How a Sleep Number actually works
Every Sleep Number bed is an air bed at heart: an air chamber under each side of the mattress, inflated or deflated to a firmness number from 0 to 100, with foam and (on the newer models) micro-coils layered on top. Couples get two independent numbers on any size Queen and up.
What separates the 2026 models is what sits above the air: foam only on the ComfortMode beds, thicker targeted foam on ComfortNext, micro-coils in the Tri-Brid Lux and Ultra, and active temperature hardware in the Climate collection. Everything else — the pump, the numbers, the trial — is shared.

How it performs, category by category
Micro-coil feel
The single biggest change in the 2026 lineup. Micro-coils push back point by point instead of compressing as a slab, so the surface follows your body more closely and recovers faster when you roll. It reads as a luxury hybrid rather than an air bed.
Lower-back support
Sleep Number adds the lumbar region to the relief map on the Lux and Ultra only. In practice that means the mid-section does not float above the mattress when you drop the firmness number for shoulder relief.
Pressure relief
Strong for side sleepers. The coil layer lets you run a lower number without the hip sinking into the chamber.
Cooling
Micro-coils create real airflow between the comfort layers, so the Lux runs cooler than any ComfortMode model. It is still not active cooling.
Motion isolation
Slightly less absolute isolation than an all-foam-over-air build — coils transmit a little bounce — but well controlled and worth the trade for responsiveness.
Edge support
Best of the non-Climate models. The coil layer stiffens the perimeter noticeably compared with ComfortNext.

- $3,999 for a Queen is premium-hybrid money before you add a base.
- No active cooling despite the price.
- Coils add a little bounce, so absolute motion isolation is slightly behind ComfortNext.
- Thirteen inches needs deep-pocket sheets.
