Serta Five Star Mattress Review (2026): All 8 Profiles Compared
Serta Five Star is a collection, not one mattress with a universal feel. The official selector lists eight combinations of thickness and firmness, from an 8-inch Medium to a 16-inch Plush Pillow Top. Those choices span a much wider price range than the collection's advertised starting price suggests. The mattress is compressed for delivery, which can make getting it through a narrow stairway or apartment hallway easier.

Quick verdict
Five Star makes the most sense when boxed delivery and a modest budget matter. Compare the 10- and 12-inch options first for an adult everyday bed. The 14- and 16-inch builds reach prices where comparing a full-size delivered Perfect Sleeper becomes worthwhile.

Reasons to consider it
- Eight clearly listed thickness/feel combinations
- Convenient boxed delivery
- Wrapped-coil construction at accessible entry prices
- Choice of firm surfaces and plush pillow tops
What to weigh carefully
- The entry-level price applies to a specific size and profile
- Tall profiles can require deeper fitted sheets
- No current Yawnder performance measurements for these configurations
- Boxed shipment does not include the same setup service as a traditional delivered mattress
Current models and firmness choices
The model/tier and the selected feel belong together. The summaries below evaluate the current listed builds from manufacturer specifications; they are not a claim that every configuration has been sleep-tested at Yawnder.
Five Star (8 profiles)

The 8-inch Medium is the minimal-height option; compare it carefully for an adult daily-use bed before choosing only on price. The 10-inch Medium adds another middle-feel choice. Plush Pillow Top is offered at 10, 12, and 16 inches, while Firm is offered at 12 and 14 inches. A 14-inch Plush completes the lineup. For a shared everyday bed, compare the 12-inch Firm and 12-inch Plush Pillow Top as distinct comfort choices. The 16-inch version is for someone who specifically wants a tall, highly cushioned presentation, and should be priced against other Serta families.
Current listed feels: 10" Plush Pillow Top; 10" Medium; 12" Plush Pillow Top; 12" Firm; 14" Firm; 14" Plush; 16" Plush Pillow Top; 8" Medium. Queen: $319–$1,119.
Construction and expected feel
The core concept is a quilted coil mattress with individually wrapped springs and three-zone support. Serta identifies PillowSoft Aire and PillowSoft comfort foams, along with a gel-foam lumbar band in the 8-inch Medium description. Comfort-layer amounts differ as profiles change; the selected 8-inch specification should not be copied across all eight versions. The profile and feel must appear together on a receipt.
A lower profile usually leaves less room for thick comfort layers, so the 8-inch Medium should be considered separately from a tall pillow top. The 10-inch Medium is the straightforward step up, while the 10- and 12-inch Plush Pillow Tops are more logical starting points for a cushioning preference. Firm 12- and 14-inch builds deserve attention from shoppers who prefer a steadier surface. These are expected differences from the product design, not results from a side-by-side Yawnder sleep test.

Which sleepers should compare it?
| Sleeper | How to choose |
|---|---|
| Side sleepers | Compare Medium and softer options for shoulder and hip cushioning. Check that the waist and pelvis remain supported; a Plush label alone is not enough. |
| Back sleepers | Start with a balanced Medium or Firm where offered. Check support through the lower back and avoid a top that lets the pelvis sink much farther than the upper body. |
| Stomach sleepers | Compare the firmer available builds. A thick, soft pillow top deserves particular care if it allows the hips to drop. |
| Combination sleepers | Test turning through your usual positions. Comfort-layer depth and the selected firmness can matter as much as whether the mattress has coils. |
| Different body sizes | The same mattress can feel different to lighter and heavier people. Check shoulder pressure, hip support, and edge use on the exact configuration; we have not established a tested weight cutoff for this current family. |
Cooling, movement, and couple considerations
Cooling
The cover is described as breathable, and the spring cavity provides space for airflow. That is a sensible basic construction story, but a thicker pillow top also places more cushioning around the sleeper. Do not assume that the tallest option will be the coolest. A breathable protector and suitable sheets can matter more than paying for height you do not need.
Couples, movement, and edges
Serta describes the wrapped coils as helping control partner movement. We do not have current accelerometer measurements for any Five Star profile, and a soft pillow top can feel different from a firm version when two people turn over. Check the usable edge area and whether both partners can change positions comfortably. A mattress delivered in a box can still be heavy once unpacked, so plan setup with the actual size in mind.

When the upgrade makes sense
The Queen prices in this review show why the starting-price headline is not enough: the shortest option and the tallest pillow top serve different budgets. Spend first on the right comfort and support, then on thickness if it improves the experience. The premium profiles deserve comparison with Classic Enhanced and current Perfect Sleeper models, including the delivery and removal service each seller provides.
Trial, warranty, delivery, and retailer terms
Direct purchases from Serta.com are described on the current product pages with a 100-night trial and a 10-year limited warranty. Serta recommends at least 30 days to adjust before initiating a comfort return. Warranty coverage addresses qualifying defects, rather than guaranteeing that you will prefer a firmness for ten years.
Five Star ships compressed in a box. Plan unpacking and moving it into position; this is different from an in-home delivery team setting up a full-size mattress.
Retailer policies can differ. Get any exchange fee, return fee, required protector purchase, delivery charge, and final-sale restriction in writing before checkout. A manufacturer’s direct trial is not automatically the policy for a purchase from another store.

Common questions
Is Five Star a foam mattress or an innerspring?
Serta describes Five Star as a quilted innerspring mattress delivered in a box. Boxed packaging does not make it an all-foam mattress; the support system still includes individually wrapped coils.
Does this review include a current hands-on test?
This is a research and editorial evaluation of the current manufacturer-listed builds. Product materials, exact variants, prices, and shopping considerations are identified separately from Yawnder’s standardized testing. We do not assign new numeric scores without a test record for the exact configuration.
Which firmness should I choose?
Start with your usual sleep positions, your body size, and how much surface contouring you prefer. Compare the actual listed feel rather than choosing from a tier number or mattress height. Use the sleeper-fit table above, then test the exact configuration or confirm the seller’s trial terms.
Can it work with an adjustable base?
Serta lists adjustable-base compatibility on these product pages. Confirm the exact mattress size and selected base, particularly for split-head sizes, and follow the support and foundation requirements supplied with the mattress.
Can I try it at Yawnder?
Contact our Encinitas showroom before visiting to confirm which brands and exact models are on display. Inventory and display selection can change; a published review is not a guarantee that a mattress is currently on the floor.
