Our Verdict

Choose the Nolah Signature if you prefer an all-foam mattress with a medium feel and a lower profile. Choose the Nolah Evolution if you want foam over coils, a taller mattress and a choice of three firmness levels.

For side sleepers who like a cushioning surface, the Signature and Evolution Plush are sensible starting points. The Evolution also offers Luxury Firm and Firm for shoppers seeking a different feel. Compare the exact cover configuration and spend time in your usual sleep position before choosing.

The Main Difference: Foam vs. Hybrid

The Signature uses foam throughout. Its comfort layers sit above a foam support core, creating a construction aimed at shoppers who like a cushioned, contouring surface. The Evolution replaces that foam support core with individually wrapped coils underneath its comfort foams.

Coils can contribute to a more responsive feel, while foam can absorb movement; neither construction guarantees how a particular bed will feel. If ease of turning over or partner movement is a priority, compare the beds directly in the configurations you would buy.

Nolah also sells a Signature Hybrid. That is a different model from the all-foam Signature discussed here. Check the full product name before ordering.

Firmness and Sleeping Position

Nolah rates the Signature medium, about 5 out of 10. The Evolution gives shoppers a choice of Plush, Luxury Firm and Firm. Firmness is subjective: a lighter sleeper may experience a bed as firmer than a heavier sleeper does, and a pillow-top upgrade can change the surface feel.

Side sleepers

Start with the Signature or Evolution Plush if you like cushioning at the shoulders and hips. If either lets the hips sink uncomfortably, try the Evolution Luxury Firm. The right fit should reduce pressure without making it difficult to stay comfortable through the waist.

Back and combination sleepers

The Signature’s medium feel can suit people who enjoy foam contouring. The Evolution Luxury Firm is another useful starting point if you want a hybrid with a middle-ground feel. Change positions during your test and check that your lower back feels supported in each one.

Stomach sleepers

Those who prefer a firmer surface may want to start with the Evolution Firm. A bed that feels too soft can allow the hips to sink uncomfortably, but the best choice still depends on body weight and personal comfort.

Cooling, Height and Setup

Both models offer an optional GlacioTex pillow top on Nolah’s current listings. The upgrade adds cushioning and a cool-to-the-touch fabric; it is not a powered cooling system. Compare the standard and upgraded versions on price and feel, and remember that bedding and room temperature affect your experience.

Nolah’s size guide lists the Signature at 12 inches. For the Evolution it lists 14 inches for the standard version and 15 inches with the cooling pillow top, while other Nolah pages use 15 inches for the model. Confirm your chosen version’s height before buying sheets, a protector or a frame. Ask about the Signature upgrade’s height too.

Couples, Motion and Edge Support

An all-foam mattress may appeal to couples who dislike a springy feel, while the Evolution’s coils may appeal to those who want easier movement. Those are construction-based expectations, not the results of a new head-to-head test. Have one person change positions while the other lies still, then sit and lie near the edge to check stability.

Sleepers with larger bodies should consider support requirements alongside firmness. Nolah recommends that shoppers over 300 pounds look at the Evolution Comfort+, a separate model. Our Evolution vs. Evolution Comfort+ comparison explains that choice.

Price, Delivery and Trial

Compare the same mattress size and cover option, including delivery or setup charges. Promotions and availability change, so check the final cart price rather than relying on an old sale figure.

Trial and return terms depend on the seller and order. For Yawnder orders, review the Yawnder return policy and checkout terms for eligibility, break-in, fees and exclusions. Nolah’s direct-purchase offers may differ and do not automatically apply to a Yawnder order.

For eligible Yawnder mattress orders: The current policy lists a 100-night trial with a 30-night minimum and a $200 return processing fee per mattress. The fee is waived for an eligible exchange to another Yawnder mattress, with any price difference due; the replacement is final sale. Floor models and other exclusions apply. Review your order terms before purchasing.

Who Should Choose Each?

Choose the Nolah Signature if:

  • You prefer an all-foam construction and a medium feel.
  • You want a lower-profile mattress.
  • You like foam contouring and do not need several firmness choices.

Choose the Nolah Evolution if:

  • You prefer foam comfort over a coil support core.
  • You want to choose Plush, Luxury Firm or Firm.
  • You are comfortable with a taller profile and its sheet requirements.
