you happen to spill and it penetrates into the inner chamber, it can be difficult to clean.

Bearaby Weighted Blanket Reviews

The Bearaby weighted blanket has been featured in various media outlets, including magazines, TV shows, and online publications. Here are a few examples:

  1. The Today Show – The Bearaby blanket was featured on the popular morning TV show in a segment about the benefits of weighted blankets for better sleep.

  2. Oprah Magazine – The blanket was included in a roundup of “favorite things” recommended by Oprah Winfrey in the December 2019 issue of the magazine.

  3. Forbes – The Bearaby blanket was included in a list of top-rated weighted blankets in an article about how to sleep better.

  4. Good Housekeeping – The blanket was featured in a review of the best weighted blankets for 2021.

  5. Elle Decor – The Bearaby blanket was included in a list of “cool weighted blankets” in an article about how to improve your sleep environment.

These are just a few examples of the many media outlets that have featured the Bearaby weighted blanket. Its unique design, eco-friendly materials, and reputation for quality and effectiveness have helped it to stand out in a crowded market and gain a loyal following among those looking for a natural and sustainable way to improve their sleep and overall well-being.

Where Can You Buy the Bearaby Weighted Blanket?

The Bearaby weighted blanket can be purchased directly from the company’s website at www.bearaby.com. The website offers a variety of sizes, colors, and materials to choose from, as well as free shipping and a 30-day trial period to ensure customer satisfaction.

In addition to the company’s website, the Bearaby weighted blanket can also be purchased from several other online retailers, including Amazon, Nordstrom, and Goop. However, it’s always recommended to purchase from the official website to ensure authenticity and receive any promotions or discounts that may be offered.

If you prefer to see and feel the blanket in person before purchasing, some brick-and-mortar retailers may also carry the Bearaby weighted blanket, such as select Nordstrom stores. It’s always a good idea to check with the retailer beforehand to confirm availability.

Bearaby vs. Other Weighted Blankets

When comparing the Bearaby weighted blanket to other weighted blankets on the market, there are several factors to consider, such as design, materials, weight options, and price.

One of the main differences between the Bearaby blanket and other weighted blankets is its unique design. Unlike other weighted blankets that use traditional box stitching to keep the filling in place, the Bearaby blanket is made from a chunky, knitted fabric that is woven from multiple layers of yarn. This design eliminates the need for stitching, creating a more comfortable and breathable blanket that conforms to the body without feeling constrictive or restrictive.

Another key difference is the use of sustainable materials. The Bearaby blanket is made from organic cotton or Tencel lyocell, a plant-based fabric that requires less water and energy to produce than conventional cotton. In addition, the company uses a zero-waste knitting process that minimizes waste and reduces its environmental impact.

The weight options for the Bearaby blanket are limited compared to some other brands, with only three weight options: 15, 20, and 25 pounds. However, the weight is evenly distributed throughout the blanket, thanks to its chunky knit design, which provides a more comfortable and effective weight distribution.

Finally, the price of the Bearaby blanket is generally higher than other weighted blankets on the market, reflecting the quality of the materials and the unique design. However, the company offers free shipping, a 30-day trial period, and a 1-year limited warranty, which may provide peace of mind for those considering the investment.

Overall, the Bearaby weighted blanket stands out from other brands for its unique design, sustainable materials, and comfortable weight distribution. However, individuals should consider their own preferences and needs when choosing a weighted blanket, including weight options, materials, and price, to find the best option for their individual needs.

Can You Sleep on a Weighted Blanket Every Night?

Many people use a weighted blanket every night as a part of their sleep routine and find it helpful for improving sleep quality and reducing anxiety and stress. However, whether or not it is safe and appropriate for an individual to use a weighted blanket every night depends on several factors, including their health, weight, and personal preferences.

Weighted blankets are generally considered safe for most people to use, but there are some individuals who may want to avoid using them. For example, people with respiratory problems or certain medical conditions that affect breathing or circulation may find the weight of the blanket uncomfortable or problematic. Additionally, children under the age of two should not use a weighted blanket due to the risk of suffocation.

It’s also important to choose the right weight for your body size and weight. The general recommendation is to choose a weighted blanket that is approximately 10% of your body weight. Using a blanket that is too heavy could cause discomfort or interfere with breathing, while using a blanket that is too light may not provide the desired calming effect.

Finally, some people may find that using a weighted blanket every night is too much for their personal preference or sleep needs. It’s always a good idea to experiment with different sleep routines and bedding options to find the best solution for your individual needs.

In conclusion, using a weighted blanket every night can be safe and beneficial for many people, but it’s important to consider your individual health and preferences when deciding whether or not to incorporate one into your sleep routine. If you have any concerns or questions about using a weighted blanket, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional.

My Bearaby Recommendation

Bearaby has quickly become one of my favorite weighted blankets. It actually a nice conversation piece. I get compliments on its looks but people are really impressed that it provides extra functionality. Between the Classic Napper and Tree Napper, I would advise people that tend to sleep hot to go with the Tree Napper but the difference is fairly minimal and you should really go with your preferred color.

While the Bearaby is more expensive than the competition, starting at $249, it also looks and feels better so, in my opinion, is worth the investment.  You get 30 days to see if the Bearaby is right for you. If not you can return it for a full refund. Just make sure not to stain it or wash it.

Layla Weighted Blanket Review

Layla Weighted Blanket Review

[Tagline]

The other day the FedEx guy knocked on my door and held out a large box addressed to me, from Layla. He warned me it was heavy, but for some reason I didn’t believe him—boy was I wrong. After dragging the large box into my house, I examined it for clues, eventually discovering I had just received in a 20lb weighted blanket from Layla. I was so excited to try it out, I could barely wait until that evening to get started.

I’ve heard so many great things about weighted blankets, and to someone who used to sleep with a comforter all year round (except in Portland, Oregon, where some heathens decided AC was unnecessary) it seemed like a Comforter 2.0. I cut open the excessive tape to find a nice Layla zipper bag with handles—great for carrying around 20 pound blankets.

IMG 3163 scaled

I extracted the contents (and almost pulled a back muscle): an airtight plastic bag with the blanket vacuum sealed inside. I cut open the seal and air came rushing into the package; I was ready.

IMG 3165 scaled

The weighted blanket has two sides: quilted cotton on the bottom and quilted polyester fuzz on the top. The top layer is super soft, like a high quality blanket I once had years ago, but the bottom layer feels more like a pair of pants—coziness was not its #1 purpose.

IMG 3169 scaled

The blanket is weighted with a new material comprised of 95% glass beads and 5% polyester fiber, which made it weigh a metric ton.

IMG 3184

The sheet fell short at 60” x 80”—just smaller than my queen-size bed—but I guess it doesn’t really need to spread across the whole bed. The size discrepancy may look kind of unsightly laid out on top of the bed, but functionally a smaller blanket is easier for someone to wrap themselves up in. I originally thought it was supposed to serve as a bed layer (like a regular blanket), but now I see that it’s more of a personal accessory. The tag told me to wash it in cold water with a low heat dryer cycle, but I was worried so I put both machines on gentle. When the blanket came out I was ready to give it its first official test drive.

IMG 3175 scaled

Before hitting the hay, I contemplated using my duvet in conjunction with the weighted blanket, worried that the Layla blanket wouldn’t be warm enough in my 57F room. Turns out the blanket was perfect without the duvet, in fact it overrode the Eli & Elm Whitney (cooling) sheets a bit, but just enough to where I was warm and not hot. I stretched the warm, fuzzy, heavy blanket across my bed (and 5 pillows) and hopped under the covers. At first, I couldn’t sleep. It felt like the lead apron they make you wear when you get x-rays—it pinned me to my mattress and I felt trapped (this blanket is completely lead-free). But an hour or so later, I finally opened my mind and relaxed, drifting off to sleep. After a couple days of getting used to it, the feeling of being trapped turned into a feeling of security, and the weighted blanket soon fulfilled a need I didn’t even know I had.

IMG 3167 scaled

Sleeping with the Layla weighted blanket is bit like sleeping next to someone, but without the overheating. With a weighted blanket you don’t have to take turns as the little spoon (the best spoon), because the blanket is just one giant spoon and you are one warm burrito. Layla explains on their website that this feeling of security is called “Deep Touch Pressure” (DTP), which like a hug, causes your brain to release serotonin. Weighted blankets are great for people with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, which gives me blanket bingo, so you know I mean it when I say it works. Goodness knows I could use a little extra serotonin.

IMG 3186 scaled

The only negative thing I can think of when it comes to this blanket is that I can’t bring it everywhere. After trying out the blanket for a couple weeks, I visited my cousin in New York and it a bit challenging to stay asleep without the security of 20 pounds of glass beads weighing down on me. I did however wake up one morning with her roommate’s miniature pitbull mix laying on top of me, but it’s just not the same.

IMG 3164 scaled

The weighted blanket may cost $129 – $179 (depending on size), but this is one of those sleep accessories that is worth every dang penny. It’s durable and well made, which promises years of comfy, calm sleep. I raved about Layla’s bamboo sheets and I’m going to rave about this weighted blanket—it’s all fantastic. Use them together or use them separate, Layla is a doing a fantastic job adding onto their signature mattress products.

CMFRT Cozy Weighted Blanket

Weighted Blankets

03/12/2024 09:09 am GMT

I received a free CMFRT weighted blanket for review. Weighted blankets are a great way to calm your nerves and relax after a long day. Weighted blankets have been used by first responders to help relax victims for car accidents, house fires, etc. More recently weighted blankets have also been used by occupational therapists to calm children with sensory sensitivities.

Weighted blankets are now becoming mainstream and people are now learning that these blankets can benefit people who are just feeling a little anxious or may want to get better sleep.

Recent studies have pointed out that they improve sleep quality and the accelerate the onset of sleep. Of course, this could also be accomplished with a heavy down blanket but chances are you are going to overheat quickly which will wake you up. Down blankets just aren’t a sensible solution in warmer months either.

The CMFRT weighted blanket is made with tiny pellets which add the weight. They are stitched into square boxes throughout the blanket so that the weight is distributed evenly. Because these little pellets arent insulators, the blanket is breathable and stays cool keeping your comfortable while you sleep or just use it throughout the day.

Highlights of the CMFRT blanket

Here are some of the main highlights of this blanket as listed on their Amazon product page:

  • “IT’S LIKE A WARM HUG AND A CUP OF COFFEE!” ✓ Scientifically studied to improve restful sleep quality, reduce stress & anxiety and increase attention span & productivity
  • THE BEST EVENLY DISTRIBUTED WEIGHT GUARANTEED ✓ Our advanced uniform stitching method and the smallest pockets in the industry will not annoyingly slide around or need constant adjustment
  • ENGINEERED WITH THE HIGHEST QUALITY FABRICS ✓ A warm minky microfiber and a 100% Clima-cool cotton side allow for comfortable use during winter or summer
  • SIZE MATTERS ✓ Our adult-sized blankets perfectly lay on queen-sized beds and our teen and children blankets generously cover the entire body – Choose 10% of your body weight + or – depending on individual preference – 60″ x 80″ (22 lb weight includes inner weighted blanket and outer duvet cover)
  • EASY TO WASH ✓ The Cozy weighted blanket comes with an outer duvet cover that is easily removable for machine washing. Never worry about your washer getting damaged or tumbling over from a heavy weighted blanket again! – For more info please visit us at www.cmfrt.us

Here’s a video overview of the blanket.

You can purchase this blanket in multiple weights, I prefer something around 20-22lbs even though I could go higher given my weight. A queen size 22 lb. blanket currently retails for $179.99.  The weight ranges are from 7-25 lbs.

My CMFRT Weighted Blanket Findings

I have tried weighted blankets before. The other weighted blanket I tried had a cotton cover and was not machine washable. I really like this weighted blanket because it has minky fabric and the cover can be removed an washed. It looks and feels great as are a couple different colors to choose from.

This blanket lives mostly in our daughter’s room as she has taken a liking to it although my wife and I borrow it to take naps during the day.

I truly believe every house needs a weighted blanket. Just being under the weight of one of these blankets feels like a nice hug which we can all use at times.
