Best Pillows for Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers usually need less head elevation than side or back sleepers. A very low, compressible or adjustable pillow often makes more sense than a thick “support” pillow.
Three practical options
Puffy Pillow — adjustable
$102. Remove shredded memory foam until the pillow sits low enough for your body and mattress. This is the most practical current Yawnder option if you are unsure how little loft you need.
Goose Down — compressible
From $277. Choose Medium rather than Firm. Down compresses and can be scrunched flatter than a rigid foam pillow, although it needs regular fluffing.
RZ Cloud — medium profile
$99. The shredded latex/memory-foam blend has more give than a solid foam block. It is still a medium-profile pillow, so it may be too tall for stomach sleepers who need an especially flat surface.
No pillow is also a valid option
Some stomach sleepers are more comfortable with no pillow under the head or with only a very thin layer. Because the head is already turned to one side in this position, extra loft can increase neck rotation. Comfort varies with body shape and mattress firmness.
How to judge the fit
- If your head feels pushed backward or your chin lifts away from the mattress, the pillow may be too tall.
- If you keep folding your pillow flatter or moving off it during the night, try less loft.
- A firmer mattress keeps more of your torso on top of the bed and can change how much head elevation feels comfortable.
- Adjustable fill is useful because you can reduce loft gradually instead of guessing.
