Helix recently launched a new line of mattresses called the Helix Elite. The Elite mattresses are designed to provide the ultimate in comfort and support, with a focus on pressure relief and temperature regulation.

The Elite mattresses are made with a combination of premium materials, including:

  • Helix Dynamic Response Technology: This proprietary technology provides responsive support and pressure relief, adapting to your body as you move.
  • Helix Cooling Technology: This technology helps to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
  • Helix Quilted Cover: This soft and luxurious cover adds an extra layer of comfort to your mattress.

The Elite mattresses come in six different models:

  • Sunset Elite: Softest model, ideal for side sleepers
  • Dusk Elite: Soft model, ideal for side and back sleepers
  • Midnight Elite: Medium model, ideal for all sleepers
  • Twilight Elite: Firm model, ideal for back and stomach sleepers
  • Dawn Elite: Extra firm model, ideal for stomach sleepers
  • Kids Elite: Medium model, ideal for kids of all ages

The Elite mattresses are also available in two different heights: 12 inches and 14 inches. This allows you to choose the height that is most comfortable for you and your bed frame.

The Helix Elite mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. This means that you can try out the mattress risk-free for 100 nights, and if you are not happy with it, you can return it for a full refund.

If you are looking for a new mattress that will provide you with the ultimate in comfort and support, the Helix Elite mattresses are a great option to consider.

The Helix Elite mattresses offer a number of benefits over the Helix Luxe mattresses, including:

  • More premium materials: The Elite mattresses are made with a number of premium materials, such as Helix Dynamic Response Technology and Helix Cooling Technology, that are not found in the Luxe mattresses. These materials provide additional comfort, support, and temperature regulation.
  • More firmness options: The Elite mattresses come in six different firmness options, compared to four firmness options for the Luxe mattresses. This gives you more flexibility to choose the mattress that is right for your sleeping position and preferences.
  • Taller height options: The Elite mattresses come in two different heights: 12 inches and 14 inches. The Luxe mattresses are only available in a 13.5-inch height. This gives you more flexibility to choose the mattress that is right for your bed frame and personal preferences.
  • Longer warranty: The Elite mattresses come with a 15-year warranty, compared to a 10-year warranty for the Luxe mattresses. This gives you more peace of mind knowing that your mattress is protected for a longer period of time.

Overall, the Helix Elite mattresses offer a number of benefits over the Helix Luxe mattresses, including more premium materials, more firmness options, taller height options, and a longer warranty. If you are looking for the best possible mattress that Helix has to offer, the Elite mattresses are the way to go.

However, it is important to note that the Elite mattresses are also more expensive than the Luxe mattresses. If you are on a budget, the Luxe mattresses may be a better option for you.

The Helix Elite mattresses compare favorably to similarly priced mattresses from other brands. For example, the Helix Elite Sunset mattress is comparable in price to the Purple Hybrid mattress and the Saatva Classic mattress. Both of these mattresses are highly rated by consumers and reviewers alike.

The Helix Elite mattresses offer a number of advantages over other similarly priced mattresses, including:

  • More premium materials: The Elite mattresses are made with a number of premium materials, such as Helix Dynamic Response Technology and Helix Cooling Technology, that are not found in many other similarly priced mattresses. These materials provide additional comfort, support, and temperature regulation.
  • More firmness options: The Elite mattresses come in six different firmness options, compared to four or five firmness options for many other similarly priced mattresses. This gives you more flexibility to choose the mattress that is right for your sleeping position and preferences.
  • Taller height options: The Elite mattresses come in two different heights: 12 inches and 14 inches. Many other similarly priced mattresses are only available in a 13-inch height. This gives you more flexibility to choose the mattress that is right for your bed frame and personal preferences.
  • Longer warranty: The Elite mattresses come with a 15-year warranty, compared to a 10-year warranty for many other similarly priced mattresses. This gives you more peace of mind knowing that your mattress is protected for a longer period of time.

Overall, the Helix Elite mattresses offer a number of advantages over other similarly priced mattresses, including more premium materials, more firmness options, taller height options, and a longer warranty. If you are looking for a high-quality mattress that offers excellent comfort, support, and temperature regulation, the Helix Elite mattresses are a great option to consider.

Here is a table comparing the Helix Elite Sunset mattress to two other similarly priced mattresses:

MattressPriceFirmness optionsHeight optionsWarranty
Helix Elite Sunset$1,9996215 years
Purple Hybrid$1,9994110 years
Saatva Classic$1,9993115 years

As you can see, the Helix Elite Sunset mattress offers more firmness options and a longer warranty than the Purple Hybrid mattress and the Saatva Classic mattress. It also has the same height options as the Saatva Classic mattress and one more height option than the Purple Hybrid mattress.

Ultimately, the best way to decide which mattress is right for you is to try them out for yourself. Helix offers a 100-night sleep trial on all of their mattresses, so you can return your mattress for a full refund if you are not happy with it.

I received a free Helix mattress for review. The Helix mattress is a completely new take on the mattress in a box concept.

Helix Mattress is a relatively new brand of mattresses that has quickly become one of the most popular on the market. There are several reasons for this success, including:

  • Personalized mattress recommendations: Helix offers a unique sleep quiz that asks users about their weight, height, sleeping position, and other factors to recommend the perfect mattress for them. This is in contrast to most other mattress brands, which offer a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • High-quality materials: Helix mattresses are made with a variety of high-quality materials, including memory foam, latex, and coils. These materials combine to provide a comfortable and supportive sleep surface.
  • Affordable prices: Helix mattresses are priced competitively with other high-quality mattress brands. In fact, Helix often offers discounts and promotions, making their mattresses even more affordable.
  • Excellent customer service: Helix offers excellent customer service before, during, and after the sale. This includes a 100-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty.

Overall, Helix Mattress is a great option for anyone looking for a comfortable, supportive, and affordable mattress. The brand’s unique sleep quiz and high-quality materials make it a great choice for a variety of sleepers.

Overview of the Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers a range of different mattress models, each designed to cater to specific sleeping needs and preferences. Here are the current Helix mattress models:

  1. Helix Sunset: This is a soft, plush mattress that is ideal for side sleepers. It is made with a breathable cover, a layer of memory foam, and a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam for support.

  2. Helix Moonlight: This mattress is designed for back and stomach sleepers who prefer a firmer feel. It features a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, a layer of memory foam, and a base layer of high-density support foam.

  3. Helix Midnight: This is the most popular Helix mattress, designed for all types of sleepers. It is a medium-firm mattress that combines a layer of memory foam with Helix Dynamic Foam for support.

  4. Helix Dusk: This mattress is slightly firmer than the Helix Midnight and is designed for people who need extra support. It features a layer of memory foam, a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, and a base layer of high-density support foam.

  5. Helix Twilight: This is a soft mattress that is designed to relieve pressure points and provide support. It features a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, a layer of memory foam, and a base layer of high-density support foam.

  6. Helix Dawn: This is the firmest Helix mattress, designed for people who need extra support. It features a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, a layer of high-grade polyfoam, and a base layer of high-density support foam.

In addition to these six models, Helix Sleep also offers the Helix Plus, a mattress designed specifically for people who weigh over 250 pounds. It features extra support and durability to accommodate heavier sleepers.

Helix also has a kids mattress that is two-sided to adapt to their bodies as they grow.

Here’s a video of me unboxing the new 2017 version of the Helix Mattress. Since then this brand has evolved from a customizable mattress to several different models depending on your needs.

Ordering the Helix Mattress

Ordering a Helix mattress is a fun and engaged process. You actually fill out a questionnaire before you place your order. Helix teamed up with some PhD researchers who are experts in biomechanics to develop ideal mattress specifications for particular body types and sleep preferences that are reflected in the questionnaire. Here’s a snapshot of the beginning of the questionnaire:

Further into the questionnaire each person will answer questions about sleeping hot, firmness preferences, etc.  Finally, if the mattress is for 2 people, you will have the option of a transition between each mattress where the foam more gradually transitions to the other preference. Or, a split which means each side of the mattress is pushed together. I chose the transition and found that with the initial opening there was a slight dip where the mattress transitioned but that wet away after a few days.

Helix now offers financing so you can enjoy your mattress now and pay it off over time through Affirm. You can pay off the mattress in 3, 6 or 12 payments.

Construction of the Helix Mattress

The Helix Sleep system is made of 3 different layers. Foam, and micro coils which are small springs.

Foam:

2″ Helix Dynamic Foam
2″ High-Grade Polyfoam (comfort layers)
4″ High-Grade Polyfoam (base layers)

Coils:

  • 2.4″ Pocketed Microcoils
  • ILD: 18

These 3 ingredients are then customized based on your inputs in the initial questionnaire

Below is a picture I took when I visited the Helix headquarters in New York City that shows the 3 layers:

My Helix Mattress Recommendation

The Helix mattress has a great range of firmness and even on the firm setting will provide good pressure relief. The pocket coils provide a subtle pushback that will give you the support you need.

Here’s a picture of the inside of the Helix. Below is the soft side of the helix.

Helix Soft

Below is the firm side of the helix which is part of the same mattress above.

Helix Firm

The video below shows motion transfer on the soft side of the Helix mattress.

Here’s another video on the other side of the same Helix mattress which is the firm side.

Below is a picture of how much the mattress will sink. As you can see the left side is considerably firmer than the right.

Helix Softness

This mattress does a great job with motion transfer and also temperature regulation. Looking at the photo below you’ll notice that the right side looks a bit different in terms of pattern color. In the survey I asked for my side to be cooler than my wife’s side. You can see that there is some sort of cooling gel layer that was added to my side to accommodate this need.

How Long Does A Helix Mattress Last?

A Helix mattress will last 7-8 years. You may get an extra year or two if you weigh under 150 lbs. Heavier sleepers over 200 lbs. may only get 6-7 years of life out of their Helix mattress.

Is Helix A Good Brand?

Helix is one of the most highly rated mattress brands among mattress reviewers and large publishers. It gets good marks for construction, durability and feel. They have excellent customer service and a legit free trial period with free shipping and free returns.

Do Helix Mattresses Get Softer?

Helix mattresses do not require a break-in period. The mattress actually may firm up a little after a few days but it will not get softer.

My Helix Mattress Recommendation

If you are looking for a mattress to accommodate sleepers with very different sleep preferences, this is the ticket. The owners of Helix Sleep are committed to delivering a personalized sleep experience that is backed by science not sales copy. That alone should be reason enough to give them a try. Their generous trial period will give you time to see if they got it right!

    • I think this mattress was designed with proper spinal support as a high priority so in my experience this mattress is firmer than many of the others I tested. However, in the questionnaire you can list your preference for firmness. Just know that if you select a medium level firmness it will be firmer than other mattresses.

    • There’s a 100 day trial period. From their website: Try our mattress for 100 days and if you don’t love it, we’ll take it back, and refund you in full. We suggest you trial the mattress for at least a month so your body can adjust to a sleep system made specifically for you.”

  1. Wow, this looks awesome! I like how they personalize each mattress to each customer – always wondered why the other online brands only had one option for everyone. Quick question: what if I share the bed with my boyfriend?

    • If you get a king or queen size, they can customize each side for each individual sleeper. It is a really nice concept.

  2. How would you compare your two sides of the mattress? I know you requested one side be cooler than the other but did you also have both sides have different softness and support as well? I talked to Helix and they explained that they will adjust the order of the top layers (latex, microcoils, and polyfoam) depending on how the customer customizes their mattress. They told me for customers that request the coolest mattress they always put the latex layer on the top which I am guessing is the case for your side and your wifes side must have the polyfoam layer on top. Do you find the two sides feel vastly different due to this change?

    • There’s not way that I’m aware of that you can change the firmness settings after purchase. So you would be stuck with that firmness setting.

    • The only showroom right now is in NYC so your best bet is to purchase one and try it out at home for 3 months then return if you don’t like it. These companies are very confident in their product and strongly believe that you will end up liking the mattress after you try it.

    • It does but it’s very faint. I slept on my Helix the night I opened it. If you are especially sensitive to smells, you can let it sit opened in another room for a few days before using.

  4. I have a double pillow top mattress that has pillow top on both sides so I can flip it over from time to time and it is about 12 inches thick so I guess this mattress only being 6 or 7 inches thick I’ll have to buy all new sheets,, and can you flip this mattress

Actually, this is incorrect. You can choose to have the entire mattress be the same, but with the needs of the partners combined; or the mattress can be split, with each partner’s sides tailored to their individual needs, then fused together in the middle so there isn’t an obvious split. If the mattress is made entirely the same, they try to accommodate the more important needs of each partner – so if one partner is significantly heavier, the entire mattress will offer more support, for example.

We tried a Helix, and found it was really just too firm. I selected the softest available for my side, and it was unfortunately far from what I would call soft. My husband selected medium firm, and there was little difference between sides. Also, we both felt like we were sleeping on an air mattress with too much air. It actually seemed to push up against us, without feeling at all like we were sinking into a comfortable mattress. I didn’t notice any off gassing at all, and the mattress did expand very quickly. The motion transfer was pretty noticeable, but we previously had a memory foam mattress. I thought it was as bad as a typical innerspring mattress. I did a ton of research before ordering, and had really high hopes for this mattress, so I was really disappointed. We wound up with a Luxi.

We’ve initiated a return, but their customer service people seem to take their time on that piece. 🙁

    • When I first purchased my Helix mattress I loved it. I have had my mattress for almost a year and started experiecing low back pain and realized the mattress had significantly loosened. I called the company and the only help they could offer is for me to buy a mattress topper for a $100+. No guarantee if this topper will help and no returns if it doesn’t. The 10 year warranty on these mattresses only covers sagging. These beds don’t sag, but loosen up significantly and no real help with the mattress once the trial period is over. So if you do purchase one of these mattresses, make sure to purchase one that is too firm for you now, so that in a year you will still have a bed. Interesting is my husband had purchased extra firm on his side of the bed and it was so hard originally I couldn’t sleep on it. It is now comfortable to me. I wonder how long my husband will be able to sleep on this mattress without issues. I am very dissapointed in the long term durability of this mattress and feel it was a complete waste of money.

    • I’ve had the Helix Midnight Luxe for a little over a month and am returning it. It started out okay, but now I wake up overheated and with severe elbow pain (I’m a side sleeper) in the middle of the night. Definitely do not recommend!

  6. Just curious to know: how on earth would you ship the mattress back? It expands after it comes in a box, but I’m sure most of us don’t have the equipment needed to flatten it enough to fit it in a box again. Do they make you pay for return shipping?

    • Return shipping is free and they coordinate the return on their end so you just need to contact them and they will guide you through the return process.

  7. Just wanted to post a comment about my opinion on my Helix mattress for people looking for reviews because they’re considering buying one.

I would give my Helix mattress 3 out of 5 stars.
Don’t get me wrong, overall its a comfortable and good quality mattress and I enjoy sleeping on it. I guess for me the only downside is for $900 this mattress didn’t WOW me like I expected it to. The mattress stays cool which is good, its firm (but I do wish it was a tad bit more firm for my taste), but the main thing that made my buy this mattress and pay the premium price is it was supposed to be customizable for someone who is a side sleeper and I don’t really see a huge difference in comfort than I do sleeping on a standard mattress. In all I like the mattress but if I had tested it before buying it I probably would have passed because for a $900 price tag I don’t see that much of an increase in comfort sleeping on my side to justify the price difference. If the price were lower I would recommend it to other people but at $900 I would say you may want to consider some other options first.

    • Agree with much of what you wrote. I too am a side sleeper. My wife a stomach sleeper. We bought a dual comfort Helix. We’re different sizes, sleep in different positions, and she is always cold while I sleep hot. All that to say, our customized “profiles” and our own sides of the HELIX, per their specifications, were VERY different. The difference in reality between the two was far more subtle. My wife didn’t like hers – we switched for an experiment and ironically she preferred my side despite it being mostly contrary to what the quiz deemed “optimal” for her. I slept on hers and it wasn’t a huge difference. I liked my side better but I found it marginal. I was expecting a huge difference from our old coil mattress – better sleep, less pain, etc. and it didn’t deliver that. I have no issue with the price tag – ran me about $1500 CAD – because it really was an EXCELLENT quality mattress in my opinion. – it just wasn’t GREAT and I want great. That said – EXCELLENT quality product as I said, and customer service is outstanding. Sent it back after 3 months, no questions asked. Great company and really it is risk free so if tempted you have nothing to lose.
