ComfortMode, ComfortNext and Climate each solve a different sleep problem. Here is how all seven current models compare on comfort, connected features, cooling and overall value—without confusing the former c, p and i series with today’s beds.
- Different firmness on each side
- Seven distinct comfort and feature levels
- Active temperature control on Climate beds
- You prefer a traditional coil or pillowtop feel
- You want fewer electronic components
- Advanced cooling and bases strain your budget
All seven Sleep Number beds at a glance
The chart covers the current ComfortMode (2), ComfortNext (3) and Climate (2) collections. Heights are mattress profiles rather than bed-with-base heights. Prices and promotions fluctuate, so compare the final checkout total rather than rely on an outdated sale figure.

Check current Sleep Number offers →ComfortMode vs. ComfortMode Lux: the entry choices

ComfortMode is the simpler adjustable-air route. Couples can choose separate firmness settings rather than compromise on one feel. The ComfortMode Lux adds cushioning; pick it if the entry bed feels too direct under your shoulders or hips. These are not substitutes for a deeply cushioned hybrid if that is the sensation you want.
ComfortMode models principally use remote control rather than the connected feature set of ComfortNext. Some configurations support Responsive Air, so confirm the exact features of the model offered rather than assuming every entry bed is identical. Read our ComfortMode review and ComfortMode Lux review.
ComfortNext, Lux and Ultra: the middle of the lineup

ComfortNext is the starting point for connected controls, Responsive Air and more targeted comfort materials. If you want a smart bed rather than just adjustable firmness, this is the first tier to compare carefully.
ComfortNext Lux and ComfortNext Ultra step up the cushioning and profile height. Spend more for the resulting feel—not because a thicker profile automatically produces better support for everyone. A side sleeper seeking pressure relief may appreciate the extra comfort material; a sleeper who likes a firmer, flatter surface may not.
ClimateCool vs. Climate360: understand the cooling difference

ClimateCool actively cools each side of the mattress. This matters because passive cooling fabric and active airflow are different technologies. Someone who simply likes a cool-to-the-touch cover may not need to pay for an active system; someone who regularly overheats might.

Climate360 provides active cooling and warming with individualized climate preferences. It is the more feature-rich choice for couples with opposite temperature needs, but the additional expense makes sense only if that feature solves a real problem. How Sleep Number compares with a conventional hybrid
Adjustable air chambers change how much support each side provides. That flexibility is Sleep Number’s chief advantage; the top foam comfort layers and electronics also create a different feel and ownership experience from a coil-based hybrid. A higher air-firmness number does not tell you exactly how the shoulder, hip or lumbar region will feel—try a range of settings.
In Yawnder’s mattress showroom, we have firsthand experience comparing traditional hybrids and pillowtops from several brands. We do not stock Sleep Number, and we are not assigning laboratory-style pressure, motion or cooling scores to Sleep Number mattresses without matching test evidence. You can use our San Diego showroom to compare the traditional-mattress alternative, not to try these Sleep Number models.
What to check before buying
- Actual delivered total: compare mattress, compatible base, delivery/setup and accessories, not only the advertised mattress price.
- Return terms: mattresses have a 100-night in-home trial subject to conditions; adjustable bases and certain other items are final sale.
- Warranty: for models purchased March 23, 2026 or later, Sleep Number describes two years of full coverage followed by eight years of limited coverage. Earlier purchase dates can have different terms.
- Controls and connectivity: ComfortNext and Climate models have connected capabilities; ComfortMode feature sets vary. Check any required app, Wi-Fi and control accessories.
- Cooling type: only ClimateCool and Climate360 provide active climate cooling, and only Climate360 adds active warming.
Policies and feature information: Sleep Number returns and exchanges; current warranty terms; Responsive Air support.
Which Sleep Number should you buy?
- Lowest-cost way to get adjustable firmness: start with ComfortMode and compare ComfortMode Lux if you need more padding.
- Interested in smart adjustments without climate control: start with ComfortNext; choose Lux or Ultra based on comfort, not model name.
- Regularly sleep hot: prioritize ClimateCool over passive-cooling descriptions.
- One partner is hot while the other is cold: investigate Climate360’s heating and cooling system.
- You do not need different firmness or temperature control: compare premium hybrids before paying the technology premium.
Frequently asked questions
What happened to the Sleep Number c2, p5, i8 and i10?
Those are names from previous generations. Sleep Number’s current comparison lineup is ComfortMode, ComfortMode Lux, ComfortNext, ComfortNext Lux, ComfortNext Ultra, ClimateCool and Climate360. Older owners should use their original documentation rather than assuming a new model is a one-for-one replacement.
Is ClimateCool passive or active cooling?
Active cooling. Sleep Number’s current Climate documentation distinguishes ClimateCool’s active cooling from Climate360’s active cooling and warming.
Can I try a Sleep Number mattress at Yawnder?
No. Yawnder does not sell or display Sleep Number mattresses. Our Encinitas-area showroom is for comparing other hybrid and pillowtop options in person.
Are Sleep Number adjustable bases returnable?
Sleep Number lists adjustable bases among its final-sale items. Confirm the specific mattress/base bundle and return terms before purchase.
Do all Sleep Number beds have sleep tracking?
No. Do not treat ComfortMode remote-controlled models as identical to the connected ComfortNext and Climate collections. Verify the particular model’s connectivity, tracking and Responsive Air capabilities.
Bottom line
Sleep Number is easiest to shop by the problem you need to solve: firmness differences (ComfortMode), connected comfort and added cushioning (ComfortNext), active cooling (ClimateCool) or cooling plus warming (Climate360). Work upward only when a feature matters to you. The best mattress is the one that fits your body and sleep habits—not automatically the most expensive smart bed.
