Molecule Hybrid Review Video

Watch the video below to get my overall reaction to the Molecule Hybrid and what customers in our store thought of it.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Rated 4.2 out of 5

The molecule hybrid mattress is designed to minimize motion transfer. Its hybrid construction features individually wrapped coils that isolate movement, while the foam layers provide cushioning and support. This combination of materials helps to absorb and reduce motion transfer, making it an excellent choice for couples or anyone who shares a bed. Additionally, the foam layers help to distribute weight evenly, which can further reduce motion transfer and prevent disturbances when one person moves during the night.

Pressure Relief

Rated 4.4 out of 5

The Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed with pressure relief in mind. The mattress features multiple foam layers, including a comfort layer made with gel-infused memory foam and a support layer made with a proprietary foam blend. These layers work together to provide targeted support and pressure relief.

The gel-infused memory foam in the comfort layer conforms to the body’s shape, which can help to alleviate pressure points and reduce pain in sensitive areas like the hips, shoulders, and lower back. The support layer is designed to provide deep compression support and prevent sagging, which can also help to reduce pressure points.

Overall, the Molecule Hybrid mattress has received positive reviews for its pressure relief capabilities. Many customers have reported feeling less pain and discomfort after sleeping on the mattress, particularly in areas that are prone to pressure points.

Although it scores great with pressure relief, just keep in mind that heavier sleepers may find that it lacks necessary support.

Rated 4.4 out of 5

Temperature Regulation

Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed with materials that promote breathability and help to regulate temperature. The cover has a phase change material that makes it cool to the touch and will have a cooling effect for the first 30 mintues you are on the mattress.

The top layer of the mattress is made with a proprietary gel-infused memory foam that is designed to draw heat away from the body and prevent overheating. The support layer is made with a proprietary foam blend that also promotes airflow and allows for heat to dissipate.

Many customers have reported that the Molecule Hybrid mattress sleeps cooler than other memory foam mattresses they have tried. However, it’s worth noting that individual preferences and experiences may vary depending on factors such as room temperature, bedding, and personal body temperature. If you tend to sleep hot, it’s important to consider factors such as room temperature and bedding material to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the night.

Edge Support

Rated 4.4 out of 5

The Molecule Hybrid mattress has good edge support compared to other foam mattresses, thanks to its hybrid construction that includes a layer of individually wrapped coils. The coils provide additional support around the perimeter of the mattress, which helps to prevent sagging and improves the overall edge support.

Additionally, the Molecule Hybrid has a reinforced perimeter that is designed to enhance edge support and provide a more stable sleeping surface. This is particularly useful for couples or individuals who tend to sleep closer to the edge of the bed and want to avoid feeling like they are going to roll off.

While the Molecule Hybrid may not have as much edge support as a traditional innerspring mattress, it is comparable to other hybrid or foam mattresses on the market. Overall, the Molecule Hybrid is a good choice if you are looking for a foam mattress with solid edge support.

Molecule Pillows

Ease of Movement

Rated 4.4 out of 5

Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed to promote a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface that allows for easy movement and position changes throughout the night. This is mainly due to the pocket coil system but also the foam that recovers quickly so you don’t feel like you are stuck in a hole.

Sex

Rated 4.4 out of 5

The Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed to be good for sex. Its hybrid construction, with foam layers and individually wrapped coils, provides a supportive yet cushioning surface that can make intimate activities more comfortable and enjoyable. The foam layers also help to reduce motion transfer, which can prevent disturbances when one partner moves or changes positions.

The medium-firm feel of the mattress provides a good balance of support and comfort, which can make it easier to change positions and maintain stability during intimate activities. Additionally, the mattress has a responsive feel that allows for easy movement and adjustment, which can help to enhance the overall experience.

Overall, the Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed to provide a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface that can also enhance intimate activities, making it a good choice for couples. However, individual experiences and preferences may vary, so it’s important to consider personal needs and preferences when choosing a mattress.

Off-Gassing

Rated 4.4 out of 5

Like most mattresses that contain foam, the Molecule Hybrid mattress may emit a slight odor when it is first unpacked. This odor, commonly referred to as “off-gassing,” is the result of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process and is not unique to the Molecule Hybrid mattress.

However, the Molecule Hybrid mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, which means that it meets rigorous standards for content, emissions, and durability. The certification ensures that the mattress is made without harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, phthalates, ozone depleters, and flame retardants, which can be harmful to health and the environment.

Most customers report that any odor from the Molecule Hybrid mattress dissipates within a few days, especially if the room is well-ventilated. To speed up the process, it is recommended to remove any plastic wrapping and allow the mattress to air out for a few hours before using it. If you are particularly sensitive to odors or chemicals, it may be helpful to choose a mattress with a lower odor profile, such as a latex or organic mattress.

Mattress Construction

The Molecule Hybrid mattress has a multi-layered construction that is designed to provide both support and comfort. Here is a breakdown of the layers:

  1. Cover: The cover of the Molecule Hybrid mattress is made from a breathable, moisture-wicking material that helps to regulate temperature and keep the sleeper cool and comfortable.

  2. Comfort layer: The comfort layer is made from 3 inches of gel-infused memory foam that conforms to the body’s shape and helps to alleviate pressure points. The gel infusion also helps to draw heat away from the body and promote airflow.

  3. Transition layer: The transition layer is made from 2 inches of a proprietary foam blend that is designed to provide additional support and prevent sinking or sagging.

  4. Support layer: The support layer is made from individually wrapped coils that provide targeted support and help to isolate movement. The coils are also designed to promote airflow and prevent overheating.

  5. Base layer: The base layer is made from a high-density foam that provides durability and stability to the mattress.

Overall, the Molecule Hybrid mattress is designed to provide a balance of support and comfort, with a focus on pressure relief and temperature regulation. The hybrid construction combines the benefits of foam and coils, providing a supportive yet cushioning sleeping surface.

Reflex Pillow: The Best Solution for Pain-Free Sleep

Reflex Pillow

Reflex Pillow: A Side Sleeper’s Dream

The Reflex Pillow was specifically designed to relieve and eradicate the neck pain and back pain that is usually a result of inadequate support during sleep. But even more, the Reflex Pillow is best suited for side sleepers.

reflex pillow unbox

Sleeping on your side, for those that do, just feels natural. It’s even how we prepared ourselves for the real world while still in the womb. There is a certain comfort to it that is difficult to shake, and even more difficult to shop for. So many pillow manufacturing companies try to create products that are a one-size-fits-all but this rarely works.

Overview of the Reflex Pillow

reflex pillow overview

Noel O’Conner, the Irish inventor behind the Reflex Pillow, is a specialist in the treatment of back and neck pain since 1987.

After having to both see and treat countless patients, he was motivated to create a pillow that could alleviate so many of the issues that come from poor sleep such as neck pain, spinal alignment, sleep apnoea, snoring, insomnia and even teeth grinding.

  • Most ideal for side sleepers
  • Created in Ireland
  • Reflex foam is 50% softer than memory foam
  • An expensive pillow no doubt but with the quality to match
  • Item must be purchased directly through the Reflex Pillow website
  • Shipping is $30 (since it’s coming to you from Ireland)
  • They have a 14-day return policy

The Reflex Pillow is fully patented and trademarked. It is also an approved medical device and CE certified.

CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA)The Reflex Pillow retails for €79.00 which comes out to be roughly $97.53. Being that it’s being shipped to you directly from Ireland, shipping on top of that is €25.00 which is roughly $30.87. The pillow can only be purchased directly through their site.

Construction of the Reflex Pillow

The Reflex Pillow is 610mm long x 412mm wide x 110mm high. In inches that means it’s  24” long x 16.22” wide x 4.33” high. It has a flat bottom base along with a shaped top surface. It weighs 2 kg which is about 4.4 lbs. It’s suitable for all standard pillow cases.

It’s specially formulated with a non toxic foam material, also known as Reflex Foam, which was specifically created to be used in this product. Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam.

My Reflex Pillow Findings

I really consider the Reflex Pillow to be a substantial and high quality product. Given it’s price that’s precisely what it should be and that’s exactly what it is. While it isn’t said to be for side sleepers only, this is the impression that I was given when reading this:

reflex pillow directions

The Reflex Pillow is constructed with some amazing contouring. It’s a pillow that finally pays mind to the all of the details of the body when considering the head, neck and shoulders. There is an anti-headroll ridge in the center, there are 2 head dips, as seen in the image above, and then there is a neck support and shoulder slot. And let me tell you, that shoulder slot is heavenly.

In in the information guide that came with the pillow, there is no indication of how to sleep on the Reflex Pillow if you were sleeping on your back because I don’t believe it was designed for that. If it were, why else have the ridge in the center?

I am usually reluctant when it comes to foam pillows but this one is really different because it’s not created with memory foam. In fact Reflex Foam is 50% softer than memory foam. Reflex foam is soft, comfortable, pleasant but also supportive. When laying on it for the first time I could tell that it still provides adequate support for the neck and shoulder. Overall it gives stability without feeling stiff.

reflex pillow firmness

My Reflex Pillow Recommendation

One of the first things that stood out to me about the product was the passion involved in creating it. Noel O’Conner, a back and neck pain specialist, put himself out there on crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo to fuel his dream and create a product that would be effective in helping people overcome their neck pain and spinal alignment issues. He ended up raising twice the amount of his original goal, which gave me the awesome opportunity to try it.

reflex pillow kickstarter

The pillow is costly, there’s no doubt about that but you pay a high price for high quality goods, that’s just the reality. I also actually like that you have to purchase it from their website directly. It says a lot about how important it is to the company to handle their own product and their own customer service. For people who are truly suffering with pain from sleeping or pain overall, that can easily worsen with poor pillow support, the Reflex Pillow is absolutely worth the investment. I’ve slept on it only for 1 night so far but can’t express just how impressed I am with it. It looks and feels like a high quality product in every way. Reflex Pillow’s 14-day money back guarantee is also comforting.

Features

Next-generation cooling technology, designed specifically for active Canadian lifestyles. The channeled top layer of graphite latex foam works with the cooling gel layer below, acting as a thermal superhighway. Excess heat is transported quickly away from your body towards open-air channels where heat and body moisture can escape.

Sleep better by sleeping longer. Recore’s™ motion isolating comfort layer increases the number of uninterrupted sleep cycles you experience overnight, giving you as much restorative rest as possible. Not only does it reduce motion ripples across the bed surface, it’s also designed to cushion, contour, and relieve pressure around your joints and muscles.

Supporting you and your body at night helps you achieve greater results during the day. Recore’s™ three layers of performance foam are calibrated to a firmness fit for side, back, and stomach sleepers. The support system is designed to provide overall structural integrity, while also encouraging proper spinal alignment by preventing excessive sinkage.

A healthy sleep surface is clean, hypoallergenic, and odourless. Recore’s™ washable top cover contains antimicrobial silver thread to resist and minimize microbial buildup. Beneath the cover, the allergen-free latex delivers the same responsive comfort and durability as natural latex without creating or triggering allergic reactions.

My Recore Mattress Findings

Starting from the top, the stretch knit cover provides for maximum contouring and breathability. It also has a zipper so you can remove and wash it.

zippered coverThe Recore has just the right amount of sink to it so that it’s truly versatile enough for any sleeping postion. It’s also easy to switch positions at night given the top layer of foam is very responsive.

Here’s a look a how much my 14lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress.

Here’s another view to show you sinkage and how much edge support you can expect.

This mattress has a zippered cover which is common for roll packed mattresses but it is positioned so that you don’t have to lift up the mattress to access it. This makes it much easier to remove and wash if you need to. Although, I strongly recommend a mattress protector.

In the video below I show you how much motion transfer to expect on the mattress. As you can see the other bowling ball hardly moves but the one that I dropped actually has some bounce which is rare for a foam mattress.

When you unzip the cover you will see that the top layer of foam has some holes in it which provides more breathability and air flow.

Here’s a closer look without the fire sock on

Here’s a side view of the layering. The middle layer is the cooling gel layer followed by the base support foam.

Here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. The graphite latex top layer is the most responsive and the layer of cooling gel foam below it provides great pressure relief. The base layer is standard and provides a stable surface.

My Recore Bed Recommendation

The Recore mattress is a perfect choice for someone new to memory foam. You get all the pressure relieving benefits of foam but without the drawbacks of sleeping hot. Without springs you don’t have to worry about motion transfer either. With this mattress, there’s really no reason you would need or want springs.

I highly recommend this mattress to couples that have different sleep positions and have problems with partner disturbance at night. The Recore will certainly solve that problem. If it’s been a while since you have been in the market for a new mattress, you will be pleasantly suprised at how far foam technology has come and you get it all in the Recore.

The Recore mattress is priced as follows:

  • Twin/Twin XL: $749
  • Full: $899
  • Queen: $999
  • King: $1,199
  • California King: $1,299

Trial:

The Recore mattress comes with a 120-night trial. If you are not satisfied with your mattress for any reason, you can return it for a full refund minus shipping costs.

Warranty:

The Recore mattress is backed by a 15-year warranty. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, including indentations over 1 inch (2 inches with commercial or institutional use) for the first 10 years of the warranty period and 2 inches (3 inches with commercial or institutional use) for the final 5 years of the warranty window.

To file a warranty claim, you will need to contact Recore customer service and provide photos of the defect. If your claim is approved, Recore will repair or replace your mattress at no additional cost.

Please note that the warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, abuse, or normal wear and tear.

Eucalypso Eucalyptus Sheets Review

Eucalypso Sheets

I recently received a set of Eucalypso sheets for free to review. These sheets are made with Tencel fibers that have multiple benefits. They are more breathable than cotton, sleep cooler, are moisture-wicking and super smooth. A queen set currently retails for $169 before any discounts. Tencel sheets are great for people the sleep hot or sweat in their sleep. These sheets have a silky look and feel.

Overview of Eucalypso Sheets

You can order these sheets direct from their website. Shipping takes about a week to arrive at your door. When you get them they will arrive in a box like this. With each set you get a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. You can order more pillowcases individually if needed.

Eucalypso Box

The packaging is fantastic. These sheets would make an awesome wedding gift or even a housewarming gift.

boxHere’s a quick video overview of the sheets.

How Much Do Eucalypso Sheets Cost?

Below are the most recent prices as listed on their website before any discounts.

[table id=46 /]

My Eucalypso Sheets Findings

These sheets were created in New York City and are milled in Austria. Eucalypso donations a portion of their proceeds to the Nature Conservancy. As I mentioned in the video, Tencel is made in a closed loop process. Basically, 98% of the chemical used to dissolve the wood pulp and make the fiber, N-methylmorpholine N-oxide, can be reused so it is a relatively eco-friendly process.

How do these sheets feel? A quality Tencel fabric such as Eucalypso will have a silky feel and is light and airy. Here’s a picture of the sheet right out of the box. Notice how it shines.

Tencel Fabric

Here’s a picture of one of the pillowcases where you can see more detail of the stitching. These sheets look just like cotton sheets but have a much silkier feel.

My Eucalypso Recommendation

These sheets are perfect for people that live in warm climates or just tend to sleep hot at night. Their ability to wick away moisture will help keep you comfortable all night. You can wash these sheets just like normal cotton sheets but I wouldn’t recommend bleaching them. If you are looking for a smooth silky sheet that sleeps cool, check out Eucalypso.

Purple 4 Mattress Review

Purple Mattress

Purple discontinued the Hybrid 2, Hybrid Premier 3, and Hybrid Premier 4 mattresses in early 2023. The company replaced these mattresses with three new collections: Essential, Premium, and Luxe. Each collection has three mattresses in them.

The Essential collection is the most affordable, and the Luxe collection is the most expensive. The Premium collection is in the middle.

Purple said that it discontinued the Hybrid 2, Hybrid Premier 3, and Hybrid Premier 4 mattresses to simplify its product lineup and focus on its new collections. The company also said that the new collections offer better value for customers.

If you are looking for a Purple mattress, I recommend checking out the new Essential, Premium, and Luxe collections. The company offers a 100-night sleep trial on all of its mattresses, so you can try one out before you buy it.

The Purple 4 mattress is the premiere luxury model from Purple. It has 4 inches of their signature smart grid technology on top and below that are pocket springs that provide extra bounce and more contouring. It is surrounded by a foam encasement for superior edge support. I was just as excited to try this mattress as I was the original Purple over 2 years ago. In short, this is the ultimate side sleeper mattress. You will experience an almost weightless feeling on this mattress. If you are only an occasional side sleeper or more of a back sleeper, I would check out the Purple 3 mattress review.

Unboxing the Purple 4

Unlike the Original Purple, the Purple 4 comes in a box the size of the mattress. Here’s the box that my queen size came in:

Purple Mattress Box

Here’s a picture of the mattress out of the box

Purple mattress out of the box

Overview of the Purple 4 Bed

This mattress along with the Purple 2 and 3 are more of an evolution of the Original Purple. What sets these models apart is that they include a pocket coil system instead of foam. Despite having springs they still contain motion incredibly well.

Here’s a video overview with me on the Purple 4. The cover of this mattress stretches to work with the mattress. I also highly recommend the Purple Sheets and Purple Mattress Protector because they are also stretchy and breathable. They also have a heavier duty elastic band to keep the bedding from slipping off the mattress.

Ordering the Purple 4 Bed

You can only get this mattress exclusively through their website. Unlike the Original Purple, this mattress does not come compressed. Instead Purple offers free white glove delivery in the 48 contiguous states. This is important because this mattress is heavy. Here’s the size and how much the Purple 4 mattress weighs:

My Purple 4 Mattress Findings

This is a mattress that you really sink into. In fact, it is the plushest among the entire Purple mattress line. Below is a photo showing how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress.

This is a very bouncy mattress as well but not in a bad way. You get lots of quick recovery with the smart grid system and true bounce with the springs underneath but despite the bounciness, motion transfer is contained very well.

Here’s a video to illustrate this point.

Purple is one of the coolest sleeping mattresses on the market. If sleeping hot is your primary concern, you owe it to yourself to try the Purple. You don’t lose any of this benefit with more of the smart grid. Below is a video illustrating heat retention on the Purple 4. It was taken with my infrared camera. I don’t think this video quite does the mattress justice as heat is constantly dissipating through the grid keeping you cool.

Take a peek inside. Here’s an up-close shot of the inside of the Purple. Notice how the comfort grid system bounces back instantly. It’s almost like a jello type of responsiveness.

Here’s a peek inside the purple. I pulled back the foam border so you can see the spring system inside.

Inside Purple Mattress

My Purple 4 Recommendation

The Purple 4 is the ideal mattress for hot sleepers that want a luxury feel that is supportive and cool sleeping. I really like that they added springs to these models because it creates a seamless transition. People who have tried memory foam and can’t handle them because of sleeping hot owe it to themselves to give the purple a try.

Purple Cloud Pillow by Purple

Purple is known for it’s strange and innovative products so when they decided to release a more traditional type of pillow, I wasn’t sure what to think. This pillow doesn’t claim to be everything that it’s not. It’s customizable, yes, that’s true but not in a way that would bore you and while it is a more traditional take on the pillow, it doesn’t claim to be yet another down-alternative pillow, because it isn’t and it doesn’t feel like one. It doesn’t have to.

Overview of the Purple Cloud Pillow

Purple’s take on a more “Traditional Type” of pillow isn’t exactly traditional, which is why for Purple, it works. They don’t DO ordinary so there had to be something to this pillow that is uncommon. While it is a customizable or adjustable pillow, their approach is different when compared to how others in the industry choose to execute this type of product. Most adjustable pillows mean you pull a zipper to take out or put stuffing in. In Purple’s case, no amount of fill ever leaves the pillow. Instead, the firmness can be changed by pulling two zippers either open or closed. When both zippers are closed, the pillow has a firmer feel. When they are open, it has a softer feel.

For those who aren’t entirely convinced, the pillow comes with a 100-Night Trial and for those who choose to commit, it also comes with a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

It retails for $49 on their site and considering the brand and the feature of customization, it’s a really fair price. They could have asked for more, given the overall company reputation, but it’s nice they stayed within the realm of more-or-less middle class affordability.

Construction of the Purple Cloud Pillow

The Purple Cloud Pillow is composed of “interlocking denier poly fiber puff balls.” Don’t let the vocabulary sway you though. This is just Purple being unique and poetic with their wording. This is the industry standard pillow fill used in most non-down pillows that aren’t made of foam. Then again, I’m not an engineer and this poly fiber might be more special and specific to the pillow’s function than I’m aware of.

The cover is made of 60% Lyocell and 40% Nylon. It’s designed to be thermoregulating and moisture-wicking. It comes in only one size of 26” X 18” and while this was fine for me, it might not do the trick for larger people, as it is kind of standard. Too standard for Purple standards. It weighs 3.6 lbs and while that already sounds like too much, it’s actually crazy light. Light and fluffy like a cloud. I’ve tested quite a few pillows and this one is among those that weighed the least.

My Purple Plush Pillow Findings

I was absolutely stunned to find that the pillow isn’t just a gimmick. It seems too good to be true: a pillow whose loft is adjustable without needing to remove or add any filling. But how can that be? The best way I can explain the function of this pillow is to compare it to a closed bag filled with air.

The more air it has inside, the more compressed it’ll be so the firmer the bag will feel overall. The less air it has inside, the less compressed it’ll be so the softer the bag will feel if you were to lay or press on it. Despite the fact that this is a pretty simple concept that would make sense to most people, when it came to the application of it in the actual pillow itself, I was surprised the airflow, which is regulated by the opening or closing of zippers, made a difference in how the pillow felt. Structurally, it makes sense it would work but we’re not talking about a closed plastic bag filled with air, we’re talking about a pillow, something that requires airflow. I guess that’s where the engineers come in. So does it make a difference? Yes. Opening the zippers did in fact make it softer and closing them did make it firmer.

As for the other elements of the pillow and product overall, I give it an A+ all around. The packaging was discreet at the door but loud upon opening. I appreciate the branding effort Purple puts into their products (the bold color, the large font typeface, etc) and customer experience overall. The pillow cover material is lovely. It has a bright white color, a luxurious sheen and a soft pleasant touch. The zippers are premium quality, not something one has to fear will break easily.

I found it to be more supportive than a down pillow and more firmer than one too. For someone who needs solid neck support, I’m not 100% this will be enough but then again, I have more neck and shoulder spasms than anyone I know so I can’t deny that my disposition calls for some extra TLC.

As a side note, the pillow is FULLY washable which is a really nice feature.

My Purple Cloud Pillow Recommendation

After having slept on the Purple Plush Pillow for about a week now, I have to say that I like it quite a lot. The ability to customize the loft by way of pulling two zippers is pretty incredible for someone who has changing needs or if it’s meant to serve as a gift. I like a softer feeling pillow and this one suits me just fine. The only thing I’m uncertain of is it’s thermoregulation. I have slept hot a few nights in a row with this pillow so I’m not sure what to make of it. Unfortunately when it comes to that, that’s something in which results do vary but I do like the pillow and I’m not looking to give it away anytime soon.

Logan and Cove: Exclusive Comfort at an Incredible Value

Logan and Cove Mattress

The Logan & Cove mattress is a hybrid mattress that combines the best of both worlds: the pressure relief and cooling comfort of foam with the support and durability of coils. It has a medium-firm feel, making it a good option for most sleepers.

The Logan & Cove mattress is made with five layers of premium materials:

  • A tufted pillow top made with a silk-blend material for breathability and lightness
  • A layer of Cooling Gel Comfort Foam to dissipate body heat and contour to the body
  • A layer of Cooling Gel Memory Foam for even more plush comfort
  • A layer of minicoils and transitional polyfoam to provide additional cushioning and support
  • A support core made with steel coils

The Logan & Cove mattress is handcrafted and hand-finished in Canada. It comes with a 365-night trial and a 15-year warranty.

The Logan & Cove mattress is a good value for the price, especially compared to other hybrid mattresses on the market. It is also a good option for sleepers who are looking for a mattress that is both comfortable and supportive.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the Logan & Cove mattress:

Pros:

  • Medium-firm feel that is good for most sleepers
  • Hybrid construction that combines the best of foam and coils
  • Cooling gel foam layers to help regulate body temperature
  • Handcrafted and hand-finished in Canada
  • 365-night trial and 15-year warranty
  • Good value for the price

Cons:

  • Some sleepers may find the mattress to be too soft or too firm
  • The mattress is not as responsive as some other hybrid mattresses

Overall, the Logan & Cove mattress is a good option for sleepers who are looking for a comfortable and supportive mattress at a reasonable price.

The Logan and Cove mattress is an online mattress-in-a-box company that is exclusive to Canada. This is a mattress that includes springs and foam, also known as a hybrid mattress that has a medium firm feel and comes with a 15-year warranty. This is one of the few mattresses that comes out of the box with a pillow top. A queen size currently retails for $999 Canadian which is a tremendous deal. It also comes with a 120 night trial with free delivery and returns taking away all the pain points of purchasing a mattress.

Overview of the Logan and Cove Mattress

Below is a video overview of the Logan & Cove. You’ll notice that it has an actual pillow top. I haven’t seen many of these that come in a box let alone one that sells in Canada.

Logan and Cove is a Canadian company and they made an intentional decision to only sell to Canadian residents. This mattress is also made in Canada.

Construction of the Logan and Cove Mattress

Below are the construction specifications of the Logan and Cove according to their website.

A – Eucalyptus-derived Fiber Top Cover
Silky smooth and wicks moisture away

B – Silk Blend Pillow-Top Fill
Temperature regulating and breathable

C – 1” Cooling Gel Foam
Dissipates heat while it cradles your body

D – 1” Contouring Eco Foam
E – 2” Supportive Eco Foam

Cushioned contouring support

F – Individually Pocketed Coils
Adaptive, responsive, motion isolating support

My Logan and Cove Findings

In terms of firmness, the Logan and Cove is slightly on the firmer end of the spectrum. Even though it has a pillow top, you won’t sink into this mattress too much.

Here’s a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress. As you can see there’s not too much sink. This makes the mattress easy to move around on. The pillow top also has a quick recovery so you won’t get that stuck feeling.

Logan and Cove Sink

In terms of motion transfer, the Logan and Cove is designed with a pocket coil spring system. These springs act independently which isolate motion. The added pillow top will also help isolate motion

Here’s a video to illustrate the point.

Does the Logan and Cove Sleep Hot? You would think with a pillow top you can expect more heat retention. But that’s not the case with this mattress. It could be the eucalyptus fiber derived cover and the silk blend fill in the pillow top that help but I think it’s the fact that the pillow top isn’t too thick. Some pillow tops can be 3-4 inches thick which makes you really sink in and get surrounded. With this mattress you won’t feel the pillow top surrounding you too much.

Here’s a video that illustrates heat retention on this mattress. For context, it seems to behave similarly to many of the spring hybrid mattresses I have reviewed. Coil systems just breathe more than an all foam bed which helps tremendously.

My Logan and Cove Recommendation

There are plenty of all foam online mattress brands out there but this is the only Canadian brand that I have found that ships to Canada, comes delivered conveniently in a box and gives you a true pillow top feel. I recommend the Logan and Cove for sleepers looking for a traditional mattress feel that is just slightly on the firmer end of the spectrum. Hot sleepers will also enjoy this mattress.

Blanquil Weighted Blanket: Stunning Sleep Solution or Risky Choice?

blanquil review

What is a BlanQuil blanket?

A BlanQuil blanket is a type of weighted blanket that is made with a special type of filling called microbeads. Microbeads are small, lightweight, and very dense, which makes them ideal for use in weighted blankets. BlanQuil blankets are also designed to be breathable and moisture-wicking, making them comfortable to use in all seasons.

Negatives of weighted blankets

While weighted blankets have many potential benefits, there are also some negatives that should be considered before using them:

  • Not suitable for everyone. Weighted blankets are not recommended for people with certain medical conditions, such as sleep apnea, asthma, claustrophobia, or circulatory problems. They are also not recommended for children under the age of 3.
  • Can be uncomfortable. Some people find weighted blankets to be too heavy or uncomfortable to use. This is especially true if you are not used to sleeping with a heavy blanket.
  • Can be expensive. Weighted blankets can be more expensive than traditional blankets.

Do doctors recommend weighted blankets?

Some doctors do recommend weighted blankets for people with certain conditions, such as anxiety and insomnia. However, it is important to talk to your doctor before using a weighted blanket, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions.

Do weighted blankets actually work?

There is some scientific evidence to suggest that weighted blankets can be effective for improving sleep quality and reducing anxiety. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.

Overall, weighted blankets can be a safe and effective way to improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety for some people. However, it is important to talk to your doctor before using a weighted blanket, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions.

Overview of The Blanquil Blanket

The Blanquil Quilted Weighted Blanket is designed to maximize your sleep and make you feel at ease. Weighted blankets are known to offer a snug experience similar to that of a hug. This light pressure is known to relieve stress and anxiety and promote deeper sleep.

It’s offered in 15lbs and 20lbs and a simple calculation will help you decipher which is most suitable for you based on your body weight.

For adults between 100 – 140lb it is suggested to get the 15lb and for anything more, they suggest the 20lb blanket. The calculation goes that the blanket should be approximately 10% of your body weight.

blanquil weighted blanket branded packaging

No matter the weight, the blanket is priced at $169.00. They do however offer discounts to Military Service members and First Responders for their efforts and sacrifices they made for the country.

Blanquil has a 60-day return policy and offers a 5-year warranty. and the item must be returned with the original packaging and no damages. Despite this generous return period, Blanquil will not cover the cost of shipping.

 Construction of The Blanquil Blanket

The Blanquil Quilted Weighted Blanket has a removable cover so that you can stay cool in summer but also stay warm in the winter. Both portions of the blanket are machine washable.

blanquil weighted blanket rolled up

The Cover is made up of Ultra Plus Micro Fiber: Outer 100% Polyester Velvet, Lining 100% Polyester, Fill 100% Polyester Batting.

The inner blanket is made up of 100% cotton and the filling is made of Glass Pellets that are Eco-Friendly.

The blanket is available in some awesome colors: Grey, Taupe, Charcoal, Navy, Pearl and Lilac.

Its dimensions are 48” X 74” as it’s designed to be suitable for one person only. Should a couple want to share, they’d need two separate blankets to be able to do so.

Blanquil Blanket Findings

I noticed that when weighted blankets first came onto the scene that people were paying a premium. While the premium cost still tends to apply most of the time, there are other options out there but remember that more often that not that you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s worth going for what seems like the more “extravagant” item, knowing that it’s made well and that it’ll stay intact. Sure, maybe you can find an item for a fraction of the price but can you imagine all of those pebbles inside the blanket coming undone? I don’t even want to picture it. I suggest working with a company that stands by its quality and that also is willing to replace any defective items. For those offering wholesale rates, they may not be able to make the same promise.

blanquil blanket removable outer cover

The Blanquil blanket is different from the first weighted blanket I’ve ever tried. For one, it looked MUCH nicer. It wasn’t just a bare weighted blanket. It had a lovely outer cover and it was great for the colder months. While traditionally velvet is made from silk, there are synthetic alternatives, like polyester velvet and that’s exactly the velvet we’re dealing with here when it comes to the exterior layer. The warm velvet cover that it came packaged in was definitely a nice touch. In terms of the consumers experience with the item, the quality of the texture initially leaves us with a very positive first impression.

Despite my initial impression however, there was one thing curios about it: it’s size. It’s smaller than the first weighted blanket I’ve tried. Much smaller. On Blanquil’s website, the blanket comes in different variations when it comes to color, fabric type, texture and weight but it all comes in the same dimensions.

blanquil weighted blanket duvet loops

If you’re looking for a weighted blanket for someone who is petite, either short or light in weight, or a teenager, this might be the best buy. It could also be a great item for those who have experience with weighted blankets but prefer a smaller one, either because they are one or both of the types of individuals I described above. Then there is another possibility: some prefer to only cover a certain part of their body with a weighted blanket.

For example, I don’t like my entire body being covered but that’s a personal preference. You might feel differently. Due to being prone to anxiety, I already have a feeling of heaviness that I carry in my chest on the day to day. That being the case, I like having blankets of this type sit below my waist. Can it reduce anxiety? Sure. But how it does so can also be a different experience for everyone.

Who else is this blanket good for? An average-sized individual (with regular weight or not too far from it) that sleeps with a partner. When I did sleep with a partner, my previous weighted blanket took up too much space. One with these measurements could have been the better alternative.

blanquil logo

The shifting glass pellets that create the blanket’s weight have been getting a bad wrap. From what I’ve observed in the marketplace, most weighted blankets are designed with the same stitching pattern in terms of how large the separate compartments are next to one another. While it’s possible that something more well distributed could be created, one also has to consider at what cost? There is some potential in the marketplace to still take over the weighted blanket space but it’d have to address most of the major concerns. At the price that will require (a more intricate stitching pattern and/or a different material that provides the weight needed), it might as well be marketed as solely a luxury item. This weighted blanket from Blanquil is similar to other weighted blankets, in that all weighted blankets are known for this: they’re known for their weight, as that’s what they’re designed to do, carry weight, and they’re known for their shifting pellets. These pellets are small, round and subtle and of course they will shift with you, they’re supposed to conform to your body’s space to provide that “snug” feeling. They’re not made of metal or tin. The shifting of the pellets is not loud or as exaggerated as some reviewers claim.

There is one thing that rubbed me wrong however about this product and that’s the way it arrived. There was a piece of paper attached to the package with the word “DROPSHIP,” and I felt that made the item simply unappealing because it revealed to me that it’s not entirely original. I don’t know HOW a mistake like this can go unnoticed and I think better quality control really needs to be in place.

My Blanquil Weighted Blanket Recommendation

As a result of all of my digging, I was able to isolate the biggest complaint and that was that Blanquil doesn’t cover return shipping due to the weight of the product. This means that many people find themselves dishing out approx $50 to return the item but of course even that number varies based on where they live and where it’s being shipped back to.

First of all, it’s ridiculous to state that individuals can get a “full refund,” then expect those customers to happily pay exorbitant amounts of money to return ship your item. Of course they’re going to be pissed about it. Whether the consumer realizes the return policy before or after purchasing your product is irrelevant. That return won’t exactly fulfil the typical standards of what the majority knows as  a “full refund.” When an individual has to pay extra to get that item back to you, that’s not a full refund. That extra money spent must then be negated from whatever you refund them. So to see things put in that manner, feels a little deceptive.

In terms of how this works for the company, it may be better to simply offer a non refundable item. That removes that problem from the equation entirely, the company maintains absolute transparency (“Hey, look. This is just the best we can do.”) and this way, every consumer is aware of what’s involved. It’s at least much more honest.

But there is still one more option. This is the way I’d do it:

  • Offer what’s called a “partial return”
  • Provide an already-paid-for shipping label

(Everyone appreciates pre-paid labels, they’re comforting. Even if we’re not getting ALL of our money back, we appreciate that a company strives to make the process less painful for us.)

  • Since the cost of most of the items listed on the website aren’t vast in difference, calculate the average cost of shipping per item and deduct this number from the total.
  • Bam!

I suggest that they do that or something similar because if the biggest complaint people have is your return policy, it’s something that needs to be addressed if you want people’s perception of your brand to change and be elevated.

By the way, if the most common complaint is your return policy, you should also consider that a compliment to the actual items you sell.

Oddly enough, you can also purchase the item through Amazon, where Prime members get free shipping and also free returns with this item, although that may vary depending on your location so be sure to double check.

Regardless of my criticism (and I do genuinely hope some of it is taken constructively), I do recommend this item. It’s a well-made high quality item.

The Blanquil Cooling Blanket

The BlanQuil cooling blanket is an updated version of the original BlanQuil weighted blanket. While the original blanket provided users with a calming and therapeutic sleeping experience, the new cooling blanket takes things a step further by incorporating innovative technology that regulates body temperature and provides a cool and comfortable sleeping environment.

One of the main differences between the two blankets is the materials used to make them. The original BlanQuil weighted blanket is made with a soft and cozy microfiber fabric, while the cooling blanket is made with a cooling fabric that wicks away moisture and promotes airflow.

Additionally, the cooling blanket contains high-density micro-bead technology that provides extra cooling properties, absorbing and releasing body heat to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. In contrast, the original weighted blanket is filled with glass beads that provide a calming, therapeutic effect by applying gentle pressure to the body.

Another difference between the two blankets is their cleaning and maintenance. The original weighted blanket is machine washable but needs to be air-dried to maintain its quality, while the cooling blanket can be both machine washed and dried.

In summary, while both the original BlanQuil weighted blanket and the new BlanQuil cooling blanket offer unique benefits, the cooling blanket takes things a step further by incorporating innovative technology that promotes airflow and regulates body temperature. So, if you’re looking for a comfortable and refreshing sleeping experience, the cooling blanket may be the better option for you.

Nighslee Mattress Review

Nighslee Mattress Review

Nighslee is a brand that offers memory foam mattresses and other bedding products. Here’s a brief overview of the Nighslee mattress:

  1. Composition and Materials:

    • Nighslee mattresses typically utilize a multi-layered memory foam design. They promote the use of their patented AirGel™ memory foam, which is designed to be cooling, breathable, and pressure-relieving.
  2. Cooling Technology:

    • One of the key selling points of the Nighslee mattress is its focus on sleeping cool. The AirGel™ technology aims to provide a cooler sleeping experience than traditional memory foam by ensuring better airflow and heat dissipation.
  3. Firmness and Comfort:

    • Nighslee mattresses are generally designed to offer a balanced level of comfort and support. Their mattresses cater to a wide range of sleepers, offering contouring for pressure relief while also maintaining spinal alignment.
  4. Cover:

    • Their mattresses typically come with a removable and washable cover, which is a bonus for those who prioritize easy cleaning and maintenance.
  5. Certifications:

    • Nighslee’s foams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they are made without harmful chemicals or heavy metals and have low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions.
  6. Consumer Experience:

    • Trial Period and Returns: Nighslee usually offers a sleep trial period, allowing customers to test the mattress and return it if not satisfied.
    • Warranty: They also provide a warranty on their mattresses, but the specifics can vary, so it’s important to check the details.
    • Shipping: Nighslee mattresses are typically shipped compressed and rolled in a box for convenience.
  7. Online Presence and Direct-to-Consumer Model:

    • Much like many other modern mattress brands, Nighslee operates using a direct-to-consumer model, selling primarily online. This approach allows them to bypass traditional retail markups and offer competitive pricing.
    • They usually have a user-friendly website with detailed product specifications, customer reviews, FAQs, and other resources.
  8. Reviews:

    • Nighslee mattresses tend to get positive reviews for comfort, value for money, and their cooling features. However, as with any product, individual experiences can vary, so potential buyers should always check recent customer feedback.

If you’re considering purchasing a Nighslee mattress or any other brand, it’s essential to check the most up-to-date reviews, company policies, and product details directly from the company’s official website or trusted retailers.

The Nighslee mattress is one of the best values when it comes to a no-nonsense foam mattress online. The reason being is that after current discounts you can get a king size mattress for $495. That includes free shipping to you and a free return if need be. So, for all those budget mattress shoppers out there, this is truly a steal. This mattress comes with a standard 100-night sleep trial where you can sleep on it for that amount of time and if not happy, return it for free.

There’s no ultra fancy technology in this mattress but for people who are looking for an inexpensive foam mattress that is versatile to accommodate most sleepers, this is an excellent choice.

Overview of the Nighslee Mattress

Below is a video overview of the Nighslee mattress. As you can see it has a nice stretch knit cover to give you maximum contouring from the foam underneath.

Construction of the Nighslee Mattress

Here are the construction details that I found on their website. Overall this is typical for construction of an online foam mattress. What sets it apart though is the top layer which has tiny holes throughout for more breathability.

How Much Does the Nighslee Mattress Cost?

I’m amazed at how inexpensive this mattress is. You can get a king size for under $500!

My Nighslee Mattress Findings

Below you will see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. There is just enough sink to properly address shoulders and hips.

The top layer is a gel-infused foam that has tiny holes for a bit more breathability. It’s not a night and day difference from other foams but it does help a little.

nighslee mattress top layer

Here you can see each individual layer. This mattress is made in China. The layering is clean and well made. It recovered faster than I expected out of the box. Usually, mattresses shipped from China take a lot longer to recover.

Nighslee Mattress Layers

Here’s a side view showing contouring again. The top layer is where you will get most of the pressure relief.

Nighslee mattress sink

There’s basically no motion transfer with this mattress. It’s all foam and the top layer is soft enough to absorb the initial impact quickly.

Here’s another video showing how fast the mattress recovers and what you can expect for softness. Again, the top layer provides the majority of the pressure relief while the other two layers help with support.

My Nigshlee Mattress Recommendation

Although there’s nothing really groundbreaking about this mattress, what did take me a bit by surprise is what you get for the money. $495 for a king size mattress with this construction is about as good as you can get. There are other mattresses on the market with similar construction at this price point but the foam is not as good of quality and will feel much firmer. I expect this mattress to last just as long as others in the market for twice as much.

If you are used to sleeping on a medium-firm foam mattress and are looking for a replacement that won’t break the bank this is your mattress.

Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress Review

Serta perfect sleeper review scaled

Some of the key features of the Serta Perfect Sleeper series include:

  • Zoned comfort: The mattresses in the Perfect Sleeper series feature zoned comfort, which means that they are designed to provide different levels of support for different parts of your body. For example, the lumbar region of your spine may need more support than your shoulders. Zoned comfort helps to ensure that your entire body is properly supported throughout the night.
  • Pressure relief: The Perfect Sleeper mattresses are also designed to provide pressure relief, which is especially important for side sleepers and sleepers with chronic pain. Pressure relief helps to reduce the amount of pressure that is placed on your body, which can lead to a more comfortable and restful sleep.
  • Cooling technology: Many of the Perfect Sleeper mattresses also feature cooling technology, which helps to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night. Cooling technology is especially beneficial for sleepers who tend to get hot at night.

The Serta Perfect Sleeper series is a popular choice for sleepers of all types, and it offers a variety of different mattresses to choose from, so you can find the perfect one for your needs.

Here is a brief overview of some of the most popular mattresses in the Serta Perfect Sleeper series:

  • Serta Perfect Sleeper Hybrid: The Serta Perfect Sleeper Hybrid is a hybrid mattress that combines the best of both worlds: the support of a coil system with the comfort of memory foam. The Hybrid is a good choice for sleepers of all types, but it is especially popular with side sleepers and sleepers with chronic pain.
  • Serta Perfect Sleeper Innerspring: The Serta Perfect Sleeper Innerspring is a traditional innerspring mattress that offers excellent support and durability. The Innerspring is a good choice for budget-minded shoppers and sleepers who prefer a firmer feel.
  • Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress-in-a-Box: The Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress-in-a-Box is a convenient and affordable option for shoppers who want a high-quality mattress without the hassle of traditional mattress shopping. No matter what your needs are, there is a Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress that is right for you. With a variety of different models to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect mattress to help you get the best night’s sleep possible.

I sleep on a new mattress almost every other week and most of them are direct to consumer, online-only brands. Every now and then, I do get sent a review sample of a legacy brand such as Tempurpedic, Simmons or in this case the Serta Perfect Sleeper. Serta was founded in 1931 and is the largest mattress brand in the United States but the Perfect Sleeper brand was released 2 years before the Serta brand name was introduced. Many hotel chains use their mattresses including Hilton Worldwide and Wyndham Worldwide. They merged with the online brand, Tuft & Needle in 2018. There’s a lot to like about this mattress because they have almost a century of experience making mattresses and offer the same hassle-free returns as the online players.

Overview of the Renewed Night Mattress

Ordering the Serta Perfect Sleeper Renewed Night Mattress

You can order the Perfect Sleeper series mattresses directly through the Serta website or try it out at a local store by accessing their store locator. Ordering through the Serta site gets you free shipping, a 120 home trial, and free returns if you decide it’s not a good fit. Either way, you order the mattress does not come in a box. It will arrive full size and a delivery company will bring it into your house. The delivery company XPO logistics coordinated everything and it was very easy to schedule my delivery date and time window online. They also called when they were about 30 minutes away. It’s a good option if you don’t want to have to drag a mattress from your doorstep to your bedroom.

How Much Does the Serta Renewed Night Cost?

The cost depends on which model you choose. I received the 1 layer of memory foam version which retails for $899 in a queen size, this is their entry level model. If you want extra layers of foam, the cost increases. You can refer to their website for the most current pricing. Also, keep in mind that their price should be the same as that found in the stores.

Below are the construction specifications of the Renewed Night mattress 1 layer of foam model as listed on the Serta website. For this review, I received the Plush version.

CoolFeel™ Cover

A luxurious, breathable cover with a cool-to-the-touch sensation from technology that is plant-derived.

HeiQ Vblock™

An exclusive, anti-microbial technology found on the surface of the mattress kills 99.9% of bacteria on contact, keeping your mattress fresh and clean.

HexCloud™ Gel Memory Foam

Serta’s exclusive gel memory foam boasts unique geometric cut outs to deliver cool, contouring pressure relief for oh-so-relaxing sleep.

1000 Edition Custom Support™ Coil System

Individually wrapped coils deliver support and reduced motion transfer. This edition features Serta’s BestEdge® Foam Encasement technology—an extra-deep foam rail to help reduce edge roll-off and extend the sleep surface.

My Serta Renewed Night Findings

I figured that this mattress may skew firm and I was right which is why I chose the plush model. The cover is quilted so you get an extra layer of pressure relief but even so, if you go firm, I imagine it will be really firm. The plush version felt more like a medium to me. Here’s a photo of how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sunk into the mattress. When you lay down on the mattress you will sink into the quilted cover right away and it will cradle you while the foam layer provides most of the pressure relief and the springs provide the support.

renewed night sinkage

Here you can see how much my shoulders sink into the mattress while sleeping on my side.

I slept on this mattress for about 3 weeks before writing this review and there are a few things that really stood out with this mattress. Let’s start with the CoolFeel Cover. It incorporates phase change materials that are 53% bio-based content. In my experience, most phase change covers have a sort of stick feel to them and almost feel wet. That wasn’t the case with this mattress. I didn’t know it had phase change material until I looked up the details. The HeiQ Vblock is an antimicrobial technology applied to the cover to keep it fresh and to kill 99.9% of bacteria on contact. Although I still recommend a mattress protector, it’s nice to know there is an extra layer of protection.

Although this mattress has springs, they are barely noticeable. I didn’t feel my partner getting out of bed at night or tossing and turning. I’m not sure why that it but it can be largely explained by their use of pocked coils. check out the picture below where you can see the springs. I had to cut into the foam border to access them. The foam border is used to create a firmer edge so you won’t roll off the mattress at night.

The third feature that stood out was the unique design of the foam layer. They call this the HexCloud Gel memory foam.  It is designed for cooling and better pressure relief. I didn’t sink in like traditional foam and overall the mattress slept like a regular old-fashioned inner springs mattress without any foam. According to Serta, this new model of the Perfect Sleeper provides 40% better pressure relief than previous Perfect Sleeper models.

My Serta Perfect Sleeper Renewed Night Final Thoughts

Going with a legacy brand like Serta has many benefits. First, their free delivery into your house, 120-night trial, and free returns are the same or better than the popular online brands. They also have almost a century of mattress construction know-how. It was clear to me right away that they can add a lot of value to the mattress without adding cost. Since they are a manufacturer they can pass the savings directly to you, especially since they make so many mattresses to begin with. Normally phase change material, antimicrobial technology and a premium spring system would be an extra cost but you can get all this for under $900 in a queen size which makes it a phenomenal value.

I recommend the plush version of this mattress to people looking for a more medium feel. It has excellent lumbar support and really good pressure relief consider that they are only using one layer of foam. Because there aren’t multiple layers of foam on this model, it will naturally sleep cooler too.  It’s definitely time to take a look at the Perfect Sleeper lineup again.

Polysleep Pillow Review

polysleep pillow review

The Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow is yet another product in the galaxy of customizable pillows. It doesn’t look very different from other customizable pillows but what is different is the ventilated viscoelastic hybrid foam inside of it. Unlike many customizable pillows, this is not one that will leave behind any type of mess, being that you’re working with 4 separate pieces of foam to build the pillow to your liking. The Polysleep Pillow comes with a 30-night trial, meaning that if you aren’t fully satisfied with your purchase than Polysleep will refund you in full.

Overview of the Polysleep Pillow

Here’s a quick video overview of the pillow including unboxing:

The first thing that I like about the pillow is that it doesn’t contain a lot of little pieces. This can get messy whether you’re taking out a lot of foam or even just a little. Polysleep has 4 different layers inside of it, each made up of its own layer of foam. It’s sold at a super reasonable price which is $59 USD and I do believe that you’re getting your money’s worth. It’s made up of a hybrid memory foam which means it’s a newer generation of memory foam.

Construction of the Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow comes in one size which is 19″ x 26″. Just from a quick look, it seems to be within perfectly normal industry standards. Some pillows can be too long or too small, almost as if by accident like they JUST missed the mark. Not in this case. One size for their pillow is all they need, especially with the intention it was designed for, such as ease of use and personal customization.

The measurements of the 4 layers are:

  • 1 piece that measures 1”
  • 1 piece that measures 1 ¼”
  • 2 pieces that measure ¾”

The pillow has a 100% cotton sleeve on the outside, along with inner polyester microfiber inner layer to give it some volume and softness.  It has 400mg of microfiber fill to give it that cotton-cloud-like luxurious feel.

My Polysleep Pillow Findings

One of the things that confused me the most was what Polysleep meant when they classified their foam as “viscoelastic hybrid foam.” I was reading that foam is either viscoelastic, making it a memory foam, or it’s not, making it a hybrid foam or something else altogether, such as latex foam. But as with most things we don’t understand, all you have to do is ask. I spoke with Polysleep and I was educated about how we were dealing with a newer generation of memory foam. Memory foam was initially invented in the 60’s and while it had some positive properties, it had some negatives as well. For instance, most memory foams don’t react well to temperature but Polyleep’s is resistant to temperature change. It also withstands wear and tear much better than original memory foam since it has better density. The foam density is 3 lbs per square foot. The term “visco” means water-like and it would explain why it had an interesting wet-but-not-really feel. As juvenile as the made-up term is, it’s the best way I could possibly explain it. Let’s not forget the other part of the word “viscoelastic,” which is the elastic part. This pillow is malleable, meaning you can roll it and fold it but it’ll also bounce back almost instantly despite the pressure exerted on it.

One big negative for me is that the pillow is not washable by traditional method. The outer cover of the pillow also cannot be washed but it can be spot cleaned and it can also be machine dried, however only at a very low temperature.

This is fine for people who can afford, and don’t mind, to replace their pillow every couple of months but for people looking to hold onto something for a while, I’m not sure it’s ideal.

While the concept of the customizable pillow experience is not new, their hybrid foam does seem to be.

One recommendation that I have for Polysleep, which could be seen as really appealing on the consumer’s end, would be to devise a “cleaning kit” or cleaning guideline book to go along w/ the release of this or any pillow. While I’m aware that a majority of foams cannot be washed in the traditional way most of us are familiar with (aka, soap + water), apparently memory foam + hybrid foams can be cleaned via alternate methods but I did not have a chance to inquire about theirs.

When it comes to these newly released generations of foam, the company engineering the material really have ALL the power in how the general public will perceive it. I am talking about more than a good slogan. There is an opportunity to educate people on how to do things differently when it comes to materials that quite simply just did not exist before.

My Polysleep Pillow Recommendation

When I first saw the Polysleep Pillow I didn’t think I would be impressed. I am usually all about clever marketing and I love how companies can get creative when they share products with the mass public but I wasn’t exactly impressed or moved by theirs. Being told that a pillow can cater to every personality felt a little silly to me but I do understand what they were getting at. If it were to cater to “every sleeper,” sure, but the wording didn’t gauge much of a reaction from me. Regardless of what the marketing campaign has to say, that’s a criticism to their marketing department, not to their pillow and definitely not to their engineering team.

It’s such a cliche but the pillow does speak for itself. Actually, I was prepared to dislike your product but ended up actually liking it. I suppose it’s easy to think you’ve made up your mind about something only to then have it beg you to reconsider. What can I say? You win.
