The ClimateCool is Sleep Number‘s answer to hot sleepers who don’t want to spend Climate360 money. Same DualAir adjustability as the rest of the 2026 lineup, but with a phase-change cooling cover and a foam stack tuned to shed heat. It sits between ComfortNext (no active cooling) and Climate360 (full active heating and cooling with airflow through the mattress).

Quick take

  • Feel: Slightly firmer top than ComfortNext at the same number
  • Best for: Hot sleepers who want cooling without Climate360’s $10k+ price
  • Cooling: Phase-change cover + heat-dissipating comfort layer — passive but effective
  • Skip if: You need active climate zones or you sleep cool
  • Trial: 100 nights, restocking fee applies

Who this bed is best for

  • Best for: hot sleepers who wake up damp or throw covers off nightly.
  • Best for: couples where one partner sleeps significantly hotter than the other — the phase-change cover works on both sides regardless of number setting.
  • Skip if: you sleep cold, or you already have a hybrid with strong airflow — you’re paying for cooling you won’t feel.

How the cooling actually works

Two mechanisms. First, the cover uses a phase-change material — think of it like a subtle ice pack that absorbs heat as it changes state. The cover feels cool to the touch when you get in, which is the moment sleep onset matters most. Second, the top comfort layer uses graphite-infused foam to conduct heat down and away from your body instead of trapping it.

What it is not: this is not active cooling. There is no fan, no airflow through the mattress, no thermostat. That’s Climate360’s territory. ClimateCool is passive but well-executed — comparable to a Purple Restore Hybrid or a Bear Elite Hybrid Cooling.

Feel, firmness, and pressure relief

Because the comfort layer is graphite-infused (denser than standard memory foam), ClimateCool sleeps slightly firmer than ComfortNext at the same number. Side sleepers: 30–40. Back sleepers: 50–65. Stomach sleepers: 65+. Pressure relief is strong for a Sleep Number — the graphite foam contours well without swallowing you.

Pros

  • Phase-change cover you can actually feel on contact
  • Meaningfully cooler than ComfortNext for hot sleepers
  • Same DualAir dual-firmness benefits as the rest of the lineup
  • Better pressure relief than the entry tiers

Cons

  • Not active cooling — Climate360 is a different animal
  • Priced above most premium hybrids that also cool well passively
  • Foam-over-air construction still traps some heat in the chamber
  • Restocking fee on returns

5-year total cost of ownership

  • Bed + FlexFit base (Queen): ~$5,000
  • Cooling-safe sheets (percale or Tencel recommended): ~$180
  • Mattress protector rated for the cooling cover: ~$180
  • Realistic replacement horizon: 9–11 years

About $1,070/year over five years. That’s a premium over a cooling hybrid — you’re paying for the adjustability, not the cooling alone.

How it compares

Versus Climate360: Climate360 delivers active heating and cooling with airflow through the mattress and is genuinely a different product. If your problem is “I can’t get to sleep because I’m too hot” — ClimateCool solves it. If your problem is “I wake up in a puddle at 3am every night” — you probably need Climate360. Versus a cooling hybrid like the Saatva RX or Bear Elite Hybrid: those cool comparably at the surface for less money, but lack Sleep Number’s adjustability.

Delivery, trial, warranty

100-night trial with $199 restocking fee. In-home setup available. 15-year limited warranty with a short full-replace window.

Frequently asked questions

Does ClimateCool replace the old cp8/cp9? Effectively yes — Sleep Number consolidated the cooling-oriented models into the ClimateCool name in late 2025.

How much cooler is it than ComfortNext? Meaningfully at sleep onset (touch feel) and modestly across the night (2–4°F warmer skin surface temperature reduction, in our informal testing).

Do I need special sheets? Yes — use percale, Tencel, or a light Supima. Heavy flannel or fleece defeats the phase-change cover.

Can I try it in San Diego? At Sleep Number stores only. Our Yawnder showroom carries a premium cooling hybrid lineup if you want to compare passive cooling approaches side by side.

Is it worth the upgrade from ComfortNext? If you sleep hot, yes. If you sleep neutral, no — put the money into the base or a better mattress protector.

Verdict

ClimateCool is the right pick for hot sleepers who want Sleep Number’s adjustability without paying Climate360 money. If cooling isn’t a real pain point for you, don’t pay for it — ComfortNext is the smarter buy. And if you’re an extreme hot sleeper, don’t stop here — the jump to Climate360 exists for a reason.
