Simmons BeautyRest Recharge

The Simmons Beautyrest Recharge is a very popular mattress that has been getting lots of attention. I put this mattress to the test and found it to be rather unimpressive when compared to the quality you get online.

Ordering the BeautyRest Recharge

I ordered this mattress through Mattress Firm. You can try out this model in their stores or just order online or via a phone call. I decided to order via the phone. Instead of trying out in a store I wanted to test it out in my own house similar to the other online mattresses I have tested. The process was very easy and delivery was extremely fast. I ordered on a Tuesday and has a scheduled 3 hour delivery window for Thursday. This mattress does not come in a box so a freight delivery needs to be scheduled.

A nice touch was a coupon for 15% off at Olejo.com and a mint. Olejo.com sells mattress and other bedding accessories.

Findings

Overall I found this mattress to be a little too firm for my taste. While it is a very supportive mattress, it just didn’t give the pressure relief I have come to expect in a mattress these days.

Below is a video illustrating the motion transfer and bounce of a Simmons Beautyrest Recharge mattress.

As you can see it still has some good bounce for a firm mattress but doesn’t sink in as much as a Saatva or WinkBed.

What really concerned me was tufting on the mattress. As you can see the buttons are just for show and aren’t sewn into the mattress although this is true for many foam mattresses I have reviewed as well.

Here’s a video of the tufting of the Beautyrest Recharge

My BeautyRest Recharge Recommendation

This mattress just didn’t do it for me. It is a bit too firm for my taste. The top layer looks nice but nothing special. I don’t like the fact that if I want to return it I need to pay a $149 fee. With all the other companies I have reviewed so far you get a full cash refund and aren’t stuck choosing a different mattress in stock. At $649 for a Queen, this is the entry level for the recharge line so I imagine the more expensive models have more features.

In conclusion, I would take a look at some of the other inner spring mattress reviews on my site before committing to a Beautyrest Recharge.

  1. I have a similar Beautyrest Firm Recharge Queen from Aarons rental. It is so hard that I can’t sleep on my side. I wake up “uncharged” sore and exhausted from tossing trying to get comfortable. I have the option of them coming and picking up the mattress since I don’t like it. But the full cost with interest was $1000+ ! That’s ridiculous. I’ve had the mattress for 2 months and can’t stand it. As a note…I only weigh 170lbs. and my girlfriend the same.
I would not recommend this to anyone.

  2. I’m not sure what mattress you are reviewing but the one I sleep on is fantastic. I bought the plush version. So if it’s too hard for you, don’t dock it because you bought the wrong one.

The fact that these sites say NONE of the store brands are good, but ALL of the Internet brands are is why trust is going down. On the face of it, that cannot be true.

  3. The first couple of months this mattress seemed to be fine (not the best thing ever, but I slept fine on it). After the “break in period” it got worse and worse. I have chronic back and hip pain. It progressed slowly, I thought maybe I was developing arthritis in my hip. My son was out of town for a week I switched to his bed, by the 2nd night all of my hip and back pain was gone. I tried putting an expensive memory foam pad on my mattress (more $ spent on this bed), didn’t help. It was about 6 months after my original purchase that I contacted mattress firm, they wouldn’t do anything. Now I’m looking into donating it to charity and will go with an online mattress from Nectar (which is what my son has). It is cheaper than what I paid and is a much better quality.

  4. I have bought 2 Beautyrest recharge mattresses in size queen plush. The first one I bought was in 2013 and the 2nd one in 2017 I still have both. I love them they are super comfortable. I weigh 90 pounds and my bf weighs 160 he loves it too. No complaints I’m not restless when I sleep I wake up feeling very well not sore at all.

  5. Acknowledging that we will all have our own subjective views, I find that this mattress is prone to “sinkholes”, so to speak. Since it is one-sided, I can only rotate it front-to-back. When I sleep in the same area over the course of a few months, a sinkhole develops and it’s very uncomfortable for me. I’m not sure how that would be considered firm, but I suppose it is firm one the sinkhole has setting in. These sinkholes are very rough on my neck and shoulders. It’s worth noting that I’m both a side sleeper and a belly sleeper, depending. This mattress forces me to be a side sleeper because the sinkhole makes belly sleeping quite impossible with the awkward arch it forces me into.
