Quick verdict: who should consider it?
The ViscoSoft Select High Density, now also called Restore HD, is worth considering if your mattress is structurally sound but you want to change its surface with a conforming memory-foam layer. Start with the 2-inch version for a smaller change or compare 3 and 4 inches if you want more material between you and the mattress. The best thickness depends on the bed underneath and how you sleep.
Our evidence: This is an unscored buying guide based on manufacturer specifications and general topper-shopping considerations. We have not documented a hands-on test of this exact topper or measured its cooling, motion isolation, pressure relief or long-term durability.
Look elsewhere if you dislike the slower response of memory foam, need a highly springy surface, or are trying to repair a sagging mattress. A thick topper can change how a bed feels without fixing a worn support core.

Which thickness should you choose?
2 inches: A starting point when the mattress is mostly comfortable and you want a modest change. You are more likely to feel the underlying mattress than you would through a thicker layer. This can also help when you want to limit the added bed height.
3 inches: The middle option for shoppers seeking a more noticeable memory-foam surface without automatically choosing the deepest build. Compare it on the actual mattress if possible; the same layer can feel different over a firm coil bed and a soft foam bed.
4 inches: A more substantial change in surface feel and bed height. More foam can make moving or getting out of bed feel different, and added depth does not guarantee better support. Check sheet pocket depth, the height of the finished bed, and whether the fit remains comfortable in your normal position.
These are shopping starting points, not measured firmness rankings. Foam density, thickness, body weight and the mattress underneath all affect the result; a denser foam is not automatically a firmer one.
Who may like the feel—and who may not
Side sleepers: If your existing mattress feels too hard at the shoulder or hip, a conforming layer may be worth trying. Check whether your shoulder has enough room without your hips sinking uncomfortably; neither thickness nor a pain-related claim can predict your individual fit.
Back and stomach sleepers: A thinner layer may make a smaller change to the existing bed. If a thicker, softer surface leaves your midsection feeling unsupported, try a different thickness or address the mattress itself.
Combination sleepers and couples: Memory foam can feel slower to respond than latex. If changing position is difficult or partner movement matters, try both on the completed bed; we do not have a verified motion-transfer measurement for this topper.
When the mattress is sagging: A topper follows the surface beneath it. Check the base and mattress for a dip first. Our guide to whether a topper can fix a bad mattress explains when replacement or a foundation fix may make more sense.
Cooling, setup and cleaning
ViscoSoft describes gel infusion and ventilation in the foam. These are design features, not a guarantee of a cool night. Room temperature, sheets, mattress and your own heat sensitivity also matter. If you sleep hot, compare the full setup and seller return conditions before buying.
Measure the mattress length and width, then add the selected topper thickness to your mattress height when checking fitted-sheet depth. The manufacturer lists straps and a grippy underside, but their fit can vary with mattress height and protector. Full XL and short-queen sizes are not interchangeable: verify the exact dimensions of the option in your cart.
ViscoSoft says compressed foam may take up to 48 hours to expand. Its care guide says to wash topper covers cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low; the foam itself is not machine washable. Check your product label and allow it to dry fully before making the bed.
Select High Density vs. Serene Hybrid
Select High Density / Restore HD: A single memory-foam layer with a removable cover, straps and a choice of 2, 3 or 4 inches on the current listing. Consider it if you want the feel of a foam surface without a separate fiber-filled pillow top.
Serene / Hybrid Lux: The older Serene review describes a layered foam-and-fiberfill design. ViscoSoft’s current Hybrid Lux listing pairs memory foam with a quilted pillow-top cover. Compare the exact thickness and generation, since names and specifications have changed. Read our ViscoSoft Serene review for that separate design, or explore the best mattress topper guide for latex and other alternatives.
Trial, warranty and buying checklist
ViscoSoft’s listing currently advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee for purchases through its own website and a five-year warranty. Read the direct return terms and warranty, and confirm the start date, pickup or shipping requirements and eligibility for your order. Other sellers set their own return rules; a mattress trial does not automatically apply to a topper.
Before checkout, confirm the exact model, thickness, size, final delivered cost, return process and whether the cover and straps fit your bed. Keep the receipt and care instructions. ViscoSoft’s specifications describe the current product; earlier versions can differ.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Select High Density the same as the Serene topper?
No. Select High Density is a memory-foam topper with a removable cover. The older Serene Hybrid combines foam with a fiber-filled pillow-top component. Check the model name and current listing because product names can change.
Will it fix a sagging mattress?
No topper reliably repairs a sagging mattress or an inadequate foundation. It can change the surface feel, but the problem underneath may still affect comfort.
Is the whole topper washable?
The removable cover is machine washable according to ViscoSoft; the foam is not. Follow the care label for your specific product.
Does gel memory foam guarantee cooler sleep?
No. Gel and ventilation are design features, and warmth depends on the complete bed and the sleeper. We have not measured overnight temperatures for this model.
What is the difference between density and firmness?
Density describes the mass of a volume of foam. Firmness describes how the surface feels under load. A higher-density foam does not by itself tell you whether a topper will feel softer or firmer.
