TEMPUR-Ergo Smart Base Review: A Bed Frame That Listens for Snoring
The TEMPUR-Ergo Smart Base is the flagship adjustable base in the Tempur-Pedic lineup — the one with the Sleeptracker-AI biometric monitoring, automatic snore-response, and app-controlled positioning. Priced at ~$2,999 queen (ProSmart is ~$3,499 with massage), it’s competing with the Reverie 8Q and the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus. Here’s what actually justifies the price.

Quick take
- Best for: Couples where one partner snores, or anyone who wants biometric sleep tracking without wearing a wearable.
- Positions: Head + foot articulation, Zero-G preset, custom app presets
- Price: ~$2,999 queen (Smart) / ~$3,499 queen (ProSmart with 4-zone massage)
- Warranty: 25-year limited on the base
Snore response — the feature that pays for the base
Under the mattress, four sensors detect the low-frequency vibration signature of snoring. When triggered, the head of the base tilts up ~7° automatically — enough to open the airway and stop the snore, without waking either sleeper. In our two-week test on a known snorer, snore-episode duration dropped ~64% versus the flat baseline. This alone justifies the base for anyone sharing a bed with a snorer.

Sleep tracking without a wearable
The same sensors track heart rate, respiratory rate, movement, and sleep stages. Data goes to the Sleeptracker-AI app. Accuracy is comparable to an Oura Ring for heart rate and respiration, less accurate for sleep-stage classification than a Whoop. If you want data without wearing anything on your wrist, this is the cleanest way to get it.

Massage (ProSmart only)
Four-zone wave and pulse massage. Real, useful for post-workout recovery. Not “medical” massage, but noticeably better than the entry-level Ergo massage function.

Ergo vs Ergo Smart vs Ergo ProSmart — which one to buy
- Ergo (~$1,899): head/foot articulation, no sensors, no snore response. Buy this if you just want an adjustable base.
- Ergo Smart (~$2,999): adds snore response and Sleeptracker-AI. Buy this if you or your partner snores.
- Ergo ProSmart (~$3,499): adds 4-zone massage. Buy this if you specifically want the massage.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Auto snore-response actually works
- Biometric tracking without a wearable
- App-controlled with saveable positions
- 25-year warranty on the frame
- Works with every Tempur mattress and most quality mattresses
Cons
- Expensive vs. plain adjustable bases
- Sensors and electronics — one more thing that could fail in year 8
- Split king configuration adds ~$1,000
Verdict
Buy the Ergo Smart if you or your partner snores — the snore-response feature alone justifies the upcharge over the base Ergo. Buy the ProSmart only if you specifically want the massage. If you just want head/foot articulation, save $1,000 and buy the base Ergo.
