Loom & Leaf Mattress — 8 Years Later

After nearly a decade on the Loom & Leaf, here’s the honest, lived-in verdict. Short version: it’s held up. Softer than day one, still supportive, and still a pressure-relief machine. Warmer than hybrids, yes — but workable with airflow tweaks.

Durability

Mild top-layer softening; no deep body impressions. Edge integrity is better than most all-foam peers. No “bottoming out” with two sleepers.

Comfort & Support

Pressure relief remains excellent. Alignment is consistent. The feel drifted from ~medium-firm to closer to medium — great for side-sleeping.

Cooling

Still runs warmer than coil hybrids. A breathable protector + lighter bedding + room airflow kept nights comfortable enough.

Motion Isolation

Still a strength. Partner movement is barely noticeable — late returns don’t rock the boat.

Performance Ratings — Year 1 vs Year 8 (1–10 scale)

Year 1 Year 8

Ratings reflect long-term personal use; they’re not lab measurements.

Firmness Shift (Relaxed Firm model)
13 57 911 Year 1 ≈ 6.5/10 (medium-firm) Year 8 ≈ 5.5/10 (medium)

Expected softening with use. Support remained adequate; feel became more side-sleeper friendly.

My Final Verdict After 8 Years

The Loom & Leaf proved itself: durable, pressure-relieving, and steady on motion isolation. It runs a bit warm, yes — that’s the nature of dense foams — but the comfort tradeoff paid off nightly. If you love memory foam’s contour and want something that still feels substantial years later, it’s an easy recommend. If you sleep hot or want bounce, compare against a quality hybrid before you pull the trigger.

Yawnder Sleep Guide

What is the Loom & Leaf Mattress?

The Loom and Leaf mattress was introduced in 2015 by the Saatva company (founded 2010). It was designed to provide a luxury memory foam option for people who prefer memory foam but don’t want to give up the support associated with traditional innerspring builds. It features multiple layers of memory foam and a cooling gel layer to help regulate body temperature while sleeping. One unique aspect is an environmentally-friendly angle: foam made with renewable plant-based materials and a manufacturing process designed to be sustainable. Since launch, it’s received positive reviews from customers and industry experts; in 2016 it was named “Best Memory Foam Mattress.” Today, it remains a popular pick for a high-quality, eco-friendly memory foam mattress.

Core Construction

Approx. 12" all-foam build: organic cotton cover, zoned spinal alignment memory foam, gel-infused memory foam, and a high-density polyfoam base.

Firmness Options

Two choices: Relaxed Firm & Firm. The design emphasizes pressure relief and spinal alignment with minimal changes since debut.

Design Notes

Organic cotton cover, cooling gel for temperature moderation, and a botanical sealant intended to resist bacteria and mold.

Layered Construction (Illustrative)

Organic Cotton Cover Breathable, soft hand
Spinal Alignment Layer (Zoned Memory Foam) ~2–3" cradle for shoulders/hips
Gel-Infused Memory Foam ~5–6" contour + temp moderation
High-Density Polyfoam Base ~4–5" structure & stability

Exact thicknesses can vary by production batch; above is a typical profile described in your source text.

Ordering the Loom & Leaf Mattress

The ordering process is slightly different than a typical bed-in-a-box because this mattress does not come in a box. Enter your zip code to confirm delivery, choose size, and decide if you need a box spring/foundation (not required if your slats or box spring are adequate). If in doubt about your existing support, it’s wise to buy one to avoid damaging the mattress on an uneven foundation.

Delivery is scheduled: you’ll get a call in a few days to pick a date, then a narrower window a few days before delivery so you’re not tethered all day. The movers called 15 minutes before arrival (nice touch). Loom & Leaf can haul away your old mattress if desired. A split queen foundation delivered with the mattress was sturdy and well made.

My Loom & Leaf Mattress Findings

The Loom and Leaf is a heavy-duty, substantial mattress. I didn’t feel like I was going to bottom out when I plopped down—that’s thanks to a dense memory foam build (noted as a 5-lb memory foam base layer). It’s listed as 12" deep, but with tufting I measured a bit more. The tufting adds contouring you don’t find on many memory foam beds.

Cooling gel provides some support and, more importantly, cooling. Convoluted foam promotes air circulation. The organic cotton top layer is a nice touch. Sleeping on it felt pressure-point-free, which meant less shifting. Motion transfer was minimal (expected for memory foam). I also captured videos illustrating motion isolation and recovery speed.

My Recommendation

Very well made and extremely comfortable—holds its own against top store brands. I recommend it for all sleeper types, including heavier folks: I’m over 200 lbs and didn’t bottom out (even jumping). Substantial enough for a heavy couple seeking adequate support. If you want the best mattress for heavy people, this is it—serious contender for your next luxury mattress.

Some reviews score it a little on the firmer side; reviews ranking it softer may lack broader context across many mattresses.

Trials, Returns, Coupons

Your source text mentions a 75-day trial in one section; elsewhere 180-night; elsewhere 365-night, and another section cites 120-night with a $95 return fee. Policies change—confirm current terms when ordering. Loom & Leaf does not offer coupon codes; they advertise the lowest price.

What Sleeping Positions Fit Each Firmness?

Sleeping PositionRecommended FirmnessConsiderations

Back SleepersFirmSpinal alignment; less sink
Stomach SleepersFirmPrevents midsection sag
Heavier Side Sleepers (>200 lbs)FirmExtra support to avoid sinkage
Lighter Sleepers (<130 lbs)Relaxed FirmFirm may feel too stiff

Relaxed Firm ≈ medium-firm; Firm ≈ firm on typical industry scales.

Support vs Pressure Relief (Illustrative)

Relaxed Firm Firm Pressure Relief (higher = more cradle) Support (higher = more lift)

Qualitative visualization based on your narrative guidance.

Sex on the Loom & Leaf

Pros: excellent motion isolation; good pressure relief for comfort; generally good edge support so you can use more of the surface. Cons: limited bounce/responsiveness vs hybrids; memory foam can sleep warmer during activity. If high bounce is essential, consider a hybrid/innerspring.

Firmness: Relaxed Firm is more flexible for positions; Firm may feel too rigid for some.

Bounce & Edge Support

Low bounce (typical all-foam cradle). Good edge support for foam thanks to the dense base. Compared with coils: less spring but steadier motion isolation. Some all-foam competitors may feel even less bouncy.

Cooling & Temperature

  • Organic cotton cover aids airflow near the surface.
  • Gel-infused memory foam helps draw and disperse heat.
  • Open-cell memory foam may be used (not always explicitly advertised) to improve breathability.
  • All-foam generally sleeps warmer than hybrids/innersprings; room temp, bedding, and personal sensitivity still matter.

Hot sleepers: consider cooler rooms, breathable linens, or a hybrid if warmth is a recurring issue.

How to Clean a Loom & Leaf

Strip bedding and vacuum the surface thoroughly. Optional baking soda deodorize; then vacuum again. For stains: blot (don’t scrub), use a water + white vinegar solution with a touch of mild dish soap for grease, test on a hidden spot, apply to cloth (not directly to foam), blot from edges inward, and air-dry fully. Avoid harsh chemicals, excess water, steam cleaning.

Flip/Rotate & Try Before You Buy

Do not flip (single-sided design with zoned comfort). Rotate head-to-foot every 6–12 months to even wear. Showrooms are limited (NYC cited); leverage the home sleep trial if you can’t try in person. Read verified customer reviews for additional perspective.

Common Questions

  • Does Saatva own Loom & Leaf? Yes—Loom & Leaf is a Saatva brand.
  • Can you flip it? No. Rotate only.
  • Showroom? Limited availability; home trial is the primary way to test.

Always validate current policies, fees, and availability on the brand’s site.

Loom & Leaf vs. Tempur-Pedic

Price: Loom & Leaf generally less expensive ($849–$2,199 vs. Tempur-Pedic $1,699–$8,498, size/model dependent).
Firmness: Loom & Leaf offers two (Relaxed Firm, Firm); Tempur spans multiple firmness lines.
Cooling: Loom & Leaf: gel-infused foam + breathable cover; Tempur-Pedic: cooling cover.
Eco: Loom & Leaf highlights plant-based foams/sustainable practices; Tempur-Pedic does not lead with eco claims.
Policies: Your text notes L&L 180-night trial/15-year warranty in one place; Tempur-Pedic 90-night/10-year. (These can change.)

Loom & Leaf vs. Big Fig & Nectar

Big Fig: Hybrid engineered for larger bodies—firmer, reinforced edges, heavy-duty foundation, strong durability and cooling approach. Great if you need maximum support and bounce.
Nectar: Value-oriented all-foam with one mainstream firmness. Longer trial period; may feel softer/more huggable for side sleepers.
L&L: Premium materials, multiple firmnesses, strong edge feel (for foam), potentially longer lifespan via higher densities.

Loom & Leaf vs Nectar — Why L&L Might Be Better (For Some)

Why L&L might be better: more premium materials, two firmnesses, stronger edges, potentially more durable, added cooling. Why Nectar might fit: lower price, longer trial, softer hug for side sleepers. Best choice depends on your needs and budget.

Your content cites multiple policy lengths. Treat as historical notes—confirm current trial/warranty at checkout.

Reasons NOT to Buy a Loom & Leaf

  • Limited bounce/response; combo sleepers who change positions very frequently may prefer a hybrid.
  • All-foam can sleep warmer than coil-based beds, even with cooling features.
  • Edge support is generally good for foam but can vary; some reports note the Relaxed Firm edge as less robust.
  • Not flippable—rotation matters for longevity.
  • Limited showroom access (NYC cited) if you want to test in person first.
  • Luxury pricing—value options exist if budget is tight.

Can You Try Loom & Leaf Before Buying?

Showroom access is limited (Saatva has a NYC location). Most shoppers rely on the home trial. Read verified reviews, compare to in-store models to calibrate feel (foam vs hybrid vs innerspring), then use the home trial to confirm in your bedroom.

    • You mean will it damage the mattress? If that’s your question, no. It shouldn’t have any significant effect on the mattress. The Loom and Leaf mattress uses a dense foam and is very resilient.

    • No, there should not be an affect. The mattress will recover from any impression quickly. This is true for both the Loom and Leaf and Leesa.

  4. What firmness was the bed that you received? I am a heavier woman at 260 while my boyfriend is at 155-160lbs. 5. We had a queen L&L for about a month. This was our first memory foam bed. (Besides the beautyrest that we returned after a week because of offgassing). We really enjoyed the comfort of this bed. I’m about 250lbs and a side sleeper, and felt like this supported me well, with minimal disruption to my wife who is about 80lb less. We didn’t really like the edge support, but we don’t have a big frame of reference. It was something we were getting used to, but I used to like sleeping on the edge. The thing I disliked the most was the offgassing. Again, I don’t have a huge frame of reference, and I have a very acute sense of smell, but this bed also made my eyes burn! Unfortunately that was a bit disconcerting, and frankly just not acceptable. My wife wanted to keep the bed, but our main reason for finding the right mattress is for good health. We have a latex bed on order currently.

  6. What’s the difference between Saatva and Loom & Leaf? Would you recommend a Lull or a L&L? I’ve had back surgery, facing a hip replacement and hot flashes at night. I also don’t want my husband to constantly fell me moving aroun in bed. I sleep on both my side and back.. Thank you.

  7. I’m interested in the loom and leaf. On the website they compare the medium-firm model to a Tempur pedic Cloud Lux Breeze, so I went to Sleepy’s to test it out. I found the Tempur-Pedic very soft. I would prefer something a bit more firm but not “real firm”. Also I weigh about 260lbs and my wife is 130 lbs. Do you think the medium firm or firm would be better for me? Have you slept on the Tempur Pedic Cloud Lux Breeze? How do you think they compare?

  9. Hello,

I have been sleeping on a L&L for almost 4 weeks now. At times I love it, but other times I wake up with shoulder pain and mild low back pain. I am 5’10”, 170 lbs., athletic build, and have broad shoulders. I sleep on both my stomach and my side. I think I need a mattress that is a bit softer than the L&L and provides a little more contouring/hug for pressure point relief.

My previous mattress was a lower end firm mattress with a higher end 3″ foam mattress topper on it. I never had any pain with it and it provided pretty deep contouring/hug.

Based on my research I thought the following three mattresses might provide me with what I am looking for when compared to the L&L: Amerisleep Liberty, Alexander Signature Medium, or the Winkbed.

Do you think one of these mattresses would provide the solution to my problem with the L&L? I am also open to other mattresses if you have a recommendation.

    Thanks for any help!

    • You may want to consider the Alexander Hybrid (Medium Firm) The zoned coil system will have more give towards your shoulders. You also get the benefits of 6 inches of memory foam on the top layer of the mattress.

  12. Hi Ben,
I have been trying to decide between the Loom and Leaf Relaxed Firm/Firm and Alexander Signature Hybrid medium. I’m 5’2″, 215lbs, side and back sleeper with chronic neck and back pain and MAJOR issues with sleeping hot.
I’ve been currently on the Alexander Signature Series medium, and I really like the feel, but it’s a bit too soft. I also get a slight stuck feeling when trying to change positions, which aggravates my neck and shoulder pain. I’ve been considering exchanging it for the Nest Alexander Hybrid. My sister has the plush, which is VERY comfortable, but it feels more like a pillowtop mattress than memory foam.
I’ve been keeping the Loom and Leaf in the back of my mind because it looks so luxurious and durable. I tried the Saatva and I was madly in love with the cover, but an innerspring wasn’t the right fit for me. I had already spent $98 on the delivery for the Saatva I wouldn’t get back, and it kept me from trying their all foam version until I had tried everything else I thought might be a good fit first. Now that L&L has waived the delivery fee, it’s become 800% more appealing.
If I try it instead of exchanging the Alexander all-foam for the hybrid, I’m unsure which firmness level to get. A L&L rep told me to go into a mattress store and try Tempurpedics because the Relaxed Firm is comparable to the Cloud Luxe Breeze and the Firm to the Contour Elite Breeze. I tried all of the Breeze line, and my favorites were the Flex Elite Breeze, except it was a bit too soft, and Contour Elite Breeze, which was a bit too firm for sleeping on my side. I’ve received conflicting info from the L&L reps given my preference results. Some say the Relaxed Firm would be a better fit, but I’m afraid it would be too soft. Some say the Firm because the Contour Elite Breeze was my favorite out of all of them. I’m hoping once the mattress broke in it would be a good fit, but if it’s too firm, out would cause a lot pain in my shoulders.
What would you recommend? Both companies have excellent customer service, and dealing with the Nest reps had made me want to give the hybrid another shot. However, a strong part of me wonders if I’ve had issues with all mattresses I’ve tried because I keep comparing them to the Loom and Leaf. What do you think?
    Thank you,
    Karayah
