Silk Comforter Review: Stunning Comfort for Every Season

Silk Comforter
[lasso id="141038" link_id="126411" ref="silk-cloud-comforter-nest-bedding"]

Benefits of a Silk Comforter

Before we get into the Nest silk comforter review, let’s go over the biggest benefits of a silk comforter. If you have never owned a silk comforter, you are in for a totally different sleep experience. Here’s a few things you can expect.

  1. Silk Comforters drape your body closely and eliminate any air gaps giving you a more consistent temperature across your body and throughout the night.
  2. Silk comforters are better than cotton, wool and even down at regulating temperature, you won’t get too hot or too cold meaning you will stay asleep longer and less prone to changing positions at night.
  3. Silk comforters are thinner than a typical down comforter which means they are lighter but work better than a down comforter.
  4. You can use a silk comforter in a warm or cold environment. Either way they will feel great.
  5. It’s hard to beat a silk comforter when it comes to durability. This could easily be the last comforter you ever buy if you take care of it.

The Nest Silk Cloud Comforter

Nest Silk Cloud Comforter

I recently received a silk comforter from Nest Bedding for review.  Let’s just start out by saying you can go crazy with silk. Frette sells their Villa Silk Duvet Filler for $3,100 in a king, and I’m sure it’s amazing but you don’t need to break the bank to get the benefits of silk. The Nest silk comforter sells for $499 in a king/cal king.

Even if you have a queen size bed, I recommend going with the king size since it will cover more of your bed and you won’t have to fight your partner for bedding at night.

When you order through Nest, you package will arrive in a nondescript box and inside it will be wrapped in plastic.

Nest Silk Comforter Packaging

The comforter itself is also wrapped in plastic just in your package gets wet al0ng the way. You also get a nice cloth bag to store the comforter when not in use.

Nest Comforter

Once opened you can start using it right away, there’s not harmful smells and it feels great right out of the box. I do recommend a duvet cover to keep it clean though. I recommend a bamboo or Tencel duvet and sheet set to further help regulate temperature and keep you cool.

As you can see, this duvet is fairly thin compared to

Most other silk comforters sold online have a minimal amount of filling, but not ours. Our Mulberry silk comforter fill amount is 200gsm/ 2.0 Kg. We found after extensive research and testing, that 200gsm is the perfect fill amount to make this comforter best for all seasons. Experience the feeling of weightlessness with a Silk Cloud Comforter by Nest Bedding.

Machine washing is not recommended. If you must machine wash this silk comforter, do so on a delicate rinse cycle only, and do not spin. Machine dry with wool dryer balls on a air-dry cycle or hang dry in the sun.

Apollo Duvet Review: Stunning Temperature Control for Comfort

Ministry of Supply Review

Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet Review

Finding a duvet that maintains a perfect temperature throughout the year can feel like an impossible task, especially for those living in colder climates. Many duvet inserts offer multiple layers for customization, but if you share your bed, your ideal temperature might not align with your partner’s. This is where the Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply steps in. Founded in 2012 by two MIT graduates, Ministry of Supply aims to blend science with comfort in both clothing and textiles. Their Apollo Duvet promises not just comfort but also the ability to customize temperature for each side of the bed—making it a game-changer in the world of bedding.

Unboxing the Apollo Duvet

I was fortunate enough to receive a queen-size Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply for review. It arrived in a surprisingly compact box, accompanied by a reusable storage bag, which is perfect for future use. The thoughtfulness in the packaging design stood out instantly. Shipping was quite efficient, taking about a week from order to delivery. One of the notable features of this duvet insert is its 100-day trial period, allowing you to test its comfort risk-free. If you’re not satisfied, you can return it for store credit instead of a cash refund; while I’d prefer a full refund option, there are plenty of appealing items in their store that might catch your eye.

Unique Construction Features of the Apollo Duvet

What distinguishes the Apollo Duvet from other options on the market is its incorporation of Phase Change Material (PCM)—a technology used in advanced mattresses for temperature regulation. This special material helps the duvet feel cool to the touch, drawing out heat to keep you comfortable while you sleep. Although the duvet eventually reaches a saturation point where it can no longer cool down, this innovative feature should help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Here’s a breakdown of the Apollo Duvet’s construction, based on information from their website:

NASA-derived temperature regulating Phase Change Material
Dual-layer modular insulation system that allows for varied weight preferences
Tonal snaps enable easy alignment
– Made from hypoallergenic materials
– Includes a storage bag (note: duvet cover is not included)
– Duvet weight: 6 lbs 1 oz; extra panels weigh 3 lbs 2 oz each
200 GSM duvet plus two additional 150 GSM panels
Shell fabrics: 55% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 45% Cotton
Fill materials: 70% Recycled Polyester (GRS), 30% Outlast PCM Viscose
– Produced by Staroon Textile Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang, CN)
Dimensions: 90” x 92” (extra panels are 45” x 92”)
– Fits both Queen and Full-sized beds; extra panels can serve as individual Twin-sized duvets

My Experience with the Apollo Duvet

Upon taking the duvet out of its packaging, I discovered it was meticulously rolled, making it challenging to return to the bag later. One pleasant surprise was a diagram illustrating the duvet’s functionality—something I haven’t seen with other products. This duvet is especially well-suited for guests, allowing them to adjust the bedding to their preferred thickness and temperature, no matter their thermostat settings or floor within the house.

Once unrolled, two distinct sides of the duvet were evident, which is quite beneficial for individual temperature preferences. Given the initial setup, I’d recommend starting with both layers attached for optimal warmth. It’s also advisable to use a duvet cover to keep it clean—while machine-washable, washing an insert is often a hassle.

The perimeter of the duvet features snap buttons, while the inner attachments use a different type of button that is less noticeable while sleeping. Although this makes connection a bit more cumbersome, their practical design ensures each side remains securely in place. The detail and quality of construction are evident in these buttons, which have a sleek matte finish.

Minor details, such as the care tag stitched onto all four sides, contribute to the overall aesthetic. I find this thoughtful touch immensely helpful, as it prevents that annoying tag from sticking out.

Final Thoughts on the Ministry of Supply Apollo Duvet

In summary, the Apollo Duvet serves as a versatile bedding option, functioning as both a summer and winter duvet. Why invest in two separate duvets when you can enjoy all these benefits in one? The Phase Change Material enhances sleep quality significantly, addressing a common issue faced by many: maintaining an ideal temperature throughout the night. If you’re searching for an innovative solution that combines quality and functionality, the Apollo Duvet from Ministry of Supply is undoubtedly worth considering. Just wish it were available in king size!

Kailu Silk Duvet: Stunning Comfort for Best Sleep Ever

Kailu Silk Duvet Insert Review

I’m a big fan of silk duvet inserts. What sets them apart from down or down alternative duvet inserts is that a quality silk duvet will last decades. The Kailu silk comforter is made with raw silk that is hand-stretched to provide consistent comfort throughout. You can also choose between a single and dual-core set. If you live in a warmer climate the single core is your best option while people living in northern states will want to go with the dual-core. The Kailu comforter is certainly not the cheapest-priced comforter but in terms of quality, feel, temperature regulation and durability, it’s way ahead of the pack.

Overview of the Kailu Silk Comforter

Kailu was founded in 2018 by LiLi Tan, an Emmy-winning journalist and former magazine editor. Kailu is Mandarin for “Open Road.” The name is inspired by Kailushen, a Chinese god (shen) who removes barriers and clears the way. Its mission is:

“…to open the road for those who are curious about the world, ready to explore new ideas and discover new experiences, and desirous of meaningful goods that benefit others and themselves.”

The Kailu silk products are handmade in the Yangtze River Delta which has a long history of handmade bedding. It’s clear that a lot of thought and craftsmanship has gone into this product. Here’s a video overview I made of the comforter. For this review, I received a dual-core set, emperor size.

Here are the construction details as of this writing.

RAW SILK CORE(S)
  • 100% long-strand mulberry silk fill
  • 100% cotton fabric casing
  • Allergy resistant / dust-mite free
  • Naturally temperature regulating
  • Supremely breathable
  • Includes 8+ ties to correspond with duvet cover
  • Hidden zipper closure
DUVET COVER
  • 100% cotton
  • Sateen fabric: classic 4 over 1 sateen weave using cotton yarn in both warp and weft, elegant drape, slight sheen
  • White fabric, with choice of white or black piping
  • Perfectly fitted to raw silk cores to prevent gaping and bunching
  • Includes 8+ ties to keep raw silk cores in place
  • Hidden zipper closure

Proudly handmade in ChinaDesigned in San Francisco.

My Kailu Duvet Findings

A lot of detail has gone into creating this product. Even the packaging is something you will want to hold on to. You can use it to store comforter or if you go with the dual core option, you can store one of the cores during the summer months when you don’t need two.

Kailu Bags

I have been sleeping on my Kailu comforter for over two months now and I am extremely happy with it. If you have never slept with a silk comforter, the first thing you will notice is that it hugs your body. There are no dead spaces that you may find with a down comforter. This makes silk comforters extra cozy and provides a consistent temperature throughout the night. Additionally, the silk doesn’t make me too hot or too cold. I have been using a single layer all summer. I may add the second core this winter but being in San Diego right now, our house doesn’t really get that cold.

Kailu Silk Duvet Insert

The comforter has 8 ties to secure the duvet cover. Most comforters I receive only have 4, or one for each corner. The extra ties in the middle of the comforter ensure that the comforter lays evenly across your bed on won’t get scrunched up overnight. It’s a small but important detail that that makes for a neater bed.

If you have a king size bed, I strongly recommend going with the emperor size.

Queen: 86 in. x 86 in.
King: 94 in. x 104 in.
Emperor: 98 in. x 110 in.

I like having the duvet drape over my bed and it keeps me and my wife from fighting over the bedding.

Quality silk comforters are hard to come by and you definitely get what you pay for here. You get more silk and an included duvet cover. I have done a lot of traveling this past summer and it has been so nice to come home to a bed with this type of bedding. Once you go silk, it will be hard to go back to any other textile.

Avocado Alpaca Duvet: Stunning Comfort, Effortless Sleep

avocado alpaca duvet insert

Avocado Alpaca Duvet Review: A Sustainable Sleep Experience

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Avocado alpaca duvet insert in a king size lightweight option. This is my first experience with an alpaca duvet, and after sleeping with it for over a week, I’ve discovered noteworthy advantages over traditional down or down alternative duvet inserts. Although the price tag is on the higher side at $479 for the king size lightweight version, the duvet is surprisingly sleek and lays perfectly flat on the mattress. Most importantly, it excels at regulating temperature throughout the night. While Avocado is renowned for its all-natural mattresses, the brand’s expanding product line offers appealing choices to enhance your entire bedroom experience.

Ordering the Avocado Alpaca Duvet

Ordering the Avocado alpaca duvet is a straightforward process, available exclusively through their official website. They occasionally offer discounts which can be found at checkout, making a significant purchase somewhat more manageable. The duvet arrives in a discreet box, and Avocado provides tracking information for your convenience. Expect fast shipping times, as these duvet inserts are typically in stock. Upon opening the box, you’ll find the duvet carefully wrapped in plastic to ensure cleanliness, tied together with elegant cloth ribbons.

Construction of the Avocado Alpaca Duvet

Here’s a closer look at the specifications of the Avocado alpaca duvet insert as listed on their website:

Dimensions:
Twin Lightweight: 91 x 70 | 5.5 lbs
Full/Queen Lightweight: 96 x 92 | 7.6 lbs
King/California King Lightweight: 107 x 96 | 8 lbs
Twin All Season: 91 x 70 | 6.2 lbs
Full/Queen All Season: 96 x 92 | 8.6 lbs
King/California King All Season: 107 x 96 | 10.5 lbs

Materials:
Alpaca fiber is celebrated in the textile industry for its unique attributes. It combines the softness of cashmere, the sheen of silk, and the practicality of sheep wool. This fiber is lightweight and boasts excellent temperature and moisture regulation, as well as being flame resistant and antimicrobial. The lightweight Avocado Alpaca Duvet contains 2,100 grams of 28-30 micron Peruvian alpaca fiber, while the all-season variant contains 2,800 grams. The duvet is encased in a layer of 100% GOTS organic certified cotton percale. For the best protection and longevity, pairing it with a duvet cover is recommended; Avocado’s Organic Linen Duvet Cover and Organic Cotton Duvet Cover complement it beautifully.

Certifications:
The Avocado alpaca duvet meets the stringent Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), ensuring eco-friendly and socially responsible practices throughout the supply chain. Additionally, it boasts a Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification, confirming it has passed rigorous testing for harmful substances.

How Much Does the Avocado Alpaca Duvet Cost?

The current prices for the Avocado alpaca duvet insert before any promotions are as follows:

| Size | Price |
|————————–|———|
| Twin Lightweight | $XXX |
| Full/Queen Lightweight | $XXX |
| King/California King Lightweight | $XXX |
| Twin All Season | $XXX |

My Findings and Recommendations on the Avocado Alpaca Duvet Insert

One of the first things I noticed was the absence of any synthetic odors—an advantage of its natural construction. With no synthetic materials, the duvet primarily consists of alpaca fiber encased in organic cotton. Unfolding it reveals loops at each corner for securing your duvet ties, ensuring it stays in place.

It’s important to note that the duvet should not be washed or dry cleaned, which differs from most synthetic options. Instead, Avocado recommends airing it out in the sun to refresh it. While this may not work for everyone, using a duvet cover will help maintain cleanliness and keep it in good condition.

The design features square stitching that prevents the alpaca filling from shifting, resulting in a denser, more substantial feel than you might expect from a down duvet. Instead of a fluffy cloud-like texture, it delivers a comforting heft akin to a thick blanket.

If you’re contemplating whether to choose the lightweight or all-season version, I recommend the lightweight for warmer climates. However, if you live in colder regions like the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, or Northeast, the all-season variant would be the better choice. A visual comparison of thickness shows the distinctions clearly.

Conclusion: A Sustainable Choice for Quality Sleep

Overall, I find the Avocado alpaca duvet to provide superior temperature regulation compared to any synthetic materials, and it feels more breathable than down. I no longer find myself kicking it off during the night from overheating. On cooler nights, it retains enough warmth, but if your bedroom temperature is usually below 65 degrees, the all-season duvet may be the better option.

Chances are, you’re reading this review because you are committed to sustainable living. By incorporating natural products into your home, including an organic mattress, sheets, and now this high-quality alpaca duvet, you’re making a conscientious choice for a healthier sleep environment. Explore the beauty of the Avocado duvet insert today and experience the luxurious benefits of alpaca for yourself.
