Spoon Mattress: Must-Have Hybrid for Effortless Comfort

4 FlexSupportBaseFoam

The Spoon Sleep mattress is a hybrid mattress that combines the pressure relief of memory foam with the support of innerspring coils. It is designed to provide a balance of comfort and support for all sleep positions, and is particularly well-suited for back sleepers.

The mattress is made up of five layers:

  • Climate Cool Touch Cover: This cover dissipates excess heat to keep sleepers cool and comfortable.
  • Rely Foam: This layer of foam provides a medium-firm sleep surface with good responsiveness.
  • Spoon Pillar Technology: This layer of foam cylinders is strategically placed to provide pressure relief and support.
  • Serene Foam: This layer of foam is designed to be more breathable than memory foam, and it also helps to prevent heat buildup.
  • Quantum® Edge Elite Steel Perimeter: This perimeter provides edge support and prevents sleepers from rolling off the bed.

The Spoon Sleep mattress is available in a variety of sizes and firmness levels, so sleepers can find the perfect mattress for their needs. It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial, so sleepers can try it out before they commit to buying it.

Here is an overview of the pros and cons of the Spoon Sleep mattress:

Pros:

  • Provides a good balance of comfort and support
  • Good pressure relief
  • Good edge support
  • Available in a variety of sizes and firmness levels
  • Comes with a 100-night sleep trial

Cons:

  • Some sleepers may find the mattress to be too soft
  • The mattress can be heavy and difficult to move

Overall, the Spoon Sleep mattress is a good option for sleepers who are looking for a hybrid mattress that provides a balance of comfort and support. It is also a good option for sleepers who are looking for a mattress with good edge support.

The Spoon Mattress is a memory foam mattress with foam cylinders inside that act like inner springs. In fact they are in some ways superior to inner springs because they are less prone to breaking down and have much less motion transfer but still provide a little bit of bounce. People looking for an all foam mattress but don’t want to deal with the motion transfer issues commonly associated with springs, the Spoon mattress is definitely worth considering.

Overview of the Spoon Mattress

You can buy the Spoon Mattress exclusively through their website. This mattress is made in the USA and will ship to your door about 5 business days after ordering.  Below is a picture of the box that houses the mattress.

How Much does the Spoon Mattress Cost?

Below are the prices of the mattress for each size:

Twin  $700
Twin XL $800
Full $900
Queen $1,100
King $1,300
Cal King $1,300

Below is a video explaining some of the general features of the mattress.

Construction of the Spoon Sleep Mattress

This video from the Spoon website does a great job of explaining how the mattress is constructed. It is not your typical 3 layer foam mattress. The foam pillars inside are what really set this mattress apart.

Here’s a picture of the inside of the mattress. As you can see it looks like a typical mattress but when you dig deeper you will find the pillars inside.

Here’s a breakdown of each of the layers of the mattress.

COOLING COMFORT LAYER

The cooling comfort layer is an open cell urethane that is inherently cool. The layer enhances the breathability of the mattress creating a cool and satisfying environment.

My Spoon Sleep Findings

Overall I found this mattress to be more of a medium firm feel. You definitely get good support from the foam pillars underneath.

Here’s a video that shows how each layer responds to pressure.

I also poured some water on the top of the mattress to test the water resistant cover. True to claims, it beaded quickly and stayed that way for a while. This made it easy to clean up without the water setting in.

Having a cover like this is nice because you can get away with not needing a mattress protector. However, if this is for a child that still may be prone to wetting the bed, then I would still add a protector for safety.

I received an individual pillar when I opened the box.

spoon sleep wrapper pillar

The pillar itself is really firm. Below is a video that shows how quickly it bounces back and this will emulate an inner spring.

The mattress performs about average for heat retention. I think the water proof barrier may make it a bit less breathable than most knit covers I have tested.

As for motion transfer, you do get a little bounce in part from the pillars and also because they don’t use as dense of foam on the top layer in comparison to some of the other online brands I have tried.

My Spoon Sleep Recommendation

The Spoon Sleep mattress is not just another memory foam mattress in a box. This product has brought some true innovation to market and I think customers will welcome it. People looking for the pressure relief that only memory foam can provide along with some of the feel reminiscent of a traditional spring mattress will enjoy the Spoon mattress.

Tanda Mattress Review: Must-Have Cool Comfort Awaits

Tanda Mattress Review

The Dromma Bed has been discontinued. Please check out our other mattress reviews.

[vc_column_text class=”sleep-sherpa-exclusive-deal”]I just received a free Tanda Mattress for review. The Tanda mattress comes in two constructions, the Comfy Cool mattress and the Complete Cool mattress. I received the Complete cool mattress which features something called, ATROS technology. This is a phase change material to the extreme. It provides a lasting cooling sensation to keep you comfortable throughout the night.  Both models of the Tanda are all memory foam mattresses.

Overview of the Tanda Mattress

You can order the Tanda directly through their website. As with most of the online mattress brands, this one will arrive about a week after placing your order and will arrive in a box at your door. No need to wait for scheduled delivery times either.

Prices for the Tanda are as follows:

Twin $550
Twin XL $600
Full $800
Queen $950
King $1,150
Cal King $1,150

Tanda Mattress Construction

The Tanda mattress is constructed as follows:

  • 10 inches high
  • Top layer is a Tencel fabric with ATROS technology
  • Top layer of comfort foam
  • Transition layer of gel memory foam
  • Base layer of support foam

Tanda Mattress Construction

My Tanda findings

The Tanda definitely lives up to its claims by sleeping cool. Even lying on the mattress with a light sweater, I could feel the cooling effect of the ATROS technology. Below is a video shot with my thermal camera to illustrate heat retention. Just note that the video below doesn’t tell the whole story. This mattress is actually cool to the touch so even though there is heat coming off the mattress you still get a cooling sensation.

This mattress sink a little bit but I wouldn’t call it a plush mattress. I would say it is more a true medium firm foam mattress. Here’s a picutre to show how much the mattress will sink.

Tanda mattress sink

Here’s a video demonstrating the amount of motion transfer you can expect with this mattress. Again, since it’s an all foam mattress you won’t have to deal with your partner waking you up at night from tossing and turning.

Finally, here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. You’ll noticed that it doesn’t bounce back immediately but also doesn’t take too long to recover. This again gives it a good balance of pressure relief and responsiveness.

My Tanda Mattress Recommendation

The Tanda mattress is an excellent choice for people looking for a mattress with denser foam than many of the more popular options that also can sleep cool. The ATROS technology is no joke. It really will help you sleep cool. To compliment their cool sleeping mattress, they also offer pillows with the same cooling technology. The Complete Cool pillow retails for $75 and is made with a shredded foam inside. Below is a picture of the inside of the pillow.

Tanda Pillow Inside

These pillows have gusseted edges which make them ideal for side sleeping.

Tanda PIllow

In conclusion, if you have tried and like the feel of memory foam but are having trouble with heat retention issues, I think the Tanda would be a great choice for people that sleep hot. You should get immediate relief with the cool to the touch cover that should have a lasting effect to keep you asleep.

Ojai Mattress: Stunning Quality at an Unbeatable Price

Ojai Mattress

You can no longer buy the Brentwood Home Ojai mattress. It was discontinued in 2022.

Brentwood Home has replaced the Ojai mattress with the Cypress mattress. The Cypress mattress is a similar mattress, but it is made with different materials and has a different construction.

If you are interested in buying a memory foam mattress from Brentwood Home, I recommend that you check out the Cypress mattress. It is a good quality mattress that is available in a variety of firmness and height options.

The Ojai Mattress is a latex and foam mattress from Brentwood Home with a Tencel fabric cover. I rate this mattress to be a medium feel. People looking for a more plush mattress with sink should consider the Oceano or Cedar mattress instead.  Brentwood Home now has three flagship mattress which are the Ojai, Oceano and Cedar. Each has a unique feel and story but all exude the quality and craftsmanship that Brentwood Home has become known for.

Overview of the Ojai Mattress

The Ojai mattress is sold exclusively through the Brentwood Home website. The mattress comes with a 120 night trial period where you can try it out in your home and if you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund. The way returns work is that you would donate the mattress to a local charity and then email your donation receipt to Brentwood Home for a full refund. There are no shipping charges and no return charges either. It’s a clean break.

The Ojai Mattress retails as follows:

Twin: $795
Twin XL: $859
Full: $995
Queen: $1,195
King: $1,395
CA King: $1,395
Split King: $1495

This makes the Ojai the most affordable mattress of their three offerings.

Here’s a video of me on the Ojai explaining some of the features of the mattress. This is one of the few mattresses on the market that has foam, springs, latex, and tufting. Lots of value here.

Construction of the Ojai Mattress

  • Tencel Stretch Knit Cover
Eco-friendly, plant based fiber is softer than silk and more breathable than linen. A 4-way stretch knit allows you to reap all of the pressure relieving benefits of the comfort layers while staying cool. It’s been hand-tufted to secure the layers without chemical adhesives that can block airflow.New Zealand Wool
Untreated New Zealand wool wicks away moisture, allows for air circulation, and regulates temperature for comfortable sleep through the seasons.1.5-Inch Flo Foam
This responsive and sensitive layer of CertiPUR-US Certified Flo Foam will conform to your body to provide perfect pressure relief
Density: 4lb/ft3, ILD: 121.5-Inch Gel Memory Foam
Gel memory foam relieves pressure points by distributing weight evenly across the mattress. Ideal for couples, it isolates motion so you won’t disturb your partner while you sleep.
Density: 4lb/ft3, ILD: 101-Inch Natural Latex
Adds responsiveness so you never feel stuck. All natural and free of synthetic ingredients. Our latex made with the Dunlop process.
Density: 4.0lb/ft38-inch Individually Wrapped Base Coils
Quantum Edge Combi-Zone base coils are strategically positioned to provide support to the hips, back, and shoulders. Reinforced coils around the perimeter keep the edges rigid and supportive. Coils are individually wrapped for precise response to your body’s shape and movements.
Counts: Twin: 756, Twin XL: 772, Full: 1016, Queen: 1130, King: 1414, Cal King: 1384, Split King: 1544

Ojai Mattress Construction The Ojai is a fairly simple construction but Brentwood uses quality materials throughout.

The cover is made with Tencel fabric. The main benefits of Tencel are that it is more breathable and moisture absorbent than cotton and less prone to wrinkles. Tencel has a soft, silky feel which makes it an ideal cover for a mattress.

The fire barrier is made with hydrated silica sand.

The cover is also made with New Zealand wool which helps to regulate temperature. If you have ever worn wool socks, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Under that, you will find a 3-inch layer of cooling gel memory foam which provides the pressure relief.

Under that is a layer of latex for a little bit of bounce making the mattress easier to move around on.

Another signature of the Brentwood lineup is that this mattress is hand-tufted. This reduces the need for extra glue to keep the layers of material together. Here’s a photo fo the tufting. Not only does this look great but it serves a purpose and is not something most mattress companies offer, especially at this price point.

Ojai cover hand tufted

This mattress is backed by a 25 year limited warranty. Many online brands aren’t even over 2 years old. Brentwood has been in business making mattresses for over 30 years so a warranty like this carries weight.

My Ojai Mattress Findings

This mattress will feel more like a quality traditional mattress than a typical memory foam mattress. I think that’s because they use latex and hand-tufting which tightens up the mattress and doesn’t allow you to sink into it too much.

Here’s a photo of my bowling ball on the mattress to illustrate sinkage.

Ojai Mattress Sink

This mattress is super easy to move around on. As you can tell from the video above you are going to sleep more “on” than “in” this mattress.

Here’s a video showing how much motion transfer you can expect. I expected a bit more than this but I think with the tufting along with the 3 inches of gel foam you get good energy absorption.

Couples shouldn’t have to worry about waking each other up on this mattress during the night.

Here’s a video showing heat dissipation using my thermal camera. This is the only Brentwood Home mattress with a Tencel cover and it seems to draw heat away faster than the others.

My Ojai Mattress Recommendation

The Ojai is the perfect mattress for someone looking for a medium firm mattress with a touch of luxury. This mattress looks amazing and feels great for someone seeking a firm and supportive base. At this price point, you would be hard-pressed to find the materials and construction in a similar mattress.

With a 120 night free trial period I think people seeking a firmer supportive mattress owe it to themselves to give this one a try. It deviates from the typical 3 layer foam offering found all too often and offers a feel you won’t find anywhere else.
