Yawnder Reviews · Original Tree Napper hands-on review
Our original hands-on experience
These observations describe the Tree Napper Yawnder received; the current Cotton Napper comparison is based on Bearaby's published product details.
What made Bearaby different
The first thing that stood out was the construction. Instead of hiding glass beads or pellets inside stitched pockets, Bearaby created the weight from very thick knitted yarn itself. That open-knit approach made the blanket look more like an oversized sweater or decorative throw than a conventional weighted blanket.
The blanket we received
Yawnder originally received a Bearaby Tree Napper for review. The Tree Napper used a plant-derived Tencel-style yarn, while the Cotton Napper used organic cotton. Both shared the same chunky-knit concept and open spaces between the loops.

Breathability
The open knit was the biggest practical difference from filled weighted blankets. Air could move directly through the loops, so the blanket felt less sealed-in and bulky. That did not make it weightless or universally cool, but it was noticeably more breathable than many bead-filled designs we had tried.
Size and coverage
Bearaby weighted blankets are intended primarily for one person rather than as an oversized comforter. The dimensions increased somewhat with blanket weight, but even the larger versions were designed more as personal throws than full-bed blankets. That is worth knowing before ordering.
Packaging and finish
The blanket arrived rolled inside a reusable fabric bag rather than buried in disposable plastic. The knit, colors and presentation also made it one of the few weighted blankets from that era that looked intentional when left on a couch or bed.
Our takeaway
The appeal was not simply the amount of weight. Bearaby combined weight, airflow and appearance in a way most traditional weighted blankets did not. The tradeoff is that the open knit and smaller personal-blanket dimensions feel very different from a full-size duvet.
Cotton Napper vs. Tree Napper
| Model | Materials | Listed weights | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
Tree Napper | 52% TENCEL lyocell / 48% organic cotton, as listed | 10, 15, 20 or 25 lb | Open knit; Yawnder’s original hands-on sample was a Tree Napper. |
Cotton Napper | 100% organic cotton, as listed | 10, 15, 20 or 25 lb | Open knit; product comparison based on manufacturer details. |
The weight is in the knitted material rather than loose beads. Check each weight’s dimensions, washing requirements and current price before buying; these are personal blankets, not necessarily full-bed coverage.
Direct returns and fees
Bearaby’s U.S. return policy lists a 30-day window for eligible returns when the item has not been washed and its original branded label is attached. Orders shipped outside the contiguous U.S. are not eligible under that policy. Bearaby lists a processing fee of $14.99 for a 10 lb Napper and $19.99 for a 15, 20 or 25 lb Napper, per returned item. Check current terms and seller-specific rules before buying.
Bearaby now offers multiple materials and sizes. Check the current weight, dimensions and care instructions for the exact Napper you are considering rather than relying on legacy options.

Frequently asked questions
Which weight should I choose?
Bearaby offers the Cotton Napper in 10-, 15-, 20- and 25-pound options and suggests roughly 10% of body weight as a starting point. Comfort and ability to remove the blanket independently matter; choose a weight you can move easily.
Can the Cotton Napper be washed?
Bearaby says it is machine washable, but check the care label and your machine’s capacity, especially for heavier versions. Follow the brand’s washing instructions.
Can an infant use a weighted blanket?
No. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against weighted blankets on or near babies.
Does a weighted blanket treat insomnia or anxiety?
It may feel comforting to some people, but it is not an established substitute for evaluation or treatment of a sleep or mental health condition.
