Our verdict: a firm mattress with two sides
The Plank Firm Luxe is a flippable hybrid made for people who prefer a flat, very firm sleep surface. Its two sides give you a choice between firm and extra firm; neither is intended to feel plush. Consider it if a typical medium-firm mattress feels too soft. If you need deep cushioning at the shoulder and hip, try both sides before buying.
I have tried the Plank Firm Luxe in our showroom. Comfort depends on your body and sleep position, so the most useful comparison is to lie on each side in your usual position for several minutes.
Construction: what is inside?
The Luxe combines foam with a six-inch core of individually encased coils. The extra-firm side has a thinner quilted surface and high-density foam; the firm side adds a thicker quilted surface and a layer of responsive comfort foam. A GlacioTex cooling cover is an optional upgrade. The manufacturer lists the current mattress at about 13 inches; dimensions and cover options can change.

Firmness and sleep positions
Plank describes the firm side as roughly 7.5–8 out of 10 and the extra-firm side as roughly 9.5–10. Those are the manufacturer’s estimates, not measurements from our showroom. Your weight, preferred position and what you are used to all affect how firm it feels.
- Back sleepers: The firm side is a sensible starting point if you like a level surface; check that your lower back feels supported without a gap.
- Stomach sleepers: The flat feel may suit people who dislike a sinking midsection. Compare both sides for comfort.
- Side sleepers: The extra-firm side may put too much pressure on shoulders and hips. Try the firm side or a softer mattress if you need more cushioning.
- Combination sleepers: The responsive construction may make changing position easier, but the best side is the one that also cushions your most common position.
Cooling, movement and edge support
Temperature: The coil core provides space for airflow, while the optional cover is designed to feel cool on contact. Neither feature guarantees a cool night: sheets, bedding and room temperature matter.
Motion: Individually encased coils can help limit movement spreading across the bed, although a firm, responsive hybrid can still transmit motion. Couples should test it together, especially if either person wakes easily.
Edges and mobility: The firm surface can make it easier to move across the bed. Sit and lie near the edge yourself; edge comfort depends on weight and position.

Plank’s direct website currently describes a 365-night trial with a 30-day minimum; these are different seller policies. Confirm eligibility, fees and terms with the seller before ordering. Plank lists a limited lifetime warranty; review its conditions and any prorated charges for the purchase date.
