Manta Sleep Mask Review: Fit, Light Blocking and Comfort

The original Manta mask pairs a fabric headband with repositionable, hollow eye cups. Adjusting the cups can help them sit around the eyes and nose bridge, making it easier to block light without resting the fabric directly on closed eyelids. Manta advertises total blackout, but a seal cannot be guaranteed for every face or position.

Construction and fit

Move the separate eye cups until they surround your eyes without pressing them, then adjust the strap so it stays in place without feeling tight. The cups create space for blinking; eyelashes and the nose bridge may still contact the mask depending on individual fit. Check the seal in a lit room and readjust if light enters.

The original mask uses a polycotton outer strap, polyester velour lining and modal fabric on the eye cups, according to Manta’s FAQ. The brand lists a head circumference range of approximately 20–25 inches. A soft pouch doubles as a laundry bag.

Manta lists the original mask at $39 and advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee. Its published return policy calls for the product to be returned in good condition and its original packaging; paid shipping is not refunded. The policy lists a six-month warranty for non-electronic products, rather than the one-year warranty previously stated here. Electronic products have a different warranty.

Care, side sleeping and CPAP

Manta says the original mask and eye cups can be machine-washed in the included mesh bag using cold water, then laid flat to air dry. Avoid bleach and check the instructions for the exact mask and accessories; heated, cooling and electronic components may require different care.

For side sleeping, test whether the cup nearest the pillow presses uncomfortably against your face. The PRO has differently shaped cups intended for side sleepers, though neither design fits everyone.

If you use CPAP, the adjustable cups and strap may make positioning easier, but compatibility depends on the CPAP mask, tubing and headgear. Make sure the eye mask does not disrupt the CPAP seal; ask your equipment provider for help if you cannot achieve a comfortable fit.
