Osaki Massage Chairs Compared: Ziva vs Epic LE vs Duke XL vs DuoMax vs Apex Duo
Osaki’s catalog is too large to shop by price alone. To compare Osaki with Titan and other alternatives, start with our best massage chairs buying guide. The useful way to narrow it is by massage mechanism, body size, track design and how much automation you actually want. Ziva is the accessible 2D entry point; Epic LE and Duke XL move into 4D; DuoMax adds dual-mechanism complexity; Apex Duo is the extreme 5D+4D flagship.

The models that define the Osaki lineup
| Model | Mechanism | Air system | Why it stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ziva | 2D SL-track | 24-cell | Entry-level chair with body scan, zero gravity, heat, foot rollers and Bluetooth. |
| Pro 4D Epic LE | 4D dual-rail / SL-track | 28-cell | 4D depth control, health detection, voice control, lumbar/foot heat and triple foot/calf rollers. |
| Duke XL 4D | 4D SL-Flex | 48-cell | Oversized chair for bigger/taller users with deep calf work and an extendable footrest. |
| DuoMax SE | Dual-mechanism 4D | Premium full-body | Designed for simultaneous upper/lower-body work rather than one roller carriage doing everything. |
| Manhattan Duo | 4D + 3D dual mechanism | 26-cell | Dual systems, AI health monitor, zero gravity, deep calf/foot work and a compact wall clearance design. |
| AI Apex Duo 5D+4D | Dual 5D + 4D | 62-cell | Osaki’s maximalist flagship: dual mechanisms, AI sensing, triple heat zones, 46 auto programs and sliding-door entry. |
2D vs 3D vs 4D vs 5D: what actually changes?
2D rollers primarily move vertically and horizontally along the track. 3D adds depth so the rollers can push farther into the body. 4D layers more speed/rhythm control on top of depth, making the massage feel less mechanically uniform. Osaki’s 5D+4D chairs add even more control and, in Apex Duo’s case, separate upper- and lower-body mechanisms. More “D” does not automatically mean more comfortable—some people prefer the gentler predictability of a simpler chair.
Ziva vs Epic LE: when 4D is worth paying for
Ziva already covers the basics well: body scan, SL-track, zero gravity, heat, foot rollers and airbags. Epic LE is the step-up when you specifically want variable roller depth, health detection, voice control, stronger lower-leg work and a more complex roller system. If your main use is relaxation, Ziva can be enough. If you want deeper, more tunable massage, Epic LE is the more meaningful upgrade.
Duke XL: choose it for fit first
Duke XL’s biggest reason to exist is body accommodation. It combines an oversized frame and extendable footrest with a 4D mechanism, 48-cell air compression, heat and deep calf/foot work. The right question is not “is Duke better than Epic?” but “does Duke fit my body better?” Chair fit changes shoulder alignment, calf placement and where the rollers actually land.
DuoMax / Manhattan vs single-mechanism 4D chairs
Dual-mechanism chairs are about simultaneous coverage. A conventional 4D chair still uses one primary massage carriage. DuoMax and Manhattan add separate systems so upper and lower body work can happen more independently. That can feel more immersive, but it also adds complexity and usually cost.
Apex Duo: flagship complexity
Apex Duo uses separate 5D upper-body and 4D lower-body mechanisms, 62-cell air massage, three heating zones, real-time body scan, voice control and a large touchscreen. This is the chair to consider when you actively want the most technology and automation—not simply because it sits at the top of the range.
