Celliant® is a proprietary mix of 13 thermo-reactive minerals that are embedded into polyester fibers. This fiber absorbs body heat and recycles it into infrared energy. My Amerisleep AS3 Findings

Here’s another view from the side of the mattress.

It’s a minor detail but in my mind, it matters. The zipper system on this mattress is high quality. It’s easy to unzip and the zipper is actually in the middle so you don’t have to lift up the mattress to access it.

Here’s a picture of the layers of the mattress. Below the blue cover that you see above, there is a fire sock. I removed part of the fire sock to show you these layers. Again, these are cut clean. Some mattresses I have opened are warped towards the corners and don’t fully recover due to the use of too much glue.

Amerisleep uses a plant-based foam in their mattresses to lessen the environmental impact. I’m not sure the exact ratio but it is certainly nice to learn that they are trying to move the needle in the right direction. The foam is an open-cell foam which means more breathability too. This mattress feels amazing and is breathable for an all foam mattress.

Here’s a video showing the inside layers of the AS3 and how each reacts. The top layer is a little slower to recover because it provides the most contouring and pressure relief. The recovery is faster than most dense foam mattresses but not quite as fast of a recovery as something like an Avena foam. Basically, you won’t get that stuck feeling and the mattress is really easy to move around on.

 

My Amerisleep AS3 Recommendation

Amerisleep has a relatively long history in the online mattress space. The fact that they have retail stores in Arizona, Oregon, Texas, and Colorado is a good indicator that they stand by their product. Their 20-year warranty and 100-night sleep trial period also suggest that they are confident you will be impressed with this mattress once you try it. The Nature’s Novel mattress by Sweet Zzz is a mattress made with natural wool, Talalay latex and a base layer of foam. It comes with a 100 night trial with free shipping and free returns. This mattress is a nice departure from the typical 3 layer foam construction. The layers of latex at the top provide a breathable and supportive surface that makes it easy to change positions at night.

As you can see from the picture above, the base layer is foam. Above that there are two layers of latex. There is wool in between the top layer and the knit cover which acts as a natural fire barrier.

I’m not sure the exact weight but this is a heavy mattress. Mine came packed in a box the size of the mattress instead of roll packed so you may want to opt for the white glove delivery service for an extra $149.

My Nature’s Novel Mattress Findings

I found this mattress to be on the firmer side which can be expected when you have latex at the top. This means you will sleep more “on” the mattress than “in” it.

Below is my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress to illustrate how much sink you can expect.

What I found most remarkable about this mattress is that you get a fair amount of bounce and quick recovery despite it not having a spring system. The two layers of latex at the top are instantly responsive making it easy to change positions. The base layer of foam also helps absorb motion transfer.

 

Here’s a look inside the mattress. In this video you can see how each layer reacts. The two top layers of latex bounce back instantly and so does the foam base layer which provides a firm foundation for the top two latex layers.

This mattress has good breathability due to the top layers of latex. Below is a picture of the top latex layer. When latex is made, there are holes created by the mold when it is poured. This allows for more air transfer.

The Tanda mattress comes in two constructions, the Comfy Cool mattress and the Complete Cool mattress. I received the Complete cool mattress which features something called, ATROS technology. This is a phase change material to the extreme. It provides a lasting cooling sensation to keep you comfortable throughout the night.  Both models of the Tanda are all memory foam mattresses.

You can order the Tanda directly through their website. As with most of the online mattress brands, this one will arrive about a week after placing your order and will arrive in a box at your door. No need to wait for scheduled delivery times either.

The Tanda mattress is constructed as follows:

  • 10 inches high
  • Top layer is a Tencel fabric with ATROS technology
  • Top layer of comfort foam
  • Transition layer of gel memory foam

My Tanda findings

The Tanda definitely lives up to its claims by sleeping cool. Even lying on the mattress with a light sweater, I could feel the cooling effect of the ATROS technology. Below is a video shot with my thermal camera to illustrate heat retention. Just note that the video below doesn’t tell the whole story. This mattress is actually cool to the touch so even though there is heat coming off the mattress you still get a cooling sensation.

This mattress sink a little bit but I wouldn’t call it a plush mattress. I would say it is more a true medium firm foam mattress. Here’s a picutre to show how much the mattress will sink.

Here’s a video demonstrating the amount of motion transfer you can expect with this mattress. Again, since it’s an all foam mattress you won’t have to deal with your partner waking you up at night from tossing and turning.

 

Finally, here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. You’ll noticed that it doesn’t bounce back immediately but also doesn’t take too long to recover. This again gives it a good balance of pressure relief and responsiveness.

 

My Tanda Mattress Recommendation

The Tanda mattress is an excellent choice for people looking for a mattress with denser foam than many of the more popular options that also can sleep cool. The ATROS technology is no joke. It really will help you sleep cool. To compliment their cool sleeping mattress, they also offer pillows with the same cooling technology. The Complete Cool pillow retails for $75 and is made with a shredded foam inside. Below is a picture of the inside of the pillow.

These pillows have gusseted edges which make them ideal for side sleeping.

In conclusion, if you have tried and like the feel of memory foam but are having trouble with heat retention issues, I think the Tanda would be a great choice for people that sleep hot. You should get immediate relief with the cool to the touch cover that should have a lasting effect to keep you asleep.
