Yawnder mattress reviews · October 15, 2026
The Black Diamond Lux Hybrid is the smooth-top, 14-inch model in Diamond’s Black Diamond line. It combines foam comfort layers with the 7-Series Wrapped Coil System and comes in Soft/Plush, Medium and Firm. This review covers that mattress and its three comfort options.
Choose the correct Black Diamond model: the Lux Hybrid reviewed here is a different mattress from the Black Diamond Lux Quilted Hybrid. The Quilted version has a quilted Euro top and its own construction and review. Photos and findings for one model should not be used to judge the other.

Quick verdict
Put the Lux Hybrid on your shortlist if you want a smooth-top hybrid with a choice of three firmness levels. Its foam-over-coil construction offers a different surface design from the quilted Euro-top model. Medium is a useful first comparison when you are unsure of your preference; try Plush for more cushioning and Firm if you want less surface give.
The right comfort option matters more than choosing the firmest label. Check how your shoulders, hips and lower back settle on the mattress, and whether you can turn comfortably.

Soft / Plush vs Medium vs Firm
The softest option is called Plush in Yawnder’s comfort selector. Soft and Plush refer to that same option here. Compare the three within this model family rather than assuming a Firm from another brand will feel identical.
| Comfort | Start here if | Check during a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Soft / Plush | You prefer more cushioning, especially at your shoulders and hips | Your pelvis should stay supported rather than sinking much deeper than your torso |
| Medium | You want a starting point between the softer and firmer options | Check both your main sleeping position and how easily you can turn |
| Firm | You prefer less surface give or want to compare support for back or stomach sleeping | Look for pressure at your shoulders and hips if you also sleep on your side |
A lighter person may experience the same mattress as firmer than a heavier person. A partner’s comfort preference can also differ from yours, even when you share the same sleep position.
Soft / Plush Lux Hybrid
Plush is the option to compare first if cushioning is your priority. For side sleeping, pay attention to your lower shoulder and hip: you want enough give to avoid concentrated pressure, with support through the waist.

Soft / Plush comfort and support
Try lying on your side and then your back. More cushioning is useful only if the mattress also supports your pelvis and lets you settle into a comfortable position. A firmness label alone cannot establish that fit.

Firmness / feel
Soft / Plush movement and response
Turn from side to side and sit up as you normally would. How easily you can reposition matters alongside initial softness, particularly if you change positions frequently.
Medium Lux Hybrid
Medium is a sensible comparison point when you are deciding between cushioning and a more resistant surface. Use it as a reference, then move to Plush or Firm based on what you feel.
Medium mattress photos and labels
The model label helps distinguish the Medium Lux Hybrid from the Medium Lux Quilted Hybrid. Match the name as well as the comfort option before comparing specifications or media.

Medium comfort and support
Check whether your waist feels supported on your side and whether your lower back rests comfortably when you turn onto your back. Spend enough time in each position to notice pressure rather than judging only by sitting on the edge.

Medium movement and response
For a shared bed, compare turning and getting in and out with your partner present when possible. Coil construction by itself does not tell you how much movement your partner will notice.

Firm Lux Hybrid
Firm is the option to compare if you prefer less surface give. Back and stomach sleepers may want to include it in their shortlist, while side sleepers should pay particular attention to shoulder and hip comfort.

Firm comfort and support
The sitting-edge, lying-edge, side-profile and feel demonstrations below show different ways of loading the Firm mattress. Sitting concentrates weight on a smaller area, so compare that view with lying near the edge before deciding how the perimeter suits your use.

The response and bounce clips show the Firm version under the demonstrated conditions. They do not establish the behavior of Plush or Medium, and a bounce demonstration is different from a controlled motion-transfer measurement.

Construction, cooling and partner movement
The Lux Hybrid uses a smooth-top foam comfort package above individually wrapped coils. Its listed 7-Series support system and foam perimeter are distinct from the quilted model’s listed microcoils and 9-Series system.
Diamond’s cooling features include the CoolTouch cover, Ice Flex Cooling Bands and titanium-infused memory foam. These describe the design; they do not guarantee a particular overnight temperature. Sheets, a protector, your room and your own heat sensitivity also affect comfort.
Wrapped coils can move more independently than a connected spring unit. The amount of partner disturbance still depends on the complete mattress, firmness and sleepers. Evaluate motion with your partner rather than treating a coil name as a measured result.

Matching comfort names do not make these interchangeable mattresses. Compare both in the comfort level you prefer, then decide whether the surface and support feel justify the difference in price for you.
Pros and limitations
Reasons to compare it
- Three comfort choices within one smooth-top hybrid model.
- Individually wrapped support coils and a foam-encased perimeter.
- Separate Firm photos and demonstrations to inspect before a showroom visit.
What to keep in mind
- The 14-inch profile may require checking fitted-sheet pocket depth.
- A material’s cooling name is not proof of an overnight cooling result.
- One firmness version’s demonstration does not stand in for the others.
- Yawnder’s return fee, adjustment period and eligibility rules matter.
