Sealy Medina II Review: Spring Mattress, Plus the Hybrid Naming Confusion
The Sealy Posturepedic Medina II is officially the entry-level Posturepedic Spring model in Sealy’s current lineup: a 13-inch, medium-feel innerspring with individually encased PrecisionFit coils, a reinforced coil edge and a moisture-managing cover. There is one wrinkle shoppers should know about: some retailers also merchandise a 12-inch Medina II Medium Hybrid. Those are not the same construction.

Manufacturer and retailer specifications checked October 2026. Naming varies by retail channel, so compare the full construction name rather than “Medina II” alone.
Why are there Spring and Hybrid Medina II listings?
Sealy’s own current lineup describes Posturepedic Spring as “The Medina II” and Posturepedic Plus Hybrid as “The Paterson II.” That is the cleanest way to understand the national lineup.
At the same time, retailers such as Bedplanet, Living Spaces and others have current product pages for a Sealy Posturepedic Medina II 12-inch Medium Hybrid. Because both names are in the market, a shopper searching “Medina II review” can easily end up comparing two materially different mattresses.
Yawnder’s rule: treat the construction as authoritative. If the listing says 13-inch Spring, you are looking at the traditional Medina II. If it says 12-inch Hybrid with ComfortSense Gel Memory Foam, evaluate it as a hybrid—not as the same mattress with a different cover.
Official Medina II Spring: what you get
The current Sealy-direct Posturepedic Spring is a 13-inch mattress. The Medium Medina II uses individually encased PrecisionFit coils designed to provide targeted support while reducing the amount of movement that spreads through the mattress.
Current third-party construction specifications list a quilted stretch-knit cover with MoistureProtect and Surface-Guard treatments, SealyComfort foam, SealyComfort gel foam, SealySupport gel foam and an 8-inch PrecisionFit coil system over a 1-inch base foam. A queen is commonly listed around 736 coils.
The important characteristic is what is not here: this is not a thick memory-foam hybrid. It should feel more buoyant and easier to move on than Paterson II or the Elite Hybrids.
How the Medina II Spring should feel
The Medium Spring is aimed at shoppers who want balance without a plush sink. Its foam layers provide enough cushioning to keep the coil system from feeling hard, but the dominant sensation should remain springy and responsive.
That makes it a sensible starting point for back sleepers, combination sleepers and people who dislike the slow response of memory foam. Dedicated side sleepers with pronounced shoulder or hip pressure may prefer a softer model or a hybrid with a deeper comfort package.
What about the 12-inch Medina II Hybrid?
The retailer-sold Hybrid is a different proposition. Current listings describe a 12-inch Medium mattress with ComfortSense Gel Memory Foam, SealySupport Gel Foam, more than 700 individually wrapped PrecisionFit coils, a reinforced coil edge and a MoistureProtect cover with Surface-Guard technology.

That version will generally feel more contouring and less traditionally springy than the 13-inch Spring. If you are shopping that mattress, compare it directly with the Paterson II Hybrid, because Paterson II is Sealy’s official current Plus Hybrid model.
Motion isolation and edge support
Both constructions use individually wrapped coils rather than one interconnected spring network. That generally helps localize movement when a partner changes position. The Hybrid’s memory-foam layer should further dampen motion compared with the more responsive Spring, although Yawnder has not yet published instrument measurements for either exact Medina II configuration.
Both also use a reinforced coil perimeter. That is a useful feature for couples who need the full mattress width and for shoppers who sit on the edge of the bed frequently.
Cooling
The Spring has a natural advantage for shoppers who dislike heat buildup because there is less foam above the coil cavity. MoistureProtect is designed to wick moisture, but this is not the cold-to-touch SealyChill system used higher in Sealy’s lineup.
The Hybrid adds memory foam, which can retain more body heat, although the open coil core still provides more internal airflow than an all-foam mattress. Very hot sleepers should compare Medina II with the Elite models that include SealyChill cooling materials.

Medina II vs Paterson II
The Paterson II is the official next step up in Sealy’s current lineup. Paterson II moves into Posturepedic Plus Hybrid, adding a thicker gel-memory-foam comfort system while keeping PrecisionFit coils and a reinforced edge.
Choose Medina II Spring if you want lower cost, more bounce and less memory-foam sensation. Choose Paterson II if pressure relief and contouring matter more.
Medina II vs Albany II
The Albany II moves you into Sealy’s Elite collection. Albany II adds SealyChill cooling and the upgraded Elite support package. It costs more, but it is the more appropriate comparison if you want premium materials rather than simply a solid basic Posturepedic.
Price and value
Medina II is designed to compete on value. Current retailer pricing for the 12-inch Hybrid starts around the high hundreds for smaller sizes, while the 13-inch Spring commonly sells well below Sealy’s Plus and Elite ranges. Promotions vary substantially.
The right way to judge Medina II is not against luxury hybrids. Compare it with other mattresses around the same checkout price and ask whether you prefer its responsive coil feel, major-brand warranty and easier retail availability.

Common questions

How thick is the Medina II Spring? Sealy lists the current Posturepedic Spring profile at 13 inches.
How thick is the retailer Medina II Hybrid? Current retailer listings describe it as 12 inches.
What firmness is Medina II? The most common current Spring and Hybrid listings are Medium.
Is Medina II good for back sleepers? Medium Spring is a logical fit for many back sleepers because it emphasizes responsive support without a deep foam cradle.
Is Medina II good for side sleepers? Some side sleepers will be comfortable on the Medium, but people who need more shoulder and hip pressure relief should compare Paterson II or a softer Elite model.
Does Medina II work with an adjustable base? Current Spring and Hybrid listings indicate adjustable-base compatibility.
What is the warranty? Sealy lists a 10-year limited warranty and a 90-night trial for direct mattress purchases. Retailer policies can differ.
Yawnder’s bottom line
Medina II is the simplest current Sealy to understand once you ignore the retailer naming mess: Sealy itself positions Medina II as its entry-level Posturepedic Spring. That is the version we would prioritize for shoppers who want a responsive, supportive mattress without a thick memory-foam feel. If you encounter the 12-inch Medina II Hybrid at a retailer, treat it as a separate hybrid model and compare it directly with Paterson II before buying.
