Short answer: ComfortMode Lux is the top of Sleep Number’s entry collection: $2,499 for a Queen, 11 inches tall, with what Sleep Number describes as advanced relief for hips and about 25% more built-in cooling material than the standard ComfortMode. It is still an offline bed — no app, no sleep score — but it is the version of the entry bed that side sleepers should actually be looking at.

How a Sleep Number actually works
Every Sleep Number bed is an air bed at heart: an air chamber under each side of the mattress, inflated or deflated to a firmness number from 0 to 100, with foam and (on the newer models) micro-coils layered on top. Couples get two independent numbers on any size Queen and up.
What separates the 2026 models is what sits above the air: foam only on the ComfortMode beds, thicker targeted foam on ComfortNext, micro-coils in the Tri-Brid Lux and Ultra, and active temperature hardware in the Climate collection. Everything else — the pump, the numbers, the trial — is shared.

How it performs, category by category
Hip and shoulder relief
Sleep Number describes added cushioning for the hips. Try both ComfortMode models at different settings and check shoulder and hip pressure; Yawnder has not pressure-mapped this model.
Cooling
Sleep Number says Lux has 25% more built-in cooling materials than standard ComfortMode. That material comparison does not establish an overnight temperature difference; we have not measured the two models.
Firmness range
Identical control range to the base model — 0 to 100 per side, two independent numbers on a Queen and up.
Motion isolation
Couples can try different firmness settings. We have not measured motion transfer or compared it with standard ComfortMode.
Edge support
Try sitting and lying near the edge. We have not measured edge compression or usable sleep area on this mattress.
Long-term ownership
Sleep Number rates the design life of these beds at up to 25 years, but the pump, hoses and remote are electronics. Keep the receipt and register the bed — the warranty is prorated after year two.

What should I know before ordering?
On October 28, 2026, Sleep Number listed the queen ComfortMode Lux at $2,499 and the standard queen ComfortMode at $1,999, before a base and other charges. The manufacturer’s configurator shows current options and prices. Adjustable bases are final sale under Sleep Number’s return terms; a replacement after an exchange is also final sale and does not start a new trial.
How are firmness and the base controlled?
Sleep Number says ComfortMode beds use a remote rather than its app and may have either a Firmness Control or Core Control system. Its support guide associates Responsive Air with Core Control only, so ask which control system and features are included in your exact order. An adjustable base uses a separate remote. If the bed seems to lose air, check the hose connections and kinks as directed in the manufacturer’s guide.
How much does the ComfortMode Lux cost?
$2,499 list for a Queen, $500 above the standard ComfortMode. Sleep Number discounts the collection regularly, so check the live price before ordering.
What is the difference between ComfortMode and ComfortMode Lux?
The Lux is 11 inches instead of 10, adds advanced pressure relief targeted at the hips and carries roughly 25% more built-in cooling material. Both are remote-only with no app.
Does ComfortMode Lux have sleep tracking?
